Hey HGTV Green Home fans, the big day is finally here! Without further ado, here’s Jack Thomasson to announce the location of HGTV Green Home 2009! (Is it just me, or is he looking particularly handsome on horseback?)

And if you love following the construction of HGTV’s Green Homes as much as I do, check out HGTVPro.com’s Building the 2009 HGTV Green Home. In addition to today’s location announcement, you’ll be able to see videos and slide shows of the home being built from the ground up. Plus, get field reports from blogger Marilyn Bauer, who’s got all the behind-the-scenes scoop from the construction site.

  1. You have no idea how happy it’s makes me to see our country become aware of what I have fought for for over 30 years, and that is the eco- we need to re invent our way of thinking, and stop being a throw away society. It does a heart good to see people like your selves, take the “bull by the horns” and build it to be more in tune with “Mother Nature. Keep up the great work. Even though we old folks will ever aquire such luxuries, there is hope that the younger generation will learn from our constant reminders of “GO GREEN”.

  4. This would be a great location for us. We’re retired and this would be a dream come true if we win it. The house is going to be so beautiful. It doesn’t hurt to DREAM. The best of luck to whom ever wins it. We wish you many blessings.

  5. Thank you for choosing another home in southern Florida. It’s an awesome location! I wanted to win the last one so badly. Now I have another chance.

  6. Do dreams come true? Who wouldn’t be a believer if they are the winner of this magical home?

  7. I think a Green Home in Florida is a great idea! I live in Florida and I don’t think people are very mindful of their wasteful ways. If there were more positive examples of this effort in our area then I would hope people would begin making better choices themselves. We can’t let the big companies in these “communities” ruin our world by cutting costs using shotty designs and materials. My husband and I still live with my folks because we simply cannot afford to buy a house ourselves. We’ve looked around and the ones being built in our area are just not quality designs. It seems like they just want to fit as many homes in one area as possible. They all look the same. My father is a builder and he cannot get work because there is nowhere to build if you are using your own designs. It has to be the cookie cutter image! Needless to say, he only works in remodeling now. He hasn’t built a home in quite some time.

  9. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the MOMENTS that TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY… to have the keys to this new green home giveaway would be an answed prayer.

  11. Perfect spot!
I can see myself here relaxing after a day of shopping. LOL!
I would love to take the Busch tribe to Florida.

  12. You always choose great locations. They all have meaning to me from sometime in my life and I could see myself living in most of those places. This one would allow us to neighbor of my husband’s brother and sister-in-law. I lived in FL for a year when I was a pre-teen and relive the feeling whenever I return. You and Linda create a beautifully designed and decorated house. A Green home will inevitably reduce these winter closed house health issues. It would be so wonderful to own a clean, green home and have my many family members visit all year long where the surfers, golfers, beach lovers. boaters and very warm blooded relatives will feel good every day of their stay!

  13. When I heard of the website,I had to write . I live with my husband and our granddaughter. We are both retired and are feeling the pressure of the times, I would certainly welcome the thought of paying taxes and not the morgage on a home.Thank You for this change.

  14. I love this location, it could not be better for a greendreamhome, paradise that mimic the place i group in. Thus I hope to be moving in soon but good luck to everybody…

  15. This is truely a “when you wish upon a star your dreams could maybe, possibly come true”. Anyone would be so lucky to win. Would hope there is some fishing fairly nearby as that is a very favorite for both my husband and I. I don’t usually (never) have blogged into anything, so this will be interesting to see who is so fortunate. Thanks for the opportunity.

  16. I WANT IT!!!!!

gretta on February 10, 2009 at 10:47 pm
  17. To win this would truly be an answer to prayer. I’ve wanted to move my family from Missouri to be closer to my sister who had to relocate in Florida several years ago. We just came from visiting her and her family, after not seeing them for 3 years, and I promised her that somehow, someway, I would find a way for us to move to Florida to be closer to her. This house would be the PERFECT HOME and the PERFECT ANSWER to alot of prayers.

Mary on February 10, 2009 at 10:49 pm
  18. Not a fan of Port St.Lucie coming from Palm City Fl.Schools are not the best but private is always an option for the winner of this fabulous home.

Audrey Mosley on February 11, 2009 at 1:20 pm
  20. I think HGTV’s whole attitude toward family and home improvement has been inspiring to so many families. The sself help attitude encourages people to help themselves. By going Green, you continue to motivate all of us to preserve environment and the future of the world. Keep up the great work!

  21. My parents retired from New York in the late 1970′s to Jensen Beach, right next door to Port St. Lucie, Stuart, Hutchinson Island, etc., otherwise I’d never have heard of this part of Florida. They’re gone now and due to some problems we haven’t been able to travel there for a while, but I can tell you it’s a wonderful area for the green home with beautiful beaches within walking distance and good people in the surrounding communities. My parents are now both buried in Jensen Beach..so it’s long past time to visit. My heart leaped when I heard the location chosen was Port St. Lucie and jumped again when I saw the floor plan of the Green Home. It’s perfect. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to live in this wonderful house?
Please folks..those of you who are complaining. If you don’t want to win or live in such an incredible prize, don’t write negative things about it. There are certainly enough of us who think it’s fabulous and are more than enjoying the dream of ‘Southern Nights’ (singing):)

Elizabeth on February 12, 2009 at 1:49 pm
  22. Been a single mother for 24 yrs and going thru lots of ups and down along, it will be a gift from GOD to be able to win this BEAUTIFUL GREEN HOME!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

  23. This would also be a dream come true! To own your own home, and not have to worry about the mortgage! I would be debt free! I could be with my parents and we would be worry free raising my two small children! I love all your houses! You bring a lot of families a dream come true. I know some friends of mine that could benefit from this also. I hope they enter from my replies! It would be great to see them win also!

