An Artful Take on HGTV Dream Home

During our trip to Midway, visual designer Jason Kisner created this video preview of HGTV Dream Home 2012. I think it really captures the quiet beauty of the home and the property. Enjoy … and don’t forget to visit on December 1 around 9 a.m. ET when our virtual home tour launches.

  1. Awesome, Mary! Thanks Jason. Loved seeing the curtains, fireplace, the deck, and I think I saw a gate in the back fence. Did anybody else see that? Lucky me, I'm the first to see it all.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 4:08 pm
    • Was that a gate or a stile? My first thought was the latter, just because of the angles.

stephenwnagy on November 21, 2011 at 5:53 pm
      • Whatever it is, it wasn't there before, so it has to be some way to “gate” the fence and go down to the river.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 9:17 pm
        • It's a ladder over both sides.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 9:25 pm
        • or climb over

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 10:02 pm
    • Beehive, now we know what the window treatment for one more room will be. I loved the chair
and pillow. I still think we should have a picture of you sitting on the fence with one of the HGTV
personalities in a casual neighborly pose!

DeerSpring on November 22, 2011 at 7:34 pm
  2. The landscape is beautiful. I love it.

    • So do I.

granintx on November 22, 2011 at 11:14 am
  3. Nope. That's just a ladder thing to crawl over the fence!!! lol :p

BrendainKs on November 21, 2011 at 4:15 pm
    • You're right.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 10:03 pm
      • Actually, I was just joking when I said that. But that's what it looks like! :)

BrendainKs on November 22, 2011 at 10:41 am
    • I learned a new word from stephenwnagy. I didn't know that a ladder like that is called a "stile".

  4. Mary……EVERYTHING is beaUTiful!!! :) I can't wait to walk through the house with Jack and Linda!! :)

  5. Loved the peek. So serene and peaceful. So looking forward to touring the entire house!

  6. So this is a little self-serving, sorry — but thanks for posting this on my birthday! I love Midway. It's like a little piece of heaven that restores my soul when I visit and I can't visit today, but this is the next best thing!

WishingforIt on November 21, 2011 at 5:50 pm
    • Happy Birthday!!!

BrendainKs on November 21, 2011 at 6:07 pm
      • Thanks, Brenda – I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving planned with special friends and family.

WishingforIt on November 21, 2011 at 6:11 pm
        • I don't know if you saw my post, but I am having twelve family members at my house for Thanksgiving! It's going to be a GREAT time! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving also!

BrendainKs on November 21, 2011 at 9:13 pm
          • Have you started cooking some things yet ? or at least preparing?

SandyLA on November 22, 2011 at 8:01 pm
          • My sister is bringing some pies over; Chocolate Cream and something else. But I usually make everything that day. For some reason, I don't like to have anyone in my kitchen "helping" me, maybe because I have had to do it all by myself for so many years, I am used to doing things myself. I will have to get over that huh, Beehivestate! :)

Anyway, I make turkey, "real" stuffing (not StoveTop, but I like that too), real mashed potatoes, gravy (out of a jar) lol , crock pot corn, green been cassarole, Hawaiian rolls, and I think that's about all.

BrendainKs on November 23, 2011 at 10:20 am
          • Brenda, you might look at Feng Shui books for attracting. If nothing else, there are some fun ideas and something to think about. It's great to be self-sufficient AND to have company, both! You are on the right track, keep being grateful for your prosperity and for what you do have. I believe that is the "secret" for attracting good things to your life.

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 11:56 am
          • Thank you!!! I've heard of those books and I may try them!!!

            I completely agree with you!!

BrendainKs on November 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm
          • Some will say this is “silly,” but in the spirit of Feng Shui, I keep a dollar bill under my front porch mat to signify “money is always welcome here.” Every time I come in my front door, I smile. I may “up” it to a $10 bill this year, since I'm getting older and I need that money to hurry up lol. Every time something good happens to me, even a small thing like getting an unexpected rebate on something, I write it in my prosperity journal. Sometimes I even cut out pictures of things I want and put them in that journal. It's fun to look back and see what I “wanted” last year and if I still want it or if it came true.

