Hey Gail, I might have just seen you as I drove by this morning and watched the film crew at work outdoors. I do have a question. What is the material the kitchen countertops are made of? What would you store on those shelves under the cooktop? Also, how about the master suite bath and the privacy issues with the windows in the shower? Thanks, Gail. You come through for us time after time. Your video is great and I think YOU are "off the hook" amazing!
DAILY BUZZ. FRIDAY 11/18. Here are pictures I took this morning of the house from up the hill. You can see the film crew with the long "boom" with the camera on it. The garage doors were open and I spy the black SUV. The furniture is also displayed on the back, although I did not go there and could only see the furniture on the corner deck. Enjoy. It's only 6 pictures. I think it will snow tonight/tomorrow so it's good they are filming today. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/sets/72…
You can see the round-about and the white car facing the other direction is the security man.
Love the new snapshots beehive. It's amazing how close the river is, what a wonderful location. The angle of these images from up on the hill gives a good over all impression of how all the angles of the home look like ad ons….just like the old ranch houses that started out small and grew with the family. Gracias
You are welcome. I hadn't thought of that, how it shows the house to look like “add on's.”
Hi smokesmom, I should have waited until this morning and captured the new snow. It wouldn't have been much fun for that camera crew out here this morning in the cold, though.
We've got snow here in Wyoming, it's a winter wonderland!
Yeah, I guess you guys are in for the winter!
I'm sure you did get snow in Powell, smokesmom. We're buried under about 8 inches here. My husband is outside plowing the road right now!
FUN!!!
What? The snowfall or her DH plowing?! lol
The snowfall, silly!! AND it's good that her DH does the plowing!!
Both.
If you need a plow (as opposed to a snow blower), I guarantee it's a lot of snow!
Woo Hoo!!!
It is so pretty! makes me miss Utah!
Did you grow up here, JessiRose? You could always move back some day.
Do you miss the snow?!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pictures Beehivestate AS ALWAYS!!!
Thank you so much!!
Wow! Great pitctures,I like the one that shows the river & all the mountains.I see that there are mountains behind the river on the left side.Did it snow alot in Midway last night ? I can't wait to see pictures of our D.H covered in white.Thank you very much Bee.
It did snow, only about an inch. The grass is white but the roads are clear. I'll photograph again when there's a bit more to show for it. Angelways, I was wrong when I said there were no mountains on that side, I just don't think of those "hills" as "mountains," compared to what we have on the Midway side. So Jack was right on when he said the house is surrounded by mountains.
Thanks for the pictures, Beehive. I love the one with the panorama view. I think the architect
accomplished his vision of creating a home that looks like it has been in the location for
a long time. It looks like a part of the scenery!
You bet! And it's snowing this morning again, so pretty!
Enjoy the snow, Beehive. I'm sure it's beautiful!
It's up to 40 degrees so pretty much rain, and just wet. No cold weather predicted for this week either. The children next door were building snowmen and I went out and told them they could have as much snow from my front yard as they wanted!
~Thanks for the pics and insight. Happiness and Luck to you~
Thank you! How nice of you to say.
Bee, stunning pictures as always. I put the one with the mountains in the background up to 400% to get a closer look.* The mountains are stunning. From the photo they look like older (?) mountains, not sharp faces. Plump and rounded, I don't know what to compare them to. Clouds except those float and these mountains definitely do not, but they look so… anyway good picture. (As always)
It definitely gives one a sense of place and a constant awareness of the good, green earth we all linhabit.
*3 little icons in upper right of screen. A home, a star and a 'round thing'. Click the round thing. Click resolution. Click 400%.
I tried but maybe iPhoto doesn't do it like that because I couldn't find the home, star, or "round" thingie. Oh well, it's all good anyway. MyDH just bought me a book call iPhoto "Portable Genius," so maybe I can figure out these things by myself. Thanks and yes, the mountains on the east are more like "hills" than "mountains," just a high place as you go toward Moab. In that direction is Vernal with the Dinosaur National Monument and Strawberry Reservoir for great fishing. It is a huge reservoir, bigger than Deer Creek or Jordanelle, which are on either end of the middle Provo River.
LOL. No, I meant Windows. (I told you I'm low tech) On the Windows screen in the upper right are the 3 icons.
Thanks for telling me about the 'hills' They just looked big to me, so I supposed they were mountains. Still a lovely sight to live with year round through the seasons. Thanks again.
There you go! I thought you probably had Windows, not iMac. I've only had this iMac less than a year and I love it so much but there is so much I haven't figured out yet and the books aren't very helpful. We can go to classes at the Apple store in Salt Lake City but it's a long ways away and a big effort to do that, so I just plug along.
