Hi, just wanted to add another thought to a future dream home. Nevada County, in Northern California is beautiful. You may have looked here. If so thanks for looking, if not, take a look, we're special.
Thanks

Ok, so now i am more confused than ever. it almost looked like a beach of some sort that he was sitting on. I tried to identify some of the trees, but no luck from the video. lol, oh well i guess i'll just have to wait till they announce it. my original guess was alaska, but that didn't look like alaska to me. hmmmmm???

Hi, This is my absolute first post! I hate to go back to that stupid scrabble board but the word on the top is coaxial as in coaxial cable. It is not coastal. Could it be one of the worlds longest trams located in New Mexico? That word kept bothering me on that board, like why would you even come up with the word coaxial? think of riding on a tram and the views (or two with fantastic views, imagine looking out all those windows for your perfect view!)

Hey
From the looks of the background and trees----(I'm really losts, now I have to start over!!HA!!)Looks like Louisiana or South Carolina, Mobile,Alabama, Georgia----GEEEEEE!!!!! OK Jack--I was hoping for a little help here!!! Dee Hamm
Posted by DEE HAMM – March 2, 2007 5:14 PM
Well, to me this rules out anyplace in the Northeast or he wouldn't be sitting in front of beautiful green lawn. We're all covered in a mess of snow/ice/slush anywhere north of NYC and vicinity.

I can't watch the video, buffering 2%
Buffering 6%, 7%, 2%, 7%, 9%, 2% and on and on

Rules out the anyplace on the NE or where the trees are still bare. Must be down around North Carolina, no?

How about Northern California... on the landing there is a light hanging down made out of a old wine barrel. Could it be Napa.... wine county?

Cutie Pa'tutti Jack-ie boo-boo-pee-do! I'll take fries with that please! Mama Mia! I talk with my hands to Jack! Don't look like Alaska! Boo-hoo! Washington State? Oregon? I could not hear a word he said... anyone else? Looks like maybe Arizona? He's tanned too! "Dessert! Oops! I mean Desert! Hmmm... Jack just might be the last Coca Cola in the desert!Fursure! You're a big tease! What the heck kinda clue is that! LOL! Your sooo bad!
Posted by Charlotte – March 2, 2007 5:24 PM
Oops... I must have been wrong with Greenville Maine (Moosehead Region) because it is 22 degrees there today and Jack is wearing no jacket.... I'm gonna guess somewhere in Hawaii....
Posted by SonjaKay – March 2, 2007 5:32 PM
Lets see, the soil is grayish there are hills in the background Jack is sitting on some wooden trim or something the ground looks like it's already been leveled with heavy machinery (some little twigs/roots sticking up). What exactly is breaking ground.... is it when they start digging out for the foundation? Just thinking out loud here.....
:o)
And, since Jack himself reads some of these, I must say IS he cute or what??? He is always dressed so nice and I love his necklace. ;o)

No coat,green grass,it isn't in Wyoming!
Posted by Rexine – March 2, 2007 5:42 PM
Hey Jack, I just viewed the video postcard. Judging by the greenery and your shirt sleeves, the 2008 DH won't be North, unless of course this video was done earlier in the year. I'm still sticking with ARKansas based on the scrabble clues. Am I right?
Posted by Bobbi Hillebert – March 2, 2007 5:43 PM
I just watched 'Hello From House Planner Jack Thomasson'. It looked as if a North Carolina Trout Stream was behind him. My guess for the location of the 2008 Dream Home is Cherokee, North Carolina.
Posted by CarolGene Good – March 2, 2007 5:48 PM
My next guess for the location of the 2008 Dream Home is beside a Trout Stream located somewhere along the Parkway in North Carolina.
Posted by CarolGene Good – March 2, 2007 5:50 PM
those are cotton wood trees, must be on a lake in kansas.....highway in the back ground looks like lake wilson area!
Posted by cindy – March 2, 2007 5:53 PM
Galveston Island, Texas. Definitely coastal, warm, fishing, island, unfortunately it's in hurricane country. I'm still throwing out guesses...
Posted by Jennifer M. – March 2, 2007 6:04 PM
I have no idea why (other than it looks familiar in the background), but I think it is Dana Point, CA.
Posted by Melinda – March 2, 2007 6:05 PM
FCOLE,
I still say that it is Lawrence, Kansas or at least in Douglas County, Kansas!!!! Liz
Posted by Liz Simons – March 2, 2007 6:10 PM
Actually, they have buffalo on Catalina Island. And it is great for fishing and other recreation! Just beautiful, but not too far from the mainland. What a dream that would be for me as a CA native of living in Illinois!
Posted by Melinda – March 2, 2007 6:12 PM
I'm still gonna go with the Ozarks!
Posted by Tina – March 2, 2007 6:14 PM
Let me clarify myself.. I believe that it is either Lawrence, Kansas or Clinton, Kansas... both of which are located in Douglas County, Kansas

Elk City State Park is located in the Osage Questas of southeastern Kansas, where thick oak-hickory woodlands meet rolling meadows of big bluestem and Indian grass. The State Park has a full complement of camping and boating facilities, but it is perhaps best known for its hiking trails. The park itself boasts 4.5 miles of trails, and the Army Corps of Engineers manages the scenic Elk River Hiking Trail covers 15 miles from the west edge of the dam to the Highway 160 bridge on the Elk River. I think Kansas is the HGTV 2008 home location!

Am sure that even if not in Wash. Where ever it is will be beautiful. These things happen if you have unlimited resources.
Love, peace and joy to all.

I'm with Sharon. It's not just the "eye", the book, the moose head. Manchester, VT is home to Orvis' flagship store. When it comes to all things "fishy", Orvis is the place to be. Manchester is also home to the American Museum of Fly Fishing. Vermont has some beautiful lakes,(Lake St. Catherine isn't too far from Manchester) lots of Moose and great skiing.

Posted by Kathy – March 2, 2007 8:03 PM
I think it's New Hampshire. NH is alive with moose crossing signs...although i have yet to actually see one. it has lots of fishing and one of the scenic views from the 2007 house had lots of pine trees--something in abundance in NH. The scrabble game says "cold" and it sure is cold up there.

The house is clearly located in Corona del Mar, California overlooking the coast.

Looks like it is in an area where you would be glad to meet your neighbor. How exciting! The traffic in the background lets you know it is close to a city that is busy. I still think the Dream Home of 2008 is in the wonderful state of Kansas!
Posted by Rebecca Hendrix – March 2, 2007 8:29 PM
Looks a little depressing with busy street in background. That being said. I am hoping for Michigan.
Posted by steve – March 2, 2007 8:34 PM
Who wants to hear traffic in the background. What is up with that. So far, I do not really like the new site.
Posted by KLM – March 2, 2007 8:40 PM
I had problems hearing the video too driving me crazy, it was buffering back and forth also. I thought it was probably my old computer. All I could see was him sitting on a pile of wood with the blueprints rolled up beside him. And the video moving o so sloooooow! and no sound!!!! Talking about a tease. I'd like to take that blueprint and smack him a good one. just joking of course. honey U R driving me crazy! I tell you! But since some of you have had the same prob. maybe it's an intentional clue. you all are talking about a warm place. they could have shot the video on the land earlier in the season. Maybe it is warm. MAY BE NOT.. The quiet video clue could be that It's a quiet serene place maybe with little to be heard & a little bit more land perhaps or they didn't want us to hear the background noise because of certain sounds like rivers, waterfalls or ocean certain animal calls that could have gave up the location. just guessing though. OH YES PEOPLE I was just thinking one of the clues was "beyond the scrabble board". Maybe it ain't AR kansas. sunflowers grow everywhere and they are pretty in any decor.

