A Tidbit to Tide You Over

Happy Monday!

Good things come to those who wait, or so the saying goes. We are working on a slideshow that will highlight the final, approved floor plan and rendering. I should be able to post that photo feature within the next week or so.

Here’s an interesting fact about the home design that should intrigue you. Architect Corey Solum says that the home will be constructed to mimic the look of an old, original farmhouse that has been expanded out over the years. Expect to see a central, stone-faced structure and off-shoots clad in different materials.

  1. A great sprawling farm style home sounds wonderful to me. Sounds like a very large family could be very happy there. Keeping my fingers crossed. lol. That may get uncomfortable lol. Maybe I will just keep wishing lol.

  2. i think she does a great job. i feel that if you win you can always change it

mraction on June 22, 2011 at 5:31 pm
    • Your right you can change later, but would it not be easier it you could do it in the first place. That what you don't have to find a new home for the pieces you don't want.

  3. I hope they bring back the kids' rooms! The bunk bed ski dorm was a neat idea, but I just LOVE seeing what Linda comes up with in the Kids rooms! Linda, my son is totally into trains and cars, btw!! Thank you! :) hehehe

  5. That is the the point of winning a dream home you don't have to do anything everything is done for you by a designer. Even though I like to decorate it is my dream to own a house were I don't have to do a thing because everything is matched perfectly! My opinion anyway!

  7. Soney maxed out his credit card? Again? That dog needs a guardian!

Time to put that credit card on ice, and tell Soney he's going to have to rent out the front yard dog house to his four-legged friends to make those monthly payments!

Although, if Soney's handy enough, he can put in some upgrades and possibly resell them for a nice profit. Being small spaces, I bet Vern Yip could give him some great decorating tips.

You might even be able to get HGTV to feature them on an episode of House Hunters. Or better yet, a design project for the next Design Star series.

By the way, I'll never hear the end of it now from Terri — "well everybody else's dog has one." She's going to pester me until she gets at least one of her very own!

  8. Anything's pawsible! Of coarse, if he did win the Green Home, I bet he woodn't let the cap out of the bat by leeking any details befour Mary makes the awe-ficial announcemint. ;)

    Your friend,
    Terri the terrific Terrier

DBCoop on June 23, 2011 at 12:12 pm
    • Coop surely wouldn't, but if Terri is anything like Maggie, all bets are off when treats are offered. Like Cookie Monster says, " I do ANYTHING for cookie".

  9. "One man's trash is another man's treasure." If you saw the price tag on the artwork, you might reconsider actually throwing it away.
I, for one would not complain about anything included in the home, if I won. I'd simply change what I didn't like, all the while remaining grateful for the wonderful gift of it all.

AnneEliseSouth on June 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm
    • Yes you are right one man's trash is another man's treasure, But that dose not make it art to me.
For my self I like something that look like a home or mount or a lake with a boat on the lake and someone fishing or a eagle flying in the sky this is art not someone putting paint down in all colors and looking like some one had a can fall down on it

  11. 2012 Dream Home location: As a former ski instructor, senior member of the National Ski Patrol and a fly fisherman, I am hard pressed to think of a better location. I have traveled for both business and play in this area numerous times and it IS spectacular.

  12. Well Coop, one BIG problem, or rather potential problem. Miss Maggie is not exactly svelte, and her pedigree is questionable. Perhaps for Doggie personalities this isn't an issue. Although she has slimmed down a tad, her love for snacks does get the best of her. Maybe the Food Network would be more in her league.
Although she is quite photogenic, shooting around her ample proportions may not leave much room in the photo for the Doggie Home Interior.
Come to think of it, Chewie is not exactly slim, and we all love him on "The Antonio Treatment".
Maybe I need to think this through further. BTW, HGTV, Maggie will work for food! Call us.

Congratulations. Have there been any other weddings from any HGTV blog?

SandyLA on June 23, 2011 at 3:20 pm
    • I really don't know of any other bloggers' weddings.
      Thank you for your wishes!

  15. Did you ever pay a dime for the Sat. double features ? We did, but it was only in the early
    afternoon!

SandyLA on June 23, 2011 at 3:25 pm
    • Yes Sandy we did also, it was the Kiddie Matinee Special, at the local movie house on Main street, before the Malls came to town. I remember the theater was old, and very fancy with, of course, a balcony section.

  17. I can't wait to enter this contest. I currently work at the UVU Wasatch Campus, just 10 minutes away, and I can't quite afford a home, so I commute and am renting right now. I hope we win! This will be an amazing house and congrats to whomever wins!

goatsworth on June 23, 2011 at 3:38 pm
  18. I was just up there last week and went for a buggy ride up to cascade springs which is just miles from the house where we saw 4 Shiras Moose! It was awesome, but a little scary since we were on foot and couldn't get back to the buggy until they moved. But such a beautiful area! I wanted to drive past the house but my husband got distracted with a business call on the way out and just headed for home :( Next time though! The town is small enough that you can drive a street legal side by side down "i think" any street in Midway! From your doorstep you can reach beautiful mountain trails in a matter of minutes! Here's a quick video we took while there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS550CTq8Ms

  21. Mary:
The original farmhouse photo appears very similar to those in Heritage Village. My husband and I had a tour while in Utah earlier this year. We learned a lot about the trail, the history and life style there. I am glad to see this architectural style used for the 2012 Utah home as I believe it ties directly back to the style of the earlier homes.
What an amazing state…the education system, public transportation system, community values- even the -no more homeless pets- campaign across the state. Not to mention how beautiful the state capitol is along with the adjacent park. Thank you.

    amazing_utah on June 23, 2011 at 9:29 pm
  22. Just so you know, SandyLA is NOT the winner of the Green Home. :S
Some people started that rumor not true:(

SandyLA on June 23, 2011 at 10:34 pm
  23. Might we get another tidbit, Mary, to tide us over the weekend? Like say, something as simple as floor plans?

