HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Six

I forgot to ask you something. Do you think Jett Rink was much of an angler? Where we are going there will be plenty of opportunities to go fly fishing. Does that narrow the scope of your search?

In Virginia I had picked Charlottesville, but only because I googled- Best places tp live in Virginia- Charlottesville was #1. So, I only mentioned it for that reason, not because I knew anything about anywhere in Virginia. Then, Debra G was going on about her "beloved" Virginia & she made me want to know more about the place I had just randomly picked. I really think there is something to this Virginia thing.
:S
I LOVE VIrginia!! I am so glad you decided to learn more about this wonderful place! The surrounding drive around Charlottesville has been dubbed the best Sunday drive in the country. It is true! I did NOT want to leave and felt like we had driven into a dream last summer:D<3<3<3
I'd have to say somewhere in Nebraska or in Minnesota.
Howdie Friends, my name is Steven. This is my first time here on this site. I also enjoy watching dream home. I looked at all the clues given to you and my guess is for the location of the dream home is Delta, Colorado. I could be wrong though lol.
Hi Steven! Welcome to the blog:)
There was a comment/clue early on that the home would be where no home has gone before. We've already been to Colorado. It could have been a throw-you-off clue, but I doubt it.
Warning Steven…this blog can lead to insanity. Mary is very tricky with her clues which makes it a fun time trying to guess the location. Plus, all the people on this blog are gems and will provide you with many smiles and lots of laughter. Welcome.
Maryland or Virginia
GIANT – kdwhit’s impressions:
Definitely Maryland or Virginia (west of Maryland)
•Whew, it’s a long movie. 200 minutes
•Opening scene: beautiful Maryland horse country. Bik comes in on the train and is going parallel to a hunting party. It made me think of the Kentucky Derby and Mary Poppins. Green rolling hills, red coats, and white fences. Once he arrives at the homestead, he realizes the hunting party is also going to the same place, then sees leslie (liz taylor) riding THE horse he has come to buy. That smile she gave him is the same smile I always remember her by, and is the same smile that instantly won him over.
•HOUSE #1 – Leslie’s family home was a traditional southern country mansion, all brick with white pillars, black shutters, and all
•HOUSE #2 – The super large 2nd Empire (Mansard) Victorian from the picture. The huge entry foyer was the main family living room and the centerplace of most of the drama for the movie. Cool to see the décor change with the times throughout the movie.
•HOUSE #3 – (kind of) When Leslie first saw the Benedict mansion, her first response was, “That’s it? It’s huge! I thought it was going to be a Texan rambling ranch!”
•OK, so the big deal : Jett Rink, or JR’s (James Dean’s character) is told to drive the city slicker Leslie home to rest [background, Leslie is having a little difficulty adjusting to the hardy food, the Texas heat, and is too well-mannered for the Texas folk. Biks sister thinks Leslie is just the trophy wife. Leslie gets up everyday and goes out with the cowboys to learn how they handle the steers]. JR is totally smitten with Leslie and is completely anxious and jittery the whole way home. On the way, mentions she’s the only one to come to Texas… everyone else is trying to get out… (OK I’m paraphrasing, but then he says) I’M GOING TO GET OUT OF HERE TO ONE DAY, MAYBE TO MARYLAND!!!!!
•Also, when Bik’s son-in-law comes home from fighting in WWII, they have a pool party, and the revelers are dancing the Virginia REEL
JR loves everything about Leslie
•Her looks, her independence, her courage
•Her home state
•Her sophistication, her wealth
•Once he inherits the land, he starts to prepare for her: builds a house, fills it with flowers, posts newspaper clippings of her on his wall, reads self-help books to improve his speech, learns etiquette so that he can serve her tea,
•He’s constantly trying to find excuses to drive the boss's car. As soon as he’s rich, he buys one just like it but better
•He tries to be Bik in every way, even names his new ranch “Little Reata.” He wants to be “good enough” for Leslie, even asks her if she had any sisters at home that would like poor people (like him), and asks Leslie’s daughter to marry him (him being in a drunken stupor, thinking/hoping/wishing it was really Leslie).
Thanks, very informative. I had not seen the movie & too busy to watch it right now. Your narration is very helpful.
Wisconsin
The author of Giant lived there. Sidwell Friends school (the Obama girls' school) is on Wisconsin AV in Washington DC, the main building looks a lot like the Maryland home in GIANT, except Sidwell is made of STONE instead of brick. The Sidwell school has a campus in Maryland… the DH is in MARYLAND!!!
Dear Mary,
Is Mary short for Maryland?
Sorry, I'm sleepy after 3.5 hours of Giant.
Oh yeah, Big Sky country baby. I'm talkin' Montana. Flathead Valley / Whitefish or Big Sky / Bozeman.
Well all of these clues fit in well with Montana so maybe Montana?
Penns Creek in Pennsylvania has one of the best trout streams in America. PA also has an
excellent park system that includes a Pennsylvania Wilds section. Fishing and hunting seem to go
together ("Hunt n Fish"). I was surprised to read about moose and bear hunting (Scrabble words).
I am having fun with this park system map that divides the state into park regions with all of the
activities available including white water rafting! I made it through a trip of white water rafting in
another state almost dry until the very end. Someone frightened by the rapids moved and
changed the balance of the raft. The next thing I knew, I was in the water completely. What a
surprise! Back to Bucks County!