Montana Would be a beautiful location to build the 2008 Dream Home. My self! I was born in Oklahoma, but raised in Texas, I would have to by pass these two states. Kansas, no way,too each their own, but not my cup of tea. I tried to watch Jack Thomassons video, but could not hear any sound, so I do not know if it is my computer or Mr Jack Thomasson just has a very low low voice. I still love you to to death Jack Thomasson, what a hunk! I hope every soul on this beautiful earth the best of luck on the 2007 Dream Home. God bless each and every one, and the fantastic HGTV crew. And you too Mr Jack Thomasson. Please if you have some spare change in your pockets, please give what you can to feed the children foundation. What a beautiful dream come true for a hungry child...

IT looks to me like it is on the east coast. My first prediction was Maine or Massachusetts, but it could be more sothern along the coast.

Hi! I think the 2008 Dream Home is in Washington State, where the fishing is Great!
Posted by Brett – March 2, 2007 8:56 PM
I think it is Virginia! It is like heaven. They have beautiful mountains, lush green plains with rivers, lakes and the Atlantic Ocean all in one state. Virginia has something for everyone to enjoy. The four seasons add color changes year around. "The strip" could be located in Virginia Beach. If you are looking for a great place to live remember visit Virginia.

i think they are! lol
and all that flat but still with rocky little stream and soil. i also saw sevral cars pas by in the bakc ground so there is a busy stree about 100 yards away.

We recently rented a cottage in Northern Michigan where you could not see any other houses, other streets or anything other than beautiful woods and fauna. The stars out by the bonfire were incredible. There were deer and turkeys running around the yard all day. In HG 08-I see a busy street in the background and that really troubles me. On the weekends, I want to get away from it all and may find it difficult if there is a loud highway in the background.

Hi! I was thinking the 2008 Dream Home was going to be in Greenville Maine, because of the great fishing. I Know where the new Dream Home 2008 should be, In Eastport Maine! the most beautiful place in the U.S.A. The Dream Home 2008 is in Washington State!

O.K.,so wherever Jack is,the surrounding area looks sandy, green, and probably a fairly warm climate, considering his attire and tan. It could be the Two Carolinas along the coast, or Florida. Both Carolinas have pine cones, bears, fishing, and you can always water ski. In NC you ski in the mountains or water ski at the beach. As for the sunflowers, they remind me of the ones my grandmother always grew in the back corner of her garden, she called them black eyed Susan's.

In the video i have tried and tried to get it to work better still no sound. Still driving me crazy.I noticed he kind of looks barefoot and the ground looks light colored sort of like sand and behind him there are bushes/trees, a road and is that a sign or tarp on poles on his side of the road, just across the road is that a tall pole just at the fencing or edge of the lot there Maybe it's a camera I guess or street light. Then across the grassy lot I saw cars passing in the distance. Is the house on the lot he's sitting on or the lot behind him and across the road. Maybe the good view is in front of him. beach or a park.
Posted by carrie miracle – March 2, 2007 9:56 PM
Not Virginia. I don't think the rocks are Virginia rocks.
Jack is wearing sandals. I am thinking Florida now. White rocks and trees that are not that large. Hmmm, Lake George? Big Pine Key?
We need another post card from Jack...one hopefully with a postmark?

The background behind Jack is definitely in a warm environment.
Maybe its Houston, Texas! Its been very warm and sunny here. Plus, we have many trees that look like the trees behind Jack in the video.
But if its not....I would love to see a future Dream House built with a view of Lake Livingston, Texas. The Lake is large and beautiful. Its 1 hour away from the Harris County (City area)and 2 hours away from Galveston Island (Gulf of Mexico). The price of land in this area is still inexpensive. Maybe HGTV can actually buy the land they build their house on instead of leasing it. =) There's alot of development in this area at this time. The Dream House winner would not have a difficult time finding a job. The cost of living is low and people are very friendly.
I vote for Houston/ Lake Livingston Texas as the next Dream House location!!!!!!

Posted by Sharon – March 3, 2007 12:07 AM
Hmm. Major road in the background, near what appears to be a park. Green-warm. HMM again. I would still have to say that it is one of the states bordering Kansas. I would have to say you stumped me Jack.
Posted by Christina – March 3, 2007 12:10 AM
Could someone tell me please how they see the scabble board? Someone mentioned coaxial, wouldn't it be awesome if the new house had a computer room, with lots of games. I'm still going with Kansas, since thats what the board (that I can't see) says and the bison thing. With the fishing gear it has to be on the edge of a lake, wouldn't a boat and some jet skies be kewl too? Where ever Jack is it looks nice to me (smile). And did someone actually guess the lot # above??

I think the new dream home should be in beautiful Hill Country of Texas. It's not called the Hill country for nothing. We have running water, the guadalupe river, Medina Lake, and much more. There are lots and lots of tree filled acres just begging for a beautiful home to be place on the land. They will enjoy all the exotic wildlife, the birds, and most importantly the peace and quiet and all the friendly people of Texas.
come on down! and draw my name. Lord knows I need a new home ;)
Posted by Linda – March 3, 2007 12:32 AM
Well, unless that video was filmed a while ago, the trees in Kansas and further either aren't in bloom or are covered in snow. Serious disappointment. The more souther states of Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennesee and West Virginia have been eliminated by previous clues, and Georgia, South Carolina and Florida have been the sites of previous DREAM homes (Florida x 2), so I'm counting those out as possibilities.
I don't think the foliage looks right for the West Coast. That leaves Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama as southern possibilities with lots of foliage. With those in mind, I'd guess ArKANSAS, with its Ozark Lakes, Branson area with the indoor and outdoor games.
Otherwise, if filmed earlier, I'd still guess Kansas City or the upper peninsula of Michigan.
:-)
Posted by Lori – March 3, 2007 12:43 AM
Just a stab in the dark...but if you take the last part of the word in Winterpark and wrap it into Kansas...you get Arkansas....which is where I live...so of course it jumped out at me! White Birch trees grow everywhere...so that's not much of a clue. We'd be a great state lots of fishing and beautiful country! March 18th is my son's birthday, so what a great present our family would love this year's dream home!! LOL