Is there a place near our house to go sledding and NOT get hurt?
Yes, go to Soldier Hollow and go tubing. It's about 7 miles away but it's famous for sledding, then you go into the lodge for cocoa.
beehivestate – I love your enthusiasm for my life-long home. Born here, lived here forever and plan to stay forever. The beauty you show in your great photos is a big reason I'm still here. I've spent time in almost all 50 states and still get excited when I return to my home at the mouth of a Wasatch Front canyon. And when work gets tough, a walk outside to see the mountains fixes all!
Am very excited for the reveal of this home. Keep posting your sneak previews. They're fun.
You're welcome! I'm a newcomer (4 years) but I sincerely LOVE living here in Midway.
Hi Gail. we've missed you. I'd like to know what kind of heating system the home has.
Hi Gail, I would like to know if there will be a water softener in the new dream home? I have heard that the Midway area has very hard water. What about a generator in case of power outages? Thanks!
Hi Ladny, I asked that before and it's a good question because the water is very hard here. We have one from Water Science in Park City and we also have a reverse osmosis water filter on our drinking water. In all the time I've been here 4+ years we've had maybe two power outages is all and it was only for one or two hours at most. Since the house is heated mostly by solar, it will be covered, I would think.
Hi Gail!! Great video and you are "off the hook" amazing as Beehivestate said!!! I've been watching you for several years and the homes get better with each year!!
My question: is there any secrets of our house that only the owner should know? lol It's kinda difficult for you to answer this if only the owner should know, right!!!?????
Ok, how 'bout this one……will you be able to tell us or show us the master bedroom before the BIG reveal? That would be GREAT!!!
Thanks Gail! You are a sweetie!!
Right on! I'd love to see the whole master suite.
Brendain, are you thinking about a secret room, like a panic room?
I think the two top rooms I want to see decorated is the great room and the master suite.
I think everyone should have one of those kinds of rooms!
I would like to see those rooms decorated also!! Can't wait for them to show us!
Hi, Brendain. I came back to edit my comment (are) and here's your answer! I can tell you're getting excited.
LOL, Deerspring. I have many "panic rooms". I panic every time I walk into them and think about all of the cleaning and decluttering I need to do!!
Funny, Wyo_Girl! In that case, I have many panic rooms, too. I'll think of you everytime
I see one!
Hey Gail, since there is no basement for storage I'm wondering if any attic space was made available for those things that you want to keep but don't want to see very often. On the plans it looked like there was a walkway from the game room area stairway out over the garage attic. I have already planned several family shindigs based on the great room and guest quarters. My three sisters would be so green with envy if I lived here.
Hi Gail, I was wondering if the dryers are going to be gas or electric? Gas is so much more efficient than electric and is a gentle heat on fabric. Also, like above is there going to be a water softener and reverse osmosis? Can a shed for storage be put on the lot too? Way excited to see this house so far it is really nice.
hi gail, like everyone else im wondering whats the storage like in the home, what kind of storage space the home have, and i wasn't sure but is there a hot tub
I saw a hot tub on the back porch.
so did I
What type of hot tub is it?
Don't have a clue! Couldn't get close enough to see.
have you seen a fireplace back there
Yes, there is an outdoor fireplace on the wall that backs to the chimney. We think it's also a gas fireplace. And there is a big screen TV up above that fireplace.
Yesterday morning, at about 6:30, I took out the trash and the sky was lit up FULL of stars!!! I imagined I was at our Dream Home on one of the porches, looking up to Heaven and wanting to just fall asleep.
But then, I remembered where I was and had to go to work. Sadness……
Ah yes, and at the same time, you were blessed to have work to do and the health to do it.
Yes Ma'am. I am blessed!!!
Well, well, hello Super Fan Gail. Glad to see you're back and in fine form! So how did your dinner party go?
Actually, my question is, where have you been hiding? Or rather, where has HGTV been hiding you? Have you been on an extended vacation? I sure didn't spot you anywhere around Phuket Island or Bangkok, Thailand for that matter.
Now, what can you tell us about all of those special outdoor accessories and necessities on the back deck that we should look forward to? C'mon, share the details. We want to know just what kind of cooking, dining, relaxing, warming, cooling, soothing, slimming, swimming, or simply outrageous goodies HGTV will be generously providing the winner for outdoor enjoyment at this totally radical Rambling Ranch.
And once again, a hearty blogger's welcome back.
By the way, aside from the changeover from kids' bunk room to Guest Room, did the Living/Game Room area undergo any alterations from floor plans to provide for the kids' "slumber area" or is it a simple matter of minor repurposing to make it an adult hangout?
