Vote For Your Favorite!
Hi all and happy Monday!
Today, I invite you to participate in a very special poll. Our visual designers created five possible banners, one of which we will post along with the virtual home tour on December 1. We’d like you to help us choose the best design.
Please review the banners and pop back here to cast your vote. Voting closes on November 23 at noon ET. The winning banner will be posted on December 1, 2011, at around 9 a.m. Keep checking Dream Home central for the updated look.

Two more weeks. Keep the teasers coming.
Truthfully, all the banners are good. I voted for dreamy, but I'd actually like to see the banners rotate, since they all highlight different and excellent aspects of the home.
That's a very brilliant idea Stephen. Mary we want them all!!:)
Excellent idea! I agree!
I third that motion, rotating the banners is the best solution.
I like them all but "cool colors" showed the best view of the mountains. I like the furniture on the back porch, thanks for the peek, Mary. I love stephenwnagy's idea to rotate the banners.
I think there should be a "quilting" banner of some kind!
I agree also with rotating the banners. All of them are good.
Hi and good morning, BrendainKs! Have a fabulous week, I know you must have a busy schedule. I took a second look at the kitchen this morning. Some will say it's too small but I considering the theme of the “old farmhouse,” I think it's gorgeous. I'm sure my grandmother in her day would've loved this kitchen in her own old farmhouse. I wish we could've had the farmhouse sink but I can see how it would not fit with the layout of the base cabinets. I sure did like that Kohler sink that Alice showed us in the video. Now that is a sink I would rip out my entire kitchen sink for!
Maybe it's just my perspective, but I feel that the kitchen is the room that requires the most cleaning. So i'm perfectly content with having a small kitchen. The wine cooler and the refrigerator are definitely my favorite part of the whole kitchen. Also, why do the banners say Park City???? Also, beehive, this is a little off topic, but do you know anything about Swiss Christmas? I saw signs for it, but my grandparents didn't know what it is. I thought it sounded intriguing, so maybe you can elaborate?
They've been doing that all along, ignoring Midway. Go figure.
Good Afternoon!!
I agree that it should look like an "old farmhouse" and have the inside reflect that. I have always wanted to live on a farm with open spaces and a comfortable home.
The faucet in the kitchen is a "touch" faucet, which is good when mixing up hamburger or Rice Krispy treats. When your hands are all gooey and yucky, that is the time I wish I had a touch faucet.
I would've used a different faucet but the touch feature is nice and the faucets look to be consistent throughout what we've seen of the home.
I went for rambling ranch since it showed off the house more. I was conflicted because I liked the scenery too.
I went back this morning and looked at the kitchen http://www.hgtvremodels.com/video/practical-yet-s…
It's definitely a smaller kitchen but well-organized and I love how the island houses the wine cooler, small refrigerator, dishwasher, and storage. I look forward to seeing what Linda does with the dining table, as that space is compact but the view to the river while you are eating will be fabulous.
love it
!!!!!!!!
I like that it has a separate refrigerator and freezer. That way, there is more room to store things and keep them cold. I don't drink wine, but I guess I will have to start!
I LOVE everything about our house. I DID notice that a Christmas tree could fit in every corner in the house!!!
That's what I would do.
To me its much too small for that size home.
When I was watching it through the window, way back when, I thought it looked small.
I'm way behind on the Dream Home but loving everything I see !! I was hoping for a huge kitchen, but this one looks very functional, although I do think more counter space might be needed.
With the small refrigerator on the outside the kids can get something to drink, without being in the kitchen…the wine frig.likewise would keep adult guess out of the way .So it is going to be big enough. (I think. )
Hi, gremol…hope you are on the mend ! I wonder if the sink will be big enough for roasting pans, and you have a point about the amount of counter space.
It looked like a pretty big sink to me. And did you see the shelving under the cook tops?
I think there should be a hanging baker's rack above the island for your pots and pans!
Just a thought.
But it would bump into those light/lamp shade fixtures over the island that we saw in the DH commercial.
Maybe the pots and pans go under the cooktop.???
That's a good idea, if you have nice cookware you can display it.
Yes, I'm guessing that is where they plan to store the cookware, but there needs to be a pull-out, otherwise the backend is non-functional. You'd have to pull out pans to get to the ones behind the first row. And you'd be down on your knees to get to them. Deep, full-size, drawers would have been the most practical solution, but at the very least there needs to be an edged, sliding platform.
I never thought of that but obviously I'm no cook and you are. I'll wait and see what they do and if I win, maybe I'll retrofit for sliding shelves, that makes more sense.
It seems more open than the Vermont kitchen. The space occupied by the dining table seemed so tight in those picture. Barely room for one person to walk through between the chairs on the island the chairs at the dinner table. Of course, those were only pictures.
This kitchen / dining room should benefit because it's not being used as a path from one part of the house to another.
Good point, I hadn't thought of that traffic pattern issue.
I don't think I've ever seen a kitchen island that didn't have spots for people to sit at it. So that is definitely a weird deal. I can't imagine everyone just standing around looking at each other. I think the kitchen designer was probably faced with a situation where he/she was directed to showcase a certain number of appliances, and the only way to get them in was to encircle the island thereby making it impossible for bar stools to be pulled up.