i am sooo confused. jack looks like he is dressed for the beach. the sunglasses, the necklace (which i do not see in any of his previous videos) and the sandals/barefeet. the soil looks sandy and the rocks look porous. the trees look scrub oaky. all very gulf coasty to me. i did look up the soil in kansas. remember i am a big fan of this state. the soil is harney silt loam which can be greyish. we do not know when the video was taken. i looked up the requirements for the builder of the 2009 dream home and they need to complete the home by july 2008 which would mean the 2008 dream home would need to be done by july 2007. now i'm guessing but wouldn't that mean they would have had to start it awhile ago. and he says they are ready to start building. so maybe the video is old. if so could it have been last summer and then kansas would be warmer because right now it is cold there. maybe ar"kansas". i just can't seem to break away from kansas completely. maybe even new orleans. it would be nice for hgtv to be part of the rebirth of that city.
Posted by carolyn – March 3, 2007 2:01 AM
Looks like Lake Travis above Austin, TX, where the fishing is great, boatdock is below the house, and the trees have been shorn of their lower limbs. Lots of elegant gated communities up there. Also is out of tornado country.
Like others who have mentioned on this site, I have video picture but no sound. What gives???
Posted by Valerie – March 3, 2007 2:06 AM
I think it is the Florida keys. I am in Michigan and their is about 6 inches of snow on the ground here. All of the dream homes have all been rather secluded(no major highways). It is on the coast, are those mangrove trees? Why would they build a home so close to the highway? That is unless they had to...like in the Florida keys.
Posted by Wendy – March 3, 2007 2:21 AM
The video is telling me that the dream home will be in Louisiana, Arkansas or Mississipi....I have lived in many places and I don't think the new dream house site is in the Northwest, alaska, hawaii or the Northeast..having said that...I am thinking strongly that it's gonna be closer to where I live in Louisiana...Arkansas is probably a really good bet....this is so much fun...love reading all the blogs...Jack is a cutie, isn't he?
Posted by Kathy – March 3, 2007 2:22 AM
No luck with the sound! So I improvised... read Jack's body language, did my best to read his lips... I made out these sentences...
Hi! Jack Thomasson... I'm here behind...
"Lowe's Home Improvement Center! Somewhere along the West Coast... Busy picking up several special orders... we plan to incorporate into next years dream home! Be sure to tune in to HGTV March 18, to see live 2007 Dream Home Winners! And stick around for a chance to win $100,000.00. Come back every day to see fcole new clue posted.

I thought it was the Florida keys, but after looking at the video I know its not. Their is to much grass in the background. You dont see much grass in the keys. I think the trees could be mangrove or tropical. He is wearing a puka shell necklace, flip flops, and sun glasses...Its Hawaii. Would'nt that be wonderful?
Posted by Wendy – March 3, 2007 2:33 AM
I'm guessing that upstate New York may be a possibility. In the Buffalo/Rochester areas you can get to Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.
Plus you have relatively easy access to Canada for weekend trips etc. You could even fly down to NYC for a weekend when you want to experience the big city. Also easy access to New England States. New York has the most to offer

Hi Jack! Great to e-see you again. Thanks for the video. The only clue I gathered is that, the weather is warm where you are. Are you in California? Perhaps, I am just wishing that you are in California. The weather here is perfect today. Sunny blue skies. Not too cold and not too hot.Did anyone HIT The target? May we please see more of the surrounding area of the location whenever you get the chance to send us the next video? Many thanks. CALIFORNIA? PRETTY PLEASE!!!! I am cheering for CALIFORNIA! CALIFORNIA! CALIFORNIA! CALIFORNIA! Rah! Rah Rah! seez boom bah! ;-) For those who cannot hear the video. Try clicking the volume from the bottom blue bar of your computer. Click < , then click the volume. (it looks like an old fashined speaker, adjust the volume. If it doesn't work, Here's what Jack said, "he was often asked to look at the website about the 2008 HGTV Dream Home location and see what we're saying and... The answer is YES! He likes some of our predictions and some, they are considering for a future dream home, some are way off target and some are getting pretty close. He said, he is on the job site right now and will be breaking ground pretty soon but check back for the reveal of the HGTV Dream Home 2008 location! That's all folks! Take care you all! Warmly, Nida ;-)

Just because there is no snow...did anyone think he could have taped this months ago! They are looking now for the builder of the 2009 dream home! There are birch trees he is sitting in front of and they are found in the northeast. I am still sticking with Vermont around Lake Champlain.
Posted by Sharon – March 3, 2007 5:12 AM
Well, Watched video, looks like it warm where he is at so can't be in the northern states, too cold, so I am guessing its has to be in the South. How about Monterey, California.
Posted by p.ellis – March 3, 2007 7:09 AM
I am hoping that it is the beautiful scenic Idaho.

Well back to the book in the media room two areas are mentioned at first I was sure it was Vermont, but after more reviewing another city is named in the book Albuquerque...I believe it is in Tijeras, NM specifically the gated community Nature Point...check it out it is marvelous...inside and outside activities galore...www.naturepoint.com

Here is an idea. Several people from each state take note of any new construction in their state and report back to all of us if any look like the area where Jack was. You could narrow it down to only those sites that are near a highway, however he did not say that he was on the exact site, but near the site. How far is near? I agree that we do not know when they filmed this, could have been in the summer. New York possible, looks a little flat though. Looks more like Gulf Coast area, Texas? This is worse than figuring out my taxes.
Posted by Susan Rumsey – March 3, 2007 8:51 AM
Well, well, well, I can see an interstate or a very busy road behind you and looks like a golf course across the ditch behind you, and the trees look like they are more like the ones in the southern part of our beloved USA. On the scrabble board it says Kansas, so could it be Kansas City, Kansas/Missouri? So, since most homes have been built near a resort, my guess is that it is Branson, MO. TELL ME I'M RIGHT!
Posted by Glenna – March 3, 2007 9:16 AM
The traffic in the background and surrounding scene reminds me of a gulf coast road.
Posted by maryanne – March 3, 2007 9:27 AM
OK...now Im really confused! Some where warm that has moose. hummmmmm
Posted by Samara – March 3, 2007 9:39 AM
Jack, I had said Hot Springs Arkansas. You didn't have a jacket on, and it was chilly in Arkansas yesterday. Has to be further south. My husband says New Mexico. We will find out soon.
Posted by Donna – March 3, 2007 9:41 AM
I think that the dreamhouse is in the Catskill Mountains, in upstate NY or PA. Am I right?
Posted by Jennifer – March 3, 2007 10:16 AM
Yes ladies, I agree, Jack is charming... but wow - this video has definitely stumped me. Back to the drawing board... All the clues so far conflict with this video. Based on this clue I'll say Louisiana coast, but I really need to think this over again.

SilverBridge Oaks by Redding California. If it is around there you are doing a great job keeping it hidden and quiet. Anxiously awaiting more info. I am pretty confident that it will be in California this year, it is time.

I just bought 40 acres of land, on a mountain top, in NW Arkansas and will be building my dream/retirement home there. I still have several years of saving and working to do before I can make this happen. Whom can I contact to give me some ideas on how to make this dream of mine come true?

Okay so I am bummed it can't be Michigan due to the green trees in the background. He would have been surrounded by snow if he were here. I would also rule out anything in the Northeast and Alaska as well. It has to be by a beach of some sort where they must not get snow.

Hi! I think the HGTV 2007 Dream Home Is Awsome!!! It is truely A Dream Home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure the next HGTV 2008 Dream Home will be Dreamy 2. In Washington State! Thanks! Michele

After seeing the video, my guess is Bull Shoals Lake, Arkansas. Is this correct?
Posted by Nina – March 3, 2007 11:20 AM
Ok I can't hear a word Jack has to say in his video clue. My guess for the 2008 DH is Potter County, in Pennsyvania. It is beautiful country!
Posted by Lori Franklin – March 3, 2007 12:01 PM
Please, please, please let it be Vermont...so that when I win I would be exactly where I wish to retire. Grandchildren living in Middlebury, Champ, the Lake Champlain monster...serene, friendly, healthy Vermont that's my guess...
Posted by Irene – March 3, 2007 12:15 PM
I didn't see my previous post so here's my guess. I think the 2008 HGTV Dream Home will be in Smith Mountain Lake, VA. Beautiful lake, GREAT fishing, Blue Ridge as a back drop - absolutely eyepopping views! We have a lot there That is for our retirement dream home - would gladly give it up for your Dream Home!
Posted by Marge R – March 3, 2007 12:23 PM
This isn't Georgia, Alabama or Mississippi. Too much green and the leaves have come out too soon.
Probably further south, maybe south Florida.
Posted by Betty – March 3, 2007 12:27 PM
Adding on from yesterday. The fishing is great at Table Rock Lake, lots of bass, croupie and, I think, walleye. And at The BassPro store in Springfield (just an hour away from Branson), you can buy the Humminbird fish finder, along with all your other gear, AND there are Moose in the wildlife museum there. Branson is growing, hence the busy highway, there are rocks and sand and the climate is forgiving this time of year, can go either way. I`m a born and bred Missourian transplanted to Oregon (also very beautiful), but I`d move back in a heartbeat to a dream home in the Branson area. Don`t forget to include a bass boat in the give away.

