Artist’s Rendering of the 2009 HGTV Green Home

HGTVPro.com just posted an artist’s rendering of the HGTV Green Home:

GH09%20Final%20Rendering600x395.jpg

When I saw it, I thought, “Jack’s done it again.” He grounded the house in its setting by choosing the Spanish-influenced style, then blended that style with a casual liveability that instantly says “home.”

If you get a chance, go cruise around HGTVPro.com. Check out their special feature, Building the 2009 HGTV Green Home.

My favorite piece? The Field Reports — a blog that keeps you updated on all the happenings at the construction site.

Also be sure to visit visit their Green Building page for info that can help you improve your winter utility bills and breathe easier with better air quality.

Be sure to stay tuned…floor plans of the 2009 HGTV Green Home are coming soon.

Editor’s Note: If you’ve been watching the blog the last couple of days, you’ll notice that the rendering picture has changed. We just got an updated image from Jack, which I wanted to share with you, hot off the press.

  1. This house looks amazing. I think having a green home is the best thing HGTV has ever done. Having a daughter whom has had many surgery uses alot of hot water to keep things clean the hot water tanks are wonderful. Thank you for thinking of the Earth. Hope I will get lucky this year. Thanks Again Cathy

  6. What can I say!!!!!Awesome comes to mind and to think that it’s going to be a Green Home so it’s going to be full of savings and brand new innovations, The tower I’m sure it’s going to be an awesome space but also going to be a green space. I just can’t wait to hear more about the house, And as soon as they start offering tours or we can go see the house, I’ll be hoping in my car and going to see for myself this Awesome Green Home!! And I will share everything with my fellow bloggers.

  12. The house looks beautiful, but again, I am disappointed to see all the steps. I know that I am not the only one who is either disabled or has a disabled family member and I feel like we are being ignored when creating either a Green home or Dream home. It is not that difficult to make a home beautiful and accessible. Please keep everyone in mind when designing a home. If we did win we would be forced to sell the home just because we couldn’t get into it or get around once inside. I love your ideas but please listen to all of us!

Linda on November 12, 2008 at 1:09 pm
  13. Wow its going to be beautiful, as well it looks as though there is a lot of main floor living area Wow its going to be beautiful, as well it looks as though there is a lot of main floor living area <good for those of us who don’t do too well with stairs .. I hope there’s a lift to take you to the top which looks to me to be the ultimate in sun rooms, or, master bedroom and you are sleeping under the stars :)

  15. I dream of a home like this…it’s just too bad my luck doesn’t agree with my dreams (haha).

I think that HGTV has done an amazing job designing this green home. If your interested in the green movement as much as I am (and your luck is as bad as mine) you might want to check out a website that I found to be very useful. The site helps consumers design a <a href=” green”>http://www.freegreen.com/”>green home plan and brings green products, materials and vendors all to one website. Very useful.

Again, HGTV great house and I look forward to moving in (if I win of course).

  17. Okay, am I going crazy or what? The first time I looked at this amazing home, there was a little red car parked on the side in the back? Isn’t that true? What happened to it? HELP!! Marie Miller

  19. Marie*
You are not nuttin’ up, cause I saw that same artists rendering with the little red car.
Then with the blink of an eye it was gone and a new picture appeared. Do you think they do that to drive us crazy? lol
    Linda*
    You are not alone!
I wish for once they would build a healthy, eco friendly home where everyone has access inside and out. I have seen designs that are blended, where you do not notice the difference. A family can age in place. What a wonderful concept!

  20. So, when can we expect the floor plans? :-)

MicheleC on November 19, 2008 at 4:57 pm
  21. Just looked at the pictures posted of the Green Home. The view from the front of the house is spectacular! Now I see other steps leading down without a path other than green turf. What is that green stuff made of? This is a sad comment, but I have to make it. The children look adorable, but many of the adults look overweight. Should they be eating more “greens” in this green home enclave, or was it just an unfortunate choice by the photographer? Anyway, looking at the pics of the foundation the house still looks huge to me. Much larger than I imagined a Green Home. Can’t wait for floorplans. Thanks HGTV.