Yes, agree they had to get all those appliances into a smaller space and then, too, the clearance to the dining table would probably be too tight with an island that had seating. Just a guess. It will be great when we see the dining table all set up.
The design of the great room might hold the key with the kitchen opening onto that space. How could you pass up sitting out there or sitting in the kitchen with those views or moving out onto the back porch?
The one thing I would like to definitely see in the kitchen, however, is some sort of media access: internet, television. I liked the hidden center in the Vermont kitchen.
Hey stephen, I was looking at the proximity of kitchen/great room as well and on the floor plans, the great room is as large as the kitchen/dining space and remember Jack said everything flows from the great room, so I envision it being almost one big space. Now I really can't wait to see it on video.
I do remember that neat media center in the kitchen of the Stowe house. I wish there were an office space in this home, we need an out-of-the-way place for the computer, etc.
I was thinking about using the downstairs bedroom between the kitchen/great room area and the game room as an office. Will have to see how it's set up.
That's really the only place, unless maybe a corner of the game room. Will see pretty soon.
I like an island with seating, too. Guess you can't have everything in limited space.
I wish the island had a place to sit around and also hope that the dining table will be big and long – like to seat 10 – 12 people
Hey BHS! I haven't been checking in lately. Had lots of crazy things happen. Including a flood. A hose broke off from my washer and was shooting water everywhere. It flooded my 1st floor and leaked down into the lower level which is where our family room, pool table, ect. I've been cleaning up 4-ever! Long story but, I think I finally got the worst of it.
Thanks for all the great links. You helped me catch up! Reading your posts & opening up your attached links and I was back up to speed. Thanks! B)
OMG Stella! We had that happen to us in 1996, it was the connection of the dishwasher under the sink. We had thousands of $$ damage and the house was a mess for three months. A contractor had to come in and fix things. The good part was insurance paid for it and we had our house basically “new,” even my clothes were drycleaned and the wood floors re-sanded and polished, new wallpaper and carpet, everything, even new furniture! After that, we had the connection to the washer/dryer hoses changed for the better, too. I feel for you! I remember I had one table set up where I could sew and one day the carpenter came and told me he was also a quiltmaker!
I'm not going to vote for any of them, if you notice it says the location is Park City….no no no, it's Midway!!! Thanks beehive for the video link, love the kitchen and the view into the great room.
I noticed that, too, smokesmom. I guess the general public will understand it better if it says Park City instead of Midway. At least they didn't say Salt Lake City, because that's way off!
OMG! Maybe it's not for them to CHANGE IT TO MIDWAY, MARY!! Bloggers, thank you thank you thank you!
IMO, I don't want "someone" to know exactly where I live. lol Right, like that will happen. Especially when it is on national television! lol Ok, Nevermind. :p
In the master bath, my fav thing is that big tub! http://www.hgtvremodels.com/video/outdoors-inspir… Thanks for the video, HGTVRemodels. It only makes me want to see more… now!
I can see myself in that tub full of warm water and bubbles galore! Vanilla candles surrounding the tub! And have it thundering and raining at the same time!!! Wow what an image!! I can see and feel it already!!
And a cup of herbal tea and I hope they put a towel warmer in that bathroom!!
Yes, definitely a towel warmer!!
I discovered the videos you posted late last night and I was not able to see all the details but it was very nice of you to post them I am watching them now over and over and the bathroom is beautiful so is the kitchen. I can't wait for the virtual tour.
Yeah, aren't they just too much fun? I'm looking at them a second and third time and reposted them under Mary's new survey. I hope they give us more. Let's keep our eye on Frontdoor.com and HGTVRemodels.com over the next few days. You never know. BTW, it's beautiful here in Midway this morning with full sunshine, blue sky and cool, crisp air. The ski resorts in Park City will open next week and people are getting excited about that!
Thank you for that update, Beehive!!!
I hope you are having a GREAT day!!
Thank you
I voted for Rambling Ranch because it has that gorgeous house in all its glory instead of just a corner of the house as a sneak peak. The mountains and sunset are beaUTiful, but the home is the star!
Wyoming, did you see the furniture on the back porch?
I went back — do you mean the furniture on Utah Sunrise? Gorgeous colors, and it looks so comfy, doesn't it? If the inside furniture is half as good, I'm hooked. Oh, who am I fooling — I'm already hooked, even if there were NO furniture! LOL
We are easy to please, aren't we?! I love beautiful furniture so probably I will like everything. The only thing I don't like is if things are to “modern” and not comfy. I loved those leather recliners at the Stowe DH. That is my idea of luxe!
I voted for the cool colors. I love the blue on the side of the house and the snow capped mountains in the background.
I vote for Rambling Ranch as I agree with Wyo_Girl — the house is the star, but please, it's not in Park City — the banner should say Midway!
It's a tie between Rambling Ranch and Cool Colors for me. I like Stephen's idea of using all of the
banners if that is a possibility.
The Rose Parade officially announced the features of the DH float. The float will have smoke coming
out of the chimney and a Rose Parade first, a snow machine making snow for the HGTV celebs to
throw snowballs at each other!
http://media.roseparade.net/mediaGuideFloat.asp?i…
http://www.phxdeco.com/wp-content/gallery/2012-ro…
They need to be sure the blue part of the house shows on the float!! That's one of the best features of the house is the BLUE!!!
Thank you for finding this and sharing!
