Maryland, or Missouri
Missouri
Maine
Missouri….
oops, i didn’t scroll down. now i see a lighthouse, so, maybe Maryland?
Massachusetts
I think it might be Mass.
and i didn’t even think of Maine!
I think it’s missouri
so, i’m gonna go with Maine.
Missouri or Massachusetts is my guess.
Maine
MISSOURI!!!!
Massachusetts—the cranberries are a big clue
St. Louis Missouri
My husband and I both say Saint Loise, Missouri.
It’s in Missouri!
I only know of 1 arch & doesn’t that connect the twin cities of Minneapolis & St Paul. But do they have lighthouses, lobsters would be Maine or Massachussets. Do they have an arch?
Michigan. About time someone win in Michigan. I live 3hrs away from sagninaw michigan.
Missouri is my guess…but the photos are tricky, some seem like Maine instead of Missouri! When do we find out?!
Mississipi maybe?
lol. There definitely isn’t an arch connecting Minneapolis and St. Paul…. Although I wish the house was in MN. That arch is in St. Louis, Missouri right?!
missouri, minnesota,
maine maybe
Dear Mary: You know that I love lighthouses, so my guess for now is going to be Ludington, Michigan…I believe the photo of the lighthouse is Ludington North Breakwater, Lake Michigan, Ludington, Michigan!! I’m Greamin’ Big!!
I will have more time later to evaluate the other photos!! Thank you for the new post!
Only Two hours and fifteen minutes before everyone will know who the lucky winner is!!GOOD LUCK!!
Sorry to shout!! LOL!! I am fond of Missouri (MO) as I am a big St. Louis Rams fan and this year marks the 1999 Super Bowl team when they were “The Best Show On Turf” and I just bought Nike shoes that have the old school Rams colors from when Eric Dickerson played for them!! Awesome!! I think the 2010 Green Home being there will be great to see and will be very enjoyable to watch develop and come alive! I look forward to that one and I am having faith to God himself that I will be the 2009 HGTV Super Fan as that deadline draws near on July 1! I am confident I will win that one!
I saw the special and really enjoyed it and want to give a heartfelt thanks to all that made the home and specials possible! Mary, Gail and all of the HGTV & Scripps Network talents served well before the big night tonight and I am glad that I witnessed it!!
Great job everyone and Thanks so much for all of the hard work HGTV online crew! I appreciate the work and hope that we can work together soon! I look forward to keeping the HGTV Bloggin’ goin’!
-Your Confident 2009 HGTV Super Fan!
I believe that it is Maine.
Missouri!
Right I’m thinking either Maryland or Missippi.
It’s Missouri for sure.
Maine!!!!!!!!
Sorry I got one of the twin cities wrong, still too excited to think right
no doubt MA
Michigan fits all the picture
I would love the location to be Maine (with most of the pics pointing to Maine), but I only know St. Louis to have the Arch. We only live a couple of hours away. Time will tell…
When my son was applying to schools we visited St. Louis and I swear that looks like the Gateway Arch, but lobsters in Missouri??
They’re playing with us, I googled arch + Mass, Maine & Missouri. Found an arch that looks the same on the Missouri result – Gateway Arch Riverfront, but they don’t have lobsters or cranberries.
First a 20 minute special now pix from different states. Not playing nice. Don’t they know how serious we get?
All the pictures post to different M states. But I am sure hoping it’s Maine
8 M states & 8 M pictures, bet there’s a picture from each state, so no narrowing down the field from the pix.
Maine…most the pics are of Maine. One is Mississippi and one is Missouri…but I think the majority are Maine.
I bleive it’s Maine
Hmmm….My guesses would either be Maine or Missouri. I live in Mississippi and the only photo up there that would be close is the picture of the trees in the water.
mass.
he photos are of all 8 states that begin with and “M” except the bottom right which is misidentified as Montana The photo is from Montana de Oro state park in California. Come on folks if you’re going to give clues do your homework!!!
Maine!!!!!!
I think with the picture that the next green house will be in Maine. Really love light houses!
Missouri, Only state I know that has the arch!!!
Opps I meant bottom left. Senior moment.
Maine!!!!
IT’S MISSOURI!!!!! That’s the St. Louis arch. I’m from Kansas City… It should be interesting to find out where at in Missouri it will be!!
Other than the picture of the Arch, the remaining pictures really indicate Maine–lobster, cranberries, lighthouse!
St. Louis Missouri! You people make me sad you live in this country and you have no idea about it!
Missouri for sure am telling i saw that thing round that looks like an egg.
in front of the lake the first photo.
Louisiana
I think someone’s tricking us. On tonight’s TV giveaway, they showed mountains and Carter OOsterhouse said the next 2010 Green Home Giveaway was in a state that began with “M”, and showed MT-looking mountains. However, the Metro Rapid transit was shown and that’s in Los Angeles. Then to make it more confusing, the website photos show the St. Louis, MO arch, “Maine” lobsters, cypress trees from Mississippi, a lighthouse (which could be found in Maryland, MA, or ME. So what gives?
Where in the world did you get Maine from….hellllloooooo you can get lobster anywhere!
I hope it’s in Montana ,near Glacier National Park.OOOOhhhhhh..
Well, 8 states begin with “M” and you have 8 photos. Left to right, top to bottom you have represented Missouri, Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, Massachussetts, Mississippi, Montana – but someone screwed up; Montana de Oro SP is in California – so how about a real Montana photo; and lastly Maryland. So there’s no way to guess yet.
Marie, I looked up the lighthouse you mentioned & the pix match, so that would be Michigan. Lobsters & cranberries could be either Mass or Maine, Arch is definitely Missouri, I do think the trees in water could be Mississippi. Anyone recognize the lowest left, that’s what I would guess for Montana if it is one pic per M state.
Guess we’ll have to be our usual impatient selves waiting for the next blog topic for a new clue. Hope they don’t keep us waiting long
There are 8 states that start with the letter M and 8 pictures. It appears to me that each picture represents a different state. Based on the photos from the show I would say Minnesota is where the next Green Home will be built.
Not that it matters, but if you scroll down and click on the photo credits many of them reference what state they are taken in, which is where I got Maine from in reference to the lobsters. And plus yes you can get lobsters anywhere but Maine is known for their lobsters.
Definitely Missouri because of the St. Louis Arch shown in the 1st picture.
You show different pics from areas but I think it is going to be in Mississippi, to help rebuild the coast.
it’s MISSOURI !!
Regarding the comment from JMS: Maine lobsters have claws; most others, such as FL & Bahamian lobsters don’t…
Okay, our best clue may have been that 1.5 second glimpse on the special. Wish I could have recorded the show, then pause on the pic & search all the cities of all the M states. I would have said googled the cities, but I just downloaded the new “fight global warming” search bar (uses yahoo search)so I’m trying to transfer my google habit to make a difference.
Maine!! I used to live there:)
MONTANA! land of big skys!
I think it is a toss up but i hope it is Michigan,so i could win a house up north.
Maybe they’ve been listening to the blogs about helping to rehab an area & be really green, so Jeff could be right about helping to rebuild the Mississippi coast. Plus, they said it took about 6 months to build this GH & it would be hard to build in January in Maine, Montana, Massachussetts, Michigan & maybe even Maryland in the dead of winter. Not sure about Missouri weather in Jan-March, but I would think that would be cold & maybe snowy causing delays too.
Ok folks see if you agree. Starting from top and going left to right.
1. Missouri – arch in St. Louis
2. Minnesota – Land of 1000 lakes.
3. Maine – lobsters.
4. Michigan – the lighthouse a previous post stated.
5. Massachusetts – cranberries.
6. Mississippi – Cyprus trees? in the swamp
7. Montana – rock formations in the west
8. Maryland – boats in Baltimore harbor?
Any where it’s going to be great !!
can’t wait !!!!!
New Mexico would be my guess!
I see the St. Louis Arch, but the other images make me think of Maine or Massachusetts. Also, Maryland could be a possibility. Can’t wait to find out. This is all very exciting!
I think it is going to be Missori because the boats and the red lobsters and the city looks intresting or my dad been to it for his trip for work and business. My second thought is Maine because the pretty cranberry, or cherrys and arches in front of the city it is so beautiful!
Light houses for Maryland Lobster for Maine and Cranberries for Massachusetts. They all sound fabulous.
Definately, St. Louis, Missouri
Could it be somewhere along the Mississippi River?
It is 100% for sure Massachusetts! Massachusett’s state berry is the Cranberry!
Ok, the next question is going to be, what style do you think the new house will be? Do you think they’ll go more modern? 1 story or 2? Wonder if any of the M states allow windmill power? If it is one of the northern states, solar won’t work well for many months, unless the owner goes & sweeps the snow off them.
They’ll have to work hard, now that they’ve reached Platinum for this house we’ll expect the same for all future GHs.
I am going to guess Minnesota. It has cranberries, lighthouses, sailing and its on the mississippi river that has crawdads (if that is what those were?). So I think Minnesota is the best guess. The only thing that throws me off is the St. Louis Arch but that is on the Mississippi River so maybe that is what is in common with Minnesota.
Missouri
At the end of the HGTV Green Home giveaway there was the clue of the next state starting with an M, but the video that was also shown showed a shot of a city and a red Metro Rapid bus passing by. Metro Rapid is a bus service in LA, California. The video is misleading. Also, each picture represents each state that begins with the letter M. The top left in Michigan for sure. Michigan would be the perfect place the build the HGTV Geen Home 2010!
Wow – based on the mountains at the end of the special, I was convinced that it was Montana. However, I just watched the special again and put it in slow motion and when they pan down from the mountains onto the city street with the Metro Rapid they are in Los Angeles (as Rose correctly pointed out). So what gives? At this point, all 8 states beginning with M are up for grabs.
You know Maryland is a State that is working on being “GREEN” more than any of the others… They have been ahead of many others…. The pictures are confusing…they are descriptive “sites” from each of the eight States…I feel! The arch is definitely St. Louis, Missouri….but, it looks different .. in size… I have to do some research… which is good…. motivate me …. Love life by living green!!
I think it may be some where along the Mississippi River. The river starts in Minnesota flows past Minneapplois, Milkwaukee, then down to Missouri and then on the Memphis After Memphis, it flows thru part of the state of Mississippi before entering Louisana and ending in New Orleans
Washington state they have cranberries there too.
I am going to guess – Wisconsin. There are a surprisingly large number of lighthouses and that state grows the most cranberries. Now – I don’t know how the arch fits in to my state.
I bet its in mexico!!!
MAINE!!!
Great detective work Joe & Glenn. So much for real clues. Still think it’s a pic from each M state.
Renee, if you’re right about Maryland trying to be the “green state” then we can probably rule that out. They seem to try to pick places that aren’t so green-oriented -otherwise the first home would have been in Portland or some other advanced green city. Even with this house they stated they picked a community that the homes weren’t all built green to show that green can fit in.
“Mean Mary” is up to her old tricks again. She has posted a picture from each of the M states. Where’s another clue Mary? Are you going to have us running around in circle again with your clues?
Ed, how do you get that smiley on a blog post? Been trying to figure that out, but that’s not my forte. Guess I’ll have to go back to quotes
St Louis MO
Because of all the water and the lighthouse, I have to go with Maine…though it could easily be any other of the states. I don’t now! LOl. :]
I have Been to The Gateway Arch In St Louis Mo 1000s of times its in Missouri
I think that 2010 dream home will be build in the .st. Louis ,mo area
ITS ST. LOUIS MISSOURI!!!
Okay, I’m going with the Middleborough area of Massachusetts. It’s the home of Ocean Spray (the lighthouse picture) Cranberries (which are grown in bogs).
It’s definately NOT Maine… we don’t have any arches like Missouri does. It’s Missouri- just ask Carl Edwards.
Little Cranberry Island, Maine.
Is it missouri?
my kids say its in Louisiana. so that’s my guess..
It’s Mississippi…I know because of the arch.
now my son says its possibly Missouri. make up your mind.
Mississippi or Maine
I am pretty sure that is the arch in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.
I am positive this new 2010 dream house give away is in St. Louis, Missouri. The arch that goes from Louisville, Ky to St. Louis, Missouri is a great clue.
Massachusetts is my guess with the light house and cranberries.
There are 8 images above, each for a state that begins with the letter M. I am sure that the next Green Home is going to be in Maryland! My next guess would be Maine or Massachusetts. But definitely NOT Michigan, Mississippi, Minnesota, Montana, or Missouri.