Welcome back, Gail! It's so good to see you again! After having been laid low for almost a week by the flu, I am back as well, and just in time to put you on the spot — do you have a favorite room? If so, what is it and why? And if you can pry it out of them, ask Jack and Linda the same question, please! ^_^
I hope you're feeling better, Cplus E. Some people are asking about neightborhood guidelines.
Didn't you post this earlier? I remember you mentioning the River Meadows Ranch site.
Hi CplusE, hope you're all better by now. At the very beginning I remember somebody did post the CC&R's.
Here is the link to the CC&Rs:
http://www.rivermeadowsranch.com/downloads/rmr_CC…
Thanks for the well wishes! I am slowly recovering, although right now I have no sense of taste or smell, and for some reason I can't sense ambient temperatures either. o.0 I've put my husband in charge of Thanksgiving food since without a sense of taste or smell I can't cook!
Sorry you're feeling poorly, C&E, but at least there is an upside. You won't have to cook Thanksgiving dinner!!
Thanks for posting those, I think BrendainKs wants them, too. I'm glad you don't have to cook and neither do I (have to cook). Yeah!!
Yes, I do. Thank you for posting! These are different from the ones they posted before. The copy I have is with all of the "Articles." The one that is posted here, has less legal jargon and more layman's terms.
Thank you again.
After comparing the two, they are the same. The link posted with the "garden plants" is new.
That was pretty interesting, especially the list of approved plants. And did you see the statement that"manicured or 'groomed' yards, pools and gardens are to be minimized" ? I didn't see coneflowers on the list of perennials but they are probably in the same family as sunflowers.
What page is "garden minimization" clause on? lol Reminds me of the movie "The Santa Clause" when I see that word.
Anyway…..page number please? Thanks!
It's toward the end, I just happened upon it, maybe in the page 50's or so. I thought it was interesting so I copied it down.
On Page 16, it states, "driveway access and garage door orientation may not face the street or any other common area."
I believe it faces River Road. Am I wrong? Please set me straight. Thanks.
That is an odd requirement and I don't understand garage door orientation… anyway, the DH garage door doesn't face the street. I guess they don't want to look into the garage directly from the street.
On page 23, it says, "vegetation should not be planted directly next to or under roof overhangs." Does that mean the trees that are planted right next to the garage and such, are to be taken out and moved away from our house a bit?
The trees are close to the house but not that close.
It would stink if the trees had to be moved after all that work!
Thanks DeerSpring! I'm feeling better, but I still have some bizarre symptoms as well as an annoying cough. :S Someone was asking about horses on the property — on page 10 of the CC&Rs (see my reply here to beehivestate) it states that only two dogs and/or cats may be kept on the property, and no other types of birds, pets, livestock, etc. are permitted. There is also a link to architectural guidelines:
http://www.rivermeadowsranch.com/downloads/rmr_ar…
This includes a list at the end of all acceptable garden plants, which I think someone else asked about.
Thanks, CplusE. I thought you posted this info before. I'm sorry to hear you're still
feeling the side effects of the flu. Hopefully, you'll be up and running for the reveal
coming up. Your husband is a saint for taking over the cooking for you!
Welcome back Gail!
Hi Gail, glad to see you back. Yeah I'm sure it wasn't all peaceful for Linda until the furniture was in place.
Other than the great room what are the ceiling heights of various rooms? After you see this Dream Home, since I've never had the good fortune to have seen one for myself, which house since Sonoma, considering everything (location, etc.) would you choose? What is your favorite room in this Dream Home? Is there a settee on the juliet balcony? Are there any kids bedrooms, or all older decor?
I think a built in fish tank would be unique. Didn't they do that in the Master Suite, in New Mexico? I remember a last added touch of glass in the wall.
Hi Terri1, I think I will love the master suite best (except for the peek-a-boo bathroom) and I can't wait to see it. I know you didn't ask me lol but I'm just anticipating and wishing.
I like the ceiling height question, since my freakishly tall husband would prefer not to bump his head. In line with that, I would like to ask if they could have a King bed this year in the master suite, as it looks big enough to hold one!
Oh that's a good idea.
Hi Gail, Could you ask the powers that be,if our fav. blogger Beehivestate could be a part of the Dream Home somehow ? She keeps us updated when you & Mary are busy. Thanks, WAYS.
I agree Angelways, beehive has been so fantastic about keeping us all informed of the goin's on at the DH. I think HGTV should buy a couple quilts from her and put them in the DH.