Brendain, we can keep tabs on the float's decoration when the live cam is on at Phoenix
Decorating Company.
Thank you DeerSpring! I think I may just do that.
Brendain, I checked yesterday but didn't see the float. We can be a tag team on
checking the site periodically to find out if the BLUE is there.
Sounds like a plan. I haven't been able to check today. But I will on Friday afternoon. Thank you DeerSpring!!
The cameras aren't very clear to see them working on the floats. You can't really tell which ones they are from the live cameras. Sorry.
Very cool except for the "Park City" part. I'd like it better if they would tell it like it is!
I'm sure the whole area wants to glow in the attention the HGTV DH will bring to your state,
Bee. We will be "in the know" about Midway because of your Daily Buzz!
Little-known Midway trivia: Scrappy's Timp Freeze is closed for the winter!
Awww…… sadness.
Beehive, do you eagerly wait for Scrappy's opening in the spring? It sounds like a good
place to get a burger and a shake!
I don't eat out much but I like a small cone on a hot day. The other great place for burgers, soups, cones is in Heber, it's called “Dairy Keen: Home of the Train” and they have a little train set up inside up high that goes all around. It's fun to watch it while you have a milk shake. They are well known to have best shakes in the Valley, year after year. And every Friday, a different soup.
I voted…………and just think, only 2 more weeks until the virtual tour begins. I can't wait!!!
Hi all- back to chime in. It's been a long while since I've shared a comment, but I do love reading all of yours. Thanks Beehive for the fresh links to view the kitchen & bath. I'd cast my vote for Rambling Ranch as well – a beautiful display of an exquisite house and environment. (I do agree though, if the house is in Midway, then Midway it should say!!)
I think the kitchen is simply stunning – simple and user friendly without being massive…. It does seem "just right" – my question… usually there is some seating around the island – this one doesn't seem to lend itself to that… Although, I could be wrong. I do love how you can see straight into the great room. and the views are breathtaking.
Oh… and the master bath – how relaxing is that? I agree Bee… a nice towel warmer would be a lovely addition… especially when the winter weather sets in.
So excited to see the rest of this beautiful home. How lucky are all of you who live in such a serene and picturesque local!
Since we are looking forward in a manner of speaking, how about looking ahead to a snowy picture, too? Rotate the banner to reflect the four seasons-winter, spring, summer and fall.
Aloha from Honolulu! Thankfully, I had plenty of time before heading on to Los Angeles to check in on the blogs, and caught the "Dream Home banner vote" Mary posted today.
No doubt about it, Rambling Ranch is the star, a standout, a stellar work of art that displays the very best of Dream Home 2012, both for its unique architectural style as well as the snow-capped mountain landscape, even delivering a strong sense of the open space that is such a visual draw to this winning ranch.
The Rambling Ranch banner definitely makes me long for a Dream Home on the range — so my vote goes to this Ramlin' Rose of a Ranch.
While viewing the kitchen video, did anyone notice a pantry or an outlet on the kitchen island?
Good question, now I've got to go back and look for myself.
Granintx, earlier they showed us there will be a pantry in the hall just outside the kitchen. I think it was back when DeerSpring showed us the link to the cabinetry company. I didn't seen an outlet on the island but I did notice the kitchen isn't "done," none of the drawer pulls are on and there are some pencil markings on one of the walls.
I'll cast my vote for Dreamy View.
We know where your priorities are Coop!!! Thank you for thinking of us!
Aloha! Travel safe!
So excited those links are finally working, I tried a few days ago and had problems and thought it was just me…..I really love what they're doing! I voted for "cool colors", although a photo with the river would have been spectacular too, they were all very nice! I just love the kitchen and master bath! I'm getting so excited!!!!!
Secrets Behind the 2012 Drywall- Is this video working for you guys? Its not working for me! =(
I want to know what's behind the dry walls!!!
Home home on the range! I like the rambling ranch banner because it seems to show off the house better. Thanks, Mary
Hi there, I buzzed by the house tonight around 6:40 p.m., it was dark and the house was all lit up but we noticed the garage door wide open and a big white van parked in the front of the house, toward the garage. Wonder what that was?
I just looked at the banners again and I like "Rambling Ranch" except for the fact that they have the mountains in the wrong place! That view of the house, you can't see the snowy mountains. So I guess it's "photo-shopped" and if they can fix that, they can change it to say MIDWAY.
Hear, hear !!
Hey Everybody,
You can see the mountains and the full front of the house with the "Cool Colors" banner. Thanks HGTV for giving Beehive the links for the kitchen and master bath. Really enjoyed videos.
I found that link that meredith told us about in a different place, the one about what's behind the drywall. I really like learning all these things about the house from the ground up.
Thank you Debra G winter spring summer and fall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v00TUYj9ns
Don't you just love Aretha? That was fun, thanks.
Grrrll Power ! How do you think of these things, alice ? That was great.
http://www.hgtvremodels.com/video/whats-behind-th…
Here you go: "What's behind the drywall?"
I just took one last look at the link DeerSpring gave us that showed the commercial being made. You can see the light fixtures over the kitchen island (they look like lampshades) and the hardware/pulls on the kitchen cabinets. That post by her is back on the November 10th issue of Mary's.