St. Louis Missouri
Based on the mountains at the back of the city view, that they showed on the clip at the end of tonight’s give away episode, I would say Montana!
MY HOME STATE….MASSACHUSETTS
Missouri first came to my mind, too … maybe even the Ozarks!
Missouri! On the Lake of the Ozarks! Woot Woot!
Montana
Maine – hope so!!
Maine
Is it true, that the winner of any house(green or dream) have to pay huge tax- wich is impossible to pay for some families ? Did somebody know?
About state- i think it is MN.
if those are cranberries then MA is my guess. can;t beat the cranberries down the cape
Massachusetts…lighthouses, lobsters, cranberries, rock formations…cant find an arch anywhere but there probably is one, sailboats all signs lead me to Massachusetts
I believe it’s Mass
My son thinks it might be RI or MI
I am thinking that this is one of those really good tricks that they do to us… The pictures are a mix.. But, Mississippi has the Arch too!!! Kat, you are right about HGTV being the leader and starting the “green” trend for a City that hasn’t thought about it yet…. But, they will want to get local supplies… and it would help to have some “greenies” there, right?….. How exciting!!! I love Maine and Maryland…. Just got out of Mississippi when are trailer was hit with two flat tires during our move…. but, we ate at this Bayside restaurant that was fresh and fabulous… The people were so friendly!!! Lots of seafood!!!! I love the process… the guessing…. the research…. Love life by living green!!
It is Michigan! I recognize the street signs and I live in Michigan.
HONESTLY, JUST BEFORE THE SWEEPS ENDED PICTURES WERE SHOWN OF A SITE IN NEW MEXICO- IN THE MTS. SO THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. AS AFORE MENTIONED IT COULD BE ANY STATE BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER “M”. HOWEVER, I KNOW OF ONLY 1 ARCH, BUT THEN THE LOBSTER? THAT WOULD BE MAINE————SO IT WILL BE EXCITING TO FIND OUT THE EXACT LOCATION!
New Green community of 15 homes in Freeport Maine. $400,000 and up.certified LEEDS home.
KELSEY BROOK HOMES– 25 min. from Portland Maine.
Zhanna, the taxes are a worry, but that is why I was happy a blogger let us know about myunclestan.com. I will be sure to join them prior to entering any other DH or GH sweepstakes so they can pay the taxes for me. That is definitely worth the $5 investment.
Renee, I didn’t have great luck the first time I drove through Mississippi either, but maybe that just means we need to give it another try. And they did say last year they were trying to show that green products can be found almost anywhere these days.
Obviously from Carter’s mentioning certain blogger’s concerns they are paying attention so maybe they’ve also looked at our rehab concerns & how it would tie in with their Change the World campaign. There are some websites which talk about rehabbing the Mississippi coast post-Katrina including campcoastcare. They did have the last Design Star showdown working on Katrina victims. Plus the weather is better for building in those months & more opportunity for solar power.
Lobsters, cranberries, Lighthouses… I would guess Maine.
The HGTV Green Home for 2010. I think that any state that starts with the letter ‘M’ is possible. I highly think it’s going to be around Missori, Minnesota. I don’t know, we will find out.
the gateway, definitely missouri.
I think i going to go with Maine, but where ever it may be it will be great!
Maryland, Maine, Massachussets – it has light house =ocean
cranberries, lobster = near ocean
boats= ocean, big lake
mountains = many states…
but the arc is not in near ocean states
I guess we need to be confused…
I think, but I might be wrong. I would love Maryland.
St. Louis, Missouri
I think it is St. Louis Because that is where the arch is.
Saint Louis, Missouri
Missouri- Lake of the Ozarks or Branson/Table Rock Lake Area
Lewiston, ME
Could it be Lakes of the Ozarks, Missouri
Could it be Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
Hmm if we define ‘Green’ and what it truly means… using what is already there… not adding to the environment or taking away. HG & Moondoggy will rehab a site possibly something historical, maybe a houseboat or lighthouse please enlighten us Mary, hmm your name starts with an “M” do you happen to live in any of the states beginning with the letter M. Interesting twist.
Guess I wrote that twice and someone has the same idea!
Kat,
the smiley face: type it : then dash ( near plus sign), then parenthesis above zero…..it works for me
I am not sure if I will enter for more houses, I got exhausted emotionally, and I guess I have bad luck. Never won anything, so I might just read blogs, maybe write some, but I will do something useful.
I never liked mind games this way: to guess, being on pins and needles. So I am going to recover by painting, doing things
I am happy I met via blogs Kat, Renee. It feels like having more friends!
talk to you later…
Missouri. I recognize St. Louis and the arch.
Could be crayfish and not lobster in the pic.
I believe it to be Maine, wouldn’t that be a fantastic place for a new home
maine
1. St. Louis, Missouri
2. Long Lake, Minnesota
3. Maine (Lobsters)
4. Ludington, Michigan
5. Massachusetts-Cape Cod- (cranberries)
6. Midnight, Mississippi
7. Glacier National Park, Montana
8. Annapolis, Maryland
I think the Arch in St. Louis is too easy… Look at the arch in Mississippi… Plus you have lobster,,, cranberries,,, boating,,, marshes,,,mountains (though not like Montana, etc)…I am sure that there is at least on lighthouse!!! You guys at HGTV are “giving us a run for our money” again!! It is always what you least expect… but, I have a feeling that being Green has an emotional input and Mississippi is a very “needing” location!! They have the resources and climate. Kat, you mentioned some great points, again!! ;@) Love life by living green!!
My #1 guess is Portland, Maine. Ironically I live in FL but want to move back home to NE MASS would be my first choice. Would be wonderful if it was Cape Cod but pretty sure it is Maine.
I would go with Mississippi because they have had to rebuilt so much from the hurricanes along with LA-time to start anew and for them to go GREEN-and Midnight Mississippi does have some Green Programs starting up-so on that note.Good Night-I give up trying to figure this out…
St Louis Missouri. My father went to military school there i would recognize those pics from a thousand miles away
I would like to see the dream home in the Heartland…..Missouri. Springfield, Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, or anywhere would be wonderful. (And of course, close to me, in case I would win.)
Dottie in St. L
Oops, meant to say that the arch goes along the Mississippi River!! not Mississippi!! That is why it is more interesting… It is in Missouri but along the Mississippi River!!
After seeing tonight’s show, with the clues that were shown, I believe it is Montana.
I’m gonna say Traverse City, Michigan for Green Home 2010.
Coastal waters, Lighthouses, Cherries, Wineries, Tourism..
What a great place to build a northern style showpiece after all these sunny locations they’ve done.
Maine
I believe that the new green HGTV house is going to be built in Port St. Lewis, Mississippi. They have a “Port St. Louis/Lewis”, lobster house (5 of them), “Cypress Trees”, “Fishing Docks”, The “Mississippi River”, “a lighthouse” and “Cherries/Cranberries?”. So that is my guess, Port St. Lewis, Mississippi
Washington State fits the pictures…. probably somewhere on Puget Sound (Gateway to the Northwest) Several cities begin with M
Montana
1. First picture is the arch in St. Louis, Missouri.
2. The top right picture (lake) is Long Lake, Minnesota.
3. Maine Lobster
4. Lighthouse in Ludington, Michigan
5. Massachusetts is the leading cranberry producer.
6. Cypress Tree in swamp located in Midnight, Mississippi.
7. Glacier National Park, Montana (mountain picture)
8. Navy Fleet in Annapolis, Maryland. (sailboats)
There are 8 pictures, each picture represents one of the states that start with the letter “M’. And there is only 8 states with the beginning letter “M”. hmmm…
I wonder where the next location will be?
I enjoy these hints.
Well my guess is montana!
Awesome Glenna….. I was looking at it in the same way!! That is the fun part to this!! We do our research…and come up with various answers and then BAM, HGTV gets us again!! And they always make sense!! Crazy, right??
Okay Mary: This is what I find from my research regarding the photos. They are as follows:
#1: Gateway Arch Riverfront, St. Louis, Missouri
#2: Long Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota
#3: Maine Lobster
#4: Lake Michigan, Ludington, Michigan
#5: Berries grown in Great Meadows, Concord, Massachusetts
#6: Lake Providence (East Carroll Parish) Louisiana
#7: Glacier national Park, Montana
#8: Navy Fleet, Annapolis, Maryland
This is what I find interesting…seven of the eight icon photos taken in different states beginning with the letter M. The only photo representing a state shown without beginning with an M is Louisiana!! Photo six is a photo of Lake Providence, Louisiana!! So, I am going to take a wild pick, and say that maybe it is goint to be LOUISIANA ’cause it does not begin with the letter M.
Have I totally confused everyone?
WOW, bloggers are weighting in fast and furious. I’d say ‘Homeboy’ nailed the states first…each picture represents one of the 8 states that starts with “M”.
As for the photo titles, they are, in order:
“Mississippi River Saint Louis Arch…”
MISSOURI
“North Minnesota Lake”
MINNESOTA
“Maine Lobster”
MAINE
“Big Water-Ludington…Lighthouse”
MICHIGAN
“Cranberries”
MASSACHUSETTS
“Midnight Mississippi”
MISSISSIPPI
“Glacier National Park”
MONTANA
“Navy Fleet”
MARYLAND
You didn’t think MARY would give us the state right off the bat, did you? Hey, be thankful we’re not matching eyes to noggins!
So, dream on folks, and take your pick. Until the next wicked clue from task-master M is for MARY, we’ve got 8 states in which to browse perfect Green Home locations.
I think its Mississippi they tend to choose states with no personal income tax or if has income tax like all M states they tend to choose the lowest p.i.t state more often then not. This is based on all the d.h. and g.h.Not always but often thats the case.Im still hoping for Michigan though
Kat, did you notice that when they showed the blog tonight on the Giveaway that it was one of your blogs!! I noticed it rolling by so fast!! Just thought you would like to know!!!
Way to go Marie Miller…you squeaked right in there ahead of me! Great research.
But check out photo #6 (google “Midnight Mississippi photo”) I think it’s a match to MARY’s, and represents the 8th “M” state name.
So, which will it be…?
Marie, yes, I am totally confused… when I pulled up the picture it was in Midnight, Mississippi…. and Show Me, yes, you are right, Mary would never make it easy!!LOL!! We still have a lot of time!!! And it will only get more interesting!!
It is so Missori because of the Saint Louise Arch shown in one of the many pictures of the many possible locations.
I Think in Maryland
Missouri, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Massachusetts ? HGTV gave some great clues, but I think there is more to come. OK bloggers, we are off again to a new challenge. Isn’t this fun? 2010 here we come……………..
i’d like to say Maine because of the scenery and the lobster but the arch reminds me of Missouri…I’m sticking to Maine though
Saint Louis, Michigan!
The site is St. Louis Missouri. It is a very beautiful city.
Good Luck to all of us.
I’d like to say.It should be Missouri.
Kat, Kari did mention that she entered the sweepstakes “maybe 3 to 5 times” and that she loved the screened in porch and the Little Girl’s room for her 3 year old daughter!!! They were talking so fast…!!! Her Husband said it couldn’t have come at a better time and that he also needed a new car!!! He also said that HGTV is great a surprises!! Kari said “I said that I want cry”… but, there were tears!! Isn’t that wonderful for them!!
St. Louis, Missouri
Minnesota, perhaps? But from all of the other comments, I think I’m off… by a long shot.
It is definitly in Missouri!!! But exactly where in Missouri I am not to sure. But the state is most definitly Missouri.
I aggree it’s probably St. Louis, Missouri. The arch is a dead give away. I could see myself visiting or even living there =)
Gonna go out on a limb and guess Cape Cod.
It’s obviously Missouri!!!!!!
well,if it will in Virginia. Then would be not bad.
I believe either Maine or Michigan
Ludington, Michigan
St. Louis, Mo.
Starting with an “M” and snow capped mountains in the background of a large metropolitan area…It doesn’t look warm to me! But, the air looked clear and the city looked clean. Montana would be my guess.
it’s St. Louis, Missouri. The first picture they show is the gateway arch, as some know it as the St. Louis arch.
St. Louis, Missouri
WOW IT IS ST.LOUIS,MISSOURI
Your new HGTV Green Home Giveaway is in St. Louis, Missouri. The great arch gave it away.
i think is Missouri!!!!!!
