  1. Can someone please tell me when can I start submitting entries for the Dream Home 2012? I cannot find it anywhere! so frustrating :(

  2. AMAZING!!!! I LOVE IT!!!

  3. Hana2525, usually the Dream Home photos begin coming out in the Fall, and the big reveal, with guest hosts filmed touring the home, airs on Jan. 1st…which begins the contest entries. I remember reading something about possibly beginning a day or 2 earlier-(-but maybe I dreamt that part! )
So going by past history, Jan. 1st, 2012 should be the first day to enter.

    • I read it would be Dec. 30th this year and that the virtual tours would start on Dec. 1st.

  4. OMG…This house is me personified!!! It is everything I would dream in my home… <3 I am in love…The great room reminds me so much of my daughter's grandparents home…they recently passed and the home was sold so to have this home would keep their memories alive~

  6. I must say that I'm grateful not only for HGTV and DIY's partnership with Rebuilding Together along with various other community improvement ventures and charity works, but that winner's in their home giveaways are able to choose the cash value option, or take possession and then resell the home in order to use the profits as they wish, or to build the home of their dreams, including whatever disability enhancements they so desire.

    I'd suggest that it's a win-win proposition all around.

  8. For the last few days Soney and I have been enjoying the beautiful weather here in Seattle. We are trying to do as much gardening as we can before the rain starts which is predicted for this weekend. We were enjoying a break sitting on our DH stoop watching the planes land at Sea-Tac and the planes that take off at Boeing Field. Soney was enjoying a nice cold bowl of water topped off with ice cubes and I had a marionberry frozen yogurt. Anyway, got an idea that I wanted to plant Callla Lilies so we came in to look them up. We found this pretty video and thought we would share. We always enjoy watching how HGTV landscapes all their beautiful homes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqLXLjIiwO0&fe

    • Love the white ones best. I don't know if they will grow here.

beehivestate on September 16, 2011 at 6:35 pm
      • My neighbor up the street have the white ones and they are beautiful. That is why I decided to research them. The stores are selling them in pots now but they are a bit pricey. Spring is the time to plant them in Seattle so I have a little time to research all the information on them.

    • Oh, Alice and Soney, now you have me walking down memory lane — I have always loved the Cat Stevens version of this song:

Such a beautiful voice, and so many great songs — another favorite of mine is "Sad Lisa":

I guess I'm going to have to dig out our old "Tea for the Tillerman" album and continue this nostalgia trip! ^_^

        • Be careful Alice, I planted a few Calla Lillies and they are taking over my planting bed! Now I
am removing they rather than planting anything! :S

SandyLA on September 17, 2011 at 10:45 pm
          • Thank you SandyLA I didn't know that. The iris and daylilies my Mom planted so long ago tend to take over the garden too. Mostly I do container gardening it is easier for me. I have to sit down when I garden so it takes me a long time to accomplish anything and Soney thinks he is helping me by dropping his ball in the flower pot that I am working on. We have fun and I am in no rush. We always say our garden is a work in progress. We are working on making a brick pathway. Rebuilding Together used most of the old bricks my Mom collected through the years to make a planting bed in front of the house but they left a few behind. Soney has to have his baseball field so we haven't decided how that should look. It was dusty yesterday but now it is raining so it gets very muddy in that area. Thanks SandyLA so good to talk to you.

alicesoneysmom on September 18, 2011 at 12:06 am
          • Sounds great! I also sit when I garden and I also have iris and daylilies but they are fairly stable and have not taken over anything.  My cats only play inside – they have an old yellow “tweetybird” that they play with!Nice talking to you too!

SandyLA on September 18, 2011 at 3:30 pm
          • I can just picture them playing with Tweetybird. I bought Soney a Hedgehog named Homer. He has a loud squeak and a soft squeak. When Soney first met Homer he pounced on him and he made a very loud squeak and scared Soney. Now Soney treats Homer with respect. Take care and will talk to you soon. p.s. Love to hear about your garden it sounds so beautiful.

          • Of course any animal is at its cutest when it plays, jumps, runs and gets excited.  The only thing cuter is a grandchild doing the same things.  I have a small back yard and I invested in a real small waterfall that moves back and forth. That is what I like most about my backyard.  I have some flowers growing up each side of the falls. I can sit outside for hours and just watch!

