  1. I wonder what will be in the other lot beside our house? Does anyone have any ideas?

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 2:26 pm
    • … your own mini golf course?!…just dreaming to have one if I'll be the lucky winner of the DH2012

      rexi1220 on July 10, 2011 at 2:51 pm
      • I could live with that!!!

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 4:11 pm
    • I think it will be a Monitor-style barn with an art studio upstairs for quilting and a workshop downstairs for woodworking. View to the river, doggie dream house in miniature, and possibly a space for a vegetable garden. In my dreams.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 9:09 am
      • That would be good. But add extra car space as well. ooo wait are supplemental buildings allowed in the covenants?

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 2:23 pm
    • Just space this home is mostly on lot 5 but spills over to lot 6.

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 2:22 pm
    • I like the idea of a two-story studio. I'd use the top floor when I'm doing my bead and wire work. Imagine how that view would inspire any artist's work!! Maybe I'd be so inspired that I would start lampworking and make my own beads. The bottom floor could be used for a kiln, jigsaw and other equipment. I just love to dream about "our" house and imagine what it would be like to live there!! Is that crazy?

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 3:52 pm
      • Okay, if I run into Jack I'll tell him to accommodate us artists.

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 11:05 am
        • YAY!!!!! I love to paint! My daughter is taking Art and Photography classes in college so that would be a GREAT addition!! :)

BrendainKs on July 12, 2011 at 11:44 am
          • Okay, you're in!

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 12:31 pm
    • i think they should not build anything there. but the house should come with two ATV's to drive around the property. my really close friend as a farm with a lot of property, so he had a small party there. my brother brought a whole bunch of ATV's. so we drove around with them. it was really fun.

fdteam on July 11, 2011 at 5:34 pm
      • Like that idea but there is a place in Heber where you can rent ATV's. It's very popular in Utah,, then you would not need the extra garage space … sorry I'm having so much trouble with the computer today

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 11:08 am
    • maybe some kayaks would be nice too. you know for the river.

fdteam on July 11, 2011 at 5:39 pm
      • Kayaks would be awesome, take them out on either of the two reservoirs. And what about a couple of those new SUP (stand up paddle) boards? That would really be quite cool!

    • The cupcakes look delicious!! Is there one of these shops in Midway?

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 5:49 pm
      • Here is the website for the Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery. Would you believe it's headquarters are in American Fork, Utah. Don't know if there is one in Midway but Beehivestate would be able to answer that question. http://thesweettoothfairy.com/

alicesoneysmom on July 10, 2011 at 6:14 pm
        • Thanks for the link! All of the cupcakes look AMAZING!!

I could do that!! I LOVE to bake and cook! No one has died from my cooking, so that's a good thing! :p

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 6:36 pm
        • I may have to mozie (?) on down there one day when I win the house. :) ha ha.

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 6:38 pm
  4. This is where Soney and I were yesterday at a little park named Lynn Street Park on Lake Union. There are many floating homes right next to the park so we got to talk to one of the owners. She said she loves to live in her home and can go kayaking out her front door. We asked her if her floors get cold in the winter and she said she has carpet except in the bathroom and that floor does get a little cold. She pointed out Sleepless in Seattle's floating home. We had a great day and the weather was warm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcQQbBCmEn4&fe

    • Maybe THAT will be the next Dream Home location?

BrendainKs on July 10, 2011 at 9:39 pm
  6. BrendainKs, i think you asked about the round area on the street. That is a round-about and it will be landscaped by the developer, typically. It sits right at the "intersection" in front of and between lots 6 and 7. These are very common in Midway neighborhoods and thoroughfares, also in Park City.

beehivestate on July 10, 2011 at 10:53 pm
    • Round-abouts are so much fun to drive around! I vacationed in MA one year and they have them everywhere – even out in the countryside. The first couple were a little daunting especially since I was in a new city and was trying to follow directions. But after that I loved them! I laughed every time I went around one!!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 3:28 pm
      • We have a round-about right at the entrance to our development and when it was first built, people made mistakes and there were one or two accidents. Some people cut left instead of right, to save time. Our round-about has a bell tower and a sign that says Midway Mountain Village. It was built by the Watts Group, our builder, as a concession to the city of Midway. It's nice because I can always tell people I live at the River Road round-about.

