The Sun Shines on HGTV Dream Home

We’re nearing the completion of HGTV Dream Home 2012. Our interior designer Linda Woodrum is presently at the home, putting her finishing touches on interior and exterior spaces. Today, I’d like to share a series of photos sent from house planner Jack Thomasson. In dramatic fashion, skies cleared just as delivery trucks arrived with furnishings. At the end of “load-in day”, clouds rolled back in, casting a gorgeous glow on our modern rustic-style ranch home.
Wondering when we’ll reveal pics and videos of the finished interior? Mark your calendars for December 1 when our online virtual tour launches. Then on December 29, at 9 a.m. ET, our giveaway entry period begins. Remember: You can enter twice daily for your chance to win HGTV Dream Home 2012!

Lovely home, beautiful Fall weather, job well done, I can hardly wait for the tour, and I sure appreciate all the updates that Beehive has provided us.
Hi smokesmom, hope you like the pix I just posted. That one picture Mary posted where the sky is dark, well right about then everything got black and a big storm came in. She captured it just perfectly right before the storm.
The pics are wonderful, I actually got to see the dream home when I was in Park City for an Art workshop, it was under construction but I could see how beautiful it was going to be. Careful about those slippery rocks and give that Grandbaby a hug from another "Grannie". I really really hope that whoever wins this stunning home can actually live there and be good friends with you Beehive.
Me too, thanks.
I agree. I am just across the Sierras and would love to call this my home.
DAILY BUZZ. 10/6 Thursday, our first snow day in Midway and it's awesome to come home from picture taking and find Mary's new post!
I have some more wonderful pictures for you, I hope you like them. My feet got so wet from climbing the berm and getting in and out of the car but it was worth it. I took all of these with my little camera and the zoom and I never even was on the DH or RMR property. This is so much fun, even my DH said I did good today! Give me a couple minutes to get these from the camera to Flickr to the blog. Be right back.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/sets/72…
Play it like "slide show" then go back and look at the captions. Larsie is up from his nap now so I get to go back into Grammy mode!
Beautiful pictures Beehivestate. My favorite is #15 the territorial view. It puts the whole house and lot in perspective with the river. Looks like you did a bit of hiking and driving to capture all these different views!
Actually all I did was drive River Road past the property and climb up on the berm; then a took a left up to the top of the River Meadows Ranch road and got most of the territorial views. I also did stop a few times along River Road and got out of the car and looked around… everywhere here is gorgeous, even on a rainy day. Did you see the one with the snowy hills behind the blue roof equestrian center? I just wanted you to see the snow, it's like powdered sugar today. Our first snow of the winter.
So thats what snow looks like…
Enjoyed the pictures. Thanks. Keep it up.
It was actually more rain but did you see the picture with the snow on the hillside? The upper elevations are all snowy, I'm glad we went over Guardsman Pass last Friday because by tomorrow it will be all different and the gold will be gone for the year. Tonight we will probably have snow right here in little Midway City!
I noticed all of the snowy pictures. I love looking at the snow on the mountains in the distance. I don't care for the snow in my front yard anymore. I've had too many years of snow shoveling! ^_^
I hear you! We have a snow blower (my DH likes using it!) and a service does the road in front of our house.
Also love that view!
Wow, I just read your post and now off to view the pictures. Thanks Mrs. Beehive!!
Great pictures of the landscape and home Mrs. Beehive. You're going to make a lot of people smile with those great photos!!
Beehivestate…. "You are wonderful to share these with all of us". Thank you very much. You must be really close to the location, aren't you? I think I noticed in one of your earlier postings that you live quite close. Maybe the'll break the rules and let you in!!! I can dream, can't I?
Hi Stella, yes, I'm only less than 2.5 miles from the Dream Home. Lucky me! Please, if you win I want to visit you!!
I will "promise" you that """"if"""" I should win, not only will you visit & have dinner BUT, we will become good friends too! ^_^
Thank you, Stella! I will look forward to that dinner!! And in the late spring, I'll give you”the tour” of your new community.
"From your mouth to GOD'S ears". And, it would be many dinners I'm sure!
The community itself is breathtaking. I love the open, airy & beautiful mountains in the background. It's just so big, I don't know what I'd do with all the space but…. I sure would like to figure it out. Good night my friend, I'm finally signing off for the night. Hope to chat soon. TTFN
Oh my!!!! I love what you've done, Beehivestate!!! Our house is totally jaw-dropping! I had to take a deep breath before I even clicked on those pictures, because I knew it was going to take my breath away! And it did!!!
Thank you to HGTV, River Meadows Ranch and Rimrock for the beaUTiful house!!!
I have to agree with you, Rimrock has done a stellar job with this home. I'm so impressed, watching the construction over these months, with the attention to detail.
Looking at the pictures again, though, I agree with DBCoop, those trees are way close to the house! It looks good now but there isn't much room to grow.
LOL, Bee–I wonder if Mary would not have waited some more days (weeks?) to post the photos–maybe you forced her hand a bit !
Loving the surrounding area–it is all so beautiful there. Please don't catch cold getting wet feet in the quest of your photo- ops . Always thanks so much for sharing your lovely neighborhoods. <3
hugs for Lars.
Good morning LL, Larson sends you a big smile and a “high five!”
I agree that the trees are too close to the house. Could also mean some potential damage to the foundation of the house.
Wow great pictures of the home thank you for sharing. Is it normal for Midway to get snow in October? The area is beautiful you are so lucky to live there and enjoy the views of the river and the mountains near by, it looks so serene and peacful.
Hi albbora, This is the earliest we've ever had snow on the high peaks, at least as long as I've been here (5 yr). Maybe it “doesn't count,” since there's nothing on the streets yet. I can remember a few times we had significant snow just before Halloween, though. We know we're lucky to live here, thank you so much! I love sharing it with the rest of the country.