Those shrubs look like eucalyptus or ficus... I'm saying California or Hawaii based on that...

SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA - Of Course!
More sunny days in the year than anywhere else in the United States, lots of white sandy beaches!
Posted by Susan – March 3, 2007 12:41 PM
Could it be Moosehead Lake, Maine? Only if that postcard was filmed earlier, as they have snow right now..Tricky??
Posted by Connie G. – March 3, 2007 12:51 PM
My original thought was in the mountains of Montana, however, after watching the video, I have another thought. Well, since Jack was on the beach and he wasn't wearing a jacket, my new guess would have to be in Honolulu, Hawaii or somewhere in Hawaii, since the weather there is so nice right now.
Posted by LaRavan Austin-Lathers – March 3, 2007 1:10 PM
From the looks of the surroundings it sure looks like Nassau in the Bahamas. Given there is no income tax it might be a great place to actually have a winner keep the house. Rocks look like limestone and the weather looks tropical.
Posted by Dave G – March 3, 2007 1:12 PM
Must be Moosehead Lake in Maine..
Jack.. You MUST consider Central Oregon for a future home. It's the gem of our state. Beauty, climate, outdoor living, property values (Bend tops the national list for home appreciation this year..), we have it ALL. The little town of Sisters is the prize though. Nestled at the base of the the Three Sisters Mountains, it'll steal your heart.

Jack, I knew that was you! I saw you in Daphne Alabama. It is very nice here this time of year. No jacket required! The fishing is great. It's green here all year and best of all we're coastal NOT coaxil! Of course you know that since you'e already here building DH 2008! LOL in my dreams! PS You ARE HANDSOME!

I am ruling out Pacific Northwest. Not warm enought for sandals and not a single fir tree to be seen. It doesn't make me think Kansas either. Sandals and necklace wouldn't fit in Kansas. How about Scottsdale, Arizona?
Posted by KJ Schuh – March 3, 2007 3:06 PM
There were some comments made of Jack with his tan and necklace......He could have just come back from his vacation trip or stepped out of a tanning booth.............would not use that as a clue to new home site...........stay more on track.

OK, so I'm becoming obsessed and too much time on my hands.A computer the information hwy is taking me on a real road trip. Winter Park, Florida would be a different perspective fer sure. They have kansas schools? What are thier mascots? Lots of fishing there. And Jack is wearing summer type clothes. Then again. On the other side of the ski resort at winter park, colorado? The hard course for snowboarding is Maryjane and the beginners course is said to be as flat as kansas. I'm so confused, lol. And where does Topeka come in? Is it true the first to call in with the correct answer during the show wins the $100K? Good Luck!

The scrabble board keeps confusing me it seems like its to obvious of a clue so I got to thinking about the game. Like who made it? why did they use it for a clue? So I typed in scrabble history and found out a man named Alfred Butts invented the game, in the 1930's during the depression, he was an architect, graduated from penn university. lived in NYC. So maybe the 08 home is in the suburbs of NYC. Close to water. in the article it mentions poughkeepsie and stanfordville, ny it was a very interesting story to me. I found it at http://www.upenn.edu/gazette/0901/fatsis4.html that should take you right to the article or close enough that you can find it. If you are interested.

I agree with renee. Santa Cruz, Monterey area in California. I really have no idea, I now live in Nevada, and was born and raised in California, so what the rest of this country looks like, I have no idea. But lookina the the video, I don't see any mountains, only trees...I landed in Miami once for about an hour, on my way to St. Maartin, and I didn't see any mountains there. I just want to win the Colorado house, it has mountains, and family just moved there..

my man and i think the 08 home might be in montana.at least its the dream we have.we are in the process of selling everything we own here in leesburg fla and have been for about a year. our dream is to live in a log home with a couple acres of land.we are going to north carolina.the mountains of murphy are about as rich as we can go.but... just in case we have entered everyday.and will for the next one too.never know!!! we think montana would be awesome.

I think you should consider the Big Island of Hawaii or something different from the ski resorts, lake areas, national parks-senic views.
Hawaii has many diverse climates, and offers many different varieties of sports for the recreationist along with it's dreamy views/climates.
I believe whatever location is chosen, should have viewers opinions on what makes this a dream home other than it's a giveaway.
Posted by nora scrafford – March 3, 2007 5:42 PM
So it is definately somewhere warm-ish... The pears all over the house may point to California in reference to that Bartlett guy? I used to wonder if the polar bear in the bunk room reinforced the guesses for Alaska but I'll have to say 'No' now. The things that strike me as 'out of place' in the home are the bridge, the blue prints and are there some 'dog' (book and print) hints? Eukanuba's in Portland this year. Also I hear tulips grow well that way. I still can't make out the word at the top of the scrabble board - I was getting Coareal but you say Coaxial?
It would be great promotion for the Katrina states if it's along there, though.
Posted by Kam – March 3, 2007 6:21 PM
I think it looks like a coastal area which seems to be close to a major road... My guess it looks to be a main road in the background with a park like setting.. Could it be a golfing community?

Hi Jack, I would like nothing better than you build a modest home, that I can afford to live in, in the middle of Tennessee around the Sparta area with plenty of land for my horses to roam and a large barn on the property. It would even be a plus if there was a running creek through the property that never dries up so the horses can have water to drink the year round. All the homes in the past have been beautiful elegant homes in some of the most beautiful places but not something that I, the average person, can afford to keep. A dream home to me, does not have to so large.

I hate to admit this--I'm losing hope for Montana! I have to go with my second guess--Seattle area. What a marvelous way to spend these last weeks of anticipation before the announcement!!

One thing for sure it has to be Kansas due to sunflowers are all over the dream home and on the table right behind the scrabble board. Kansas is known as the Sunflower State. The bird on the wall in the bunkroom looks like the Western Meadowlark, which is the state bird. There's a big Bison Head and a Moose Head in the bunkroom also, which Kansas is known for these animlas. The scrabble board has the word "eye" which Kansas is known for it's tornado's. Since I saw Jack's video obviously the house is somewhere near a main hwy, considering all the traffic that was passing by while he was talking. I'm thinking maybe I70 (Ceadar Bluff Reservoir between Ellis and Hays, KS). The scrabble board also has the word "coastal" which Ceadar Bluff is near a beautiful body of water. I would imagine alot of people in Kansas visit the resorts in Colorado (like MaryJane) since it's not too far. I know I would. :)

I posted this on the prior days clue page about 2 hours ago, sorry if this is redundant.
Sea World San Antonio is the "clue" from following the Moosehead link to Shopzilla, where if you read the whole page it includes a curious mention of "Sea World San Antonio" among the products See Moosehead site. Based on Jack's video postcard I was thinking central Florida or south Texas. Since I live in Pensacola now, I knew from the video it was not likely to be much north of me. As it turns out there is a San Antonio FL as well as San Antonio TX. However, the only Sea World San Antonio is in TX (who knew?) and not in San Antonio FL even though there are several Sea Worlds in FL as you'd expect.
Personally, I am still holding out hope to be in my Winter Park 2007 Dream Home during the 2008 contest. In fact, I will be out skiing at Beaver Creek during the Mar. 18 airing of this year's winner so I hope they can find me there if they want me on live.