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 12:29 pm
    • Thank you!! I was wondering what that was for. What do you think they will do with it? Flowers? Or a Flag??? Or a flag with flowers all around it?? Colorful ones for in the Spring, Summer, and early Autumn. :)

BrendainKs on July 11, 2011 at 9:27 pm
      • I'm sure it will be beaUTiful and that it will be done before our house is photographed, as it is almost right in front. A flag would be good. I like that idea!

  7. Hi everyone, This morning I have huge news–to me, anyway–and I must share. Yesterday my little grandson Lars took his first steps here in Telluride!!!! He is 11 months + 5 days old. It is such a sight to behold, a baby walking for the first time. My oh my! And once he "got it," all he wanted to do all day was practice over and over… I slept good last night lol. Okay, that's that.

I didn't get to watch Alice's vid's on the bakeries because this computer is sort of "wonky" but I was out walking yesterday and I spied across the street a sandwich board advertising truffles, ice cream, soda, and cookies … when I walked closer, ta da! It was a pot shop, a bakery of a different sort, I guess. Ah the discoveries.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 8:55 am
    • Way to go Lars!!! Just one of many milestones for Lars and he's lucky to have such a great Grandma.

smokesmom on July 11, 2011 at 10:57 am
    • I do so hope you got those first steps on video! I did for my youngest- but his first steps scared him and he didn't walk again for 4 months!

My doctor said that those type of bakery goods might be good for me- but I don't live in one of those states that allow those prescriptions!

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 2:32 pm
      • Yes we did, my daughter-in-law has one of those fancy smart phones that take video so we could send them to his other g'ma in Vermont. Once back in the day before it was legal to sell for medicinal purposes, there were only TWO people in the whole area who could claim "medical necessity." Now there are enough with medical cards to need FIVE dispensaries in this little town.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 5:30 pm
    • Lars is walking – how exciting! There's something so magical about a baby's first steps. I remember my son's like they were yesterday and he's 18. I'm so happy for you and glad you were there to see it!!! I can just picture you chasing after him all day – what a wonderful, but exhausting, way to spend the day. I bet you fell asleep with a grin on your face. Tell little Lars that Auntie Irish said "way to go big boy!"

As to the "bakery" you found…did you sample any of their goodies? LOL!!!!!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 3:10 pm
      • Good idea, I should ask for samples. I'll tell them I'm all tuckered out from chasing the baby all day and my knees ache.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 5:33 pm
        • Perfect! That excuse should get you all the samples you want!!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 5:46 pm
    • Congratulations to Lars at the start of his big life journey…. I am so glad that you were there to see it. Isn't it exciting ? My grandson walked at 11 months, and so did my granddaughter. Now I cannot keep up with them, LOL.

  9. I watched a couple of the Blog Cabin 2010 shows this weekend and it seems like the outside of this Dream Home complements that home. The front porch especially so.

Sorry about typos today- having reall finger dexterity issues!

  10. Shame, shame on me. Go away from the blog a few days and gee=whiz, Janzee back on line, pot
available in all types of food and drink, and excuse me, even potty talk. Apparently this blog wants to
go down the pipe! Today the weather is cooler, in the 80's without humidity!! Good summer day and
on the Blog. Happy day everyone!!! ;)

SandyLA on July 11, 2011 at 2:41 pm
    • Well, no we don't want to go down the pipe, we want to get a stand up paddle board and go down the river!

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 8:20 pm
      • That is fine, but I was talking about the "Bee-day"! ^_^

SandyLA on July 12, 2011 at 11:02 pm
        • Yeah, I get it!! Never would I especially want one in my house.

  11. Hey beehivestate have you seen or heard about Jack and Linda shopping in the area? Any local shopkeepers willing to slip a hint as to their purchases? Are there any furniture crafters close? If we remember Ethan Allen that made the furniture for the 2011 DH was in Vermont. I found these folks: http://www.rusticfurnituremakers.com/utah.htm

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 2:45 pm
    • That's a great question, Nebraska! You would think someone would let it slip that Jack and Linda were in the area shopping.

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 3:12 pm
      • I know what they look like and if I see them, I'll let you all know what they are buyng.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 5:40 pm
        • Thanks, beehive! I don't know what we would do without you!!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 5:55 pm
          • Yeah, can't you just see me spot Linda and run up to her for a picture?!