I CAN NOT WAIT!!!! Looking at these videos makes me want to drive up to Utah RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Don't be surprised if I show up at your doorstep, Beehivestate!!!
Better hurry up before the snow flies one of these days. You will probably want to wait till they start the tours, though, and that won't be until January.
Since I have school again in January, I will probably need to wait until May when school is over. Yay!!!!!! Finally!!!
Oh, Beehivestate, what will I do after graduation? Where will I get a job?
Maybe I should start worrying about that now, huh? =/
Start now scouting out where you could work. Salt Lake City is a commute but it is doable and many people live up here and work in the city. Park City maybe?
I drive an hour to class and work every day, so 45 minutes won't kill me!! For me, it's thinking time and unwinding time.
But with our house and in the setting it's in, going "home" would be my unwinding time!
Maybe I could work at the place in Midway where they make those cupcakes!!
Could you run a B&B? Maybe rent out part of the house for that? I can't recall if CC&R's permit that or not. Keep the upstairs bedroom suites for yourself.
Sorry to be posting so much today, I've been house-bound for three days. I need to get out tomorrow.
I COULD run a B&B!! I've always wanted to stay home all day, make an income, and help others at the same time!!
I will check into CC&R's regulations and see if it says anything about this. If anyone else finds it before me, feel free to comment!! Thank you in advance!
Okay, that's your new business then. Sell the house you have now and write a business plan for the River Meadows Ranch B&B. I will help you, but not with cooking, no one would ever come back if I was the cook lol !!
THUMBS UP A MILLION TIMES!!!
I will write a business plan for a B&B as soon as possible! I do NOT own my house, I rent. The only thing I own, myself, is a 1995 Toyota Corolla that my daughter drives to college. It has over 300K miles on it and it's about on it's last leg. Or wheel. =/ A couple weekends ago, a deer broad-sided her on the passenger's side, busted the passenger's window and the mirror on that side. She put plastic Saran Wrap on the window to keep the rain and snow out of the car. Such as life… She is ok and wasn't hurt. Thank you God!!!
If you only have one family at a time, parking would not be a problem. i recall some regs about not having cars in the driveway over 24 hours. First check the CC&R's. I think you can have a business in the house as long as you don't hang out a sign.
You will help me with what? Writing the business plan? Or help me take care of our house and the guests?
OK……. I will cook. You twisted my arm!!
Think of it!! When guests arrive, the fireplace is going, great music playing on the wonderful stereo system ( I know there are better words to describe the sound of the system), wonderful smells coming from the kitchen, nice, warm beds with quilts on every one!!! Awwww……..
I like cleaning and organizing, I'll help with grocery shopping, cleaning, and behind-the-scenes, where-stuff-is and like that.
We will HAVE to have a BIG Christmas tree in the Gathering Room! And the trees out by the side of the house all decorated in lights! AND the front entry needs to have beaUTiful garland and lights around the frame too!!
You can help me wrap Christmas presents for the kids who don't have much of a Christmas. We will pick one family each year from Midway and buy presents for them and deliver them to their house on Christmas Eve by horse and buggy!!! But it has to be anonymous! I guess it won't be if I put it on here, huh? lol
I CAN NOT WAIT to see our house!!!!! I can't say that enough!
When I watch this video, I get SO excited, I start to almost hyperventilate when the camera comes to the hallway bathroom and goes further into our house. Then it just STOPS. BOOO!!! Why can't they keep going on to the rest of our house?
Did you see the pantry cupboards? And the hall bathroom? and the entry to the guest room? The flooring? Neat.
Oh my Goodness!!! I watched that video again and OOOOHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! The downstairs bathroom is the same color as the master sitting room, right? Which is ok. A surprise, but it's ok! Yes, I saw the pantry cupboards in the hallway. I don't know if it's really a pantry for like cans of peaches or things like that. I think it's a place to keep linens and extra pillows and things like that. But that's just a guess.
When the camera comes to the hall closet, that 's when I get more excited!!! It's like a Christmas present and I am a little kid waiting to open it!!! I get SOOOOOO excited!!! I can NOT wait to see the rest of our house!!!
SOOOOO Neat!!!!
Since You are going to give me a tour of Midway, can I give you a tour of our house? lol ….. I bet you will be in it before I am.
New Green Home post, folks !
Thanks, maybe I already did but I'll check.
Today on the Dream Home Main page I see the link to the new kitchen/bath/drywall videos, click on "secrets behind the drywall." Thank you, Mary, for making it easier for us!
As you may have guessed, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. A divided sink is more helpful to me for a number of reasons, eg. washing fresh fruits and veggies, washing pots, accomodating multiple step recipes, or separating food items that may cross-contaminate or may be thawing while cooking. A single sink cuts down on my ability to multi-task while cooking. The ability to multi-task can be essential in such a compact space.
The sink was a surprise to me, too. I think the house will be full of surprises,.
I have a feeling there will be some things in our house that is a secret and only the owner will know what it is! Besides the builders.
Although I've only arrived home 7 hours ago, I had to jump online first thing this morning (my body's not quite sure of the time of day yet) and cast my vote for Rambling Ranch once again.
Thanks for the opportunity to cast our votes, Mary. Which goes to prove that old slogan — it's great to live in the land of the free and the home of the HGTV Rambling Ranch.
