  1. I am so excited, I finally saw the floorplans today. I love it!

  2. Mary: You have given us today more than I ever expected, including floor plans. Thank you! I love the porches and fireplace too. Love the look of a cottage, though the tower room seems a little useless to me. Am I reading the floor plans wrong? With two half baths, but only one shower/bathtub in the master suite? Do the kids have to troop through the master to take a bath?
I've always thought HGTV designers pay much too attention to the Master Suite. Like it's a honeymoon room. Hey, if the kids ain't happy, mama and papa ain't gonna be happy either.
I never saw a cottage with an attached garage. Could that space be turned into a "home owner's suite" with bed and bath? I guess some people value their transportation more than their home. That's OK.
    Think I'll sleep on it.

  3. Actually katydid the big X in the second bathroom upstairs is the symbol for a shower. There does appear to be only one bathtub though.

  4. Mary, Mary, oh so uncontrary!!! I LOVE THIS HOUSE!!!! It may in fact be my most favorite of all times!! Just look at it! It entails everything I've ever wanted in a home!! It has my name written all over it! The exterior has unordinary appeal & now, the floor plans have given life to the interior! It certainly combines many features, especially that tower that could be misconstrued as a lighthouse!!! Okay, guys I have my flashlight ready, I will claim this house as the home of the Plymouth Pilgrim Flasher!!! The lean, green & flashing machine!!!!!

Be back in about three days!!! See ya!!!

  5. MGTOTD: Vodka is actually effective at removing the remains of bumper stickers. Just soak a clean cloth with it, and rub at the glue. It will come right off.

(Okay, it is an expensive way, and maybe alcohol might work just as well!! However, I just know that Coop will have something witty to say about this tip!! Like, let's get tipped with this tip, or I am drunk with joy that it works???)

  6. Mary….. Thank You … Thank You … I agree with Marie,, it is everything that she has always talked about… And, I love it too!!! IT is beautiful and I love that there is a bedroom on the same floor as the Master!!! I never could imagine having my son sleep too far away… at least for the next several years!!! I love the loft,,, and could imagine my son running up there to hide from his Papi!!! Way too exciting… I am already imagining what furniture is going in…. all of the organic linens… all of the green features….. all of the green inventions….. all of the textures, mixing new with reused…. as Linda is so talented at!!!! Marie, Vodka helps getting those stickers your child puts on the side of the fridge… or door…. thanks or that info… and use the cheap brand and save the good stuff for good times!!! Katydid, Ed is correct.. There is a shower in the kid's room/guest room.. I guess if you have little ones, heading to the Master is best!! And now that my son is almost 9…. is the only thing he likes…. he learned that it is faster and that you don't have to use so much water… His Papi showed him the "European Shower" routine.. Turn on the water…. to get wet…. turn it off… soap up, shampoo… turn the water on… rinse… repeat or if your clean,,,, jump out and reuse that towel….. but no more than three times!!!!! I am a little more finicky than my husband… he could use the same towel for a week or two… NO WAY.. it has dead skin cells, etc.. Wash it… I can't wait for the green technology on this Green Home!!!! Love life by living green!!!

  7. First in a three part series, I'd like to wish Marie Miller a wonderful getaway to the wild and stormy gray yonder into which she is daring to venture. And, no witty comments on your MGTOTD, Marie, except to say that in addition to using vodka to remove bumper sticker residue, mixing it into several cocktails while cleaning the bumpers also has the effect of eventually removing other stubborn issues like the remains of one's commonsense! I can vouch for that in days long past, although I'm not at liberty to disclose the circumstances within this blog! Now, shouldn't that sign-off alias you used, Marie, of Plymouth Pilgrim Flasher be appropriately spelled Phlasher?

reneelovesgreen, as I see it, a 3 day old bath towel may contain dead skin cells, but at least they're clean! Besides, MY SKIN has more dead cells than a 3 day old towel, and they're a lot older too!!! Now, don't talk to me about bedsheets—I don't want to hear the grim news.

  8. Okay, a quick part two, and on to what is possibly the most exciting news of the day—the Green Home floorplans. Time out while I actually go look at them before making any foolish off the cuff remarks! I'll have Show Me check them out and file a full report for my perusal.

  9. Thank you for the newly-dedicated HGTVPro microsite and link. I was already sold on the pedestrian-friendly Pinehills community! What a great surprise to be able to be able to find out more details about the 2010 HGTV Green Home in Plymouth, MA. I can't wait for April!

I loved the shingle-style cottage design, the wrap-around porch, reclaimed New England fieldstone fireplace, and copper roof with weathervane. And, I especially loved the tower room! What a great reading room and home office space. What a great place to curl up with a good book, a hot cup of cocoa, and a piece of pumpkin pie (or cranberry fudge).

It was great to see the floor plans. I can't wait to see Linda Woodrum work her magic on the interior design! Kudos to the entire team!

  10. Now for part three, the last of today's great triple play.

Amazing—not only is the Green Home a true two (story) but with a loft tower as well. No wonder Marie is so happy as she leaves us on her journey while we deconstruct the houseplans during her absence.

Two things stand out most for me; it appears there are two "lofts", one on the second floor landing off the Master Bedroom, which would make a great sitting room, work station or den/library, while the tower holds the "lighthouse" loft, which would be a fun area to purpose for many uses, either as the owner's private "getaway" or a children's study, play, or TV/activity room.