SandyLA on September 18, 2011 at 9:02 pm
          • Hi Alice and Soney! SandyLA's comment about the waterfall in her back yard reminded me of this video:

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOv-2HzNPaA

I'll bet Soney would have a blast with a water feature like this one, just like the dog in the video!

          • Hi C&E Soney would have so much fun what a cute video. He is almost the size of that dog too! Soney runs around the yard like a little nut bouncing his ball all over the place. Wanted to tell you how beautiful your pictures of the GH are. And how you described each picture was so well written. A very professional job. You are giving me the incentive to take more pictures now that I am getting out and about a little bit more. I went on a short trip today with the park deparment to Rattlesnake Lake where the Cedar River Watershed is located. What a beautiful place. Thanks for your beautiful pictures. • I bet your garden is beautiful. I most like gardens that evolve over the years and sort of "take over" and do their own thing.

beehivestate on September 18, 2011 at 7:00 pm
          • Me too. You gave me an idea about what to do with Soney's baseball field. You were talking about grass planted in cement, I am not explaining it right, but you were talking about it awhile back. Well my Counselor at the Seattle Vet Center decided that we should take a break and go to Starbucks. Right in front of Starbucks was the most beautiful cement design with grass planted between the cement. I thought that might help with the mud situation in the wintertime. I don't like to plant just grass. Saw a front yard on the internet with all kinds of flowers and even vegetables and a pretty water fountain. It is so much fun to plan and dream. Thanks for the compliment. Our goal is to make it beautiful. Here is a cute video clip we found about quilting and it reminded us of you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzoL7ddTEnA

alicesoneysmom on September 18, 2011 at 8:20 pm
          • Awesome! I loved it. The phrase “you can quilt that out” refers to when you have a pleat or uneven area in the top, the machine quilter can “quilt that out” for you. “Only perfect quilts are made by God…I don't quilt by hand, I quilt by check!” That's me!!

beehivestate on September 18, 2011 at 10:25 pm
          • Alice and Soney, I forwarded your video about "You Can Quilt It Out" to my friend who does my machine quilting. She lives in Puyallup and she just started chemo yesterday. She said "that's my life!" after she watched the video and that she laughed and laughed. Thanks for finding it and sending it along. Just wanted to let you know you did a lot of good with that gesture.

beehivestate on September 19, 2011 at 8:09 pm
          • Thank you so much Mrs. Bee that really touched my heart. We went through chemo with my Sister many years ago, but she is doing just fine now. Your friend sounds like one strong person. Laughter works it worked for my Sister. She lives on Whidbey Island one of the most beautiful islands in Washington State. Have you been there? There is a beach quite close to her home in Freeland. It is just fun to walk and walk. We pick up shells and sea glass for me to mosaic something. Tell your friend hi for me. We know Puyallup well. Do the Puyallup fair. Take care and will talk to you soon.

  10. Here is what tivo_girl said 15 weeks ago about the upper back bedroom. Sounds like the bunk room: Her pictures are with that post. Maybe that large east-facing window in the bath is the Juliet balcony?

"The staircase just before that room accesses a short hallway that opens into two identical bedrooms with a bath between (could be jack-and-jill?). Large picture windows in each face north and east in the north bedroom, and south and east in the south bedroom. There is also a large east-facing window in the bath. This area is only accessible via that back staircase. "

Here is her article w/pictures. Note photo 12 where she refers to the TWO back bedrooms separate from the MBR on the second floor. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home2/51951995-183/d

beehivestate on September 16, 2011 at 10:13 pm
    • I still maintain that the floor plans match what is being built. If you look at slide 6 of 10 in the "Beautiful Bedrooms" group of pictures it is a picture that looks like to was taken from exactly the spot shown on the second floor plan as "2" which is a "Bath" looking towards the 1 on the plan, which is the bedroom (Bunkroom) . A key to the accuracy is the door frame leading into the room where the picture was taken (Bath) and no door frame on the wall beyond going into the bedroom (where the french doors are) This is consistent with the floor plans, but not the "sketch" . Also note that the door into the same bedroom in the dual bunk room "sketch" would position the door further to the right in that wall, right up against the wall to the extreme right of the picture leading to the stair. Also visible in the framing slide is the small closet and the shower, both of which will receive a window. Not seen in the picture to the left of the picture would be the toilet which will have a window to the North. All according to the published plans. I just don't see the dual bunk rooms. I have seen doors and windows change throughout the construction, but this would be a major change.

