  1. I ran a google on limestone in Utah and there are limestone quarry's all over the place up here. Maybe that's part of the clue. Remember "quarry" on the scrabble board?

  2. Hope all is well with you beehive.
I love the info, so keep it coming. I love the education without the effort. Lol!!!
How long does it take to drive to Las Vegas? Zion Canyon?

MsTrishFl on June 13, 2011 at 7:21 am
    • Zion is in the south part of Utah, probably at least 4-5 hours. LV I don't know but Denver is 8 hours drive.

    • Thanks!!

  3. Good Monday morning to all. ^_^

    Mary, Mary, Mary,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I hope you are feeling so good this Monday morning, you just are compelled to give us a gift!!!! ^_^
Please, please let us see the floor plan. I would love to look & dream. That would keep me busy for a week or two. We could all discuss it. Give our opinions or suggestions about it. This really could get us going. :)

    FLOOR PLAN!!! FLOOR PLAN!!! PLEASE!!!

MsTrishFl on June 13, 2011 at 7:36 am
    • Good morning Ms Trish! I agree we need FLOOR PLANS!!!!!!

irishsprite on June 13, 2011 at 10:07 am
      • I think we'll have to keep on her. Mary doesn't seem to want to give it up yet. I just can't visualize with only wood framing. I know it looks good, but the inside is impossible for me to see anything other that the fantastic views from the windows. And, the views are fantastic!!!

MsTrishFl on June 13, 2011 at 6:30 pm
  4. Hey Mary! If we put it to a vote and everyone agrees can we please have the floor plans?

At least a new blog thread lol.

  5. The time lapse photos look great so far. The home looks quite large, and the views from the home look spectacular!!! But I am really hoping that we get to see the floorplans very soon. Could we please see those floor plans Mary? Today if possible. I really do love this home!

  6. Does anyone know how many months ahead you got floor plans for the Stowe house? I wasn't on the blog back in the day. I really expected to see something new when I logged on this morning. I wish.

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 11:14 am
    • I thought there would be something new too – like FLOOR PLANS!! I wasn't on the blog during the guessing the location phase so I'm no help with how soon they came out after that. I wish we would get them though because that round or octagon-shaped thing at the back of the house is driving me crazy, which is the last thing I need. I'm already crazy as a loon as it is…LOL!!!!

irishsprite on June 13, 2011 at 11:29 am
    • Based on past experience, beehivestate, I'm clueless.

Actually, it varies from year to year and giveaway to giveaway, depending on (I can only assume) factors that are both out of and within Mary's control.

Last year, if I have my information correct, the floor plans were placed online July 17, 2010 — but keep in mind that date doesn't mean all that much because there's no set timeframe for posting them.

It's kind of like the question of when does the goose lay the golden egg. The answer is, when its good and ready! You just have to keep looking every morning to see what's in the nest!

    • I was hoping to see floor plans as well instead more construction photos :( ….Mary needs to play catch up with the blog. We need floor plans please so we can pair them with the photos Tivo_girl shared with us.

  7. The poll on the front Dream Home page was a difficult vote. Lucy votes this way: Provo River and Mountains tied for first, homestyle second and then skiing which is a great family event. Nothing Lucy doesn't like about the 2012 Dream Home. Mary you have everyone very excited with this home; thus, people will want more updates. Well, me too! B)

lucyourdog on June 13, 2011 at 11:34 am
    • I debated between Mountain Views and Home Style. Of course, it could have been an easier choice for me if one of the selections would have been Hawaiian Island mountain views! For the time being, I'm enjoying the Utah mountain views AND the Dream Home's style. So much so that I'm trying to fit in a trip to the Park City area — if only I can untangle myself from current commitments.

DBCoop on June 13, 2011 at 11:53 am
      • Couldn't agree more Coop! ;) One Dream Home at a time, Lucy will Dream Utah this go around. I hope you untangle prior commitments so we can get the infamous DBCoop's perspective first hand!!

I took my four year old fishing yesterday for the first time. As I was going through my gear, I realized I had more fly fishing stuff than I thought. I gave up hunting and fishing ever since my toddlers were born. Now that they are getting old enough, the Provo River has to rank pretty high on Lucy's list. It's been so long since I've been fly fishing that I forgot my pole and reel was a Cortland and not a Cabelo's model. So, Lucy's has a lot to dream about. We went to a local lake and got skunked the first go around. Next time I'll bring worms and even if we catch junk fish it will be the experience that will bring a smile to his face!!

I still get my Hawaiian fix when my wife makes Blue Hawaiians. It was you that provoked us to try one, lol!! Innocuously of course. ;)

lucyourdog on June 13, 2011 at 12:06 pm
        • Sounds like an exciting first fishing expedition. With a little practice, you'll all be ready for the Provo River in no time.

I don't mind taking credit for the Blue Hawaiians, but none of the blame! Just like the fishing, after a little practice, you'll be pros on the Blue Hawaii circuit when you step up to a few of those enjoyed under swaying palms, a white sand beach, tropical waters, and a real Hawaiian luau complete with lovely Hawaiian hula dancers.

Now, back to the Wasatch Mountains of Utah…

  9. I'm going to write in segments because my post just disappeared. Today there is a very large NO TRESPASSING, COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION, HARD HAT AREA sign posted in the front, so I skirted the property and crossed down to the river. I had my binoculars with me this time, so it was easy to see what was going on. Almost all the windows on the first floor are in and it looks like beautiful french doors going out to the five decks, front and back.

irishsprite, I still can't figure out the back but it does not look like an observation tower. I will continue to watch that "round" thing you are talking about.