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 12:59 pm
          • GREAT idea!!! :)

BrendainKs on November 24, 2011 at 9:42 am
          • Funny I should mention unexpected rebates because yesterday's mail brought my DH and I each a refund “check” of $17.70, each, from Bank of America for some kind of class action thing. Here comes my money!!

beehivestate on November 24, 2011 at 12:22 pm
          • Congratulations!!

BrendainKs on November 24, 2011 at 9:49 pm
          • And I forgot to say, this year I am very “fixated” on houses! Pictures of houses fill my iPhoto albums, they are all old houses but the HGTV Dream Home is supposed to look like an “old house,” so who knows?!

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm
          • Sorry, I can't remember everything in one post (it's that “old” thing again), but I was going to say get the books from the library for free, or from a used bookstore.

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 1:02 pm
          • I will check it out!! Thank you!!

BrendainKs on November 24, 2011 at 9:49 pm
          • Then there were three. I feel very pushed and rushed when someone even comes in to “help”me. Leave me alone and be thankful that I am serving you a meal by golly!

SandyLA on November 23, 2011 at 7:23 pm
          • It takes three or four hours to make Thanksgiving dinner and only fifteen minutes to eat it.

BrendainKs on November 23, 2011 at 10:06 pm
          • Brenda, Some how it takes me days to do it  all, but I love doing it. I just wished my whole family could come and all be together at the same time. And you are correct, it gone in a wink! But there are always smiles!!

SandyLA on November 24, 2011 at 1:08 pm
          • I LOVE to cook for my family! But sometimes mother's don't get the credit or appreciation they deserve!

BrendainKs on November 24, 2011 at 9:51 pm
          • I went to the store yesterday and forgot my list. But I DID get a turkey and it's in my fridge.

BrendainKs on November 23, 2011 at 10:21 am
          • That is the best start!  I’ve got the table set and the salads made and the house is clean. I rarely remember my list so we have at least two things in common. (smiley face)

beehivestate on November 22, 2011 at 4:33 pm
          • I for one am assuming that this is your 30th Birthday. Happy Belated Birthday!

SandyLA on November 22, 2011 at 8:06 pm
          • Good morning SandyLA. One of my favorite birthdays was my 50th. My sister made a cake in the shape of a mountain because we love hiking, and as the frosting said "what does #1 have in common with a mountain?" (older than dirt! because I'm the oldest sister). We lost one sister soon after that, it always reminds me that having another birthday is a plus in every way!

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 11:59 am
          • I'm sorry for your loss.

BrendainKs on November 23, 2011 at 1:21 pm
          • Um, yes, I'll agree it must have been the 30th (pleading the 5th amendment here) — but I have to agree with Beehive — these "0" birthdays are definitely round….. at least I'm getting rounder with each one!

WishingforIt on November 23, 2011 at 6:59 pm
          • Wishingforit, thank you for your answer. I didn’t understand why the roundness had had come. Now I understand that it has to do with the number of zeros I’ve had.

SandyLA on November 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm
    • Happy (Belated) Birthday! Hope you have many — many more to come!

granintx on November 22, 2011 at 11:12 am
      • Thank you so much! I was kind of dreading the day, but even my co-workers made it special. I'm actually sad it's over, it was so much fun!

WishingforIt on November 22, 2011 at 11:56 am
        • You are making me think back on memorable birthdays, and that's a good thing! The year I was 60, we were in Park City and looking around for a new home. My husband treated me to a whole day at the Align Spa. I had a facial, a sugar scrub massage, a pedicure, and etc. It was so decadant and I got a robe to take home and several beauty products. That year I had broken my leg and was walking with a cane and this day of pampering was exactly perfect. We were staying at The Miners Club at the Canyons and it was the year I met our son's future wife. It was all good!

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 12:02 pm
          • That's sounds heavenly! Everyone deserves at least one day to feel cherished and pampered. Wish we had 1 a week! With this birthday, came a newly refinished wood floor (hubby even cleaned up the entire mess and cleaned the house prior to my birthday surprise), and a new stove. The old one was 13 years and couldn't keep a steady temp to save its life. Today I am rocking and rolling on Thanksgiving items — pies, cranberry sauce, the works! Loving the day off to putter around and get ready for the holiday. I hope you have a wonderful day!