That would be awesome, I love you guys! I'd even be completely satisfied with just a walk-through with Leroy Brown some weekend day!
OMG, I was going to ask the same thing! Mary and Gail, we would just love to take a peek at
Ms. Beehive. Afterall, eventhough she gave us so much information, there still is so many more
questions to be asked as you see. Gail or Mary are there really no energy roof collectors?
As I was saying, Bee should be honored, by just saying hi to us all – we would love that so much.:D
I just want to see inside! I kept my promise not to trespass and I haven't come close to the backyard. Mary, you don't even have to tell anybody!! Just let me in there!!
I think they should interview you for the special, Midway!
Too funny! Can I bring Larson? He's way cuter than me!
SandyLA, there are solar panels 8 of them! Follow this link and go about half way down the page to see one. Uh O, my link didn't work. I'll see if I can go get it again. http://blog.hgtv.com/dreamhome/2011/11/10/new-inf…
Thank you Puy for your efforts. It is very kind of you!
SandyLA,
There are solar panels 8 of them!
So I’ve been told Puycat. But I still do not see them on the pictures. Do you see them?
Yes I saw them, Beehivestate show them in some of her more recent pics as well.
I will have to go back again and take yet another look. Thank you Puycat!
Midway seems to be warmer than Parkcity.
Yes, usually a bit colder in Park City but they are higher than our 5800'. Depends which way the wind is blowing and who gets the storm. If it comes from the south, we get more snow. If it comes from the west coast, PC gets it first.
BTW, the ski resorts are all opening this week, people are so excited! Last weekend there was a fatality d/t avalanche at Snow Bird. He was an extreme skiier out of bounds. It's dangerous this time of year!
Hi Gail! so nice to see you back and i just can not wait until the unvailing of this beautiful home. I could ask many questions but all my questions are pretty much are answered when i see these beautiful homes when all is completed and put before our eyes to see. Each one of these home have been above my dreams and expectations.
Will the deck be sealed so that it retains that rich color?
I'm one of those that don't like the fade to silver of wood.
Hi Nebraska, the deck is most likely the man-made material that doesn't need treatment. They used the same in Stowe. I saw them putting down the decks and it looked like that.
Anything that doesnt show up on the 3D Tour I WANNA SEE!!! lol I want to see EVERYTHING!
My question is: how close is the home to the Provo river? Is there a fence between the backyard and the river? if so, how far of a walking distance is it to the river?
I can't wait to see the tour and more pictures of it all! I'm already loving this home!
laurnie_jo, All the lots in River Meadows Ranch have a split rail fence between them and the river. It's about 60 yards to the river, not far. The river meanders so the distance will vary. You can see the river from the back deck or from the upstairs windows or from the guest suite. It's magnificent. If you want to see more, I have a photostream on http://www.flickr.com under the same screen name as here.
Those pictures are amazing! Thanks! I like how close the river is to the home. But now I have another question: the yard space is bigger than just the area that they planted with grass, right? I hope so!
Yes, the yard is 2.45 acres. The house sits on the middle of two lots so there is room all around that is just meadow grass, it's quite pretty.
Why don't you take a look at Beehivestate's pictures so you can see the actual space? They are
great pictures and show you lots of particulars.
DAILY BUZZ. SATURDAY. I just went by, all the camera crew is gone and the security guy is all by his lonesome, watching. There are many people fishing in the Provo today and yesterday in the Wasatch Wave the fishing report from the Dept. of Wildlife touted the good fishing. They said it was so clear you could practically target the fish you wanted to hook!
I didn't go up the hill to take a picture b/c I was worried about the icy road. BTW, the Coffee Station in Heber makes the best coffee in the Heber Valley. I went there on my way home from The Fit Stop. I had to promise myself if I worked out, I could have a coffee! lol
It's a good thing you didn't go up the hill, nobody here wants you to get hurt. I wish I was fishing in the Provo.
yeah! I'd roll down that hill like a snowball and that would not be too much fun !
Beehive, I guess I got mixedup along the way. Your pictures show me once again that I had correct
thinking all along. The plans seemed to show me something different about the garage door. From
your pictures I can not see any solar panels. Does the sun come out enough to use them? Last
week I was folding laundry on my bed and suddenly out the window I saw two vihicles stop infront
of my house and six different guys got out. One was carring a boom, another a sound machine, and
a third set up a large video camera on a stand. What would you have thought? I did too! HGTV is
here, I am not dressed and my hair isn't combed. Wait we haven't entered anything yet since DIY
gave away the Blog house. My heart went thump thump to a very quiet squish. :S
Sandy, the solar panels are on the back side of the house, over the roof where the master suite is (4 panels) and another 4 panels over the roof between the master and other upper bedroom suite. In my last group of pix for flickr.com under beehivestate, there is a good photo.