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 2:20 pm
    • Thanks for checking beehive. I am completely stumped about what it could be. It seems in an odd location for an outdoor fireplace, since it's right up against the house and down at the end. This really has me puzzled and a little bit obsessed…LOL!!!!

irishsprite on June 13, 2011 at 2:27 pm
    • Did you say you whipped out your binoculars….you guys are cracking me up! If I won we would definitely have to have a blog party, even if we had to skype!

  10. Wyoming girl, guess what? I walked all along the public access area along the river bank and I scoped out our island. It's BIG (kids could make a neat camp out there) and on the north end, I saw three fly fishermen waist deep out in stream. I walked a little farther up and around another bend were three more fishing guys. I turned around and I saw this little white puff ball in a tree. I went to blow it off and it turned out to be a fishing lure and a very neat one at that… white, pink, moss green and little fish eyes. I stuck it to my shirttail (bad plan) and when I got home I could not get it off without taking my quilting scissors and cutting a chunk out of my shirt, well, I don't care! Now I have a good luck talisman. This is a seriously bodacious lure, bigger than a marshmellow and very fluffy. BRE!!!

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 2:25 pm
    • I don't know anything about fly fishing. I guess I better learn before I move into the DH…LOL!!!! I have heard that tying those fishing lures is quite an art though. Your sounds beautiful, beehive!

    • Sorry about your shirt…. :(

Dreamenthusiast on June 13, 2011 at 4:15 pm

EdinOregon on June 13, 2011 at 7:24 pm
    • Oh, cool, Midway! It seems like in the high runoff season, you may only be able to get over to our island with waders. I wonder if it's easier to cross in late fall? Congrats on getting the fishing lure — does it look like this? http://www.greentophuntfish.com/browse.cfm/green-

      Wyo_Girl on June 14, 2011 at 9:32 am
      • Same colors but it was big and round and fluffy, like a dandelion puff only bigger. I bet the water level will be lower by fall, I'll have to watch that. This is the first time I've ever paid very much notice to the river, close up.

  11. Apparently in Utah there's always room for Jell-O — it is the official state snack food! In case you are wondering why (I sure did!), here is the explanation from Wikipedia:

The [Mormon Corridor] region has also been identified as the "Jell-O Belt", referring to the 20th century Mormon cultural stereotype that Mormons have an affinity for Jell-O … In support of this image, Jell-O was designated as Utah's official state snack food in 2001. When drafting the resolution, the Utah Legislature gave many reasons to recognize Jell-O, including that Utah had been the highest per capita consumer of Jell-O for many years, and how citizens of Utah had rallied to "Take Back the Title" after Des Moines, Iowa exceeded Utah in Jell-O consumption in 1999 … Bill Cosby, longtime spokesperson for the Jell-O brand, appeared before a joint session of the Utah Legislature in support of the bill. "He told the assembly that he believes the reason people in Utah love Jell-O is that the snack is perfect for families — and the people of Utah are all about family."

So now you know — make mine strawberry, please! :D

CplusE on June 13, 2011 at 2:27 pm
    • Not just any jello, it has to be GREEN JELL-O!

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 3:15 pm
      • LOL! Apparently Utah is the land of Lime (green) Jell-O and Funeral Potatoes:

        http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Land-of-Funeral-Potat

I had never even heard of Funeral Potatoes. Now out of curiosity I'm going to have to look up Frog-Eye Salad!

CplusE on June 13, 2011 at 4:06 pm
        • Funeral potatoes? I'm sure they're a great comfort food, but the name is a little disconcerting!

All this talk of Lime Jell-O made me wonder about health stats, so here's a few bits of info I found out based on the 50 state rankings: the healthiest place to live is Vermont, at #1. Hawaii comes in at #5, Oregon at 15, Washington at number 11, Virginia needs a little work since it's at #22, Pennsylvania comes in at 27, California hits the charts at 26, and the Beehive State weighs in at number 7. Not bad.

In which case, if I won the Dream Home and moved to Utah, I could be almost 4 times as healthy, apparently, even if I enjoy my lime jell-o and funeral potatoes more often than I should.

It seems the ideal would be to winter in Hawaii, summer in Utah, and vacation in Vermont.

DBCoop on June 13, 2011 at 5:07 pm
          • Most of the healthy people are residing in Park City where they are very young and probably don't eat funeral potatoes. Everyone in Park City is pretty much young, thin, and very active. I once went into a nice shop to buy jeans and was told they had nothing in my size (8).

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 5:33 pm
          • Funeral potatoes are …. ummmm…interesting….

Every family (often every branch of the family) has its own, closely guarded secret recipe. Some are pretty good, some, rather uggh.

I was always told the name is from the tradition of the local Relief Society (a woman's group in the LDS Church) bringing food to funerals when someone in their Ward (a unit of the LDS Church) passed away. Figure a traditional LDS family had 6-8 kids per wife (joking- this is supposedly post-polygamy) and you quickly need a lot of food for such events. Things that are easy to make in large volumes and can sit on buffet tables are hugely popular here.

AWW on June 13, 2011 at 6:43 pm
        • OMG, I forgot about frog-eye salad. When I first came here, a new friend took me out to a deli for lunch and MADE me order the frog-eye salad. She said, if you live here, you need to know what this is.