WishingforIt on November 23, 2011 at 7:02 pm
          • Thank you, Wishingforit! Your b.d. sounds dreamy. Now your home is all ready for the holidays. We are having dinner today at our son's and they are cooking so all we had to do was make bread and a green salad. Easy-peasy! Our daughter-in-law's b.d. is Monday so I made up a gift basket for her with kitchen specialty items and a cute wire basket from the Sundance store. My favorite thing I put in there was an old jar that I got many years ago at an antique store, it says “Reliance,” and I think it was a coffee jar. Anyway, she likes antique stuff and I filled it with almonds that I toasted… threw in a few new decorative dishcloths, some jam, specialty food items from The Store in Midway and some chocolate. I think it will go over good. You have a fabulous day tomorrow. I'll be relaxing and doing basically nothing.

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 7:15 pm
          • Can you be MY friend? Or your daughter-in-law or something? You give GREAT gifts!!

          • Oh sure, done deal.

beehivestate on November 23, 2011 at 11:47 pm
          • Of course, I would want you for a friend for more than just the gifts you give. I love your personality, lovingness, compassion, you are wise and you are goofy sometimes too!!

I can't wait to meet you and give you a GREAT BIG hug!!! ^_^

    Wyo_Girl on November 21, 2011 at 6:10 pm
    • Did you see the green accents in the master bedroom? So pretty with the chocolate brown dresser, even a bowl of pears on the ottoman.

  10. I Particularly liked the movement of the grasses, and how he filmed the floral arrangement in front of the fireplace, and carried on the movement theme. Cleverly done, I can appreciate what a visual designer does.

AnneEliseSouth on November 21, 2011 at 8:29 pm
  11. I love the chair and pillows in the master suite/bedroom? (green walls) and yes, I think Brenda is right, that is a ladder over both sides of the fence. I personally will just step over, it's not that high.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 9:23 pm
    • Good enough, Jason. I watched it over several times.

beehivestate on November 21, 2011 at 10:07 pm
      • Did you notice how Jason got the shot of the pillows in the master bdrm. and followed it with outdoor footage, featuring a tree in the distance with the same green shades in the smaller pillow ? Too cool.

LLColeman on November 22, 2011 at 2:08 am

        • Yes, I did, absolutely beautiful. So far I like the colors!!

SandyLA on November 22, 2011 at 8:10 pm
    • I am guessing that the first shot of a room, the one with the pumpkin colored walls and beige stool with throw is the mastenr suite; but the second room, with green walls, might be the guest suite above the game room.

      Addy243 on November 22, 2011 at 5:40 am
      • Good morning Addy243. Previously they showed us the upstairs guest suite has blue walls. And the master sitting room, pumpkin, and the master bedroom, green. Go back to the videos where the talk about the bedrooms. I'll go look again later.

beehivestate on November 22, 2011 at 11:29 am
        • Oh, you're right. But wait, wasn't the pumpkin the master room, green the sitting room? Oh, well, I guess it doesn't matter, we'll know soon enough. :)

          Addy243 on November 22, 2011 at 2:31 pm
  12. Mary,
This home takes my breath away. I love the big chair with a green pillow. I know the perfect person that would love this chair.
The white flowers are so beautiful!
I can just picture running through the fields with my husband, dogs and children. We would run straight to the stables.
    Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on November 21, 2011 at 10:38 pm
    • You CAN run straight to the stables, technically, but you have to cross the river unless you detour over to the bridge. I love that big chair, too. See you in Midway! Good luck.

  15. Wow, Super Editor Mary is Back — and presenting us with a gorgeous video (thanks Jason Kisner) — just in case we weren't ALREADY in love with this Midway Dream Home.

I can just imagine a lazy, late summer afternoon as Lassie comes bounding over the split rail fence, through the tall meadow grasses and onto the back patio, with tail wagging happily. Or Terri for that matter. Except that Terri would simply run UNDER the split rail fence and disappear in the tall grass before bursting on to the scene, looking for a gentle pat on the head followed by a special liver flavored treat.

Hard to say who would enjoy this Dream Home more!