Kansas City, MO
Being that Massachusetts has the 2nd largest cranberry crop in the U.S., it has to be the site.
There are 8 states that begin with M; the photos are of each of them. They are: Missouri, Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Maryland.
My guess will be Michigan any where close to the lake of Michigan. That will be a good location.
Well if the 8 pictures are from each of the 8 “M” states, then relying on the images shown on the giveaway special should have helped.
Too bad the city they showed on TV was Los Angeles, CA.
(Metro Rapid Bus, 213 area code on building, etc.)
??
its Michigan!
I beleive it to be Michigan. The designer of the St. Louis Gateway was raised in Mich, as well as went to school there. what looks like cranberries, could also be cherries, Lobsters are avaible any where.
It cannot be missouri because I have never seen a wave almost take out a light house in Missouri, let alone a light house in missouri. Could also be maine and mass. But I am putting moneu on mich until there are more clues.
I think it’s Mississippi.
Maine…gotta be Maine. Mmmm! Lobster!
I think its Massachusetts, or Missouri. Massachusets for the arch, boats, lobsters, and the light house. Missouri because of the arch, mounatian view and the lake/forest area. i love both places.
I think the new location will be either Maine or michigan?
It is definitely Maine…
st. louis, missouri
St. Louis does have mountains nearby. Brown mountain at 1390 ft and Taum Sauk mt at 1772 ft. It also Has the Gateway arch on the Missouri River. Which also may have a light house. I still think it is St. Louis Missouri
Hello Bloggers and HGTV, first of all congratulations to Keri and Mike on their win!! I did some research on the 6 photos. My guesses for the next Green home will be in: (cranberries) Massachusetts (swamp) Mississippi, lobsters (Maine), Michigan, Montana (the green valley) and Minnesota were all represented in the photos. So, it will be in either: Massachusetts, Mississippi, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, or Montana.
Go HGTV!!!
Beverly J. Strickland
Long Beach, Mississippi
i think its maryland because of mountains trees and sea
The 2010 greenhome is going to be in Mexico
Look at Flickr gallery at norrisbaby’s photo. His photo, 4th down on the left on this page is Glacier National Park in Montana. The person who mentioned Ludington, Michigan seems right about the lighthouse being there. Maybe the location isn’t narrowed down to one place yet.
I’m in shock! Alaska is number 40 on the list. What!! Things are not always what they seem… However Maryland is looking pretty good on the list of states beginning with “M” & Green locations.

Cut & pasted a couple of interesting statements as the entire text is pages long I felt Maryland should be posted since she is in the running…
Another example: Maryland. Only 10 states have a lower carbon footprint per capita than Maryland, and the state has a relatively low instance of water facilities exceeding their Clean Water Act permits, according to PIRG. In addition, Maryland ranks 40th in total energy consumption nationwide, and it managed less toxic waste per capita than all but six states in 2005. And earlier this year it joined a group of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states to cap greenhouse gas emissions and trade emissions credits.
So who’s at the bottom? Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Indiana and, at No.50, West Virginia. All suffer from a mix of toxic waste, lots of pollution and consumption and no clear plans to do anything about it. Expect them to remain that way.

Hi yall, more thought into my answer:
1. (Missouri) St. Louis; arch
2. (Minnesota), Lake Agnes??
3. (Massachusetts) cranberries,
4. (Mississippi) swamp,
5. (Maine) lobsters,
6. (Montana) green valley,
7. (Michigan) lighthouse; Ludington, Michigan
8. (Maryland) boats in harbor
Thanks and goodnight to all!!
Beverly J. Strickland
Long Beach, Mississippi
The St Louis Arch had me baffled. Determined however to connect all the fotos to my favorite Cape Cod destination and fulfill my fantasies I have found a connection after all. The Arch was designed by Eero Saarinen whose family reside on Herring Pond in Eastham, MA (Cape Cod) in the house that he designed. Please be Cape Cod. Then one more miracle; let me win. haha
Its either Maine, Maryland, or Massachusetts
Their are 8 states that start with the letter M. Each one of these pictures represent one of the states. These pictures aren’t another clue. The only clue we have is that it starts with the letter M.

Sorry… forgot to say great post – can’t wait to read your next one!
The green valley with the mountains in the background has to be my home state of MONTANA! Excellent choice.
With the cranberries and lobster, it’s got to be Maine. The lighthouses along the Maine coast are beautiful and the state is very environmentally conscience. The Arcadia mountains provide a winter wonderland. What is throwing me is the shot of the Arch in St. Louis. It’s almost an East Coast to West Coast collage of pictures.
My guess is Massachusetts or Maine. The lighthouse and the lobster are both signatures of Maine. The sailboats look like something you would see in Cape Cod in MA. Cranberries are grown in both Massachusetts and Maine. My guess is one of those two states.
There is a town that has some very nice homes and is very picturesque that I read about. The town is call
St. Lous, Maine
That’s my guess.
Oops, I forgot the I:
St. Louis, Maine
I will guess Maine Looking forward to see where it will be. It could be a number of different state beginning with M.
Mary Lou
Okay, this is my last post and my final guess. I forgot one more thing. I think the city is actually called:
St. Louis Field, Maine
Are there cypress trees in Maine?
Maine…Lighthouses, lobsters, woods, a port, it’s got to be.
Lewiston, Maine
I think it will be Maine. When do they actually announce where the location is?
Maine
The Arch is in Mo. The next picture could be Table Rock area. The lighthouse could be up on Lake Superior.
Where would I like the next house to be at? Minnesota or Montana
Mystery solved…
Ok, I say & even though I RARELY gambled in Vegas, I would bet on Mississippi. I finally figured out the easiest way to narrow it down. The GH isn’t like the DH. We have has 2 Green Homes, 2008 in Tradition, SC & 2009 in Tradition, FL. So when I searched Tradition master-planned communities, which is the 3rd community which happens to be in a state that starts with M? The Village of Tradition.
Here is the copy from their homepage:
http://www.traditionms.com
“Set in country highlands just 15 minutes north of the Biloxi beaches, Tradition welcomes you with graceful Southern architecture and time-honored, small-town design. More than just new homes, Tradition is a new hometown, combining the classic charm of a walkable Coastal hamlet with contemporary comforts and conveniences. The town’s first neighborhood, The Village at Tradition, is only the beginning — the first of a collection of communities catering to your needs, no matter what your stage in life.”
This is the newest Tradition community, website is dated 2008, just breaking ground on YMCA this summer, sure to be done in time for 2010 Green Home special. First residents moved in to community in 2008.
So does anyone want to bet against me?
I must be right since I’m in moderation again. I’ll try one more post without the website, but otherwise I know I figured it out & they don’t want to post my blog.
Here’s my try without the website:

PS.
Their website is traditionms dot com if you want to find out more.
Oooh Kat, you are a super sleuth. Makes sense, but how would the pics of the arch and mountains be explained? maybe I need to look at the geography of MS?? I wonder, if the pics are of Tradition neighborhood locations current and future???
Why didn’t I think of looking up Tradition last night? Must have been the excitement. Needed a break to clear my head and then I knew how to continue sleuthing.
It is a total fit because as I reasoned last night it would be so difficult to build in those snow-covered states during the time frame necessary for the GH special.
Guess I’ll give up my idea of a more modern look to the home. Highly doubt they will put a cube-style house in a community of “Mississippi vernacular architecture with gracious front porch galleries, classic lines and details, and outdoor living spaces to enjoy the natural surroundings”
Maybe a golf cart with this one too, since it includes a golf course community.
So any bloggers live in Harrison County to give us updates?
Massachusetts is my guess. Lighthouse, cranberries, lobster and they have twin cities of Fitchbury and Leomister.
Karen, I think those pix were like many of us figured, 1 picture per M state, just to keep everyone guessing.
Renee, Show Me, Coop, Marie, Mathew, you’ve been watching these DH & GH for a while, do you think I figured correctly?
Mississippi. The Arch goes over the Mississippi River. The Lobster looking things aren’t lobsters, they’re crawfish. Then there’s the marsh picture. The Lighthouse could be the one on Ship Island, MS. And the picture of apples really look like pomegranates. The snow picture, could be Woodhall Mountain in Northeast MS?
Missouri, Maine, Montana, Massachuttes, Mississippi
Kat, you may just be right!!! Great research!! Though the pictures are from each State, I would venture to say that they lead you to similar locations in Mississippi!! It makes sense that remain within the Tradition Family!! I can’t wait to get more clues!!! Exciting!! Love life by living green!! I have to do some more research!!!!
Kat, I noticed that the Tradition Community in Mississippi is not affiliated with the Core Company that developed Tradition Hilton Head and Tradition Port St. Lucie. Just another question to thicken the pot!!
The next one will be Maine or Massachusetts. The lighthouse, cranberry’s, lobster, and mountain views give it away. Looking at the pictures again i think i might have to go with Maine because they show mountain views and nice lake views. Mass, doesn’t have views like those.
It says this at the bottom of the website, Kat..I think you are close with your ideas but not sure if this is it..
“This project is not affiliated with any other ‘Tradition’ development located outside Mississippi and is not affiliated with Core Communities, LLC.”
First, CONGRATULATIONS to Keri and Mike! This is the best ambush I’ve seen so far…it actually looked authentic!! I’m truly happy for them, & could not believe it when Keri said she entered maybe 3 to 5 times! It goes to show you, you could send in thousands of snail entries along with a computer entry every day, and still it only takes one entry!! It was very exciting to see two of our bloggers show-cased on the “Give-away” show last night! Nice seeing the names of our beloved bloggers, Lynn Coggin & Kat, scroll by!!
Dear Coop: Thank you for your help with #6! When I looked up the photo, all I got as a match for #6 was Lake Providence (East Carroll Parish) Louisiana..I thought that was weird!! And, Carter said the next Green House would be build in a state beginning with the letter “M!!” So, I guess I’m going to stick with my very first guess of Ludington, Michigan. Mainly because of my love for lighthouses!!
Hi Kat: I love your gift of cognitive processing & transferring of information!!This is what I’m thinking (mine is usually a stream of unconsciousness): As the city was flashed before us so quickly last night, I could have sworn it looked like The Grand Rapids skyline centered on the Grand River! So, there is my big connection…the lighthouse (Located in Stearns’ Park, enjoy a half-mile walk on the breakwall to the 57 foot high tower), which is part of The Grand Rapids area!
Happy Greaming & Dreaming to all, and once again CONGRATULATIONS to Keri and Mike!!!
MGTOTD: SIMPLE WAYS TO WEATHER PROOF!!
Weather strip your windows and doors, and use caulking to seal around ducts, bypasses and any other openings in your walls. This will reduce drafts and air leaks. For more tips on saving energy, go to http://pge.com/myhome/saveenergymoney/savingstips/.
Looks like St. Louis, Missouri to me.
Maine!
I think it is Minnesota
Okay, Renee & Cindy, I was so excited I hadn’t noticed that. So now I went and reasearched Core Communities and their parent company Woodbridge Holdings. No other master-planned communities anywhere.
So, with the weather and other previous issues (revitalizing, close to major cities and the coast, etc)still being the same, and that Tradition Mississippi seems to have similar values and amenities, I’m sticking with this place. Thinking HGTV may have approached them or vice versa. Jack seems like a really nice guy and could probably negotiate a similar deal. Think of all the publicity the first 2 Tradition communities received. They are still in the early stages of development and this would get them national attention. It is 48,000 acres, I think there’s room for a green home.
Its Montana. Steve in Wisconsin.
My GUESS is Maine- lobster is clue for me
Kat, of the 8 states that MARY has initially presented us with (all are possibilities at this stage of the game) Mississippi has as good a chance as any of being the next Green Home site, but don’t bet the farm on it yet!
I would be concerned that the Mississippi Tradition project is not affiliated with any other “Tradition” development. Still, good research, and can’t be counted out.
Amazing how many minds are made up already on which state HGTV is going to for 2010! But, hey, why not just pick your favorite, make your case, and see if HGTV takes the bait! (Although I doubt it—the location is set at this point. Remember, Jack Thomasson is always way ahead of the game!)
Happy Hunting.
Only thing that throws me is the arch
I think the next site involves a state that is a gateway state surrounded by water where you can get the lobsters and the berries. Simplistic, right? But I was trying to get away from the literal interpretations of the photos shown. I think Maine or Louisiana. Wherever it is, it’ll be a great choice I am sure. Hi, everyone.