I love these, Midway! You do so much for us, and it gives us all the feeling that we are right there! I especially like the same picture that Ed likes — it shows so much of the landscaping and gives an overall impression of the house that we haven't seen in the time-lapse photos. Thanks for taking that hike, no matter how short you say it was!
You didn't get nearly the snow that we got here in Star Valley yesterday. We had over six inches on our deck, and it's not even close to melting off. I wish we had put away our patio furniture before this, but I at least "harvested" all of my container herbs. So, our first snow of the winter was a bit more substantial than your dusting, but I'm kind of sorry to win that contest!
I'm sure you get waaay more snow than Midway. I'm letting our patio chairs dry out and then we put it in the crawl space under the house. My DH built us a couple of folding Adirondack chairs. On the front porch, we have rockers made from that recycled milk bottle plastic and they can sit outdoors all winter. In spring, we just hose them off and good to go.
beehivestate these were great pictures. They not only show us great pictures of the house but also gets us famaliar with the surrounding area. I appreciate all of your hard work.
You're welcome scorewarrior! It's easy to do great pictures when you live in such a beaUTiful place.
what were the crossroads for the dream home? (:
Hi Emily, what do you mean by "crossroads?" If you want to look it up on Google Earth, use 2400 River Road, Midway UT and you'll get real close. Hope that helps. Great to see you back on here, BTW. Since you haven't been over here for awhile, I wonder if you like this DH as much as you did the home in Stowe, so far, I mean.
Thank you for the fantastic pics!!! Loved them all!
Beehive, your pictures are spectacular! It looks like the DH was placed into a beautiful
setting almost overnight! Thanks for all of the pics!
Thanks so much for sharing these pictures with us. It sure is pretty country around there and the house is absolutely beautiful! Really made my day seeing these pictures.
Glad you enjoyed them, I agree that it is very pretty country. I'm so glad we live here. I wake up every morning, look out my windows, and feel peaceful and happy. Every little thing is easy to like… even when you get behind a slow-moving hay truck!
Be still my heart! Thanks Beehivestate!
Sonny, my sister lives in AZ and she says the weather is just getting comfortable. If you win the DH you can come here for summer and rent it out for winter and have the best of both worlds!
It is getting very nice now, beehivestate, and your idea is just what we've been thinking. We'd have to have family gatherings in Utah for the holidays even though it's nice here during the season.
Awesome photos, beehivestate! They give us a real sense of the location and surrounding area.
Yes, I do like the blue on the house. It is consistent with that ranch house/added-on look that is the house design.
Now are you going to give us some pics of the area after a heavy snow fall? It should be beautiful!
Hold your horses, paperdragon! Don't go wishing that on us yet! Reminds me of the first year we were here and we went to the ACE hardware and asked to buy a snow shovel. The “helpful hardware man” looked askance at us and went “shhh!!!” Give us until November and you bet'cha we'll have snow pix.
Totally in love with this setting!
Me too. I was just thinking after we get “big snow,” I won't be able to drive up to the top of the River Meadows Ranch road because it's very steep and curvy.
I don't know about you, but I'M impressed with the photos Mary posted of the house and storm clouds. Time to settle into the Master Bedroom Sitting Area and snuggle up with a good book while the wind, rain and snow whirl and swirl around this dreamy home.
…wrapped in a cozy flannel quilt… (don't forget the quilt when you make your images).
Just one quick question, though. The news wire releases (from early June) stated that the entry period started on December 30, 2011. This current post says December 31, 2011. HELP MARY! I've already marked my calendar for the 30th. Is it time for the whiteout? Oh, all this change is so stressful! ^_^
get a grip. its only 1 day
I absolutely love this home! It is picture perfect! And, I am so pleased to hear that the decorating has begun. I know Linda will do an excellent job……..just as she always does! I cannot wait for the virtual tour to begin! How exciting!
"In dramatic fashion, skies cleared just as delivery trucks arrived with furnishings. At the end of “load-in day”, clouds rolled back in, casting a gorgeous glow on our modern rustic-style ranch home."
Well it is Midway to Heaven after all. Prayers are answered quicker. I'd expect nothing less.
This awesome modern ranch is a gem.! Thanks Linda for decorating my future home. I know you won't disappoint, lol! Love you Linda
Now, let's see if Coop is successful with obtaining the correct entry date for us.
I try not to visit this blog as often because I've noticed it has preoccupied most of my dreams at night. In my dreams I also envision a GMC Sierra HD (White diamond color) pickup parked in the driveway as I ride up to the garage driving the new Polaris Ranger (side by side) ATV! xD Sweet Dreams!! Oh, and now back to your regular scheduled HGTV Blog
Lucy.. This blog is my therapy. I visit it daily because it helps me to "rezone" my thinking and focus on things that are positive and communicate with people who are hopeful. Don't avoid it. This blog has great karma!
Wowww it looks Beautiful ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Cannot wait to see how the Decor will come out!!!!!
BREATHLESS!
Yes, monkeysluvdani! Breathless! I keep looking at my pictures over and over in different modes on the iMac… I am addicted! And I actually saw it in person but with the pictures, it makes me so happy!
Linda did such an exquisite job with the Vermont home, I'm sure this one will be just as outstanding. I actually "mourned" the loss of the Vermont home. Yup… I'm sort of ashamed to say it because I wasn't even blogging at the time – just entering & reading. But, Linda has a way of pulling you right in so you mentally "live there" and fantasize about how/when/why you would use the home. I truly believe her skills make all the difference in the world.
How right you are. I am awestruck at how Linda Woodrum "gets it" with the essence of each home. I never thought she could do any better than Stowe, I loved that home, but I expect to fall head-over-heels in love with the 2012 HGTV Dream Home in Midway, UT.
ohhhh Vermont. I love it.
