Here’s what David had to say from the set:

What did you think of the premiere? Whose design deserved to win? Did the right person go home? Weigh in in the comments below.

  1. Yes, the video is not playing after the ad. Very frustrating! That said, it's great to see Dan and Hilari again. Would love for either of them to actually get thier own shows. Each has something unique to offer. If Hilari doesn't win, I'd still love to see her as a "guest" somewhere– a big part of the reason Danielle's season 7 pilot was so fun to watch was because Hilari's comments & antics added a playful vibe.

  2. I am ashamed to admit that I forgot just how good Dan was. His room was terrific and convinces me that he is the odds on favorite to win it all. (He should have won the show his year and not that sad sack Antonio. What a disgrace that was.) Hilari will probably be Dan's biggest competition. I like Leslie but I don't see her making it to the end. Tom and Josh will be the next to go, I think.
Sparkle Josh, by the way, is certainly entertaining, but I wish he'd stop talking about himself in the third person. And I laughed out loud at Hilary's comment about 'Sparkle and Darkle'.

    • I don't see how anyone could forget how great Dan was. I have been thinking about it every year when DS comes up. Dan should have won. His room was far superior to Antonio's. Hopefully he wins this time, although he won't get his own show, which I think is a shame.

  3. I thought Kellie was good on Season 6, but on this episode of All-Stars, her ego got the best of her, and her room was horrid. Sorry, Kellie. I'm a fellow Edmondite, but you really deserved to go home on that. Plus you didn't follow David's design instructions. I was disappointed in her poor performance–on every level. She'll bounce back.

    • I agree about Kellie such a ego! My daughter & I were rooting for her but as the show progressed we could not have agreed more with the judges choice to send her home. She has changed in the past year to think she is "ALL that". I was horrified at her prideful remark to Hilary. As if she was so much more experienced over the course of a year?!? Kellie a little humble pie will do you some good.

  4. I wish this site would have some photos or videos of this first episode of All-Stars so I could have a better picture in my mind of each designers work. Just relying on my memory, I'd have to agree that Kellie was the right choice to go home first. She seemed to totally ignore the guidelines and focus of this challenge throwing caution and common sense out the window. It seemed as if on purpose. And even though I don't care for Hilary, Kellie sure picked the wrong person to be nasty to at the end of the day. Again, as if on purpose. I mean, What was her point?!? So I think that Dan, Tom and Leslie are my choices for now. I'm still watching the program at any rate. After my disappointment with the judging in this season's Design Star.

  5. I am so excited about Design Star All Stars! And thank you to HGTV for putting it on your website. Although, it is so embedded it is a bit difficult to find and there are myriad buffering problems. I had to keep starting over but finally made it through.

I love Dan. Dan is the sure winner of this competition. I predict he will win every episode, he is so talented and has really stepped up his camera challenge. I don't think Dan should have beat Antonio, though, I love Antonio! Bring back his show, please!

I really love Josh, Tom and Leslie. I think Josh will be eliminated next. He and Hilari have in common that they are all cute personality but not much design talent.

I was glad Kellie was eliminated first. I was not sure why she was the fan favorite in Season 6. She's whiny, her voice is irritating and her designs did not impress. She was particularly offensive this time around because of her over-confidence and her not following the rules of the competition – which is crazy! How much easier of a competition could they have had? All you had to do was shop! At the most fabulous stores in America! I loved most of what the designers did, but was shocked when David said it was $2,000,000 worth of merchandise! These rooms should have looked a lot more opulent and luxurious.

    • I think Kellie won fan favorite because many viewers, like myself, did not start proactively voting for Mark until after his elimination.

  6. Please Fix the video!! No matter how many times I restart, it stops at 25 minutes in, and I can't see the final designs. So frustrating!

  7. Certainly two million dollars was not actually paid for the furniture! With all the advertising the design center got, they must have loaned the items to HGTV for the competition….with two million being the estimated retail value.

  8. So fun! It was nice to see a group who were so comfortable on camera and also with the intensity of the challenges – it was great to see focus and good ideas right from the start. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes to everything David said about everybody. Personally, I thought Tom had a sophisticated, beautiful, nuanced room – totally understood his point of view as well – the room did translate well on camera for me. Hilari and Dan did great showcasing their POV too. Great start!

  9. I love the idea of bringing back memorable designers from previous seasons of Design Star to compete. An idea I had (before hearing about All Stars) was to bring back all of the 2nd place finishers from previous seasons to give them another chance at being the Design Star, because many of them were as good as the designer picked to win. However, logistics would probaby make that unworkable and I think the designers picked were all strong choices.

  10. In the 1st episode I think Dan's dining room was the best design and clear winner. The middle three of Tom, Leslie, and Hilary all did well but just didn't stand out enough to win. Sparkle Josh is a real character and given the fact that he had to go back to the drawing board after hearing his wallpaper was out of stock, deserved another chance. That leaves Kellie, who was so intent on proving that she could do a better White Box challenge than the 1st time that she failed to pay attention to the actual instructions. Fatal mistake, because the 1st rule of Interior Design is to LISTEN to the client.