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 5:25 pm
          • Yummiest new salad ever. The best recipes are really quite complicated. Just like anything made with macaroni. It's the kind of salad that expands over time, so you always have more in the fridge than you started with. LOL. I wonder if I should make some for my kids again. Sounds like a good summer salad.

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 8:45 pm
          • I looked up a recipe and apparently it is a thick ambrosia-type salad with pasta. I love pasta, and I've had ambrosia salad, but I never would have thought to combine the two — I'm not a fan of the ambrosia though, so I don't think I'll be making any frog-eye salad. I did find out that the salad gets its name from the type of pasta used called "acini de pepe", which means peppercorns in Italian but I guess looks like frog eyes when cooked and used in this salad. The things we learn when doing research for this Dream Home blog are just mind-boggling sometimes!

CplusE on June 13, 2011 at 9:27 pm
      • Don't forget the shredded carrot!

AWW on June 13, 2011 at 6:37 pm
        • You mean in the green jello? Yuck! I never understood how that recipe became popular. Sometimes with pears or pineapple. I wonder if that jello salad became popular in the 50's. I think that it's time for that salad to pass away. =/

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 8:40 pm
          • Would that make it funeral jello?

AnneEliseSouth on June 13, 2011 at 9:37 pm
        • Seafoam salad is popular in my family. I never quite "get it." I like the raspberry jello.

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 10:05 pm
    • I almost couldn't stop laughing. A green jello dish is always at a church function, and I've probably tasted every recipe (I'm not a fan of any of them). I'm surprised nobody mentioned the pistachio salad, that's my favorite (also green). I prefer my jello salads red, with whipped cream. I don't know when funeral potatoes became popular, but they are basically a shredded potato cheese casserole. I think they became popular because they cook faster. Boil potatoes until half-way done, peel, then shred and bake with the usual cheese, sour cream and whatever. Then top with buttery crackers or whatever your recipe dictates. They go great with the ham which is usually served at a "mormon" funeral, along with rolls, and green salad, and dessert. This meal is provided by the Relief Society (the women) to the grieving family members, who are usually from out of town and hungry. The after funeral meal is a tradition that'll never die (no pun intended) That's not to say that the menu will never change. Actually any casserole is popular with LDS (Mormon) culture. When I first heard the term "funeral potatoes" I was mortified. I used to love scalloped potatoes and now they just make me sad even if I don't shred the potatoes. They really need to change the name or stop serving the same ol' thing. Really!! I'm going to have happy potatoes served at my funeral. LOL

While the funeral potatoes may seem sad and boring, you'll never be disappointed with dessert. There's always a variety and delicious. The LDS know their dessert as well as their chocolate. LOL

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 8:26 pm
      • I can second that from first-hand experience at the Midway quilt guild! These ladies are some kind of cooks!!

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 10:04 pm
      • I agree, Cami, the name funeral potatoes IS a bit somber for a casserole dish. Maybe they could call them funeral duds spuds? Just to dress 'em up a little…. ^_^

DBCoop on June 14, 2011 at 12:01 am
        • I'm afraid that may only catch on in Idaho. In fact that title may already be circulating around the spud State.

      Wyo_Girl on June 14, 2011 at 9:39 am
      • I missed that. I'll bet there's more to this famous green jello salad than I've ever heard. I'll have to research that.

Cami on June 15, 2011 at 4:14 am
    • Ok, here's my lime jell-o confession. I LOVE that lime jell-o, pineapple, and cottage cheese concoction. I go crazy every time someone serves it. I have no idea what it's called, I don't really like the ingredients when eaten separately, and it sounds disgusting. But combine everything together and it's the most heavenly thing you've ever eaten…LOL!!!!!!

If you've never had it…be daring and try some. You won't be sorry and I bet you eat the whole bowl that same day!!

irishsprite on June 15, 2011 at 12:47 pm
  12. lucyourdog, I thought of you. Your kids will love fishing and exploring the common areas with the little ponds, beautiful birds, tall grass, lots of hide-out places… plenty of adventures… You'll have to stay with them, the river runs very fast and would be an attractive nuisance. The little island is like something out of Swiss Family Robinson or Tom Sawyer! When I showed my husband my find, he pulled out a box of feather lures that a friend of ours bequeathed to us, lures that he had used in Alaska. We're good to go!!

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 2:28 pm
    • Yep, you're right about staying with the kids. Our two year old is fearless. He's into everything and walking to the water appears to be a fun challenge to him unaware of the dangers!! :o We fished off a causeway yesterday and he would go straight to the water. Mom had to restrain him a few times whilehe raced for the water. He laughed and saw it more as a game of tag your it….catch me if you can!!

He'll be three by the time the winner is announced next year. Hopefully, by then he'll have developed an understanding of some boundaries. I'd love to see a picture of the island. Let me know how your fishing expeditions go!! :)

  13. Janzee, it is so peaceful out here. Imagine lying in bed or sitting out on the back deck on a summer evening, windows open, and you can hear only the river and the crickets. Our last home had a creek in the back yard and sometimes I even thought it was raining when it was just the creek. The feng shui here is incredible. You can feel the good vibes all around. No wonder Jack picked this property. At night the skies are so black and the stars are very distinct. I often get up during the night and go out to look at the moon and the stars. One night, Venus was right on the tip of the quarter moon, big as pie! Namaste.