What was it, those camera guys? I'd probably have had a heart attack right on the spot, thinking same as you, "it's HGTV!!" and trying to figure out what I'd won.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/6337823… http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/6337073…
Sandy, hi again, here you go, I found the pictures of the solar panels.
We asked for solar panels and we GOT solar panels, huh Beehivestate? And they are where we suggested that they go!! What else would you like to "suggest"? lol
I am so happy to hear that there are solar panels.I couldn’t fathom that they wouldn’t be there!
Sandy,Can you please tell us more about the camra crew? Thanks,WAYS
It was a crew filming a car turning a corner Angelways. Since they didn’t get my permission,it means that it was a film and run “gorilla” groupwho actually did it illegally! It just was such asurprise and really got me excited unnecessarily!
Also, here in southern California when I was young we only had two seasons, Winter and Summer.
The trees were green all year long and there were no leaves to rake up. Then we went to a four
season diet: Flood/mudslides, Fires, Earthquakes, and Drought. Lately we have quieted down and
really have four seasons! Landscapers have been planting non native trees and so the last few
years I have been watching the trees on my own block change colors and now they are dropping
their leaves and I have been sweeping up my neighbors leaves. I put them in my compost bin!! We
have been having cloud cover and some rain during the weekends….where do I live again?
Yes, I have a question, Gail. Where is Jack these days? Has he taken any trips to, oh, say that fabulous state of V I R G I N I A…?
or Pennsylvania in Amish Country?
Or the Garden Isle of Kauai?
Gail…..I was wondering if the chimney had a mesh or something to cover the top so small animals or birds do not get in? That would be helpful! Thank you!
Brenda, it has a chimney cap and I'm sure something to keep birds out.
Thank goodness. No need to worry about eating crow….! Roasting marshmallows over a crackling fire is more than enough excitement I think, without having to worry about uninvited guests.
I was looking at the pictures AGAIN! and noticed…..does the chimney have a screen around it? I guess this answers my question, huh?
I do have a question or questions, are the fireplaces in the house all gas or is there a real one? Another question is how many people does the house sleep, including open-up couches and such. And is there a pathway to the river in the backyard? Oh, and is there a hot tub? Sorry I'm killing you with so many questions.
fdteam, hi there, I think all the fireplaces are gas. I've seen the outdoor one on the back deck and it is gas. Due to environmental concerns with wood burning, most new homes have wood burning fireplaces. And yes, I believe I saw a hot tub on the deck off the game room. A path to the river I have not seen yet.
Thanks, even though the home doesn't have something that everyone wants it will be very nice.
And that's putting it mildly, fdteam!
Gail,
It is so great to see you back!
Are there horses allowed on this property?
Dreaming Big!!!
Louisefaith, no horses on the property but there are boarding facilities very close by, within a quarter mile. People in the Heber Valley love their horses. Before we moved here, my husband came out to look and he said to me "it's horse country." I fell in love with the beautiful countryside and especially the horses.
beehivestate,
Yes, the countryside is so beautiful and especially the horses. I guess our whole family will be living at the horse stables close by.
Thanks for the info-
It's called The Equine Pavillion and it is right across the river from the Dream Home. I will post a picture of the building for you .http://theequinepavilion.com/ I take it you already have horses? You will find so many wonderful places to ride. Wasatch Mountain State Park is only a couple miles away and they have all sorts of trails.
Wow, we will live there!!! My son is Autisitc so even thou it is not a therepy center it would be fanastic for him!!!
Those boarding facilities aamazing. By looking at the website it looks like the horses would be a pleasure to ride/ extremely well care for. i am an equestrian therapist and have an autistic son. It would be great to have a place to work close assuming that they board horses and that it is affordablt to board there. Now who is DREAMING BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We can all keep dreaming. It would be so wonderful for you, Dawn 1968. Good luck.
We will need to ride some when I come out!
I don't know how to ride and I'm afraid!
It's ok. We don't have to……….
Thanksgiving! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAZd6TgUA74&fe…
Happy Thanksgiving, Alice and Soney. We're grateful for you!
Gail, I just got up, it's cold, and snowing again. Does the 2012 HGTV Dream Home have radiant-heated flooring in the bathrooms? That would be such a luxury.
Great question, BHS. I really hope they do — it really warms the tootsies on bathroom tiles!
It's warm here today but woke up to snow this morning. My DH said today reminds him of Seattle weather… just damp. Heated floors would be nice in Seattle, too.