Sitting here looking out and anticipating the snowfall tonight, I can just picture Linda Woodrum inside the house, snug as a bug in a rug, and I hope against hope she is putting quilts on some of the beds. This is perfect quilt weather. I'm going to switch out my summer quilts for the flannel now that it's colder. We turned on our gas log fireplace for the first time today, it's so cozy and warm. Haven't had to start the furnace yet. We should get another week of good weather next week but today and tomorrow it is only 39 degrees.
Hi beehivestate your pictures are breathtaking. Thank you so much. The River Sings. This clip is so pretty and the DH river really does sing and it reminds us also of C&E and her beautiful horses. You asked me earlier about the weather here. You have only one guess. We did not turn off our furnace because of the cold and rainy weather. Not complaining we love Seattle. The other day it was raining so hard that Soney stuck his paw out the door and ran back inside. I said what is wrong with you you are supposed to like the water. Anyway this is a pretty song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugVlI_CEpWg&fe…
Most of that, except the ocean beach ones, could very easily be from the Heber Valley/Midway. Sometimes I'm just driving down River Road and I see the beautiful horses and I want to stop and photograph them.
That was so beautiful! I especially liked the last photo of the herd of horses with the spectacular mountains in the background. I am going to change my avatar today to a picture of my very old Appaloosa horse! ^_^
OMG, C+E, that photo of your 30 year old baby is so moving ! How beautiful!
On John Gidding's FB page, he stated he was on his way to SLC! I'm thinking he's going to film at our DH!!!
Can't wait to see him in action!
Whoopie! I'll be watching for him. He's going to be in Salt Lake City for the Home Show this weekend, perhaps he's going to stop by Midway and get some pictures while he's in Utah.
No the Home Show…..
Maybe….but he just may swing by our house too!!
I mean, since he's there already!
It's the Deseret News Home Show at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy (suburb of SLC). There's a big article about him, "Giddy for John GIdding". He'll be there Oct. 7-9th. Maybe he'll come by the Dream Home on Monday on his way back.
Did you see John Gidding at our house on Monday?
No I saw a lot of cars there the last couple days and I didn't want to be hanging over the fence, too obvious like, you know. I bet he was there, though. My current plan is to get more “over the fence” pix on Thursday if it doesn't rain and if Lars takes a long nap and I can leave him with DH for awhile. And I've actually been quilting today… first time in a long while, maybe there's hope for me!
"BHS"….. I've got an idea LOL maybe you can create a few "disguises" so they don't see the same person all the time. One day a blonde, the next a red-head…. then a genteleman in over-hauls ummm let's think…. Then maybe you can get all dressed up, made up & ready to go. Knock on the door and begin speaking a different language as you push your way inside. Click a few picks and say "So-ree… no spek English", from International Dream Home Review magazine looking for mr Gittings for interview. LOL LOL Wouldn't that be a hoot Beehive????
:D:p:D:D
You have a good imagination, I will say that! My best so far is my hiking shorts and my Colorado Rockies hat so I look like a fisherman in the back yard. Thing is, the security man knows my vehicle now so unless I walk in, I can't get away with too much. I will take your ideas under advisement, however lol
It's so beautiful. I would live in it as-is!
Speaking of rain we thought we would take and ice skating break. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXtd7xq7URM
Oh! I love that one even better. I wonder how they did that with the rain? Really neat! Thank you.
That was just delightful, Alice and Soney! Thank you for the link!
luv it…..
Halloween is creeping up on us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTlfQj7KN44&fe…
Very fun! I'm thinking it would be neat to carve a pumpkin and leave it at the DH on Halloween morning.
What a great idea!
JANZEE, are you in Vegas? If so, I'm here until Sunday morning. Let's meet. Give me a disposable contact number for you or let's meet at the Fashion Show.
Lessie I posted to one of Janzee's old posts for you. Here is her answer "Eddie everything is fine. I've had computer problems and havn't been on. I miss you guys sooo much and can't wait to be fully up and running again. I start the Jewish holidays in an hour or sooo- If you see Lessie, tell her I will be in Vegas, and would love to meet her if she can for lunch. My business number is 310-871-3618." Good luck on hooking up with her.
Love the blogger connections. You ROCK, Ed!!! Thanks!
You're welcome Lessie. I hope you two hook up.
My jaw dropped when I saw these new pictures! Oh my gosh, it IS my dream home! I love tudors, they are my dream home for sure! What a beautiful home, I would be happy to start my life in Utah:) Please HGTV let me have it, so I can start my life and hopefully get a better job:)
Sending Linda Woodrum happy thoughts, and many thanks for all the beauty and warmth you have given to the Dream Homes all these years! You are a magician !
You've outdone yourself again, Bee. You definitely have an eye for catching some engaging images. Is photography a hobby? If not, you may wish to consider it…..
Oh no, granintx, I take no credit… it's the camera… seriously! This little camera makes it so easy to take great pictures. I'm amazed. And then with my iMac and iPhoto, I can enhance the picture if need be. The only thing I have to do is hold it steady and even that, the camera helps me quite a bit. Everywhere I look is something to photograph so it's a piece of cake! Thanks anyway, nice of you and I'm glad you like the pix.
Yes!!! She's AWESOME!!!
Tell it to my DH, Brenda! lol
Yes, you are too awesome, beehive ! You know there are fabrics that can have photos transferred onto with inkjet printers;would it not be fun to make a quilt of photos you have taken ?
Oh yes, I know about that but I've never done one. What a good idea, I'll have to think about it.
Attention Beehivestate's DH: She is AWESOME!
(I am sure he knows this already.)
Funny! I put it in his mailbox, that is a good one.
Good morning you guys. It's 39 degrees and I almost got up during the night and turned on the furnace. The sky is red this morning so "sailors take warning?" I'm off to Park City, they probably have snow on the ground over there, as it is much higher than Midway. DBCoop, I didn't get my HGTV magazine yet, maybe today I hope.
Good morning, beehivestate! Thanks for the great photos of the DH! I'm looking forward to seeing the virtual tour — I don't know how I can patiently wait until Dec. 1st! I got my HGTV magazine yesterday because I just had to see Vern Yip's dog room. It did not disappoint!
