Why Only Two Bedrooms?

Good morning, my busy bloggers.

Keep those fabulous questions coming. It won’t be long now before someone wins this incredible home.

Did I mention before that I could move my family to the Pinehills and live happily ever after? I absolutely love the location. Remember, I live in gorgeous San Francisco, so it takes an awful lot to make me think of leaving.

Let’s get to this week’s questions.

Q. I love the recycled-magazine starburst mirror. How would I make one?
A. I also love that mirror and, as a crafter, I think you might be able to replicate the look with old magazines and a paper mache-like solution. However, it might be easier to buy one. The mirror was purchased at Peachtree Designs, a boutique on Cape Cod.

Q. Why does this house feature only two bedrooms? It just seems odd to me.
A. Glenn MacKenzie, our amazing builder, says that there are many two-bedroom living arrangements at The Pinehills. The lots that surround the Village Green are small by design and feature walking trails that connect the neighborhood directly to The Pinehills’ shops, stores, restaurants and services. A three-bedroom plan of this home is available, but then the owner sacrifices outside living space. The HGTV Green Home 2010 team decided that the outdoor spaces and gardens were a very important part of the design.

Q. What is the total value of the furnishings, including the artwork?
A. Furnishings and artwork are not separately valued. The total prize package is worth almost $800,000.

Q. I love the kitchen island decor, especially the iron containers. Where can I buy them? Also, what about the covered porch furnishings?
A. Interior designer Linda Woodrum purchased the vintage garden urns at the Plymouth shop Dovetales. The wicker furnishings on the porch are all antiques. (I need to beg Linda to come help me shop for great finds like these for my home.)

Q. You mentioned the lot size before, and I wondered if it was possible to fence it in, or would the owner face HOA issues? Would Invisible Fence be preferable?
A. HGTV Green Home 2010 is fenced on two sides. The owner is allowed to completely fence the yard, if desired. Invisible fencing is also an option.

Q. Can you provide a checklist of green features that resulted in HGTV Green Home 2010’s Gold Certification?
A. HGTVPro.com created an HGTV Green Home package dedicated to NAHB’s Green Building Standard and the eco features that resulted in the certification. Get Green Building Details

  1. I would simply pass out if I won this incredible prize. I can hardly dare to dream that I could be so fortunate. I have tried to find out what yearly property taxes and school taxes might be for this home and also I would like to know the total taxes that would be due on the winnings. Would it take the whole $100,000 cash or more? I'm sure everyone, who is not rich, is wondering about this. Does anyone know this information?
My husband and I have visited the New England states a couple of times and have dreamed of retiring there. That would truly be awesome.

  3. I was so excited to enter this contest, however, after reading stories from past winners, and their nightmares over the tax and other expenses which were more than the cash recieved, I am very concerned that I won't be able to really live the dream. Has HGTV come up with any advice for winners to be able to really be a dream winner?
