December 1 is fast approaching as is our online virtual tour. Wait till you see the sunset shots we captured.

Thank you so much Mary!
DAILY BUZZ. THURSDAY. How cool to come home and find a new picture! It's all good. I'm happy they didn't do the divided bunk room upstairs, an extra guest suite will be so versatile. And I love the solar panels (already spotted them last week) and the audio system is going to be so great. Now I'd like to know what's going on at the Dream Home today b/c this morning when I drove by, there were about 30 cars out front, two white big party tents, and a buzz of activity. I just came by again on the way home and everyone is still there, so we know where the party is but what's going on?! And why wasn't I invited, Mary?! lol
They forgot to invite several people. lol
Ditto on the bedroom rather than the bunkroom.
I wonder if this was the press event, where reporters and such are invited to preview the home before the big reveal. I remember pictures of a similar event at the Stowe DH. Where's your press pass, beehivestate — you deserve one after all the info you've provided on this blog! xD
The only “pressing” I've been up to lately is at the gym!
beehivestate, You should have stopped and told them who you are! You're the "Major 2012 Dream Home Blogger". They should know who you are! Thank you for all the up dates and pics.
Hey HGTV and Mary, invite beehivestate to one of the shindigs at the DH. She will be so happy!
You got that right, SweetLiz! I get shivers and just thinking about the possibility makes me happy today!
Not only will she be happy, but since she has been so kind about sharing all her info with us, we'll be happy right along with her. Well informed, and happy, thanks to beehivesgate's daily buzz, and bee's eye view photos.
I liked the idea of a "bunkroom" 'cause I've got 7 Grandkids!! But there'll be enough bedrooms in the house that I can break up the gang and maybe they'll get some sleep. Thanks for the Daily Buzz beehive and I really really think you should of been invited to the goin's on at the DH.
No bunk room? Wow! Wonder if they are using Murphy bed systems in the game room to maximize recreational utilization of that space. My experience with grandkids is at the end of "their" day…..the girls are in one room; boys in another. However, they are traveling from room to room all during the night. The next morning, generally, the younger ones (and some of their parents) will end up sleeping wherever sleep overtakes them.:) The older ones sometimes need more privacy. I can't wait to see what Mary and the architects have done to accommodate a multi-family gathering or most of my 13 grandkids.:)
Wow, 13 grandkids! That's a lot, unless you are from Utah, of course! In which case, it's just about average.
Wow , I keep loving this home more every day. If I was lucky enough to win it would be the first time I have ever been to Utah or anywhere out west. I have only had one vacation in my life and I would love to try living in another state. I am not much for heat so Utah sounds perfect. As far as the bunk room goes, I prefer it as a guest suite. I think kids have fun in sleeping bags and if the person that wins the home would like more then one child to share the room then they could put bunks in themselves. Way to go HGTV! Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to the tour and to entering in January. Until then I will keep on dreaming!
Yes,Ladny—whoever is the winner will have a home that is furnished a certain way–it does not mean the furniture or arrangements have to stay that way! I love Linda W."s designs, and half the fun for me is imagining how I would change things around, LOL. Good luck to you when the contest begins.
And Mary, I forgot to thank you for the peek at the upstairs guest room. You answered the one question I had about the house and the floor plan and I appreciate the knowing. I'm so glad Linda went away from that bunk room plan, this will make it way more versatile as a rental property, too.
Last year's DH already had a bunk room, and that made it appealing to some families, but to me it made the house more suited as a ski rental, rather than a home.
I was thinking of four couples renting the house, therefore the four bedroom suites would be a plus. It will be fun to see what they do with the game room.
Where are these pictures posted Beehivestate?
Okay, Brenda. Go to the paragraph under the picture of the lamp and click on the blue "HGTVremodels.com" link and it'll take ya there. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
It only shows little pictures of the extras in our house. Is that what I am supposed to see? lol
Brenda, click on the corner of the picture and it will enlarge a little bit. The colors of the guest room remind me of Linda's take on the Stowe house master bedroom with the checks and grays.
Am I just missing everything you are seeing?
Yes! You must have low blood sugar. Take two cupcakes and call me in the morning. LOL
Thank you, Dr. beehive. I've taken your wise advice — consumed two cupcakes — and my blood sugar is humming right along now, so no follow-up call necessary!
Glad to hear it, no charge.
I guess I'd better get an iPhone to make the music work in our house.
lol
Glad to know I'm not the only one without an iPhone.
Those pictures are great! I cannot wait until December 1st!!!
Thanks Mary, the new pictures are wonderful.