I subscribed and still don't have mine yet but maybe today. Then we can discuss Vern's dog room!
Hello, Beehive! I was thinking about you yesterday while the snow was falling here on the west side of the mountain that is between us. I was wondering if Midway was getting a few inches as well. The great thing about this first snow is that it is probably just a "warning shot" of what's to come. We are supposed to get some nice weather next week, so hopefully more glorious fall weather is just around the corner. Your DH pictures are amazing and make me long for Midway. Do you know if there will be any tours of the home open to the public? I would be there in a minute if that were the case. Enjoy your weekend!
Hi WishingforIt, yes there will be tours and it will probably be $20 the same as for Stowe with the money going to a local nonprofit. I don't know when they will start, probably late December or early January. We didn't get any snow on the ground here in Midway but we I noticed Mount Timpanogos is completely white this morning and it is back in all her glory. Looks like good weather next week, maybe one more trip over Guardsman pass is in order.
HGTV should ask you to be hostess for the DH tours, then. You've been great at feeding our curious minds all fall!
The snow here has completely soaked into the ground. The grass is still a vibrant green and most of the trees at work haven't even turned colors yet. Looking forward to being in your area (closer to Jordanelle) this weekend to enjoy Columbus Day.
I was thinking of being a volunteer host for tours but we babysit our little GS every day so I have no free time for volunteering for that. Anyway, I will go on the tour as soon as they start.
Did you tour the Stowe house? Ohhh i wish i could come tour the Midway house!
No, I've only been in Stowe twice, once in Oct. 2008 and once the following summer. All before the Dream Home.
Wishingforit (great name!), I need to know when the public tours are so I can plan the rest of my
year correctly! If you hear, please post so I can know also.;)
Sandy, I'll let you know as soon as I find out. It's going to be winter weather, that much I know for sure.
Yes, I am planning on it!
After viewing Bee's pictures for the 4th or 5th time….. (Each time it gets better and better…. totally awesome)….I have a few questions.
Is a round-about a cul-de-sac?
The DH lot seems to be on an incline. Will melting snow or water flow toward the home?
Is the property behind the DH (separated by the fence) public access/domain property?
Also, I did not see any satellite dishes on any of the homes. Is this service permitted in this subdivision?
By the way, Bee. If we become neighbors…. I have loads of grandkids…. Some of them have a vacation to enjoy winter sports high on their "bucket lists." Needless to say, this would be a shared "dream" home. ….and one of my chief hobbies is photography…..
A roundabout is not quite like a cul-de-sac, as traffic moves through it like an intersection of a street. It helps by removing the need for stop signs or traffic lights, but in my opinion, people don't drive through them very well, especially out here in the West, because there just aren't that many. Folks start getting confused about when to yield and when to merge. Here's more info, in fact much more than you want to know, I'm certain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundabout
Thank you Wyo_Girl…. Very interesting.
We have several of these roundabouts here where I live in MI. the concept was too ease the flow of traffic but it did not! IMHO it has just added a stressful mess. I do so hate those things. I drive vvveeerrryyy slowly trough themsince I am never sure if I am doing it right!
I'm with you, Moon Lady — I hate roundabouts!
We have several roundabouts in Midway and I like them. It keeps traffic moving without all the stop signs. It does take some getting used to, though, I'll give you that. I live right by the River Road roundabout and when it was first in use, there were a couple of accidents. The main problem is people go too fast and don't yield. Moon Lady, in the roundabout yield to the traffic on the LEFT.
By the way, if you go back and google earth 2400 River Road Midway UT you can actually see the little roundabout right in front of the Dream Home, in the River Meadows Ranch subdivision. You will also see the fence line, the lot where the DH now sits, and the river.
Hi granintx, I'm sure there are satellite dishes on the homes, that's how we get our TV around here. The DH lot is very level, if it looks sloped it's probably just my wonky photography. The house is built on a 24" high plinth to raise it up and capture views and to lift it higher above the flood plain. The land behind the DH fence is public property and any one can walk right up to the fence and look over without trespassing. That's how I get my pictures of the back of the house. Access via the little fishing bridge that i photographed on Thursday.
With a hobby like photography, you will be in heaven here in Midway. There was so much snow on the high peaks today, my DH commented that the photographers were most likely up the passes taking pictures of the aspen gold and the snow. Coming to the club to workout this morning, I noticed two bicyclists had stopped right by Memorial Hill to pick apples from a tree that was heavy laden with the most beautiful fruit. There's always something unusual to photograph around here.
If you win the home, you can go snap-shooting with me and teach me a few things. I'm strickly a beginner but it is so much fun!
I am counting the days to enter the giveway it is a spectacular home. I fell in love with the Vermont dream home and I could not let go but here I am I am in love again. I love HGTV and all the shows. I don't watch a lot of TV but when I do it's your shows that I watch and I love every one of them. It will be my 2nd time entering for the dream home I never entered for Urban Oasis nor the Blog Cabin because I (and so many of you) only wish that I have a chance to win the dream home, that is not much to ask is it?
I agree. I love all the HGTV home giveaway's but I'm pretty much "all in" with the Dream Home.
I love it too!!
Tell me about it. Once we get closer to the giveway I will start having dreams from thinking too much about it.
Mary, thank you for a new thread.
.
Beehive, You did force the issue. We usually don't know when the load – in day is and they tell us later.
Your pictures are so perfect but I think I missed the back views, were there any? Maybeit was just too
cold to get there. It sure looked like it. You are such a good friend to us – Amazing!!!
Linda, please have some southwestern accessories in the home. I do think many people would like it,
would you?
Dreaming of the Dream Home who me? Someone explain to , was it Lucyourdog who mentioned he
couldn't be here too much, that that is part and parcel of being on the blogs in the first place.