  24. The suroundings look promising! I lived in Florida for most of my life and wish to go back some day. I’m currently living in the Big Sky state of Montana. And it can get very cold up here! hahah Good luck on the construction! I can’t wait to start entering the sweepstakes!

Daniella on February 12, 2009 at 7:40 pm
  25. Wow! Amazing! I’m a native Floridian but relocated to North Carolina. We like it, but the cold weather is something to get use to. I would love to move back to Florida and the warmer climate. You don’t realize how much you miss it until it’s gone. Florida will always be home to us and living in the HGTV green home would be a dream come true!

Cathy on February 12, 2009 at 10:58 pm
  26. Wow ! This is what dreams are made of. We all can dream, but only one of us can win. Blessings to everyone and especially the winner. Can’t wait to enter.

  27. My husband was transferred to Florida 14 months ago while I and our seven children are still in Colorado due to not being able to sell our home here. I would love to win this home so we can be together again soon.

JoAnn on February 13, 2009 at 11:07 am
  28. I am a Florida native but we chose to move to the Southwest because we got sick of the insurance rates and cleaning up after the hurricanes. Before anyone registers for this house, they may want to make sure they can afford the insurance.

Debra on February 13, 2009 at 10:43 pm
  29. IT BE A DREAM TO WIN THIS HOUSE, I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO AFFORD A HOUSE LIKE THIS,, IMAGINE ONE DAY LEAVING A HOUSE TO MY 5 CHILDREN

Mercy Cepeda on February 14, 2009 at 9:10 am
  30. I was starting to wonder if you even knew that anything outside of Florida existed. thTn you picked one of the most expensive areas in California to put this year’s Dream Home. Of course, you had to go back to Florida after that. Get real folks! for most of us, if we did win any of hose houses, we couldn’t afford the taxes. There are a thousand places in California where you could have put the “Dream Home”, where you could have built the samehouse for half the price. I’m betting the same holds true for the ones in Florida too. Really disappointing.

    DONNA R on February 16, 2009 at 9:40 am
  35. GEEZ Bruce, I hope you don’t win. If I won I would be greatful. And if you won you would complain? How about if you don’t think you can afford the taxes to sell it for a cheaper price so that it would sale. I can’t believe someone would post a comment like that. If I win I would be moving in a heartbeat. Without having a mortagage I am sure that I could pay the taxes and insurance
I would absolutly be so greatful if I won.

  36. Grew up in North Carolina near the ocean. Wrightsville Beach was where I spent many summer days as a child and teenager. I miss the Atlantic Ocean very much!! I would love to win this Green Home for many reasons. (1) The midwest where I have lived for over 35 years is just way too cold! (2) Who in the world wouldn’t love to win this house?!! (3) I told my fiance I would marry him sooner if he moved me back south! :) Good luck to everyone, but I sure do hope my fiance and I win because it would be better than a honeymoon, it would BE the honeymoon!!! :)

  37. MY SON AND HIS WIFE HAVE JUST TAKEN IN THIER TWO GRANDCHILDREN, 3 MONTH OLD AND 2 YEAR OLD TO LIVE WITH THEM., BUT THE HOUSE THEY OWN NOW IS WAY TO SMALL FOR THEM. IF BY CHANCE I WIN I WOULD GLADLY GIVE MY DREAM HOME TO THEM. THEY DESERVE IT.

  42. I wouldn’t say it is a green home when the town of Tradition FL. had to fill hundreds of acres of wetlands to be built. I would never say that the loss of Florida wetlands is eco friendly. Bad choice! you should have done your homework!!!

Eric on February 17, 2009 at 11:19 pm
  43. Why not build one here in Tucson, AZ next year? There is plenty opportunity for solar panels, water harvesting, etc. What a great place to go green. I would like to see a straw bale house built.

  46. Always good to have a dream to give us hope
Especially when times are hard for so many.

There is so much beauty in the world around us; and sometimes when we feel so bogged
down with life’s troubles, it is good to
fantasize a warm place with blue skies and
the sound and smell of water all around. Thank you for the reprieve and the dream. Good luck to all!

  47. I’ve lived too long without a home of my own and this is it–finally a chance to own the right home, in the right location, for all the right reasons, and if I should be so fortunate, you will have chosen the right person and the right family at the right time.! My guarantee!!!!!

  48. I am so excited about this house! We love Florida and visit a couple of times a year. The plans look great and the area is fantastic. Great job HGTV! I can’t wait to enter! Good luck everyone….

  49. We are praying that God will let us win this house. My husband is a retired Minister. He is 90 plus years of age and has been preaching for 72 years. I am 74 and I have had Cancer three times, open heart surgery and many other things. We need a place to live with my daughter and her husband. He is in the Army and has just returned from Irac. Then have two little girls and a little adopted son. They are so precious to want to take care of us. But as you can see we need a larger place for all of us. God Bless you for helping others.
    Thanks.

  50. Thanks for picking Florida. Our state struggles to find its “greeness”. This will promote and help light the way.