I wasn't going to say anything but I truly did get some new fortunes from Panda Express Friday. The first one said I will do better with real estate than with stocks. The second one said all my dreams will become reality. The third one was strange… It said business and health are important???. Everything will blossom around you.
      What can that mean.?

    • It's a four-seasons climate, rent the house out in the ski season and enjoy the rest of the year . If you like outdoor activities at all, there's so much to see and do. People around here who don't like the cold, they go to ST. George (southern Utah) in the winter.

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 3:48 pm
      • Shhh, beehivestate. Renting it out during ski (or whatever) season, or even taking the cash instead of the home (as most folks do) is a secret. The fewer that know about it, the less competition there is for us! ^_^

that she selected for the Colorado DH? This site has HGTV written all over it!
    http://grandlogfurniture.com/Coloradologfurniture

DeerSpring on June 13, 2011 at 4:27 pm
    • What nice pieces! They would look so good with some of my quilts over those beds. Somehow I doubt Linda will repeat what she already did, though. I'm really looking forward to seeing her interpretation of our area. I visualize a huge stone fireplace, leather chairs, some Pendleton blankets, and maybe fishing creels for accessories. Linda is the best, whatever she does I'm sure I will like (except for that radiator chair and stick chair in the Green Home). I go for comfort! I'm hoping for a little reading nook overlooking the river, on the second floor.

      • I know what you mean about "those" chairs, but here's my take on them. I love what I call "yard art", you know that funky stuff that dresses up a garden….well I would put that ol' radiator chair and the stick chair somewhere in the yard and pile lots of potted flowers on them. I must say beehivestate I've thoroughly enjoyed your expert reporting on this wonderful new Dream Home, mucho gracias.

  17. Maybe we all could take 2 weeks a year & share the Dream Home. That might help out on the taxes, at least a little bit. And, we'd all be winners. LOL!!!! xD
If I win, my door is open to visitors—- Only one requirement——- You have to be somewhat normal!!!!! Actually, there are two requirements——– You can only stay for 2 weeks a year (max.). But, being essentially normal is the most important. And dogs are always welcome!!!! LOL!!! xD xD ^_^

MsTrishFl on June 13, 2011 at 5:52 pm
    • I hereby volunteer to be your tour guide. I can't cook but I know all the best places to eat. Not a bad idea to take two weeks each, I think you're on to something.

  18. I had hoped for a new thread by now, but Mary certainly deserves a rest after all the
threading she has done lately. Two more days and Mr. Samples will have to wake her up.
She will be busy for a few days and then she should get back to the Dream house. The
descriptions so far has been so well said that we can imagine what it will look like.
My HGTV has been odd today with no answering or replying back, just at the end and that
is all. It’s been fun but I have to go to my grandson’s four year old’s birthday party.
bye but for those who wouldn’t mind winning the GH Good Luck.

  19. Oh, & Mary,
Could they build a nice walkway to the river & maybe a siiting area to fish or just listen to the rippling water?

MsTrishFl on June 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm
    • That sounds beautiful, I can see it in my mind already. How about a little camping sight tucked into the landscape too. Complete with fire pit.:)

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 7:46 pm
      • Wouldn't it be neat if they built an outdoor fire pit by the big patio? And I also want a porch swing out back.

My winning scream is the same for the Grren Home too. LOL!! ^_^

Then when I've gathered my composure, I'll run around and try to surprise my husband and kids. We'll be jumping and crying together. Even with the fainting and crying it sounds like a blast.B)

  22. Hey guys, we're so into this fly fishing ambience that we decided to make a pilgrimage to Cabellas tomorrow. Want me to get you anything?!

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 7:05 pm
    • Yes, see if they have an automatic fly fisher. I don't think I can flip the line over my head more than 3 times without getting tired or hung up on my hat. You don't think that takes too much sport out of it do you?
I may have been dreaming but I think someone on here said fly fishing was the best way to catch anything out of the Provo River. Those fish sound very competitive and must hold a good defensive line. I'll probably have to "fake pass" the pole to my husband when the fish aren't looking, that'll surprise them. Ha!! just when they thought they were safe from this novice fisher-lady.
      B)B) Dinner is on!!

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 7:38 pm
      • I've never heard of an automatic flyfisher. Are you serious or are you kidding me? If I go into Cabellas and ask for that, are they going to fall on the floor laughing?

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 8:37 pm
        • I've never heard of it before but I think I should patent the idea, especially if some fish are going to be so picky about the way they are caught. ^_^

Cami on June 13, 2011 at 9:03 pm
    • A virtual pilgrimage to Cabela's!! Hmmm, Let's see…the Cabela's Traditional 11/Prestige Plus Outfit is on sale and with reel and fishing line. You'll need a leader and some spray or powder to help your fly's float. As for the fly's I would go with your local shop for that. They know what works in your area ;) . You'll need to get a fishing vest with plenty of pockets, some waders, a hat (for me preferably a baseball cap), fishing net, fishing basket in bamboo, fly repellent, and and and….Whoa I get excited when I think of this place.

Don't forget Mrs Beehive it's Father's Day weekend coming up and the sales will be GOOOOOOD!! xD Maybe, you have HGTV tag along with you so they can get their stuff on sale now to fill the garage with some goodies B) But, most of all have fun you two!!

lucyourdog on June 13, 2011 at 7:44 pm
      • As we drove by The Four Seasons fly shop in Heber this afternoon, my husband mentioned wishing for a guided half-day trip on the Provo. His birthday is the 17th, and I don't know what to get him. he already has a fishing rod made by a friend in Haines Alaska and he has a reel, I guess he would need waders, I'll have to make a list for tomorrow and look into these things. It might be a spendy day tomorrow!

