A Green Idea From Long Ago

Interactive planning director Jeannine sent this image to me this morning. Residents of Sun City, a retirement community near Phoenix, once upon a time covered their lawns in grass-colored gravel. What do you think? This eco idea dates back to the early 1960s. Who needs drought-tolerant shubs and flowers when there’s emerald stones to scatter across the yard?

Marie Miller, where do you get all these great tips? This is another great one!
Coop, it's entries like this that can stir up my envy. Oh well, gotta choke it out before it takes root. Thanks for that move, Mixed Marshall Arts.
What I don't have to choke out is your great descriptions. Love them!
Its Beautiful and attractive too for any way and I like the way they are working for greenery. Every country should do work like this. Thanks for showing.

I for one would rather let my lawn go wild than kill whatever is there to put down stones. I'm concerned about keeping green while still making sure my daughter is protected against H1N1 when in school. There is a great report here from the Environmental Working Group about disinfection in schools and H1N1, and it rates different solutions for how green and non-toxic they are: EWG Report there's also questions for school admins here: H1N1 Schools
That is probably WHY this was done INSTEAD of putting in grass. (both for cost & it's user friendly) I LOVED living in the SW with the easy care landscapes! MUCH nicer then my landlord's son zooming around the property once a month like a mad man!