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 11:02 am
          • Yes, I can definitely picture you doing that…LOL!!! Then you bombarding her with questions about her shopping for our house!!

irishsprite on July 12, 2011 at 4:04 pm
          • I'm going to ask her to pretty please use a barn door or barn wood, like she did in the Stowe house. I also want adirondack chairs for the deck and in Salt Lake City there is a place called "Leisure Living" that has all kinds of outdoor furniture made from recycled plastic and it is beaUTiful… and not only that, you can leave it sit outdoors year-round then just hose it off in the spring and it looks brand new. I have the white rocking chairs for my front porch.

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 4:26 pm
          • And furthermore, if I should see Jack, I'm going to tell him to please mention Midway. I know he wants to cash in on the Park City reputation but the house is in a gorgeous little mountain town and that should definitely be mentioned.

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 4:28 pm
          • I like all your decorating ideas for Linda. I hope you run into her soon!

I agree about highlighting Midway. I think that has more appeal than Park City. I guess from all you've told us about Midway, it just seems the perfect place to live and Jack should advertise that fact. He can mention that Park City is nearby but it's really Midway that's the star location!

irishsprite on July 12, 2011 at 4:54 pm
          • I like the way you think. You can definitely come sit on my porch to watch the 4th of July fireworks next year. It starts at 10 pm

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 8:21 pm
          • Wow, thanks! I can't wait…

irishsprite on July 13, 2011 at 11:35 am
    • No doubt she will pick up pieces that are accents and decorative, but her main furnishings always come from big HGTV sponsor Ethan Allen. I doubt they could afford to completely furnish a DH without Ethan Allen sponsorship.

  12. Mary on the main page you said to ask questions. Mine first is: how many square feet is the entire master suite- bath, bed, porch, and sitting rooms? I'm thinking it is bigger than the Urban Oasis 2011.

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 3:26 pm
    • Yes because if the whole house is 4,000 sq. ft., the upstairs would be a bit less than half that much and the master suite is easily 2/3 of the upstairs. If it were mine, upstairs is where I would have my bookshelves.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 5:42 pm
      • In the sitting room would be the perfect place. Along with a desk, comfy lounging/reading area, and a coffee bar! You could hibernate upstairs all day during one of those messy snow storms you mentioned.

irishsprite on July 12, 2011 at 12:08 am
  13. I made an observation in a reply to Wyo Girl and think I should repeat it. —- I think the master suite (if we had dimensions) in the 2012 Dream Home is bigger than the entire Urban Oasis!

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 3:39 pm
    • I agree, and I'm thinking that it is MUCH bigger than the UO! I think it would be hard for me to get used to living in such a small space, but Chicago would be cool.

      Wyo_Girl on July 11, 2011 at 4:08 pm
      • I'm thinking I could trade the UO condo for a larger space in another part of Chicago.

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 5:13 pm
      • Wyo, I have gotten the idea that the UO's are intended to be urban crash pads–or in classic reference a 'pied a terre'. As if someone would stay there while in town for shopping, theater going and museum tours, etc.
Nebraska, I think your plan sounds very sensible and do-able.

LLColeman on July 13, 2011 at 1:52 am
  14. My only question is where is the fifth covered porch/deck? I've counted four: 1-front porch, 2-back deck, 3-living/game room porch, and 4-the covered porch near the garage. What am I missing?

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 4:24 pm
    • The covered porch area in the master bedroom is what I figured as #5.

Nebraska on July 11, 2011 at 5:10 pm
      • Thanks!! I didn't think about that one – I bet you're right!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 5:22 pm
        • She's right. It's the gorgeous private deck off the master suite. Imagine sitting out there on a summer's evening and watching the valley fade to dark as the stars come out. The stars here are so big and bright. Sometimes I get up in the wee hours and go outdoors to look.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 5:38 pm
          • How could I have forgotten about the private deck off the master suite? Can't wait to see those stars!!

irishsprite on July 11, 2011 at 5:50 pm
  15. Hey Nebraska, you asked about whether the CCR's allow supplemental buildings. I noticed that the house on lot 10, which is bigger than "our" dream house, has a supplemental building, which is like a large garage/shed building. So it must be okay to have an out building as long as the style is conforming.

beehivestate on July 11, 2011 at 6:43 pm
    • Then that clears the way for the studio/workshop! Hooray!!

irishsprite on July 12, 2011 at 12:02 am
      • Don't you wish?! That would be so over-the top. I'm keeping my eye on the property in case I see signs of a foundation on that side.

    • November.

