  5. I would say the city the winner of the 2008 Green Home lived. Marsha Coulthard is from
Bradenton, Florida. That is just south of St Petersburg. It is on the Gulf Coast and plenty of waterfront areas.

Frances in Texas on October 30, 2008 at 11:17 am
  6. Apollo Beach

  7. Got me!!!! When I clicked on the link, it took me back to the main page and showed clue number two. I couldn’t find ANYTHING!!!! Still think its in the Treasure Island, FL area though. Good luck to all.

Jami on October 30, 2008 at 11:56 am
  8. It is Tradition Florida (actual city is Port St. Lucie, Fla.)
Like last years Green Home was Tradition, SC but city was Hardeeville.
Very clever clues. Right in front of our faces the whole time! lol
btw kudos to Rosesarered on the Green Home Message Board for guessing Tradition, Fla.
I guessed the Port St. Lucie part.
    Great Scavenger Hunt. Thanks!

  10. Port St. Lucie, Florida

    blondi059 on October 30, 2008 at 1:17 pm
  11. Tradition in Florida, a CORE community.

Rita on October 30, 2008 at 1:25 pm
  12. I am staying with Brandenton on the Gulf Coast, as it shares the Gulf of Mexico with La .. Port St. Lucie is on the Atlantic side and shares the Atlantic but is not in the same region as Md. or Me.
    Yep! Brandenton!!

  13. This is part of what KWalters wrote in this last clue:
“In the grand TRADITION of HGTV giveaways, the HGTV Green Home has become not just one of our favorite events, but one of the CORE events of our year.”
    Once again I say:
    Tradition is Tradition, Florida,
Core Communities and is actually located in Port St. Lucie, Florida..just like last years GH was Tradition, SC, Core Communities, actually in Hardeeville, SC.

  14. I couldn’t decide between Tampa and Sarasota and all the while, it was between the two; Bradenton!

  15. I’m with “Team Bradenton”

    Sonja C on October 30, 2008 at 7:27 pm
  16. Its in Sonoma CA. If you take the link it gives you you will be directed to the green home web page, then click on “my HGTV green home” on the tab. Then on the right, under the heading “HGTV green home video” scroll through the videos until you see the heading “Where is HGTV dream home 2009?”. And there you have it…Sonoma, California.

    I should be a detective… :)

hcp on October 30, 2008 at 9:22 pm
  17. Sonoma, CA, its in the video!

Hannah on October 30, 2008 at 9:32 pm
  18. I also think it’s going to be in bradenton, Fl
Now that the final clue has been revealed. I can’t wait to see if it’s true.

  19. Dear Carter: This has to be the location of the previous Green Home winner, Marsha Coulthard, which is Bradenton, Florida…..How close could I get since my previous guess was Sarasota…Bradenton is the largest Principal City of the Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is 116.69 miles from Orlando, Florida, according to Yahoo Maps. It would take 1 hour 55 minutes from Orlando to Bradenton (with me driving, 2 hours), which goes along with the clue of being 2 hours from Orlando!!

Also, located just south of the Tampa Bay area in Manatee County, Bradenton is a fabulous place to explore art and historical attractions, have fun in the sun while enjoying the beach and all types of water and boat adventures, plus it is a golfer’s paradise! Bradenton itself is a lovely community with restaurants, shops and superb golden sands…what a wonderful way to relax and wash away all the stresses of everyday life, especially if you win the HGTV Green Home. Anna Maria Island is close to Bradenton, the city across the Intercostals Waterway that starts off where Sarasota ends. Across the bridge from Bradenton Beach, time-frozen Cortez safeguards it fishing village way of life with a developing maritime museum and waterfront seafood houses. Fishing and eco-tourism excursions depart from the docks along with commercial boats.

So, what better place to build a Green Home since Bradenton Responsible ecotourism includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for the local communities. YES!! Please build your Green Home in Bradenton, Florida…I would love to LIVE there. Marie Miller

  20. Sonoma, Ca

Monique Lisowski on October 31, 2008 at 2:26 pm
  21. That video was the 2009 “Dream” home, not the 2009 Green home, the locaion still to be announced …
    Bradenton Florida !!

Linda Milward on October 31, 2008 at 2:29 pm
  22. Hmmmm, maybe the winner should be the first one who posted the exact location first!! Wouldn’t that be a hoot !! It would mean one of the above posters would win!!

Linda Milward on October 31, 2008 at 2:32 pm
  23. Now the question is, where in Bradenton?

Manatee River? (maybe at The Inlet)
The Lake Club, The River District,Palma Sola,Tidy Island, Anna Maria Island, etc.?

deepcheers on October 31, 2008 at 6:34 pm
  24. I TIVO House Hunters International as I am addicted. I haven’t seen any posts from anyone watching the show. The new home is in Sonoma, CA. Yes, it is referred to as the “dream home” in the video, but since the clue specifically states that it was during this time slot, I will go for it and submit, Sonoma, CA.