Katydid on November 19, 2008 at 6:03 pm
  22. Please hurry up with the floor plans, can’t wait to see them.Like the red roof a lot and the white stucco, not sure about the other colors.

  23. OK, as a current resident of Tradition FL, my husband and I ride our bikes by the construction site of the 2009 Green Home on a regular basis; watching its progress. We are pleased that HGTV chose our town for this spectactular eco-friendly home. And, we are hoping we win this wonderful home because we know first-hand how wonderful it is to live in Tradition.

  25. I love it!! How great!! My daughter & grandchildren live in Stuart. If I win I’d be a half hour away from them. Much better than 1600 miles. I love Tradition, I’ve shopped there many times. I’ve packed my bags and am ready to move.

  26. What a fabulous concept. I love the unique design and layout, not to mention the eco efficiency. My son and his family live in Stuart, FL. So I am very familiar with the area and Tradition. A really great location with all the best central and south florida have to offer. I’ll be entering and keeping my fingers crossed as I would love to be close to them.

  27. Wow – an HGTV Green Home right in my own backyard! I live just north of this area and we shop in Tradition all the time. It’s amazing to see how fast the area is growing. Great pick for location. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Thanks for picking our beautiful Treasure Coast as the 2009 location. :)

I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. I hope you find as much joy in creating this as we do in dreaming of it becoming ours.

  32. I live in this area and have kept abreast on building this home…just wondered WHY you did not build a 3-car garage instead of a 2-car. Everyone knows homes in Florida do NOT have enough storage (no attics or basements and very small closets). A major ooops.

  33. This house is absolutley beautiful. Three years ago we went on a family vacation to Florida. This was out first time ever to visit the beautiful state. We loved our visit and have wanted to go back ever since, but unfortinatley with the way the economy has been havent been able to go back…so this would be a great VACATION HOME!!!

I have been entering the hgtv dream homes for the last few years in hopes of winning.I loved the Green Home in Hilton Head, So. Carolina. The products used to build the home were all very well thought out. I hope to have luck this time around. Anne from Connecticut

The place is a shell, four walls, no staircase to go to the top floor, no plumbing pipes, no electrical wires. Please, please, someone tell me what to do please!!!!!

I would love to live here with a few of my friends; we are all considered “disabled” and this home would be “the one” for us. Thank you for creating more than just a ‘house’ to live in.

BTW several of you talked about the rendition having little kids in it. The picture I have doesn’t have kids. Am I going nuts?

  63. I don’t understand why the ECOWALL when their are many more much more refined systems on the market that do the job even better? When are you going to look into ICF construction? Better R values, cheaper shipping, better durability, and longer on the market for more testing. I do want to thank you for trying to go this route and now maybe you can take the next step.

  64. This house is wonderful – I live the unique design. Different is good. It would be perfect for me and my granddaughter, Mercedes (age 5). Mercedes suffers with Lung problems and we moved out of NYC (on her doctors recommendations) to Upstate NY due to her health problems. Moving to Florida would be even better. I’m starting a Nursing program and I know I would have great opportunity to care for Mercedes and others. But to live in such a great home would be just perfect and healthier for Mercedes to live and grow. I have a lot of family that live through out Florida and the move would be easy. I can’t wait to enter the contest to win this home for us.

  68. Wow! My two favorite home styles are Spanish and Farmhouse. Who knew HGTV would choose these two for their 2009 Dream Home and Green Home sweepstakes? How exciting to even have an opportunity to enter to win any home at all, but especially one built by the HGTV team. I have followed the building of these home for several years and entered a couple of times. Having grown up in coastal North Carolina (have lived in the midwest for 36 years) I miss the warm ocean breezes and small town living. Two buildings that caught my eye immediately in the video about Tradition, FL were the Townhall and the little white church. Both give the feeling of warmth and close ties to family and community. That alone would entice anyone to be drawn to this picturesque setting. I am excited to have the chance to enter this contest. Would love to win this home. I can envision my fiance having the chance to get involved once again with little league baseball. (He played baseball from age eight to seventeen and coached for over 25 years until our jobs kept us on the road) Small town living where everyone knows your name, getting involved in community, lingering after church to brag about your gifted grandchildren; it just doesn’t get any better than that. Look forward to entering the contest. Win or not, it’s a chance of a lifetime. Thank you for all the opportunities you offer people for a chance at seeing their dreams come true.