Hey Sandy, I didn't go for any back yard pictures because there were so many people around that day and I didn't want to intrude if they were photographing. Also, it was really snowy and wet and the grass is long back there and I thought to wait for a better, less busy day. It was so much fun just to see how many pictures I could get without actually going ON the DH property. Next week will be good weather and I'll sneak back there (oops, I hope Mary isn't reading this!) and get some updates for us. The wind is coming up now, I think we might get more weather this evening.
Wow great pictures! I love everything Linda Woodward does and my big wish ( besides winning the dream home) would be to have her come and do my house for me. I just don't seem to have the knack for decorating but I know what I like. I wish HGTV would have a contest with the winner getting a home makeover by Linda! Anyway, I will keep dreaming and looking forward to seeing what amazing things she has put into this house because I know it will be great.
We ran across this video of the Maine DH. Although many have probably seen this before Soney and I have not and enjoyed watching it very much. Linda W and Jack T make quite a team. Maine is really a beautiful state that is probably why they picked it for the 2012 Blog Cabin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUSaq0DhlR8&fe…
We have those "oreo" cows in Midway, they are called Dutch Belted Galloway's.
Ha Ha ! Now I know how we ended up with a 2012 Blog Cabin in Maine !! Jack wants some more of those LOBSTER rolls !!
Thanks for the link, Alice and Soney! I didn't know Linda W. had to fight so hard to get the outside trim painted red on the Maine DH, but I'm glad she prevailed — that trim really makes the house stand out! Belted Galloways are my favorite breed of cow — if I ever get a cow it will be one of those. They seem to be very popular — we had herds near us in both Colorado and here in Georgia (one of the houses on an annual Christmas tour in a nearby town has a small herd). And my husband studies crustaceans so he has a special fondness for lobsters, and not just because they taste good! xD
Thanks for that link! I had not seen that video before, and since Maine is the site for the Blog Cabin, it was fun to view it. I only have one complaint: it was a bit cheesy. The part where Linda "dies and goes to Heaven" and the Oreo cows being dipped in milk were a bit much. I would have preferred seeing more of the house. I do agree that the red windows were perfect.
Alice and Soney, this is off topic but I wanted to tell you I was just looking again at my Pendleton Fall Catalogue and if I win the Dream Home I'm going to bring in some Pendleton blankets. I just love love love them. I visualize your finger prints all over the windows at the Pendleton store!
We love the Pendleton blankets too. I don't think we posted this before. It looks like the American Indian People had a big influence on their company. http://video.ezinemark.com/pendleton-woolen-mills… BTW Mrs. Bee, Soney and I were wondering why you sent so many of your bees to Seattle. They were chasing us all over the yard yesterday and today. Poor things they are not honey bees and I don't know what kind of bees they are.
What a great video! I wish I had a Pendleton blanket, some day I will buy one.
I love youtube! Thanks, I bookmarked it so I could view the other Dream Homes too.
You might have seen this video clip before too but thought we would share it with you. This is a cute video clip of John Gidding. What a good sport he is. He even commented about how much fun he had being on their show. Read comments below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXaedzW5RqE&fe…
good good good for a laugh
After looking at Beehive's photos, I am wondering if that car parked in front of the garage is the one they'll photograph as the winning GMC when they do the 360 tours? In one of the photos, it looks like it doesn't have a license plate, so that's why I think it's for photos and the tour, as soon as they clear out the garage! We should take note of the color (black) so we can recognize it later.
Is this close to where you live Beehivestate? Wow we ran across this video. Utah is truly a beautiful state. Can't wait to see the vibrant colors Linda W will use to decorate the DH. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcBDZYmVwYk
Our Autumn Roses are still blooming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEHgjO4BNq0&fe…
WOW !! I've been so busy on DIY Blog Cabin that I haven't checked in on the Dream Home. It is fantastical !! Cannot wait for the tour & entries to begin !! HGTV has done it again !!
it looks like the house is 4 different buildings!
The intent is to look like a old farmhouse that has been added to over the years.
If you think that, then the architect achieved his vision. Great comment.
yeah he definitely did! It's massive!
Is it really going to take 50 days to get the video online?
Beehive,
Did you ever figure out what the deck off the back has in it? I think you said there is a hot tub off the game porch, and I was thinking the other deck would have some kind of gas fire pit surrounded by gravel or something. Thank you for all your efforts in keeping on top of things with the DH!
I haven't been down in there to look at the back for about a month. I think it's a hot tub on the game room end and I don't know what yet on the other deck but the opening looks smallish.
I have loved all of the past dream homes, but this one is horrible…..
A horrible looking home in a horrible area…ugh…..which exec allowed this idea to go ahead….yikes…
I’ll enter….yes….to sell it if I won…
But I doubt there’d be any buyers….
I do real estate for a living, this thing would sit on the market forever!
The California(wine country home)was perfect….as was the Florida home….
Colorado-acceptable….
But this home….I can’t even look at the pictures without a grimace.
Whoever approved this home idea should be fired.
This is the only dream home I haven’t wanted…..
With my luck….I’ll win it….ughh….and never be able to sell it.
I sure hope the offer a cash option.
Breath-takingly beautiful!
DAILY BUZZ. Today is a big day in Utah! It's the beginning of the random drawing to score tickets to the beloved Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. This year's presenters are Nathan Gunn, acclaimed American baritone, and Jane Seymour, British actress. Over a million people from all over the world will request tickets and I hope to be chosen this year. We've been twice and it is such a treat. The Tabernacle Choir is always magnificent and the setting is a sight to behold!
Please everybody cross your fingers for me! lol Unlike the HGTV contests, each household can only enter once for this drawing. I really really want to go to this!! Here's the press release… http://mormontabernaclechoir.org/images/misc/Chri…
Good luck ! The sound of all those voices must really produce some goosebumps for the audience. I always remember our top ten radio station playing the Choir's recording of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" along with all the top 40 hits.