DBCoop on November 21, 2011 at 11:12 pm
  16. By the way, watching this video on full screen is so awesome. That Provo River is so beautiful. Did I mention that those mountain views are beautiful? Have I failed to rapsodize over the beauty of the surrounding meadowlands? Should I rave once again about that impressive Great Room. It's all so … you'd never guess — beautiful!!

DBCoop on November 21, 2011 at 11:19 pm
    • Full screen is better! More realistic and makes you feel you are there! Oh, I WISH I WAS THERE!!!

BrendainKs on November 22, 2011 at 10:47 am
      • I AM there and it IS that beautiful.

  17. The tall grass, the leaves on the trees, and even the flowers in the house are swaying to the calming,
relaxing breeze of serenity in Jason Kisner's video. After recovering from a hynoptic, mind calming
moment, I started noticing the details of the decoration. Linda Woodrum, I'm falling hook, line, and
    sinker for this home!

The Quick Vote on the frontpage reveals that 42% of us would enjoy a cocktail on the back deck if
we won the Dream Home. 32% of us would take a hike and 18% would fly fish! We have an
ambitious 8% who would mountain bike if they won the Dream Home. It's a contrast in study
going from this blog's serene moment to the world of sports on the Quick Vote page.

DeerSpring on November 22, 2011 at 9:04 am
    • Wow, I never even saw that poll yet but I'd have to hike for sure.

beehivestate on November 22, 2011 at 11:40 am
      • I could see the 42% enjoying a cocktail or coffee on the deck taking in the serene, natural view
but the remaining 58% will be all over the place with the hiking, fishing, and mountain biking.
I tip my hat to the 8% who will be cycling uphill in the hilly areas!

DeerSpring on November 22, 2011 at 7:41 pm
        • In Utah, the 42% and the 8% would be reversed!

beehivestate on November 22, 2011 at 7:59 pm
    • Yes, there I am now, taking a short hike down the stone pathway to the split rail fence stile, climbing over, hopping on my mountain bike, and riding along the river bank until I find the perfect spot for fly fishing. Just then, Terri comes bounding out of the meadow grass onto the back deck and startles me out of my reverie…almost causing me to spill my cocktail.

Reality sets in, and a smile spreads across my face as I realize that you CAN have it all when you're the lucky winner of this amazing Dream Home that's More Than Midway to Paradise!

DBCoop on November 22, 2011 at 1:19 pm

        experience, real or not.

DeerSpring on November 22, 2011 at 7:50 pm
    • DeerSpring, I would take a hike to the back deck, and enjoy my cocktail upon my return from having mountain biked over to the fishing hole. Having done this I will have scored 100% with voting bloggers.

      • AnneElise, it looks like you will have it 100% under control with a balance of fine living and an

  18. Beautiful. I really want this to be my happily ever after home!!! Just watched the videos of the kitchen and master bath. Cannot tell you how beautiful I really think this home and it's location is. Absolutely in love with the tiles in the master bath and their colors! And the kitchen is perfect. I will be dreaming about this house.

  19. Just like everyone else, I'm in LOVE! So far, the house looks perfect. I can barely wait 'til Dec 1- and only barely because I have no choice!! Thanks to Beehive, we all feel so connected to this house more than any of the other DHs. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  20. Oooh, awh, this was so serene, but waiting in much awaited anticipation for the rest of the videos.

I see on the last questionaire that having a cocktail on the back porch is in the lead, with hicking second place.

I love the name Hebrew Valley, and maybe Provo means something.

    Terri1 on November 22, 2011 at 11:13 am
    • Heber Valley is named after an early pioneer and "Provo" is after Etienne Provost, a trapper who founded the early settlement.

  24. It appears that Mary and crew have brought out the heavy equipment, and are hard at work on the Green Home and Urban Oasis blogs. I hope that they are able to get the blog lanes reopened in time for the mad Thanksgiving crush. If not, we may just have to go cold turkey until after the coming holiday and weekend.

I guess we can keep watching Jeff Kisner's peaceful yet inspiring video preview of the Dream Home to keep us happily dreaming until the HGTV crews under Mary's professional guidance have the new and improved blog format up and running for our entertainment.

