Public Tours are Coming

Good morning, greamers! (Deryck, I love that name.)

I’m so glad you have all enjoyed the Load-In Day video. Trust me, there is much more to come. I am also really excited that it has inspired you to live a “greener lifestyle.”

Cheryl S, the backyard would be large enough to accommodate a small pool (you would probably have to build it where the bocce ball court is located). And there will be charity tours of the HGTV Green Home 2009. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee. Tour dates are April 20 through June 15. Tour times are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 days a week. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the Tradition Welcome Center.  For more information, please visit traditionfl.com or call 1-800-ST-LUCIE. Enjoy :)

Tasha, your visitors will be able to get from the garage/driveway to the house via the breezeway that connects them.

Magoo, you asked about the lovely lake with the water spray. It’s called Lake Tradition and is located near the welcome center.

For even more information about the green features of HGTV Green Home 2009, check out the final photo gallery in HGTVPro.com’s Building the 2009 HGTV Green Home package.

One last thing: Lovely Kitty, what are the details for the SISBP? Is it still happening? When and where?

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. Sheryl, I am so happy to see you were able to go on the GH2009 Tour…. !!! I love reading your blog about how much you loved it… Also, I know a few bloggers are still interested in having a pool at the Green Home… Pools are normally a waste on resources and not environmentally friendly. BUT, there are a few ways to change that… One way — Install a Natural Pool, that use materials like gravel, stone and clay. Add aquatic plants instead of chemicals, as they enrich the pool with oxygen, supports beneficial bacteria that consume debris and potentially harmful organisms. It will also give habitat to frogs, dragonflies and other water life. A natural pool can e constructed for as little as $2,000, by doing it yourself… and remember to add an aerator. If that is “too Green” … You can build a pool out of ICF (insulating concrete foam… that contains 85% recycled polystyrene (made up of old packing peanuts and styrofoam cups mixed with cement and concrete)..reducing heating use in the pool.. Also use glass tiling made up of recycled glass bottles and a DE (diatomaceous earth) Filter that removes particles as small as 5 microns and are the most effective and energy efficient as you manually rinse it instead of backwashing… Also, make it a salt water pool, reducing need of chemicals… Every year they are coming up with new products that are eco-conscious..when we demand a healthier environment for our families !!! Good Luck !! Love life by living green !

  2. I was so exited when I saw all the pictures of the green home. You would have though it was mine. All of you did a great job. I get so excited everytime I hear about it,look at more pictures,or enter for it on the internet. Good luck to the winner.

  3. Hi Renee and thank you for the nice comments to my blog! :) Regarding the pool, the one thing everyone would need to remember is that the 2009 GH is across from a very large lake and open terrain. If you build a pool, it will have to be enclosed due to the possibility of alligators. I have seen all around Port St. Lucie and Tradition, where ever there is water, you have the warning signs of possible alligators. It would just be one more thing the design team would have to take into consideration for the home. I think personally, the home is just perfect the way that it is. If they are looking to do a pool and they want to go to the added expense, then I say go for it, but it would need to be somewhat enclosed for the protection of the homeowners. I have to tell you, I fell in LOVE with Port St. Lucie and Tradition, FL. I extended my stay from 4 days to 8 days. Jensen Beach which is 25 minutes driving time is breathtaking! The people in Tradition and throughout Port St. Lucie define the southern hospitality to a new level. Everyone treated me with such courteousy and strangers became friends in a short period of time when I was there. I fell in love with the area so much I put a contract on a home in Port St. Lucie West! I figured it would make a great second home to getaway from the cold in Kansas. I also figured my chances of winning is a trillion to one and it’s a place that I don’t want to leave up to chance to own there. I encourage everyone, if you can afford to go, head to Port St. Lucie, Florida. This was my first vacation in over 2 years and I am glad that I went!

  4. Sheryl….. thank you for adding to my comment on the pool… I forgot to mention that you would need to enclose the pool.. but, you must get a permit first.. and in order to get a permit to build a pool, they will require that you enclose it … besides the “Gators” they are too many drownings !! I can’t imagine jumping in my pool and meeting a hungry gator…. Yikes…. I am happy to hear that you had a wonderful time in Port St. Lucie… I haven’t been yet… But, will go in June, hopefully, once we unload out furniture into our rental in Ft. Lauderdale.. My husband visited Port St. Lucie many years ago and said he loved it.. When I told him that the Green Home 2009 was being built there… He said that he has always wanted to live there.. He laughs at me, as I have been obsessed in entering the HGTV Dream Homes for the last 10 years and now the Green Home since last year !!! He said that this is the one.. and my son loves it too !! My son loves to look a Gators, but not to swim with them..LOL !! Thanks again, for reminding us about the enclosure if the winner decides to build a pool… Even though the Ocean is just a few minutes away..(if I won and decided to put in an eco-conscious pool,, I would keep the bocce ball court and make it a small pool in front of the outdoor “Florida” room) Sometimes, you just want to take a nice dip late at night to cool down and relax and my son loves swimming… he never wants out of the water !! Love life by living green !!