Although most of our families have moved to Florida: (Orlanda, Delray Beach and West Palm Beach), we continue to turn a deaf ear to their urgings to fly south as we remain in New Jersey. Should we win, this house changes everything. We will definetly sell our house and enjoy all that Florida and family has to offer.

Your drive to preserve and educate on that which is both irreplaceable and precious will be felt for generations. 83. Great computer rendering. How about a virtual tour as the architect has the house laid out? It would be fun to see it without the furniture and stuff. I always think that is the part I like doing. taking the floor plan and putting furniture in it that I would think fits the style and location.

  85. I’ve read the Thomas Friedman book “Hot, Flat and Crowded” that is posted on this page. What a pleasure it is to know that HGTV is promoting this important testimony to going green and then doing something about it with the 2009 Green Home. Florida lags far behind in everything “green” and it is wonderful that you are building this home here. The design seems the perfect blend of “island”, “farmhouse”, and “Old Florida”. The architect did a great job on the interior and exteriors. Needless to say, I’m anxious to continue to read about the green features in a lot of detail. I hope the home is able to obtain the highest green ratings. I’ve been talking with an architect in the SEattle area who is working to build homes that includes all interiors green including furniture and accessories. I’m looking forward to the interior elements as well as the exterior. Hoping to see the landscape design taking into play the real issue of lawns here in Florida–horrible wasting of difficult water resources. I’m certain your teams will take that into consideration!

  87. major rooms should have huge windows for view, light, traffic, and cross ventilation. Guest room should not share a bath with a child. The laundry should be switched with the bathroom near the kitchen, and that indented space should be storage. The sitting room should be a guest and/or office. This home has lots of sitting space. The front door needs a large covered porch for neighborhood visiting and for cooling shade. What is the function of the tower to qualify it for “green”
Looking for your reply, V. K. Peters

  88. I am happy to see such a beautiful home that is not only going to be green, but looks to also be handicap accessible. For people like me who are trying to go as green as possible and are also in need of assistive devices to get around, this floor plan appears wonderful. Way to go Jack and all of your associates!

  91. It’s great to see HGTV building another Green Home, but I would really like to see how a green home can withstand the changes in climate that occur in the Northern states. So here’s the challenge: build an energy efficient Green home in a Northern midwest state. Can you do it?

Darlene Erxleben on January 8, 2009 at 11:07 am
  92. I’m sorry but I cannot see the whole thing. The archives list is right over the top of the picture on the left side. I do see the back of the house and it looks interesting. The master suite must be behind the archives list.

  93. HGTV’s dream homes are awesome. I’m glad you’re building a green home. Please remember to think about the elderly/disabled and when building up include ramps and elevators. The width of bathroom doors and shower doors is really important for wheel- chair bound folks, too. Keep up the great work.

  94. The house is beautiful, I love it

Wilfredo on January 9, 2009 at 2:46 pm
  95. It looks great i hope you make it disable / elderly friendly. Nothing hurts more then have someone you love end up in a wheelchair and on top of that they cannot do any family functions because nobody has a home they can get into. It would be nice if you would desing the home to grow old and disable if that happens.

  96. I love the layout and the design of the house. On top of that, my wife is a Florida girl. I would love to bring her back and into this house. I can’t wait until the sweepstakes for this house starts. Forget the Dream Home 2009,I want the Green Home 2009. With 1 kid here and 1 on the way, this house would be wonderful for them to grow up in. My wife and I have been struggling to find a place of our own and this would make a wonderful house to live in. I so can’t wait until it is finished and ready to win. :-D

  99. wow,
i am in tears, when i was a little girl i always wanted to live in a solar home, i just loved the idea of it, but what brings me to tears is the fact that my father help to build several homes in my home town , my favorite was a spanish revival style home, which is very unique up hear in the northeast, he used to promise to bulid me a solar home just like that one, well, you promise you children the moon and he would have if he could. even though he is gone , this lovely home took me back on my fahter’s lap. anyway, it is stunning home, i love the modern edge to it as well, whoever gets this wonderful home i feel a kinship with..wow!

