Experiencing HGTV Green Home 2010
The trip to Plymouth, Mass., was rather uneventful for our online crew. We departed from Tennessee just in time to escape a winter storm bulldozing its way across the southern states. The flight was calm (a few bumpy spots, but nothing out of the ordinary), the drive from Providence, RI, to Plymouth was a pleasure (so nice to see salt water and seagulls again!) and our first few days at the home have been simply serene as the photographers take pictures and I take notes in preparation for the launch of the virtual tour.
After examining every room and marveling over interior designer Linda Woodrum’s furniture, fabric and accessory choices (traditional New England, the scheme is not), I have to say that my favorite space is, oddly enough, the laundry room. There’s just something really cool and industrial about that space, outfitted as it is with tiled floors, a deep oversized sink, nautical-style light fixtures, cranberry red appliances, interesting textures and storage galore. I could imagine someone coming in from the garden with a basket of fresh herbs to trim — or from the bay with a bushel of quahogs to shuck.
I couldn’t sign off without sharing a few pictures of the interior (click on each thumbnail to view the full-size beauty shot). The series of steps that leads to the tower puts one in mind of a spiraling lighthouse staircase. The view from the top is just about as spectacular — but rather than leagues of deep blue sea, you behold acres of lush pine. Take a look at the pics, post your thoughts and let me know if you have any questions I might be able to answer before our virtual tour launches on April 1.
Peace out … and here’s hoping HGTV Green Home 2010, Plymouth and plenty of fish chowder are in your future!

The stairs remind me of walking up the stairs of a lighthouse. Love it! Of course we do though…
Same here…I can't find where to enter
The Dream Home giaway entry period is over (Feb 19th was the last day to enter)and the Green Home hasn't begun yet….
Josie
I like the decorative items which are hanged of the wall of the first pic they are colorful and nice, I wonder what they are made from?
Just simply…….lovely. Not to mention the area is great, there's history, culture, and some of the best schools. I am from Florida but have family in Mass.
Fabulous as always…. and 41% more energy efficient than a traditionally built home! As a "down to eath" question, I am wondering what the Real Estate Taxes might be? What a home!
This home is more MY style than many I have seen in contests. It has more simple an cozy lines to it. I am just not into all the obulence and/or fluff. And I really like white as a base color over the earth tones… Gives this home a more "clean and fresh" appeal.
Love everthing about New England; grew up there thru 6th grade. Raised on lobsters n fresh seafood. The house looks challenging, yet lovely. Hope you stay true to the old woods.
how do we enter the sweepstakes 4 the 2010 greenhome
Hi,
I read that the roof is a metal roof with copper in it. Is the roof grounded in case of lightning strikes? I've seen on the Weather Channel (during one of their helpful hints spotlights) that unless a metal roof is grounded to the earth (usually through a network of copper wires attached to the metal roofs and then having the lines extended (dug) into the earth surrounding the homes), that sometimes lightning will strike the homes and it will catch on fire. So, I was wondering; is the new 2010 Green Home grounded?
HI! I love the design and I will love it even more if I win it.
When does the 2010 GREEN HOME sweepstakes begin?
How many bedrooms in the greenhome and can basement be finished off
Thanks for the sneek peek! I can't wait until the virtual tour launches!
After reviewing the photos on the HGTVpro site, I have to admit, THIS HOUSE HAS MY NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!!! From the Farm Sink to the Burnt Sugar Wood Floors and the autumn look of the exterior pictures (autumn is my favorite time of year). Also, Cape Cod is my favorite place to vacation. I am also in love with the patio area and the rain barrel as well as the taped blinds. I love the whole lifestyle picture. I truly hope and pray to be the winner of this house.
The few pics are nice. I'm liking that art work thats hanging on the stair case are they hand made glass? They add a nice touch to the wall instead of a picture. I also like the white chair with the swirly red design,it's crazy cool !!! I like the stair case very very nice, the carpeting on its nice but I'd rather just have total wood showing. The area of this Green Home is FANTASTIC you couldn't have chosen a better place for this home .What views the winner is going to have from that tower, amazing !!!!
Hi Mary,
Glad you made it in the winter weather here in new england… this looks like a modern cottage with the wall design and furniture I lov the outside of the house but I am sure I can get use to the modern version of the inside…keep up the nice work looking forward to signing up each day to win …this awsume house… take care Jean from Ma…. Bog Cabin Fanatic!!!!!
I'm so excited that you're building a green home in my area.__I can't wait to enter the giveaway. It would be so awesome to win a home close by and Plymouth is a wonderful location.
