Just in case you were wondering … and don’t forget to check out the time-lapse pictures from the construction site and Super Fan’s reaction to our location announcement!
Architectural style: Modern, western-style ranch home
Neighborhood: River Meadows Ranch, near Park City, UT, and a 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City
Lot size: 2 1/2 acres
Square footage: Almost 4,000
Rooms: 4 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths
Closest mountain: Mount Timpanogos
Closest river: Provo River, one of the top 10 trout streams in the United States, cuts through the back yard of this year’s home

My favorite was Winter Park- thats because when I was married we had a vacation condo there. I think loved it for the memories as much as the house. But I'm not a skier anymore so even that one has lost the fascination.
Is it possible your provider is blocking them due to the number of emails coming in? I have seen providers do that thinking their clients are being spammed. They will auto block from a service if they feel it is an issue.
that is a possibility. it's MSN via Qwest
He's so adorable pushing that bowl around. I can relate to this. Each of our dogs have their own peculiar little habits that we find so precious even though it requires a little cleaning up after them from time to time. They're worth it! I'll have to watch the others when back from airport.
H_S:
I can't get the link to work but google Mount Timpanogos and read the legend and folklore. This is the most well-known peak in Utah and easily visible from Midway and "our" house. She's snow-covered today but in late summer will be mainly brown. Her silhouette is said to be that of an indian maiden, lying down, see if you can see that in the picture.
Ahh! Spring weather in Utah, yesterday 78 and sunny, today 56 and rain. River Road is closed for construction so we went to Park City via Heber City and stopped at The Coffee Station, best coffee in the valley (Starbucks in Park City, none here but rumors of one to be at the new Walmart). There's also a cute little coffee place in Midway Main Street in an old gas station with the old gas pumps out front, it's called "the Fill-er-Up Coffee Station." Saw a jeep in the parking lot with a funny business inscription: Merlin J., Plumbing & Heating, Astrologer & Hypnotist. Seriously! The barista said it's her dad's jeep and he has been a plumber for 30 years and interested in the occult as a sideline so he put it on his vehicle. How fun! He could hypnotize you before he says home much the repairs will cost!!
A few favorite spots known to the Park City locals, off the beaten track, in the Prospector District (20 minutes walk to Main Street): Align Spa (ahhhh, sheer bliss, get the sugar scrub massage and the pedicure); Right At Home (old and new consignment furniture); Fairweather Natural Foods Market (get the "Miracle" muffin); The Bakery (pastries, quiche, beautiful hand-made loaves of whole grain breads, yummm); Windy Ridge Cafe (sit outside on a nice day); Switchback Sports (used sporting goods); White Pine Touring for bike stuff and rentals in summer, cross country skis in winter. This neighborhood is at Iron Horse and Bonanza, adjacent to the Poison Creek trail and the Union Pacific Rail Trail, for those of you who have a map, and is near the City Park. Get some fixin's and have lunch outdoors, throw the frisbee for the dog, watch the volleyball and soccer, and watch the kids of all ages at the skate park. You can have a really fun day in Park City for cheap! There's also a really neat kitchen store called "No Place Like Home" in this area. Go there before Christmas and have a gift basket made. Stay on that trail and walk to the top of Park City Main Street to work off your lunch.
Today's Park Record says that the Canyon's Farmer's Market started yesterday and will run all summer and they have over 100 vendors with lots of artisans as well as farmers. You can get bread, cheese, seasonal fruits and vegetables, have a beer, listen to the music. It's all free. We go often every summer. There is another, smaller farmer's market in Heber City on Thursday's in summer. It's free and fun. Bring your own bag, Park City was "green" before "green was green."
I'm going to walk down to "our" house now and will check out the neighbor house and see if they have an RV parked in their driveway! Better take my umbrella. Hope I don't get in trouble with Mary for telling you the names of so many commercial establishments. These are just little places that you'd never see advertised except locally. If this post goes away, I'll know better next time.
If Mary wants to beat us to the punch, or to The Bakery for that matter, she'll have to start posting new threads fast and furious before our local (and non-local) bloggers dig up every scrap of info on the Dream Home and the area around it.
Mary won't be able to find me, I'll be at the Align Spa!
I"M SOLD!!
Good job, beehivestate — great information!
Great sleuthing Mrs Beehive!! Keep up the good work!
TY
beehivestate, I think you are spoiling all bloggers this year, with such an abundance of local intelligence that we will all feel like we live there by the time they do the giveaway next year !
The local businesses owe you a debt of gratitude for all your recommendations, too !
No way should you be getting in trouble for all the time you have put into this blog ! You may end up inspiring some people to move there…….
Yes she's inspired me. I'm about midway there.B)
Thanks, Beehive! Your descriptions are great!
I figured you were a bit chilly yesterday, as we usually get the same weather. We were in the 30's and it SNOWED most of the day. We even had a thunderstorm during the snow at one point!
It's warmer today, I didn't walk down to the house because of the impending rain last night and the fact that the Colorado Rockies game was on. We have business trip to Driggs/Jackson in a couple weeks, I hope this snow is over and done with by then.
In the 30's? I'd have to turn the furnace back on for that.
We're hoping this is the last snow of the summer, LOL! We watch the Rockies most nights, and last night's game was a thriller. Great 7th inning!!
We used to be huge Seattle Mariners fans and took in many games at Safeco when we lived in Tacoma. The Rockies are our new team and when we vacation in Telluride this summer, we are going to detour up to Denver on the way home and already have tickets for a Rox game at Coors Field. Who's your favorite player? I like Tulo, Helton, Smith, Wigginton, and Cargo. I hope they keep hitting better now. Baa! Ram!! Ewe!!
You're so funny — Baa-Ram-Ewe to you, too!! We've been Rockies fans since we went to Opening Day the first year. They hadn't even built Coors Field yet. We shared season tickets with a group and got to about 15-20 games every year. I loved our seats — 27 rows straight up from the Rockies dugout and just underneath the club level overhang so we were out of the sun and didn't have to worry too much about foul balls. My all time favorite player was Larry Walker, but now it has to be Cargo or Tulo, I think. Of course, Seth Smith is easy on the eyes…!
Oh yeah! Sheep be true!! I forgot Seth Smith. I envy you those great seats, that is just a primo area. We are sitting in section 127 and it was about $90 for two tickets, I think we will be 25 rows from the field. It should be good, they are playing the Brewers.
Section 127 is even better seats than what we had — I think we were in 123. You're going to love the game and the experience at Coors Field!