Now, as for the rest of my day, well, I'll get as much done as I can before my body's time-clock says it's supposed to be nightfall and my energy level drops to semi-comatose by midday!
Onward faithful bloggers wherever you may be.
We've been holding down the fort (Midway to Paradise) in your absence. Welcome back. Will you catch up on the blog before you unpack?
It'll take me awhile to completely catch up with the blogs, beehivestate, but unpacking will take even longer. That's a long process that involves sorting, hanging, storing, filing, doing laundry, then more laundry (okay, I protest too much — I had some done in Thailand as it's so inexpensive), going through a month's worth of mail with accompanying bills (how come THEY don't take a vacation when I'm away from home?), grocery shopping, rebonding with my dog Terri, and well, just general mayhem.
As for energy levels, well I managed to get some work done today as well as a haircut, but it's just 6 pm and I'm struggling to stay awake. I may fall asleep soon, but hopefully I won't wake up hours later slumped over at the dining room table — and a cold dinner!
Welcome back Coop!!! How was your trip? ^_^
Granintx,
The pantry is in the hall. Check out the "Behind the Drywalls" video and you'll see the wide spanse of panel folding doors, with drawers in the center, as they give you a glimpse of the finished hallway.
PBBradley, is it just above #5 in these floorplans? http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20…
Also, where do people think that bedroom with the Americana theme is (where Jace was filming)? Is it bedroom #2 or the upstairs bedroom that was previously the bunkroom? I know we are going to see the tour soon, but I need answers now, darn it!
Hi Wyoming, didn't they tell us in Mary's previous post that the former bunk room became the Americana-theme guest room? That room has the blue walls that we saw before. From the outside, I took a picture that showed the light-colored bed covering. And when DeerSpring showed us the cabinetry link, we saw the pantry space in the hall behind the kitchen. Also, in the vid for "secrets behind the drywall," there is a quick look at the hall and you can see where that pantry will go.
The room Jace is filming in, I think that's the master suite sitting room. I guessed that by that pumpkin wall color they showed us awhile back. I do like the red-checked ottoman and the pretty carpet.
There is a quilt-like geometry in that checkered ottoman fabric, somehow…oooo , love the carpet pattern.
Well, that's one way to look at it. I still wish for a real quilt.
One will be in our house if we have to put it there!! he he… :$
Brenda, if we read about a break-in at the famed Midway Dream Home, in which a woman was spotted climbing onto the balcony and leaving a handmade quilt inside the house, we will have some idea as to her identity, LOL….
Too funny!!!
Oh that's rich! I could do that!! And don't forget, if you win, Brenda or LL, I will make you the flannel quilt you've always wanted. I'm already collecting the fabric… talk about confident!
Awwww…..you are SO SWEET!!! Put your arms around you and give youself a squeeze!!! THERE, a hug from me!!!
Thank you pretty lady!!!
I knew about the pantry, but I claim amnesia on the bunk room turned Americana room. I think it must be a brain freeze, since it was 8 degrees when I got up this morning!
Criminey! 8 degrees? I hope you have a flannel quilt on the bed.
TY, Bee.
TY, PBBradley.
Personally I do not like the stainless steel look because of the tiny fingerprints and dings (which I
would have for sure). I do not think I could keep straight where or which refrigerator or freezer I had
put my food! Cool colors was my choise, but very very close to Rambling Ranch. I don't
have a large kitchen in my home, but I do love those humongous ones I have been seeing on a
few programs on HGTV. Bee, thank you again for all of the fantastic help you give us!!
I have black appliances and was wishing I had splurged on stainless but, now that you mention those little fingerprints, maybe the black is best right now. Sounds like the Dream kitchen would be about right for you.
Oh yah…! I keep looking at my kitchen to see howI could change it and I can’t figure it out. If I were to lose the refrigerator I could make the whole open plan. I just am not ready to do that. I still need the refrigeration and freezing apperatice. I have yet to figure out how to do without.
Can't you do like they do on HGTV and knock out a wall or something?! lol
You make it sound so easy, Beehivestate!!!
Get those Property Brothers in there and let them go to work with the sledgehammer… or that cute guy who gets you to let him come home with you from Lowe's and knock out your wall And now that we know a load bearing wall, be careful!
I would like to meet Scott Gillivaray (?) !!!! However you spell his name!!! That would be great!! Isn't he so cute and manly and can fix anything!!!
Is he the one on income property? He's a dreamboat!
lol!!! Yes, that's Scott!!! My dream man!!!!
Dark hair, muscles, patient, brave, happy ……hmmmmm….
Ok, I'll stop. For now.
I was just watching him on HGTV. Then Property Brothers. I love these shows!
Actually, I think SandyLA needs the Kitchen Cousins to go to work for her.
Throw in Marc Bartolomeo from Kitchen Impossible and I'll be happy (Brooklyn in da house ! )
Do you think Prop. Brothers are twins ? I like the way the remodeler bro frosts his hair so we won't confuse him with his real estate pro brother…I think they are in Canada–(many HGTV shows are) but we really need those guys in overpriced CA, where nobody can afford to buy homes anymore ! Brenda, I think Scott's from Canada too…I have watched his show from his beginning year–and he gets cuter all the time–but is now sporting a wedding ring lately, sorry to tell you. He does own a lot of rental properties !
Awww….I'm sad now. :'(
That just means that he isn't "the one" for me!!
