  3. Hello Gail,
I’m glad HGTV got you a camera and now you can answer us from home.I hope it will be faster for us.

    My questions are

    How thick are the walls?

Is the windows double or triple pane?

Is the yard maintained by the home owner association?

How tall are the ceilings, low to high?

Is fencing allowed? To keep the gators away.

I know why the front door hinges are on the outside it’s for coastal winds so as not to blow the door inside but how is the door secure from a thief taking the door off from it’s hinges?

Thanks Gail, glad we have you to answer all of our questions.

    Sorry,I have one more

Is there a rose garden and fountain?

  4. Good Morning Gail! Thank you for the GREAT video this morning! It sounds like the Green Home is really coming together, and it will be wonderful to see it furnished!! It will be refreshing to see a home full of reclaimed or sustainable wood furniture. Will there be recycled glassware, organic fabrics, handblown green recycled glass,
handcrafted rattan fruit baskets with a fine honey brown finish, and eco-friendly bamboo instead of wood bowls for serving salads, pastas or snacks? Oh my, it will be exciting to see it all come together!!

Maybe I miss the answer to this question, but I was wondering if there will be radiant heated floors supplied by solar (solar water heaters)????

organic cotton chef’s trio are a natural in the kitchen. Adjustable

  7. I think it is admirable that HGTV is again building a “green home”. Maybe not in my life time but someday a “gren home” will be considered the only way to build homes.

So when and where can one go to enter the green home sweepstakes?

  11. Hi Gail and fellow greenhome bloggers.
This is going to be one great site. What a wonderful idea to give you your own camera. It will make it easier on you Gail to do it from home and in Florida.
I have already asked about the fencing and the ammenities. Is there a community pool and fitness center? Also are there places to do canoeing and rowing on the waterways?
I know that I will love the enterior. Linda always has great ideas and attention to detail. I am hoping for more pictures. :)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Dream big.

  12. Hi! My husband Kris and I own a painting company, and we were wondering: what kind of paint was used for the HGTV Green Home? We are always on the look-out for the newest products for painting green, not only for the environment and our customers, but also for our’s and our employees’ safety while the paint is being applied. Thanks!

How far inland is the home?

Thats all I got for now but I am sure that there will be more to come~heehee! I cant wait to start entering. :)

  15. Hi Gail,I found the answer to my question to you on how thick are the walls.HGTV PRO put up some new videos today and my question was answered on the one about ICF,the walls are about 6″ thick.Just wanted to save you a little trouble.

  16. Hi Gail.

Well….I went to HGTV Pro and saw SOME of the interior spaces of the Green Home. Who couldn’t be excited and filled with questions about it!

First, where is the placement of the wine fridge in the GH?

Next, Is there a pantry for the tall appliances?

Then, will Jack include another shoe trundle at the back of this home near the back entry for our shoes? LOVE that shoe trundle and haven’t been blessed with one…yet.

And will there be a drying rack that can be used for our delicates that we don’t/can’t put into the dryer between the garage and home in the breezeway?

Finally, what is going to be built in the field behind/ beside the GH? More homes? More shopping?

How many questions do you want us to post?

Trish on March 14, 2009 at 7:13 am
  17. Welcome to our new Green Super Fan, Gail. Glad to see you continuing your successful working relationship with HGTV, first with the Dream Home, now the Green Home, and what could be next, the stars?!

I know you have been SO busy recently, Gail, with the drawing for the Dream Home, and your camera-toting visits to explore the Green Home. Looking forward to your reveal of all the inside scoop to us curious bloggers. More questions to come, and certainly many more answers (and surprises) to be revealed….

  18. Hi Gail,
Thanks for the wonderful video and keeping us updated.
I know someone asked how close to the beach is the GH but is the beach swimmable, safe, or shallow? How about snorkeling? Just love the water activities. Really about all this old body can do, well padded and can’t sink—O-)

  26. Dear Gail,

What can you tell us about the wooden braces around the palm trees please? Are they there on a temporary basis during construction? Or will they remain there until the trees are established and can withstand a storm? Thanks! [I'm sorry if this has already been asked. I tried to search the blog before submitting this.]

  27. Hi Gail

Let me just say that you are doing a great job with keeping up with the blog. My question about the house is… does the house come equipped with a solo powered roof? If not will they place one? Plus is there a green house and a composting area for the garden? Thanks Gail I look forward to hearing from you..

  28. Gail, your vlog is so fun! You are a natural. I really enjoy watching you and am so glad you will be our “eyes and ears” on the GH. I WANT IT!

    Anyway, my questions:
is the land included in the give-away or is it a lease?
    Are there HOA’s?

  30. Welcome to the Green home Gail! You are an added bonus here. I’d like to know if this house also has a tankless water heater? They are without a doubt a energy saver…so I hope the house is equipped with one.

Thank you HGTV for realizing Gail’s popularity!

  32. I am going to sign up everyday, because that is where we wanted to live three years ago. We could not afford to buy a home, and the whole family was cramped up in a townhouse, so we moved out of state, but my son would not leave his school, friends, and the family has been split up.

  34. Hi Gail,

I was so excited to learn about the HGTV green home in Port Saint Lucie. I live in the same county (St. Lucie) and have visited
Tradition to go shopping and saw the Beach Boys in concert almost a year ago. When you come to visit again let me know so I can take you out to some fun places. Traditon is a wonderful community and I can’t wait to find out the address and pay to tour the home. Do you have any idea when that will be? I would love to win the home but I doubt another Florida person will be a winner. I definately will encourage my sisters up north to enter. I miss them dearly and wish one of them would be near me again. The weather is fantastic today as it is most of the year. It gets hot in the summer but you get used to it with the a/c everywhere and so many places to go swimming to cool off. We have had some hurricanes but this is a very strong house as it is built to hurricane standards and Tradition is a fantastic new community with underground utilities. I am sure if there is any poor weather the winner will be able to comfortably live through it. I have been through 3 storms and before I moved here there hadn’t been a major storm in 50 years. I wonder if the builder will consider building in a back up generator just in case. Do you think that would be possible? Well good luck to all that enter. Thanks in advance for answering the questions about the possible tours, back up generators, etc. Good luck everyone!

  35. How can I find out more about the Super Fan? Is it a new area? How many homes are there now and is it a gated community?

    Trish/NC on March 19, 2009 at 7:05 am
  36. I was wondering that too…
Does where you live influence the winning? I am from Fla. too, so my guess is that you choose people based on where they live? Or is it all random? I would love an honest answer to that question.

    Thanks,

Lisa on March 19, 2009 at 9:47 am
  37. What a practical design! It is so good to see a dream GREEN home that is representative of today’s mindset. I do have a question regarding homeowner’s insurance in the St. Port Lucie area. While keeping in mind our not-so-friendly hurricanes, on average, what would be the cost to cover a home of this value?

  44. Is there a way to get to all the pictures easily? I see some, like the patio with lounge chairs & then can’t find them again. I’m trying to figure out where it’s located in relation to house. Is there an updated floor plan that shows the garage, patio, grill, boccee court placement?

Are the clerestory windows operable for the passive air circulation to minimize air conditioning & improve air quality? Is the drywall paperless to minimize mold?

This seems to have opened up my eyes to what can be done besides recycling. The house is gorgeous. I’d like to put a for sale sign up in my yard! Diane