I'm going to ask Mike at The Store about the proper flies to use.

Please go back to building smart and stylish!!

My dream home would be a home I could take care of without having to hire people. The Dream green home is much more interesting. I will sit out this Dream Home.

    mojo1024 on June 13, 2011 at 10:08 pm
    • I didn't vote you thumbs down but I don't agree with you at all. This home fits the site and will be very "smart and stylish" for Utah.

beehivestate on June 14, 2011 at 10:38 am
  27. For Utah, this is not really a "big" home. Houses… and families… are big here. The house built on lot 10 is larger than this one will be. I prefer a smaller home at this stage in life, it is more affordable and easier to take care of for us, but this will be a beautiful home for the right family. I'm glad HGTV found this beaUTiful spot.

I agree that it's nice to have a manageable home that a person can take care of themselves. However, if people can afford it without going into debt, why not have a Dream Home?

beehivestate on June 13, 2011 at 11:21 pm
  28. Wow, now this is what I'm Dreaming about…This is truly my Dream Home! Ranch style for my bad knees. By the river, with Gold Meadow trout! 21/2 acres .. Large enough for my large family a dream come true. I'm looking forward to this build. Utah, Utah, LOVE it…..

    Rday19 on June 13, 2011 at 11:42 pm
    • The ranch style name is deceiving, because it does have two floors and the master is on the second floor, according to photos taken by tivo girl. Sorry about your knees, but I hope it's still your dream home!

  29. The first time I went flyfishing, was with my family. My dad was stationed in FT. Leonard Wood MO, I think I was about 13-14. In '77 or'78. We went to Bennett Springs Park for Opening Day.
It's a Rainbow Trout Stream. As we walked from our campsite to get our spot, I couldn't believe all the people lined up, waiters up to your chest, some had vests, and hats and tiny little fly hooks attached to everything. After we found our spots it was clear we were to be quiet and still, Iwasn't sure why?
Well, ..At precisely at 6:00 am a whistle blew. Then as if at some ballet, you could hear swish swosh swish the lines flying back and forth little jerks. all in unison, hundreds of poles bending like whispy willow branches. Great memory. My brother still hand makes some of the most beautiful flies I've ever seen, Whereever my dad was stationed he and mom always made sure we experienced everything the local land or counrty offered. WE were staioned in Ft. Carson in Colorado when dad was in Vietnam. Mom still took us to everything, Kissing Camel.that's another story. heehee <SPAN class=idc-smiley><SPAN style="BACKGROUND-POSITION: -24px -12px"><SPAN>B)</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>

  30. Talking of furniture, we always like to wonder which direction Linda Woodrum will go in the Utah ranch style Dream Home. Maybe a touch of Ethan Allen's New Country Robyn Bed? She could go clean and crisp with the bed linens, or bring in the quilts for a classic country look.
    http://www.ethanallen.com/product?productId=1311&cat...

DBCoop on June 14, 2011 at 12:29 am

rebornqueen on June 14, 2011 at 12:55 am
    • Ethan Allen was a VT company. She's going to use something from Utah, I bet. There is a place in Park City called "Elegante," it's on Main Street by Java Cow and they have the most wonderful furniture and home accessories. I like the Pendleton look and I see ranch style furnishings and a warm, casual, relaxed ambience. I don't see a modern vibe for this house at all. So much of what she did in Stowe would fit here, I know she will make this house very unique and I can't wait to see! There is a wonderful custom cabinet maker in Midway, Peirce Cabinets, maybe she'll use them.

        • Looking back through the history of the Dream Home, I found references to Ethan Allen furnishings as a Dream Home sponsor going back to 2007. Before that, I don't know.

If Ethan Allen remains a Dream Home sponsor, Linda will have to continue her creative streak. EA has a wide range of furniture styles, but they may have to bring out more new designs to keep up with all of the Dream Homes and Green Homes that Linda will furnish over the years.

    • Coop, that's the same bed they used in the 2008 Islamorada Dream Home master bedroom:

      http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20

Do you think Linda W. will do a repeat?

CplusE on June 14, 2011 at 10:19 am
      • Thanks for pinpointing the year that Linda used the Robyn bed before. I thought it was familiar, but figured that with a completely different set of bed linens, colors and accessories, Linda could return to that style if she wished. It's possible, but more than likely Linda will strike off in a new direction.

Hmm, contemporary ranch? Rustic ranch? Or eclectic ranch? Only Linda (and Jack T) know for sure.

Dreamenthusiast on June 14, 2011 at 3:10 pm
    • They seem to have an "in" with Ethan Allen, or least a sponsorship. They've used them in almost all the DH's. Coop, I wonder if that bed comes with reindeer as an accessory?

BTW: Mary, the Main DH Page says daily pictures. We all know we're "in-the-Pink", wrap that is, per Beehivestate, so why are the pictures so delayed. No plans, ok I can live with that, pictures will suffice for now but keep them coming….The animals need feeding regularly or they get restless.

Just an observation. It looks like the area with the two upper bedrooms and bath may be able to be separated from the rest of the house. Maybe a partial rental opportunity will be presented? No telling who might rent during Sundance….