  100. I’m looking forward to the building up of this terrific home! I do so hope to win it….we live in central FL now in an old & much too tiny home . Too small to even have overnight guests….makes me so sad as we have 3 sons & 7 grandchildren. It would be a great blessing to our family if we were to win this lovely house. Keep up the good work!

Gail Stevens on January 14, 2009 at 3:28 pm
  101. I live in New Orleans and now live in Houston. I can only imagine how beautiful this home would be till I have the joy of winning such a fantastic Spanish style home!
I have 3 children that 2 would adore visiting me in this wonderful place.

  102. I agree that Port St. Lucie is a nice place–but why would you choose a location so close to a nuclear power plant to build a green home?

Sandy on January 18, 2009 at 2:28 pm
  103. I have been vertually “touring” the green and dream homes for years. They are are all beautiful and well equipt. My problem is I don’t think any of them are practical for a “real” family. Maybe that’s because I am compairing it to MY real family. I have a “Large” family. This is NOT to imply that if you have no children, or only one child you are not a real family. However, I don’t think any of the homes have been equipt for more than 2 children. We are a military family with four children and my mother lives with us as a dependant. I enter the sweepsteaks thinking about what I would have to do to the houses to actually live in them. The green homes come closer than the dream homes due to the issue of having a family with disabilities including two asthmatic children my phisical disablities and my disabled mother living with us. We are on chemichal free, glueten free diets. This works well for the green life as it is mostly whole foods. Someone needs to build my dream home. Make it green, one leval so we don’t have to deal with stairs, make it allergen safe for my kids, make it big enough for four kids and a mother in law to have their own rooms and create privacy for soldier and his wife when they are actually on the same soil. and while your at it make the living space big enough to seat a family of 7 and guests practically and comfortably. And the kitchen equipt to entertain the many people that come in and out of our home. My vote for location would be near a military base. But honestly, I am sure I am not the only person with four children looking at these dream and green homes and wondering “Who really can live in it?” For the amount of money you spend on these homes shouldn’t a “large” family be able to live in it? Thanks You for your time.

  104. Beautiful house, lovely neighborhood, It’s a lovers paradise. With god’s blessing, and prayers, I am hoping to be the lucky one, so I could help a family member and their children who lost their home, and lost his job. Thanks.

  107. The layout looks great. I really like the Idea of having an enterance from the porch to the hall bathroom. I think it would be romantic to have a double or sliding glass door from the master suite to slip out onto the porch for a moonlit glass of wine with your lover.

  109. I live in Massachusetts and vacation in Florida when the winter weather gets the best of me and my husband. Love, love, love this green home. We have been avid recyclers and have been talking about putting solar panels on our roof as well as a metal roof (two roofs replaced in 20 years). This green home would be my dream home. As a breast cancer survivor I look at ways to have everything around us as well as the food we eat be as healthy as possible. Winning this green home would be a dream come true – living in a green home and being in the place we love. How do I enter to win?

  113. Really proud of HGTV for giving us a green house and the Spanish-style with the tower atop is going to look fabulous. I’m looking forward to a guided tour of this beautiful home. Green is so important as we need to save, recycle, and take care of our planet. I would be proud to live in a green home to share and enjoy with my family. The location is a key factor, close to so many conveniences and so many great places to visit and explore. Thanks, waiting for more updates!

  114. The house looks fabulous. Green architecture would be special for my wife’s allergies. To have this home located less than an hour from our daughter would be more than words can express.

Ron Moore on January 27, 2009 at 7:56 pm
  115. What a beauty and I love the location. May I offer a couple of comments though. How do you access the kitchen from the car? When you are carrying grocery bags you may not want to have to go down the bedroom hallway or through the porch to get there. The kitchen of most often poorly placed for easy access for women in modern floorplans. This a huge complaint and usually an easy fix if addressed before construction.

And why do you have to go through the master closet to get to the bathroom. Might be an issue for older people.

Other than these thoughts this is one house I would LOVE to own.