Wrong again (I'm making a habit of this, it seems!). We're sitting in section 117… still pretty good, I think.
NO WAY…GET OUT….SERIOUSLY?? Snow in June where you live…really?? I feel bad for you guys in Wyoming Wyo_Girl. I like snow and all but let spring and summer be what it is right? Did the snow accumulate?? I would imagine the ground would be thawed out?
Yep, we often get snow the first week in June, but it's 61 today, so everything is gone and it's all good. I saw snow on our roof this morning, but it has melted now. The old timers around here say that June 10 is the magic gardening date — they say not to plant ANYTHING before that day and to only plant on the 10th if the weather reports look OK for the next few days after that. Our weather looks good, so maybe I can get some planting done this weekend!
We do like it here, and there is a LOT of snow every year. Summer is gorgeous, though. Another old timer expression is that Star Valley has 9 months of snow and 3 months of house guests!
I'm amazed Wyo_Girl. I thought we had it rough here. You must be in a higher elevation in Wyoming? The old timer expression is similar to the one we have here which is "three months of summer and nine months of winter". I had most of our plants/ flowers out the last week of May but most people say wait until the first week of June to be over due to the possibility of frost. I've had to take in the flowers and put them in the garage not because of the threat of frost but because of heavy rain/winds. Have fun planting (we enjoy that as well
) this weekend and hopefully the weather will cooperate!! Good luck w/ the Green Home!!
Thanks for the input beehive!! Very interesting stuff! It's rainy here too, and the weather constantly changes too lol. New York and Utah must be very similar in some ways lol
Well, maybe. I think they have dairy cows in parts of NY State, that is by VT.
Yes we do, more so more north of us though. Where I live is more suburbs.
Wow, I don't know. I mostly see the fly fishers in their wadders out in the middle of the stream. I'll stop by The Fly Shop in Heber City and ask them, lucyourdog. In summer, when it is blazes hot, I often see a sign in front of that shop that says "come on down to the river where it is cool."
Beehive, please don't go out of your way just for that. I was wondering if someone knew off the top of their head. It does sound like a nice shop. Thank you for your kind gesture!!
No problem, I go past there almost every day on my way to The Fit Stop. Anyway, I want one of their hats!
Ask and ye shall receive! Thank You so much Mary for the new heading which supports our
new blog. The only color you have showing is blue. I am having trouble thinking of the colors
for the balloons. If you put up another border later with the outline of the house maybe you
could think of that and make it very colorful for us. Thank you for you up coming help!
Well folks I had my last cookie and today the fortune says, " THE CURRENT YEAR WILL BRING
YOU MUCH HAPPINESS" AND " yOU ARE HEADING FOR A LAND OF SUNSHINE AND
RELAXATION". There were two inside. So I think I might win the GH but it is possible to win
both! Any one want to be my friend??!!!!;)xD<3:o Wink wink Ha ha
Me! Me!! Me!!! Then again, maybe you are headed for Hawaii?
We will have to flip for who gets which house! But I think I know which one I will really
want!! I'll head for Hawaii when they build there. In two week the daughter from CO.
is taking her family to Hawaii for 10days – I am jealous. She didn't even ask if I would
like to come and babysit=/:(
I'll take the 2012 Dream House, it will be a shorter move than Colorado and I like the house sight-unseen. And I want to learn to fly fish like lucyourdog.
Thanks, I tried to put that link up but I couldn't manage. Too much time in the sun at a high altitude, I think I've lost a few brain cells with all this buzzing around the beehive. Could you make out the profile of the indian maiden?
The sunset photo is the one that looked most like the Indian Maiden to me.
For those who are in good physical condition, or who can get their act together by Saturday, don't miss out on the 20th Annual Pedalfest. The ride begins at 7 am until noon on 11 June. (Snow Park Lodge, Deer Valley Resort.)
The wide service road climb provides ample space for passing and sorting things out before hitting the wild snaky single-track downhill through the dense woods and spinning gullies. The course may be changed due to weather conditions or construction. (Dream Home construction?)
For those adventurous enough, take your camera and get plenty of photos along the way — and a few extra of Dream Home 2012, naturally. I'll be cheering for you!
Hey, Snow Park is where they have the Deer Valley outdoor concert series in summer. In the evenings, people bring their picnics and warm blankets and sit on the lawn and enjoy the performing arts and music. We saw the Mormon Tabernacle Choir there one evening. Their signature song is "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the audience sings with them. It gives you chills (not to mention it is freezing outside even on a summer's evening in Utah).
Oh, just a few yards, MaryPA. Less than a minute's walk through the grass. I noticed there is a common area lot between lot 9 and lot 10 so that those who don't have river frontage can go to the water without walking across the others' land.
What a beautiful place to have a DH in Midway. Border Collies are one of my son's favorite dogs ever since he found one abandoned across the street from his Gram's home with a heavy chain around his neck. BTW Gram's home is now Soney and my little DH now. My son was so happy that we can stay here, he has so much memories here. Meanwhile we are in Midway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v057G2UDL9Q
Oh Thank You, alicesoneysmom, you just made my day, I adopted my dog from a shelter in Feb.
Noboby could tell us what he breed he is. Now I'm sure he is mixed, But my Murphy looks and acts(you should see him with the deer around here….he's been trying to herd them)haha:D exactly like those dogs!! The rest of my family is in bed right now but, I can't wait for them to see this. I'm so tickled right now.
good find !!
I love that they have this in our Midway! It certainly reminds me of the movie "Babe". I wanted to start saying the password: "Baa-Ram-Ewe"!
Too funny, Wyoming! My sisters and I think "Baa RamEwe, sheep be true" is our password LOL. Have you been to the event yet? Come down for Swiss Days and make it a weekend. We'll meet you on Monday at the Classic!
I am very excited about this home, but my heart is being pulled toward the beach. Don't get me wrong, if I won the Utah Dream Home I'd be jumping for joy & packing so fast, my family wouldn't even know what was going on. I'd probably be driving down the road before I remembered I'd left them. Lol. xD
Okay oKay, in a couple of days when I get home there are about six more pics, and I will put this one up. If I ever win any DH, I will definately disguise myself. P.S. I was going through Salt Lake to get back to Nevada, but decided to come in Lord willing in July. Tomorrow I may stop off depending on time and take some pics of Stapleton, and talk to a couple of folks.
That works! I know a great makeup artist who can make you look like whomever you'd like. When you win you can show up as a young Kate Hepburn if you'd like;)Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
Hey, hey, hey, it's Friday!