She has such decorating expertise that she makes each piece the perfect choice for a room. I'm sure Linda will find the right mix of classic, stylish pieces, like those EA offers, and blend them with local finds. It's what she does so well!

  33. In the state of Utah:

    - It is illegal to fish from horseback.

    - It is illegal NOT to drink milk.

    - It is illegal to detonate any nuclear weapon.

    - Birds have the right of way on all highways.

    - It is a felony to persistently tread on the cracks between paving stones on the sidewalk of a state highway.

    - It IS legal for restaurants to serve wine with meals, but ONLY if you ask for the wine list first.

    - It is considered an offense to hunt whales.

    - It is illegal to sell alcohol during an emergency.

    - It is illegal to cause a catastrophe.

In the city of Logan: It is illegal for women to swear.

In the city of Provo – Throwing snowballs will result in a $50 fine.

In Salt Lake County – It is illegal to walk down the street carrying a paper back containing a violin.

DeerSpring on June 14, 2011 at 11:44 am

-Ladies living in Logan please don't slip and fall and say the Ahh sh_t word….not good. Instead say Awe Do Do, lol!

-illegal not to drink milk?? o.0 Careful they may not need a search warrant to check your fridge. The exception to the warrant may be exigent circumstances. :)

      - Whatever you do on the highways of Utah, make sure you drive straight to avoid the cracks and make sure you consumed your milk prior to departure!! They may be able to summons you for 'Not drinking milk while on cracks' LOL!!

      - Are Whales now living in fresh water in their lakes?? B)

      • I would like to know why Utah Legislature voted on the illegality of hunting whales. Makes me wonder if there was a case where someone committed the infraction in another coastal water state and transported it through the state of Utah. Mrs. Beehive was there ever an issue in the state of people illegally possessing whale products? I'm baffled by this law. :S

lucyourdog on June 14, 2011 at 12:43 pm
      • Great Salt Lake isn't fresh water, maybe we DO have whales.

beehivestate on June 14, 2011 at 5:49 pm
        • Believe it or not, there were two whales in the Great Salt Lake for a very brief time. Here's
          the story:

"Weird stories don't end with the grave robber, however. In 1875, James Wickham was brainstorming for ideas to attract tourists to the lake and its shore-side resorts. One afternoon, Wickham stood on Ensign Peak above Salt Lake City, gazed out at the vastness of the lake, and was struck with a magnificent idea: Whales! Wickham bought two 35-foot whales in Australia and shipped them by boat to San Francisco then railway to the Great Salt Lake. Wickham has visions of 'farming' the whales, and pictured idyllic scenes of the whales swimming around lakeside docks, where visitors could practically reach out and touch them. The whales were released into the lake, but instead of hanging around the docks, they swam off and were never seen again. Though most believe they died quickly due to the high salinity of the lake, there are from time to time stories of 'monster' sightings on the lake. In one report from around the turn of the century, a whole boatload of sailors swore up and down that they saw a 60-foot beast in the moonlit waters."

I have that type of setup at home here and I wouldn't do it again. Although, I don't have the stone fireplace. It's a nice Symphony electric fireplace in mahogany. Hoping Jack and Linda see this since I'm sure they pay close attention to Coop. After all, Lucy does! ;)

  35. Ah yes, speaking of illegal whale hunting in Utah again — from a February 26 2005 online article of The Times (UK) British student Richard Smith, 23, plans to risk being arrested for falling asleep in a cheese factory in South Dakota and going whale-hunting in landlocked Utah. He intends to break about 40 strange state and town laws as he crosses America, starting from the notorious former prison island of Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay.

His 18,000-mile journey across the continent will end in Hartford, Connecticut, where it is illegal to cross the road while walking on your hands. The inspiration for his criminal crusade came while he was playing a board game which included details of a law forbidding widows in Florida from going parachuting on Sundays.

History doesn't seem to have recorded what happened to this young man on his journey of mayhem. Perhaps he only got as far as the Provo River, and can still be found there, happily fly fishing — and content with his catch of a few trout.

AnneEliseSouth on June 14, 2011 at 2:51 pm
      • That's funny, AnneEliseSouth. Believe it or not, I guess I'm either a magnet or a lightning rod, depending on your perspective. While I can claim an ancestral relationship to the Marriott's of the well-known hotel chain (and prominent LDS members) I'm not aware of any link to the Ripley's. Who knows — there might be a genetic factor passed down by a Ripley descendant that predisposes me to be intrigued by the absurd and curious.

I had no ideal they had already started on the 2012 dream home, and from the construction pics i can tell by my opinion this is gonna be the best house so far. it aint even done yet and i want to win it. i love the big ole ranch styles and i believe its the one i would feel comfotable in. even if i cant afford to keep it, id take the money and have one built here on my own property. i really really cant wait to see the finished pictures and tours. i will be obcessing on this one just like i was on the new mexico home. im having trouble with the green home page finding stuff. have they got a date set on the winner announcement. is it gonna be on tv? did they have to change up their plans because of what happened last time? well hope every one has blessed day. catch yall later!!!

becky on June 14, 2011 at 2:26 pm
    • Beckky, take a deep breath and just calm down a little. The entering phase was over a
long time ago. Today (6/15) the winners name was chosen, but we will not know who it
is until around 6/25th. They need days to make sure the winner actually qualifies to win.
There should be any day (maybe tomorrow) a show on TV showing them pick the person
who won but again they will not devulge who it is. The ambush should be around the
15th and if no one blogs about it we will not know until they show it on TV on the 25th.
Good Luck to you. We are all excited.