Naturally, how happy one is with the bunk room to guest room change depends on the family situation, but in my case, it suits me fine. Actually, I think it provides more options for the space. Easier to add bunk beds or whatever one desires than to take on a complete remodel of the space in order to repurpose the room. It could be another great area for multi-tasking, or whatever your heart and lifestyle might require.
And who wouldn't be thrilled with home's solar panels and OnQ home audio sound system. Or nature's very own soothing outdoor sound system in the form of the Provo River.
It just goes to prove that this Dream Home is More Than Midway to Paradise!
I was thinking that maybe I would change my Intense Debate name to "OnQ"–it might give me a cooler, cutting -edge aura—unless you would like to change your I.D. name to ONQ, LOL.
Go for it, LLColeman. I think OnQ would be a great screen name — and you'll be the coolest of the cool. Don't worry about me. I'm thinking of changing my ID sign on name to Someone Else! (Maybe that will improve my chances of winning this Dream Home…!)
If everyone starts changing their screen name, no one will know who everyone is. :p
Who's on first?
Abbott or Costello.
Coop, you & Cami might have to flip a coin for that screen name, lol.
Hmm, you could be right about that, LLColeman. How about 'Someone Else' and 'Someone Else 2? Who knows, when the big day comes, any one of us could become Someone Else!
See what I mean!! =/
Don't they have enough guest beds on the first floor?
Three things you can never have too many of: chocolate, guest rooms, and chocolate!
In my case, I like a private area devoted to my computer desk, files, small library and comfortable reading spot, and for that, the master bedroom sitting area is ideal. Then there needs to be a quiet, cozy room for conversation, music, afternoon tea or cocktails. The smaller downstairs bedroom, with just minor alterations in furnishings, fits the bill. Follow that with a gathering, party and game room with TV and wet bar, and a convenient upstairs guest bedroom with bath — and the left wing of the house would serve those purposes admirably. Once you factor in the separate ensuite guest room at the right wing of the home, add in an easy arm's reach access to a tempting array of chocolates and gorgeous views from every room, then neatly balance the left and right wings (always politically correct, besides being supremely functional) with a central kitchen, dining and family room, this Dream Home will suit me perfectly.
Thanks for keeping me in mind, HGTV, when designing the Midway Dream Home! ^_^
And I could be your cook and your baker!!!
There you go! You could have the upstairs guest room for your "quarters"
While I'm thinking about it, I read an article this morning that said entries for Dream Home 2012 start on the 29th December, 2011. Well, so far, I've seen the dates 30th and 31st December in print as well. Seems to be a moving target, but I'm sure when the Sweeps info/rules are posted, we'll get that date nailed down. Plenty of time for that!
And now back to our current dilemma: is bunk or guest best?
My vote is for guest as best, because bunk seemed to put more people into a funk.
When in doubt, go with the rhyme.
Coop,They did change the date to the 29th somewhere on this website& A guest
room is good if it sleeps 2 or more.
And easier to convert into a studio since it won't have that bathroom in the middle.
Thank you Mary. No bunk room is A-Okay with me. The room may be repurposed by the new owner anyway, and I'm guessing there isn't a clairvoyant on staff at HGTV to view into my mind–so the DH interior will be designed to my liking. That's ok I'll have my own plans in hand when I move in.
I love the high tech sound system. Will I be able to interrupt the usual program to invite everyone for dinner, or to tell everyone to clean up their rooms? Or to get current location and status updates of everyone in the home? I guess I could just check their facebook status.
I'm also excited about the energy/money saving system. A Dream Home isn't quite as dreamy with a large electric bill.
Keep the pics and exciting info coming Mary, the Dream Home is a bright spot in this weary world.
There is plenty of sunshine in Midway, winter and summer, so the solar grid ought to supply most all of the electrical needs.
I LOVE our house!!
And everything that goes with it!!
Seriously, you love everything and for that alone, you will be a great neighbor. And then there's the cupcakes… hmmm…
I don't "love" snakes, or the way my "boyfriend" treats me. lol Did I really put them in the same sentence? Oh, I crack myself up sometimes!!!
Okay, will give you that cracking-self-up thing!
I love the plant in that picture! I bet it smells pretty too. Does anyone know what kind of plant that is?
I have two cats, so I doubt it would last only a few minutes in my house.
That's maybe a freesia? Just a guess. Probably artificial, though.
The base of the plant looks like an orchid (Linda's favorite plant), and like beehivestate said it's likely artificial. Orchids seem to have an elegant presence in a room, so I see why Linda likes them.
I'm sure it'll make a durable cat toy, as long as they don't tear it to shreds. Just let them know it's for casual use only.
Definitely an orchid, probably a Dendrobium, and almost certainly artificial! ^_^
okay with the orchid, I had that thought after I said freesia. BTW, real orchids do quite well here, although that one is probably a silk.
