Brother Vs. Brother Behind the Scenes: Episode 5

The on-call EMT has certainly become a well-known “crew member” this season on Brother Vs. Brother. Between Adi’s leg, Rick’s fingers (not shown) and Eric’s head, the injuries have started stacking up pretty quickly.

Brother Vs. Brother Episode 5

While trying to remove a glass cube from the kitchen wall, it explodes on Eric.

If you saw our last “Ask the Producer” post, producer Loren Ruch reiterated the importance of safety on set. Although an injury-free season is the ultimate goal, construction is a dangerous game. Why has this season been so injury prone? “They’re fighting so hard that they’re sacrificing their bodies,” says talent coordinator Mike Greggs.

Online host and older bro JD Scott talks to the brothers and the on-call EMT about this season’s injuries. See what they have to say about the minor setbacks that have affected both teams.

  1. With all of the team injuries on the current season's Brother vs. Brother renovation competition, it's possible a spin-off series could be produced titled 'EMTs On Call' and be promoted as a docu-drama. Or maybe a hybrid — Brother vs. Brother teams could compete for the best value-added reno while a team of EMTs would compete for best value-added emergency patchwork on the medical side.

Now it's just a matter of selecting the judges for each side of the dual competitions.

  2. With some of the strong paint colors chosen by both Team Jonathan and Team Drew in Episode 5, it seems that the teams' challenge slogans have gone from 'The Bold and the Beautiful' and stepped over a fine line into 'The Brash and the Brazen.'

I think visually appealing colors can be safe or out-of-the-box, just not out-of-this-world!

  3. Glad you mentioned it, DBCoop (re: the color choices). Had they known who was judging, and provided they watch Flip or Flop, they would have known to stay away from those "pop" of colors on the wall. From what I have observed, Christina and Tarek are very conservative when it comes to color choices on walls and exteriors. Lately it's been all about the light gray color palette. I know the Brothers are also careful with color choices too! While I love color, if I did flip I was stay more neutral (unless I knew the buyer). Even though I like pop's of colors, I did not like the "midnight blue" Eric chose for the Kitchen, or the "Laguna Blue" that Melissa chose. The accent wall in the kitchen should have been a light to medium gray to match the floor tile squares and counter top, not that dumb rug! That fluorescent turquoise color, in Peggy's dining area was too risky (though I believe the owners said "I like the color" as they entered their home. Still, it could have been toned down. Jonathan looked so disappointed!! Down to the final 4!! I am rooting for Adi or Rick :)

  4. Also, I couldn't help but wonder if Melissa purposefully painted the wall that Laguna Blue to mess up Rick because originally she said she was painting it Charcoal gray, which would have enhanced the fine job Rick did on the fireplace (except leaving the old transition).

  5. I just saw this episode and I'm DONE…. for most of the season, these players have been told "you have to finish or it will cost us the game"; you have to finish… this guy has been a loser, first cutting himself, he wasn't there to finish anything in that episode. Then on this he still didn't finish anything ..How many times was he told he has to finish? AND YET, they chose him over Peggy? Peggy's colors may have been risky but at least she FINISHED HER PROJECTS…. AND THEY WERE LIKED!!!!