  6. Thanks again Renee for your comments :) I have to admit, a nice eco friendly pool would be the perfect way to end the day in Tradition, FL!

  7. This home is just beautiful! HGTV always knows how to make a statement! Just awesome! My little girls have already ‘picked’ out their rooms! I would love to live in this home, in the county where I was born many moons ago! Haven’t been this south in about 30 years! Beautiful part of Florida too! Hope its near a Publix!

  9. You sure have to give HG Dream Homes Sweepstakes credit for allowing all the different comments. it’s great and it is healthy to know all sides of any situation, even a “Gift” can pose a problem if the person being given the gift cannot afford to take title because of the extra monetary requirements placed upon the winner. It is rather obvious that most people are going to have to make some adjustments to the home if they wish, and if of course they win. I personally was surprized to hear about how small the rooms were, and how the furniture doesn’t really fit as it should on a designer home. Best to have all the information and not wear blinders. There are a number of things that could be done to correct most of the negative points. For instance one could buy the lots next door if they are reasonable and expand the landscape for a more private homesite. There are many things to consider including Insurance, which my family who live in Fla. say is sky-roketting. Sometimes it pays to look a gift horse in the mouth. Hooray for all the comments and we shouldn’t be afraid to hear the truth. Thanks too to HG Dream Home Sweepstakes, for giving all of us a chance to Dream, and to Renee for fielding the flack, as well as Micheala & Gail for an honest observations. Good Luck to everyone!

  11. HI How is everyone? Hope everyone is well. I must say the house is beautiful. I am truly in love with it. I would like to know does the HGTV network allow people who do not reside in Florida a chance to win this home. For example someone who lives in New York City? (In one of the five boroughs).
Thank you so much! have a blessed day.

  12. Awesome House!! I can already see myself laid back on the porch reading a good book!! I am already planning to move to Florida in september, and getting away from KANSAS! I would love love love to WIN this house, and would beg borrow or steal(just kidding) to pay the taxes and fees to live there. Hope there’s a miracle in store for me. I am ready!

  13. Gail,
How dangerous is to live there concerning hurricanes and floods? How much damage Wilma caused in 2004? Meaning people never sure how long them house will last. How come other houses were damaged and Civic Center was not damaged? Is that mean that other houses are not well built as Civic Center is?
Is that mean that people living in St Lucie do not have easy sleep worrying of hurricanes and floods that they can be killed, washed away or loose them house and properties?
Without danger, I love The Green Home.

  14. Have enjoyed all the blogs, info, and greaming! Mom and dad died recently, I am living with friends, visiting children and grands, but what a wonderful “gream” to own a home again so lovely to have them visit me sometime. Seeing the pictures of the home being built was like watching my parents building their home, stuffing insulation.. not green but helpful. God bless all the greamers!

  15. Wow I love this house and my little girl was just amazed with the room. I would love to live in such a eco-friendly and beautiful house.

  16. Hello, we are down here again in FLA. I just love the new Green Home. We are staying in Lake Mary and would love to tour the house. We are only here until Saturday.

  17. I have been reading some of the blog posts with a lot of questions about the area and the house but do not see many answers. I own a home directly across the lake from the HGTV Green House and can answer these questions. First of all, the house faces it’s own beautiful lake which is not Lake Tradition near the visitor center as I saw written. Lake Tradition is only one of many beautiful lakes in the entire community. My house faces our lake with the Green House directly across. In fact, I was thrilled to see my house featured in the TV show. When a panoramic view was shown across the lake, there was my house. I live in The Estates by Toll Brothers. These are luxury home sites and to me is the most beautiful in all of Tradition. Someone asked if the HGTV Green House was part of a development that has not been built yet since it appears to be all alone. Yes, it is alone. The surrounding land is yet to be developed and it is not certain what is going up around it. The HGTV house is a stand alone house. All the other communities by the various builders are gated communities. I did want to tour the house but was disappointed to find out only part of the proceeds were going to a charity. I think all the proceeds should be donated since most if not all of the materials used were most likely donated in lieu of commercial advertisement. But the house is lovely and the decor superb. I especially like the red bird picture in the lounge area and the 2 alligator pictures in the study. Love them! Would really like to know where they got those. And the natural wood table in the entry way. Really beautiful furnishings and assesories. I hope people will come to Tradition. It is a lovely place to live with many choices for all budgets.