Brenda on October 31, 2008 at 6:42 pm
  25. Bradenton, it is. It’s close to all the amenities of Tampa, Sarasota, and much more along the Gulf Coast. I would LOVE to win.
    Good luck everyone!

  28. a little upset I just found this scavenger hunt today – I enjoyed the dream home quiz one also, even with that foolish scrabble board – alot of the clues were time sensitive, however , the fact that two dream homes were built near the FL panhandle thinks me to believe that the 2009 green home will be on the left coast,fl, more than likely north, away from tampa/st pete and the city areas – my guess? – homosassa springs area – do not have time to look for emerging real estate developments – however remain certain that it will be a sensational waterfront home – hope to get to FL to see it when the big bang starts……..

    steve e on November 1, 2008 at 9:25 am
  29. Oh my goodness!! Carter…I have to change my guess once again….looking at your clue one more time…”In the grand TRADITION of HGTV giveaways, the HGTV Green Home has become not just one of our favorite events, but one of the CORE events of our year!

There it is…the clue: CORE!! “Core Communities” is a leading developer of master-planned communities and mixed-use developments that are environmentally sensitive, economically viable, community-oriented and sustainable. What better place to build the next Green Home…”That’s smart growth!!” They have a strong sense of community, which is a distinctive characteristic of every neighborhood bearing the Core Communities name!!

So, I am now agreeing with velvet350, blondi059, and Rita, that it is TRADITION, Florida, and that the actual city is Port St. Lucie, Florida!!! Oh yeah, the distance between Orlando, Florida, & Port St. Lucie, Florida, is 125 miles, which is a driving distance of about 1 hour 56 minutes!!

You’re right, the answer was right before our eyes…very, very clever!! Marie Miller

Marie Miller on November 1, 2008 at 9:34 am
  30. um….im not sure where 2009′s green house is but i think 2010 it should be in wheeling w.v.

aynonomous on November 1, 2008 at 1:49 pm
  31. There are two clues that specifically state the 2009 home is in Sonoma, California. But those don’t match any of the other clues that all point to Florida.

  32. I’m guessing Sonoma, Ca. I live in California and this is a really beautiful area!!

jackie firmin on November 1, 2008 at 4:14 pm
  34. Okay, Marie, I think you’ve got the right idea, just the wrong coast. I believe it will be in the gated community of Sonoma at Doral which is on the gulf and a suburb of Miami

  37. i think your green houses a too wonderfull but i am giving up on winning becaus it seems all the world revolves around the east coast lets see some green living in lasvegas or kingman az. nothing outragous. just some ways to save money on the outragour ult. bills out here. and no wierd housing like in new mexico that takes to much work just to live there. i really wish u would shock everyone and build oout in the desert love huggs and kisses haha best wishes on your new plans ill be watching

torrey on November 1, 2008 at 8:09 pm
  38. Hmmm, by the time this is posted we will know the location of the Green Home. Bradenton or Tradition, Port St. Lucie? I’m hoping for Bradenton, so close to Sarasota and my favorite Keys, Lido, Long Beach, Siesta. Sarasota has so much to offer in culture: theater, jazz, concerts, too many to mention here. But it’s gotta be Tradition, the same kind of community they built in before. A few days ago I was going to take a wild guess, and I will now, anyway. Pass-a-Grille, just below St. Pete, past the Don CeSar (the pink palace). Where ever it is going to be built, the Green Home will be wonderful, and filled with all the eco-friendly advantages the Green Team can come up with. Thank you HGTV. You’re still the best show on TV.

Katydid on November 1, 2008 at 8:12 pm
  39. The 2009 green house will be located in Hilton Head Island, SC. A perfect beautiful green location for a beautiful green home.

P.S would love some color ideas for my kitchen; I have dark brown cabinets, black granite, and stainless steel appliances. would you favor green’s, blue’s, perhaps a serene setting? In reality nothing is for free not even HGTV.

  46. It has been fun. I enjoyed this scavenger hunt.
The Perloined Letter technique is still a very effective means of hiding something. I didn’t know 5that there was a prize for guessing correctly; I just thought it was a fun exercise in generating and keeping interest in the 2009 Green Home. We’ll find out if our guesses are correct come Monday.

  47. Winning this Green Home would be the most exciting thin that ever happened to my wife and me. We could finally have a home to be proud of and really enjoy.

  48. I have concluded that Bradenton Florida is a very good choice for the 2009 HGTV Green Home location.

Garth A. Budd on November 2, 2008 at 9:37 am
  49. Somewhere in Florida heres why

    1.Orlando is in florida

2.it must be somewhat close to Orlando if its 2 hours away

Why I think its not in the town where the winner lived

1.It was all ready developed for a green home they would have to knock down a few houses

2.Houses would be to small to fit in with the green home.

Why I think it may not even be in Florida

    1. THIS YEARS DREAM HOME WAS IN FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!

Jenna on November 2, 2008 at 10:20 am
  50. Must be Anna Maria Island, Bradenton FL the most beautiful spot with bay on one side and gulf on the other.