  37. More Utah trivia……….

Millions of years ago, dinosaurs rumbled across the landscape of what is now Utah. Thousands of remnants of this prehistoric era are carefully preserved and interpreted in sites, museums and quarries across the state, awaiting your discovery.

    Dinosaur National Monument
The Quarry at Dinosaur National Monument is closed until further notice while repairs are made on the building structure. The quarry is the only place in the monument where the public can easily see dinosaur fossils embedded in rock

  39. Okay, this mission may fall on beehivestate to take on, if she so chooses. I'm curious about that open cement-formed area up against the back and side of the home. Is this going to be a swimming pool in summer and ice-skating rink in winter? The Dream Home winner's personal trout-fishing pond? Or? Any idea?

DBCoop on June 14, 2011 at 6:26 pm
    • I've seen it and I think it is an outdoor deck off the living area because of the French doors. Midway already has an ice skating rink for winter and we have the hot pot crater at The Homestead for a nice dip on a hot summer afternoon… or go wade in the river. Thats what I think about that… until further notice, at which time I may very well stand corrected.

beehivestate on June 14, 2011 at 10:12 pm
    • Oh, what I wouldn't give for my own skating rink! FABULOUS idea! <3

      Debra G. on June 14, 2011 at 10:18 pm
      • I think the skating pond will be on Lot 5, along with the doggie dream house. Debra, you can skate at the Midway rink for about $2 and go next door to the Fillerup Coffee Station for a hot cocoa. Then go across the street for a look at Robert Duncan's wonderful studio gallery.

If it's the first weekend in December, we even have a Swiss Christmas celebration in the town hall. Or go over to Park City's Kimball Junction for the ski swap in the field house. You might just find a great pair of used skates for about five bucks!

beehivestate on June 14, 2011 at 10:34 pm
      • In Vermont lots of people make skating rinks for their kids to play hockey on, right in their yards!. Obviously on a pond or lake is great, but you can even flood a meadow or build a frame out of snow and ice it in!

        Topazmoon11 on June 14, 2011 at 11:43 pm
        • When my family lived in NJ, my dad built a rink that we flooded every winter. Oh, how I miss outdoor skating. In Oregon none of the lakes or ponds freeze over and no one understands when I talk about missing outdoor skating in the winter. They think I'm crazy!

          Debra G. on June 14, 2011 at 11:49 pm
    • I was wondering what that open cement pit area was too. It can't be a pool, because you'd fall right in.
Why would they make it open under a deck? If part of it was a hot tub, now that would be nice. If beehive can't find out, maybe tivo_girl can.

MsTrishFl on June 14, 2011 at 11:32 pm
      • I believe it is the foundation for the deck. I've been watching and nothing has changed with it yet.

beehivestate on June 14, 2011 at 11:42 pm

MsTrishFl on June 14, 2011 at 11:45 pm

beehivestate on June 15, 2011 at 10:08 am
          • Then maybe the round thing is a huge fireplace for the hot tub? Similar to what they did in Vermont. What do you think? Has is changed any since the last construction pictures?

irishsprite on June 15, 2011 at 1:57 pm
          • Oooh… Maybe outdoor kitchen/hot tub/fireplace or pit area…….

AWW on June 15, 2011 at 6:52 pm
          • That would be very, very nice.

            Mary,
If we can't have a pool, then at least give us hot tube!!!!! Please!!!!!

MsTrishFl on June 16, 2011 at 5:16 am
        • But it's a hole. It's not a flat slab. That what's throwing me off.

MsTrishFl on June 16, 2011 at 5:08 am
          • If they are putting in a sunken hot tub they would need a hole for it. That makes sense.

What I can't figure out is the rest of the dug out concrete area. Why would they need to dig along side the house for the deck? Any DIYers out there that can shed any light on this?

irishsprite on June 16, 2011 at 12:54 pm
    • Any deck they place along side the home will need to be above ground due to snow in winter and possible flooding in spring and summer. It may also be a partial wrap around due to it being on two sides of the home.

Namuha on June 16, 2011 at 1:21 pm
      • Thank you for explaining it. They can't build a deck right on the ground d/t the winter conditions.

  40. Here's a review of Linda Woodrum's master suite bed furniture from the past 5 Dream Homes:

2007 — Winter Park, CO, with its timber-styled room — set off by a creamy white 4-poster bed and bleached cotton curtain panels for the headboard.

2008 — Islamorada, FL, a casual tropical island paradise — furnished with a New Country antique white wood Ethan Allen Robyn bed and cool blue color scheme.

2009 — Sonoma, CA's wine-country estate — a delicious white ceiling to floor canopied 4 poster bed contrasted with a vibrant green wall color and white furnishings.

2010 — Sandia Park, NM — picked up on the drama of those magnificent mountain views and southwest flavor with a leather upholstered headboard and nailhead trim set against a sage green focal wall.

2011 — Stowe, VT's mountain lodge sported a black 4 poster bed and masculine fabric-curtained headboard against a stirring cranberry backdrop.

Let's see, if I've added it all up correctly, that makes three bed sets in white, one in deep brown leather, and one in black.