It looks real!
http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20…
It's been awhile since I looked at the floor plans. Starting to dream about my future home again.B):)
Good idea. The upstairs back bedroom suite will be just like the floor plans. I like it ever-so-much.
I thought they would really have to struggle to beat the house in Stowe, but the more I see of this house the more I see they have already outdone that house and between the house and the scenery this house could be one of the best they have ever built.
Thank you for the lovely sneak peeks, Mary! Of course you know this only makes us eager for more — December 1st can't come soon enough! ^_^
The Dream Home is going high-tech!! The Global Development Group has a picture of the DH under
construction on its web site with the caption, "Win a Green Home!". Solar panels and Pella energy-
efficient windows are the hint of green we've seen so far. Now a high-tech On-Q audio system
tops the list!
The transformation of the bunk room to guest suite shows the versatility of the rambling ranch
home. It's definitely easy to see what draws 80,000 to 100,000 people to visit Midway during
Swiss Days. Now with some of the area's skiing resorts opening or scheduled to open
in the next weeks ahead there's a brand new attraction to this charming European-influenced area. If I'm gushing and slushing today it's because I've been looking at videos of ice castles and downhill skiing!
Midway is all that and more!
Thanks for all the new pictures, Bee! I checked out the ice castles in Midway on videos.
I found out that many people initially are drawn to your area by events like Swiss Days and
the ice castle displays but then end up falling in love with the charm of the town and its
beautiful setting!
When we say we live in Midway, people who have been here always smile and say how lucky we are!
Because of Ms. Beehive's photos, the location of this home has "grown on" many of us. Now, each reveal just heightens and deepens the intensity of the love and desire each of us feels for this home. Not winning this home would be a 21st century tragedy for us — one of monumental proportions. Like many of you, I am passionately in love with this home and I am being a real good girl, because it's the #1 item on my current Christmas list.:)
Great news! Thanks for the update!
So glad to make time to drop back by this blog…what a lovely distraction this beautiful home and the awesome exterior views are! Will look forward to all updates. We need to keep dreaming. To be too personal: I'm going through a painful divorce, so having pleasant, pretty things like the HGTV Dream Home to follow is really a blessing. Thanks HGTV and fellow bloggers.
I know what you mean about going through challenges of one sort or another– I agree about the draw of this site. I hope you will go through healing soon, as you move through that process.
Don't you love the abundance of barns in the Midway area ? <3
LL, I've been photographing all the barns for the last month or so. It is so much fun! There is a huge red barn right in the middle of Midway and yesterday in Wallsburg there were so many red barns. I think I have over 70 or 80 pictures of different barns around Heber, Midway, Charleston and Wallsburg.
redbarnartist, this might be just the place for you!
Thank you for the new picture! Didn't know if I could make it until December 1 and the great feast of the virtual tour of "the entire home???"
I want to take a time out to thank whoever it is I should thank…for the wonderful workshops in architecture: the plinth, the juliette balcony, the venting system in the rafters of the great room, the baffling, etc. That has been a pleasure to follow and learn. Please keep this feature in future dreamhomes. It has been fascinating.
Oh, and EVERYONE wins and can keep the knowledge and the pleasure.
I love that stuff too, who knew it could be fun to learn about load-bearing walls! lol
Love the solar panels and what you decided to do for the bedroom space! Thanks for giving us glimpses of this beautiful home!
It is so great to start my day with a new blog and such interesting information. As with many of you, I am so glad that the bunk room has been "debunked" and we are going with another guest suite. I can imagine that the winner of this beautiful home will not be lacking in guests, so that's a plus. The bunk room has been done, and if I recall, it wasn't a huge hit last year in Stowe. Most people were just sharing plans to remodel that space.
The sound system looks truly amazing, and I would have to update my iPod big time if I lived there! I also like the use of solar, and those panels really blend into the roof well. Sometimes people have to sacrifice architectural beauty to have solar panels, but not in this case. Thanks, HGTV, for making Green a thing of beauty!
Oh, and Happy Veteran's Day, everyone. Thanks to all of you who have family members that served our country!
Hi Wyoming, I'm with you, I like to start my day with the blog. The solar panels are very unobtrusive on the back side of the roof. It's great foresight that HGTV gave us these energy-saving features. Do you have snow on the ground? We're expecting a substantial storm over the weekend but nothing yet, it's too warm.
We got SO much snow yesterday, Midway! It snowed about 6-7 inches during the day, then when we got up this a.m., we had about 7 inches more. Over a foot of snow is on our ground right now, and it's still snowing. My lab is upset that we haven't had a w— (I can't say "walk" around her, so we always just say the letter, LOL) in two days. Yesterday we drove about 20 miles to the local high school to judge the speech meet there, and the roads were a bit tough to negotiate. Right now, the hubby is outside with the heavy duty snowblower so we can get out of our driveway! No need, though, as we'll just hunker down and see if the Broncos can build on a one-game winning streak! Have a good day, and stay warm!