I think that LLColeman is on to something. The Kitchen Cousins guy might be your dream man!
The only inside wall I have is the wall with the refrigerator, pantry, and double oven. The rest are outside, garage or washing and drying machines.Thank you Bee for caring (heart).
You are welcome. I still think “Kitchen Crashers” could figure out something for ya, SandyLA. BTW, I just drove past the Dream Home and it is absolutely beaUTiful, amazing with the snow all around. And the mountains and hills are awesome looking today. Like a picture postcard.
ANOTHER great idea from Mrs. Beehivestate!!
I can only imagine. Everything we see is fabulous.
I can't get enough of this Midway Dream Home, but I still enjoy all those other HGTV home shows as well, and this one should be an eyeful — news is that HGTV will give viewers exclusive access to the 56,500 square foot home of the late television producer Aaron Spelling and his wife Candy.
Selling Spelling Manor premieres on December 15 at 10 p.m. EST/PST, and was shot in the 30 days that Candy Spelling had to move out of the Los Angeles manor, where the family entertained presidents, royalty and Hollywood legends, and the home that she lived in for more than 20 years with her husband, daughter and actress/reality star Tori and son Randy.
Spelling gives a tour of the mansion, which include a bowling alley, an arcade, a china room and the never-bef0re-seen 17,000 square foot attic which housed a barber shop and beauty salon. Viewers will also see Spelling Manor’s seven bedrooms, a master suite with a two-story walk-in closet, five kitchens and 27 bathrooms.
The home was sold to fashion designer Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One racing magnate Bernie Ecclestone, for US$85 million in June.
Okay, but my heart is still set on HGTV's Dream Home 2012, which by my calculations is More Than Midway to Paradise!
56,500 square feet? And I was thinking we would "rattle around" in 4000 sq. ft.! I just watched the first episodes of HGTV's new program, "My House, Your Money" and it was funny. The kid called crown molding "old people molding." I guess I'm old.
I like the crown molding too and I'm in my mid- to late 40's.
It's quiet tonight. Shhhhhh……….
I'm watching HGTV instead. My DH went out of town till Saturday and I have Lars by myself so I'm beat. I had a half pint of B&J for dinner, plus cheese and crackers for protein. Tomorrow will be better.
Perhaps someone can answer this question, does this home have a functional basement?
No basement. Built on a plinth to raise it up for better views of the river. Crawl space with room for the a/c and storage.
Not familiar with plinths. Are they sealed or can they flood or become a habitat for creepy critters?
From what I learned, a plinth is just a platform for the structure.
Cool Colors…Is the one!! Just as you all have given us just the "sneak peeks" that's what this banner represents. It invites you to to the home and location and makes a mind wonder… where is that and I want to go there? !!!
Fun! Looking forward to Dec 1st!!
It is at the top of this page. Is that what you wanted to know?
If you enjoy amazing home renovations, the new HGTV series, Weekends With Luis, sounds like fun. During the series, premiering Sunday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m. ET/PT, Luis and some lucky homeowners will complete an awe-inspiring home renovation project in only two days without breaking the bank. During the program, Luis will share creative design secrets as well as showcasing his work with a high-end clientele.
Sounds great. Maybe HGTV should treat us to a program with Linda Woodrum that would highlight her design tricks, starting from the initial steps of the design puzzle, taking us through to load-in day and then sharing some of her favorite completed areas within each Dream Home and Green Home project. That would certainly interest and entertain millions of dedicated fans as she pulls off another magical transformation for each one of HGTV's Dream Homes and Green Homes.
Besides, I'm sure a look inside the selection process and sourcing of furnishings and accessories would be fascinating, don't you think? Or perhaps Linda Woodrum prefers that cloak of mystery that surrounds her uncanny design abilities?
Hmm, we'll have to come up with a catchy title and pitch the project to the right people at Scripps Networks. Surely Mary will be able to help us get the idea from drawing board to the big screen.
Which, by the way, begs the question — how will the show's revenue stream be shared among us?
I second your idea about a Linda Woodrum program…I am a long-time fan. Glad you are back safely, Coop. Terri must be ecstatic!
I, too, would love to see a program featuring Linda Woodrum. It mystifies me how she can pull it off year after year, such big projects, so many details, so beautifully.
Wow my first choice is in last place, but my second choice, which I had a hard time picking between, is in 1st place. I choose "Cool Colors," because it has a large view of the house, like "Rambling Ranch," but it also has a better view of the mountains and it's lit up, showing more color.
I think I like "cool colors" the best, second is "rambling ranch". I like them all though. Those two are my favorites. Can't wait to see more of the inside. I know we should have some more sneak peaks before we have the virtual tour. lol Give us more!
I love all the banners, too, but I chose Rambling Ranch. Thanks for the peek furniture on the rear porch.

Be sure to mark your calendars for this special event!
Thank you, I know where I'll be on Monday January 2nd at 11 a.m. (Mountain Time)!
Oh, no!!! With this much coverage on "our" Dream Home, complete with visual feast, too many people will start voting. We need to "shhhssshhhhh" fast so the word doesn't get out about this fabulous house. Dang, it's probably too late
I know what you mean but I look at it like "kismet," if it's meant to be, it will happen. With such a large number of votes, you have to have serendipity in the mix somewhere. I want someone from Midway or Utah to win… like you or me… or a blogger like Brenda or one of the other great ones on here.