  18. Thank you Mary. If i had one question, it would have to be what precations are being taken during construction to protect the home from possible flooding in the future from being so close to the river? I would also like to know exactly how close to the back of the house is the river?, is it on the homes property? and if not will the homeowner have free accesss to it?

carolinacin on July 12, 2011 at 3:11 am
    • If you google earth, you can see how far from the back fence line to the river. It's maybe 60 yards. Yes, the homeowner will have river access. The river is on public property so other will have access but they cannot walk across the homeowner's land to get to the river. The designated access points are elsewhere. The middle Provo has not flooded in recent memory and there is a dam above and below, with a large reservoir for recreation, so the water is well-controlled. Right now we have had lots of snowmelt and the river is only a little higher than usual.

  23. Is it now" code" to install a fire sprinkler system in new home construction? I am not familiar with the environment out there in Utah, but I am familiar with those horrible forest fires out west. (Arizona, NM etc) Are there special features of this home which will decrease the chances that it would burn to the ground in a fire? I suspect that there isn't city water out that far?? So ….pumper trucks would have to put a hose in the river and provide water to put out any potential fire? Just curious.

hokiemom on July 12, 2011 at 2:47 pm
    • I don't know about code for fire sprinkler systems, we have a fairly new house (4 years) and none of the homes in our area has sprinkler system. I'm pretty sure there is adequate fire protection but I will ask around. I've never heard of sprinkler system for residential. Midway City has a fire dept. and I'm sure they would answer the call, Heber City also, and these are not too far away. The house isn't exactly "out in the sticks," as my mom would say.

beehivestate on July 12, 2011 at 4:21 pm
      • beehivestate, yep in our neck of the woods new homes=residential, condos, apartments all are now required to have sprinkler systems along with hard wired CO and fire detectors. I don't want to even think of how one would retrofit these older homes if /when that might become a new code standard.

I don't know how often wild fires are an issue in that part of Utah??? Just wanted to know???

hokiemom on July 12, 2011 at 5:58 pm
        • We have the CO and smoke detectors. I could very well be wrong about the sprinkler thing. It wouldn't be the first time, just ask my husband!

  25. Does anyone know– what type of heat and AC our house will use? Electric, Gas, or Propane? Does the house use city water? Just questions I wanted to ask. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. :)

BrendainKs on July 12, 2011 at 8:39 pm
    • Most likely it will be gas for cooking and for the bbq and the gas log fireplaces. We use electric for our washer/dryer and heating. Natural gas is very inexpensive in Utah. Did you notice in the Stowe home they had those neat Rannai tankless water heathers? I bet they do that again. I am also very interested to see what they choose for window treatments. I notice the back deck has a big overhang, also the living room, so that will help with the cooling. Everybody out here has air conditioning unless it is an older home.

      • Yes, I noticed the Rannai tankless water heater!! I think that would be the way to go. That is the most efficient and doesn't waste energy in heating when you don't need it and only when you do! :)

Do you think there will be window treatments because of the beaUTiful views? Maybe tinted windows for the bright sunlight streaming in the windows, but not so dark that it doesn't let sun in the house.

I like how we can dream here, voice our thoughts and then wait and see what the end results are going to be!! I love to dream……and I dream BIG! :)

      • Dear Bee, are you on here 24/7? Are you getting a stipend? We'll have to fix you up somehow.

SandyLA on July 12, 2011 at 10:58 pm
        • That is funny! Yes, I'm on here a lot, aren't I? No, they's not $$$ me!

      • I bet because of the size and configuration of the home its TWO tankless water heaters.

    • Alice and Soney, that was just priceless! The dialogue was so perfect it's hard to believe it was not scripted! xD

CplusE on July 13, 2011 at 11:03 am
      • Hi C&E that was funny. The Bill Cosby show was one of my son's favorite tv shows. He even went so far as to cut off the sleeves of one of his expensive shirts because Bill Cosby's tv son did the same thing to his shirt. I am still trying to find a video clip of that show. Your little Daisy is just the cutest! Take care and talk to you later.

    • Hysterical! A great way to start a day, or end one, Alice and Soney, with a good laugh.

And by the way, did you know that the town of North, in South Carolina, was founded as a result of a railroad — the South Bound Rail Company, naturally, where passenger trains ran north, through North, on their way to New York City. Or for those who weren't so confused already they didn't know whether they were heading north OR south, you could also travel south from North to Columbia, Savannah, or even Miami.

      Got it??

DBCoop on July 13, 2011 at 12:09 pm
      • To DBCoop we read you loud and clear as mud! From Alice and Soney's camp headquarters.