I can't wait to see the rest of this house!! I am definitely going to be trying for it this time around. I live in RI and have no children so this is a perfect house for me. I'd still be close enough to see family all the time and with enough room my 2 nieces could come stay over lots. I absolutely adore that staircase up to the tower. I've always loved spiral staircases and that's what I think of when I see it. That wraparound porch is my dream. If I was able to afford to buy any house this would be my ideal. Being green only makes it that much better.
Is this house set up for a handicap child ? I have a 9 year old special needs child and I have never heard anything said about being set up for this.
When are we able to enter for the 2010 green home?
I'M 34YRS OLD AND I'M TAKING CARE OF MY 88YR OLD GRANDMOTHER.SHE NOW LIVES WITH ME.THIS HOME IS BEAUTIFUL AND I MUST SAY I LIKE IT BETTER THEN THE DREAM HOME YOU JUST GAVE AWAY.IT LOOKS LIKE A HOME YOU CAN AND SIT BACK AND RELAX ,WHICH EVERYONE NEEDS THAT WHITH ALL THE CRAZY STUFF THAT CAN HAPPEN DAY TO DAY.THIS IS A HOME YOU CAN CALL HOME.IT BRINGS A SENSE OF PEACE,JUST LOOKING AT THE PICTURES.I CAN PICTURE TAKING MY GRAMMA OUT IN HER WHEELCHAIR OUTSIDE,WITH MY HUSBAND AND SON AND JUST ENJOYING EVER BIT OF YOUR HOME YOU BUILT.THANK YOU.
Does anyone know why HGTV doesn't give a cash prize along with the Green Home give away?
This truly is a dream home.Even without a piece of furniture it's so beautiful.I will enter it daily and do some extra praying. The person who wins it will be so fortunate. Thanks again to HGTV for giving so many people a few weeks of dreaming.
All of you people on here MUST BE STRUNG OUT ON CRACK!! THIS IS THE WORST, MOST HORRIBLY UGLY HOUSE, AND INTERIOR DECORATING INSIDE, THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!! FROM THE BUILDER, on down…. Should be SHOT for ever giving a house THIS HORRIBLY UGLY TO ANYBODY PERIOD!! IT SHOULD BE A CRIME TO MAKE SUCH A HORRIBLE UGLY PIECE OF GODDAMNED SHIT SUCH AS THIS!!! Linda Woodrum YOU MOST DEFINITELY NEED TO QYIT DECORATING IMMEDIATELY!! YOU ARE FIRED!!!
I absolutely love the kitchen in this home. The red granite counter top just glistens – everything is coordinated and cherry. This would be a wonderful home for a middle aged empty nest couple that has a need for only a guest bedroom – As I think that the floor space is a bit small for a family with children as the bunk beds imply. The eclectic feel of this community matches the style of the home as well and the
outdoor kitchen will provide much entertaining for friends and neighbors from the community. This would be the perfect home for an idealistic baby boomer who wanted to be eco friendly always – as there are so many eco touches and links to the nostalgic past.
Karen I agree with you but on the other hand a small family could make it work. This house would be perfect for me and I would love it! The tower would be my "think space" and I would so enjoy entertaining my guest in the outdoor kitchen.
What a great home! I absolutely love it. You all did a great job – I LOVE the staircase and I think it will be a Dream Home for anyone lucky enough to win it. Also, Plymouth Ma is a beautiful place. It would be a real adventure for someone like me, coming from the West Coast! Thank you for doing such a great job. You better believe my name will be entered in the contest when the time comes!
Who is the artist who did the abstract Goldenrod Painting on the living room mantle? … love it and I've been searching for something similar for my own house.
This is so exciting. I LOVE the tower, I'm a lighthouse kid born when my dad was a lighthouse keeper on the Great Lakes. I looked from my tower and saw the beautiful Lake Superior. I am dreaming about this cottage….
Yes, the laudry room is very cool and quite functional. Particularly like seeing the various recycling bins.
However, I must say that I love the yard and inside I would be hiding out in that tower room. I'd feel like I'm outside even though I'd be indoors.
Once again, HGTV and all of your terrific sponsors, have done a splendid job putting together this wonderful house in a very nice area of the Northeast.
I have a question that I would like answered! I Do NOT like this house AT ALL!! IT is BY FAR THE UGLIEST I HAVE SEEN YET! SO! with that in mind…. If I should win this hideous ugly house (or anyone else as a matter of fact!), and I didn't want it! Could I just sell it or get the money for it?? How would that work?? I would NOT EVEN TRAVEL HERE TO SEE THIS HOUSE AT ALL! SO could I just get the money for it? Thanks for your time in this matter!! Hope to hear from you soon!