Me, Me! Call on me — both hands are up and waving, Gail. I have a question! With those chilly winter mornings in mind, will the Master Bathroom feature two thick and luxurious 100% Turkish cotton bathrobes monogrammed with the words 'HGTV Dream Home 2012' on them?
Maybe the words 'Midway to Paradise' stitched into the belt?
Come to think of it, I'll take two of them myself, whether I win the Dream Home or not. Just don't leave them hanging anywhere out in the open during those Dream Home house tours. You know how those kind of things disappear — into luggage, handbags, or simply worn out the door as souvenirs. ^_^
I like that idea of DH 12 white terry bathrobes. Please get those. How cool!
Gail
Happy to have you back. Here are a few questions:
1. Will the winner own watershares? If so, how many?
2. Can more of the tall grass surrounding the home be cut to create a larger "yard space"? If so, how
much?
3. Are there water or landscaping restrictions that would prevent the winner from having a home
garden, flowers, or fruit bearing trees, etc.?
Good question. The rights surrounding the use and ownership of water are tricky and complicated. You are right to find out first. They are called riparian rights. I'd like the answer also, since the water is so close to DH and is such an integral part of its landcaping.
So far we only know that upriver and across is a public use area for fishing and it has room for parking. Can the public launch boats from there? Kayaks?
I doubt you'd launch boats on the middle Provo, the river isn't deep enough. However, if you drive down to the south outlet of the river from Deer Creek Reservoir, you can launch boats, tubes, kayaks, or what-have-you and I see them all the time in summer.
Water rights go with ownership of the land, possibly vested in the HOA, as in our community. When you see property for sale around here, the sign always says something like how many water shares are included and that "water shares not for sale separately." Of course you can't farm without owning the water right with the land. You are correct, it is a complex issue.
4. How much are estimated annual HOA fees presently, if any?
5. Do deed restrictions or government codes permit rental of the property?
6. Who will own the land on which the home is built?
7. What type of annual tax schedule is the DH subject to?
8. There seems to be an open space (created by the plinth) underneath the exterior patios? Does it
exist or was it closed during construction?
That's it for now… Thanks for giving us an opportunity to chat with you.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, the HGTV staff, our Blog community, and all of our respective family members.
Gail, because I live in a house with limited closet space, I always hope that we could see pics on the insides of closets or; since that isn't exactly exciting; give us the amount and measurements?
Dawn
Clue us in,Gail. Do the land covenants allow for any kind of coops? Other than DB, of course. Like for playing chicken, picking off sitting ducks, rounding up real turkeys, or chasing wild geese? After all, you know how much bloggers enjoy those wild goose chases, especially when it comes to location clues.
It is a beautiful sunny day today here in Seattle but it is supposed to get very cold in the 20s tonight. Better bring my geraniums in they are so happy in the sun and are still blooming brightly. Our mums are so pretty and are still blooming. Don't have to bring them in they can survive the cold weather. Anyway Soney and I have been singing this really pretty song all morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCTSIm6_0ik&fe…
Don't you just love Stevie Wonder's music? Thank you.
For Beehivestate for all you do: (If this works, I will be surprised. This is the first time for me!)
http://youtu.be/QwOU3bnuU0k
Like! Thanks.
Thanks, alice. Stevie Wonder is a national treasure.
My favorite album is "Songs From the Key of LIfe," which goes back to the 80's.
bee, I am of the era when it was a big deal, waiting for a musician's new album to be released, then buying it with money earned and saved. Then, hours spent listening to the album, and in the case of "Songs", reading all of Stevie's lyrics printed on the album liners. So many great songs on this one !
Yes, me too. I didn't have very many albums and over the years, after I married, we accumulated more. In 2006 when we were getting ready to move to Utah, we sold them all at Half Price Books. Lots of jazz albums, those we got the most money for. The first record I ever bought was a 45, it was Andy Williams' “St. Bernadette”! How's that for trivia?!
welcome back
Gail,
Can you take a picture of the game room? Also what is the best feature of the game room?
I also want to know what type of hot tub is on the back porch?
WATTLE IT BE?
A Turkey's Thanksgiving Lament
Homer the wattle-chinned turkey
Stuck to his single refrain
No way, he sang, would turkeys
E'er grace man's table again.
All of the other turkeys
Would laugh and call him insane
They never believed ol' Homer,
Didn't hear a word he's sayin'.
Then one cold November morn
Farmer Coop stopped by to say
"Homer, with your legs so plump
You won't last another day."