Battle Hymn of the Republic is their signature song, LL. We attended one concert of the Choir outdoors on a summer's evening at Deer Valley and the audience sings with them and it literally gives you chills . The MTC is said to be "the best choir in the world"
I just saw John Gidding's facebook page — he's listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir right now! He said they will be singing a collection of songs from "Oliver", of all things. I hope he doesn't stand up during the performance and say, "Please sir, may I have some more?"
If you don't get tickets to the Christmas concert, don't forget you can go to Music and the Spoken Word the Sunday before Christmas. It's almost as good!
Thanks, Wishingforit! A friend has told me about the Sunday concerts and now that it's fall, the Choir is back in the Tabernacle so it would be even more special. I really appreciate you mentioning it. The Choir is one of the really special things about Utah. I wish everyone could have the experience of hearing them in person. Have a happy day!
Yep, I love the Tabernacle. Such history! And the cool thing is the performance is always FREE! You actually get to see the program twice – they run through the whole thing before the actual recording. And the Christmas decorations are a bonus, too. The choir practices on Thursday nights in the Tabernacle, and the practices are open to the public as well. http://www.mormontabernaclechoir.org/ This is the link to the Choir's website. Their schedule is listed and here is the link to other things going on on Temple Square. Lots of wonderful music and concerts, especially during the holidays — and don't forget the incredible light display http://lds.org/church/events/temple-square-events…
I've been to the Temple Square at Christmas and seen all the Nativity scenes, which is always beautiful. Never been into the Tabernacle, though, so that will be on my “to do” list for this holiday time. I love that everything is free, thanks for reminding everybody, because today somebody asked me how much does it cost if you get the tickets for the Christmas concerts? and they were shocked when I said that everything is free, all the events.
Drove past the DH yesterday (Monday), saw several cars out front and assumed there are people inside making beds, hanging art, and taking pictures for us all to see — hopefully, very very soon.
Yes, there are so many cars there now and that's why I haven't been around to take pictures. I don't want to get in the way or cause any difficulties by photographing. They tell us the video tours will be up on the 1st of December.
Maybe we can do both! Christmas comes on Sunday this year.
This is the best Dream Home yet!!!!
Well, I was just browsing when what do I see? Moving vans! Headed for the dream home. New Pics of the structure! A dramatic gathering storm. Yipeeeeeee! Now I'll read the posts. This is really looking beautiful…
granintx, are you watching the Rangers game tonight? We love baseball at our house!
My husband is the sports enthusiast. If he predeceases me, I am seriously considering "sending him off" with all sorts of sports paraphernalia. His favorite remotes will definitely pass to the "next world" with him. Yes. He was watching.
I picked up a childhood friend and my mother (96 years young, physically fit, and very sharp). We joined my sister and her daughter for a "girls night out evening" at a local seafood restaurant. We had an enjoyable evening filled with laughter and lively discussion of topics ranging from favorite shopping spots and meals to the potential collapse of the Euro. Just delightful!
All sports (except maybe NASCAR, Hockey, and Soccer) hold reverential status in my home. (Smile)
I plan on being like your mom when I'm lucky enough to be 96. Every day when I get up early to go to workout I say to myself "… it's for my future" and so I hope it is!
We watched the Cardinals last night. My husband is a huge St. Louis fan, so that's a given, although he did let me watch the Broncos on Sunday, even though the Cardinals were playing at the same time. He even cheers for the Cardinals when they play the Rockies, much to my dismay.
This year for once, not having the big-payroll teams in the hunt, it's more fun watching. I've pretty much given up on football, although I will occasionally watch the Broncos or the Seahawks. Once a Broncos fan, it's hard to give them up.
I know Mary just posted these awesome photos of the Dream Home on Thursday, but I'm wondering if it isn't time for Jack Thomasson to do a video with landscape architect Eric Lyman … maybe something about a kind of transitional approach from the surrounding meadow grasses that consciously limits the number of tall, vertical plantings in favor of ornamental grasses, mulch, and low maintenance, low profile indigenous shrubs and other plants.
Of course, any kind of information about the creative background and thoughts related to enhancing the curb appeal of the home as well as the use of natural materials such as hardwood floors, heavy old-style timbers and beams and plenty of stonework would be a bonus that Dreamers everywhere would really appreciate.
Ready when you are, HGTV!
gorgeous.
This home is absolutely amazing! Love it. I especially love the pic with the storm cloud that was great.
DAILY BUZZ. HEADS UP! Hey guys, this morning I just happened to flip back through the construction photos and I found some new that I had not seen before of the back yard, the grass lawn back there, the landscaping, etc. It was neat.
Dream Home Main page, the small picture. http://www.hgtv.com/about-us/hgtv-dream-home-2012…
Good catch, BHS! You are doing so much to get us your own photos, and then you found the photos that any of us could have been monitoring. I feel like we are sleeping on the job! Not you, though. I'm nominating you for Employee Of The Month!
It's fun to look at the landscaping happening each day on the time-lapse photos. They sure had a lot of workers putting those shrubs and that lawn in!
Thanks, Star Valley. I think Mary tried to sneak those in on us. I'm becoming very intuitive about the Dream Home, this morning I just had a "feeling" to check the construction pix again. I need to get over there, though, and get us some pictures of the NE corner.
Thanks for cluing us in, beehivestate! I enjoyed seeing the "instant lawn" appear.
I like how they used the lawn and how it integrates with the plantings and the surrounding meadow grasses. Thanks for the pix of the GH. You have a good eye.
Whoa, baby !! That is going to be a lot of lawn to maintain when the front yard is included–does the DH come with a greenskeeper ? ( All it needs is a driving range)….I hope they remember the Sonoma DH–did they not have a rain barrel or cistern collecting water for the garden ? Utah is a western state…..
It's finally “legal” to collect your own rain water in Utah! Go figure. Yes, definitely too much lawn for me but I guess that's the look they're going for. Probably have to get a yard service.

Hey, just wondering when will you be able to get over and see the GH again?