Wouldn't it be funny if someone local won? It would seem like the fix was in on the contest. Looking on utahrealestate.com in the Midway residential section, I can search homes for sale and my daydreams of moving continue to be fed.
I just looked at it, lots of short sales at the Zermatt right now including a 1 bd 1 bath for $50K. Pretty unbelievable!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
I'm glad to be in the running for this Dream Home. After all, I'm a blogger too, I've been to Utah a number of times to tour around the state, and I've actually been to Midway. On top of it all, I've even chatted with Jack T right on the Dream Home property. Now with credentials like that, surely I'll have a good chance! :p
Goes without saying, you have very good karma for Midway City, DBCoop! You've even had a cone at Scrappy's. You're "in."
I want to be "in" too! So for me to be "in", I need to go to Midway and eat at Scrappy's? But they are closed in the Winter! How am I going to be "in" if I can't even get in the front door? xD
You better be there at 9 a.m. mountain time for the parade and 8 a.m. for Matt Blashaw's special, or you'll miss it!
Definitely, most definitely. I was thinking mostly of the other special but the Matt Blashaw special will be good too.
What station will all of this be on? I think Central Time is like 8 am!!! Wow! I'm going to have to get up early that day. lol Just kidding. I don't usually stay in bed that late!
From the start, I viewed the garage as right (just) to the left of the front door, with the opening
straight out. Now, with a closer look I think the garage door is around the corner driving inside
from the side. Since I cannot remember the directions I do not know if I am making myself
clear enough. Oh, never mind… I can wait until Dec. 1st. Now the excitement is starting to grow.
I guess Jack is starting on the next house already. Where is it? Could it be in Pennsylvania?
Hmmmmmmmmm…..
The garage is on the end of the house, on the NW corner. The other night when i saw the garage door open and the big white van parked in front, I dreamed they were unloading snow machines or ATV's for part of the prize!
I voted for Pennsylvania. Hawaii would be my first choice, but travel to and homes in Hawaii are sooooooooo expensive.
I think Pennsylvania would be awesome, granintx. I have nothing against Hawaii but it's very expensive to get there from Utah and the cost of living is through-the-roof.
Getting to Hawaii is a relative cost. It's actually less expensive for me to fly from S CA to Hawaii than to fly from CA to Pennsylvania. Once there, however, Hawaii is definitely pricey. Oh well, the year-round tropical temps would be enough to entice me, and throw in an Hawaiian Dream Home or even an Urban Oasis and I'll be there before you can say Aloha!
On the other hand, Pennsylvania would do me fine. Actually, anywhere Jack T decides to locate one of those highly prized Dream or Green Homes would be enough to lure me out of S CA, if only for the summer months.
Who knows, 2012 might even be my year to enjoy all the comforts and scenic beauty of living More Than Midway to Paradise!
You are right, of course, the west coast to Hawaii would be easier than from NY to Hawaii, it's relative. Even when we lived near Seattle, though, it was still expensive to fly to Hawaii.
COOL!!! (no pun intended.)
So, our house faces West? And is on the East side of the road? Or do I have my directions mixed up?
Front of the house faces to the SW, so yes it is on the East side of River Road. You are correct.
I know where the garage is, but I inadvertently thought the door was in another place! I was having the car go in through a window it appears.
You know, in the beginning the floor plan drawing did show the door on the back side. I remember DBCoop pointed it out to us. This is better, though, less driveway to shovel on days like today.
OK, I totally LOVE the banner clip that shows the several seasons above the "you vote" function on the home page! That is what I was talking about, a vignette of the four seasons of DH 2012:) I vote for THAT one!
I love the Utah sunrise and Sensational sunset banners, but I've already seen enough pictures of the 2012 dream home courtesy of this blog and beehivestate's photos to not feel lost by them. I think Dream Home newbies would want to see more of the home exterior design, like the rambling ranch and cool colors banners to reassure them they've landed on the right set of web pages for the 2012 dream home…
I like them all. I voted for "Rambling Ranch" but I agree with the idea of rotating them. They are all beautiful, and since I will be on the site entering everyday it would be nice to see it changed up.
Rambling Ranch….it’s Utah!!
Just curious. Are there any women on any of the architectural design teams for the HGTV giveaway homes?
Yes. Well, there was. The architect for the Sandia Park dream home is a female, and I happen to think it showed, especially in her kitchen design. No matter how the times have changed our lives in other ways, women are still the main shoppers and food prepares in most families, and her design demonstrated a real-world, first-hand, understanding of those needs. I loved how the food pantry/ recycling room was right off the garage and en route to the kitchen. (contrast this with the Midway dream home's lybrinthian route from garage to kitchen). And oh how I loved that butler's pantry. Aesthetically and practically, the best dream home kitchen, by far. And, sorry, but I think the Midway kitchen is the most disappointing of all. BTW, I am a chef, so when it comes to kitchens I am, admittedly, hyper-critical.
Oh, as to your question, Granintx, I just remembered that one of the architectural designers for the Serenbe home is a female. I think. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if we can detect the female perspective in its design.
I concur, Addy243 ! Lots of things to love in the N.M. DH.
