We Want Your Input!

We will be taping Kari Coffey’s first-ever visit to her newly won HGTV Green Home in the coming days and we want to know: What features of the HGTV Green Home 2009 remain a mystery to you? What spaces and places would you like Kari to investigate and show to you? Be as specific as possible. Wondering what the master closet looks like? What it feels like to sit on the screened porch and feel the tropical breeze against your cheek? Wondering just how sweet those strawberries in the hydroponic garden are? Post your ideas, thoughts and suggestions below and we’ll ask Kari to give you a personal peek at anything and everything you’ve been dying to see! Then keep checking Green Home Central for a video launch date announcement.

  1. Katydid, most of the new(er) properties in Phuket, particularly condos, are a very contemporary style, as is the new building which my unit is in. So my furnishings will honor that architectural design, and reflect the moderism of walls of glass, stark white tiled floors, black laquered kitchen cabinets with black and white flecked granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Major furniture pieces are fabric, black laquered wood, and chrome and glass. My color accents will be mostly pops of burgundy/reds, silver/grays, and black.

  2. I'm quite happy with contemporary, however I also LOVE the warmth and richness of the traditional Sino/Balinese peaked roof style with all of the beautiful teak wood flooring and finish accents. Along with that goes all of the high-end teak furnishings, which are just stunning, in such a range of fine fabrics—simple yet very chic. Thailand is well known for its custom-crafted teak furniture, as well as bamboo. Much of the newer teak furniture is now crafted from "reclaimed" teak—that is, from much older homes that are being demolished.

  3. The traditional architectural style is primarily for single-family high-end homes. I've chosen to "go condo" to avoid the constant maintenance a private home requires in such a tropical environment. Having to deal with pool and spa care year-round, gardening, and general upkeep on a home is too much trouble unless you're there at least several months or more out of the year. Leaving and locking up a condo, with just a once a month check up and cleaning is so much easier.

  4. Coop, Your condo sounds fabulous!!! Can't believe you're only spending one month there.

Can't imagine what your home in San Diego looks like. You're surrounded by beauty!!! Awesome!

  5. Coop, Just in case the thought crossed your mind, my home compared to your home in Phuket, would probably remind you of last night's show of Design Star. And that's all I've got to say about that!

  6. As in the number of Hollywood celebrities that have crossed its threshold? A few perhaps, but in the real world, what matters most are the good friends that cross it, and the good times shared with those friends and family. And square footage is less important than having your feet planted squarely in reality!

Do your best, and forget the rest, my fellow Pilgrims!

  7. In order to use the new IB I have had to change my screen name from steve e to BBSteve – still wondering about water barrel filling and using on roof – alive and well in Buzzards Bay, a step from Pine Hills, and am still looking for home site……….

  8. COOP: Thanks for your wonderful description of your Condo. I'm almost sure that in one of my searches for Phuket properties I saw a picture of one of the units in your Condo. Just as you described it. Very clean sleek and modern, suggesting easy maintenance. Can't help but wonder how much fun it will be to socialize with new friends around the pool. My bedroom set, consisting of a low six drawer dresser and a night stand is made of teak. Purchased about 20 years ago, it is still the best constructed furniture in my house. Wonder if it was made in Thailand? Keep safe, dear friend, and keep in touch!