Not until the weekend before Thanksgiving — my hubby has a lot of travelling coming up, and then he has a big report due Nov. 15th. But we have our reservations for a night at the Inn at Serenbe, so I can let everyone know what it is like actually staying in style there! ^_^
Oh! I envy you, that will be so much fun.
Thanks for the update, Its nice to see the landscaping going in photos.
How odd. My link still works but when I went back on the DH Main page and clicked the small picture, there's no record of these new back-yard pictures. You can only use the link above. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
Just like watching the New Year's Eve clock countdown, I am anxiously awaiting Beehivestate's rating turn from 99p to triple digits. Will it be today? Tomorrow? Good luck, BHS, and we'll all blow horns and throw confetti when you reach that milestone! Thanks for being such a great blogger!!
Oh how funny. I predict next Sunday, and just for fun I might go get myself an ice cream at Scrappy's!! 99 is a good number!
She needs an extra 100 for being confronted by the brusque sentry guard, LOL.
I think he takes his job a little to seriously! It doesn't hurt to be friendly with the "locals".
He must have thought he encountered a Dangerous, Quilting- Granny, Dream Home fan terrorist…
lol
LOL, what a vision!
"Quilter Gets the Shot" I can just see the headlines on the Wasatch Wave next Wednesday. Better than quilter gets shot, I think.
LOL Hazardous blogging "pay" !!
Hi Wyoming, I've been sorely tempted to head out and take more photos just to turn the "odometer" over to100 but I've got this darn cold and my head feels like a balloon inside. Maybe next week. I'm still surviving on chicken soup and thank goodness for extra-soft Kleenex!
Did your first 6" snowfall melt off yet or is it too cold up there now?
I'm really surprised that you haven't clicked over yet. I think you just like Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 too much.
The snow stayed for about a week, but now it's all gone, except on the highest peaks. The aspen here are at their peak and gorgeous, as they probably are in Heber Valley.
So sorry about your cold. I am sure you are so miserable, although I suspect with your big heart you are more worried about exposing Lars to this! Maybe somebody else has posted about this, but I think we should all give you our favorite home remedies. I get my husband to make me green chile stew, because it has a lot of chicken broth in it, but the chiles seem to burn the cold out of me!
One last thing — I attended the Jackson Hole Quilt Show last week! I only went to the exhibit hall, but I was just amazed at the talents of so many people. I thought of you. Here's a question I have: so many really amazing quilts were made by people who described themselves as a Novice (the other choice was Master). I could not figure it out, because if they are Novices, I must be in the Fetus category or something. So, how does that work?
Hope you feel better soon!
It depends on the rules of entry. You get ribbons depending on the category you put yourself into for competition. I've judged many quilt shows and each is different. I wish I could've been there, you must have some amazing quilts in jackson Hole.. I would call "Master" someone who is in the business or has won a ribbon already as a novice. You can call yourself a beginner as long as you want to.
I think that green chili stew sounds good, I haven't had real good green chili anything since we used to go to the Morrison Inn in Colorado, I think Evergreen? I wonder if it's still there?
Hi beehivestate I finally decided as a last resort to try acupuncture. I don't like needles but I don't like taking lots of pills either. It was the best decision I have made to help with the pain. He is a well- known Doctor all over the world and just got back from teaching in London. I love the way he talks to his assistant in fluent Chinese and he isn't Chinese. This is a clip of one of the Doctor's tips for helping with a cold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6H4xE_gSjI&fe…
I am so seriously going to try making that ginger tea. I can almost smell it now! I don't know if there's any place around here I can buy the fresh ginger, maybe in Park City at the Whole Foods they have it. I'm glad the acupuncture helps you. I know of other people who have said the same as you, that it worked where nothing else had been effective for pain. Thanks for letting me know. you never know when these little tips might help somebody else.
Stowe Vermont seems so far away but I found some beautiful pictures of the winner's celebration
last April that must be seen to appreciate the joys of being a DH winner. Mary, if you are going to
zap this one out, at least let it stay long enough for all of the dedicated bloggers to share in a
beautiful experience.
http://llphoto.landwehrle.com/blog/2011/06/hgtv-d…
DeerSpring, so glad to see you back onboard! I love the link and the pictures, thank you for finding it for us. I'm overjoyed that this lovely couple was able to find a way to keep the Dream Home in the family. I hope everyone gets to see these wonderful pictures today!
Beehive, I am fascinated by your latest group of pictures especially the river view and the
one with the DH surrounded by the beauty of Utah's scenery. I'm glad to be onboard because
the months ahead will be fun with all of the lively discussions about the DH.
We missed you, DeerSpring! Did you have to delete your account and start over? Don't share the details if it will get you in hot water again, but we're glad you're back!
Your guess is as good as mine, Wyo. I was a little embarassed at being deleted but do not
know why since it was there for a few days before it happened. I'm over my initial red face
reaction now so decided to come back. I miss all of you and the blog is fun!
It IS fun and we're glad to see you again!
Thanks, Deerspring! Or maybe not, since you made me wistful for Stowe all over again! :S ^_^
CplusE, I know what you mean about wistful feelings. A little nostalgia slipped in when I first
looked at the pictures. This time next year we will be feeling the same way about the Utah
DH!
That very thought has crossed my mind. Enjoy it while it lasts. I guess I'm lucky not to have been "deleted" too.
Sounds like a life plan, Beehive. Enjoy it while it lasts before being "deleted"!:)
Deerspring, red face, deletions–none of it matters. You are an appreciated & integral part of the blog, and we love to read your posts and see the links you've researched. Speaking of–how did you find this one ? What an amazing experience for this couple–the photos make the trip look like a second honeymoon for them.
LL, thank you. I found this link while trying to remember the name of the photographer
of the framed photos in the Vermont DH. In other words, I just kind of stumbled
upon this link! I thought the photos had a "honeymoon" look, too.
