There’s More to Come

Hello again! Just wanted to let everyone know that just because I can no longer show up every day and tease you with a state elimination or cryptic clue, it doesn’t mean the blog is going away. Since we’re all having so much fun, we’ve decided to keep it going. Check back regularly for the latest updates on progress at the construction site in Islamorada.

We’re not going to be adding daily posts (“Today, three light fixtures were installed in the kitchen!”), at least for the time being, but I’ll try to find something to yammer on about at least once a week. And I’ll try to bring you some sneak previews of the home along the way, maybe even an early look at one of the more highly anticipated rooms.

For today, here are a couple of fun facts about the HGTV Dream Home blog so far.

It looks like the first person to guess the correct location was Sandra, who submitted this comment on Feb. 21:
“I think the next Dream Home should be in Islamorada, Florida. The Gulf on the west side of the road and the Atlantic on the east side. Beautiful sunrises over the Atlantic and gorgeous sunsets over the Gulf. What more could you ask for!”

And by my totally unscientific survey, it looks like Florida was the most popular location. There are 1,428 blog comments that mention Florida. A few of the other popular states: 1,037 for California, 839 for Washington, 689 for Hawaii, 562 for Arizona, 363 for North Carolina. And among locations outside the United States, Puerto Rico was far and away the most popular with 63 comments. Costa Rica was also popular, and at least one of you wants an HGTV Dream Home in Loch Ness, Scotland.

And a lot of you are asking when you can enter for a chance to win the Islamorada home. Hang on, HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2008 is scheduled to begin on Jan. 1, 2008. For other questions, please read the official rules of HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2007 for information on how the winner is chosen and how they are contacted.

HGTV Dream Home 2008 Location: We’re Going to the Florida Keys!

We know we missed the deadline, but we said we’d make it up to you and we hope we can! The O’Neills going on the Oprah Winfrey Show was not part of the unforeseen circumstances that prevented us from revealing the location when we had originally planned. An HGTV Dream Home is a very complicated project, and unexpected delays meant we had to hold off on the announcement until this week.

But today we’ve got three exciting new HGTV Dream Home videos on the site. You can get a glimpse into the hectic schedule the O’Neills faced in the days after winning the HGTV Dream Home. Then, go along as Bob and Lorie visit the Winter Park home for the first time and get a guided tour from house planner Jack Thomasson and designer Linda Woodrum. Finally, and best of all, ride along with Thomasson as he cruises the Florida Keys and shows off the location for HGTV Dream Home 2008.

Five Big Favorites Taken Out

All right, we’ve been hearing a lot of comments for the next HGTV Dream Home to be located in one of these states. I’m here to tell you today, it’s not going to happen.

Arizona
“The next HGTV Dream House should be in Sedona Arizona which is the most beautiful place on earth. Sweeping mountains and pines in every direction. A very healing place to live.”

Arkansas
“Flippin, Arkansas! It’s on Bull Shoals Lake, 76 miles into Missouri, and it’s in the Ozark Mountains, close to Branson, Missouri. Great place for fishing and hunting.”

Nevada
“Outside of Las Vegas. Warm, dry and beautiful. Desert and mountain views, what more could you ask for?”

New Mexico
“I Think Santa Fe, New Mexico, would be the place to put your next Dream Home. The temperatures are mild in the winter in most places, you can enjoy the snow and it’s not to hot in the summer so you can enjoy the outdoors.”

New York
“What about Long Island, New York. The Hamptons, Fire Island or Sag Harbor. It’s a one-hour ride to New York City and Broadway, or just hang at the beach. The best of all worlds.”

And we’ve got major news coming next week: Check back Monday!

California Dreaming

I know the Golden State is an absolutely dreamy location, but it’s not going to be the home for HGTV Dream Home 2008. According to your comments, there is certainly no shortage of places to locate: from sunny Southern California up to Sonoma and Napa Valley and San Francisco over to Lake Tahoe on the Nevada border, every area of the state had its fans.

“I think the 2008 home should be in Monterey Bay in California.”
“Redding, California, is the place for the next Dream Home.”
“I think Santa Cruz California so I can move back there because I am going to win next time.”

Stay tuned, we’re still working out all the details on HGTV Dream Home 2008. We’re pretty sure you’ll agree it’s worth the wait!

This State Has It All Except…

As several of you have pointed out, Washington state really has an abundance of natural beauty and year-round activities. But one thing it doesn’t have is HGTV Dream Home 2008.

“I choose Washington state as the next location. It has everything, and it’s the ‘Evergreen State’ after all. You’ve got mountains for hiking, skiing, camping, bicycling, the ocean and lots of lakes for boating, swimming, fishing, and much, much more!”

Stay tuned for at least one more clue this week, and we’ll reveal the location just as soon as all the pieces are in place!
