When considering Pennsylvania, remember that all but the southeast corner overlies the Marcellus shale, and that gas drilling is permitted in state forests as well as private land. In many cases, it's possible to own property but not the mineral rights to that property. If a gas company owns that right, it can use a rather invasive and demonstrably unsafe process to drill on that property. Ask the folks in Dimoch, PA. You don't even have to have a gas well on your property to have your water source contaminated. Of course, this is also true of parts of Colorado, where property values in drilling areas have plummeted. Maybe New Jersey is the best choice after all!