Jayintexas on September 17, 2011 at 1:39 pm
      • Hi Jay, thanks for the idea. I did look at the slide but it says that is a 1st floor bedroom in the east wing, a chaperone bedroom for the bunk room above. What do you think?

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 2:19 pm
        • Bee, I think the caption is only referring to the 'chaperone' room located below the framed bunk room floor depicted in the 6 of 10 slide. Slide 4 of 10 shows this same bunk room all done up with a questionable blue/purple paint. The picture was taken in the hallway between the bunk room and the bathroom and in front of the closet which is at the end of the hallway leading to the stair. Hope this helps.

Jayintexas on September 18, 2011 at 12:48 am
      • Jay, this is really bugging me today. Here's Kim's photo of that area and I believe that the picture you referred to in "beautiful bedrooms" (#6) there is a second bedroom on the left side of that red ladder. The blue bedroom is the boys, the bathrooms are in center, and there is a second bedroom that we don't see in the picture. Read Kim's descriptions again and look at this picture. http://homepage.mac.com/kim.mcdaniel/2012HGTVDrea

That would make it like the sketch only reversed. As I said before, interpretation of architectural drawings is not exactly my forte! One thing's for sure: we shall see… eventually!

beehivestate on September 18, 2011 at 2:53 pm
        • I maintain the 'sketch' is a ruse. In slide 6 you can see four windows, leaving very little room to the left of the ladder to have a Girl's Bunk room. I believe the second floor plan is correct. Time will tell.

Jayintexas on September 18, 2011 at 11:35 pm
          • You could be right, perhaps the one blue room will have all the bunks in it, such as they did in the VT home.

beehivestate on September 19, 2011 at 8:59 am
          • Here's my 2 cents on this topic…I think you're correct in your last statement, beehivestate. The bunk room will be one bunk room as in Stowe, not boys & girls as in the sketch (that could have been the early plan). I wondered about the the access to the balcony and after reading the comments from Jayintexas and you I too believe the floor plan shows what is being built at present. Of course that doesn't mean we are "all" wrong. lol

SweetLiz on September 19, 2011 at 10:34 am
          • Liz, I have pondered enough on this question so I'm going to give it a rest. The only thing that bothers me is that tivo_girl definitely said there were TWO IDENTICAL BEDROOMS at the top of the stairs, off a short hallway, with a bathroom in between. That's why I think there's something we're not seeing. I plan to go by the house this week and study it from the outside to see if I can solve the mystery for myself. Why would they change it after tivo said the framing was done? Go figure. I also think the blue is the boys and there will be a girls color for that room (50/50 chance I'm wrong, though, lol). Have a great week.

beehivestate on September 19, 2011 at 11:44 am
          • If they did have two rooms there could only be one set of bunks in the room with the balcony. That is what puzzled me when I first saw the double bunk room sketch. Also, it wouldn't be the first time that studs were reconfigured to change the floor plan. They did it on the third floor of the blog cabin this year.

SweetLiz on September 19, 2011 at 11:55 am
          • Ahhh. I see your point. Thanks.

beehivestate on September 19, 2011 at 12:21 pm
          • After all this, it doen't mean that there are not two bunk rooms, just that they both can't fit two sets of bunk beds.

SweetLiz on September 19, 2011 at 12:30 pm
          • Liz, we just drove by the house on our way home and I made my DH pull in and let me get a first-hand look at the space. now I have a definite idea and I'm going to look again at the sketch and then I will post again.

beehivestate on September 19, 2011 at 5:35 pm
      • Then why did HGTV show us an alternate plan for that space?

  12. I was just catching up and read your comment, Beehivestate, about using your binoculars to watch the building process…including being able to see right into the MBR's shower. Oh my!! Ha, ha :) If we win we'll have to put a fix to that. And thanks for the website you gave all of us, http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home2/51951995-183/d…. , we have a better perspective on some of the rooms. And those views….. WOW! My husband and I are ready to move – NOW!