The arch is the Gateway Arch – St. Louis, Missouri, so my guess would be somewhere in Missouri…
When I saw the snow capped mountains at the end of the GH giveaway, I immediately thought MONTANA. However, Kat made a good argument re: HGTV building the green homes in Tradition communities. I checked the web site of the Tradition community in Mississippi, it could be a possibility.
I’m thinking its not in Mass because it there is no arch like that around the Boston area.
I’m thinking more north like Maine. Lets find out!!!
I think it’s either Maine Massachussetts or Michigan. but i’m personally wanting it to be in Massachusetts.
HGTV has been going for “planned” or “gated”
communities the last few times around – Mass, Maine, and Maryland do not set well with large lots of land for these type of developements – suspect a state with more areas prime for developement – always have weakness for warm weather – I will be watching, blogging, and enjoying the whole program……..
Ok, off the topic for a second, Renee are you planning on going to Broward Green League’s Summer Social July 11 at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park? That’s near you and you can meet others with similar interests to us. Green League social starts at 11am, Sierra Club is doing a park walk there at 8am. Let me know, if you go I’ll plan to attend, I’d love to finally meet you and your son.
I’m guessing Branson Missouri or somewhere in the Ozarks. There are master-planned communities in Branson.
I think it is in Missouri.
The St. Louis Arch is the first picture
Show Me, you’re so funny. First you were curious about Gail’s video & her wording being similar to your name. Now you tell me not to bet my last name:-)
Ok, more research – HGTV Change the World Campaign lists 2 M states in cities for change: Detroit, Michigan and St. Louis Missouri.
But I’m sticking with Mississippi because the CTW campaign didn’t seem to have anything to do with the last 2 GHs.
Montana
The Arch is definenately St.Louis Missouri. However the light house could be Lake ofthe Ozarks in Missouri. That would also account for the mountains, because the blackhills are there.Dont know what to think of the cranberries or lobster, unless they are showing all the fine dinning around the area,or maybe they are crawfish?A very closeup picture can be decieveing.
The arch looks like St. Louis, Missouri but
the lighthouse looks like Maine but then the
cranberries are probably Massachusetts.
Who knows?
Hoping it is Montana!
Kittery, Maine-There is a Green Community-Fuller Brook Estates-Mountains-Lobsters,Cranberries, Cypress woodmakers, marianas, cities next to water, lighthouses, trolley cars, lakes etc etc
I believe its Michigan
Mississippi-thought was gulf shores at first in Alabama, but think is at or near the mouth where the Mississippi River runs into the ociean along the Gulf Coast
I think it will be either Maine or Missouri
Hi bloggers, Danny here, I want so much for the 2010 greenhome to be built here in MICHIGAN ,I’am takeing a cue from other blogs and twisting the facts of the pictures to suit my needs. 1. North peir lighthouse Ludington,MICHIGAN 2.the mountains could be a symbol for the Porcupine mountains in the U.P. 3.the pic of the sailboats in a marina could be one of the many marinas here in Algonac where I live .4. cherries are one of MICHIGAN’S biggest crops 5.The pic of the submerged trees could be a picture of my backyard after all the flooding we have been getting lately 6. the forrested shoreline could be the north shore of the U.P. on Lake Superior. 7. lobsters could be the symbol for the Muir seafood restaurant in Detroit. And lastly, the arch, ……..I GOT IT ! ……..Mcdonalds! we have golden archs all over the place here in MICHIGAN ! Last nite on the givaway,I caught a flash pic of the Detroit skyline and GM building at the end. I know this sounds far fetched, but it seems compatable with Mary’s course and logic in giving so called clues. Ed,Renee, Kat and Marie, good to see you still in print. Have fun Best wishes Danny
Too funny Danny finally a blog made me laugh Golden Arches-McDonald’s-one picture solved..*smile*
I’m gonna go with Massachusetts!
Its Missouri because the big arch in front of the city. That is a big clue.
I think each photo represents a different M state. The lighthouse is definitely Ludington North Breakwater, Lake Michigan. The arch is definitely St. Louis, Missouri. The lobsters are Maine, and the cranberries are Massachusetts. The rolling meadows and mountains could be Montana. The Cypress or boats could be Mississippi or Minnesota.
I think cranberries require a colder climate, so I’ll pick Maine. The arch is too obviously Missouri so that’s a clue to something other than the state.
With the lobster and cranberries I think it has to be Cape Cod, but the St Louis arch is throwing me off.
St LOuie, Missouri
HGTV gave us picture clues that seem to be from 8 different “M” states, all of them look like a beautiful place. But if it gets built in a cold winter state all of us “snowbirds” could use HGTV’s tips on building an efficient, green house that keeps us warm when its below zero outside and doesn’t empty our wallets. I wish the solar panels & wind generaters weren’t so expensive.
It’s definitly Missouri!!!!!!!!!!
i think its St. Louise Missiouri
#1.st.louis, mo. #2.emeral bay ,lake tahoe,ca. #3.Maine, loberster or lake tahoe, ca. if crawdads. #4.Maine, or any east coast. #5.maryland, or oregon. #6.florida #7.sierra mt.ca. #8.lake tahoe,ca. well I come up with Lake Tahoe, but would also be happy with Maine.
New Mexico!
My guess is Maine!!!
I BELIEVE IT WILL BE IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
MICHIGAN<MICHIGAN<MICHIGAN marinas,mountains(UP)cherries,lighthouses,Beaches….Say YES to Michigan!!!!!!!!
Okay folks, hold on to your hats—here’s the definitive answer everyone is searching for (I’m betting the farm on it, Kat!):
IT’s: MissouriMinnesotaMaineMichigan
MassachusettsMontanaMaryland. Who would have guessed?
What do you think, Marie?
Good to see friendly regulars like HGTVMAN, Renee loves Green, and Ed in Oregon taking a stab at “M” as in MARY’s first 2010 GH clue as well.
Sit down, buckle in, and fire up your search engines, folks, ’cause MARY’s gonna be taking us for another wild ride with those wily clues. Hit us with your best shots, MARY…we’re a lean, keen and mighty mean bunch of websurfers with a determined 24/7 search mentality. At the very least, our comments, whether fact or fiction, will certainly be entertaining!
I know where it is! Been there! Great place!ST.Louis,Missouri!!!!
Could it be a state that doesn’t have a lot of those things, lakes, cranberries, light houses, A McDonald Arch? I go for Montana.
What states do they grow cranberries in?
Cranberries grow in Montana (as well as Oregon and Washington State)not just in New England…One of the pix is from Glacial Nat Park I believe…..
Maine
Montana would be my guess. Just a guess.
I think the location may be New Mexico. if you check google there is a place called Santa Fa,Mexico in New Mexico known for its lighthouses, lobsters, etc.
This is my guess-
http://www.whittenproperties.com/maine-green-homes/
Remember, they don’t say it a state, they say its a location with the letter “M”
This is my guess Kelsey Brook Development by Freeport and Portland Maine.
http://www.whittenproperties.com/maine-green-homes/
This is my guess, Kelsey Brook, Greenhome Development by Freeport and Portland Maine. Whitten Properties.
Michigaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!
Great private investigative work, KAT. One of us will figure this out eventually. Only issue is that on the traditionms website it states at the bottom:
“This project is not affiliated with any other ‘Tradition’ development located outside Mississippi and is not affiliated with Core Communities, LLC.”
So are you still taking bets
Missouri
Did anyone see palm trees in the clip last night? I am 99% sure I some a palm tree then I played it back slow…?
oops. sorry for the late post, I had started responding hours ago but didn’t hit send…now I see that Renee loves green also pointed out that traditionsms was not affliated with Core communities…
I’m with Kat and think Mississippi is a possibility
St,Louise Missouri
Yep Coop…oops I mean Show Me!! It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride over all those M’s!! I can hardly wait for the next ambiguous clue!! You know me by now, so I’m still hoping for a New England home, so I would like to tweak the clues towards Massachusetts!!
However, I’ve read about Green Projects in Detroit, Michigan!! There are many companies there committed to a green Michigan! They are embracing new technologies and new thinking about the environment.
Also, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the new Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) facility opened its doors in October 2007, as the first LEED-Certified art museum in the world. Quoting: “Under LEED NC the GRAM earned a remarkable Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The $75 million, 125,000 square foot structure was designed by wHY Architecture and built by Rockford Construction. Noteworthy green features of the GRAM include: Storm water from the roof is collected in cisterns for re-use in restrooms, the reflecting pool, and on-site irrigation, reducing demand for treated city water by 20%.
The GRAM uses passive air conditioning via vapor misting. The building’s ventilation system continuously monitors carbon dioxide levels and adjusts air flow as needed.
20 percent of the construction materials came from local sources and more than 10 percent of materials (including building insulation and carpeting) have recycled content.”
Sounds like a nice place to continue Greaming!!!
Looking at the pictures I would guess Missouri or Maine.
Those cranberries…. I am thinking Capecod, Massachusetts
by the pictures, that’s maine for sure!
i think it would be in Montana. :> the snow made me think that
or maybe Maine or any other state that starts with “M”.
Where ever the new location is going to be ….it sure looks BEAUTIFUL ! I am going to guess Maine
st.louis missouri
Great idea – mathew peter! And whatever is cash is left over can be divided up amongst the winners and they can take all the taxes out of it – so the the financial burden that comes along with winning non-cash items is diminished…
The main page on HGTV shows a beach. They say think of M. I think with the 8 others here that they are trowing you a curve. I say Maui, HI.
Missouri
New Mexico, it’s the M clue and not the pictures.
My hunch is that it’s somewhere near the Mississippi river! Yeap, that’s a lot of territory, but that’s what the clues seem to indicate!
Well if it is Mississippi, that would be right up my alley seeing as I live in Mississippi. Does anyone know when we shall be able to start entering for this giveaway and the Dream home giveaway? I’m still pretty new to this blog and find it confusing sometimes. There is just so much to look at on this great site.
I’m guessing either Maine (seacoast and lobster), or Massachusetts (seacoast and cranberries). Either one would be perfect!
I think the same a this about Mississippi,
but I would love it to be Michigian and I would love to be the winner too. hehe
I’m feeling MUCH better to discover I’m not the only one getting a bit nutty trying to solve the mystery of the NEXT GH.
Randy, after viewing the video behind Carter as he spoke of GH 2010, I was thinking the Pacific Northwest, too. Maybe Carter made a little error and read the M; and it was truly a W. There are 2 arcs in the Pacific Science Center, Naval base, Lighthouses, Lobsters, Cranberries; AND, this area is considered a type of “rain forest” (a stretch to connect the swamp photo). Isn’t Seattle known to be a very GREEN area?
Someone else figured out the Bus is a Metro Rapid line. That was NOT an easy thing to do. Maryland has a Metro Rapid system. Then, there’s “Grand Rapids’ Metro”, a new clue pointing to Michigan.
To the HGTV team that is trying to cause some sleuthers to get even nuttier trying to figure this out, you’re done a FINE job.
Waiting for more clues.
Sorry, I’ve been missing you guys for the last couple of days. Phew…I think I finally caught up on all of the activity that’s been going on here! Very exciting…Yesterday I was in Maryland dropping my teenager off to camp…hmmm…could it be Maryland?
Okay, so onto some research…how about Branson, Missouri? A recent article in Where to Retire magazine voted StoneBridge one of “America’s Best Master Planned Communities.” Guess what else was on the list? You got it! Tradition, Florida! A coincidence? Maybe…but I thought I would throw it out there to all of my blogging friends to see what y’all think!
Hope all is well…missed you guys!
Living the Dream!
CAPE COD !!!!!
Somewhere in Missouri..those arcs should be in St. Louis….I’ve seen them before….
This is so exciting to see the upcoming clues…I just wonder though, how many arcs are there? I’ll have to keep into my detective work….till then
It’s probably Maine. For sure it will be the East Coast – HGTV seems to love the East Coast. I actually hope it’s somewhere else in the country for a change. I think the pics just point to all different States that start with “M”, not all pics to one state. The MidWest – Missouri or Michigan would be nice for a change. Minnesota (and also Montana) is probably too cold for their timeframe.
Do any of you know when they will give us another clue? It sure would help because I think everyone has thought of all possiblities with these pictures, fun it is to see how other minds work but time for another clue that is for sure
Hey all – I found the details in this article especially interesting about the Green Home winners experience.