Well it could be Hawaii. There is a famous Moose bar on Honalulu and also Leutenant Moose-military liason for Katrina and detectiveofthe Washington Beltway Sniper case has recently been promoted as a Security Forces Officer in Hawaii. James "The Moose" Karamouzis is the current Hawaii marlin fishing champ. Kinda a streatch, but from the video it doesn't look like anyplace far enough North to jave real moose and Kansas just gothit with snow a few days ago-so unless the video was recorded some time ago, it's someplace that's warm right now and possibly volcanic due to the sharp grey rocks.
Posted by clif hancock – March 3, 2007 8:14 PM
I am positive that it is not in South Florida as that is where I live and we have been in SHORTS and T-SHIRTS almost all year round except for just a few days here and there. Besides the clues don't add up.. Take care and Good Luck to the rest of you. I still believe it's going to be in Kansas!! Liz

Dear Sir,
I have watched dream home for several years and all I can say is "it's like heaven on earth". I have told my son so many times if only I could one day have a log cabin, it didn't have to be much just so it had a porch. My son and myself have come through a lot of tough times in life so the grandness of these homes just blows us away. I live in North Carolina, my son attends college at Mars Hill College (near Asheville). He has entered me in all the give aways, he doesn't let anything discourge him afterall thats how he got to college. He went to a private christian school on a clogging scholarship. They now are 13years of National Champs. I know I would never in a million years have a chance to win anything of that magnitude but it makes me feel better just to say there are people out there like me that would feel so privilaged to own something 1/10th the cost of these homes. You truly put your heart and soul in the design of these homes, and it gives people like me something to dream about when we go to bed so we can fall asleep and forget the worries of the next day. Thanks again for a peek of another dream.

There's a Moose Ridge new luxury housingcommunity in Alaska that I found on the web, but this place is warm and coastal so unless it is somewhere warm in Alaska I've never heard about Alaska is probably out. I'm thinking California may be likely as it isthe only warmish state I know of that actually has Moose.

Hi! I would just like to say that I love the HGTV Dream Home Sweepstakes! You give many families the joy of a brand new amazing, beautiful home. I would just like to say that instead of a big state as California, as beautiful as it is, I think you should build the next Dream home in Ohio. Even thought it may not be as bid, and stunning as California or pretty as Nebraska, Ohio has very homely, warm and inviting welcome to newcomers!
Posted by Seema – March 3, 2007 9:23 PM
I think the 08 Dream Home may be in Lenexa Kansas or either of these, Shawnee Kansas, Overland Park, Kansas, or Bloomington, Minnesota. But anywhere it is built,(even near a highway) it will be beautful and we are all fortunate to have a chance at it! Only in the great USA!

My ultimate dream home would be in Kauai Hawaii up in the more mountainous area but with an ocean view. It would also have an unattached guest house for all my family to visit as well as an outdoor kitchen and lounging area around my gorgeous pool and landscaped backyard with fruit trees and lots of native flowers.
Posted by Julie – March 3, 2007 9:36 PM
How about the Adirondacks in upstate New York?
Posted by Sharon Grey – March 3, 2007 10:00 PM
Washington State is a great area, there is a lot of coastal property, and around the puget sound (it's not as great as the actual ocean) offers some pretty spectacular views, it's within driving distance to just about anything, like rainforests or mountains you're never too far rom a place to eat or a movie theater, and the public transportation system (with some planning) will get you just about anywhere in the area, So my perfect dream home would be somewhere like Gig Harbor. Most likely if it's in WA it's going to be close to Seattle.
P.S. I just moved away from there for cheaper housing market, but would move back in a heartbeat if I had the means.
Posted by Tim – March 3, 2007 10:06 PM
No Snow!! Yahoo!!! and the trees don't all loose their leaves, at least not all of them, even better! There sounded like there was a lot of noise so it must be near a large southern city on the coast maybe on the gulf coast, Texas or Florida?

Looks like a warm southern climate to me and with all that fishing talk--maybe the Sportman's Paradise--Louisiana. Also looks like it could be in Georgia or near the Alabama Coast. They all sound great to me but that heavy duty traffic could be a bummer. I hope you're planning some kind of sound barrier or screening to tone down that racket.
Posted by Jeanne Marie – March 4, 2007 1:47 AM
Again, I'm having to reconsider.
I was SO SURE it was the Kansas City area, but if Jack is wearing mild-weather clothes and has been reading the responses, then his video has to have been filmed just this past week. That rules out cold weather anywhere recently. Also rules out anywhere where the trees aren't currently green and ON the trees. I almost feel back to square one. :-(
So, COASTAL = deep lake or gulf/ocean, especially with the fishing clue. So Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, California.
The Scrabble board clue: Only ArKANSAS could fit with the current weather. No leafy green trees in Kansas right now. There is a BLUE EYE, Arkansas, on the border of Missouri. That could fit with the scrabble board. It's just south of Table Rock Lake, in the Ozarks. Beautiful and green area. Looks like current temps there have been around 55-60
BUFFALO: There seems to be a Buffalo River south of Harrison Arkansas.
INTERNATIONAL: Can only guess the Arkansas International Airport in Blythevile, Arkansas. But, this is near a tri-state area, also near the Mississippi River. Could also fit for the "view or two" clue.
Evidently SUNFLOWERS are indigenous to Arkansas, too (didn't know that).
There is a Beaver Bridge in Carroll County Arkansas, near Beaver Lake. The bridge looked like the one in the media room. Also a Carroll County STAR Tribune, and looks like wheat is grown in Arkansas. Who knew???
On the other hand, the San Joaquin area of California, where they make wine (3Moose Wine Cellars) has very mild weather right now, the foliage looks about right (online), it's COASTAL, with views of the mountains looking east.
That's the best I can figure with that video. And that's pretty much stretching it. :-)
Posted by Lori – March 4, 2007 3:05 AM
I was having issues hearing the video, but from the looks for the breeze and the light sand on his left, the slightly matured lite scrub tree on his right, I would have to say he is near the ocean. I would guess pacific. Perhaps near northern California in the Crescent City area.

As I posted Friday evening, I cannot hear the video; I can only inspect the video. Until I can hear the video or a transcript of what he is saying is posted, I remain in ID. Further, there is no indication this was recently recorded. There are 7-9 major courses in ID. White sand is easily found in ID; Emmet has quite a bit. The video yields an interesting looking rock also. So, Island park and CDA are still of great interest. :)

Posted by Margaret K. – March 4, 2007 10:41 AM
I have to agree that it has to be close to the Lake of the Ozarks. Lots of fishing, great views and fun in and out!

