We are celebrating spring with a month-long photo challenge! Share your pictures every day and tag them with #HGTVSpring and we’ll share our favorites.

  • Share the Love

Spring has sprung …and here at HGTV we are so ready to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh colors and textures, especially after a long, gray winter.

And from the looks of things on Instagram, you all are just as excited to welcome the warm weather season.  So we thought it would be fun to celebrate our favorite time of year with a month-long photo challenge.  For the next 30 days we’re sharing our favorite spring pics from you, our Instagram friends.

And here’s the fun part…each day has a new challenge:

The challenge has already begun, but it isn’t too late to join.

Four Easy Steps to Take the Spring Fling Challenge:

1)  If you haven’t yet, follow @HGTV on Instagram (we promise you’ll love us there too).

2)  Check the roster above (or on our Instagram feed) for each day’s new challenge.  If the challenge of the day is sunshine, then share your interpretation of spring sunshine, whether that’s a sunny meadow or an old milk glass you repurposed into a bright yellow flower vase.

3)  Most importantly, TAG your pic with #HGTVSpring.

4)  Be creative.  Have fun.  Find unique, clever, and interesting takes on the subject of each day’s challenge.

It’s that easy.  Just snap, tag, and share and each day we’ll feature our favorites.  Not only is it a great excuse to take a “sick day” and go to the park (as long as your boss isn’t on Instagram), but if you’re featured, you get HGTV “cred” and the chance to impress all your friends!

So put on your artist’s hat and bring us back something beautiful.

Happy spring snapping!

Last year we brought you a sneak peek of a hot, new reality competition, Flip It To Win It.  Now the show’s back with a full season of NEW episodes (Tuesdays 11/10c) to take you on the ultimate flip adventure.

It all starts at the steps of the courthouse with six teams of expert flippers in a bidding war for three abandoned homes.

Expert flippers go head-to-head in HGTV’s “Flip It To Win It”

And here’s the kicker….it’s all sight unseen, they have no idea what they’re getting themselves into. When the dust settles…three auctions are won, three houses get renovated, and three finished homes compete on the market for top dollar. In the end, we get to find out who took the biggest risk and who came out on top.

But the real fun is following the teams as they take high-stakes flipping to a whole new level.  These guys and gals really know their stuff:

TEAM JOSH and ALISHA
Josh Michaelian and Alisha Karandikar are a force to be reckoned with. Josh developed a passion for real estate at a very early age learning from his father and uncle how to buy, renovate, and flip properties. When not busy buying property you can find Josh spending time with his family or dining at one of his many favorite restaurants.

Alisha is a Bay Area native and has assisted hundreds of buyers and sellers in her 17 years as a realtor. Alisha’s success comes from her genuine love of helping people with one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Alisha is also the mother of 3 wonderful kids, loves sports and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

TEAM JOSH and ALISHA

TEAM BEAU and GREG
Beau Eckstein and Greg Cromwell are personal friends as well as business partners for flipping real estate. Beau Eckstein is a licensed real estate broker and managing director of a private money fund, which lends to other house flippers.  His real passion lies within his company, SFR Ventures, Inc., which is focused on designing, developing and renovating properties throughout the San Francisco Bay area.

Greg is a contractor and owner of Naked Construction for the past five years and has been living in Concord, CA for 29 years. Greg specializes in complete house transformations and has a keen eye for design.  Before embracing his career in real estate renovation, he was building custom motorcycles and attended the police academy. Beau and Greg share a passion for sushi, weight lifting and mixed martial arts.

TEAM BEAU and GREG

TEAM MIKE and MANLY
Manly Danh and Mike Bui are masters in the world of real estate. These young guns are at the top of their game with almost 20 years of real estate experience between them.

While Manly oversees sales, real estate development and manages a portfolio of investors throughout the world in real estate investment opportunities, Mike is focused on hunting for great real estate bargains, buying, remodeling and selling them for top dollar.