Gee, I hope we don't have to learn too much new blog wizardry to figure out how to run the thing. Guess we'll just take a test drive or two and learn by trial and error. Trial by fire and mostly error in my case! ^_^

  25. For some reason, Coop, I picture you in a room full of books sitting in a leather chair, reading a book, and smoking a pipe with Cherry tobacco.

You seem like you have that sophisticated sense about you.

  26. Whoa, a new video and blog thread! It just isn't fair that the Blog Cabin has been at the same thread since Nov 2 and the Dream Home has had 5 blog threads in that time span. I'm dying for floor plans on that "other blog". Oh well, that's the way it goes…everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Can't wait for the big reveal on Dec. 1.

  27. While looking at the video for the umpteenth time….I noticed that the hills and mountains, to me, represent God's fingers, and our house is sitting in the palm of His hand, protecting the house from any danger that may come.

  28. To all our friends Alice and Soney wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. C&E get well soon take care of yourself we need you here. Bee another red barn for you. Stay warm and cozy everyone and give thanks for all your blessings. Took time out yesterday to talk to a homeless person, very sad story. I never give them money because I don't have much but sometimes they just need a kind word and someone to talk to. Let's hope they get a warm meal on Thanksgiving. Take care everyone and as Red Skelton used to say "Good night and may God Bless". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rweU-FFE6Ww&fe

  29. I've asked the folks at Scripps Networks where we can buy the monogrammed HGTV Dream Home 2012 terry cloth bathrobe. Maybe I'll get an answer in time for holiday gift-giving. If so, I'll be sure to share it with y'all.

  30. Mary, I have a small request for you. Do you think you could get Jason Kisner to produce a longer scenic video of the Midway Dream Home set to the music of Vivaldi's Four Seasons?

I have just such a treasured dvd of the Napa Valley wine country set to scenes of the vineyards, mountains and meadows that showcases the haunting beauty of each passing season. I replay it at least once a year to remind myself of my hometown's delightful landscape and year-round attractions.

A dreamy dvd of Dream Home 2012 set amidst the beauty of Heber Valley with its magical and meandering Provo River and the impressive silouette of the Wasatch Mountains through each of the four distinctive seasons would be a must-have on every dreamers gift list. :D

DBCoop on November 22, 2011 at 7:39 pm
    • Good idea, Coop–the perfect music for that project ! My grandchildren listened to a 'Four Seasons' CD( on repeat play) all night/ every night as soft background music for them to sleep to for the first 4 yr.s of their lives…I am sure they know every note of each movement ; it is our family's favorite Vivaldi work. I never grow tired of it.

LLColeman on November 23, 2011 at 2:36 am
  31. I was thinking along the same line Coop, I wish that Jason could come out right now and make the
same video (correct word?) with the snow all around. We have seen a beautiful fall and I can kind'a
imagine winter, but would appreciate a look-see. Linda, I am enthusiastic about what I see today.
The color, the texture, the lines that I see on such a smidgen of a look are so appreciated. They are
great. I am hoping that you will tell Gail (so she can tell us) where you bought each of the idems
inside the house. I don't think I have seen all the things others have, but I will wait until 12/1 !!

  32. DAILY BUZZ. TUESDAY. It was a gorgeous day so my husband and I took a long walk this afternoon, looking for pictures, and stopping at the Fill'er Up for coffee. I was quite taken with the weathervanes, especially the "Pegasus," and with the old houses, reflections in windows of the antique store, and the rural vibe. I even saw an old house (23 West) that was "HGTV Dream House 2012" BLUE! Maybe Linda Woodrum got her color inspiration here?

I'm no "visual designer", so if country ambience isn't your thing, skip this. Otherwise, play it on "slideshow" and MAY YOUR CUP OVERFLOW! Happy Thanksgiving and HGTV, we're glad you're here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67137540@N05/sets/72

    • What a gift to share with us, Beehive !! Now this really IS " An Artful Take on HGTV DH", thanks to you as well. The last building (house?) in your slideshow appears to be made of old adobe/earthen "bricks". Would that not make a fantastic gingerbread house made of gingerbread "Bricks" , with white frosting in between them ? That real life gingerbread detailing on the Victorian house you also pictured is beautiful. You have such a great eye for the best things ! I know Victoria Lesser, the Blog Cabin designer, would absolutely love your photos ! You just might consider entertaining the poor, stranded blogging lambs over on the Blog Cabin site( as we bleat for floor plans or at least a new post) with some of your photos……..<3