Hoping we'll get a new post from Mary today — HGTV's floor plan would be nice!
Do you think they have floor plans ready yet? Maybe they draw them up after the house is framed just to be sure there haven't been any on-site changes. ^_^
That was my guess too- that today would bring the floorplans…maybe she'll post them right as she is getting off work to give us something to talk about over the weekend.
I keep checking HGTVpro for house plans- but I dont see them yet! How about it Mary give us something we would like for the weekend.
haha- I've been looking too and that was also my hope that we'd get them today.
I wonder if beehivestate has tried the fresh raw milk and aged cheese from the Canyon View Farm in Midway?
According to local news, Heber Valley Artisan Cheese and Heber Valley Milk, the two divisions of a new family-owned and -operated creamery serving Summit, Salt Lake, Wasatch and Utah counties, recently celebrated their grand opening.
"Tours of the facility were open to the public and included a look inside the facility’s "make room," where cheese crafters create specialty cheeses like mozzarella, queso fresco, pepper jack and Juustoleipa. Visitors also got a peek inside the two-thousand-square-foot cheese refrigerator known as the cheese cave, where a variety of cheddars, swiss and other aged cheeses are developing. Tours also included a look into Heber Valley’s milk bottling room, where guests were educated on the processing of raw milk fresh from the farm."
The new facility is located at 920 North River Road in Midway on Canyon View Farm, a 400-acre, fourth-generation farm bordering the Provo River in Midway.
Just think — only a hop, skip and a jump (if you have long legs) from the Dream Home 2012 location. Sounds to me like another good reason to join this wagon train and make a beeline to Midway, Utah.
Hi Coop, I can see the Kohler Dairy and the Heber Valley Artisan Cheese from my window and I can even hear the cows! Sometimes they have the cows in the pasture right beside the cheese factory building. This is only a 35 minute walk from the DH, 2.3 miles. Yes, it's at Canyon View Farm.
Milk is $2.50 for a half-gallon jug (in glass) and the deposit is $2.50 for the bottle, which you can return. I haven't tried the milk yet but am planning to. I can walk over there in about three minutes flat. They don't have much cheese yet because they haven't been open long enough for the cheese to be aged. They only sell the raw milk because there is a law you can't sell raw and pasteurized milk in the same place.
Kohler's have 300 head of dairy cows, they are black and white and look just like that cow in the clue that Mary gave you for the Stowe DH last year… I watch these cows from the window of my quilting studio and I can verify that they are VERY well taken care of! If you are driving this way, pass the DH and continue to the round-about and take the left turn. Canyon View Farm is right there and the dairy is a red building.
Now I have a mission to get some of that milk and report back. Okay, later.
Wow, beehivestate, you must practically know all of them by name! You know what they say — contented cows give moo-cho more milk!
Coop, if you go for a visit, don't forget to pack your Holstein VT Teddy Bear ! Good accessory for a visit to a dairy facility.
Alicesoneysmom, Thanks for the vid of the Soldier Hollow Classic. http://www.soldierhollowclassic.com. I have attended every year since 2006 when we were out here looking for a new home. Soldier Hollow is in Charleston, which is on the south of Midway. About 5 miles from our home. This very fun event runs from the weekend and ends Labor Day and that is the best day to go because it is the finals. They didn't show it in the video but sometimes the dog (especially the young dogs) will nip at the sheep. Unless the sheep has actually charged the dog, this will result in a disqualification. The team (dog and handler) have a set amount of time to bring the sheep into the pen (I think 20 minutes). Sometimes if it is windy, the dog has a hard time hearing the whistle and gets confused. These dogs and handlers are pretty amazing. They have to get the sheep through the course then separate out five sheep with red collars, then get them into a small pen. Believe me, these sheep do NOT want to go into that pen!! It's very intense, you can just see the spectators holding their breath… will the sheep bolt or not? These sheep are raised on a local ranch and have never seen border collie.
There is a stadium and good places to sit for viewing. Bank of the West and Zermatt Resort often have a booth selling root beer floats in oversized glass mugs. I still have mine from the first year we attended. I can't wait until our grandson is big enough to take him with us. This even is a must-see!! Come to Midway for Swiss Days on Friday and Saturday, go to the Park Silly Market on Sunday, then take in the Soldier Hollow Classic on Labor Day. My birthday usually comes around Labor Day so then we go home and have a three-layer german chocolate cake which our son bakes from scratch for me!
Another fun thing you could do that weekend is ride the Heber Valley Railroad old-fashioned steam train. I'll put up a link to that. They just had their annual "Thomas the Tank Engine" ride for kids. We call that train "the Heber Creeper" because their top speed is 28 mph. Back in the day, this valley was known for raising thousands and thousands of sheep. You still see a small flock every now and then.
<a href="http://www.hebervalleyrr.org” target=”_blank”>www.hebervalleyrr.org
The rr is right in between Midway and Heber, about 5 miles from the DH.
I see the link won't open. Try this: http://www.hebervalleyrr.org/
For those looking on Google Earth for the location of Dream Home 2012 in River Meadows Ranch, put in the following search address: 2000 River Road, Midway, UT. It will take you right to the development.
lol! You are so right.
Definitely, "happiness dwells in Utah!" Thank you for the beautiful poem.
Good luck, worldtravelerr. Jobs are hard to come by around here and, unfortunately, wages tend to be low in Utah. Cost of living is low, though, unless you try to live in Park City. Maybe that's why the DH is in Midway… because the cost of land is less than Park City and the taxes are less for sure.
They are beehive!Right now I'm working part time, I was told about a full time job but I am not applying because it would be a high stress job with crappy pay and overall it would not be worth it sadly. Here in New York the economy is terrible too, but the prices of houses and apartments are ridiculous. That is good that in Utah the prices are lower. Plus with this house and car you get 100,000 dollars so that would definitely help. My wish is to start a business. Ya I was thinking that's why they probably didn't build in Hawaii, it's expensive!
Good luck. If you come out to UT, you will love it. Maybe you will see the home, take the money, and buy something affordable in Midway. I love being away from the stress of the big city. Of course, you are younger and probably like it!
for the last Dream House, the cash prize was $500K, in addition to the house and car. Still and all, that would not pay the tax liabilities on the prize. A person would need to have sufficient other assets in order to handle that.
That pretty much leaves me out,…that's okay, I still enjoy dreamingB)
beehive , don't get me depressed. Bad beehive!!!