We didn't get any snow to speak of. It's gray and partly sunny, more rain in the air than snow.
Our son's dog starts jumping around and barking if she even sees us putting on our shoe-s or getting the baby ready for outside walk. Dogs are so funny. We don't say "walk" around her either.
One more thing: HGTV Remodels says that they changed the bunk room but "A children’s slumber-party space has been incorporated in the family room." On the floor plans, there is a Great Room and there is a Living/Game Room. I don't see a Family Room. I think they're probably referring to the Game Room. What do the rest of you think?
Oh, and thanks, Cami, for providing the floorplan link again.
Same thing, I think.
<3 the 2012 HGTV Dream Home features shown….
DAILY BUZZ. VETERANS DAY. 11/11/11. Happy Veterans Day all. I passed by Memorial Hill this morning and they are having some kind of event at the top. Since Mary just gave us "New Info to Chew On," I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at our favorite little coffee place in Midway. Many things are closed today and people are home, so maybe you have time to look. If you come here for tours of the Dream Home, please please drive down to Midway Main Street and have a coffee and pastry at this wonderful place! When we first came here, this building was a Montessori School and I believe the site is on the National Register of Historic Places. I did not annotate the pictures this time, so just take it as a slide show. Hope you like it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/
BeaUTiful pictures, Beehivestate!!!! Everything looks like FUN!!! Can't wait to go downtown with you!!!:)
And I can't wait to give you "the tour." Win or not, you must come for a visit next year. Today we went to this little town called Wallsburg, to the southeast of the Deer Creek Reservoir. Pretty much "out in the sticks," but we got some pictures of old farmhouses and there was an old school or "county" building that said "1904" and an old store that said "1919 to 1958," lots of wild turkeys in the fields, mule deer, horses and cattle, flocks of sheep, old barns. I will have to research this area, too, as it must have been at one time a thriving community to have such a large school building. I also want to go back and walk through the cemetery and see what is the oldest gravestone I can find. It was a pretty day, in the 50's and sunny. We expect snow tomorrow and Sunday.
I just looked up Wallsburg and the highest census year was 1900 when they had 584 people in town! I am searching for a book called "How Beautiful Upon the Mountains: A Centennial History of Wasatch County" and when I find it, I will be really happy!!
Maybe HGTV/DIY will want to help convert the old school bldg. into a cool new residence, keeping the charm but new electrical and plumbing–then how about another giveaway ?
Well, there WAS a for sale sign on it.
They may just take you up on that LLColeman!!
I can see it as a new program: rural oasis… complete with wild turkeys in the yard.
LOL, "Wild Turkey Oasis"-(–and NOT the liquid form of Wild Turkey). B)
Oh you're right, why didn't I think of that?
So if Mary gives us another sneak peek next week, what room would you like to see next (except for all of them)??
I'm torn between wanting to see the master, the family/living rm, the kitchen, the outdoor living room, the dining room…. ok maybe I just want to see them all too.o.0
I would love to see the kitchen!!!
I agree that I would love to see the kitchen next.
Give me pictures of the great room please.
I am in debate over the kitchen and the master bedroom! I would spend most of my time in BOTH rooms, I am sure. One to sleep in (of course!) and one to have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in and bake red velvet cupcakes for Beehivestate and anyone else who wants to join us!!
okay then, Brenda, the kitchen it is… although i must confess dreaming last night that I was sleeping in that master bedroom and looking out at the stars… maybe Mary will give us a peek at both.
I'm really excited to see the reveal on December 1st. What I've seen so far is fabulous. Now if only I could see the videos that are posted on the remodel websight. they have thumbnails of the completed kitchen and master bath but the videos won't play. How could you tease me like that.:p
I know when i saw those videos i was excited, until it was just the location video.
Oh i found new videos, just look at GMC videos they are there.
The globe on the glass lamp reflects the interior of the room, I can make out 4 windows, and wonder if the photographer is the tannish blob in the middle. Mary is that you? Come a little closer, this is like a gypsy looking into a crystal ball, but the message is so cloudy.
I thought this was a reflection of the great room but the URL says it's the changing room. Laundry room?HGTV/2011/11/03/02-DH2012_Changing-Room-Lamp-Flowers_s4x3_lg.jpg
Perhaps a table set just outside the laundry room?
It was nice of Mary to give us a glass reflection of an actual room.=/
The image does say changing room, but the floor plan doesn't show a "changing room."