Mary has posted new GH pictures:
http://www.hgtv.com/green-home/hgtv-green-home-20…
I think numbers 54 to 66 are the new ones. Windows are in, a wrap went around the house, and the siding is going up!
Cool pics of the Green Home as it comes to life, CplusE — and as you note, "windows are in, a wrap went around the house, and the siding is going going up," AND my new laptop is up too. It's a great day all around!
I'm expecting the new laptop I bought this morning will keep me right up to speed with all the goings-on in blogland while I'm off to foreign shores for awhile. After all, I certainly don't want to miss out on any important emails from HGTV or DIY about being a home sweepstakes winner. The old laptop will stay home, perhaps displayed on a shelf somewhere as a treasured antique. ^_^
Goodness, Coop, whatever will you do if you are out of the country and your name is selected as a winner for one of these homes? Will Terri keep the home fires burning, ready to accept the prize in your name? Perhaps she can use the old laptop to let you know if HGTV/DIY comes knocking at your door. That new laptop had better keep you in touch at all times just in case! ^_^
Just in case you've missed these 3 videos at the HGTVRemodels website — about the transitional landscape concept, the ideas that went into enhancing the Dream Home's curb appeal, and even some info about the wealth of natural materials and use of stone to bring nature and beauty into each room of the house. http://www.hgtvremodels.com/gmc-hgtv-dream-home-videos-p...
Thank you so much, DBCoop, for those three videos. I looked for something like that but couldn't find it. I really enjoyed the pictures, especially some of the "long shots" from top of the hill, same as i took for us the other day only in better weather. This was really a great find!''
Finally Jack says the house is in "the Heber Valley" but he still says the Heber Valley is in Park City… What will it take to get them to say Midway? lol Just a small nagging reminder, Jack! The Heber Valley is on the complete other side of the mountains from Park City.
I was kinda' jazzed to come across those 3 videos. I thought Mary would have directed us right to them, but in any event, they were posted in the public domain, so we might as well all enjoy them! The more the merrier … the sooner the better … waste not, want not … a bird in the hand, and, well, all those other things 'they' say!
As much as I was inspired by the "long shots", I'm equally impressed by the significant use of stone through the Great Room as well as around the exterior of the home. It definitely gives the Dream Home a feeling of "rock solid" permanence and a sense of belonging to the site.
I'm with you, I loved that one that showed the great room with that expanse of stone and the wood floor and the beams. Do you think those beams are the trestle wood?
Watching those videos of the black truck driving down River Road reminded me of the day you were there and you told us you saw a camera crew filming out the sunroof of a car, followed by a truck. Maybe that was it.
They are promoting that GMC Sierra so much I kinda wonder if maybe that's the vehicle that will be in the Dream Home garage? Trucks are really predominant out here in the west.
I thought about that particular day as well, beehivestate, when I saw them filming Jack driving down River Road and he waved as he drove by. (I'd already met him earlier) I looked to see if there was any trace of me wandering the roadside in the video, but I guess they made sure to edit it out, either to protect my identity, to alleviate the need to sign release documents for publicity purposes, or just because they wanted to delete any trace of that darn guy who messed up the filming by waving to Jack. ^_^
I'd say they wanted to protect your identity from intense debate.
They normally promoted the GMC truck on HGTVpro coverage of the annual HGTV dream home in the past, while promoting the GMC suv as part of the giveaway on HGTV.com. Now it looks like they've transitioned the HGTVpro coverage to HGTVremodels.com
Oh, I see. I haven't been blogging long enough to know how they do this. An SUV would be great with the Dream Home! Everybody out here has big SUV's and/or pick-ups. Partly it's the snow in winter and partly it's the big families. My Mormon friends call them (jokingly!) “Mormon Assault Vehicles!”
I love the videos Coop!! Thank you for posting them!
Hi Brenda, how's school going this month? Have you settled in yet?
I am tired of school, honestly. My business idea won't be productive here so I think I'm just going to get a job after May. Don't know what else to do. I need money to start it and don't have any. So I need to find a job. Alas, there aren't any jobs around here either.
This blog isn't about me, so sorry for the negativity.
That's okay, Brenda, I was just wondering. I hope you can figure out something to get on a good track. I admire your efforts. You are a go-getter!
Thanks for the links, Coop — I just love seeing the progress on this house! Here is a link to the landscape architect's page about the DH:
http://ealyman.com/?page_id=62
Not much yet, only a small drawing of the landscape plans, but they say that more info is coming soon!

Thanks. I like all this stuff.
Nice to see the videos… Thanks for the link!
By the way, I caught a glimpse of the artist rendering (online of course) of the 2012 Dream Home Rose Parade float — with it's deep fall landscape colors of reds, rust, purple, yellows and shades of green and blue-greens, along with the requisite snow on the rooftop and about the grounds — even some billows of smoke from the chimney — which means this float is bound to be another trophy winner for HGTV.
Be careful, Coop. When DeerSpring posted that link earlier on this blog, her account was deleted. Sometimes they don't want us sharing the info ahead of time, for some reason.
Thanks for the reminder, Wyo_Girl. I was aware of the "incident" and that's one reason why I didn't post a link this time. It can be a little tricky when you know "too much" whether by accident or by design, and sometimes I choose not to post information or links that might reveal too much too soon. It's not always a plus to be the first with breaking news in the blogs, so I try to be judicious about what I'm uncovering. After all, it's not nice to scoop Scripps Networks!
We thought we would share our Stormy weather with you. We enjoy listening to this song. Bring back that sunny day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p_deqVPR-w&fe…
Great one! Here's an oldie that I used to really like, by The Weather Girls… Stormy Weather.. .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGLZqDXau98&feature=player_embedded
That was a great band…when we get close to Hallowe'en, we will have to do a link to their song, "Spooky" —that was another of my favorites. Thanks, alice !!
I haven't been posting in awhile, because I've been over on the Blog Cabin blogs
I love this home! It's super gorgeous. I can't wait for the virtual tour!!!