“They contacted me by phone June 16,” Kari said, “and they told me I was one of 50 people who might win the home. They said they had to ask some questions to determine our eligibility. They told me they were going to ambush the winner between Sunday and Tuesday, and that was the last I heard from them until I saw people in the yard, and then I just knew it was us.”
She said she did get somewhat suspicious after the phone call because she didn’t remember anything in the rules about narrowing it down to 50 people. But she said she also couldn’t believe they’d won, so she just figured she’d wait and see.
“I told them later I bought that story hook, line and sinker,” she said. “I just couldn’t imagine we were the winners.”
Emily Yarborough, spokeswoman for HGTV, said their team calls ahead of time to find out the winner’s schedule so they can be sure they’ll find them at home.
The HGTV announcement crew sneaked silently into the front yard and knocked on the Coffey’s front door, but no one answered.
“Our neighbors were sitting on the front porch enjoying the cool night air, and they called to the HGTV people, ‘They’re home, they’re in bed, keep knocking,’ ” Kari Coffey said.
Kari Coffey works as a lab assistant in the Saginaw health department, while her husband is an independent distributor for Lance and Snyder snack products. They have a 3-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Kari Coffey said she found the competition when she was surfing the Internet one night. Several years ago she’d entered the HGTV Dream Home contest, so on the spur of the moment, she decided to enter the Green Home drawing.
“I didn’t look at the pictures of the house, I didn’t read about it, and I didn’t even know where it was,” she said.
“I didn’t take it seriously until they called from HGTV and said I was one of 50 that could win. Then I started researching and learned everything I could about it.”
The Coffeys won’t see the home until July 16, when they will meet with people from HGTV at Tradition. In the meantime, they are consulting a tax counselor and considering their options.
The other common trait, it that they are all summer photos…leads you to think fun in the sun.
JeanieB – Thanks for that article! I found another one with some details that I posted on the Green Home Winner blog which was also very interesting!
Nice job HGTV!
Living the Dream!
Welcome back Lynn Coggin. Have you seen last night’s HGTV special yet? Your name appears (along with Kat’s) when they show a shot of the blogs on the HGTV site…. it’s about 3 minutes into the show.
Cheers
Missouri!
Diana…Maine has cranberry bogs too
We need more clues please, out with the old in with the new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to worry, Marie Miller, sometimes even I can’t tell the difference between me and Coop! Amazing how we think so much alike…although Coop can be a little bossy sometimes—always trying to get the keyboard away from me…or at the very least reading over my shoulder and making suggestions. (As if I’m not his intellectual equal!)
I LOVED your comment, by the way, about the “next ambiguous clue”!!! How funny, and yet, amazingly, so many bloggers already seem to know the location. Where did we go wrong, Marie? As proud members of the Bloggers Union, I think we’d better put on our thinking caps and get to the hard work that lies ahead of us under MARY’s devious direction.
Thanks for the insight into the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan. LEED Gold Certification for a project of that size is a remarkable achievement.
Not hazarding any guesses at this early stage, but as far as my two personal favorites, I like Massachusetts and Maryland…partly because I know them better than the other contenders. Still, each one of those eight states has plenty of scenic beauty to recommend them for Green Home honors.
So now, once again, we’ll wait impatiently in the wings until, in dramatic gameshow fashion and without a moment’s forewarning, our Senior Editor MARY will put on her announcer’s hat and boldly proclaim: “AND, the next clue IS….”
This is my guess: Kelsey Brook, Greenhome Development from Whitten Properties located in Freeport Maine.
i think they are trying to through us off with the letter m. i think it is okla.
I think the new Green Home will be in Washington ot Oregon.
Definitely, Missouri! , the BIG arch gave it away.
Are we going back to the “Googling Games” again? That’s Fine—- that was a lot of fun!!!
This is my Guess:
1. Either St.Louis Missouri (The Pic of the Arch)—- and this is throwing me—-
2. But I’m Leaning More Towards MASSACHUSETTS!!!!!
a. Maine Lobster—- MASSACHUSETTS or MAINE
b. Cranberries—- grown in Rhode Island, but my favorite beverage, which I drink everyday, is Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice—it is bottled in MASSACHUSETTS
c. when I saw the special HGTV show last night— my first gut guess was MASSACHUSETTS. There are parts of Mass, where you can start seeing the mountains in New Hampshire. That city looked like BOSTON!
YEAH YEAH YEAH—– I think that I could become a Bostonian
gotta go, and pak my cah— and take a showaa– and get ready for dinnah
Talk later—–
Diana
Boy that other blog about the winners is so negative!!! I couldn’t believe some of the posts. The clue above doesn’t say the location starts with M…it’s says keep the letter M in mind when looking at the photos.
I think I will wait a bit before going into my Maine stuff….I did enough of that during the Dream Home 2010…..but I am excited to be back in the clue guessing game!!
Lynne Coggin you famous woman you! Still doing my ancestry….and still popping in now and then.
BTW Diana: you can see Mount Washington from places in Maine…and we have other mountains as well:)
Looks like my post from 2 hours ago is still waiting moderation. I guess “Mean Mary” doesn’t like her nickname. Trust me Mary I enjoy your sadism>
There are 8 states that start with M. Looks like the pictures are of each of the M states. I hope you pick Montana, the big sky state.
Someone named “Hope on” beat me to my guess,I found this on google:
“New Green community of 15 homes in Freeport Maine. $400,000 and up.certified LEEDS home.
KELSEY BROOK HOMES– 25 min. from Portland Maine. By “Hope on”
We both found the same thing, I just didn’t read everyone’s posts, there was way to many
coastal area of washington. if m is the first letter of the city then possibily Moclips
No doubt about it… It’s MAINE. Martha’s Vineyard would be cool though.
I’m going with Homeboy on this one. All I know is that Sedona didn’t win.
Every single pic fits Maine, even the Gateway Arch. There are a lot of businesses and places in Southeastern Maine with Gateway in the name. Check out Kelsey Brook Green Home Development in Freeport Maine.
Maine
St.Louis,Missouri
Cathy/Maine(iac);) Love your new name! LOL!!!!!! I’m famous, I’m famous! Too fun HGTV!
Anyway, Maine sounds good to me…love it there! I would share the lobsters with everyone
Living the Dream!
All those M’s have me confused. It should have been Arkansas.lol
Hi bloggers,Danny here, Like the campain slogan says “Say yes to MICHIGAN” LOL. Danny
Maine or on Camino Island in Washington State
Marie – the picture of Lake Providence, LA…the nearest city is Monroe.
IT IS ST.LOUIS MISSOURI
Missouri, Montana, Michigan, I love the fact that they may be mountains, Love that
it’s Maine
It is definately St Louis, MO
Lakeville-Middleboro, Massachusetts
All but the Arch say Maine or Mass…
Hi Kat, I will have family coming in through out the month of July…. But, the event sounds very interesting, so I will do my research on it and let you know!!! Thank you again!! You always give me such wonderful information!!! I bet that you have done a lot of Event Planning!! Right??? I am working with my Husband this Summer in his Production Company, which I have to use my Event Planning skills to get the locations, props, ect. needed for each production!! I am always wondering what jobs you have done in the past…through your travels, etc..!! You have so much knowledge and you collect more daily!! I love being on the receiving end…so Thank you again..!! We will have to meet soon!! Marie, great research on the GRAM!!! I told you that you could write a book….you are awesome in the research department, quote department, poem department, friendly department and so on!! Thanks for sharing!! Show Me, tell Coop to relax, that you’ve got it and that you are a very interesting, witty person….SO is Coop,,, just saying!! Just don’t let Coop get a mouse…you may be fighting over control of the cursor!!! My Husband was playing with mouse the other night while I was on the laptop and I thought that my cursor was cursed!! LOL!! I can’t wait to see where the Green Home 2010 is going to be….and will enjoy the process again!! Jeanie, Thank you for sharing the article…I enjoyed it along with the one the Lynn posted…thank you Lynn, again!!! A hello out to Ed and Matthew!!! Love life by living green!!
Let’s hope it is not Missouri. As an ex-Missourian, we returned to California after 30+ days of sub freezing, over a foot of packed ice/snow on the ground, car batteries freezing. Enough already!
Also Gail, are we going to get a blog/vlog from you soon?? We would love to hear from you!!! Are you going to be at the Green Home on July 18th, when the Coffeys receive their keys!!!??? What are you going to do now….or after the new Super Fan is handed the reign??
Hey Show Me! While I’m not sure where the DH2010 may evolve through Jack, I’m thinking the next Gream Home could support my Breezy Coastal Lighthouse House Plan!! Of course, it will take some interactive design and technology changes to bring it up to “Gream” standards, but one way or the other, I’m Dreamin’ up some Big stuff!!! Couldn’t you see the ‘2006 Street of Dreams’ taking its place as the ‘2009 Gream Home?’ Maybe it could be build on the Coast of Maine? How about…..the Maine village of Bowdoinham. “Rich in history, town records indicate settlers were drawn to the Cathance River and Merrymeeting Bay in the early 1600’s. Over the years the current town limits served as a trading area, shipbuilding center and industrial hub. Today, Bowdoinham boasts a charming town landing, marina and waterfront park. Providing easy access to the Cathance River and Merrymeeting Bay, Bowdoinham is a popular launching point for kayakers, boaters and sportsman!”
Doesn’t that sound inviting?
Ahhhh — but the arch in the Gateway to the West Arch in St. Louis, MO. on the Mississippi river in St. Louis.
Michigan! There is a big movement to Salinate Lake Michigan to grow lobsters as a resource for fresh lobster to the Chicago and Mid West. Michigan has several large cranberry farms…Go Google to see if I am correct.
I would have to say Maine. I think you slipped in a few extra pics to throw us off, but I really think the East Coast is it. Lobster, cranberries, yachts are screaming MAINE.
The pictures represent a picture from each of the 8 states that begin with M.
Arch=MO, Lake=MN, Cranberries=MD,
Lighthouse=MA, Mountains=MT, Sailboats=MI,
Cyrpress=MS, Lobster=ME.
I’m rooting for Michigan, but MN would be great too.
I read in blogs: ““They contacted me by phone June 16,” Kari said, “and they told me I was one of 50 people who might win the home. They said they had to ask some questions to determine our eligibility. They told me they were going to ambush the winner between Sunday and Tuesday, and that was the last I heard from them until I saw people in the yard, and then I just knew it was us.”
But what I remember the deadline was June 19th. What happened to people who posted, mailed after 16th? They were not taking into consideration?
Why do they pick 50 – is it like runner uppers? Just curious.
…and what/who/why is considered for being eligible? Anyone knows?
St Louis MO
630 foot Gateway Arch of St. Louis,MO
I think it is in Massachusetts because isn’t that where they have the cranberry bob’s? Would love to have it be there or Maine
lol I got caught up in the “The Winner of HGTV Green Home Nasty blog vortex… But no more. It is like a peaceful oasis over here…
Overlooking the great Mississippi River, near St. Luis MO. That would be one nice location!! And not as cold as Maine in the winter!
St. Louis, Missouri
Alamar,,,,this blog is only to figure out the new location… no stress over the selection process!! Go the “the winner of the HGTV Green Home” for those debates!! BTW, there is not 50 people chosen as finalists, they only said that to the winner to make sure that they were home!! I believe that the selection process was completed on the 17th… You need to read the rules again…as you are off on the dates. Good Luck!! Welcome over GlennNYC… and yes, I agree it is much calmer here!!! And friendly, and fun, and informative… Love life by living green!!
It’s MICHIGAN, as that state produces more cranberries than any other state and it also has more lighthouses than any other state. TAKE IT TO THE BANK!!!
I would say Maine. Strange as it may seem as a child I use to I think that is where I would live when I grew-up. Bangor, Main!
My guess St. Louis MO I know that`s the famous Gateway Arch!
When is the new location going to be announced. Does anybody know?
Massachussets or Maine
Roger: I like that you recognize that Michigan has sooooo many lighthouses…that puts me in heaven…love, love lighthouses!!
To all my blogging buddies: I will apologize in advance here for the length of the poem I’m going to post, but it is so worth reading!! Please ENJOY!!
“The Lighthouse”
“The rocky ledge runs far into the sea,
And on its outer point, some miles away,
The Lighthouse lifts its massive masonry,
A pillar of fire by night, of cloud by day.
