HGTV Dream Home 2012 Location
At last, we announce the location of our 2012 home. This year, a river will run through the back yard (no joke). If you’d like to learn more about the neighborhood, please visit rivermeadowsranch.com. Jack, take it away …

Yes they own 5 and 6 both. It makes for a nice property. Those lots sold for $299K each, so the property for this home is valuable all by itself.
I just spent the past few minutes copying all of the descriptions of the house/ links to the photos to a word document on my desktop, just in case Mary comes to work today and sees what has been going on over the weekend. If she could delete beehivestate's Midway guesses, I think she may start editing some of the descriptive posts in order to keep to HGTV timelines, etc. Just a guess, but I wanted to savor the great things that BHS and Tivo Girl said until we get more info. I can't believe how amazing those photos are — I know the house is 4,000 square feet, but it looks even bigger, for some reason, in the photos!
Great idea!
Great idea! Also, there may be tighter security at the site too.
Good idea but I think the cat is out of the bag now anyway.
Hey guys! Thanks for all the kudos on my description and pics. That's why I did it – so you could all see. I wrote up a short story for my paper (The Salt Lake Tribune) with a few of the pics and a shorter description. Gallery is online now: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home2/51951995-183/d…
If you visit, pretty please register (or use your Facebook login) and post a comment there!
Ooops — I scooped you by two minutes. Didn't know if you were going to post the link, so I did, too. I'll delete mine. Great story and photos!
No worries – two links are better than one, right?
Tivo, you need to keep it up with more articles. I was so surprised at the comments people made in the Trib about the house being too big and all. I think it's a wonderful home and great advertising for Utah.
Thanks & keep the info coming.
^_^
xD
Great to have you join the group.
A drawing is up on the main DH page. So are time lapse photos of course as we saw from the real photos posted- the ones HGTV posted are not current.
If indeed Mary did delete the correct guess – I am not very happy. That is not quite playing fair.
I'm not sure, Nebraska, I wouldn't think she would remove posts. Maybe I just "wished" so hard for it to be in Midway UT. I know I have been asking for Midway for at least two months. I'm pretty sure I did write it down but I wouldn't blame Mary.
The time lapse photos look great! The location is very scenic. I love it!!!
Still hoping to see the floorplans very soon.
Seriously inappropriate comment.
I am sorry Wyo_Girl I guess you misunderstood me.
SWEET!!! I live in SLC, but Midway is my go-to spot for a quick get-away. I especially love the Homestead Resort. Lots of mature trees, golf course, hot springs, and crater swimming. I think there are actually 3 golf courses in this area. Plus Soldier Hollow where they did the Olympic cross-country skiing–they also have a fantastic tubing hill. Jordanelle and Deer Creek are favorite spots for jet-skiing. We go during the week, mid-afternoon and you practically have the either reservoir to yourself. Just south of Midway is Daniels' Summit where there is great snowmobiling. Midway has an awesome "Swiss Days" Labor Day weekend festival and a fun Cowboy Festival in November. I would totally keep the house in this sweepstakes as I've always dreamed about moving to Midway!
Howdy, neighbor!
Wow, I'm so late. Just learning about the location. So many people will love it!!! Thanks Jack T. You've hit another home run!!!! Hope I get to see the winner as I view the show from my new home in Susan VA!
Congratulations Lessie on your new home. May you only know good health, happinesss,
and tranquility there. May all of your household have only good blessings. See Virginia
was a winner after all. Good Luck.:D
Hi it's good to see you my dear friend. You know that I am wishing you all of the best from your new home. Have you seen any of the recent updates?
Gorgeous – Woo! Hoo! I'm so excited, what a perfect destination for the 2012 HGTV Dream Home!
So excited! I get to go tour the home this year! Park City area is spectacular – touring will give me an excuse to leave Utah Valley.
I'll look for you. I'm hoping I can volunteer as a tour guide.
I've been in Park City all day. It's Field Day for schools and everyone's outdoors, playing soccer, tennis, skateboarding, swimming, roller blading, riding bikes, flying kites, walking their dogs, throwing the frisbee… and us walking the baby stroller up Main Street. My favorite shop I found today was the cats and dogs supplies shop with the window sign advertising : ANIMAL TELEPATHY! I kid you not… my dog wanted to go in there so bad (I think!) You bloggers and your "animal stones" were so right on last year!
Janzee, I drove by the house and I picked out your appaloosa, right across from the DH property. I don't think they'll let you keep him on lot 5, and you can't build a barn with a gambrel roof according to the CC&R's. Namaste.
It's been great weather but a storm is coming in, the wind is blowing like a banshee, and the sky looks like dust. There is still snow on top of the peaks in Park City and Midway. tivo, good article in the Trib, thanks.