Wow, lush and green! That is good. A good clue is that bus stop on the empty highway immediately behind Jack. It has thin supports and a bright blue roof. Does that type of bus stop look familiar to anyone? Not to me. This could have been taped any time, not necessarily in the current season. :)
Posted by AudreyMarks – March 4, 2007 11:06 AM
Looks like it could actually be in Oregon or maybe Washington. It's hard from the clip to try and identify the specific state.
Posted by Melissa – March 4, 2007 11:08 AM
I think a key clue is looking at vegitation around Jack in the video. I don't think those white-barked trees are poplars or birches or eucalyptus, I think that they are crape myrtles. If they are, that pretty much eliminates northern and midwest climates, (except for northern west coast) They grow in zones 7-9 which is most of the south and the entire west coast. Native to Asia and Australia, they require a tropical to sub-troical climate and are rampant in the SE coastal areas..http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ldplants/lain7.htm here's a pic, there are many varieties with much redder bark, but some are white barked as these are.

I COULD NOT HEAR ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY NOT???? ANYONE ELSE NOT HEAR IT???????? I THINK ITS THE LOCATION OF THE POSTCARD. I'D REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT HE'S SAYING.
Well, now I'll guess again. He's not north, unless it was earlier in the year, or somemthing? I wish it was Alaska. But with short sleeves and sunglasses, I don't think so. There could be a slight chance though. Maybe Kansas, South Carolina, or LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA!! Gonna have to do some MORE research.
Plus, there might be hills in the background, but he's either on sand or greyish soil. I think the house is going to be behind him. For Lake Tahoe...lakes have beaches too!!:)
Well, just gonig to wait for the next clue, if there will be one. Oh, and does anyone's blog screen go to the side at the very end??? Mine does. Oh, Well!
Posted by Sandy – March 4, 2007 12:01 PM
I think it is Sugarloaf key in florida. He has on a pair of flip flops, puka shell necklace, and sunglasses. He is also sporting a nice tan. I think the trees are mangrove or tropical. The ground looks sandy, and the stones are craggy like you find in the keys.

JACK:
I think that Its in Idaho or Utah they have places that look like that. that video was filmed a while ago, because it has older trees with older not spring leaves on it. I had problems hearing and seeing the video too driving me crazy, it was buffering back and forth. All I could see was him sitting on a pile of wood with the blueprints rolled up beside him. but I tried to study the trees. Thanks Jack for revealing a peek of DH 2008
Posted by Julie – March 4, 2007 12:33 PM
I CAN HEAR IT!!!!!!!! THANKS, FCOLE!!!! IF IT WAS YOU. YES!!!! Well, now all I need is for the blog screen to be straight all the way down.:) I can't see some of the other blogger's ideas!!!:(
I hope I'm close. I think its still Lake Tahoe. Although, I think it might be in Kansas, South Carolina, or any where in the south. Now I'm really not thinking Alaska. I'd be the one that Jack mentions being way off track!
Posted by Sandy – March 4, 2007 12:34 PM
Has anyone ever considered New Mexico as potential location for the 2008 Dream Home? Many people think New Mexico is just a desert, but towns located in the Sangre de Cristo Moutains, like Santa Fe, or Taos, have some of the best views of the mountains and climates of the states. I havent seen many comments about New Mexico, but Im sure if views are the point of the home, a house built in either of those towns offer some of the best.
Posted by Andy – March 4, 2007 12:42 PM
I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THE BUSY STREET IN THE BACKGROUND. That looks like a lot of traffic. Also, what's that sound in the background? Is it water or something else? I just hope it isn't the road in the background!!!:) I'll have to look up some more research.
Lake Tahoe has a road that goes pretty much all the way around it.

Let me tell you about a little town with a new ski slope being built. It's on the back side of an existing mountain. With skiing, a terrain park, ice skating rink, and a learing center for handicap people yearing to enjoy the great outdoors. It already has condo's all slope side. But adding base acre plots for building holmes. Now if you can not get from one side of the the slopes to the other base on the other side of the mountain, well then jump aboard a wood burning steam engine train, in service since 1905. Got your attention! Ok now add some golf, rivers, fising, mountain climbing, national forests, and spectaculiar views, . But wait, it's not mid west, but just north of me, in New England. Endless antigue shops out of converted barns, to add charm to your life. Let's remember that it's birthplace of some of our olympic champions, as well. And now weekend retreats to some of NY's and Boston's Bravests, and Finest. Want more info then email me, and I'll tell you how I was a leader in saving a woman's life on a mountain peak during a feak snow storm in September, and now I want to move up there to continue my volunteering, just like our original Patriot's in the revolutionary war. For now I can only hope the 2008 dream home is in ...?
For now All the best, Pete

If you looking for mountains, either Sun Valley, Idaho or Tamarack in Donelly, Idaho is the place you should be looking at. Hope to see that in 2009.
Posted by Glenn Pfautsch – March 4, 2007 1:00 PM
After looking at Jack Thomasson's video, hopefully and apparently recently taped, the location has to be in an area where the weather has been fairly good. There is no snow on the ground, the ground doesn't look like there has been a lot of rain, the vegetation is green and healthy, and the temperature must be ok--because Jack isn't wearing a jacket or sweater.
Even though I'm not sure of the location, I still want to win! The Dream Homes always look wonderful in their location and taped in such a way that one thinks good thoughts.
Posted by D2425 – March 4, 2007 1:17 PM
I agree with some of the others who think Kansas is too obvious. It might be there just because it borders Colorado. Eye(!) think it's Seattle (Space Needle), Washington.

Jack! Remember, Big Sky,Montana for future DH. Call me!!
Posted by Sheryl – March 4, 2007 1:24 PM
Whitefish, MT. Bison and Moose and Bear oh my! Right on the lake looking up to the ski area. The lake is pretty shallow so the 35' depth finder would be ideal. Golf course along side and the fauna and cloud cover points to the west side of the continental divide. Wild sunflowers grow alongside the highways. No one said when the video was made so I think they busted ground last summer so they could get the foundation in and get the framing and shell done before winter. Then again it looks alot like Minnesota too!
Posted by Mark – March 4, 2007 1:27 PM
Looks like Florida to me. Canal behind him, Crape Myrtle so tall behind him, flat and sandy ground, looks like old coral in the pile of rocks next to the wood he sits on, the climate is warm and the trees fully leafed out, that could only be in zone 9 or 10 for this time of year which indicates Florida. Could it be Winterpark, Florida??
Posted by Jeph – March 4, 2007 1:29 PM
In looking at the vegetation and the rocks next to Jack , it looks like the new dream home is in Florida.

Where ever the 2008 home will be built it will be beautiful. How about the Carolina's? To wake up with the ocean on one side, the rivers and Bays on the other what more could anyone ask for.
Posted by Portia Robinson – March 4, 2007 2:04 PM
I was just in the Napa Valley yesterday and the video looks very much like some of the areas up in Napa County. It seems like a lot of the clues are pointing to California. The wheather, Bartlett Pears, Sunflowers(David & Sons created sunflower seeds in Fresno Ca), and the outdoor activities all year round here. That is a stream behind jack and Northern California has a Moosehead Creek. The trees directly behind jack look like birch trees, which are everywhere here. I'm just not sure they would spend the kind of money it would take to build in Napa, but northern California is less expensive and beautiful coastline. I'm thinking Cali!!!
Posted by Becky – March 4, 2007 2:08 PM
I have two ideas...1) I think HGTV should build a Dream Home in or near a major metropolitan Northern City, such as Chicago. A dream home on the western shores of Lake Michigan facing Chicago would be totally unique from the previous locations. Michigan offers a variety of weather conditions, family fun activities, highly desireable universities, and a manageable cost of living index. Chicago offers great dining, shopping, and nightlife. The winner will have access to the best family fun-loving activities, including a great beach, and urban communities. This home should have a modern, beach like, decor. 2) Another idea might be a ranch style or multi-level dream home atop a major highrise overlooking Lake Michigan with a more modern, perhaps contemporary, sleek decor.
Just a few of my ideas,
SG

