1. The granite is Absolute black. The backsplash tile is irregular shaped black and black/silver sparkle tile. This gives just enough punch without overpowering the modern, minimalist look of the bathroom, and is in keeping with the color pops and material textures throughout the condo.

It's coming along nicely, but like many things here, it's two steps forward, one step back!

I did find my throw pillows in red, black and medium gray for the sofas, so I'm quite happy with the look now.

2. Sounds beautiful, you must have quite an eye for style and detail. Perhaps HGTV has a spot for you. I'm not sure that they will be filming in Phuket but maybe when you get back. LOL Enjoy your trip.

3. Dear Mary,

I was perfectly content……BIG LIE! Starting over. I was almost content….another lie. Let me rephrase. I was thinking about contentment and peace until I read Coop's posts on his Phuket experiences. That man definitely has a way with words!

But I know that a new post by you would "choke out" (ultimate fighter word) anything Coop writes. Are you ready for the ULTIMATE THROWDOWN" with Coop?

Give us a new post and see what happens. You can do this. I know you can. Take the challenge!

Hint: The choke out will be quicker if you post a new thread on the Green Home AND the Dream Home blog the same day. He wouldn't stand a chance. Victory is yours! Take it!

Lessie on August 3, 2009 at 9:26 pm
4. DBCoop, when Mary posts new threads on the Dream Home and Green Home blogs the same day, tap out. That way you can spend all your time entertaining your guests.

You'll be happy and we'll be happy. Nice……

Lessie on August 3, 2009 at 9:30 pm
5. I can't believe that someone as thoughtful, as decent, and as concerned for my welfare and our best interests as MARY would do something as dire as you suggest, Lessie. Hit me with a one-two punch?— first with a strong right hook in the Dream Home blog, followed by a swift left jab in the Green Home blog , why that's diabolical.

Besides, my guests are now busy recovering from a 30 hour journey, so I have a little extra time at the moment to weave a few tales from Thailand once again. Not really tales of woe, but oh what a busy day I've had—aside from the airport trip, the flow of workers into the condo has gone on almost non-stop throughout the day. A few problems were resolved, others remain, while a few issues are, well, uncertain due to language barriers. One thing about the Thai, they are very polite, and will insist they understand your every word, until it comes down to the wire, and something entirely different comes about than what you THOUGHT was well understood! Part of the fun of the international experience….

6. So is Dan the man to beat in Design Star Season 4? Seems like he comes across consistently with creative and well-executed designs.

Marie's fellow Oregonian is rockin' and toppin' the charts of Design Star blogland.

And who will be the next TWO to have their shows cancelled?

DBCoop on August 4, 2009 at 1:34 pm
7. Look Coop, didn't I say I was trying to choke out envy?! Give a sister a break! As I read your words, how can I not think about the soul satisfying experiences you're having? You paint such exquisite word pictures!

Let me reel in those diabolical thoughts! Good thing I'm going to New York City tomorrow. Of course it can't compare to Phuket, but I'm sure I'll find something to do!

Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory here I come!!!

Lessie on August 4, 2009 at 3:33 pm
8. MARY, in case you read Coop's message with a slight reference to me, don't worry about it. He was only kidding.

It's ok to post new threads on the Green and Dream Home blogs. Coop's guests won't be recovering for long. He can entertain them and you can entertain us.

Don't you think that's fair?

Lessie on August 4, 2009 at 3:37 pm
9. Coop, praying that you get all issues resolved because I want your condo to be as beautiful inside as the Phuket views outside.

I would ask you to take pictures to share with us, but as you can see I have issues. Your word pictures will do. Love how they spark my imagination.

Lessie on August 4, 2009 at 3:44 pm
10. MARY, my entertainment issues are insignificant in relation to the larger picture of keeping all of HGTV's bloggers supercharged and the blogs buzzing with excited postings.

With new blog threads on offer, my Thailand tales will fade into relative obscurity, although perhaps remaining as colorful as a Phuket sunset none-the-less.

11. Looking for culture and the arts scene around the Plymouth area, Pilgrims? Try "The Art Complex Museum", located in the historic town of Duxbury 33 miles south of Boston. This impressive museum houses the collection of the Carl A. Weyerhaeuser family.

The town of Duxbury is worth a visit on its own. Fill us in on your visit, folks.

12. Thought you would all get a kick out of this Maine story:

Maine moose strolls into downtown building
August 05, 2009 09:23 EDT

CAMDEN, Maine (AP) — A 500-pound moose ambled into a downtown building in Maine and startled residents before being sedated by game wardens.