:*
Explain tax liabilities to me. Why wouldn't $500,000 cover it? I thought prize taxes would come to ~ 1/2 of the total value & that would come to ~ $1,000,000 total value. But, I really don't know anything about winning houses & then some. Once again, I need your valuable input.
:S =/
I rode the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge RR in about 1974. It's still a popular attraction.
Hey guys, I was just down at the house and guess what? Those who had a love-hate relationship with the pink bedroom at the Green Home are going to love this… the house is PINK… well, it's just wrapped on the lower level so far but approaching from a distance, it's bubble-gum pink and very shiny in the sun!
The contractors have put up NO TRESPASSING signs on every side and I walked around the perimeter on lots 5 and 7 and back over the fence to the river. Incidentally, for those who asked, it's about 80 paces from the fence to the river. It slopes down just a little but you will still see the river quite easily from the house.
I peeked in the garage and it is a double car, standard in size, and not big enough to park them two-deep! Hey, guess what? There was a film crew there today interviewing one of the developers, don't know if it was HGTV or not. And there was a white SUV parked in front that said DENALI on the side and had a DREAM CATCHER hanging from the rear view mirror. Maybe it's a sign that one of us bloggers will win. I hope!!!
Not a cloud in the sky today and Mount Timpanogos is so beautiful. You can see the sleeping indian maiden profile quite easily from "our" house, standing in the front yard, looking west. The road over Guardsman Pass, as well as the Alpine Loop road from Soldier Hollow to South Salt Lake City, is still closed due to 6' of snow. Predicted opening is first week of July. Make your plans now to come out Labor Day weekend for all the festivities. TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF!!!
Three great golf courses in Midway: Soldier Hollow, The Homestead Resort, and The Wasatch Mountain State Park course, which is now open and costs $42 to play 18 holes (includes the cart in the price). In winter, the golf courses are open for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
That's funny that they have now put in the no trespassing signs. I wonder if Mary called them after monitoring the blogs and seeing your reports and Tivo Girl's online photos — hope not!
Wyoming, my husband says probably the contractor did it because of people walking around… as a liability issue.
Thanks for pointing out the updated pictures. #42 on June 3rd is when I first saw it.
The new construction shots shows pics of the back of the house! It appears they have opened up the small windows on the south side of the great room and now there are 3 large windows. Basically an entire wall of windows.
Also, in the corner where the great room and the guest suite come together they appear to be building something tall and round. I can't tell how tall it's going to be but wouldn't it be awesome if it was an observation tower?
Pictures of the back are 23-27, 29, 31-32, 34-35, 37, 40, 42-45, and 48-49.
That really WOULD be awesome! I'll scope it out again in a day or so.
I was hoping you would say that beehive. I was so excited when I realized I was looking at the back of the house (I can be a little slow at times…LOL!!!!) and then I saw that round thing. I can't imagine what else it would be but an observation tower – WOW!!!
Remember I think the covenants say two stories and no more than 35 feet from the highest point on the lot. I see what you mean. I looked and wondered it that will be a fireplace? There is definite break in the foundation setup there and that it may be an outdoor room.
I rechecked the covenants and the restriction is 2.5 stories with one tower permitted per house. Your idea of an outdoor fireplace maybe correct; they are building an outdoor living space. But I'm still hoping for an observation tower – the views would be spectacular! We'll just have to keep watching the construction photos or have our hometown spy, beehive, keep an eye on it for us…LOL!!
Sooooo many restrictions!
A tower would be great, but I don't see anything that looks round on the up-to-date pictures. I hope you are spot-on. From what i could see I was wondering if they were putting in a fireplace for the Great Room in that area with maybe an outdoor grille facing towards a broad covered patio. An observation tower where you could hole up and read a book would be wonderful.
Did anyone notice that something disappeared from the building? Look at the Master Suite balcony on the back of the house. Picture 25 shows the balcony "surround" clearly, then 20 pictures later it disappears. Interesting…
I noticed the disappearing framing from the MBR window and wondered what happened to it. It originally looked liked they were framing for an enclosed window bump out. Maybe they changed their minds and are going to put in a balcony instead.
Are power lines, telephones lines, etc. all underground? LIKE TO GO FLY KITES.
We do too!! I was flying a Disney Cars kite for the kids just a couple of days ago and our power lines and cables are all under ground. What a difference it makes!!
Looking back at previous years, we may have a long wait before we get those floor plans. Poor Mary…we probably sound like a broken record. Maybe she will at least give us some juicy tidbit to teethe on over the weekend.
Now that I have the DH in Midway, I will gladly "pull" for Hawaii for next year! It would certainly be different.
They could "recycle" the DH 2012 clues for a Green DH next year….in Hawaii…..heeheeB)
Why does HGTV Pro still have a big section of Dream Home 2011? Out with the old, on with 2012.
Omigosh! This is what people in Utah say when they're surprised! I should know, I grew up in Utah and can attest to the fact that the Midway area is very beautiful. Used to be slightly remote, far from Salt Lake City, but these days with Park City as booming as it is, I bet it will be wonderful to live there. Especially with kids. Still, I want to win it and I'm single! I'll invite plenty of guests and look up all my childhood friends! Except for the flyfishing on the river, and the canyons and rattlesnake, I can't see Utah in the clues. Oh, wait, I just read more of the blog and yeah, yeah, now I see excrUTiate and penUTbUTter jumping out! Daydreaming about the hot days and cool nights, the arid climate that is so good for my hair (its why Utah girls are so pretty – no frizzies!) as I sit here in the swamp that is Washington DC in 98 degrees today- yeah, I could return to Utah!
I think you should come home to Utah, Topazmoon11. Did you ever get up here to Swiss Days?
No, but I remember going to the Homestead and one very memorable "daddy daughter date" (phrase borrowed from Mormon Mutual) where dad kept me in suspense as to where we were going and we ended up on the Heber Creeper! Nostalgia, but I think I like "the new Utah" even better- there's diversity! Yes, I think I should win the dreamhouse and entertain y'all there.
Topazmoon11 don't forget "fercute" and her in So Ut the "t" and "ing" is dropped so its. huning (hunting) and "fishun". I had a hard time coming from Calif. figuring out the lingo..but now I am part of it.
Omigosh, you betcha! Fercute! Ossum! I can hear that Utah accent a mile away (Istill have it) I've been following the new musical on Broadway "The Book of Mormon" and it seems funny BUT the actors don't have Utahn accent and speak in Utahspeak so it doesn't ring quite true. Too bad, a missed opportunity for A LOT of laughs!