Homer knew right then and there
It was time to try his plan
So he dressed up as a goose
Sure that would fool the old man.
Came the time, that fateful hour
To Homer's awful surprise,
The wise farmer said with glee
"A wattle with plump goose thighs!"
And so it was, thus it went
On that crisp November day
Homer left the farm by truck
Freshly plucked and on his way.
The moral of the story is?
One's fate you can't delay
When it comes to feathered fowl
Your wattle gives you away.
Happy Thanksgiving, from DB Coop.
Also known as "Your Goose is Cooked!"
Enjoyed the poem. Are published?
Hi Gail and nice to see you back. The homes that HGTV creates for their giveaways have always made me dream of owning one. As I have a handicap Daughter in a wheelchair I was wondering how accessible is this home for someone in a wheelchair? The wide open space(s) would be great for my daughter and I to explore the outdoors. We can not wait to see the video tour of this beautiful home and start entering the contest.
Here's to dreaming BIG!!! and hope to see you soon.
Some of us bloggers have asked from the beginning to have an accessible main floor at the very least, gummybear.
Gail, I enjoy your enthusiasm and expressive qualities! My major question concerns the use of
window treatments. The view will definitely be the feature that makes this home a standout for the
winner, but sometimes there's a need for window treatment. Last year's home had Lutron Shades.
What kind of window treatment is there at this year's home besides the black paper to keep
prying eyes from seeing inside!
Also, will there be any quilts displayed or in use in the Dream Home?
Julie Nester's Gallery reports that 8 of their artists will have work featured in the Dream Home.
Can you spill the beans and tell us about one of the artists chosen? Thank you.
My final question was "Will there be a cash prize this year?", but I actually found the answer to this
question. Yes!
http://connect2utah.com/search-fulltext?nxd_id=16…
Hi DeerSpring. I loved those Lutron shades. So far all I've seen in this year's home as far as in our "sneak peeks" are the wood blinds with the "tapes" in the commercial. Plantation shutters are considered "very upscale" and desirable in this area. We'll see pretty soon.
What's the cash prize? I didn't catch it i the video.
If you start the video at about the 3 minute 40 second mark, beehivestate, you will hear John Gidding mention that the Dream Home will come with a GMC vehicle and $500,000 cash.
We have to assume he'd know the details, so half a mil along with the home and vehicle is really not a bad deal, don't you think?
Of course, for those who wish to wring their hands and wonder about the taxes on winning such a rich package, the stress of entering and then worrying about possibly winning might be too much a burden. Best not to chance it.
I know there are plenty of other brave souls who are ready and willing to take on such a sacrifice for the common good of all. Leave entering the sweeps to the adventurous and the strong! ^_^
As I always say when I want something, “this or something better for the highest good of all concerned. Thank you thank you thank you” There, that's my affirmation and I'm taking a page out of Wyoming Girl's book where it comes to mentioning the “T” word.
I just KNEW the "T" word would be mentioned again. Especially since we are getting closer to "the date!"
Good post! LOL.
According to another online source: The 2012 Dream Home … prize package includes the home and any furnishings and decorations with it, a 2011-12 GMC product, and $500,000 in cash. The winner also receives several Bissell brand products. The home will possibly have an outdoor "Doggy Dream Home" for 1 or more dogs to sleep in. The house is almost 4,000 square-feet, and is a grand package [with an ARV] of over $2,000,000.00 dollars.
Thanks for the information, Coop. Gail's favorite HGTV video was the one where
she went inside the dog house. My next question for Gail will be "Are you going inside
the 2012 Dream Home dog house if there is one?".
Ah yes, I remember that video very well with Gail scrunched up inside the Doggie Dream Home.
Once again, this home calls for a ranch size Doggie Dream Home Duplex. Guess I'll have to adopt a couple of good-sized doggie friends — Rough and Ready — with a side for each. Terri will insist on a guest room of her very own.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate knowing. People in Midway ask me all the time.
Hi Coop, I wonder if I could see the DDH from the back fence line? Hmmm… oh no, it's snowy and wet back there now, too bad.
Beehive, thanks. I haven't seen the commercial yet, but I will try to view it soon. Plantation
shutters will be good, too!
They are beaUTiful but I had shutters in our last home and didn't want them again so I went with the Hunter-Douglas up-down window shades. They are perfect for light, privacy, and insulation.
What are plantation shutters?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think plantation shutters are also when you get goose bumps, shivers and shakes the moment you answer the doorbell and it's Jamie Durie telling you you've just won the Dream Home 2012 Rambling Ranch.
I think that's the kind of plantation shutters I'd love to have. Of course, I'd also sputter, stutter, shake, twist and shout!