Wishingforit gave a wonderful description of Midway. Thank you! I hope to get someone like that for a neighbor. Swiss Days is all done by volunteers. I help with the baking of brazelli, cinnamon rolls, and Swiss Bread. We do it at the Cannery building on Midway Main Street, right by the Eidelweiss Gallery. The proceeds go partly to Midway Boosters to pay for our fireworks over the 4th of July and flower baskets for Main Street.
Catching up on the blog today, I feel sad when people say they had trouble living in Utah because of the religion. When I first came here, a new friend asked me if I had preconceptions about Utah and when I said no, she said good, you will find it easy to live here. I am constantly learning and volunteering for things so I can meet people. My LDS friends are very open to any questions I have about Mormons and while I don't agree with everything, I go by the golden rule and I get along alright. Maybe I am just clueless but I see mostly good. I must admit I have no children in the schools so I don't know about that. I find this area to be very diverse in most respects.
I found a new place on Main Street Park City called "Atticus," it's a teahouse, coffee, bookstore… real New York bagels baked fresh daily. Their special treat is a "Boo Radley" bar aka To Kill A Mockingbird. Other neat places on PC Main Street, Mountain Town Olive Oil, or the cowboy shop where you can get a hand-crafted custom-fit pair of real cowboy boots. the Java Cow is another favorite for an awesome ice cream cone on a hot day. For lunch/dinner, we like The Wasatch Brew Pub at the top of Main Street… they make their own ales and have a t-shirt that says: beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy! one of the popular beers is called "Polygamy Porter".
Park City is neat and a fun outing, they have trails all over the place including single-track and miles of paved rail-trails. People are always out and about. Most everyone has a dog. Almost everybody around here (Wasatch Back) drives an SUV or a pick-up truck. My Mormon friends call them "Mormon Assault Vehicles," poking fun at themselves.
Thanks for reading!
I like what you write and hope you'll do more for us in the Trib. Let us know so we can give you thumbs up Likes on facebook.
Thank you! I'm not sure how often they'll want updates, but I'll be sure and push them when I can, and of course I'll post here, too!
Wow beehivestate! What a great tribute to Utah! And the travelogue is awesome too! Thank you!
You bet! I just found out about the new picture Mary put up so I'm moving over there now. Fun talking to you, susannamac.
Wow sandwhich when I read your stuff.
The Appy call to the wild asked me to stop by and say hello to you. How would you feel if I showed up to give you a hug, and brought an apple for Appy?
Great writing, thanks!
Keep the info coming!!
I'm so excited that you will be giving us updates! One thought, maybe remind the landscapers when they are planting that there are deer everywhere in Midway and to plant deer resistant varieties. I love seeing the deer when we are visiting but I'm sure as a gardener, I'd be trying to out-smart them with my plantings. Looking forward to your updates!
yeah, they say deer like tulips but not daffodils… to deer, tulips are like lollipops! Just saw your post, so had to reply!
Don't like Sushi, do like Utah.
I apologize everyone . I am reading the racist journal and mistaken Utah for it. I gotta check on Utah yah. Keep is up girlfriend.

Hi roland– today, I was going to take as a meditation and prayer day and happened to click on your post real quick. Before I did this I was reading a good book by Mike Tamura called You Are The Answer. I opened a page and it says: When you find yourself judging others harshley, the judgement is about you ". I took that to mean that I have to be responsible for my own actions, and being negative to someone begets negativity. You are a bigger man to apoligize. I am learning patience. so please forgive for my railing or trowing so hard. I am actually not an oger, and neither are you.
When I taught many moons ago, there was alot of racial tension at the school, so in my class we had a talk dirt time, when the kids could just say words, and express emotion, and and and… They worked hard, played hard, and many became leaders and successful business leaders in the community. Long and short, the kids were allowed to express.
I guess you ladies have misinterpreted me. I am sorry if you girls have misunderstood what I am trying to say. Janzee, I am sorry and I dont think you have that right to trow someone.
I am sorry irishsprite I guess you misunderstood me.
What exactly did I misunderstand? Your comment seemed very clear to me.
I love HGTV 101%
Yay! I can't wait to see the Dream Home when it's finished being constructed:D
Beautiful area
I think HGTV is doing a wonderfull job, creating the dreamhome for the people. Excellent job HGTV.
I am now really finished with this site’s main page mountain resort. Maybe someone could
put in a nice Utah scene. Someone else may have said this but having troubles and
computer doesn’t want me to know anything. Over 800 posts in so short of time. I have
so much reading to do when it will allow me! Wish me luck!!!
This is an amazing location i cant wait to learn more about utah.
Mary,
Can we play longer next time? I guess I say that because I was so far off base. The Vermont clues were a lot easier to follow. Oh me, Oh my, were the clues steering me in the wrong direction. Maybe, I just really wanted to go a different direction (the beach), so I drove them down my own road. Hah! Hah! On the other hand Mary, you played on our desires too. I'll just say that next time, I won't be so easily convinced. I'm ready, I'm ready for Sneaky Mary!!!! Lol!! :* I can't wait until we compete again (2013). Until then, I'll enjoy the chatting & bonding with my new friends.