I use to be the manager of KSUB Radio station, and when we would have the ad's recorded out of state I had to record how to say words like Zion (Zi-un) and Hurricane (Hurrikun) , so the locals wouldn't know that a non Utahn did them LOL My son owns the bakery that makes the tarts for the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the first thing the tourest complain about is the accent…Oh well… I did't know there was a musical of The Book of Mormon.
How about "Duchene" and "Tooele" … do chesne and two ella?
Thats right beehivestate and Lavan is Navel spilt backwards because it is in the middle of the state. And Toqureville, I wont say how the out of states say it. But we do love our beehive state.
I used to live in Washington state, you should've heard people try to pronounce "Puyallup" and "Dosiwallips"
I was just listening to the "Book Of Mormon" soundtrack on Facebook. Funny stuff! I'm a bit partial to Trey and Matt, since Trey went to the middle school where I used to work in Colorado. He even based the school counselor in "South Park" on a real counselor there. I know their humor is not for everyone, but they make me laugh.
Mary Mary Thank You thank you!!! Did you notice the picture on the main page? I believe it
is a picture of our home. From what I have seen so far I think it matches. What do you think?
That's sounds fair enough — at least you're giving the cows a 5% margin for error in their rain prediction. That's more accurate than our local forecasters!
yes, I need to start drinking that moo juice right away, I'm loosing brain cells from all this blogging
Soney and I are taking a music break. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JeYdg6w5Gc&fe…
Now that's somebody who really HAS BEEN just about everywhere. I better toss my saddlebag in the car and head on out for parts unknown 'cause I'm way behind!
Thanks for the travel show, alicesoneysmom.
That was great! Lots of Utah on that trip and I've been everywhere!
I understand that the Heber Valley Civil War Quilt Show is also held at Soldier Hollow in early October. Civil War? How does that enter into the Utah quilting scene?
I guess the weekend is more a Civil War Living History Event, and a tribute to those on both sides who gave their lives for a cause they strongly believed in as well as a reenactment of those battles. A fascinating way to learn more about this epic struggle of a young nation rent asunder.
Quilting was certainly a craft of the time, as it still is — and next on the agenda might be a Dream Home 2012 quilt — along with a ranch-style doggie dream home.
Thanks for talking about quilts DBCoop this is an amazing story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lfaSmDxVZQ
I teach quilting and once I had a student who was legally blind and I didn't even know it until the end of a three-day workshop. Pretty amazing!
Thanks, alicesoneysmom — an extraordinary and inspiring woman who also happens to do great quilting.
As a result, I promise not to whine about anything … for at least a full day.
alice, thank you for that interview–it is life-changing to hear Diane's philosophy, attitude and see her work; a great video.
Thanks!
Coop, there was an actual attempt to grow cotton in southwestern Utah during the 1860's during
the Civil War. "Dixie" is the nickname for this area which might explain the South of the Mason
Dixon clue. LOL! Brigham Young sent a group of people to the area to see if it was feasible or
not. It's not a great area for growing cotton but it's a popular recreational and retirement
center today.
Neat story, DeerSpring. I didn't know how Dixie got named.
I remembered reading about this the other day. It seem to fall in with the quilting theme
on this thread.
DeerSprings my 4 gggrandfather, plowed the first ferrow in Salt Lake and in Dixie (St George) The LDS people (AKA mormons) were against slavery and were for the north. And helped in the cause, even though they were not a state yet (The state Of Deseret,).
Vicki, you have an interesting heritage with your great, great grandfather being among the
Mormons sent to this area of Utah. It takes alot of bravery and spirit to complete a
difficult and uncertain project in a new location.
a friend here tells me her great-great-great-great (I don't know how many "greats") grandfather was the first- director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!
I probably left out a great or two for Vicki's relative. The greats can really add up if
you go back far enough!
lucyourdog, here's a link to info about the fly fishing on the middle Provo, which is "our" neck of the woods. http://www.gohebervalley.com/Provo-River
There is a good picture of Mount Timpanogos at sunset and maybe you can make out the lady's profile (hint: her head is at the left end of the picture).
it looks like this section of the river is fly fishing only. The other thing is that access rights via private property have recently changed and I think the river itself is considered public but you cannot go across private property to access. Here's an article on the Provo River Restoration Project. The parking area mentioned for access is at the east boundary of the RMR property. http://www.mitigationcommission.gov/prrp/prrp.htm…
You, of course, will not have to worry if you own the Dream House because you just go out your own back door and into the stream.
Thank you so much Mrs Beehive. The article answers all the questions I had regarding what type of fishing is allowed in front of the home. It even illustrated places to bring the kids which mentions the upper Provo River and the South Fork are generally open to full bag limits and the restriction on artificial flies and lures are lifted. That area would be great for beginners. I'm glad to see there are no restrictions to fish the river even if it runs on someones property. Where I live the water way is fair game to the public which makes sense to me.
The second article was a fascinating piece of Provo history. You really didn't have to go out of your way and I'm very appreciative for the information. I can now dream about fishing from my future property…LOL! Ok, back to reality! The picture in your profile shows your little one is sitting on a Bumbo. We had the exact same color Bumbo when our little ones were capable of sitting by themselves or at least keeping their heads straight for a long enough period of time. They are great to use when everyone sits down to eat and the little one sits snug in the Bumbo. Your little one looks very handsome. I'm assuming he's seven to ten months in that picture. He has plenty of entertainment going on w/ the rattle and Pelican!
The winner is going to love being able to fish from their own back door. As a matter of fact they can even watch other fisherman do the work and when it's biting grab a pole and catch some supper. Mama can prepare the side dishes from her dream kitchen while Papa and kids try to catch the main course to be prepared on the grill xD That area sounds Dreamy Mrs Beehive!! Thanks so much for your efforts!!
That's our grandson. He's about 5 months in the picture and now he's 10 months and almost walking.
Does it freeze in the winter though?
The river? No it doesn't freeze. Does it freeze around here generally? Yes! Big time. You will need heat tapes on the front (north) of the house.
Ya the rivers here all freeze in the winter:( lol. How much rain do you get there, and how about sunny days?
Here you go, you can look up the average for any time of the year. I like it here, it's almost always sunny, even in winter. I lived in the Pacific NW (Tacoma area) before and it was rain rain go away day after day! <a href="http://www.wunderground.com/US/UT/Midway.html” target=”_blank”>www.wunderground.com/US/UT/Midway.html
Or, as I just explained to DBCoop, in farm country we say that the % chance of rain is highly correlated to the % of cows lying down in the grass! (with a 5% margin for error lol)
Ya I saw that site right after I wrote that comment. I saw also that the average sunny days is 229, that's nice! Looks like it gets cold there though:(
What are heat tapes?