My thought on the discrepancy is this room is probably part of a bathroom suite in the former bunk room/now guest room. The number of windows seems right.
Considering the size of the lamp and proportion, I thought of it being in a small space. What's a changing room anyway?
In this case, it might be the bedroom over the game room that has changed from a children's bunk bedroom to a guest room! Well anyway, that's one definition of a changing room literal as it may be.
Personally, I'd put a changing room next to the washer, and dryer for quick clean up of muddy riverwear.
Then again, it could be a baby diapering area.
Beehivestate, I guess by now, you've realized I don't really know what a changing room is tithe, I'm so confused, but in a good way. LOL
I think you're right on! It's probably near the mudroom entrance. I never thought of that. Good one! Then again…
There is def. a photographer reflected in the glass bubble lamp. I love the lamp–maybe the photographer is a Genie ?
Beehivestate!! I discovered that there is a quilting store in town where I go to college!!! So many pretty ones hanging on the wall and NONE of them are for sale!
Imagine that! I asked if they sell them already finished, and she said (very seriously), "Oh, no! These are just to give you ideas for you in making your own quilts!" I laughed to myself, thinking, "yeah, right! I can hardly sew a button on a shirt!"
Some day you may have time and inclination to make your own quilts, until then you can appreciate and dream. Meanwhile, the BF that doesn't treat you good? …. OUT WITH HIM!
If it were only that easy (about the BF). I think I need to move away and not tell him where I'm going.
And when it happens, he shouldn't be surprised. He already thinks that I will get a good job after graduation and move. YAYYY!!!! I pray that happens!!!!
Very glad they didn't do the bunk room, as we don't have kids (yet) but it would make for a great guest suite for family or friends. I really can't wait to see the rest of the house!!! Just a curious QUESTION for everyone…..if YOU win, what will you do with the house? Personally, we would move into it, we live and work in the area and would love to have a home, especially one that is so great!!
Thank you Bee for you latest pictures. The colors are so vibrant and beautiful. This video is a family having so much fun from Park City to Midway. They did an excellent job on this video and just like your pictures the colors are vibrant and beautiful. Thought we would share a family having fun together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytrTV_PURWs&fe…
Nice family. I think the last pictures were at Huber Grove at Wasatch Mountain St. Park and that they drove across Guardsman Pass from Park City to Midway.
Thanks to all the Veterans out there, we appreciate your efforts to keep us safe.
I enjoyed looking though Bee's glorious slideshow of the Hebert/Midway/Park City area and our Dream Home. I had time to review the "construction package" Mary had posted previously. There was one picture that just did not fit the floor plan as much as I tried to place it. http://www.hgtvremodels.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream… Photo 3
With Mary's post today revealing the change to the Bunk Room and the hint of slumber party accommodation in the Family room, I think the mystery photo has been resolved to be an undocumented room under the stairs next to the family room which perhaps stores the bedding for the party and not inconsequently access to the crawl space mechanical room. A door has been added into the Family room and walls have been removed/modified to make this 'room under the stairs' happen. I don't think the area could be a bunk room per se without a window. Maybe the closet opening off the Family is a bunk bed with doors and the area under the stairs is now for storage. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Hi Jay, quite awhile back they told us that space would be like a child's playhouse, complete with a door. Maybe that's part of the sleep-over space.
Surprises await the winner!!!
Yes, I think they have gone to a lot of trouble to disguise some features so we'll be surprised on Dec 1! Good post.
Are the roads there kept pretty clean in the winter or is it very dangerous driving because of all of the snow. I am sure whoever wins the dream home would need a lawnmower that a scoop can be put on to move snow in the driveway.
You will probably hire a service to remove snow from your own driveway here. The main road is River Road and it is always clear, even on the stormy days. It's winter driving but not "dangerous," if a person uses good judgment. Most of us drive SUV's that are good in snow.
thank you so very much beehivestate – I knew you would know – I come from Indiana so I understand winter driving but we do not have the mountains like in Utah – do most people hire snow removal services there?
If you have a big driveway, like at the Dream Home, it's wise to hire it done. Many people have a snow blower and do it themselves (we do). I'd say it just depends on your circumstances. If I we win the DH, I'm hiring a service!
There may be one or two snowstorms a year where we can't get around town but not often. The greatest problem would be getting to Park City from Midway, as the highway goes over two high places and that can be treacherous.
I think River Meadows Ranch will probably have snow removal as part of the HOA fees b/c the road to the upper properties will be impassible without it.
Did anyone else notice the "Video" link on hgtvremodels.com? There are 2 new ones that won't play yet, but you can see thumbnails of the kitchen and master bath. The bath is beautiful, but the kitchen looks pretty plain. I hope there's more to it when they let us see the video.