Hmm . . . I'm going to guess Texas, with Southern California or Florida as my next guesses.
Posted by Joan – March 4, 2007 3:49 PM
I don't think that's a stream behind Jack--it looks like a lamppost and some type of bus or tram stop. I still vote Texas--somewhere you can fish....
Posted by Joan – March 4, 2007 3:54 PM
Let me first start off by sounding like a nerd. This was taken several months ago. The sun reaches a point higher in the sky in summer than in winter. When the sun is higher in the sky, its light hits the surface at an angle that gets closer to 90 degrees. With that being said it honestly looks like Arkansas or MAYBE a surrounding state.
Posted by Misty Pritchett – March 4, 2007 4:13 PM
Think about building in Connecticut? It's a beautiful state.
Posted by minnie – March 4, 2007 4:37 PM
My guess is California with the beach looking background I`m pretty sure it is.
Posted by Marilyn – March 4, 2007 4:53 PM
Hayfork California.
Posted by Cami – March 4, 2007 5:38 PM
Okay, so I am just thinking that with the previous guesswork that maybe it is possibly Oklahoma, possibly Norman/Oklahoma City area.
Janet
Posted by Janet – March 4, 2007 5:56 PM
Well, I guess from your attire, you are not building a boathouse in Seattle, Washington. My next guess is Hawaii. You must be someplace warm, I assume there are views of mountains from the first clue. Can't think of anywhere in the continental U.S. that has warm weather this time of year and mountains! A lot of people say Arkansas, maybe that is it. It is mountainous, I just don't know what the temperatures are or the vegetation. The vegetation looks like something that would be coastal.
Posted by roseanne – March 4, 2007 5:59 PM
It's Florida; could it be in St. Augustine?
Posted by Rose112 – March 4, 2007 7:01 PM
Texas Hill Country, near San Antonio, Texas
Sante Fe, New Mexico
Taos, New Mexico
Olympia, Washington
Hood River, Oregon
Beautiful spots...

I think the the new 2008 dream home is in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, possibly on Schroon Lake. The clue from the scrabble board says glide, which is an Adirondack chair. In addition, there is another clue on the scrabble board saying coaxial, which was invented in New York. The clue about the view from another point is at the base of the mountains instead on in the mountains, with a second view of a lake. The moose clue shows that it can only be in Idaho, Montana, Minnesoat, New York, Vermont, New Hamshire, or Maine, since those states are the only ones where moose can be found in the U.S. (from how it appeared on the map I looked at).
The blue roof in the background of the video looks like it is filmed at a rest area with the highway in the background. When following the only highway on a map through the Adirondack Mountains in NY, Interstate 87 and looking for rest areas, the rest area closest to a lake is located on Schroon Lake.
According to www.schroonlake.org, Schroon Lake boasts one of the largest Ice Fishing Derbies in the Adirondack region.

No offense against the residents or natives of Florida, but it would really suck if the next dream home is built there. Actually, it would suck if they go back anywhere they've already been. There is entirely too much beautiful land in this country for them to go back to the same areas over and over again. Just a thought.
Posted by Michelle – March 4, 2007 8:22 PM
My first post didn't go through so I'm trying again. Hubby and I think it's going to be in Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Yes, NM was one of the first states I mentioned along with NV....4 corners of the USA. Then, I ventured into Northern CA, OR, WA, ID and AK. I'm still in ID at present. The rocks I see in the video are interesting. I'm still in the state of ID. But then, we have Bear Lake Valley, Bear Lake, Little Lakes Valley...then, I'm back to ID in Lava Hot Springs....then I found myself at dreamhome central w/ a photo of Jack standing on a balcony with tall trees behind him. He has a white shirt on. Hmm...I'm back in ID. :)

The trees behind Jack look like Yaupon, or Southern Bayberry, which grows from SE TX to FL. There's an old stone fence behind him, but not like stone fences in New England. It looks more like limestone or coral. My guess is Alabama, Mississippi, along the gulf coast or Florida.
Posted by ladysibley – March 4, 2007 8:57 PM
PS: We should keep in mind Limestone is a sedimentary rock made of the mineral calcite, which came from the beds of evaporated seas and lakes once covering many areas already mentioned here.
More clues, please! :)

This is a guess thanks to my Mom. We think it's in Milledgeville, GA. My parents have a house on the lake there and they are developing some land across the inlet from them. She thinks all the clues point straight there and I have to admit the video does look kind of similar. I don't know about the scrabble board - the Kansas part really throws me. I guess we'll find out soon!
Posted by Heather – March 4, 2007 10:27 PM
The view has to involve WATER! & a four seasons location and what better place than west Michigan's golden coast for magnificent lake Michigan sunsets. I would say somewhere between sleeping bear dunes and the "Big Mac" bridge is perfect. The Grand Traverse Bay area has plenty of golf courses, beachs, boating, wine vineyards, cherry and fruit orchards, ski resorts, hunting & fishing. Seclusion as well as city amenities.

Definately not Michigan or Indiana as the weather is too nice. I don't believe it is New Mexico as it has snowed a lot this winter there so it wouldn't be that sunny for a tan. Plus there is not much 'green' that I have seen there. I agree with what someone said about the road, I could hear the traffic on the highway in the backgroud of the video. Hopefully it is close enough to a place where jobs are plentiful as if you win this home, some of us want to have a large job market due to our work history! :)
Posted by Beth – March 4, 2007 11:05 PM
I think it is Kansas from the scrabble board. The weateher from the video looks like Georgia, Alabama, or Mississippi. I would even say South Carolina.
Posted by Anonymous – March 4, 2007 11:08 PM
It's got to be Central or Northern California, Washington or Oregon.
It’s also close to a lake, river, ocean or stream. Might be near were Buffalo or Moose roam or Good Eats. Huh, Alaska?

Posted by Steve – March 4, 2007 11:19 PM
Maybe it is Maine...fishing is a favorite there, and that had something to do with the clues!
Posted by Nicole – March 4, 2007 11:58 PM
Ha! Well I know that I was wrong about my Port Townsend, Washington prediction because there is no way he was wearing his sleeves rolled up there not to mention there are way too many cars in the background for it to be there... oh well... it still *should* be a location of a dream home. It is a great place.

Hi Jack and HaPpY HGTV Lovers,
I see a Jack in a light weight shirt with his sleeves rolled up and sunglasses on his head. There is a mimosa or rain tree. Flatlands, lake or river frontage and limerock. I'm also hearing a bird; possibly a cardinal.
I don't know but sounds and looks like way down yonder in the PAW PAW patch. MAYBE down in Southern FL ie, the Keys, Crystal River or Lake Okeechobee?
However from the scrabble clues: Maybe Kansas the Sunflower State.
Just keep on GuEsSiNg????????????

dear scripps/hgtv family
I just want to express to you my sincerest thoughts and prayers to you on the loss of Charles E. Scripps. I have been gone today to the Smokies in Tn, we drove to the top and saw some snow on those mountains it was beautiful and I just couldn't wait to get home and look up the next clue, there wasn't one so it's late 1:42am or early as you can tell. I couldn't sleep because I'm wired on caffeine and the fact that I am so intrigued or hooked on these clues and this website I thought I would do some research for fun on some old clues or names so I went to the fishing clue. And I noticed it sent me to shopzilla , any way I found that scripps media does own hgtv and to my surprise I see a memory posted that he died on sat. feb 3. I am truly sorry for the scripps family I pray God will comfort you all through your loss. I wish with all my heart that he could have waited a few more days to see the winner receive this house.