      • Thanks, LL. I have fallen in love with the old houses. I met a young woman at the Coffee Station in Heber who owns one of these gems. Their next-door neighbor is an old man who was actually born in the house they now own. She said the house is drafty and has only one “original” window but they love working on it and her husband has already redone the kitchen. She is going to see about getting their house on the National Register of Historic Places. I have started driving around, going different ways every time, so I can “find” new old houses. I always have my camera with me. The other thing that's fun is to look at people's front porches and how they decorate or not. I have a whole photo file on that subject!

    • Thanks, LL. I had to crop that photo but he was holding an old clicker TV remote I gave him. He loves anything with dials and buttons so I'm sure he will be a big HGTV fan, along with his Grandma. He always has a big smile and even though he can't talk yet, I know he's telling me "don't worry be happy!"

  37. I said it, you've read it — but once again, just in time to wish fellow dreamers a Happy Thanksgiving, a simple poem with salutations for the holiday from Terri, Homer and me!

    YOUR GOOSE IS COOKED!
    A Turkey's Thanksgiving Lament

    Homer the wattle-chinned turkey
    Stuck to his single refrain
No way, he sang, would turkeys
    E'er grace man's table again.

    All of the other turkeys
Would laugh and call him insane
    They never believed ol' Homer,
    Didn't hear a word he's sayin'.

    Then one cold November morn
Farmer Coop stopped by to say
"Homer, with your legs so plump
    You won't last another day."

Homer knew right then and there
It was time to try his plan
So he dressed up as a goose
Sure that would fool the old man.

Came the time, that fateful hour
    To Homer's awful surprise,
The wise farmer said with glee
"A wattle with plump goose thighs!"

And so it was, thus it went
    On that crisp November day
Homer left the farm by truck
Freshly plucked and on his way.

The moral of the story is?
    One's fate you can't delay
When it comes to feathered fowl
    Your wattle gives you away.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, y'all, from DB Coop. And that goes for Mary and crew, too! Put aside those blog construction hard-hats and enjoy a traditional Thursday Turkey timeout. ^_^

    • For those who eat too much on Thanksgiving Day, you might say that 'the WADDLE' gives you away.

LLColeman on November 24, 2011 at 3:14 am
  38. Now we're in a REAL pickle here in the blogs, just in time for Thanksgiving. Our choices are slim. The Dream Home blog is also under the construction warning flag. Is that kosher? Our bread and butter — out of reach. Not so sweet at all. Nothing left to do but dill-y around.

The Dream Home banner poll vote is now closed. On top of it all, Homer's not even around to tease any more. No Urban Oasis 2012 location clues wild goose chase. No Green Home to go with our pumpkin pie. Nothing left to do but sit and watch the turkey slowly turn golden brown in the oven while the enticing smells of thanksgiving dinner fill the air.

I hope Mary gets her new and improved blog format work done before Thanksgiving Day, or there'll be no after-dinner dessert for any of us!

DBCoop on November 23, 2011 at 2:04 pm
    • I guess the HGTV float will have to make up for it all..(.why don't they put one in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade ? Then bloggers will have some 'meat on the bone' until the hiatus is over.)

  39. Here's wishing D B Cooper a happy anniversary, wherever he may be … ;)

For it was 40 years ago Thursday, November 24, that the mysterious skyjacker vanished out the back of a Boeing 727 wearing a business suit, a parachute and a pack with $200,000 in ransom money.

Could D B Cooper have survived the jump during a driving rainstorm? The temperature at 10,000 feet was 7 below zero, not including the minus-70 wind chill. Not exactly beach weather.

If D B Cooper is still alive today, he probably strongly favors tropical temps and exotic locations — all the better to forget the life-threatening perils that he faced during his descent into a rugged, cold and inhospitable forest.

Maybe he put that $200,000 to good use in the stock market back then, parlaying his stash into a very comfortable multi-million dollar nest egg.

You never know. Stranger things have happened!