  27. Alice, that was fun–and do you know who that woman reminds me of ? Gracie Allen, of Burns & Allen…it was like the routines she used to do with George Burns. Also, the "You Bet Your LIfe " re-make reminds me of the original show, with the fantastic Groucho Marx. Soney has very good taste in video clips !

  28. Hello, fellow bloggers, I've been busy packing….moving in with husband's parnets to take care of them.
Still not all the way in, probably couple more weeks. It will be nice to to get back to some kind of routine, Which will of course involve my DH blogging!! :) Boy, it looks like things are moving right along. I sure have missed checking things out on a regular basis. I did find my old fly-rod and some of my fishing gear made sure they are where I can get to them…heehee :D

  29. Oh Mary,……… in case you haven't noticed, "what's new" is getting a tad old. We bloggers have a nose for news, and it's getting itchy from the wait. Just saying, as bloggers tend to say.
We'll be waiting, right here, for the next installment with our itchy nosy noses. Have a little mercy on us.

  30. Did anyone see the latest endeavor (no pun intended) of Bill and Melinda Gates foundation? He wants to re-invent the toilet! Sorry I live in a guy house and it always gets back to potty talk. He wants to develop a disposal system for human waste which could be utilized in 3rd world, arid countries and would not be dependent on water to flush away human excrement. The purpose is to reduce water born disease and improve the human condition. It is time to rethink this issue globally not just in 3rd world countries. Water issues are one of the biggest issues in the US West. Example- The Colorado river is completely used up before it reaches the ocean. So what water saving technologies are going to be installed in this dream home? Timers, flow reducers, low flush toilets (not the ones you have to flush twice) compost- able toilets, fewer bathrooms, "outside spa hot tubs!!!" Or is Water not an issue in Utah?

hokiemom on July 13, 2011 at 10:36 am
    • I think flow reducers on shower heads are already required everywhere for new construction. Showers instead of baths? Is that why there was no tub in the master suite at the Green Home? I'm all for conservation and I recycle whatever i can and am careful with resources, but if I have to stand in the shower twice as long to get clean because the flow is so low, how is that saving water?

In Telluride they just passed an ordinance that the store cannot give you plastic bags for your groceries, and if you want paper they must charge you 10 cents each. Everyone brings their backpacks or green bags. I think it's a good idea. Here they recycle everything… glass, paper, plastic, aluminum. There is much less litter. Speaking of which, very little litter in Midway… most people are very conscientious and there are even a few retired older women who walk the streets every day and pick up any trash. Just because they care.

  33. I have two boys and curious if the bedrooms are going to be gender specific? Also they both love to skateboard – is there a skatepark in Park City? One of them has shown interest in snowboarding, and I'm sure the youngest will do the same.

  38. OMG. I am from Utah and my entire family lives in Heber, UT, but alas I now live in Phoenix, AZ. I am so excited that the Dream Home is here. I will die if I don't win. Park City, Heber, and Midway are some of the states most beautiful locations. Yippie Utah.

  39. Hey, I'm just wondering who is doing the cabinets in the Dream Home? It would be nice to have the same brand that I have in my current home, which I love! They are Fashion Cabinets from West Jordan,Utah.

    • Hi Goannautrain, welcome to the blog and how great that you live in Utah. Have you ever been to Midway or Park City?

  40. I have a special shout out to LLColeman who reminds us to eat fresh fruits and veggies that are in season as much as possible. This brings me to my next question to any of the folks in the Midway area about farmer's markets, or organic coops. Beehive- you got yur ears on? Four weeks ago, I signed up for a summer coop, so that when in Nevada, I could get a basket of veggies almost at my door. Although I haven't been in town, today was the last delivery and I was there to receive it. In the fruit basket there is oakra, eggplant, green apples, basil, green onions, chard, garlic, crazy tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, kholrabi-enough for a small family, and to share with a friend. DBCoop has been talking about corn, perhaps as high as an elephants eye, and I wonder if those organic coops in Midway offer veggies a plenty. Do figs grow out your way?

  42. Enjoying the thought of being part of the final phase of this beautiful dream home. I don't even mind finding employment once I'm there and then prepare for early retirement. It provides all the amenities I want to enjoy and share with others. Lovely!

  43. Never did I leave a comment on any type of site, but I'm truly mesmerized by this project and home. Everything about the pictures, the entries in the blog by Mary bring me back every day to check for new updates and I finally signed up today to add my little comment. Looking forward to more interior pictures and of course the virtual tour!!!