Could be northern California or Oregon, Washington, Montana????
I'll bet it's Washington State. Moose, Bears, and Fly Fishing…..
It is so nice to see the hopes and dreams of fellow Dream Home bloggers. People who are wishing that the DH 2012 is being built in their favorite location.
As for me, I know that HGTV has chosen a great location, and will build a beautiful home, suited to that location. I would be happy with any location they choose.
Okay………a home on the range with vast expanses of land, and Sally goes to the Mountains. Montana is Spanish for Mountain, and there are plenty of places in Montana to build a home on the range. Montana would be a wonderful location…..the natural beauty of the mountains and wilderness, plenty of outdoor activities, and that beautiful home that Mary mentioned in clue 5. I think I am going to love this Dream Home!! Yay Montana!!!
Clue #1……..Scrabble Board. Scrabble is made by Hasbro, and Hasbro HQ is located in Rhode Island.
Clue #4…….Red Soil. Rhode Island is named for its' red soil. Rhode means Red.
Clue #2…….Sally goes to the Mountains. Montana is Spanish for mountain. Clues 1 and 4 are meant to draw a parallel to clue 2.
Clue #3……West of New Jersey, but not East of the Mississippi.
Clue #5…….Jett Rink lived on a "home on the range", this home could be compared to the land in Montana.
Clue #6….Fly fishing. There are plenty of rivers and streams in Montana to go fly fishing.
Montana 2012!!! I love this location!
In clue #4 the picture was a ficus growing between gray rock & petrified wood. Sometime it can look a little rust in the crack between the rock & wood, but it didn't look like red soil to me. Take another peek & let me know. Maybe, I'm missing something.
James Dean was born raised and buried in INDIANA. Lots of marble/quartz quarries. The town of FISHERS, IN was rated in 2010 list of top ten places to live in the USA. Google fly fishing seems like a big deal in IN. So now I'm saying IN!
Hey gang,
What does the Cartier jewelery picture & the wrong way sign (which look as if it was a one-way street) have to do with wher you are going? Remember they were suggested areas to view.
????? Aren't you asking about clues from LAST year's Dream Home? However, I am just as perplexed about this year's clues tied in to Utah, so you have a point…
Just below the clue, Mary put down suggested things that may help with the main clue. If you don't catch them right away, they may change or not be available when you try to look back. I think I figured out the two clues. On the slopes there are a lot of signs that say things like wrong way, etc… Plus you can't ski up, only down, so that would be one way. The Cartier clue could refer to Park City itself & that it's considered a wealthy area. There may be a Cartier store there even, I haven't checked. So, yes I was looking at the year before, but she recommended to go there. Once the next clue comes, the suggested spots for the prior may not be there, Mary replaces them with something for the current year (not useful). I hope that made sense.
Thanks for responding to my comment/question, I really appreciate it. This is my fisrt time doing this, but others have really helped me pick up the little things that can help. Obviously, I'm still not very good at it yet, but hopefully with time I'll improvewith time.
Hope to talk to you in future blogs.
Look, Mary, the westies are up! We're up! You can tell us where the Dream Home location is now!
It's been up for 13 minutes.
The location???
FYI- location was posted 13 minutes ago!
I think its UTAH or Montana! love fishing or somewhere in Wyoming! love it love it
Well Mary, my family loves to fish! And the scenery I've seen so far is tantalizing! I've entered for all the dream homes, I mean, who wouldn't want any one of them. This one looks and sounds very intriquing so far. Can't wait to see more as you continue planning and construction.
It’s Nebraska
Estes Park, Colorado
She said something about the Provo river, that' s in Utah.
