You’ve been requesting new time-lapse photos and I am posting this afternoon to fulfill your request. Check out the latest pics from August. The construction of this home is moving at lightning speed.

Today, in honor of all things eco-friendly, we’re giving away a brand-new state-of-the-art vacuum cleaner. Read editor Jackie McGilvray’s informative review, then answer this question by Saturday, August 7, at 12 a.m. EST.
Question: What is your favorite energy-saving product?

I recently tested Panasonic’s new Dual Vac upright vacuum. I own two Border collie mixes that shed like crazy; the vac sucked their hair off the carpet in just one pass. My patterned sisal rugs don’t always show dirt (the reason I own them), so the vacuum’s dirt sensor, which detects the presence (or absence) of dirt particles, proved helpful.

The extendable wand worked well and reached high and out-of-the-way places. The Dual Vac comes equipped with handy wand attachments including an upholstery brush and a crevice tool. All worked well. If I could improve the Dual Vac, I would add a handle to the canister so the user can pull the vac along as she cleans.

The dirt cup and filter are easy to remove and clean but somewhat of a challenge to reattach. I’m sure with a bit of practice, reassembly will be a snap. The Dual Vac left my floors dirt-, dust- and pet-hair free, thereby improving the air quality in my home.

Hello Dream Home fans!  It looks like some of you keen eyed readers have already discovered this, but I wanted to formally announce some of the upgrades we made around here recently.  This morning we added the Intense Debate application to all of our HGTV blogs.  There are a bunch of new features to the comments area that Intense Debate brings to the table.  You’ll notice that comments are now paginated as well as being threaded.  Hopefully this will alleviate some of the confusion we have where the page scrolls on for days and days.  You can also subscribe to posts by email, as well as comment by email.  It also adds the ability to report individual posts to us.

You’ll notice a few login options at the bottom of the page.  You can login with an Intense Debate account, created at http://intensedebate.com/signup, your Facebook account, a Twitter account, or OpenID.  We’ve also gone ahead and left the old method of posting, you just have to supply the same fields as always – Name, Email and an optional website.

Our hope is that all of these features will let all of your take your already passionate comments to the next level.