Hi alice & soney–I did refer to him as my "poor pup", but in truth he is a distinguished old Boston Terrier who will be 12 yr.s old in November–he just has the energy of a puppy, LOL ! He was such a little devil when we brought him home as a 9 wk. old puppy, we named him Gizmo for about 3 days, but decided he resembled footage of a Tasmanian Devil we'd seen on a wildlife program. His AKC registry name is Tasman De' ville, but we just call him Taz.
Soney will get back to his old self, once your house quiets down from the excitement……
Don't forget Hawaii Mary and Jack T. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evzfGbFTr0Q&fe…
alicesoneysmom, I just love your links. That was beautiful. If HGTV can afford to pay 600,000 dollars for two lots, they probably can afford to build in Hawaii. For me personally, I would prefer they build in the southeast, closer to my home.
I'm trying to find out how much HGTV really paid for that property.
Midway Hot Pots
Beehive, you're probably aware of the dozens of active hot springs in Wasatch County. The Homestead Crater is available for scuba diving, swimming, and just plain soaking. You can access
it by walking through a 110' long tunnel. It's 200' in diameter, 55' high, and the water is 65' deep.
http://geology.utah.gov/surveynotes/geosights/hot…
The DIY Blog Cabin has Daria, the realtor. It looks like the DH has Steven Blankenship who assisted
HGTV in finding the lot for the DH.
http://www.trulia.com/blog/steveblankenship/2011/…
Wow! My neighbor is a realtor with that same agency and he said he knew NOTHING about the DH and was completely surprised.
Yes, I know all about the Hot Pots. Memorial Hill was a hot pot. There are hot springs all over the place and in the winter the elk come down from the hills and gather on the warm places. The Homestead Crater is the biggest one that is active right now. There was also one called "Mountain Spa" that is abandoned but that's where the elk congregate.
There is a place near where I live where they are putting in a thermal-heated greenhouse to grow vegetables all year round. They will take the heat out of the spring, then pipe the water back in the stream. You can buy the vegetables on a share basis, per family, for a certain amount of money per month and then you get whatever they are growing at that time.
Beehive, I have a feeling by the time this contest is over we will probably have been
introduced to a number of people in your area! Mr. Blankenship can really keep a
secret well!
lol
Hi lucyourdog, I saw Mike the produce manager at The Store in Midway today and asked him to clarify about the fly fishing. He said you can fish anywhere on the middle Provo but can only enter and exit at the designated spots unless you get landowner's permission to cross their property. Also, the river bank is considered public, so you could enter at the designated spots, walk downstream, and fish.
As far as he knows. you can also fish any kind of method you like, whether fly fish or cast and lures with live bait, but he said it would most likely not be very productive unless you are flyfishing.
We drove to Provo today and I saw many fly fishers in the lower fork (below Deer Creek Reservoir) and it looked like fun! We also saw a dozen or so wind-surfers out on the Deer Creek Reservoir. It's always a good breeze here, that sport looks a little bit too daring for my liking!
Mike said the upper Provo (above Jordanelle Reservoir) is where there have been the most disputes about access over private property. Around here, he knows so many of the property owners so he can get into the river wherever he likes. He said the best fly fishing on the Provo is that stretch along River Road (where our dream house will be).
Hope this helps fill out your vision!
You are the best Mrs Beehive!! We come from a small town as well where everyone knows everyone. I'm glad they placed the Dream Home in a small community but close enough to get to all the big things in Park City. That's one thing we're missing where we live. We have to drive three hours to hit a major city.
it looks like we never have to leave home to get the best fishing spot. Great sleuthing Mrs Beehive. I certainly realize how fortunate we are to have the inside scoop!!
Say thank you to your friendly produce manager. We think the Dream Home is in a great location and it appear to behold one of the best fishing spots in the US. C'mon Dec. 2011 and let's get this entry process started, LOL !!
Amen to that!
Oh man the stupid hgtv doesn't take me to the comments part anymore when i click "go to comment" so i didn't see your last comment beehive:/
I know, it's frustrating. I never get any emails and have to follow everything on the blog manually, so I'm sure I lose a lot, too.
Hey folks the JSA Architects have some of their mountain designs on their website. This one looked familiar: http://jsa-llc.com/portfolio/mtn-maglebyresidence…
Thanks, those were really nice.
Oh my, that really does look like the house!!!!
Soney and I are practicing our cooking skills in our new kitchen so we can invite our family over on the 4th of July. Don't think we are quite good enough yet but almost. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qqUjbDSzKM
That was too funny! I'm dying here, have some mercy!! The funny thing is, in Utah, every other thing is "heritage" or "legacy" this or that.
I responded to you a bit ago but it went gone with the wind. Maybe it will return someday. I just wanted to thank you for all your information and you are great!
Alice, I just watched that for the second time. It is so funny! You get the A+ for today.
Thanks so much beehivestate. We noticed the word "heritage" too while researching Utah and thought this would fit right in. Even though you don't see their face we thought this was great acting. You can tell their frustration when they throw the apple peel. Thanks for all your information beehivestate you are great!
I can't wait till my sisters get the link for that, it's going to go all over the place. I just loved it at the end when she tried to put the flag in. It kind of reminded me of the old "I Love Lucy" episode where Lucy and Ethel are working on the assembly line in the chocolate factory. I wonder if they have a YouTube for that?
beehivestate Soney and I posted this awhile back. It is so much fun to watch it again. We Love Lucy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uztA6JCKB4s
Can you believe how funny that is after all these years? Do you remember the episode with the cream pie, "slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch…" My sister and I used to play act that one out on our front porch with flour in a pie tin. What a mess!
I found your video hysterical, alicesoneysmom. Since my cooking skills (actually, the serious lack of) are well known among friends and family, I had to share this video with them.
Perfect timing for some good laughs this morning!
Our cooking skills are not the greatest either DBCoop. But we will keep on trying. Meanwhile, we need to clean up the kitchen again after our latest disaster the "Heritage Loaf."
I used to have an apron that said "I'D RATHER QUILT THAN COOK" and you know what? That apron was spotless even 20 years later when I gave it away.