Can you give us the link? I can't find it at all.
I can't find it either!
http://www.hgtvremodels.com/hgtvremodels-building…
Thank you Meredith, I did finally find it but not under that link. I also posted the link to the vid on what's behind the drywall, very interesting.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, holiday shopping lists to be made, and December's winter celebrations on the horizon, it was bound to happen any moment.
And so it has, thanks to a festive opening salvo of photos and articles from HGTV's FrontDoor.com website to get us in the holiday spirit — http://www.frontdoor.com/buy/10-christmas-crazy-t…
What a great start to the season!
I can't wait to see Midway and the Dream Home added to this joyful list of winter scenes.
And Midway has "Swiss Christmas" the first weekend in December in the "new" refurbished and historic Town Hall.
WOW,all you bloggers have been busy bees ;finding G.M.C. & hgtvremodles videos,MissBee's pic.s ect…As soon as I'm done cleaning ovens & such for the up coming holidays,I'll try to check them out.
Thanks,Ways
DAILY BUZZ. SATURDAY. redbarnartist, this one's just for you! http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/sets/72…
What? Too many barns for you?
Sooooooo pretty!!! I love them!!!
I know you weren't talking to me!
Thanks for the plus! I thought I was being conservative, I actually have many more pictures than that.
We can never have too many barns !! I will have to alert ruffybc over on the DIY blog, in case she hasn't seen these. I LOOOVE the mountain backdrop behind the barn in Charleston, and the one with the horse is so sweet.
Mary, I just thought of a question that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Will the home have a built-in soft-water system? We have very hard water in Midway and most of us have a system installed so that our appliances and clothes are protected. We got ours from Water Science in Park City (hope I can mention that?). If not, the lucky homeowner can easily have it retrofit. Thanks again, it's so much fun to get these little tidbits about the Dream Home.
I took down all my pictures of the Dream Home and combined them in one set on flickr.com so if there's anything you guys want to see or if you'd like to review the pictures from Sept. to November, here they are for the last time, all in one place. My flickr page was getting too cluttered. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/sets/72…
LOVE IT!!!!!
Thumbs up to you Bee we love your Red Barn pictures. All your beautiful pictures. Wish that thumbs down person would get a life. Anyway your red barns prompted us to look for red barns. Here is what we found. Mary is even singing about red barns. Sometimes in a kidding fashion some here call her Mean Mary but she isn't mean at all. This song is a combination of the DH the GH and future Hawaiian Dream Home all rolled into one. Sing on Mary! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX-SeEf2P-o
Didn't you just love those baby chicks? Thanks.
That was so much fun, Alice and Soney! I loved it! I will have to check out more of Mean Mary's music, as I had never heard of her before. This blog is a great place to find new and interesting information — and maybe I should change my name to barnyardqueen (I like it and it certainly fits!). xD
She's very talented and funny! Thank you for sharing this!!
It's been FOREVER since I posted!! Anyway, thanks for posting this Mary!!
I can't wait!
Since it is a cold and wet and rainy day here in Seattle Soney and I have a little time on our hands. We decided to take a sneak peek at Thailand hope you don't mind DBCoop. You have been talking about all their good food so we wanted to see for ourselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTe0RR80gyY&fe…
Yummy local food spots, alicesoneysmom. Also, don't miss The Red Onion in Karon. Authentic Thai food and SO reasonable. It's a really popular dining spot for farangs (foreigners) in Phuket.
On to Bangkok this afternoon for me.
Sawasdee krup, fellow dreamers!
I envy you! It all sounds heavenly.
Does that mean you're on your way home Coop? I hope so. Safe flight.:)
I'd love to see a really chic kitchen this year, like the ones you see on all the HGTV programs like HouseHuntersInternational, or the more expensive properties. The funnel shaped range hood in the middle of the kitchen area, all shiney and coppery, also being used as a room divider. Chic, airy, and spacious.
I guess, with the great room next too it, though, and it being a showstopper space, the kitchen pizzaz might be tamped down a bit…we'll see
I'd like to see a farmhouse sink in the kitchen, a big pine table for the diningroom, and a spacious island.
That's what it SHOULD be!!!
Did you see the kitchen photos on DeerSpring's blog find? It wasn't what I was expecting.
Agree, I was surprised and I've even had a peek through the window with my Nikon.
Wyo–absolutjn was pretty prophetic…other spaces will have the showstoppers, I guess… it is only a concern because kitchens hold so much value in terms of real estate;( it is certainly a huge upgrade from the kitchen I use now !!) Just not what's expected for a DH.
