Your HGTV Green Home Questions Answered
Thanks for posting your questions and being patient as we gear up for the online tour of HGTV Green Home 2010. Some queries we cannot answer at this time without giving too much detail away.
Q. Does HGTV Green Home 2010 have a basement?
-Ernie
A. Yes, indeed. The home features a very large unfinished basement.
Q. Can the basement or tower accommodate a bedroom?
-Char
A. The basement is designated for the mechanical area and storage in this home and is not considered living space. The tower is probably a little small to double as a bedroom, but someone could certainly lounge there and enjoy a nap.
Q. What was Linda’s inspiration in decorating this home?
-LynnCoggin
A. Interior designer Linda Woodrum took her inspiration from traditional cottage style and added her own funky, modern twist. A recurring theme of circles and squares can also be found throughout the house.
Q. When will GH2010 tours likely be starting up in Plymouth?
-BBSteve
A. Tours will begin in mid-April. Check back for specific dates and times soon!
Q. When can we start entering for the contest?
-barbara crotzer
A. The giveaway entry period begins on April 16 at 9 a.m. ET.
Q. How large is the master tub?
-Ernie
A. The soaking tub in the master bathroom measures approximately 2 feet deep by 4 feet long.
Q. I would like to know about the fireplace. Is it wood burning with a gas starter or what?
-Linda
A. The living room features a gas fireplace by Rinnai.

There are two bedrooms. You can see that and more on the floorplan.

I thought that was kind of strange that BBSteve said they were the same price. I was born & raised in Taxachussetts, so I know what you are saying. I am surprised that most people haven't migrated out of there. No I am not surprised. Most of my uncles, aunts & cousins are still there! Thank you for clarifying the gas cost for me.
this house is wonderful and I would love to live there. It is in a nice community and I am very interested in the green movement, solar power, and renewable energy. Well done HGTV. I will be entering into the sweepstakes a lot!
It seems like the bus might come a little early for the parents' tastes… I have to admit, that did happen in my neighborhood when I was in middle school. My bus would come at some time like 6:35, but school didn't start until 7:35. My mom and I finally decided that it was better for me to sleep an extra half an hour and have more time at home, and she didn't mind the 5 minute drive. However, there is a bit of a difference between 10 minutes and 45 minutes between the bus and the parents driving….
I am so glad this is not a huge home. So many comments about this home not suited for a family of four or more but not everyone has four or more so it think this home is being built exactly for me. I love all of the ideas. Thanks for what is going to be my beautiful green home.
I love HGTV! All the homes are beautiful. The products used are top notch and the decorators do a fabulous job. I have been trying for five years to win a home. This is a dream of mine and I sure hope it is one of your great home designs. Anne from Connecticut
I love HGTV! The homes are all beautiful. The products used are all top notch. The designers are fantastick. I have been trying for 5 years to win a dream home. This would be my greatest dream ever. Thanks, Anne Mathieu, CT
The Green Home floor plan is awesome. Although only 2 bedrooms, the kids usually all camp out in the family room together. I only have one child so it would be perfect for me! I also live in Mass and a beach house would be a nice place for the family all to get together to enjoy some fun in the sun. I have been waiting for a Dream Home or Green Home to come to New England!
i love it just everything about this home is a dream the location is beautiful so the house will be gorgeous
Im with you. The home looks wonderful. My family of 5 wouldn't fit! But That doesn't mean we couldn't finish the basement If we won it.
Not to sound to uneducated but if your taxes are all payed do they consider bad debt as a factor against you if your name is drawn for any of the winning HGTV homes?
Darn! I was hoping for a tall man!
The pencils are so we can sign in when we take the tour I'm sure. Course, I'm in Kansas City, so probably won't make the tour. I love the area though.
Perfect size for my husband and me. This location is extremely close to where my daughter and grandchildren are and I would feel so lucky to be able to be around them!!!!!! Maybe God will give me this wonderful blessing so I could be a full time Mimi. How wonderful it is that HGTV is making a few dreams come true! Good luck!!!
the home is perfect for me,just me
I agree that gas heat is the warmest and best bang for your buck.

Dear HGTV,
I just checked out the floor plan of GH2010. I'm distressed to see that the master bedroom is on the second floor! You need to realizethat many viewers and dreamers are disabled and unable to climb stairs! Please keep this in mind for future green homes! I LOVED the fact that there weren't any stairs in the dream home!T hanks for giving us a chance to dream of living GREEN!

I hope it comes with money to help pay the taxes, otherwise whoever wins will not be able to pay the taxes and have to sell. If they are able to pay the taxes, then they really didn't need the house in the first place.