LOL! Your spotless apron reminds me of a condo I lived in years ago. When I sold it, the buyer was just amazed because the oven had never been used, and I'd lived there for 5 years!
That and no wire hangers. Even Joan Crawford would have approved.
Me too, no wire hangers. I once told the saleswoman at Nordstrom that I would not buy the garments unless she let me have the faconnable hangers and she had to shhh me and snuck them into the bag. I told her Norstrom could not BUY that kind of good advertising and they should beg me to take those hangers! I have a new daughter-in-law now and I'm going to slowly convert her to all wooden hangers.
When we sold our last home, I also bragged that the stove was "like new" because I so rarely cook anymore.
Great video, Alice. You always find the best links!
Wyo_Girl thanks so much. Have to thank all the YouTubers out there that share with us their humor, music and so much more. Have to thank my producer and all my writers, my family and this blogging community, without you I would not have won such a wonderful comment. Whoops just fell off my soapbox. We have lots of fun here so many great people.
Well I hope your tiara didn't fall off!
What compass direction is the front door facing? I must have missed that. I would like to also know which part of the Dream Home will be facing the westerly winds.
The front of the Dream Home appears to be angled facing North by Northwest. We'll have to get our onsite inspector, beehivestate, to confirm the exact orientation.
That is correct! North and slightly NW. Better have heat tapes put on for the winter. One of the first questions an old-timer asked me when we moved here was "what direction does your driveway face?" and when I said "south," he said "it's a good thing!"
This gives a really nice southern exposure on the back side. It will be so great for those summer parties.and I notice the big front porch is well sheltered from the elements.
If you look at the construction photos, you can see how the RMR is divided into uphill and meadow sections and how River Road divides the two areas. You can also see how steep it is up the hill. Lots 26 and 27 are at the very top. From up there, you'd have a grand view of the entire Heber Valley and it would be simply spectacular at night with all the lights.
Hey, wasn't that compass (in clue) facing North by Northwest? I think it was….:)
Darn right! Good point.
Aren't they clever….? When I think of all the places on the map I studied and searched…
well,.. it just makes me giggle. Does anyone else MISS getting the clues? My atlas, what's left of it, is getting a little rest. LOL:D
I doubt seriously if anyone got those clues.
Yeah, I STILL don't get the clues!
I missed the boat as well. Makes Lucy wonder if her nose is a little off or HGTV had to abandon ship with the original plans via the clues and go with Plan B?? Business is business and things don't always go according to plan but ya always got to have a back up. Just curious if that's what happened here?? However, there's also a strong possibility that Lucy's owner is clueless. B)
At any rate, Lucy is really happy Utah is going to be the place Dreams are made of!! xD
Absolutely necessary for a driveway to face south when you live with winter- UNLESS you have a heated driveway – now that would be a Dream Home luxury option!
Ahhh, Alfred Hitchcock. I'm old enough to still hear him say "Good e-e-evening" in my mind!
LOL, and how about the theme music ? I always used to run to the tv to see him come onto the set and do his greeting.
Me too!
I'm checking out some other Park City, Utah homes. http://www.realestatehomesutah.com/Search/luxury_…
Cami, your earlier comment about Mary's little lamb gave me some inspiration for the following poem:
Mary Had A Little Plan …
Mary had a little plan
Her clues were cold as snow
Hours on end we thought and searched
Our spirits high, then low
We followed 'round from state to state
Not certain where to go
But everywhere the bloggers looked
Just one was in the know
Then when Mary spelled it out,
A shock it did bestow
All along our goose was cooked
We just didn't know it though
It truly made us cry and sigh
How could Mary be so cruel?
The lesson learned? Guess I'd say
This Dream Home's really cool!
I think I am still in shock mode. Serious shock mode… o.0
This poem is priceless…..you captured the (mis)adventure perfectly….
I was SOOOO close! I had said Wyoming – Yellow Stone area – from clue 1 . Its going to be beautiful. I found a land map of lots for this location. It must be of lot 26 or 28. this is the realtor that sold the lot to hgtv or so the say….. http://www.parkcityinvestor.com/rivermeadowsranch
Interesting link, and Steve seems quite proud of himself. I'm guessing he didn't post that until this week when the location was announced, but who knows?
My neighbor is a realtor with that same office and he said he heard NOTHING about the DH. I'm trying to find out how much was actually paid for the property but Utah is a non-disclosure state, so it may not be possible to get that information.
Wyomng and Idaho up there by Yellow Stone is very pretty that would be a good place for a dream house or even a Blog Cabin.
heres the lot map http://www.squidoo.com/HGTV_DreamHome-2012
sweet!
That guy thinks it's lot 27, we are way ahead of that… we've known it's lots 5 and 6 for over a week!
she snickers to herself quietly….
I took Coop's suggestion to google the RM at 2000 River Road, Midway UT . You can see the river, how it meanders; you can even see the fence line for the back of the DH and how far to the river. Notice how the river makes a little "island" right across from the house… our own private island! If you back up far enough you can follow the Provo right up to the Jordanelle Reservoir. Looking east from the house, notice the equine pavillion. It is one of the more recognizable structures in Heber and it is virtually on the other side of the river from our dream house and back a ways. I can see exactly where the house is and the house that is already there on lot 10. Remember, between lots 9 and 10 is open access to the river for the other property owners in RMR.
The DH lots are 5 & 6, right beehivestate?
Oh definitely, it's 5 and 6. You should google earth it like Coop said, it's really a neat view!
I did the same thing and also noticed the island. The river looks beautiful! I had to go back to the RMR lot map to see where 9 and 10 meet, and it looks like it's easy access to the river and also not as bad as people traipsing through the Dream Home lot to get there.
I saw a story on NBC about the high snow pack in Utah this year. They think the runoff will be HUGE, depending on temperatures in the next few weeks. I think it will affect the Wasatch Front more than the Wasatch Back, don't you, Midway BRE?
Yes, there is so much snow that the road over Guardsman Pass to Park City and the Alpine Loop Roads will not be open until early July. The reservoirs are high, there have been six drowinings on the waterways on the Wasatch Front since Memorial Day.
I've been thinking about that island, if there would be some way to "traipse" over there to picnic. The water is pretty deep, I doubt I could wade over. BRE back at you! (you had me for a minute there!!)
I followed the satellite south and zoomed in on my house and it showed me standing in the front yard (old picture because there was still construction going on). Google Earth is really neat.
Standing in your front yard, beehivestate? Were you out there waving to the satellite camera, or trying to count the cows as they headed for the barn to make sure none were missing? Or maybe giving Jack T directions to River Meadows Ranch?