SingerToo on September 17, 2011 at 12:37 am
    • that shower would be a little too "indoor-outdoor" experience for me unless they do the one-way glass treatment. I can't believe they would leave it exposed like that.

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 2:34 pm
  13. Does anybody know, or think, they put heating under any of the floors? There's a lot of glass in the great room, with a VERY high ceiling. Will that be hard to heat with only forced air heating? Being from the West Coast, just north of Santa Barbara, we don't have to deal with snow and cold in the winter, just rain and fog.

SingerToo on September 17, 2011 at 12:47 am
    • Don't know yet but in the VT house they had radiant heat under the floors.

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 1:16 pm
  14. When we first saw the floor plans I had a friend who said this home would be almost perfect for her. With two main floor bedrooms with private baths, and her mother and his parents living with them, it met their needs except for additional space for their kids. She bought plans for a a similar home to build (out on the farm, land space not a problem) . They are going make a few additional bedrooms since they are going to have a basement. The kitchen is going to be really large. She has been buying appliances, fixtures, flooring, tile, lighting, plumbing materials, wiring, etc for the last few years and has almost enough to complete the interior of the house. Hubby and brothers are going to do much of the labor. this winter. The shell is there and lots of work has been done. Yesterday we went shopping and I found a bargain for her. 2 beveled glass framed mirrors- originally $90 each clearanced to 90% off – so she has vanity mirrors for her in-laws bath at less than $20 with tax. She found great deals for most of the items she bought.

Nebraska on September 17, 2011 at 11:24 am
    • That's a good deal. It will be interesting to see the house come together. Our daughter-in-law just got 4 doors for $25 from the Park City recycle center, now all the doors in her house will match.

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 1:11 pm
      • She got the fixtures for her master bath at a Habitat Restore. It is a current model but somebody did not like the color and ripped a newly remodeled bath out. The fixtures are currently for sale at Lowes for over $5000 for the set. She paid about 10% of that. Actually the set she got is the Kohler Memoirs style- Memoirs was one of the choices we had for the Blog Cabin master bath sinks- (The one that won is the one I hated). She bought the rest of the toilets wholesale – I guess you can do that if you are buying 6 or 7 of them!

  15. This home almost has the feel and look of a castle within; however, I'm sure when Linda adds her touch it'll be as warm as a fire on a cold winter night. I like the flooring throughout the home. I'd love to add the same flooring within our own home. Just popped in to check out the progress and I really like what I'm seeing!!

lucyourdog on September 17, 2011 at 2:26 pm
    • I hope everyone takes off their shoes when they come in our house so the pretty flooring doesn't get scratched. Like when the public gets to come see it.

Our house will also be REALLY beaUTiful when it is decorated for the holidays! I can see a really BIG Christmas tree somewhere beside the fireplace! :) Wow! My mind is racing at the moment! :)

BrendainKs on September 17, 2011 at 4:29 pm
      • I think when they do tours, they make you take off your shoes or use paper booties. Either that or put paper runners where people can walk.

        • Yes, I remembered that as I was writing my entry. :) Thank you for saying it, though!! :)

How are you today? Do you have Lars today?

BrendainKs on September 17, 2011 at 5:38 pm
          • It's Saturday so no Lars. I'm watching HGTV Design Star and working a puzzle. When we moved here, we had a big coffee table built just for in front of the fireplace and TV, it's made of honey mesquite and we had it made in Tubac AZ. Any little dings, we just say "oh that's the look we're going for!" This is a house to be lived in 100%. I wouldn't dream of asking my guests to remove their shoes, although in Utah most people do in winter.

kitchens and greatrooms! She did a very nice job. I just sat down for a rest and the
repeat of Design Star started so I watched for the third time (?) and they announced
her show so I watched it!

SandyLA on September 17, 2011 at 11:03 pm
          • Yeah, I saw her do that $30,000 kitchen! I liked her and the guy both but I'm glad she won. I never watched the show until last week when it was down to the last two of them. I'd like to see what else she does. I thought her bit on decorating "crimes" was cute.

fdteam on September 17, 2011 at 7:21 pm
          • I don't know. I'm just saying what I read from someone who went on a tour of the Green Home, i think it was. I think with winter footgear and so much snow, it would be better to go with the "no shoes" plan. I plan to be on the first tour so I'll let you know.