Was that the home with the little casita? Where you could see-through the shower into the bedroom? Why do that?! I don't "get" the outdoor shower experience in the Midway DH either.
I'm guessing the outdoor shower experience at the Midway Dream Home is for cleaning fish caught right in your own backyard, the Provo River! Imagine, use the right soap and both the fisher AND catch of the day would come out squeaky clean, smelling fresh, and no more rough, scaly skin! :p
Not only that, you can bring the fish right up through your master suite!
Really? Who would want fish in their bedroom or bathroom, for that matter?
I realize you guys are just joking around, but seriously! :p
Bee, you will notice I said 'lots of things to love'..but I didn't love everything, LOL. I drove myself crazy trying to imagine a way to deal with that Casita shower, "in CASE I won", heh heh…..
My DH had a few comments about that also and when he saw the "outdoor shower experience" in this DH. Maybe we can switch out the window for one-way glass. We had that in a house and it works well except for at night you can see in.
Doesn't the windows in the bathroom face the trees where no one goes?
It faces to the river and, believe-you-me, someone can walk right up to the back fence and see up there. I've been there and I know.
Oh!!! OK!! :p
The kitchen is definitely one of the most important rooms of any home, or at least so I'm told. I don't know how mine would rank among Dream Home kitchens, but it's easy to find and does have a refrigerator, sink, microwave and dishwasher, and thus seems fully functional to me. ^_^
It has everything I could possibly want but then again, I'm not an avid cook or a chef. I just scramble eggs and such. I can bake bread but that's about my limit.
So, when I invite you over for dinner, that would be a treat for you? You would think I am AWESOME!!! xD
From you, I expect pastries!
I will cook you dinner and have pastries for dessert!!
Did you know that "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts?"
No I didn't know that. Today at the gym I saw a sign "KEEP CALM AND IGNORE JUNK FOOD" Doesn't sound like very much fun to me.
Don't read the signs!!
The HGTV dream home in St Michaels, Maryland was designed by a woman architect. They have had different architects/builders/contractors each year of the giveaway.
What year was that, dreamn again? I wasn't following until Winter Park. I'd like to go back and see that home.
That was 2002. If you go to the top of this page, beehive, there is the orange bar and it has a "Past Homes" category you can click on. Then you can see all of them–and most have photos of rooms. (I entered all of those contests) :p
Thanks, I'll get to that this afternoon. I think we have a storm coming in, it's blowing like a banshee.
It is very cold and windy and raining here in Seattle and the weather forcast said maybe we will get some snow by the end of the week. Soney sure would be happy. Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner we thought we would share this funny clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he3T80PuwRk&fe…
That was nice to unwind to. I've had Lars all day and he kept turning off the surge protector on my computer. Let us know if you have snow for T-Day. Speaking of "Friends," I'm probably the only person I know who never watched a single episode of that show!
I don't really like it either, Beehivestate!! You aren't the only one in that boat!
Ha ha, you two ! I tried to watch an episode and I was just thinking to myself–" I don't understand the popularity of this show". The cast is certainly talented enough–but the writing……….o.0
P.S. Bee, maybe Lars needs a toddler version of an electronic gizmo with buttons to push.
Oh no, he only likes “real” things and hardly ever goes for “toys” but we have an old surge protector that I'm going to give him to mess with.
My mom used to call my oldest daughter Gizmo.
Our son was just like Lars. He knew the difference between and a Phillips screwdriver at a very young age and was taking apart our table tops. You'd vacuum and hear this "click click click" as the screws and wing nuts got sucked up… or you'd go to move the table and it would fall apart!
I think they should have had a choice of "Quilted Cabin" or something about quilts. I would have voted for that!!! I love all of the banners on the Home Page!!! So pretty and breath-taking!!
I can NOT wait to see it in person! I am so excited! Can you tell? :p
I watched the first video that Jack is in for the location of the 2012 HGTV Dream Home and instant "glory bumps!" They aren't goose bumps cause I'm not cold. I call them "glory bumps" because I think God is wanting one of us to live in our house!! The more I watched, the bigger they got.
Maybe all of us can stay in it for a while!
Sounds like a plan to me!
Smiles!!!!!:)
Just now I was over at HGTVRemodels looking at an article on quartz countertops as an alternative to granite. Do you think the countertops in the Dream Home look like quartz? I recall in the Winter Park DH a few years back HGTV used Silestone. Just wondering if anybody else noticed the counters..
We will soon find out when sponsors are announced. It looks lie a quartz/ man-made product, rather than granite, at first glance.
It's pretty, whatever it is. I can't wait to find out. Quartz would be fine by me.
Well so far this week…. Created and framed 12 (8" x 10") photo collages for my Mom's pokeno group (now gift bagging them), cooked and froze green beans for Thanksgiving, completed a scrapbook for one of my Mom's friends, wrote a short play for grandkids to present at great grandmother's 90th birthday, did a practice run with my turkey fryer, washed and froze 10 huge bunches of greens (will cook tomorrow or Friday)…..That's all I can remember now. I still haven't figured out how some people are bored after they retire…..
I'm retired, too, and never bored. Especially since HGTV and Midway, and getting a grandchild. I admire your cooking, I wish I could be a good cook but it's just no use pretending. lol.
I am exhausted reading this, Miss gran !! You could run a restaurant, decorate it, and provide entertainment for the patrons !