Even at this distance I can see the tides,
Upheaving, break unheard along its base,
A speechless wrath, that rises and subsides
In the white lip and tremor of the face.
And as the evening darkens, lo! how bright,
Through the deep purple of the twilight air,
Beams forth the sudden radiance of its light
With strange, unearthly splendor in the glare!
Not one alone; from each projecting cape
And perilous reef along the ocean’s verge,
Starts into life a dim, gigantic shape,
Holding its lantern o’er the restless surge.
Like the great giant Christopher it stands
Upon the brink of the tempestuous wave,
Wading far out among the rocks and sands,
The night-o’ertaken mariner to save.
And the great ships sail outward and return,
Bending and bowing o’er the billowy swells,
And ever joyful, as they see it burn,
They wave their silent welcomes and farewells.
They come forth from the darkness, and their sails
Gleam for a moment only in the blaze,
And eager faces, as the light unveils,
Gaze at the tower, and vanish while they gaze.
The mariner remembers when a child,
On his first voyage, he saw it fade and sink;
And when, returning from adventures wild,
He saw it rise again o’er ocean’s brink.
Steadfast, serene, immovable, the same
Year after year, through all the silent night
Burns on forevermore that quenchless flame,
Shines on that inextinguishable light!
It sees the ocean to its bosom clasp
The rocks and sea-sand with the kiss of peace;
It sees the wild winds lift it in their grasp,
And hold it up, and shake it like a fleece.
The startled waves leap over it; the storm
Smites it with all the scourges of the rain,
And steadily against its solid form
Press the great shoulders of the hurricane.
The sea-bird wheeling round it, with the din
Of wings and winds and solitary cries,
Blinded and maddened by the light within,
Dashes himself against the glare, and dies.
A new Prometheus, chained upon the rock,
Still grasping in his hand the fire of Jove,
It does not hear the cry, nor heed the shock,
But hails the mariner with words of love.
“Sail on!” it says, “sail on, ye stately ships!
And with your floating bridge the ocean span;
Be mine to guard this light from all eclipse,
Be yours to bring man nearer unto man!”
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
New Mexico!
Marie-To all my blogging buddies: I will apologize in advance here for the length of the poem I’m going to post, but it is so worth reading!!
Marie never ever apologize for a length of a nice thought, after reading so many negative things today.. THANK YOU for a wonderful poem..where is Renee Loves Green and Kat..SOS Bloggers..these other comments from people I have never seen before are depressing me-I truly wish their comments would go into waiting for moderation-where are your famous quotes and sayings from the most wonderful bloggers on the internet..Our own HGTV bloggers?
Looking at the images, I would say Missouri?
Missouri
It’s Saint Louis Missouri look at this pic. just copy and paste this wed page.
http://architecture.about.com/od/greatbuildings/ig/Monuments-and-Memorials/Saint-Louis-Gateway-Arch.htm
Mississippi is the place
Hey Jeberly, Maui would be exciting, I hope you are right.
St. Louis, Missouri
Hi HGTV, it doesn’t really matter where this next green home is built… if I should win, I will pick up and MOVE, or stay if it is in Mississippi!!! I am so ready to win!! I appreciate you HGTV for letting us dream, have fun, imagine and just talk to each other. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO KARI, MIKE AND THEIR LITTLE GIRL!!!! HAPPY HAPPY LIFE TO YOU ALL!! ENJOY YOUR MIRACLE! We all love you!!!!
Beverly J. Strickland
Long Beach, Mississippi
Renee,
I was just curious, not stressed or so.
It is OK, and I only responded to blogger here
I think Maryland
It is Maine home to Acadia National park~Put in and paddle out to the archipelago called the Cranberry Islands. Bear Island has a cliff-top lighthouse, and Sutton Island is home to a 40-foot sea-arch carved out by the surf. After a long day in the cockpit, head for Beal’s Lobster Pier next to the Coast Guard Station in Southwest Harbor. …
I won’t start no trouble if nobody else does, that sounds fair to me
i think it is Maine
Hey to all the regular bloggers – who may be avoiding “The Winner of HGTV Green Home” blog space…just wanted to let you know that the winner, Karin Coffrey, has just posted there. Even after reading all those negative comments, she has offered to share here experiences with us.
So go over and welcome her…
Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Mo….
Congratulations to the winner of the green home….Best Wishes from R.I.
Maine:
Did a mini vacation in Portland.
Village by the Sea,indoor,outdoor pools.
Great place, the air is so sweet smelling. It’s just God’s Country!!!
Maine or Missouri =D
Missouri, of course…
I THINK IT IS MISSOUI BECAUSE THE ARCHES IT IS SO AWSOME AND COOL I CANT WAIT TO SEE ITTTT MY DAD WORK AND HE WENT TO MISSOUI AND HE RECONIZE THE ARCHES AND HE COULD TELL IT WAS MISSOUI AND THE CRANBERRIES AND CRABS AND THE BOATS AND THE ARCES I THINK IT IS AWSOME AND SOO COOOL YOU SHOULD SE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AND THE PICTURES ARE SO FAMLLER YOU CAN LOOK IT UP THATS WHAT I DID AND I FIGURE IT UP . THATS WHY I WNTED TO COMMENT SO PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW. OKKK.
St.Louis,Missouri, Boston,MA, or Maine
I think that it is Missuri, Because of the arch and I also googled it so…. I hope its Missuri!! PeaCeOuT!!
Maine
MY guess would be Maine or Maryland.
I believe its Michigan, because Mississippi River comes from up north, it has lakes, lighthouses, cranberries grow there, and mountains look like they are across to Canada.
I think HGTV followed me to Maryland yesterday when my husband and I drove my teenager to camp…the Eastern Shore…and saw how beautiful it was and decided…”Wow! This would be a beautiful spot for the next Green Home!” Hahahaha! Yeah, I’m pretty sure that is how it happened because it was earlier in the day before they posted the ‘M’ state! LOL!!!!!!
Living the Dream!
All 8 states starting with “M” are represented in the photos. In picture order left to right: Missouri, Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Maryland. So no telling where it will be.
Lynn,
you are funny!!!
I feel strong for Missouri, but I also think it could be Maryland, or another M state.
I am very curious to find out about what the next clue it will be.
1. Missouri
2. Michigan
3. Maryland
4. Mississippi
5. Massachusetts
6. Minnesota
7. Montana
8. Maine
unless you are throwing us a curve by including those arches, I’d guess Missouri is next for the green home. Since I saw arches, knew it wasn’t McDonald’s!
Hi Mary,
If the next green home location is Maryland, I’ll be able to give bloggers first-hand reports!
I REALLY hpoe it’s Maine!!!
I ment:hope
At least we can blog about it here. My hub came home and asked, “Well, have you figured it out yet?” Then, he chuckles. I think he gets a great kick out of this!
In the back of my head, I hear, ‘just you wait, Henry Higgins, just you wait!” LOL
Then, After ONLY viewing the pics, his guess is Maine.
I’ve been starting and pausing the recorded video to get close shots of the bus line, the phone # on the apartment buildings, the view of the snow capped ?Mountain?….etc. I view the skylines of MANY of the possible communities.
Thank you for keeping my mind very busy today! And….if it’s Maine, I’m not partial to crow. LOL
After checking the credits of the photographers who took the pics above (they labled their pics on flicker). I have determined the upper rt pic is a lake from upper Minnesota. The lighthouse is from Michigan. The red fruit is cranberries. The swamp is likely from Mississippi. The sail boats are likely from Maryland. The lower left pic of snow capped mountains are from Montana. You already know where the arches are from, and the lobster, is in fact lobster. So that tells us nothing.
I am still sticking with my guess of Freeport Maine, in a new development called Kelsey Brook. Maine has all the things in the pics above and the development is surrounded by wetlands, It also provides all the things that Jack Thomasson likes in a DH or GH development. The arch is likely referring to Gateway, which is a popular name of places and businesses in the Portland/Freeport area, somewhere it is mentioned that Freeport is a gateway to the outdoors. Close to the developmnet is a popular house called the cranberry house.
its missouri. very beautiful. but the air is so clean. cant wait to see the new home….!!!!!!!!!!
That little something that makes me go hmm… suddenly there it was in black & white… a masthead

I live in Michigan and there are no mountains like that in Michigan or lobsters lol, maybe some cray fish. But my guess?
I think it will be in Missouri. Is that not the St. Louis Arch?
Okay, Lessie, if the 2010 Green Home is in Maryland, you’re ON as far as I’m concerned for reporting back to us here on the blog. Nothing like an “insider” (or two) to dig up all those great details we might otherwise miss.
And, Lynn Coggin, you’re right about the Eastern Shore of Maryland being a winning spot for the next Green Home. Why not?
Now, back to reality—as we await MARY’s next move, until which time we still have eight live contenders for Green Home honors.
Cindy (and anyone else interested): Here’s something for getting away from all the debbie downers…
Earth teach me stillness
as the grasses are stilled with light.
Earth teach me suffering
as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility
as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring
as the mother who secures her young.
Earth teach me courage
as the tree which stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation
as the ant which crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom
as the eagle which soars in the sky.
Earth teach me resignation
as the leaves which die in fall.
Earth teach me regeneration
as the seed which rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself
as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness
as dry fields weep with rain.

From the clues given at the end of the Green Home Giveaway, the next green home will be built in Montana. The pictures at the top of this blog are a ruse to throw everyone off.
Maryland… but wherever it is im sure that it will be beautiful. What a blessing this station has been to so many families. Keep doing your thing HGTV!
it’s in Missouri or Maine…
Maine or Maryland, the two places that are within driving distance for our family vacations.
I wish it would be in New Smyrna Beach, Fl.
or Bethany Beach, DE. I would LOVE to live in either of these two towns but can’t afford to buy there YET!
Delores in Danielsville, Pa.
DIANE B= It’s funny that you said, MONTANA. When I watched the HGTV Special, I first thought- BOSTON, but my Dad thought- Montana.
Maine Lobster? Mountains? Ocean? Cranberries? I’m still HOPING for MASSACHUSETTS.
Where is CATHY LEMAR???????
And the pic of the St.Louis, MISSOURI Arch?
I KNOW MARY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THESE PICTURES—– LOL LOL LOL LOL
Diana
zz: Thank you for the beautiful reminder of what our earth means to us!!
Cindy: I am happy that you enjoyed the poem!
Renee loves Green: Thank goodness someone can explain the process of selecting the winner! Thank you!!
Okay Mary: I’m going to stick my neck out one more time with a guess…I’m thinking that it is going to be a big coincidence that Kari Coffey is from Saginaw, Michigan, and the next Gream Home will be built in Michigan!! Maybe that’s been the big clue all along?
MGTOTD: Charcoal paste can be made and used to draw out toxins from bites and stings. You can also buy activated charcoal capsules, which you can open and use with a few drops of water on the sting or bite. Leave for 30 minutes and then wash off the paste.
GlenNYC, Thanks for the tip! I’m rushing right over there!
And as for the location for the next GH? I think everyone’s guess is just as good as any others at this point. What we need now is another clue!!!
Marie, I forgot to tell you… that you asked a great question of Kari!! They are so negative over at the winner’s blog and I think that HGTV will make a great executive decision to stop them from continuing!!! Now, on to finding where the GH2010 is going to be located…. I still think that it is too early to really know… They are toying with us, again!! Enjoy the ride!!! Love life by living green!!
Absolutely in St. Louis Missouri. Without a doubt!
Ok, was very busy yesterday, came home last night and no internet so I’ll read your blogs more in a few minutes.
There is a new blog with new clues, but no posts. I’ve put in 3 and they are all in moderation. First one had and symbols so reposted by typing and, no websites, nothing. Third one just asked what is up with the moderation? That post is in moderation?
Skimmed that the other blog topic was negative so will our new posts all take too long for us to continue?
Hope not, have enjoyed our conversations. Ending this now to see if it goes thru, if yes, I’ll post again soon..
Good morning everyone! Okay, so the first Green Home was won by Marsha FROM Florida…and then they built the second Green Home IN FLorida…so…logic can tell us that the second Green Home was won by Kari FROM Michigan…so…there you have it…the third Green Home MUST be IN Michigan! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Living the Dream!
Help, none of my posts are going thru. Why am I sent to the corner?
All pictures are beautiful
Ok, let’s see if I can post now. I’ve changed to another computer, new name and email. I tried posting 4 times today and not one went thru..at first I thought maybe a glitch with new blog topic of second clue, but even in theis one I didn’t make it.