  18. The thought of this whole thing is overwhelming.I live in PA.. Last year my daughter,son-in-law and my 2 grandchildren moved to Florida because of his job. It has always been a dream to retire in Florida. Now that they moved to Port Saint Lucie,no less. We are starting to look for a home in St.Lucie. Winning this home would be an unbelievable dream come true.(I can dream like everyone else)

  19. I absolutely looove this house. Since I heard about this sweepstake I have been entering religiously. I'm so excited. I'm a young mom of two beautiful little girls and we've been living with my mother in law and i can't wait to finally own a home. It would be great to give my family a home of our own. I think i will cry if I don't win. Well, best of luck to everyone. (i'm keeping my fingers crossed)

Melissa from FL. on May 22, 2009 at 6:00 am
  20. Carole E. Lester, thanks for the info. When I win, I would love to meet my neighbor across the lake. We’ll talk about the two alligator pictures…perhaps you will receive them as a gift from me. :-) I live in Largo, FL and my husband and I are considering driving over for a tour. In your opinion, would it be worth the drive or are the observations posted accurate? I was certainly educated by all of the discussion on this blog, and I want to thank everyone for their input. Blessings to all.

  21. I currently live on the West Coast of Florida, just North of Tampa. I have yet to visit the East Coast, but cannot wait. I would love to tour the house, but I haven’t had the time to take the trip. This home is so beautiful, but it does make me nervous that it sits all alone. With the way builders have been folding down here, I am concerned that the community surrounding this dream home could fail. I hope that the Dream Home will help potential home buyers to lock in to their futures near by. Just love the house. I enter every day to win this home!!!
I know that my family would be happy there!!!!
    Good Luck everyone!!!

  22. Hey- I love the design and layout of the HGTV Green Home. I can’t wait to see who the lucky winners are going to be. I register to win everyday and pray every night that my family will be the lucky winners. It has everything we could ever dream about in a home. We are counting down the days until we find out who gets the luxury of living in such a beautiful home.

  24. I guess everyone wants that house! Me too! ;-)
I want it a lot. I love it so much, it is great, and it has solar panels and all the other gadgets for preserving water etc.
I am trying to not to get sad if I will not win.
I like the design of this house more than the 2009 in Sonoma. It is more cozy, more pleasant.
I just hope so much for my good luck, but I will be happy for the others too, and sad for myself…..my daughter has asthma, and warm, humid air helps her so much, that she does not have to be on medication… This would be perfect for her, and us…..
    well, we will see…

  31. My hubby and I had the opportunity to visit the HGTV Green home today. We live in PSL and were shopping in Tradition. A beautiful place. Was not thrilled by the floor plan but it is a lovely home. What on earth is with the huge horse in the dining room? Only a horse lover would appreciate it. A triptic or quartet of shells or other FL pictures would have been much more appropriate. Am entering each day but as has been acknowledged, I/we would sell the home if we win it. We already have a fabulous home right here in Port St. Lucie.

  33. The house is beautiful, honestly I am tickled by some of the responses. Very good questions and comments, but some are written as though they have plans to move in June 28th…wishful thinking? :) It would be wonderful to have such a nice place to settle in, and such a great part of Florida! My question would be regarding the taxes on a won property, it would be fabulous to win it but as a single mom and student I don’t think I could foot for the taxes…how does that work? It would be a blessing though.

  35. The house is everything needed to save a New Englander from frigid winters…not to mention baseball spring training camp games..the closeness of Hutchinson Island, Ft. Pierce and West Palm just down the road a piece.. A dream come true…..

HOW FOR DO I HAVE TO WALK TO GET TO THE OCEAN? ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW SOON I CAN MOVE IN? MY BAGS ARE ALREADY PACK AND I LIVE RIGHT UP THE HIGHWAY IN JACKSONVILLE. I RETIRED FROM USPS LAST YEAR AFTER 31 YEARS, DUE TO DISABILITY (MS), AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO LAYING BACK ON THAT WONDERFUL PATIO FURNITURE, WITH A GOOD BOOK, AND A GLASS OF ICE TEA. THANK YOU HGTV FOR MY NEW HOME. THE ONE I AM IN NOW IS ABOUT TO GO INTO FORCLOSURE, AND NEED ALOT OF REPAIRS ON IT. BUT ALL IS WELL, AND GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD. GOD BLESS YOU, GOD LOVE YOU, SEEK, FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU. IN JESUS NAME