The other thing is that the Great Room is quite large, but seems it would be difficult to arrange sofas and chairs along with a dining area, other than the bar stool countertop eating spot. I'm sure Linda Woodrum will tackle that challenge in grand style.

  11. Coop: Again you made me laugh so hard with your posts I almost fell off my chair. What fun you are! I wish I had looked at the floor plans more closely before making my foolish off the cuff remark.. Ed and Renee are right, of course, as I saw after taking a second look and finding the shower.
Marie is such a good sport, I hope she has a few days relief of our constant bantering before she has to return and flash (I mean dash) out a few more tips of the day. . Coop, you have given me much insight on how to use the loft/s. Just wondering why the garage is attached, when I thought other Green Homes said the fumes that could get into the house might be harmful?

  12. Dear: Mary, Thank you for the great update on 2010 DGH and it looks
more clearly the picture frame already. But I only have a doubt if this
GH is little smaller than 2009 ? .
Hey! guys I think this Green will have a full bathroom for children bedroom, and a half bathroom for visitors and of course the full is
for the master, Wow!! looks like going its to be a great Dream bloggers :)

  13. I've gone through all the photos-WOW. It's a wonderful place to live & the home is extraordinary.I lived in Mass. awhile & loved the shore & surrounding areas. For me, it would be the perfect retirement home with room for lots of family & friends to come, stay awhile & have a great time.

  15. Sorry, I don't see lots of room for family and friends to come and stay awhile.
I do see this cottage as being perfect for my daughter and her family. Two girls sharing the second bedroom, Youngest guy in the same floor loft. And mom and dad in the master. I also see them offering sleeping bag space in the great room, or weather permitting, on the porch. I see my son-in-law kiteboarding all over the nearby waters. POP! My bubble just burst. Where is old Nana? Up in the tower (of London). No, it's a lighthouse. Do I let down my hair to retrieve a basket of bread and water,
No, I phlash….flash….flash….before I do anything foolish, I turn off my alarm clock. When you doze you have crazy dreams., Marie, hurry back.

  16. I thought the gh had a basement according to some earlier reports. The floor plan does not indicate that. Was a basement just wishful thinking, or has the original floorplan been changed. Does anyone know?

Loretta on October 16, 2009 at 7:42 pm
  17. Good morning. Hope this posts. My other ones didn't.

Loretta, if you look at the stairs….one stair ARROW goes up. The ARROW beside the kitchen goes down. Hope this helps. I've had to look at the photos again…to be sure.

    The tower is fabulous!!!

Trish on October 17, 2009 at 1:27 pm
  18. While the laundry is on the ground floor, I'd assume that the house mechanicals might be in the basement. However, we have no plans to show us what kind of area will be downstairs. Could there be a man-cave space, rec room, gym, artist studio/craft room, or, surprise?

    Is anybody telling, MARY?

DBCoop on October 17, 2009 at 5:04 pm
  19. Coop: Thanks for the idea. If the tower has power, that would be my office space. Quiet and aloof, so to speak. So glad the laundry if on the ground floor. Sorry, I hate the term "man-cave". Rec room, gym, studio/craft room, all OK. Heck, you could have a gym and craft room back to back. A wife could be working out in the gym while her husband could be doing great carpentry work as his hobby.
    Hurry back Marie.

Katydid on October 17, 2009 at 11:32 pm
  20. Good, I agree Katydid—I dislike the term man-cave too—it's so crudely prehistoric. I am now deleting it from my vocabulary (despite its popularity with some design show hosts), to be replaced with the term: (choose one or add your own!)

    A. leisure lounge
    B. spouse house
    C. chill grill
    D. zen den

DBCoop on October 19, 2009 at 3:47 am
  21. Coop: Love all your suggestions, guess I'd have to go with A or D. Hope the detested term is deleted from all the design show hosts. Take note HGTV and all affiliates.

  25. I'm not sure what the size of the rooms are so I guess that might make a difference on what the loft room would be. Depending on the size I would use it as an office since I work from home. I can't wait to see it completed!

  26. When can we begin entering for 2010 Dream Home? Can't find the info anywhere.

  27. This is a beauty. Whoever wins will enjoy my dream of lobster, lobster, and more lobster. Who can enjoy all the historical places out there without the sustaining help of lobster. Mmmmm. This is just a fantastic location, and I must go take a closer look at the community. I look forward to learning about all the green features, coming soon?

Robin on October 21, 2009 at 7:38 pm
  28. I have to say, I am very disapointed with the greennes of this home, the only thing green is the recycled and organic furniture, I was expecting a green home not green decor, I'm talkng about solar pannels, energy star rated apliances, sensor that can detect when you leave the room and turn off the ligths if you didn't, that type of thing.
    Very disapointing

Martin on October 25, 2009 at 4:17 pm
  29. DB Coop: I have to agree also, with the verbage of "man cave" as not being very hospitable, universal & very exclusionary with this term. Well said, "prehistoric".

I like all of your suggested names for that special room. They are all really good ones. I think, I lean mostly towards zen den, or do for now, anyways. It's easy to say, flows well off the tongue. Words evoke in me a place for relaxation, inspiration, & an ability to reclaim inner spirit.

Thanks for that suggestion, I really like it more and more. I have to start using it. Thanks, really, very good idea.