          • Yes. With all the hard surfaces and high ceilings, I would expect soft furnishings and rugs to help with the acoustics. Otherwise, there will surely be a lot of echo in there.

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 10:00 pm
          • That was a good question BredainKs. I think Mrs. Beehive answered that question well. The rugs would add color and cozy to the big rooms as well. I can't wait to see the final touches!

lucyourdog on September 18, 2011 at 9:16 am
          • That's what I was hoping!! :)

BrendainKs on September 18, 2011 at 7:19 pm
          • Thousands of people will be going through on tour, if it were to be your home, wouldn't you want those floors to be protected? I would.

beehivestate on September 17, 2011 at 10:03 pm
          • YES, I would want them to be protected!! They could wear those doctor slippers that you slip onto your shoes…..or just take your shoes off at the front door.

BrendainKs on September 18, 2011 at 7:20 pm
          • I say that when in Rome…

For me, it's a cultural thing. At my Thailand home, I have a shoe "cabinet" near the front entry and always remove my shoes immediately upon coming into the house. Nearly all Thai people will remove their shoes at the front entry BEFORE entering the home. Since it is the expected custom to do so, you never have to ask guests or even workers to remove their shoes. They do so without question. I have slippers/sandals to wear in the home.

Here at home in CA I'm not quite as particular. I will wear my street shoes into the house, but soon take them off and wear slippers. I have outdoor moccasins at the back sliders that I slip on when going into the yard. I don't ask guests to take off their shoes however, since for many Americans that is simply not the norm, and makes it a bit awkward if you ask them to do so. Besides, it gives the housekeepers something to do!

For the HGTV Sweepstakes home tours, the slip-on booties are always provided. A smart move, and one that ensures the home remains spotless for the lucky winner's first visit.

DBCoop on September 18, 2011 at 11:52 pm
          • fdteam, coming in from the "roadway" would not only put dust and dirt on the floor, but the
small pebbles and sharp stones would surely scratch the surface of the wood. Soft booties
            is the way to go!

SandyLA on September 17, 2011 at 11:06 pm

fdteam on September 18, 2011 at 9:00 am

          • I agree!

BrendainKs on September 18, 2011 at 7:21 pm
          • You have a good point but some of us, myself included, cannot walk pain free without shoes due to injury or infirmity. I always wear shoes indoors but they are my "virgin" shoes that never have been outside! I keep a bench inside and outside the front door if people wish to take off their shoes they can sit down. We have Japanese friends and, of course, they always remove shoes. In their home, as you come in, the entry is ground level but then you sit down to remove shoes and the rest of the house is at the level of the place you sit down. It's very unusual but comfortable. They also provide slippers for guests.

I don't mind sweeping my floors of a little dirt if my guests are comfortable, that's my first priority.

beehivestate on September 18, 2011 at 7:35 pm
          • That's a great priority!!!

  17. The reporter of Beehivestate's article said that the house was mostly done in June. that is kind of
puzzling to me. It should be finished in September. Does she mean furnished as well? Look I get
confused very easily, and I don't need someone giving me confusing ideas on top of it. Where do
we stand? ( Of coarse I am at the fence looking at the house in all it's glory watching…………?)

SandyLA on September 17, 2011 at 11:11 pm

in June which was way to long ago. Thank you once again for coming to my rescue and for
putting me on the straight road. Go to GH as C&E put up her pictures already. The home will
          be big! ;)

Nebraska on September 18, 2011 at 9:56 am
    • I appreciate your concern, Nebraska. I was aware of but did not attend the Reno airshow, and was safely home by then, though I suppose that driving the highways and byways of this country are more dangerous than attending an airshow. Anyway, I prefer visiting air museums to live overflights by vintage flying machines.

