The house we're in right now….desperately needs a window update. We have frost….and NOT doing your treatment. LOL I call it seasonal decorating ….I think I can get by with that through January.
Thank you. I couldn't find it under his page.. I will go back and look by clicking the "Wall" tab. Thank you!!
Coop… I found them!!! I followed your directions and WOW, there they were! They are really awesome and I love the Market.. It looks like they are already building next door. It is amazing at the progress.. There is beautiful landscaping and walkways!! Steve, thanks for being a wonderful insider!! How lucky are we!! I want to head to that Market!! Marie, I love your frosting tip…and I can drink rest of the Corona… I think that we will try it on the sliding glass doors, after making cut-outs of snowflakes, candy canes and Christmas trees. Love life by living green and having a dream!!!
BBSteve – Thank you so much for taking the time to take the photos of the Green Home! WOW! That was so nice of you to share them with us on Facebook!
They look great! Did you like the home and the area?
Some of the photos looked as if they were taken from across the street but it looked like you must have climbed into a tree to take a downshot of the home….terrific! Or, maybe, you're just really, really tall?!?!?!
Thanks again for sharing!
Living the Dream!
there is a small knoll in front of the GH on commom property – covered with deer tracks – they tend to run into this neighborhood during hunting season – all pictures were taken from the common grounds, with the exception of the views of the garage and driveway – they were finishing up the inside painting, could not even sneak a peak in the windows – anxiously awaiting the view from the tower – apears to be over the trees
I think BBSteve deserves a thumbs up for his photography work! Thanks so much Steve and it was good to see you on Facebook!
Living the Dream!
Hey Coop! First of all, have I told you lately how nice it is to have you back? If not, please know that we all appreciate your wit and wisdom here as well as the DH site!!! Well, I guess I have to tear myself away from the computer and get busy with Xmas baking…I cannot wait any longer to bake some gingerbread & stir up some old-fashioned fudge! If I don't, my doctor's office and the rest of my friends on my lists, will never forgive me!! So, as Julia Child so nicely puts it 'Bon Appétit'!!!!
MGTOTD: Try a little corn syrup to remove stubborn grass stains from clothing, instead of those expensive pre-soaks. Just rub the syrup into the stain and launder as normal.
(From beer to corn syrup, your cupboard is full of helpful household remedies!!)
P.S. To BBSteve! Fantastic!!! Thank you so much for sharing the photos of the Green Home! another BIG WOW!
Hey Coop with the historic mind! You are right, The Fairbanks House in Dedham, MA, does carry the date 1636 on its chimney!!! The house has been designated an official National Landmark!!!! And, though it has not been modernized, a “new” wing was added about 1650. WOW!!!! Maybe you're also right when you say for comfort and modern conveniences, the Green Home is your best bet!!!! Thanks for the info Plymouth Pilgrim!!!
You should have pulled on some coveralls and slipped inside the Green Home, pretending to be part of the painting team! Think of photo opportunities you would have had!
Well, on second thought, maybe not. We wouldn't want you featured in a mug shot on the front page of the local paper!
Maybe we can get GAIL to interview Jack T, and ask him about the view from the upper tower windows.
A thumbs up for BBSteve has been duly registered!
Wow, you ARE a miracle worker Marie. How about we all send you our mailing addresses, and in return, you send us some of those homemade baked goodies! Now that would keep you busy for the next several weeks!
And by the way, right back at 'ya! A day without a post from Marie Miller is like a day without sunshine, as they say.
Keep on cookin', Marie, both online and off! Either way, we all appreciate your thought and hard work.
Happy Holidays—always surrounded by friends and family!
Isn't it amazing—1636! My ancestors didn't even cross the Atlantic (that I'm aware) until 1946, three hundred and ten years later! What were they thinking of—now I'm missing out on having a historic home on the East Coast to enjoy as a result of their failure to launch. Oh well, there are other advantages, such as lots of English and French relatives to visit overseas.
Of course, I can always hold out hope of winning the Green Home, in which case I'd have an absolutely ideal summer home to enjoy each year. With the recent news and views, the home will definitely be a slice of New England heaven, lighthouse tower and all.
