Artist’s Rendering of the 2009 HGTV Green Home

HGTVPro.com just posted an artist’s rendering of the HGTV Green Home:

GH09%20Final%20Rendering600x395.jpg

When I saw it, I thought, “Jack’s done it again.” He grounded the house in its setting by choosing the Spanish-influenced style, then blended that style with a casual liveability that instantly says “home.”

If you get a chance, go cruise around HGTVPro.com. Check out their special feature, Building the 2009 HGTV Green Home.

My favorite piece? The Field Reports — a blog that keeps you updated on all the happenings at the construction site.

Also be sure to visit visit their Green Building page for info that can help you improve your winter utility bills and breathe easier with better air quality.

Be sure to stay tuned…floor plans of the 2009 HGTV Green Home are coming soon.

Editor’s Note: If you’ve been watching the blog the last couple of days, you’ll notice that the rendering picture has changed. We just got an updated image from Jack, which I wanted to share with you, hot off the press.

  1. Any consideration to making any of your Dream Homes wheelchair accessible? There are lots of ways to innovatively make them accessible and not look like disabled homes.

  2. Wow! Now I know why I didn’t win the other great homes! This one is my favorite spot! What a fabulous venture this would be for my family who all live up North. Hope this is mine when all is said and done! Great Job! You never cease to surprise us! Mae

  4. What a marvelous rendering; I look forward to more. Green Homes are, hopefully, the best wave of our futures. I would love to live here with a few of my friends; we are all considered “disabled” and this home would be “the one” for us. Thank you for creating more than just a ‘house’ to live in.

  5. I noticed that in one of the video clips they show the artist rendition of the back of the house but I can’t find picture anywhere. Have any of you seen such a picture? If so where? Thanks.
BTW several of you talked about the rendition having little kids in it. The picture I have doesn’t have kids. Am I going nuts?

  6. This is such a lovely home I sure hope to win it for my kids and grandbaby. Nice work dream home team you guys did a wonderful job

  7. Wow, a nice looking model and interesting floor plan. Can’t wait to see the videos of the building process and eventually the finished product. I’ve been waiting for years to see when a show for green building and that wish came true so maybe my next wish will come true too. Great job everyone involved in HGTV Dream Home and HGTV Green Home. So impressive. I have another great idea, but I have to hear from HGTV to let it out of the bag. Hey, can you give us some dates for upcoming videos and pics or a calender of your projected schedule. Good luck to everyone…later…

  8. I like the location and design of this house better than the Dream Home.
I’ll invite all the HGTV design crew to my open house when I win the Green Home…LOL!
My friends will definately turn green with envy.

  10. the house is so beautiful on the outside, it has to be even more beautiful in side because as have seen in some of the shows going green can be so amazing if you have some style and the people on the show have amazing taste. I only dream about living like that one day.

  12. This is the best floor plan that I have ever seen? I am excited about the location as well. I love Florida and that is where I want to retire. This is a really nice house and the location seems to be good by what everyone has said so far. I am really excited to win this one. Thanks HGTV for bringing dreams to fruition.

  13. I don’t understand why the ECOWALL when their are many more much more refined systems on the market that do the job even better? When are you going to look into ICF construction? Better R values, cheaper shipping, better durability, and longer on the market for more testing. I do want to thank you for trying to go this route and now maybe you can take the next step.

  14. This house is wonderful – I live the unique design. Different is good. It would be perfect for me and my granddaughter, Mercedes (age 5). Mercedes suffers with Lung problems and we moved out of NYC (on her doctors recommendations) to Upstate NY due to her health problems. Moving to Florida would be even better. I’m starting a Nursing program and I know I would have great opportunity to care for Mercedes and others. But to live in such a great home would be just perfect and healthier for Mercedes to live and grow. I have a lot of family that live through out Florida and the move would be easy. I can’t wait to enter the contest to win this home for us.

  18. Wow! My two favorite home styles are Spanish and Farmhouse. Who knew HGTV would choose these two for their 2009 Dream Home and Green Home sweepstakes? How exciting to even have an opportunity to enter to win any home at all, but especially one built by the HGTV team. I have followed the building of these home for several years and entered a couple of times. Having grown up in coastal North Carolina (have lived in the midwest for 36 years) I miss the warm ocean breezes and small town living. Two buildings that caught my eye immediately in the video about Tradition, FL were the Townhall and the little white church. Both give the feeling of warmth and close ties to family and community. That alone would entice anyone to be drawn to this picturesque setting. I am excited to have the chance to enter this contest. Would love to win this home. I can envision my fiance having the chance to get involved once again with little league baseball. (He played baseball from age eight to seventeen and coached for over 25 years until our jobs kept us on the road) Small town living where everyone knows your name, getting involved in community, lingering after church to brag about your gifted grandchildren; it just doesn’t get any better than that. Look forward to entering the contest. Win or not, it’s a chance of a lifetime. Thank you for all the opportunities you offer people for a chance at seeing their dreams come true.

  19. My husband and I love everything about the house and its unique lay out. Although most of our families have moved to Florida: (Orlanda, Delray Beach and West Palm Beach), we continue to turn a deaf ear to their urgings to fly south as we remain in New Jersey. Should we win, this house changes everything. We will definetly sell our house and enjoy all that Florida and family has to offer.