TEAM MIKE and MANLY

TEAM DOM and KRISTA
Krista Garren and Domenique “Dom” Montes have a passion for real estate and renovation.  Through their company, Funders Group, they are purchasing and renovating homes from California to Washington, Arizona to Florida.

Krista is the real estate hunter and loves to find a diamond in the rough, while Dom and his crew renovate, turning every house into a home with sophisticated and luxurious touches house hunters love. When they’re not busy flipping homes, you can find Krista at the stables riding her horse and Dom relaxing at the gym!

TEAM DOM and KRISTA

TEAM TODD and MICHAEL
Michael is the numbers guy and worked with two of Silicon Valley’s largest brokerages; Grubb and Ellis and CB Richard Ellis. Michael researches available homes using online resources only he understands.  He’s the mad scientist of foreclosure evaluation.

Todd is the shark at the auction with over 15 years experience building, remodeling and selling residential and commercial real estate.  For years he built high-end homes and knows exactly how to bring those luxury finishes to every home he buys.

TEAM TODD and MICHAEL

TEAM RICK and VINNIE
Realtor, Rick Kaluza and contractor Vinnie Sebastiano have over 30 years of real estate and renovation experience between them. Both of Italian decent, Vinnie is originally from Bensonhurst Brooklyn and Rick is from the San Francisco Bay Area. Brought together by a mutual friend, the late Rich Manfredonia, a major figure in San Francisco construction, they formed an unbreakable partnership. Together they bring their expertise and relentless work ethic to a business where only the most determined succeed.

While Rick is a master of the real estate market, Vinnie is the king of remodels. Together, they are untouchable when it comes to maximizing profit from the highest quality renovations. There is never a project too small or too big (for these meatballs) and everything they touch turns to gold. When they’re not buying and selling homes you can find them enjoying food and drink with friends and family at their local neighborhood San Francisco restaurants and watering holes.

TEAM RICK and VINNIE

This is one you don’t want to miss!

Earlier this week, “Tonight Show” anchor/funny man, Jimmy Fallon publicized his definitive “list” of Olympic superlatives (although I’m doubtful of his chances to get Olympic Committee approval any time soon).

Watch the hilarious clip here.

Among the outrageous titles (Pierre Boda – World’s Tallest Jonas Brother, Steven Holcomb – Most Likely to Find an Old Hot Wing in his Pocket)…American snowboarder, Chas Guldemond, was voted Most Likely to Host an Interior Design Show on HGTV.

Oh Jimmy, you are crazy, crazy!

But while we wait for Chas to call, we thought it would be fun to turn the tables.

If HGTV could host our own version of the Olympics, who would be on the Design Dream Team?  Tell us your team picks in the comments below, and in the meantime, check out the work of these potential “hopefuls.”

Guest post by Olivia Carrino

My name is Olivia and I am the PR Coordinator for Shopbop (the premier online shopping destination for what’s new and what’s next in fashion and style) and our new men’s shop, East Dane, which recently held a photo shoot with Anthony and John of HGTV’s Cousins Undercover.

I also happen to be Anthony Carrino’s sister, which made for an interesting intersection of personal and work life!  The photo shoot was an incredible experience for everyone involved.  On shoot day, both our men’s and women’s fashion directors, photographers, and assistants were all on set; as they say, it takes a village.  What made the whole experience so unique was the fact that it was truly a family affair – I got to work side-by-side with my brother, our parents, and my cousin in a way we’d never done before.

On the set of the East Dane photo shoot

As everyone who watches The Cousins has come to know, our family is a bit boisterous, so it made for a comical day.  Of course, my mom showed up with a gorgeous homemade sour cream coffee cake, which was devoured (rather quickly) by the team and the guys on the job site.  And since the photo shoot was taking place at one of Brunelleschi Construction’s (The Cousins company) project sites, 8 Erie, my dad was there supervising the work, but also managed to sneak away to the groomer and get a nice hair cut.

It was one of the coldest days of the winter (though since the polar vortex we’ve had to reconsider what we classify as cold!), so everyone was bundled in their warmest winter gear. We also brought in some heavy duty space heaters which turned the inside of 8 Erie into a pleasant work space (and of course Anthony, John, and my dad tried to buy the heaters for future projects).