Mary,
May we PLEASE get the floor plans. PLEASE!!!
It has taken me all day to read all the blogs I have missed from clue #4 on. I am stopping here
because it is late and I have to go to sleep. Once you know the answer and go back and read
things there are more things to laugh about and also be astonished. So many people were
right there without knowing it. I think Mary felt 1) bloggers were getting too close (Beehive –
a great place to fly fish is right here in the Provo River!) and would guess soon anyway and 2)
they were coordinating the Green House entrance stopage with a reveal on Dream Home.
I have absolutely loved the amount of sharing going on and support of the posting public.
Don't feed any troll but this evening the outcome was lovely and very nicely handled!!! ^_^
How beautiful!!!
Impressive!
Yikes, with the price of gas now days, a road trip from Ny to Calf. would be spendy. It would be cheaper to fly, but then again you would miss all the great things to see. LOL about the mac and Cheese. And yes it is a family joke about her "Are we there yet".
Ya she's an idiot and married an idiot so not much to say about that situation(girl who drove from ny to cali) haha. Makes sense to bring it since she's moving out to Cali. Don't get why she's bringing it home for a month long vacation though ::shakes head::Lol your poor daughter she'll never live that one down lol.
You have no idea how excited I am about this location! I currently live about 30 minutes from Park City. It's such a great place. I will definitely be going to see the house's progress. I can't wait! Great pick, guys!
One word comes to mind after viewing the photos: Majestic !!!
Just checking in to see what's new from the bloggers or Mary. Hope everyone is well!
xD <3
Still hoping for the floor plan. Was it entered somewhere I missed?
A big hello to everyone building the 2012 Dream Home in Utah !!! ^_^
WOW ! what a location. I wouldn't know how to act with a place like that. I hope they have a Home Depot there, lol. Maybe this time a dream might come true.
Yes, Home Depot is right over on the outskirts of Park City. PC also has a Walmart on the other side, toward Kimball Junction.
Just viewed the Utah location for the 2012 home, and I must admit, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous! I can't help but get a little corny here, but the theme of "A River Runs Through It" is certainly playing on my mind as far as house plans go! LOL! A River Rock home would be heavenly in my book! How exciting to watch the choices of materials/floor plans unfold! Good luck HGTV!
I talked to an agent for river meadows ranch online and he said the dream home was going to be on 2 lots – #4 and #5 if you are interested
Hi, I've seen it and it's on 5 and 6.
The area & land is so beautiful. And, it seems like it'll be a great place to have year around visitors. All our Floridian friends will be visiting at least twice a year-1) for the winter activities. 2) for the summer activities.
It'll be like a revolving door. Lol!
We drove past the 2012 Dream Home yesterday. And walked around the yard.
Considering the 700 inches of snowpack on the local mountains, I'm a little concerned about the placement of the home so near the Provo River bed. Also – the development is not just on the base of the valley – but also runs up the side of the nearby mountain. It would have been better to have it higher up – with stunning Heber Valley views. I think this was a huge mistake.
That being said – the walls are up – but the insulation is not yet placed. Very good windows installed – they will need 'em it gets cold on the Wasatch Back.
The house looks smaller in person – and the rooms look tiny on the inside. But 4000 square feet of house is nothing to sneeze at. It looks like they will have a basement level – to make three levels altogether.
I didn't see a basement but I could be wrong. I've walked around it many times and it looks like just a crawl space under the house.
I drove past the house today. So beautiful! It looks great!!! I actually love that the river is right there. This has been the rainiest spring in Utah's history. The river hasn't flooded the site, so I'm not worried. Midway is such an awesome area. It is really close to Park City, but it is equally close to Heber, which is such a cute little town. I can't wait to see it finished!!
What is the actual address to this House?
Wow… this location is beautiful! I cant wait to see the finished product
WOW this is breathtaking! what an amazing place to live… I would love to have a house in UTAH, i cannot imagine in Winter time when snows… Its funny but I've never seen snow… May this is a great location… I am a great fan of HGTV and dream home! blessings
ppl complain a lot… I would definetely live in that house!
I can't wait to see the house plans and everything we get to choose for this home!xD Will love logging in to get all updates….
My prediction is that this years “dream” home will have the lowest amount of entries to date. It’s certainly not my dream
You know Sandy, she will jump into her RV, and head on down the highway for the next greatest adventure. That's the beauty about us bloggamadillas we are a ready and raring to go group.
how many people does this home fit??
Snow…again. <pout> And National Parks
…I'm tryin.
GREAT AREA, GREAT HOME! Would love to live here, with my family, It would be my dream home, for sure!