Who wants to guess what's next on the master bedroom agenda? Will Linda Woodrum go for the rustic log style furnishings that Deerspring has mentioned? More contemporary, yet still with natural wood tones, or luxe it up with an elegant high-style padded fabric headboard? What outdoor colors will drive her selection, summer sky blue, dark gray-blue reflecting the waters of the Provo River, and winter whites? Or will rich, natural interior wood tones dominate and direct her choices, with pops of seasonal color to please the eye throughout the year?

And the winner is? Where is that envelope with the winning furnishing and color choices? It must be on Mary's desk somewhere — if not now, then just around the corner….

DBCoop on June 14, 2011 at 8:14 pm
    • I love natural wood , earth tones and shades of green. I really hope they won't paint those beautiful wood beams in the great room. Linda definitely has a preference for modern abstract art but it would be nice to have some landscapes, textiles, pottery and blown glass. I have no idea what Linda will pick for furnishings maybe they will give us some hints about what her inspiration for the decor is this year.

Greens- like the Summer mountain range. Creams- like the fluffy oat grass. Brown/grays- like the earth. I'm not sure about the furniture though. That's my decorating idea. ^_^

I lean toward neutrals mixed with the all shades of blues, greens, purples, browns & grays. I also, like using rich dark reds. I'm not really into yellows & oranges that much. I tend to get tired of them quickly. Don't get me wrong, I do like to see a room that jumps out at you, I just don't want it to beat me up.
I like overstuffed kind of fluffy feeling furniture, but I also seem enjoy well tailored lines too.
Drean Home has great taste inside & out. The Tyler, Texas home is just my perfect Dream Home. Rumor has it that this home is going to top the Texas home easily. We probably won't be able to afford to keep it due to taxes.
Do you have a favorite home or style by Dream Home?

MsTrishFl on June 16, 2011 at 5:05 am

          • One of my past favorites was the Sonoma, CA Dream Home of 2009 — for many reasons. One of them being that is home turf to me from years ago, and I still have family in the wine country. I don't know if I would have moved back to the area had I won the Dream Home, since I love Southern CA weather, but the Napa/Sonoma Valleys are so beautiful, and the weather is more often than not fairly pleasant, with four seasons and a mild winter.

When I make my next N. CA trip though, coming up before long, I'll detour over to Park City and check things out. Who knows, I may fall in love with the area and the Dream Home there. That, of course, is the easy part. The difficult part is actually winning the home!

DBCoop on June 16, 2011 at 8:14 pm
    • I didn't realize how often Linda used white bedroom furniture. I'm really hoping for blues and greens, on the light to medium side, with either winter white or maybe a darker natural wood. For some reason I'm stuck on blue and green right now. Although I do like the idea of a dark gray-blue with winter white.

I would like it if the whole house had lots of natural medium to darker toned woods paired with a neutral palette and pops of blues and greens so the views out all those windows provide the real color. Why compete with Mother Nature?

Obviously, I'm not an interior decorator…

irishsprite on June 15, 2011 at 1:33 pm
    • Well, here it goes, being that this is a ranch-style home, perhaps custom made wrought iron bed frame. and earth tone colors. Lots of handmade blankets, quilted, and woven wool Indian-style. The lamps could be the tin type, with the design hand tooled, or the old fashioned hurricane lamps. One of those chandeliers made out of horns, and last, but not least, an antique saddle in the corner of the room slung over an antique wooden chair.
      Can you say yeehaw?

AnneEliseSouth on June 15, 2011 at 1:45 pm
      • That is very much to my liking. I have a wrought iron bed frame, quilts, metal lamps, and my living room furniture is leather with nail-head trim. I also have a wicker rocker in the bedroom, in fact, it's Ethan Allen! On my wish list is a Pendleton blanket.

After looking back at all the art I've done over the quarter I realized that I had chosen to use red, orange. yellow and blues for most of my paintings as well as other art I've done in the last few months. I didn't know where my obsession was coming from until clicked on the blog tonight. Thanks HGTV for influencing my color choices. I've mentioned repeatedly the obsession I'm having with gold/yellow. I need color therapy, so I can reintegrate some other colors into my life. I'm thinking green, purple, browns and pink are sadly missing.from my color scheme. Color therapy please!!:S

Cami on June 15, 2011 at 3:34 am
    • Cami, I'm an artist, too, and I loved the colors Linda used in the Stowe house. They remind me so much of Utah. It will be a challenge for her to breathe fresh life into that palate, it was already about perfect! When I need a burst of inspiration, I go to the local nursery or greenhouse and study the plants. This time of year is great for that kind of color therapy. You are in Washington, if you're near Ballard go to Swansons and if you are closer to Puyallup, go to the greenhouse places out in the countryside.

    • The Oregon Coast-Haystack Rock near Cannon Beach-is a fovorite vacation spot for my family so I identified it immediately in the slide show! So many pieces in the Robert Duncan collection evoke special memories of my children over the years. His artwork is truly amazing!

  49. My Dear HGTV blog Family, seems like I'm the herald of bad news; last night my 27 year old nephew (my Sisters son) killed himself. He was despondent over relationship & alcohol problems and hung himself from a tree in his backyard. My poor Sister found him, cut him down & started CPR, but it was too late. Please be sure to let all your loved ones know that no problem cannot be overcome. God Bless All of You, I feel the love on here & really need it now.

  50. Thanks so much LAdy, you all are real to me also; I envision what everyone looks like & most are warm & sweet people. I am sorry for your loss, it always seems so much worse when a young person dies, they haven't even tasted life yet. Such a sad situation when a person feels that life is no longer worth living.