Any clues Renee, marie, Show Me? I know it’s not a boycott of Florida since you’re getting thru Renee. Was I too negative in earlier blogs of all the rain here while I wanted to go to the beach?
Maybe because I didn’t put in a quote?
Hope I get thru now.
Maine
Are all comments being slow to show up?
I LIVE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE MAINE. THE MOUNTAINS,THE LIGHTHOUSE, THE LOBSTER, ITS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. GOTTA LOVE NEW ENGLAND!!
Looks like a total lock down on the blogs this morning
Hello everyone just finished looking at all of the comments here. I think that the person named Sara has the best explaination of the clues so far.
If you got mosquito insect bites, tab that place with Listerine and will be as if nothing bites you.
If you place Listerine over your skin where mosquito or insect bites you, it will be like nothing happen.
Like bite never happen. Listerine will kill poison bacteria from insect and leave your skin like before bite with no itching or mark. In addition, the old insect marks on your body will clear if you apply Listerine over several times.
Missouri!! definately!! It’s the St. Louis arch!! but I don’t know what the lighthouse is from…
There’s no other place in the united states that has an arch so it HAS to be Missouri!!! St louis Missouri!!
RENEE LOVES GREEN= Maybe HGTV can do something with those “negative” blogs— I didn’t even see them—- have to catch up on the blogs. But—- really nasty. Jeolousy is Nasty, and really, what’s the point?
This is just a game, like winning a lottery– c’mon, get real!
I always say, “what comes around, goes around”—- and it’s not good to “channel negative thinking”—- and “Mean- Ness always comes through”
MARIE MILLER= stay on the blogs— a new clue has just arrived.
Diana
kat I’m betting against you. it’s impossible to be anything but missouri
I think it’s Massachusetts First Subway 1897 Boston, Basketball was first played by James Naismith, Johnny Apple Seed came fron Mass. therefore the Apple orchard, I don’t know about the Mill sure it came from Mass.also. Then of course you have the forest, swamps cranberries, lobster, light houses, rolling hills, water, I don’t know about that arch looks like the one in St.Louis to me.
I believe the next dream home will be in Missouri as the Ohio river has the Cypress trees along it like in the one picture and I’m sure you could grow cranberries there also.
I am just hoping that it will be Maui. Don’t know how the arch fits in but everything else could be.
Lobster & Light house most definitely MAINE!
There is only 1 gateway Arch-in St.Louis,
Missouri. The cranberries,lobster,lighthouse
would indicate ME or MA but they do not have an ARCH!!Gotta be MO.
Missouri!!!
It’s MAINE!! Absolutely no doubt about it! I live on the Easr Coast and this is the New England state of Maine. First pic is a dead giveaway. As is the lobsters and lighthouse.
Maine or Massachusetts its got to be! With the cranberries and lighthouse. Can’t wait to see what they will design to fit that wonderful view!
MAINE! This is it so everyone can stop guessing. lol It’s definately MAINE
Renee,
yes it is game, play, toying with viewers, maybe they get some benefit from people going on site everyday
what kind of production you do with your husband? my husband is a DP….kind of coincidence….I did movie cartoons back in my country, and here animations, illustrations.
And I am big doer for organic food. I wish they would have in every school for children – like you used to do.
I am a little bit suspicious that it might not be a M state…but it does not matter if we know it now, we cannot change their decision anyway – i think
the Gateway Arch behind the old courthouse is a giveaway! It is in St. Louis Missouri
Renee,
thanks. I was off with the dates. Sorry to all. OOps :-/
I think it will be in Maine.
These clues are so vague my mind would get too tired trying to even make one educated guess as to where future house could be so not even going to try. There are so many beautiful locations around the US that I don’t really care where it is built just that maybe this time they will not build in a gated community–no one wants to pay large fees every month for the joy of living in your house, I know I won’t do it no matter what the fees pay for.
Check out Mary’s second clue posted today! She’s giving more details.
The stainless-steel Gateway Arch towers some 630 feet above Saint Louis—symbolizing the city’s legacy as the gateway to the American West.
It is missouri
i googled it.
Somewhere near El Paso, New Mexico.
They have posted the 2nd clue with 4 new pics.
I think it’s Mass.
Renee loves Green, to respond to your kind (and funny) post of the 29th; as far as the mouse, I don’t know if Coop and I would be fighting over control of the cursor, or cursing over control of the mouse! But AT LEAST ONE of the above.)
Diana, it looks as if you’ll get your wish about your state of preference. It’ll be very interesting to read the comments on the second clue thread when MARY finally opens up the “awaiting moderation” floodgates, and that crushing backlog of posts rushes forth!
I like a Green Home on the upper east coast. I think Maryland, Massachusetts, or Maine would be perfect!
People listen up!…They said “to keep the letter M in MIND.” All eight pics represent all 8 states that stat with the letter M!!!! Ill break it down: The gateway Arch-Missouri. The lobster-Maine is the largest lobster producing state in the nation. Craberries-Marylands state fruit is the cranberry! The mountains-defntly Montana! Top right picture-Minnesota! lighthouse-Massachusetts! The swampy trees-Mississippi! and the boats-Michigan! They are trying to trick us!! but you cantfool me!!
THE NEW LOCATION ACCORDING TO HGTV.IS NEW MEXICO,WHILE LOOKING DAILY AT THE HGTV GREEN HOME IN PORT ST LUCIE FLORIDA,I WENT TO SEE WHAT THE 2010 HOME WAS GOING TO BE,AND THEY SHOWED A BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF OPEN SPACE AND MOUNTAINS IN THE BACKGROUND.AND DESCRIBED AT AS ANOTHER GREEN HOME,HACEINDA STYLE.
that would be nice, and then to win, wouldn’t have to move far LOL.BEING A SINGLE MOM AND AFTER LOSING EVERYTHING! WE OWN TO TOXIC MOLD IN THE HOUSE MY SON AND I WERE RENTING FOR 15YRS,AND MY CAR DYING RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR,I PRAYED SOOO HARD TO WIN THE PORT ST LUCIE FLORIDA HOUSE,THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG BLESSING,A WAY TO START OVER ,AND HAVE FURNITURE AGAIN,AND HAVE TRANSPORTATION AGAIN,maybe we will be lucky enough to win THE NEW GREEN HOME WHEREVER IT MAY BE? and even though we really need to win a house, furniture and car,i still wish all of you good luck and many blessings BIG HUGS LISA
but…if i am mistaken???
the first picture i can tell you is of downtown st louis mo ,because i live in st louis mo
New Mexico-the Land of Enchantment!
The second clue, post a comment is not allowing comments to go through. Please check.
Missourri!!! i think the arch is in Misssourri u think… LOL
I think it is Michigan
Hi bloggers , Danny here, If we are talking saginaw ,I could see a small hobbie farm just outside of town.. the country out there is beautiful. Danny
Everyone there is another clue go to another blog-apples=basketball hoop old building and train
It’s Missouri.
Sorry looks like “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”
I can’t believe all the support for Michigan. Thank you,Marie Miller, and Danny, you are too funny. As much as I would love a Green Home here I wonder if HGTV is ready to tackle a Green Home in one of the northern states, with cold winters. That would be a real (but much admired) challenge! Mississippi came to mind Kat did great research, and I’m not taking her bet, but it could be anywhere in Mississippi (isn’t that a fun state to type)? It could also be Maryland. BUT if it is in Michigan, I would go a little north of Marie’s first guess, Ludington….to Manistee. Great lighthouses where Lake Michigan flows into the Manistee river. Next clue, Mary, and thanks HGTV for all the fun.
It’s going to be in Main with all that tasty lobster
CAPE COD MASS
CPAE COD MAS
MAINE, OR CAPE COD MASS
I would have to say Maine
massachusetts sure!
As a new Missouri resident I can say that the new home is definitely coming here! The arch is located in St. Louis, MO!
Lighthouses and Lobsters….cranberries? C’mon! It’s the coast of Maine!
wish it were in WASHINGTON state though! I would love to move there!!
My son felt the same way, but he’s 12yrs old and still learning how to be happy for someonelses good fortune. I am very happy for Kari & Mike, even though I LOVED that kitchen, I’m still very happy for them. GOD BLESS!!! I think the 2010 should be in NYC, but the pics look like Boston Mass.
Hi Mary – Is it “New Mexico” ??
Dee Rampino.
Hey there everyone…are you having the same problem as I…I can’t seem to leave a comment regarding the newest clue? Wassup? Have I missed something?
Come on people! It’s Missouri!!!! The monument was taken on the Missouri River Bridge. The the second picture is either the Missouri or Mississippi River. I’m going to try to go that spot this next weekend. Anyway!!! I’m excited that it’s practically in my backyard. I live in Kansas and finally a home in Mid-America!!! Awesome HGTV, the 2010 home will be awesome and I hope my family will win!!!!!! YEAH!
Well, I just left a comment without a hitch..can’t figure out what happened before…it’s that black hole I fall into sometimes!!
Has to be Maine, I mean look at the lobster!
Cape Cod, MA. – would be my first thought
I think its Marthas Vineyard I would love to win a green home there (anywhere really)
I’m keeping the “M” in mind, but I think every state in the U.S. has been mentioned. Every clue (photos) above are all beautiful and nature, green, love sea food, I love lite houses, cranberries are good for kidney’s, so, therefore I believe it’s going to be a wonderful place no matter where.
I THINK IT IS MISSOURI WHEN I SAW THE ARCH BUT THEN I SAW THE LIGHT HOUSE AND THINK IT IS MARYLAND…IT IS ONE OF THOSE IM SURE…CANT WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT CLUE…HOPE I WIN THIS TIME
So glad to see that this blog is full of regulars instead of all the negative individuals that took over the other blog.
We’ve got a really long wait for the next give away.
maybe they will build one in all states starting with an M. LOL. that would be great!
I don’t know about the other pictures but I know for a fact that that is the St. Louis Arch in Missouri. I don’t recall any lobster when I lived there nor the cranberries though.
Okay so there must be another Arch, the house is going to be in Michigan, the pic of the lighthouse is in Michigan, I looked it up.
It can be any place in the World, I Love your Dream Homes. I think the house is in Maryland.
it’s maryland
its maryland
Today … I change from Missouri to ‘Maine.’
Maine is my guess!
The most picturesque place in the U.S.–which has everything —mountains— great food—the ocean— and the most pritine enviroment in the United States– would be Maine… This place is the Greatest place to visit….I would move there in a Heartbeat if I could…..Just So Peaceful!!!!
Im thinking after seeing all the pictures of that river that starts in Minnesota and runs by the Tennessee mountains and ends down in New Orleans Louisiana would be the great Mississippi. So Im going to say it would be in the state of Mississippi.City, Bioxi
Maine
Green Home ‘10 is in Missouri, not Maine. That’s not a lobster, it’s a giant Mississippi River Crawfish, a delicacy throughout the Midwest. They were developed by Veridian Dynamics as part of their Jumbo Foods Initiative.
it is Mississippi
Wow! Martha’s Vineyard is just beautiful!!!
missouri
where else could it be besides missouri
Lisa, the Dream Home 2010 is in New Mexico!! They build a Dream Home and a Green Home each year.. The Dream Home is a Contemporary Pueblo!! With awesome views!! Marie, HGTV is placing all comments in “awaiting moderation” for now under the GH, because of all the negative bloggers that came on attacking after the airing of the winners of the GH2009!! SO, hang in there..I am sure they will be gone soon!! Yea!!!! Show Me, thought you would like that comment..my husband likes to play games!! As witty as the two of you are, I am sure it is the same around your home!! Luba, my husband is in Fashion Production. That is a big reason for our move. He works with various European clients, as he speaks Italian, French, German, Spanish and of course English! He makes it fun to travel with!! That leads me to another comment…Someone posted that the grass is not greener in Europe after I posted that I would think about moving there…. I enjoy the fresh markets (they don’t allow processed food from the US), all of the walking and biking, the education, the paid vacations/holidays and so much more that various European countries have to offer…. In the US, we are all about work that we forgot why we are working…for family….not to compete with the neighbors or to have more/better “stuff”. We forgot that we are here to live!! That was the only reason for my blog!! Well, and I love the Italian food!!!! Love life by living green!!
That is Michigan!!!