Resident Les Wainer, who'd just finished his morning coffee, was alarmed to discover the moose hanging out Tuesday in the lobby of the Knox Mill Center.

Camden police and building staff were able to corral the creature before game wardens arrived with a tranquilizer. It was set free in the Ruffingham Meadow State Game Management Area in Searsmont.

The Bangor Daily News says a filmmaker working on a Discovery Channel documentary about how moose interact with people caught the entire episode on film.

CathyMaineiac on August 5, 2009 at 2:06 pm
13. CathyMaineiac – I'm just sayin'……Does it sound a little fishy to you that there just so happened to be a filmmaker on-site doing a documentary about how moose interact with people and he/she caught the entire episode on film? Are we sure that he/she didn't open the door for the moose? jk…LOL!

Great story….thanks for sharing…glad there wasn't anyone hurt and that the moose was set free!

14. Yes, apparently Dan is THE Man! His room was so complete and finished looking…very polished. I also really liked Nathan's wall treatment and light design..very clever…who knew milk and oranges could look so good?! My favorite was how his 'carpet' looked like plush expensive carpeting. In addition, Torie had a design flair that was very well executed. Her 'carpet' also was fab…love those animal prints!

A double elimination should be very interesting. There are a few or more who better step it up with this next challenge…should be interesting!

Living the Dream!

LynnCoggin on August 5, 2009 at 5:15 pm
15. it does seem a little "coincidental" that the filmmaker was on site for the whole thing. Did anyone get some moose nuggets? I couldn't believe some people would actually buy moose nugget earrings as souveniers in Alaska? Guess they were relatively safe since it was only one moose. I've heard stories about getting between mama mose & her baby – cars demolished & we even had a military dog that only had one eye since he was in the wrong place at the wrong time so mama kicked him.

16. GlennNYC, Luba and other chocoholics,

Max Brenner's (the bald headed chocolate genius in New York City) is the best chocolate store I've been in! When you open the door, chocolate overwhelms you. HEAVENLY! Their samples are the best.

Will try their restaurant later this week. Thanks GlennNYC for this great find!

Lessie on August 6, 2009 at 2:46 am
17. Yikes—moose on the loose! Now that's a story that bears repeating.

Sounds like the whole thing was a set up, and probably through email between the filmmaker and the moose, who was promised two pairs of sneakers and thermal socks for winter weather. Certainly cheaper than hiring a couple of actors in a moose suit at union wages.

And speaking of, Kat, I hope we get a few nuggets of exciting new info soon here in the Green Home blog from the omnipotent powers that be at HGTV! After all, we've been reduced to blogging about moose nugget earrings and a Maine moose on the loose, along with tidbits from your Phuket Pilgrim to tide us over.

Pilgrims Rule!

18. And now, thanks to Lessie's report on Max Brenner's NYC chocolate emporium, we can add chocolate to our repertoire of blog topics once again. Como agua por chocolate, amigos. Dicen que no es possible comer demasiado chocolate, verdad?

DBCoop on August 6, 2009 at 3:02 am
19. Okay, folks, with the story of moose, I tried to stay on target with that, however, it took me to moose tracks ice cream which then led me to ice cream flavors which then led me to thinking about Ben & Jerry's which then led me to 'Chocolate Therapy'…for Lessie who is in New York and searching out fab chocolate places within Manhatten.

'Chocolate Therapy' is the name for an ice cream by B&J and here is the descirption:

Chocolate ice cream with chocolate cookies and swirls of chocolate pudding.

Okay, now that led me to another B&J flavor which is 'Fossil Fuel' which actually pertains to this Green Home blog so here it goes:

'Fossil Fuel' is an ice cream best described like this…Sweet Cream Ice Cream with Chocolate Cookie Pieces, Fudge Dinosaurs and a Fudge Swirl. Wait! Could we use this in our cars or lawnmowers?

Okay, so there you have it! I think I'll have another piece of peach pie I made for dessert tonight! Would anyone like the recipe?

Living the Dream!

P.S. Mary, please save me from myself!

20. It is not unusual to see a moose here even where you don't expect to see one. When I was a kid (5 million years ago) a moose came out onto the street when I was walking to school with other kids. We all ran back home. Last night I told my mom about the moose in Camden and she said that she and my aunt and uncle (up from Houston) saw one in the Portland area. My husband saw one in downtown Lewiston about a week ago.