  24. My husband and I are retired and living in Missouri. We love Florida and are there whenever we can. We have friends who live year round and friends who winter in Florida and would love to be a part of that community. Florida holds many fond memories for us. Sure would be nice to live in the new green home. Thanks!

  25. Once again HGTV is pioneering a legacy instilled with concern for things bigger than man. Your drive to preserve and educate on that which is both irreplaceable and precious will be felt for generations. You have once again proven that the closer man is to nature, the better we all look and feel. The creativity in this green gem is ever-abundant — you have yet to disappoint. Thank you!

not believe I saying this but It’s getting harder and harder to take the cold anymore
here in Mich. When it used to be I couldn’t
take the heat. Being green would be wonderful for all my Asthma, and breathing problems. Not to be cooped up all winter.
WOW again I sure would love to win. This home is the best yet.

  28. This house looks amazing. I think it’s a great idea to make an eco friendly house. Also I love the Spanish inspired look. My nephew is half Hispanic and I just love the Spanish look. I myself have been taking steps to “go green” and I could see myself living here. I live in Daytona Beach and I’m happy to see this house is located in Florida. I can’t wait for the chance to win this house.

Everyone at HG and HGTV are purely amazing!

  33. Great computer rendering. How about a virtual tour as the architect has the house laid out? It would be fun to see it without the furniture and stuff. I always think that is the part I like doing. taking the floor plan and putting furniture in it that I would think fits the style and location.

  35. I’ve read the Thomas Friedman book “Hot, Flat and Crowded” that is posted on this page. What a pleasure it is to know that HGTV is promoting this important testimony to going green and then doing something about it with the 2009 Green Home. Florida lags far behind in everything “green” and it is wonderful that you are building this home here. The design seems the perfect blend of “island”, “farmhouse”, and “Old Florida”. The architect did a great job on the interior and exteriors. Needless to say, I’m anxious to continue to read about the green features in a lot of detail. I hope the home is able to obtain the highest green ratings. I’ve been talking with an architect in the SEattle area who is working to build homes that includes all interiors green including furniture and accessories. I’m looking forward to the interior elements as well as the exterior. Hoping to see the landscape design taking into play the real issue of lawns here in Florida–horrible wasting of difficult water resources. I’m certain your teams will take that into consideration!

  36. this house is so perfect. i hope i win this for my grad daughter who has brain cancer, it is a very aggressive cancer and to be able to live in florida where it is warm would be so good for her. we currently staying at the indianapolis riley childrens hospital. keep up the good work, i love the going green ! penny williams

  37. major rooms should have huge windows for view, light, traffic, and cross ventilation. Guest room should not share a bath with a child. The laundry should be switched with the bathroom near the kitchen, and that indented space should be storage. The sitting room should be a guest and/or office. This home has lots of sitting space. The front door needs a large covered porch for neighborhood visiting and for cooling shade. What is the function of the tower to qualify it for “green”
Looking for your reply, V. K. Peters

  38. I am happy to see such a beautiful home that is not only going to be green, but looks to also be handicap accessible. For people like me who are trying to go as green as possible and are also in need of assistive devices to get around, this floor plan appears wonderful. Way to go Jack and all of your associates!

  41. It’s great to see HGTV building another Green Home, but I would really like to see how a green home can withstand the changes in climate that occur in the Northern states. So here’s the challenge: build an energy efficient Green home in a Northern midwest state. Can you do it?

Darlene Erxleben on January 8, 2009 at 11:07 am
  42. I’m sorry but I cannot see the whole thing. The archives list is right over the top of the picture on the left side. I do see the back of the house and it looks interesting. The master suite must be behind the archives list.

Jolene Meyer on January 8, 2009 at 12:25 pm
  43. HGTV’s dream homes are awesome. I’m glad you’re building a green home. Please remember to think about the elderly/disabled and when building up include ramps and elevators. The width of bathroom doors and shower doors is really important for wheel- chair bound folks, too. Keep up the great work.

Judy on January 8, 2009 at 11:02 pm
  44. The house is beautiful, I love it

Wilfredo on January 9, 2009 at 2:46 pm
  45. It looks great i hope you make it disable / elderly friendly. Nothing hurts more then have someone you love end up in a wheelchair and on top of that they cannot do any family functions because nobody has a home they can get into. It would be nice if you would desing the home to grow old and disable if that happens.

bob on January 10, 2009 at 12:09 am
  46. I love the layout and the design of the house. On top of that, my wife is a Florida girl. I would love to bring her back and into this house. I can’t wait until the sweepstakes for this house starts. Forget the Dream Home 2009,I want the Green Home 2009. With 1 kid here and 1 on the way, this house would be wonderful for them to grow up in. My wife and I have been struggling to find a place of our own and this would make a wonderful house to live in. I so can’t wait until it is finished and ready to win. :-D

  49. wow,
i am in tears, when i was a little girl i always wanted to live in a solar home, i just loved the idea of it, but what brings me to tears is the fact that my father help to build several homes in my home town , my favorite was a spanish revival style home, which is very unique up hear in the northeast, he used to promise to bulid me a solar home just like that one, well, you promise you children the moon and he would have if he could. even though he is gone , this lovely home took me back on my fahter’s lap. anyway, it is stunning home, i love the modern edge to it as well, whoever gets this wonderful home i feel a kinship with..wow!

Too small to even have overnight guests….makes me so sad as we have 3 sons & 7 grandchildren. It would be a great blessing to our family if we were to win this lovely house. Keep up the good work!