DBCoop on June 24, 2011 at 2:32 am
    • Well, Coop–in case I get edited out of a D-I-Y blog ; check out CBW's blog–she just happened to get an inside peek of you know where —

LLColeman on June 24, 2011 at 5:07 am
    • Coop, your post reminded me of the scene in "Oliver Twist", where the little boy is holding his empty bowl up, and says "please, sir may I have more?"
Please Mary, may we have more information?

AnneEliseSouth on June 24, 2011 at 1:56 pm
      • We have to be careful of what we ask for, AnneEliseSouth. When the under-nourished Oliver asked, "please, sir may I have more?" a great commotion ensued. Of course, that DID help to move the story forward, and put Oliver in something of a better situation. Maybe it's worth the risk after all…. ^_^

DBCoop on June 24, 2011 at 6:00 pm
        • Hey Coop!!! So good to "see" you again! People all over these blogs have been asking about you! How are you? How you been? Where ya been? Seen Jamie lately? B) Thought I'd sneak in that last question :D

redbarnartist on June 24, 2011 at 8:59 pm
          • Thanks for the welcome back, redbarnartist, though I've been around the blogs — just keeping a low profile, particularly in the GH blog when at this point in the giveaway process things tend to get a little wild and wooly!

As far as Jamie Durie, haven't seen him myself (other than in the HGTV video I posted a few days ago), but it seems there are claims in the GH blog of knowledge/suspicions/hopes/illusions (you name it) as to his whereabouts. The man is definitely in great demand.

Sometimes it's nice to be a simple blogger. No paparazzi following your every move! No wild rumors. Just lots of fun sharing a little time out of your day with interesting folks from all around the country, including fellow dreamers down in Puerto Rico.

DBCoop on June 25, 2011 at 12:44 am
  24. I hope when the new Dream home is decorated that the bedrooms are not theme oriented. Some of us have older kids living at home and the children's rooms would be too young for them. I know that the winner can change them but it seems a shame because they are so cute. If just the bed covers etc are kid themed then someone could come in and just replace that and everything would be appropriate for someone older or guests. Thanks for listening to our opinions HGTV!

  25. Still waiting for more "tidbits" lol. Like floor plans, please.

funfordot on June 24, 2011 at 11:01 am
  26. I've been out of town but on the way home yesterday we drove by "our" house and I notice there is a new covered porch on the NE corner (back behind the garage). As you face the front of the house, you can't see it but if you walk around the garage, there it is. Sounds like Ms. Tivo will get pictures for you this weekend with her big camera. River Road is still a mess but the paving is done from I-40 to the DH so come in from that side, not from the Midway side.

I didn't win the Green Home (yet) either!

  27. Mary has posted some tidbits of information over on the UO blog:

  31. And would you agree Timpanogos is over used here? I ended up at Timpanogos High School when I was supposed to be at Timpview High School! :)

    • Yes, we even have "Scrappy's Timp Freeze" for the ice cream place.

  33. Couldn't get your Timpanogos Cave weblink to load, beehivestate, so I'm just attaching the following: http://www.nps.gov/tica/index.htm

Takes a bit of hiking to get to the cave entrance, but looks like it would be well worth the trek.

DBCoop on June 25, 2011 at 12:28 am
    • Thanks. It's a very steep hike to the cave and, for awhile last year, the trail was closed because they had two different incidents with fatalities d/t falls That link had some great pictures. I tried to post it again but it would not copy.

beehivestate on June 25, 2011 at 9:11 am
  34. Before I forget, Terri brought some amusing inspiration to my attention today, in the form of a bumper sticker on a car in the PetSmart parking lot. I'm sure that her fellow canines (just to name a few) like Maggie, Soney, Lucy and many other wonderful friends would agree that it makes for a perfect mantra for pets, their owners, and HGTV dreamers everywhere. And, that modest little sticker simply said: More Wag! Less Bark!

    I couldn't agree more.

DBCoop on June 25, 2011 at 12:54 am
  35. I am hoping that they have had the finalized plan for a while and are just now getting it put up on the blog. I find it hard to believe that they have "dried in" the house and are just now finalizing a plan. I am a builder's wife and know that working without a finalized plan is one of a contractor's worst nightmare.!!

DebiKaye on June 25, 2011 at 1:42 am
    • I'm thinking you're right that they've had the floorplans for months, but we just haven't seen them yet!

    Wyo_Girl on June 25, 2011 at 10:39 am
  38. Wow there is not a lot of activity here everyone is on GH blogg waiting and waiting and waiting. I don't blame them our ears are going to grow bigger by the time we hear something lol!

albbora on June 25, 2011 at 11:22 am
  39. The floor plans are posted and the only question I have right now is why does the second floor not connect? One side of the upstairs has a bedroom and bath then the rest of the upstairs doesn't connect together. You have to go BACK downstairs to the main floor and find the other staircase to go back up stairs to the other part of the house. Why doesn't the house connect?

BrendainKs on June 25, 2011 at 4:02 pm
    • I think it is because they want the house to feel like it is an old farm house that had additions built to it over time. Plus this way you get more privacy for the master suite. OMG I WANT THIS HOUSE!

DecoratingFan on June 27, 2011 at 1:04 am

  42. does anyone know when the entries for the 2012 dream home contest begins? when or where will that be posted? as for the 2011 stapleton green home, it was another person in an expensive area who had a house, will anyone who lives in an apartment or townhouse complex win ever?