One of the best parts of the shoot was when the whole family got to jump in to some shots, creating some adorable family pictures that we’ll all cherish for a long time. Not only was it interesting on a personal level to see my two worlds collide, but the intersection of fashion and construction made for some incredible photos and a wonderful shoot day!

What is a Pin Party?

If you watch HGTV regularly or follow us on social media, you’ve probably learned by now, folks here love a good party.

Pair that with our latest social media obsession, Pinterest, and an HGTV Pin Party just seems like a natural evolution.

A few common questions we always seem to receive when we host a pin party are “What the heck is it?”  “How do I join?” “Is this an actual party at HGTV?”

All fair questions.  When you think about it…really, what the heck is a pin party?

Let’s start with the (very) basics.
If you haven’t joined Pinterest or if you’ve heard about it and just haven’t taken the time to explore…stop reading and go, go, go…now, now, now!  You can always come back to this.

But if you’d rather “know before you go,” here’s a quick primer.  Pinterest is an amazing photo-based platform where you can collect and share (“pin,” “repin”) any content that interests you.  Into mason jar décor?  Pin photos of projects you discover from websites or repin photos from friends who also love mason jars.  Is travel your passion?  Follow other pinners who love travel photos…or pictures of babies, cats, or babies napping with cats.  The possibilities for pins are endless.

After you have joined and explored the wonderful world of Pinterest, the next very important step that you should complete is (gratuitous promotion in 3…2…1…) to follow HGTV.  And that should bring you up to speed with your fellow HGTV pinners.

Now, back to HGTV Pin Party 101.

First things first…what an HGTV Pin Party isn’t.

“Am I coming to HGTV for a party?”
Ok, so how amazing would that actually be?  If I didn’t already work here, I would LOVE an invitation to a party at HGTV.  Imagine mingling with the likes of  Candice, David, Drew, Jonathan, Genevieve  (PS.. I’m still star struck by these guys, they are incredible).

While we love you all and would love to throw the party of a lifetime at HGTV’s campus, we simply do not have room for over 98 million viewers.

An HGTV Pin Party actually happens on Pinterest in real time and usually centers around a central theme, such as holiday decorating, HGTV Dream Home spaces, weekend crafts, etc.

“How is an HGTV Pin Party different than any regular day of pinning?”
This is probably the more obvious (and frequently asked question), especially if you’re an experienced pinner.

An HGTV Pin Party is special because…

  • We “invite” industry leaders to log on and chat about the content we pin.  At any given party, you might get the chance to chat with someone like HGTV host, David Bromstad.  Or get handmade holiday ideas from our resident crafting expert, Marianne Canada.
  • And in the case of very specific themes, like holiday decorating, it gives us the opportunity to share all the things we’ve been so excited to work on this season.
  • Plus, we just love pinning and chatting with you in real time.  Your instant feedback on our projects is extremely valuable!
  • And lastly, do we really need a reason to throw a party?  Just join us and have fun!

That brings us to the real nuts and bolts…“how do I join the party?”

Here are 5 easy steps to join an HGTV Pin Party:

1.  Watch for promotion of the party on Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook (or bookmark this article as I’ll be updating our party schedule here).
2.  Click on the special link we provide.  This will lead to the “party” board that we create specifically for the event.
3.  Click “Follow” to join the board.
4.  On the day and time of the party, log on to Pinterest and click on the party board.  You are now ready for the pin party.  All party activity will take place on that board, so keep your browser there.
5.  Then just repin, mark favorites, and leave comments or questions for the HGTV experts.  Enjoy!

IMPORTANT Things to Remember:

  • Multiple pins will be shared from HGTV during the party.
  • Many conversations will happen in real-time under each individual pin.
  • You must refresh your browser often to see the latest pins and conversations.

Really, it’s just that simple.  We’ll do all the pinning.  All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the show, and repin/comment on what you love.

See you at the next party!