It is Saint Louis, Missouri. That’s the Saint louis arch, it is the gateway to the west.
It’s Saint Louis Missouri. That is is the St. Louis Arch, which is the gateway to the West.
It’s in the mountainsssssssssss.
I think it would be Missouri. Although it might be Maine too.
Alamar, no worries…just wanted to make sure that we kept this side “clean” of negativity!! And I am not saying that you were..but, it could have lead that way if others came on to comment!! So, let me welcome you and apologize for assuming, as you have cleared the air. I think that you will find that there are so many well informed bloggers on this site and that they can answer any question you have and they can pick you up when you are feeling down!! And everyone is getting placed in “Time Out” because of the “bad” blogging that was going on!! Now, we can all move forward!! And on to more important things….Like, where in the heck is the GH2010 going to be built….I am going crazy with these clues!! And to all who have posted such beautiful, positive words….Thank you…thank you…thank you….!!!! You are awesome and continue to amaze me!!! Sincerely!! Love life by living green!!!
My first thjought was Maine, escpecially when I saw the Lobsters, YUM!!! Where ever it is, it certainly is going to be beautiful! Can’t wait to find out! The arch is certainly St. Loius, I’ve traveled trhough there and it is not in Maine so I am confused! Can’t Wait for it to be Announced!!!
Maine
MONTANA
The arch looks like St. Louis, Missouri. But when I think of lobster as a clue I think Maine. I would love it to be Maine.
somewhere in missouri. maybe the ozarks
I would say michigan or maine
It is St. Louis Missouri. I have never been there but I have seen that picture and the picture of the light house
I think it is Maryland. It might not be but I hope becvause I love Maryland!
I think it is in Michigan, along the lakes. Cranberries marina’s, forests, mountains and Lighthouses also in New Jersey the only arches that I know of are at the burger joints…..but we are working with the “M”s here.
Good luck to everyone.
You guys/girls, all the pics are from different states, not from just one!
The lobster is Maine, the arch is Missouri, and the swampy areas are from Mississippi!
It’s either one of those states that begin with the letter M!Hope you didn’t took this hard on yourselfs.
mountainair, new mexico
It’s gotta be Missouri…NO ONE else has these arches!
santa fe, new mexico
You are trying to confuse us! The arch is most definitely Missouri, but the lobster, cranberries, harbor, mountains, bay and lighthouse are Maine or Massachusetts (Maine being MY guess!) Could it be Bar Harbor or Camden, Maine?
There are the eight states that start with the letter M. The bottom left is the Rocky Mountain Front in northern Montana near where I grew up, but there is no on living in Montana (the abbriviation for it it MT (empty)), so I hope it is there. Too much beauty not to have a great home there.
I wonder if it is Montana…all the pics look like somewhere different and I think Montana is beautiful and BIG!!!!
I really wish you would build a green home in the Spokane area. It would be a really great place to do so. We call our city the little city that can, near nature near perfect.
The pacific northwest is beautiful and a great place to live.
I have changed my mind, only in Minnesota can you find all the clues. So, my guess is Minnesota!
MAINE!!!! My favorite place!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!
MAINE!!!!!! My favorite place, Yeah!!!!!!!!!!
MAINE!!!! My favorite place, yeah!!!!!
M is for Mackinac.
M is for Mackinac. It is definately the Michigan coastline !!!!!
new mexico
I would guess Massachusetts or Maine. Looks like a combination of both. Wherever, I certainly would like to win it!
I live in Montana and have always thought that a green home on a ranch would be the perfect place in this wide open space for the next project!!! It’s a wonderful place to live!!!
Montana with acreage so you can have chickens for eggs, cattle for milk, beef, sheep for wool and a large vegetable garden.
For that true green. Total self sustaining.
Montana with acreage so you can have chickens for eggs, cattle for milk, beef, sheep for wool and a large vegetable garden.
For that true green. Total self substaining.
i think it should be in chino, california
Maine, Massachuttes or Michigan
WELL I AM GONNA GUESS, MONTANA, IN THE MOUNTAINS
Maine or Mississippi
I’M BET ON MAINE OR MISSOURI.
BUT I COULD BE WRONG, MASSACHUSETS IS ALSO A GREAT LOCATION. HUMMMMMM!!! MISSISSIPI, MAYBE? Being from NY,I wish it to be on a warm place.
It looks like Maine to me
cranberry island, maine?
Missouri
The top left picture is the St Louis MO skyline and the bottom left is Glacier National Park in Montana. I think it’s in the state of confusion.
Massachusetts, I really hope they incorperate geothermal into this house.
Missouri is it!
Omg I really hope it is going to be built in St. Louis, Missouri. I have visited that arch one summer when on vacation to meet my fiances mother. It is the gateway to the west. Truly a beautiful city/state.
Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana. Take your pick……
Maine… seafood shouldn’t come from Missouri =)
I think Bar Harbor,Maine. The Berkshires would have been nice, Nicer still, New Orleans, Better climate, charming and great things to do. Life is better in the big Eazzzzzzzzzzzy
Missouri
Please finally be in Minnesota!!!
I’m fairly certain it’s Maine.
It’s Gotta be in St. Louis,Mo
I think it is Mount Desert Island, Maine. There are stone arches there built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr between 1913 and 1940 especially for hikers, bikers, horseback riders and carriages. Most of the other images fit as well.
Missouri
It’s definately Maine …..Lobsters,fishing,lighthouses, cranberries and mountains…..
Maine!
I think it’s Maine.
Missouri is a bit far for me, but it looks like the St. Louis Arch.
I think Maryland will be the next green home location. Hopefully it’s a pretty clean state
MAINE… (opposite of Florida)
I think it will be either, Maine, Maryland, or Mass
This is in St. Louis, Missouri
This is in St. Louis Missouri
This is in St.Louis, Missouri
MAINE “Live as it should be” I’m ready!
MAINE = Live as it should be – I’m ready!
I believe it’s Maine!
It sure as heck ain’t Maui.
Definitely Maine!!!! Very nice!
I’m guessing Maine too…
LOOKS LIKE MAINE TO ME…..WISH IT WAS THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA!!!
Las Vages Navada or close to it
Maine, even though that looks like the St Louis, MO arch.
The first pic is the arch in St. Louis, MO. But the lobster does look like Maine. I would like Tenneessee.
How ’bout one of these times building in the West? Rocky Mountains? or New Mexico?
I’m thinking the very next one is in Maine, so maybe the one after can be out West.
It looks like the east coast. I am guessing Maine!
St Louis Misouri, Thnaks
Maine
I see the St. Louis arch…Missouri! Thank you Chevy Chase in the movie “Vacation” for the clue!! (the arch!)
i belive it might be New Mexico, well i hope so.
I was sure it was Maine until I saw the cranberries! Even better if it was Mass as it would be helpful to motivate all us folks in the Northeast to use more green in our daily living.
I saw the arch when we went to Missouri but maybe the picture is a view from somewhere across the river in Illinois so I think it will be somewhre near East St. Louis, Illinois.
Thati’s my guess and I’m stickin’ to it.
Well, the arch is in St. Louis, Missouri – but the lake picture looks like Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. The rest of the pictures look like Maine.
St. Louis – Looks likes McDonalds Arch!
The next home site will be wherever the winner wants it to be.
I think good ole Missouri because of the Arch in St. Louis, a snapshot that resembles the Ozarks and Carl Edwards car#99. Sure do hope its MO.
Maine yes Maine
maine
Glenna Calton, Kat and Mike have all made brilliant deductions. Here’s to recap the photos:
1) Missouri
Maryland.
2) Minnesota
3) Maine
4) Michigan
5) Massachusetts
6) Mississippi
7) Montana
Obviously, they plan to start narrowing the “M” state choices with future clues. BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW, here’s the speculation (and I’m sure I’m correct! :-O)
HGTV has had a “tradition” of placing GH projects in certain “Tradition”al developments. Could they be “keeping tradition” with the next project? Or perhaps keeping “close” to Tradition?
Next: The photo of St. Louis, MO is the only distinct location presented. It’s on the Mississippi River. There is Bay St. Louis IN Mississippi. Hmmm…
Next: There are avenues and drives all over coastal Mississippi named “Maine,” “Massachusetts,” “Michigan,” “Minnesota,” and “Maryland.”
Next: As for “Montana,” there are “Mount Calvary” churches cheek to jowel in Mississippi.
Next: Seafood galore on the Gulf Coast!
Next: Don’t know if you can grow cranberries in MS, but there sure are enough swamps/marshes, and their cuisine contains zillions of ’sweet potato and cranberry’ recipes!
Next: There actually ARE mountains in Mississippi… sort of. Oh, and pine trees to boot. Lots of those…
Next: All the coastal Mississippi towns have harbors.
Next: There are three lighthouses in Mississippi, including Biloxi.
Next: Bay St. Louis, MS is the “Gateway to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Next: Everything about coastal MS fits the profile of generous, casually elegant living in a mild climate, close to water.
Next: Pass Christian and Biloxi are both desperately re-developing after such devastating hurricanes. They’re starving for positive coverage and promotion.
My money’s on Gulf Coast, Mississippi, especially Pass Christian or Biloxi. 3rd would be the “other” Tradition development up north of Biloxi/Gulfport.
Looks to me like it is St. Louis, MO. That would be great because I have family that lives there and I would love to be close to them. So nice to finally have a home.
Michigan
Why does the letter M have to be a state? Why not a city? For sure it’s in the east.
It’s a city starting with the letter M…..such as Myrtle Beach?
The city of Myrtyl Beach, NC
So we know more or less it starts with the letter M._Maryland Route 99 is a 7.6-mile (12.2 km) section of Old Frederick Road … At one time, MD 99 east of St. John’s Lane, But everyone I know knows I am just speculating. So stupid!!! Vicky
MASS CAPE COD
missouri ttly has 2b,wat else? or michigan, cuz its by water (who knws)xept 4 the people who do know
The arch is St. Louis, MO, but Michigan has about 150 lighthouses and apples.
I THINK THAT THE NEXT GREEN HOUSE WILL BE IN ST LOUIS,MISSOURI.
Mass. has several thousand cranberry bogs right around cape cod…I bet it’s around there.
Maine
It is St. Louis , MO
This is a very stupid thought but if all the pictures are in a state that starts with M maybe the object in the picture is one of the letters in the name of the place. the letters are A for arch, M for mountains, L for lobster, L for lighthouse, C for cranberry’s, T for trees, V for valley, and B for Boats. So put those letters together to try to spell a place. But I probably not right.
Wow they all have water in them.
It’s clearly Missouri or else they wouldn’t have shown the Arch!
MASSACHUSETTS!!
I AM DEFINATELY SAYING THE LOCATION IS…"MAINE"!
"AM I RIGHT"?
I am sure it is Cape Cod, Massachusetts!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am Still Saying & Sticking With "New Hampshire / Vermont Area".
I think ( M ) is for MOUNTAINS .
MAINE FOR LOBSTER
maine barkers pond
Massachusetts..lol…ok so i cheated a lil bit!My husband and I adore Maine!
The 2010 green house will be built in Massachusetts
Great Guess! Maine, a beautiful place! My only hope is…whomever wins the 2010 HGTV Dream Home is
someone who needs a home or has experienced some
hardship (unemployment, lost job, etc.) who doesn't
already have a home or multiple homes.
HGTV: Pick a worthy recipient for the 2010 Dream Home!!!!
It's Saint Louis,Missouri.
Connecticut
Hmmmmm……..I would say it might be in Minnesota.
Michigan….
WE ARE GUESSING MICHIGAN
I think it may be Someplace in Washington State. Perhaps in the San Juan Islands. We have a Peace Arch between Washington and British Columbia. We have light houses. We have snow covered (real) mountains. We have a cranberry harvest. We have fantastic fishing and boating. And we have some of the biggest and most beautiful trees you will ever see. Definately Washington State.
I believe the 2010 greenhome will be in Detroit, Michigan.
Hi,
I am dam sure it is in Missouri!
The is no arch in Minnesota, only Missouri. My guess is St. Louis, Missouri.
I thinks its missouri!!!!!!!
Maine
Hope it's Ludington Michigan
It's in a development called The Pinehills in Plymouth Massachusetts. I can see it from my house .
Plymouth, Massachusetts
This is Massachusetts….I know it is because of the Cranberries, and the lighthouse and the lobster and the boats…I know it is Massachusetts
maine