I do not get the appeal of the sleek Euro cabinets in a rustic setting like Midway's. Pickled white stain or painted white wood could be clean-lined, if they need light colors; it does not have to look like Ma Kettle designed it. …but there needs to be a warmer surface next to all the stone, IMO. And it is bugging me that upper cabinets seem to cry out for glass fronts…
I like it but it's not what I thought they would do. I will reserve judgment until I see the finished product in the big reveal. Linda always has the way. I already had figured that the kitchen/dining was a smaller space than they had last year. I like glass front cabinets, too.
I agree with the glass fronts!! That would be better.
Gorgeous. I have Windsor chairs like that, mine are Ethan Allan, though. These Thomas Moser chairs are prettier than mine, I think. Both are classic farmhouse.
Just finished eating an early Thanksgiving Dinner with my children! My oldest can't come back for Thanksgiving, so we had it today! Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean cassarole, gravy, crock pot corn, and Hawaiian rolls!!! Delicious!!!
Did you have a pie? I love apple pie.
We share something I also love apple pie.
Best apple pie ever is at the Foundry Grill at Sundance. They serve it with salted carmel vanilla ice cream!!
Yummmmmm!
Pies are one thing I have NEVER attempted. I am not a pie person, BUT I will try to make one for you when I am there.
That's okay, just make me a cake. I do a good job on pies.
We could spend an entire day together baking!!! How does that sound?
No I don't think so, I don't really like to cook. I only do it under duress, such as for Thanksgiving dessert lol. But if we are going to be cooking in the new DH kitchen, I will be happy to sit at the island and cheer you on and be the official taster.
Yes, THAT we can do!!! Just you being there with me would be a treat!
OK, I have been trying to perfect my apple pie. Do you make your crust with lard or butter?
I make it with corn oil. I have a recipe that I got many years ago from the 7th Day Adventist Hospital in Denver. The apples are mixed with apple juice concentrate/cornstarch and the crust is half whole wheat pastry flour. You roll out the crust between sheets of wax paper. We like it.
I attempted to get a look at the house today. Luckily, it's really close to the road, so I had no trouble finding it, but getting close to it was tough because a security guard chased me off! Beautiful house though. The pictures definitely don't do it justice. Especially with all the snow on it!
Go up to the fishing parking lot at the north end of the property. Park and walk the path along the river and you will soon come to the back of the house. Also, drive up the hill to the upper lots of the development and you get a good view. You can't do much right in front, LeRoy Brown is ever vigilant.
I'll have to do that next weekend, if it's not snowing of course. I love all of the pictures you have posted on Flickr. Especially the one of the black cow that scares the pants off of me every time I drive passed it.
We call him “Rocco” and say “Cowabunga!!” every time we drive by! I had to put him in the photo set. He's a landmark.
If it's snowing, call on me and I'll "guide" you!! By the way, I assume you know Russ Watts (co-owner of The Store)? Well, yesterday I saw him at The Fit Stop waiting to sign up for a Cross Fit class. I hope he made it, it's pretty tough. Probably I'd die on the spot so I stay away from that area.
I've met Russ once. It was my first time up in Midway by myself to see my Grandma's house, (which Russ's company built, I found out last weekend). Love my Gram to death, but her directions suck, and I found The Store first because I had been there before and Russ offered to have me follow him to her house. I didn't take him up on the offer cause my Grandma came to find me, but I just remember that random act of kindness. He probably doesn't remember that though. lol. It's not that I wouldn't be able to find it, I just wouldn't want to walk in a snow storm beehive!
Ps, Previously, I have had a few explicit words for the cow when I thought he was real, but I've learned to love him.
Thanks, Cami. Now I'm driving all around the area taking pictures of properties on the National Register of Historic Places for Wasatch County. I find the listing and take the picture but unless I can get the house number IN the photo, I can't remember which house is which unless I would stop and take notes. Anyway, it's fun and I'm learning about our area and I use my little camera almost every day now.
You are making many of us want to move to Midway area, or at least spend tourist $$ there. Really, the Chamber of Commerce should give you a plaque or erect a statue in your honor!
She would make a great model for a statue!!
I'm dying here, Brenda!! LOL I could be holding a cupcake!
Great idea!!! I know an artist who can scupt you! Then we can put it in the center of downtown Midway!!! Have a sign saying "Here is a wonderful woman who risked life and limb to bring the HGTV bloggers beaUTiful pictures of the 2012 Dream Home and the great community of Midway!"
That's so funny, BrendainKs — "risked life and limb"!
Put the statue at the top of Main street between the quilt shop (Seasons of Home) and the bakery (Midway Country Corner). That way we have the symbolism of my two favorite things… quilting and eating!
I second that remark!!!