Oh wait a minute — wouldn't that be plantation shudders? Okay, never mind. :p
Count me in for those, too. You have a way with words.
Fantastic! The Super Fan is back! I can't wait!!!
We want the Master bedroom suite. The fabulous one which runs the width of the house. That one!
Also, I have noticed that some colors are hard to determine in the differing lights: The mosaic tile in the master bath (orange tones) Orange tones in sunlight then brown and darker in indirect light. And the kitchen cabinets and island color palette. Cream or pale-sun yellow?
Both rooms are fabulous, I could not DREAM UP a more spectacular space, (I'm including the great room – the part which we can see) This will be a flat-out dream, dream home and Dec 1 will be a very good day for videos! Thanks for the update. After seeing that glowing orange tile in the bath, I'm pumped. (Reminds me of the mesas and canyons of the Utah rough country.)
Are we going to get to see the insides of the closets/storage spots this year?
Great question. I really hope the answer is "yes" from our Super Fan. We're always wondering about storage and closets in every home, aren't we?
Since I was out of town all weekend, for my 83-year-old mother's wedding to her college sweetheart, (insert "ahhhhhhh" here) it is taking me a little bit of time to get caught up. How wonderful that we have a vlog from our awesome Super Fan Gail. It's hard to think of questions until we see the 360 tour (coming soon!). I know that a lot of people like to know square footage or dimensions of individual rooms, since we usually just get the square footage of the entire house, so I'd ask of Gail if we can get dimensions of some of the rooms to help us with our perspective.
Congratulations to your mother and her college sweetheart!
I second that! Every day is a good day when you have the one you love by your side.
Hope and the potential for happiness spring eternal in the human heart…. Your mother's wedding is such an inspirational event. What a beautiful tribute to the ability to love and be loved at any age. Such events should strengthen our faith and demonstrate that with patience, we may receive the desires of our hearts in the years to come. Life should be lived with an expectancy that good things are always possible, regardless of race, sex, age, financial or social condition, etc. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you….
"aahhhhhh"!!!!!!
and AWWWW !! So wonderful ! Now I want to know who were the maid of honor and best man, Wyo ?? <3 to your mom, the newlywed !
They didn't have any attendants, LL, but many family members participated. My brother is a pastor, and he and his wife officiated. One brother from each side spoke, and two others signed the license as witnesses. His daughter made the wedding rings and presented them, and my husband was the photographer. Thanks for the good wishes!
Too special–what a great family you have !
You're very sweet, granintx, and your words are touching. Thanks for the thoughts.
I knew there was hope for me.
OK, I'll ask some easy questions, Gail… What local touches did they incorporate into the 2012 dream home? Which rooms have the best views of the river or the mountains? (show actual indoor shot videos or photos) Are there outdoor entertaining or gardening features we should be aware of at the 2012 dream home?
Wow Gail! There are tons of questions on here for you to answer. I noticed some has been mentioned at least twice. Just sayin'. No pressure!
Looks as if I am going to be cooking for twelve people on Thursday!!! Any one else want to join us? I will set an extra setting just in case!
New post from Mary just now, guys!
Thank you!
Here's another question – I hope it is not too late to ask. Where is the downstairs powder room? I can't see one on the floor plan. There is what looks like a closet to the left of the kitchen – is that where it will be? Or under the stairs? I am assuming there is one, since the two other bathrooms on that floor can only be accessed by going through a guest bedroom.
When will you visit? Soon, I hope!
People are always wondering about a first floor powder room in every HGTV home, aren't they? I think it's because this home is so beautiful that folks would want to entertain often. I think someone mentioned a while back that there is a powder room and it is right underneath the number 6 on the floorplan. The left side is a closet for that bedroom, but the right side is a powder room. Here's the floorplan again, so you don't have to search for it. http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20…
Thanks for that reply, Wyo_Girl. I think that room "under the 6" is the same one that I was calling a closet next to the kitchen. If that is the powder room, I wonder if there is a coat closet somewhere. That would be nice for entertaining, also. There is the mudroom, but guests would not usually be entering from the garage.
Gail, can you tell us if you'll be in the dog house again this year? Or if there's even a dog house to get in to?
Terri wants to know. Oh, and she says it has to be big enough for a sleeping AND sitting area. Otherwise, she's threatening to take over the Guest Wing of the Dream Home.
Gail- I was curious if you can find out how much utilities have been over the past few months? It would be very appreciated!!
Thank you in advance.
Not sure. Maybe the doggie dream home? Will see next Thursday. I guess the whole riverfront could be considered a “feature.”