I go on the other HGTV giveaway blogs, too (Urban Oasis, Green Home) as well as DIY network's blog, "Blog Cabin". Many HGTV bloggers are on the DIY site, but there are some bloggers who are only on DIY. They are a very warm bunch of people… and here on this site–what would we do without our Beehivestate ??? :D

  23. What a beautiful home! I can't wait for the show to be on TV to see the tour, and to see how it will be furnished.
What I don't see is at least a half bath on the first floor. I wouldn't want people to go through bedrooms to use one. Is it just not marked on the plans?

    pals1107 on September 19, 2011 at 10:28 am
    • There is one right next to the kitchen. 8 is kitchen and there is a little room that isn't marked, that is the powder room. HGTV would NEVER not have a powder room.

    • Back at you, Brenda! How are you surviving calculus?

beehivestate on September 20, 2011 at 2:27 pm
      • Funny you should ask about that……my instructor and I both agreed that I should take the College Algebra class again due to me not understanding ANYTHING about Calculus. They have tutor's, but seems I don't have time with my other classes, homework, group activities, and driving an hour to class every day takes a lot of time. So next semester, I will take Calculus and hopefully I can manage my time better.

        Thank you for asking! :)

        • It's all a foreign language to me, math, I remember one day sitting down and thinking “is there anything else I could major in that doesn't require this torture?”

beehivestate on September 21, 2011 at 9:04 am
      • Hi Brenda, just wondering, what are you studying that you need calculus for your course work? Sounds like engineering, architecture or something like that… I remember a year when I had to take anatomy and physiology for a whole year. I did absolutely no outside activities at all during that time and it literally took 100% of my effort including weekends.

beehivestate on September 21, 2011 at 10:39 pm
        • I am getting a Management degree and I have NO IDEA why we have to have that stinkin' Calculus class, but "it's required." Even if I get a "D" out of the class, I will graduate. "D" means diploma!

BrendainKs on September 22, 2011 at 9:27 pm

  28. Only a couple days left until the first day of Autumn, and that means getting ready for all those fun country-style Halloween activities. The Homestead Resort in Midway will be hosting a Pumpkin Patch and Wagon Rides starting October 1st, so mark your calendars, pardners!

Which makes me wonder if the HGTV Dream Home team will spend some time carving pumpkins to light up the River Meadow Ranch property and keep the goblins at bay. After all, how would YOU like to be the poor security person in charge of keeping order and curious bloggers at bay on those dark Midway nights — all alone in that big, empty house — with not a "living" soul in sight.

I sure hope that load-in day happens soon … at least there'd be a bed or two to hide under!

CplusE on September 20, 2011 at 8:02 pm
      • Mostly they are aspens. By the way, Vermont is also beaUTiful but Utah is right up there, equally.

beehivestate on September 20, 2011 at 8:59 pm
        • I didn't know aspens turned red — when we lived in Colorado the ones there only turned a bright golden yellow. Where I grew up in Pennsylvania we had fall color similar to Vermont. You can't beat all those maple trees for gorgeous leaf color!

CplusE on September 20, 2011 at 10:10 pm
          • My bad, I must've been tired. Of course aspens turn gold. We have aspens up in the hills. The red trees are something else I can't remember right now, give me awhile!

      • But dreaming doesn't cost anything.

alicesoneysmom on September 20, 2011 at 6:44 pm
    • I'd say we're lonnnnnng past due for a Dream Home in Kukui'ula, Kauai! DMB Associates has done such a great job with their Hawaiian oceanfront community, and Jack T needs to give them a pat on the back for all their efforts with one of those sought after Dream Home contracts.

I'm also wondering about a DH in Georgia. There was a previous Dream Home built in St. Marys, GA in 2004. I wonder if Mary has an attachment to that name place? Otherwise, I'll just have to mention the Highlands Park custom home development of Callaway Gardens once again. Maybe, just maybe, the squeaky wheel will get the next Dream Home.

Now I suspect that if Mary gets her way, we'll be looking at a Pennsylvania Dream Home somewhere around Bucks County. Fair enough. She's worked hard keeping up with all this sweepstakes activity lately, on top of the HGTVRemodels website, so I can't begrudge her a trout fishing stream and a DH built of locally quarried limestone.

DBCoop on September 20, 2011 at 5:36 pm
      • I can… begrudge her that is. Hawaii has trout and she can have locally quarried limestone. If not she can visit 'Iolani's palace often. http://www.iolanipalace.org/

She can have her dream home in Hawaii with a goat, with a boat, or with a moat. It's time to make the idea of an HGTV Dream Home in Hawaii float.

