HGTV Green Home Earns Platinum Status
HGTV Green Home 2011 recently received a Platinum LEED certification, the highest rating a home can earn within the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. In addition, the home also received an Energy Star certification which acknowledges its energy efficiency.
The LEED certification signifies that HGTV Green Home, with approximately 2400 square feet of finished space, meets rigorous standards for sustainable site development, water conservation, energy efficiency, materials selection, indoor environmental quality, proximity to transit and existing infrastructure and innovative design. Of the 9,812 homes nationally that have received some level of LEED certification (certified, silver, gold, or platinum), less than 25 percent are platinum homes. In Colorado where the home is located, 36 homes have earned the platinum rating. LEED for Homes, a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes, is a project of the U.S. Green Building Council.
The 2011 HGTV Green Home also achieved an Energy Star Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score of 38, indicating that it exceeds governing energy conservation building codes by 62 percent. For a home to qualify as Energy Star it must achieve a HERS score of 85 or lower. The energy star scoring system is based on an index established by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET).

You may like the DIY Blog Cabin better then.
They usually post the rules the same day that the virtual tour comes up…although if you watch carefully it may be up a day or two ahead of time as they change things over.
I'm back and I'm excited! Still loving the dream home and the sneak peak on the last blog topic that I missed…I was getting ready for my husband to come home…for those who were keeping us in their thoughts, I am happy to say that my husband is home safely from deployment!
Thank you Coop…I see that you have been keeping my dreams of a Disney Dream Home alive!

P.S. This home is going to make someone extremely happy!
I'm SO happy he is home safely! Please thank him for all he does for us. Also, a big thank you to you, too!
Glad to see you back Disney. Also happy to hear your husband has returned safely!
You keep getting my hopes up Coop. But alas Mary and Jack aren't helping you out!
Nice floor plans offered. Very flexible and they have features that bloggers have said they want.
Disney, Disney, give us our Dream Home, do! You'll look lovely in a Disney Home built for you!
Hats off to your husband for his courage, valor, and hard work on our behalf, and for his safe return.
Very excited about the new location of Green Home 2011. Cant wait to enter!!
Our Army Family, so good to see your name again. Hope all is going well for you and your family.
So glad your husband returned home safely. Prayed for him. Are you guys planning another trip to Disney?
So good to know you're back. Looking forward to reading all your thoughts on the Green Home.
Thank you for both the Disney thoughts as well as the welcome thoughts for him!
We do! We are looking at going in May…a great time to have fun as a family now that he is home.
Thank you so much! I was about to say Mr. Ed just being formal and then I realized that I would be calling you a horse…oops…I guess I will say thank you to Mr. Awesome Ed in Oregon…I am missing my Pacific Northwest right now! It is always great to be remembered!
Thank you so much for the thank yous to our family.
Thank you for the kind words.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for your thanks!
That's okay Disney. I am used to Mr. Ed. I usually just whinnie and say thanks Wilbur. If you are really missing the North West Rain you could always visit your sister. About this time of year I am sure she is getting Seasonal Adjustment Disorder and you could bring her a ray of sunshine. ^_^
So happy for you, Our Army Family! Don't let your daughters talk you into moving there, unless that's really the place you want to be.
You were missed, Army Family….glad to know you will be able to blog more now.( I spent some time on the Dream Home blogs, but all my time has been on Blog Cabin this year). I just happened to look in on the Green Home blog to catch up and saw your post ! Please thank your husband for his courage and his service, and we thank you all for your sacrifice…so happy Dad is home with his family.
That's very true…however, we met in the middle at a family reunion in Iowa last summer. We just planned this year's trip and of all places we are going to….(drum roll please)…Disney World- my husband was unsure on going back again after being there the last two years, but the rest of our Disney family is totally excited!
At this point, my husband is looking at staying in the Army for 20 years…so, we have a long wait before WE get to decide anywhere we move- haha. On the flipside, regretting not going down for the length of his deployment…it was the pits being here alone…so, next time he deploys we have that planned.
Ooh- I should check out the Blog Cabin…haven't been over there in a while. The location is great, but there are other aspects on this one that I am just not stoked on…maybe it was their ghost story they posted-haha. I don't know, I am sure it is under a fabulous renovation and I will have to check it out.
Thank you so much for your kind words on my husband's return.
Beautiful Miss Lessie (and anyone else who reads and wants to pop over)…you should check out my little writing project…it is still getting off of its feet, but when it gets more in the works it will have a lot more stuff within this area…although I am sure that you have been to way more places than me. http://www.ourarmyfamily.com
Missed the show on Saturday night…had to work a double shift. Love the online video tour but I am disappointed that there doesn't appear to be a bathroom on the main floor. Having aging parents that have difficulty with stairs, I find this to be a HUGE flaw in the design. Hopefully, I misread the floor plan and there is a bathroom somewhere???
As a plumber of 40 years I can not tell you how good it is to see a home like this being built you have to be in this business to get the full impact it has on our world thank HGTV.
IT IS SO NICE THEY DID AND AWESOME JOB!
I just read the Green Home got the platinum award! The highest award you can get for energy saving! That is so amazing and such an accomplishment! You all should feel very proud! Thank you so much! You are starting a new wave to the future! A better, cleaner, healthier planet Earth! This is so huge for all man kind! Not only would my family be blessed but we would be honored to live in your home.
<3
I just read that the first month's electric bill was a wopping $6.00! I would take a green home over a dream home any day.
My blood runs green with envy for this house! I love it. This would really take the guess work out of trying to decide where to relocate our lives – Is the winner randomly drawn? Or is there someone i can talk with about how beneficial this could be to the rest of my life?! Come on you guys! I'm a young and innovative ceramic/metal artist in NC that would be forever greatful for a dance under green lights with Lady Luck. I'm dying to be inspired! Show me Colorado! Interview me, I dare you – you'll see – it'll be amazing
man this is sooooo cool!!!! I'm sooooo impressed about the platinum LEED status of this home!!!! This is a really awesome accomplishment by HGTV and team!!!!! whoever wins this home will be incredibly blessed with such a earth-friendly home!!!!!!! B)