Plymouth Pilgrims Rock Around the Clock!
Am I right in seeing that there is only one bedroom in this house? Where will I put all of my kids?
Well, you could stash them in the tower loft. But seriously, besides the Master Bedroom and Bath upstairs, there is a second bedroom and ensuite bathroom as well as a loft area. Then, as I mentioned, there's also the third floor tower loft room.
While the home has a basement, we've not been given any info on the size or what will be placed there—maybe nothing more than house mechanicals/utility storage, or?
Keep in mind that the Green Home is a comfy 2,100 square feet, while the Dream Home weighs in with a spacious 3,900 square feet, so the DH has a bit more year-round wiggle room. Regardless, I'll be more than happy to enter both sweepstakes, and win either one, or both!
I am with you.. on entering both, that is.. I love comfy spaces and after seeing the picks from Steve.. I have found myself wondering how wonderful the Market would be.. how wonderful the walks would be.. (though I don't want to meet up with an angry deer)..
Ok… BBSteve… If there are deer… what other animals are there?? Is it possible to grow an organic garden?? Do you have younger children that love the area?? Tell us more.. Please!! Thank you in advance! Love life by living green and having a dream!!
And I second that!
OMG… Marie.. Can I have your fudge recipe? Does it have walnuts? You are awesome!!!
JessiRose, you can view the floor plan on HGTVPro to see what Coop is talking about… Good Luck!!
we also have pheasant, skunks, coyote, turkey, opossum, birds galore, not to mention the fresh and salt water fish within minutes of the Green Home – Schools in most of Massachusetts are good to excellent – my kids, Wyatt (1995) and Marley (1993) are both involved in the extensive soccer programs here – as of yet, there do not appear to be a lot of kids wandering around in Pine Hills – I am certain that will change as young professionals find the public trand[ortation commuting to the city – there is a ton of shopping, both local and chain, within a ten miles or so – we spent a great deal of time in this area when it was woods, as much as I miss the old days, about a hour away is the Cape Cod National Seashore, which was chartered to be left as natural as possible
Oh, the garden – I am not sure what the use of the common lands dictates, however, ther is a book I read about 20 years ago, The Square Foot garden, which has an interesting view on small gardens, how to manage them, and keep a fresh supply of seasonal veggies – they base the garden on 4 foot square lots……..
And MARY, can we look forward to a refreshing new look also coming soon to the Green Home blog?
MARY, I second Coop's motion for the Green Home webpage update–modern, inviting, and more user-friendly—just like the cool new Dream Home blog webpage. Who could ask for more!
Great info Steve!!!! I love all of the details!! My Son, Luca is involved in traveling soccer as well!! I am glad to hear about the schools and it sounds like a wonderful place to raise children. I will make sure that my daily entry is made as I am getting more and more excited about the Green Home and living in Pinehills!!!!!!
I agree with Coop and Show Me!! I love the new refreshing look on the Dream Home blog webpage.
Happy Holidays to Pilgrims and their families throughout HGTV-land. May your dreams come true, be they small or very, very grand.
I agree with Show Me on the Holiday Wishes. However, it's been whispered that I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas, 'cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad!
Is it too late to be good, Santa?
I've been dreaming of a green home forever and it may be in my future if I'm the lucky one……I'm in love with the rain barrel, how gorgeous!!!!! Keep those clever ideas coming our way!!!
love the new england look, have lot's of familey that still live there. The PHELPS familey has been in this country,U.S.A since long before1748.this would be a nice gathering place for a reunion.love to see the finnished project I'll keep watching.
The green home pics are great. Will the home use any wind or solar energy items?
I just watched all the videos again, I come here to relax…thanks for the daydream!
There is solar on the tower roof. Though that is a small roof and only some of it faces the sun so I can't imagine much solar. If you look at the finishing touches photos, you can see the bottom edge of two solar panels in one of the photos.

So am I. I am absolutely in love with this house and am planning what to bring when I move in. Our telescope will be prefect in the tower room for looking at the night sky, but I think my daughter wants it for her room (never) Pam
This just goes to show that we can all have a "Green Home" it really isn't that hard to maintain at all.