Cami on September 20, 2011 at 6:19 pm
    • What? Mary's toying with my emotions again. No wonder she hasn't had time to start any other blogs. She's spending all her time thinking of ways to get at me, and everyone else who's longing for the tropics. I say have at it Mary. We're tougher than you think!! We can take it!!:p

Cami on September 20, 2011 at 6:04 pm
      • Hi Cami I ran across this song I played before but it is so beautiful we could listen to it over and over. You are right we are tough and we are not going to give up. Eventually Jack T and Mary will be the ones that will have to give in. Like you said before the clues might not be easy for Mary to think up about a DH in Hawaii, maybe that is the delay. They are having a hard time thinking of clues. Thank you for sharing your story about your beautiful daughter. It is the simple things that count. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GeUH787WMk&fe

  33. I went back to see what Linda did in previous homes as to the "bunkhouse" theme. Here's one I like, it's the 2007 Dream Home in Winter Park. http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20… So, a bunk room with two bunks to sleep four, and using the "woodsy" motifs of the ski country.

I also really really admired what she did with the kitchen in that home, it had the blue countertops and backsplashes, as you might remember.

beehivestate on September 20, 2011 at 5:22 pm

      http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20

I also loved the fifth bunk so high up in the room — talk about getting away from it all!

CplusE on September 20, 2011 at 8:10 pm
      • What year was Lake Lure? I wasn't really following the builds until 2007, then 2009 a little bit, and 2010 a lot. Thanks for that link, CplusE. I never saw that house. It occurs to me that perhaps Linda would design that bunkhouse room with a similar bunk over the Juliet balcony doors. That red is fantastic, I love it!

  36. When can we enter?

    dodgenu819 on September 20, 2011 at 8:03 pm
    • It appears that we can enter between December 1st and February 18th – am I correct? Just when we all
know the answer of Jan. 1st, they up and change the date. I am wondering why they changed it, there
has to be a reason, a very good reason.

  37. Love the Great Room! Also, the bunk room sounds absolutely perfect for when the Grandchildren come to visit. ;) I am anxious to see what the views are from the Master Bedroom . . . I have been loving the Dream Homes for years, but this is my favorite yet! I am originally from Utah, and just found out that we are moving there this fall, after 35 years away. So, I am really hoping this home "has my name on it", but I will be very happy for whoever wins. Thank you Mary for the pictures, and everyone else for the links and interpretations. Does anyone know if the public is allowed to see inside, like at an open house?

Timpgirl on September 20, 2011 at 8:10 pm
    • Yes, there will be tours at $20 a pop, starting in December or January, to benefit a local nonprofit. You can see the views from the master bedroom windows if you can find my link to the photos taken in June by tivo_girl. My neighbor also walked through before it was posted no trespassing and she said the views upstairs are a sight to behold. Glad you are moving back to Utah, good luck and welcome to our blog. I live in Midway, if you win I'll come knock on the door and bring you a loaf of homemade bread!

    • In the future, there will be tours of the inside, but it has yet to be furnished! We have not been made
      aware of the dates yet.

  38. I was staring at the picture on the main page. The windows and oh so shiney floors are just so gorgious.
I was wondering Mary, would you consider another large family table with a red top (it was so shiney too)?

  41. Yesterday was another gorgeous day so when my DS came to pick up Lars, he and my DH decided to go fishing first. They headed down to their "lucky" fishing hole and cast a line. Almost instantly, my DS called out "Dad!!!" and it turned out DS cast his line and his dog caught it right inside her mouth! The dog took off for the car, my DS chasing 100 feet behind, and DH in the rear. They went right over to the Wasatch Animal Hospital, the vet sedated the dog and got the lure out and gave the dog a penicillin shot just in case… all is well but that's the fish story of the day. My DS said "only $78" for the vet and that every-other-year or so something like that happens to the dog.

    • Oooh, that poor dog — that must have been agony! I remember accompanying my brother and sister-in-law on a fishing trip, and somehow my brother managed to hook his wife right below the mouth! Luckily he is a doctor and she is a nurse so they treated it right then and there, but my sister-in-law got very quiet, which for her means she was really in pain. Needless to say she and I no longer go fishing with my brother!