When will the sweepstakes for the green home begin?
My questions about the HGTV Green Home 2010 are?
1) Is thier a garage area with HGTV Green Home 2010
2) Is thier living quarter on the second floor of HGTV Green Home 2010
Thanks,
Deausie
Hi all, I love it just the way it is and I'm going to tri to win this one lol. I have family up there it would be great. good luck to all
I can't wait to see the home with furniture in it. It'll be interesting to see a "Cottage Style" interior. I vacationed many years on Cape Cod, and the most interesting cottages were built in the 1940's.
Although this is a Green home, I bet the community frowns upon clotheslines. Hanging clothes outside weather permitting saves quite a bit of energy.
How easy would it be to add a bedroom and bath to the first floor of the house? I am asking because if a disabled person won the house they wouldn't be able to get up to the bedrooms. Maybe a guest that came would be disabled and then where would they sleep? Something to think about!
Thanks!
is there a kids room with a red sox theme? that would be wicked sweet.
I love this house just the way it is, too. I'm very curious about the bedrooms and bathrooms, and can hardly wait to see the virtual tour. The fact that this cottage isn't really big, with a lot of rooms, works well for me. This house (as much as I've seen of it, so far) is enchanting and looks like a very comfy and stylish place to live. With the colors used downstairs, it would be especially fun to decorate for the holidays.
How many bedrooms? I love the exterior look of the home. Love the white picket fence and love the porch!
I am so excited about the 2010 HGTV Green Home Give Away. I currently live in Fall River, Ma. I have always loved the beautiful town of Plymouth. I dream about living in Plymouth. I would like to move from Fall River. Because of the poor economy I have lost 4 jobs in the last 5 years..and my salary keeps getting lower. I live in a small apt that is old and in need of repair. I would love to have a beautiful home so that my son and his family ( I have 2 beautiful granddaughters) can come to visit me (from Cleveland, OH) and have a nice place to stay in while they are visiting. I love the eco-friendly concept..especially the indoor air quality..I suffer with sinus problems, especially in the winter. And I really like the cottage design..I like the houses that have character and the cottage look is one that I have always admired. Anyway, as you can tell, I really want to win this house…it would be a dream come true. One last thing…I have always dreamed of living my retiremnet years in the town of Plymouth. Oh, I would be elated if I won. Thank you. Sincerely, Sandi
I can't wait to enter. I wonder what the odds are of them choosing a winner from Massachusetts?! And does it work against you or for you if you have your name on a mortgage already?
I would like to know more about the yard and landscaping. The house looks wonderful!!! ; )
I am more excited about this green home. Its on the east coast. It looks smaller then the others, I like that! I have always wanted to live in a green home. It makes me feel like Im helping the environment and also saving on expenses. I miss the seasons as well. Looking at this home and were it is located,it makes me feel homesick . Could you tell me if the home is going to have an alarm system, waterless tank, and other energy efficeint item? Also have you ever considered wind power. I heard it is great.
I'd like to know what Universal Design features are included in the home. Is the stairwell built so that an elevator could be installed later ? Are the bath walls reinforced to support grab bars later? Are the door sills, shower, etc built flush to accommodate a wheelchair or walker? Are all door handles and sink handles lever designs? Will the mud room or laundry have shoe storage and/or a low shower or large enough sink to wash a dog or clean mud off of kids boots?? Will there be screen doors and/or or can the mud room/family entry area be closed off from the main floor in winter as an air lock??
When is the next drawing on the Green home 2010 giveaway.? I am looking forward to winning that one. I have been watching and hoping and praying to win. Dream big because if your dream come true, you don!t want it tobe a little one. MARY.
I'm glad to know how popular this show is. It has been a favorite of mine for all the reasons you have mentioned. Seventeen years ago our builder who was a family friend left us with so many problems…we have had to make repairs from the first month of completion and every year since. Several of those problems are the type most people do not have for 15-30 years of a homes age. We are making extensive renovations this year. What I wouldn't give to have Mike take over!?!
Interesting that the rendering at this link http://www.hgtv.com/green-home/hgtv-green-home-20… is a mirror image of the actual built home — has the stair tower on the right side. Enjoyed the photo series. Through the windows by the fireplace it appears that a neighboring home has been built.
How many full bathrooms and how many half baths are there in this home. Looking great can't wait !!!!!
When does the Green Home contest start? I can't find anything that states it!
I dont unerd stand why the hgtv/greenhome dose not have a thred bed room what if there is moore then 2 people in your home and the loft is it big enugh to make a bed room out of how meany bathrooms dose it have . mary can you help us with this qustion thank you loved the green home of 09 and 08 I am sure that this one will be nice to
WOW !!! LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE FINAL STAGE OF THE GREEN HOUSE IN PLYMOUTH, MA. MARIE, SO CLOSE TO THE CAPE COD AREA, WHY NOT THE CAPE? !!!!!!!!!!
I grew up in the northeast and still have most of my family there. The 2010 Green Home is making me 'green' with envy and homesickness! I have a question about the porch roof: I'm fascinated it being lead-covered copper. I would be concerned about the environmental friendliness of the lead. Does the lead leach into the soil from rain and snow runoff? More information, please! By the by, even though shingle-style cottages were the inspiration behind the Green Home this year, I was taken by the surprising similarity between the Green Home and the Point Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro, California. Is there anything to the lighthouse look and the location of the Green House (coastal Massachusetts)?
i Alvin and janet Dean havi ben enter your sweetstakes for lot of years now we watch of showes and house hunters on hgtv we injojce them thank you Alvin Dean
I agree. It's a beautiful home in a fantastic setting. However, with only 2 bedrooms it isn't really designed for a family with more then 1 child; or, possibly 2 if you have children who would agree to share a room – good luck with those teenagers.
I wonder about putting an additional bedroom in the basement, but from the Q & A it looks like that may not be an option.
Me to Marie went to the mayflower 42 years ago would love to go back.
Does anyone know that fist "air" date and time for the 2010 Green Home Tour?
Am I the only one who has looked at the construction time-lapse photos? Not only have 2-story trees been planted so as to block the solar panels on the porch roof, but it certainly seems as if there were already other trees (possibly not on the Green House's property) that are also blocking the solar panels (see photos #169 & 172). Why did no one notice that before they determined the placement of the house? There seems to be an awful lot of open land between the Green House and the trees behind it (say where the white trucks are located in photo #160?).
The 2010 Green Home is Absolutely Beautiful!
Love the layout, design details, the builder did a fantastic job! I love it! Of course, I wish it had the extra bedroom…but it can always be added on some where if needed.
I can indeed picture myself living in this house, saving money by being green, the location and its history..,perfect!
