HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Six

I forgot to ask you something. Do you think Jett Rink was much of an angler? Where we are going there will be plenty of opportunities to go fly fishing. Does that narrow the scope of your search?

HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Five

You’re probably peeved that clues have not been more forthcoming. I blame Memorial Day.

I’ve been thinking alot lately about the movie Giant (I admit that something house planner Jack Thomasson said about HGTV Dream Home 2012 planted the seed in my mind). Don’t you just love how that film captures Texas’ vast expanses of land, life on the range and that amazing homestead — a dream home that could as easily accomodate a cozy gathering of family members as it could a grand crowd.

Next year’s HGTV Dream Home 2012 will not be located in Texas, but it will be situated in a state and built in a style that James Dean’s character Jett Rink would find particularly appealing.

Is everyone feeling pretty strongly that HGTV Dream Home 2012 is west of somewhere? I would have to agree with you.

I think today’s photo clue might steer you in the right direction.

HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Three

Happy Thursday!

Okay. I admit it. The Scrabble board clues were a bit of wild goose chase. But still, I am awed by your commitment to this cause.

Today I thought I’d make things a bit more straightforward. This poll may lead you in the right direction.

HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Two

Another Scrabble board clue comes your way today. I’ve read through your comments on Clue One and I am shocked that one person has hit the nail right on the head. What a smart bunch you are!

Take a look at each word. There may be one or two that lead you closer to the state and the location. Post your comments – don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.

HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue One

Are you ready? Got your thinking caps on? We are proud to launch the clue phase of our 2012 location announcement. I’ve been teasing you a bit in the past week or two, but now we are officially off and running.

To kick off our collection of clues, we present a Scrabble board covered with letter tiles. This game was in play back in October at HGTV Dream Home 2011. Take a close look at the words and see if anything immediately strikes you. Or doesn’t.

Good luck!

What Kind of Country?

With regard to the 2012 location, let’s chat for a spell about the landscape. An examination of past locations and their settings may help you guesstimate next year’s location. The 2009 home was in Sonoma – wine country, neighborhood, suburban, cozy. The 2010 manse was smack-dab in the middle of the desert – remote, arid, great sunsets, endless mountain views. That adorable mountain lodge in Stowe was New England at its finest – cozy ski town, close-knit community, quaint downtown. So what might the 2012 location look like? Beachy? Urban? Dropped in the middle of farm country? Let me know what you’re thinking today.

What Would Hawaii Look Like?

Many folks are rooting for Hawaii as the 2012 location. What would that look like: A surf shack close to the beach, a luxury estate nested on the edge of a cliff or a cozy cottage near a Kona coffee farm? I need specifics.

In other news, we’re posting clues for the Urban Oasis 2011 location. This gets me to thinking: Did anyone crack my HGTV Dream Home 2011 location clues? Take some time this week to go back through those posts and see if you can decipher the clues – how did they point to Vermont? This exercise may help you when we begin clues for the 2012 location, although some bloggers are certain they already know the very state, city and spot.

The 2012 Home

Time to get those creative juices flowing. HGTV Dream Home 2012: Where do you think it will be? Or, better yet, where do you think it should be?

My dreamy pick? Imagine a Federal-style, two-story home, if you will. This home is built from solid limestone, mined from a quarry just a stone’s throw from the property. The site is slightly sloped in the back and the emerald-green lawn leads gracefully to a babbling trout stream (don’t deny me the pleasure of saying you might pass a small vineyard of Niagra grapes on your way there). The interior is light, bright and entirely eco-friendly. In fact, let’s make it net zero, save for one old-school, energy-wasting component: a very large, open hearth on the ground floor. It’s so large, in fact, that the fire warms the entire floor and makes a cozy sitting area with two club chairs nestled in its midst. This lovely home is situated in the heart of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, very near the Delaware River and tourist attractions, but with enough buffer to make it cozy, private … a true getaway.

Oh, I almost forgot – the home comes with its own pet goat.

Your turn.