    • Sorry to hear that happened. Let us know how she is doing. Soney and I are throwing get-well wishes her way!

      • Thanks and she (Nikki) is fine and dandy, sweet as candy, today… barking up a storm as per her usual.

  42. Ouch! I told the story to Terri and she said no fishing for her, no way. She quipped that if she wanted fish for dinner, she'd buy it at the local store's seafood counter. Of course, I'd get to cook it, and she'd be willing to split a filet or two with me.

DBCoop on September 21, 2011 at 1:56 pm
    • Maybe she would like sushi, Coop — that way you wouldn't even have to cook it!

Just now I was thinking how much I like Ethan Allen furniture and so what about a beautiful farmhouse style table for the dining room in the 2012 HGTV Dream Home?

beehivestate on September 21, 2011 at 9:03 pm
    • Hi Beehive, Yes, I love Ethan Allen and look thru on-line furniture as well, Do you know Horchows? They are online and really oppulent. Also, since you mentioned the bunk room from 2007(?) … I recently looked at the videos of the dreamhouse in Oregon. Wow. But what caught my eye was the couches Linda selected for that livng room. Take a look. They look utterly comfortable. and great looking. Cheers!

  47. It is definitely a beautiful home so far! And a beautiful location to boot! I haven't posted in a while, but I was surprised (with all the advance stuff in the early blogging) that Utah was the location decided upon.

However, I do not wish to be either an alarmist or killjoy here, but I do have a question. It follows off of an earlier discussion, earlier this year, when many of us were discussing the possible locations of this home, and what sort of fauna called those various locations home. My favorite, of course, was Alaska (and, naturally, there were the inevitable questions about bears, wolves, moose, etc.). A lot of people wanted and hoped for Hawaii (which, as I pointed out, has plenty of dangers just off the breakers in the water, and some on land as well). And then, a bit later, when I researched the state of Utah (after learning of the location for this home), I noticed one particular native resident which I believe is more dangerous to humans than either tiger sharks, bull sharks, great whites, irukanji, grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, or moose. And that is the cougar (mountain lion, puma, or whatever else you wish to call it). The creature apparently lives all over the state of Utah and, on a far greater level than those other animals, it presents a real danger to both humans and pets (and farm animals). It attacks from ambush, wanders through human-populated areas in the later hours and overnight, and is a real concern (to mention nothing of the rather lesser risk to pets of coyotes…another state resident).

Has the HGTV Dream Home team taken this into account? Not only for the potential winner and his or her family, but any pets? Will there be secure and reliable fencing raised on the property? And the security and strength of the home itself? Or has the surrounding community taken that into account? I hardly wish to throw a damper on things, but I would like to know more about this consideration, and whether or not the team has looked into it.

Heh. Sorry guys. But it is a sensible question, all things considered.

  48. OMG absolutely stunning, from the science of views to the modern build but with a long generation expression. I am so tired of the torture of dreaming year after year and they are all so desirable. There are so many grand and unique features. I wondered what room the Juliet style balcony was located; being off the master bedroom is a bonus. In this age a game room is useful space. A barn today is a luxury, of time passed. I don't fully picture the entry; I think it's a grand staircase which leads you to eventually see the great room. It's smart to build by own water source since this is an eco-commodity. Love that two rail fence too. Those beams inside and out are massive. I think the limestone is the grandeur of all the features. Come on 2012!

  49. Looks almost exactly like the dining room at my father's restaurant when I was young.

  50. This is truly spectacular! Congrats Meg and thank you Mary for the lovely pictures, I can't wait to see more! My nearly 4 year old son, Callum, said, "Mommy if we move into this house, we will have to have a big party like the family on Sound of Music!" I might have subjected he and my nearly 2 year old daughter, Hadley, to my all-time favorite movie a few times! ; ) The truth is, I think he is right! What a fantastic idea! I can also imagine myself outside gazing at the snow-covered mountains singing at the top of my lungs, "the hills are alive with the sound of music!" I am so excited about this dream house- so far my absolute favorite! Fingers and toes are crossed for this gem.