That picture was 3 years old at least, but hey, maybe Jack was looking at land that far back. he does look a little bit like I've seen him somewhere before.
It was definitely me, I recognized the shirt I was wearing!
I also went on google earth and it was awsome as if I was there, so beautiful. I was just curious is there any other airport near the DH I know major airport is in Salt Lake City but is there any other smaller one? I know you mentioned hot air ballons flying by, how do they get launched is there a field?
yes, there is a small airport in Heber City and when the movie stars fly in for Sundance, they can land their private jets there. Also a small airport in Park City. The Heber City airport is down on the south end of town, at least 10 miles from the DH and just past where they're building the new Walmart. It's more of a commercial area.
Thank you so much for the info. You give us so much details on everything, beehivestate you rock!!!:D
So, you're out standing in your field, huh? Sorry, just had to say it. I looked at our house, and it's funny because we were putting in a shop two years ago, and we can see that it was the day before they dug the foundation, because my husband had mowed the meadow in a rectangle for them. I don't think they update too often, but I guess we can forgive them for that since there is so much to cover!
as John Denver would say, I was "FAR OUT" standing in my field!
So which part of the house is going to be limestone? It looks to be mostly timber from the renderings, or am I missing something?
Hi Debra, the first time I was down there I saw a slab of the stone they will most likely use… ElDorado Stone… it is something like granite gray in color and the pattern is random stacked stones. We have this kind of stone on our house and it looks very nice. A lot of builders in this area use it. I'm thinking it will probably be on the lower portion all the way around but who knows?
In the clues Mary gave she said solid limestone, but that could have been a rouse. Is the stone you are referring to a solid rock?
Google ElDorado stone to get an idea. It's a stone facade, attached to the building with a grid of wire mesh and mortar. It doesn't look anything like limestone to me.
The limestone clue? Talk about a ruse, Debra G. Which happens to rhyme perfectly with goose. As in wild goose. But this time, it wasn't a lone wild goose, it was a whole flock of wild geese! And all flying off in different directions.
By the way, here and now, I'm posting my location guesses for next year. This way, when the clues come out for DH 2013, I'll just be kicking back, taking it easy, watching the geese scatter every which way while I sit calm, cool and collected.
There is no doubt in my mind that Dream Home 2013 will be located in one of the following:
AL AK AZ AR CA CO CT DE FL GA HI ID IL IN IA KS KY LA ME MD MA MI MN MS MO MT NE NV NH NJ NM NY NC ND OH OK OR PA RI SC SD TN TX UT VT VA WA WV WI WY
I call it my buckshot approach. Name enough states, and you're bound to hit your target! No wild goose, just a dead duck!
LOLOLOL!!!!! You win, Coop!! That was easy enough, now wasn't it?!? Haha!
And for the record I think it will be in VIRGINIA! VIRGINIA I say! Did you hear that Jack & Mary?! VIRGINIA! Phew, I feel so much better now…=/
Maybe it will be a wild turkey chase (we have those here).
Do they always have a "doggie dream home," too? Our dog is a blue heeler and most people out here have BIG dogs. I can't imagine a heeler or a Border Collie in that little tiny thing they built for Stowe. Cute but essentially worthless for anything bigger than one of those little Paris Hilton dogs.
Doggie Dream Homes, you ask, beehivestate. Well, no need to bark up the wrong tree — just check out the following HGTV video. Great viewing for pampered pets and their owners! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9bAUI5AoTs
Thanks for the video, Coop. I think my favorite is the Lake Lure Doggie Dream Home.
Loved it, thanks!
I'm sure that if Dream Home 2012 has an official HGTV Doggie Dream Home, this spacious Park City/Midway, Utah ranch house will come with a super-sized doggie dream home for just about any size dog, from Teacup to Tibetan Mastiff.
Maybe the doggie dream home is going to be on lot 5 and be a mini-barn with a Monitor-style roof.
That's it, beehivestate! I think you've hit the doggie dream home nail right on the head. A sprawling doggie ranch home on lot 5, and the people Dream Home on lot 6!
I can just see the signs on lot 5 now — "No trespassing — unless bringing food!"
ROFL!
I have some news from a source who shall remain unnamed, that the lots 5 and 6 are not even recorded in the MLS as sold yet. Go figure.
My friend thinks maybe HGTV got a good deal on the land and they don't want the exact price to be known, as several of the current property owners might be upset. Just my guess. I could be completely FAR OUT in left field on that.
Here's a little more unnamed source information! Lots 5 and 6 have been merged (several months ago) and are now legally defined as Lot 5A. Considering that the building permit was only issued in early May, an amazing amount of work has already been completed.
We probably won't have floor plans out for awhile, but at least we can engage in idle speculation to our heart's content until then!
Beehive, do you know what the real estate property taxes are like in Wasatch County?
I guess, if I have to ask, I cannot afford it. LOL
My property taxes are 1/3 of what they were in WA but I have a smaller lot. No, I don't know exactly the rate but you should be able to find it under Utah.gov The cost of living is WAY lower here, I can say that. My homeowners insurance is a third of what it was, our car insurance is less by at least 40%, and the sales tax is about 6.4%, compared to over 9% where I used to live. Utah does have state income tax but we are retired so it doesn't fall on us. If we win the DH, however, we would have to pay it! The eagle would be screaming for sure!
I'm sure someone else will have the better data on the property tax question once we find out the total value of the prize package for this house. It will be high, that's for sure, but not as high as Stowe was. I also wonder what the HOA dues will be for RMR. In our little area, our HOA dues are $150/month and that includes all the yard service and the snow removal from our private roads. We have to do our own driveway but we bought a snow blower.
The other thing, I read recently that Midway is the lowest taxing district in the Wasatch county and Summit County (where Park City is). That should be good. Homes are VERY expensive in Park City, a little fixer would go for close to $400K !
For now, just let's dream and not worry about those nitpicky little details!
Hi WVBea,
I was wondering the same thing, so I investigated that very thing. A home worth $400,000 would have taxes of ~ $4000 – $4500. So, roughly speaking it seemed to be just over $1000 per $100,000. The taxes were hard to figure in Utah. The size of the house, the size of the property & the exact location all played into the figure. There is only one other house in that subdivision & I couldn't get that information. Usually, I can find this out so easily, but not here. The taxes may be lower that I figured. If I find out for sure, I'll let you know.
I feel like you- I probably can't afford it, if I have to ask. Lol!!! ^_^