Actually, I don't need a statue. I'll take a cake instead. It's more anonymous that way! Unless it was just a generic bronze statue of a grandma, that would be fun. They can use Larson for the child model. He's cute enough that he could'a been in that HGTV commercial, except for the part with the toothpaste!
AND cakes are less expensive. But if I talk nice to this artist, he may give me a discount!
Maybe he'd like a trip out to Midway.
I am sure he would try!!
Have you ever wondered who the people are in the DH commercials? There's new photos (interior!)
and information about the whole process!!!
http://keddingtons.blogspot.com/2011/11/hgtv-comm…
Oh my goodness thank you for finding this we got to see the interior before HGTV was ready to show us. I love everything so far, awesome. Mary can't keep up with us anymore. WOW:D
Albbora, I was really surprised to find the photos of sections of three of the rooms and an outdoor area. It gives us more"to chew on"! The commerical making process was interesting, too.
I liked it too it is nice to see what happens behind the scene. I also love the black SUV in front of the house perfect match for Utah weather. Can't wait for the reveal!!!
That's wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
Brendain, I know how much you love this home! We'll be having fun when the reveal comes!
Yes, I do!! And Yes! Each of us will have fun dreaming about living in this home! Everything about our house, I love!!! Thank you DeerSpring!!
Loved it, once again you come through for us! And now we know it's the black SUV!
Black it is!!!
Beehive, I found this thanks to your report about all the activity taking place at the DH.
It looks like we only have a few more weeks for the big reveal!
What did you google? I never know how you find these wonderful links. Anyway, did you see the upstairs back guest room with the flag? It's going to be so cool! She didn't use a quilt on the bed but the paisley is awesome with the checks on the pillows. I can't wait to see the rest, I will probably be in a swoon for days!
I use another search company, Bee. Maybe there's a quilt draped over a chair!
We only have a peek-a-boo glimpse right now!
Well I'll leave it all to you because you are doing fabulous. I still hope for handmade quilts, maybe for the great room or the guest suites downstairs.
Bee, I hope to see quilts in the Dream Home, too. It's seems like it would fit in with
the ranch house theme and would reflect the local heritage of the area. I see you
are really looking at the rooms with your "eagle eyes". I'm returning for a second
look!
Measure twice, cut once… oops, that's for sewing and carpentry, not looking at the pictures!
Thanks for finding all the pics at Front Door and HGTV Remodels, Bee.
I'll be checking those out later today!
I was thinking that Beehive's comment about all of the activity at the DH is what sparked your interest. Bloggers really do rely on teamwork!!
Hard to see the countertops, don't you think? And did the cabinets look white to you, or cream? I love the Americana guest room, I noticed a sofa in there and, I think, a quilted pillow on it (the one with the circles). I can't wait, only 18 days until reveal. I wonder if all of us looking will crash the server?!
I bookmarked it too, thanks for the idea.
In the kitchen video they say the cabinets are glazed white.
Need to have some glass fronts! It would reflect the light from the windows!!
Maybe they thought too much glass d/t the windows. I do like glass front cabinets and pretty farmhouse dishes.
I have bookmarked this blog, just in case the administrators get you for scooping them again! Loved looking at the inside photos. Interesting blue tile on the kitchen backsplash. I'm not sure that I think it goes with the countertops or cabinets, but I'll reserve final judgment until the tours start.
It will be so fun to see Jace and his dad Brock in the actual promos! Thanks DeerSpring — you always have the best links for new info. I don't know how you do it!
Thanks, Wyo_Girl! I like having the story behind the commercial. Maybe they'll let us keep this
because it only has sections of the rooms and doesn't give away the whole appearance.
I think she's great, too!
Thank you, Deerspring ! Fun information–now we know what sort of kitchen faucet the DH has.
Every detail is noticed, LL. Maybe this will prevent sensory overload when the DH
reveal finally comes!
This beaUTiful picture of Salt Lake City at night was featured on the computer today. I thought you'd enjoy. http://www.bing.com/
OH PRETTY!!! What is that building?
That is the state capitol building and just to the lower left of it you can see the peaks of the Temple roof. This is the view you'd have if you are flying in to Salt Lake at night and then driving up to Midway you'd go across those mountains.
FUN! FUN! FUN!!
My DH says the photo is looking west but I think it's looking east. In any case, if it's west, you'd be at the great salt lake and you'd never arrive in Midway!
Since Temple Square is directly south of the capitol building, could it be looking south? I just wanted to throw another wrench into it! It kind of doesn't make sense with those mountains, that I think are to the east, but when you look at a map, it also doesn't make sense. Do you think the photographer photoshopped?
I seriously think those mountains are the Wasatch but I can't exactly justify it with the picture. Oh well. Good enough for government work!
Okay, now I see. It's uphill from the capital building, looking south and east.