Years ago I had one come up on my deck. My son and I were holding our dog back and forgot to shut the sliding glass doors. We stood in the kitchen until he left. He would not have fit in through the door anyway. And the most exciting moose encounter for me was when I was sunning on a lounge chair, had fallen asleep and woke to see a moose standing over me. I screamed and he made a scream like a fog horn. He ran one way and I ran the other into the house. He became a regular visitor as he had fallen, it seems, in love with one of our cows.

Wonder if there are moose wandering in Plymouth?

23. Moose on the loose! Very funny Coop. How''s your guests? Are they enjoying the beauty of Phuket? Tell them your blogging buddies send them greetings.

P.S. If they would like to take pictures and share them with us, tell them it's perfectly ok with us. That will give them instant blogger credibility and fame.

Lessie on August 7, 2009 at 12:49 pm
24. FYI: Max Brenner's hot chocolate is not from powder. Its REAL chocolate! Best hot chocolate I ever had!!!

If ever in New York, check out Max Brenner's. There's a whole foods store right around the corner. Max Brenner's is at 14th Street and Broadway. I think it's the Union Square exit.

25. Any of you other bloggers notice they updated the Dream Cam to August 6th? Looks like they are wrapping the Dream Home with stucco paper.

EdinOregon on August 9, 2009 at 9:52 pm
26. Thanks for the info Ed in Oregon. Looked up stucco paper and discovered: "Stucco is known to be a weather resistant building finish, but it is part of a system. In order for the wall to resist water penetration effectively, the system must be properly designed and detailed, then built according to plans.

The main purpose of building paper is to keep water from contacting the substrate and structural support members—very commonly sheathing like plywood or OSB (oriented strand board) and wood or metal studs—so that these materials stay dry. Metal can rust and wood can rot. Also, wood is prone to expand and contract with changes in moisture, so it’s essential to keep sheathing dry to provide the plaster with a sound substrate. Minimizing the changes in moisture minimizes the stresses that might be placed on plaster from behind. In addition to structural considerations, excess moisture within a wall creates a potential for mold or mildew inside buildings."

Lessie on August 11, 2009 at 2:32 am
27. cont'd

"Building paper prevents moisture-related problems in stucco walls. Several industry documents, such as PCA’s Portland Cement Plaster/Stucco Manual (EB049), ACI’s Guide to Portland Cement-Based Plaster, and building codes across the country, recommend 2 layers of paper. During construction, paper can be damaged. Two layers of paper provide greater assurance that water won’t get to the sheathing or support members. Paper should be lapped like siding, meaning that upper layers are placed over lower layers. This facilitates drainage toward the outside. Where the edges of paper-backed lath meet, connections should be lath-to-lath and paper-to-paper.

Building paper should comply with the current requirements of UU-B-790a, Federal Specifications for Building Paper, Vegetable Fiber (Kraft, Waterproofed, Water Repellent, and Fire Resistant). This specification differentiates weather resistive Kraft papers by types, grades, and styles. Grade D is a water-vapor permeable paper. Grade D paper with a water resistance of 60 minutes (or more) works well for stucco applications, and is often preferred to Grade D paper having the minimum 10-minute resistance required by UU-B-790a."

28. Just thought I'd share with others like me who didn't quite understand the importance of wrapping our Dream Home with stucco paper.

Hope this helps!

29. Great moose stories CathyMaineiac! Loved your waking up to a moose standing over you story the best. Now that's what I call an unforgetable encounter.

30. Lessie,
I would indulge in chocolate all the time. But I am not too into blogging lately.
Unfortunately my case with ear problem is worse than I thought. I was told – after CAT scan- that I have an infection in bone ( mastoid) behind ear. I was put on Cipro. If this will not work I am facing delicate surgery. This condition can be fatal – if it gets to brain. SO, I am living my days fully now. Spending time with my daughter, trying to get healthy, and not thinking about the worst. I am in stage of shock – I have no idea – neither doctor- how this happened to me. I will be back blogging after I will know what is in there for me. In a case I will not came back -the worst happened. Love you all. Life goes on! :-)

32. Luba, just reading your message. I lost about 3 weeks of emails. Hope people aren't offended because I haven't responded.

Know that I am praying for you. Will research your condition so I will know how to specifically pray for you. Just so you know, I'm praying that you don't have surgery, that your bone infection is healed and most importantly that this deadly infection does not get to your brain.

Continue to spend time living your life to the full. I'm expecting the best for you. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

35. I was going to leave sprint for AT&T only for the click here . I have no issues with service, just want a cool phone. I can get the Instinct for $129, the iphone for $199. Both have rate plans that start at $70, so why would I leave Sprint now? Besides the 2GB mem on Instinct vs. 8GB on iPhone, what can the iPhone do the instinct can’t? Zoom in?