I'll agree that Jack is in a fairly warm climate at the time of this video diary. But all I can hear is traffic in the back ground and of course see what appears to be a highway. I do hope that sound proofing is in the design. No matter where it is located, it's the design and floor plan I'd like to see. How about including closets in all the bedrooms in this one? Every bedroom a suite would be even better.

Why does the ideal home have to have 4,000 sq ft?
A well planned, high tech home of 1,600 sq ft would serve many of your audience better.

A FLOATING HOME!!! A cool floating home..even a partially floating home with the main part of the home on the shore. Oregon or Sausalito CA would be a dream come true. There are floating home communities. An artsy craftsy home with character or a totally futuristic home. All these dream homes are of the norm per-say because they are all large homes with new things. Personally Extreme Home Makeovers homes are more elaborate.
I only entered the last dream home contest once. I wasnt impressed. And the last place I would want to live out my dreams is where it is cold.

After Jack posted the video TEASE! That "Blue Honing" in the back ground stuck in my thoughts.
My son watches the Reality TV Series... "Real World" while program was in progress... I walk pass... through my peripheral vision... I see Blue Honing just like in Jack's Video... Slamming on my foot brake! Asking my son... where is that program from? He has no clue what I'm asking! Where is the program your watching filmed from... that "blue honing" were? Son answers...Colorado!!
Oh Really Now! I think the video has no clue to 2008 DH... It's a TEASE!!!! Maybe video was filmed during 2006 DH set-up for 2007's DH in Colorado. Mah? Someone living in Colorado would know this blue honing? Anyone from Colorado?
I just bet Jack Thomasson has a huge sense of HUMOR! His true friends would know this about him... I know your out there!!!!
Jack likes to play practical jokes! Yes Or No? Give it up!!!! Big smile on my silly face!
As the plot thickens! Good one Jack! lol
Standing firm on our original choices: Alaska, Washington State, Oregon, Maybe Califonia?

Maybe mississippi it is the only state that has all I's for vowels in its spelling and one clue that don't make sense to me is eye or california

Hi Ya'll, It looks like Hot Springs Arkansas to me. Some where on Lake Hamilton.
Posted by Linda Person – March 5, 2007 1:33 PM
From clues on this blog and some of the others, I have ruled out the following states as the location for DH 2008: KY, TN, WV, WI, OH, CO, NC, MD and TX. I also don't believe any of the locations of previous DHes will be used again so soon. Those would include WY, SC, OR, ME, FL and GA (although there have already been two DHes in FL. Personally, I still believe somewhere in the Ozarks or Ouachita mountains could be a likely spot and it could very well still be green (at least partially) through fall and even early winter. There are also many lakes, rivers and streams in those areas. Can't wait to find out!

help help would you please hgtv put a transcript of your web tease clue on this site for us with slow poke computers. That's easy to get to. Since we can't hear at least we can read the words translate back ground noice too pretty please!!!! and we'll try to figure it out from that. Did the video go farther than you sitting on the wood? my computer is kind of old that's All I c o uld s e e from my old s l ow computer and I heard absolutely nothing . you were in slow mo jack but I could tell it was a busy place there with cars moving fast which puzzles me why they were moving so fast and you weren't And I think you have been working on the house because that looks like trim or hard wood flooring possibly that you are sitting on. and I saw you jack standing on what possibly could be log railing on a deck & I thought the same clothes in another picture on the home page. I think it was last night of course I only slept for 3 hours last night because all I could think about was clues and how things were going.

I saw it looked to cold to be Hawaii, but definitely too warm to be Northeast. I'm gonna say western coast... but maybe northern California or Oregon....
Posted by Heather S – March 5, 2007 2:27 PM
It has to be somewhere warm. There was grass and your shirt sleeves were rolled up. I think the Dream Home for 2008 is going to be in Florida or South Carolina.
Posted by Janet – March 5, 2007 2:31 PM
i really think it may be in virginia beach....i haven't looked at any of the clues yet..but i think this would be a great location site.

well jack i think the dream house 2008, well i'm going to take three guesses. tampa florida, s shreveport la, phoenix az. well i hope i'm right.
thanks gail

I have the location...DUNGENESS, Washington.
If you take all the clues that I wrote about previously and add:
coaxial=look up Juan De Fuca
Different perspective= Dungeness Spit is an ever changing landscape.
Wildlife refuge, lavender farms(used as decoration) in the 07 DH. Indian country.I think the video was done prior to now. The "eye" on the scrabble board is there to throw us off. I looked up the book with the eye on it (by Paul Auster) and its a story about Illusion. I am convinced that I am on the right track.
Keep the clues comming.

I believe its Bradenton FL, remember the o.j. contest well Tropicana is here in Bradenton and it look like your near the gulf of mexico which we have good weather and year around things to do.

Well... there is a Winter Park, Florida, near Orlando. I use to live there! Same name different location? It could happen! And instead of snow there is warm sand! Sure would like to move back.....
Posted by gymnasticsxlove – March 5, 2007 3:08 PM
i really tried to examine the flora and fauna in jack's video....it's a mystery...i think i will still go with virginia beach or maybe biscayne bay....i know the location is very humid. and the landscape of the area looks pretty flat...florida is flat and virgina beach area can be flat too. yet, hawaii does have open traffic near water's edge. some how i think it's still stateside. hmmmm........

From the looks of Jack's clothing and the weather, it has to be in the South (right now Central/South Florida is warmer enough for him to roll up his sleeves) I'm guessing Central Florida--maybe Kissimmee! Hopefully it is...

I don't have sound either but have watched the Blog "postcard" many times and read Lindigo's script in the Message Boards (Thanks Lindigo)... I must confess I'm thrown off a little by the tan, sandals, etc. but "fcole" only says it's from the building site not that it was taken last week. I've decided to be courageous and stick to my original thoughts, based on the clues: MICHIGAN ("moose" on the state flag), Upper Pennisula (fresh water fishing), between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron (hence "two views" and the out-of-place bridge on the coffee table- Mackinac Bridge), somewhere in the Hiawatha National Forest covering the "Kansas" clue). I may be completely off but will keep watching for clues... will we have another one soon "fcole"? :-)

Hi Jack
Never said that on a plane.LOL
I think it's South Florida It looks like coral type rocks at your feet.
Good luck I love watch Dream Home. Everyone Dream! However It's my understanding that most of the winnings can't affort to keep the homes. Is That ture? A better Dream home would be that someone can live in that in a Dream forever.
Maybe life rights then it would stay in family dream for ever. Now that shevle life for HGTV!
Posted by Anthony Lorie – March 5, 2007 4:17 PM
I just want to put to rest that Mackinac Island is not where the dream home is. I live in Michigan. As someone has stated before, cars are not allowed on Mackinac ever! Mackinac Island property is to costly, even for dream home standards. It is not in the Mackinac city area on the lower u.p because, ummm... its not the nicest of areas. Could it be northern Michigan? I dont think so, we just dont have those kind of trees. And it is cold and snowy here, has been since October, and will be till late March. I think the dream home will be in Sugarloaf key. My father lived in the Florida keys(Plantation key). I spent all of my winter breaks and summers there. I think one of the clues had to do with sking....Sugarloaf is also a winter ski resort. So since it is warm where Jack is taping, I think it is SUGARLOAF KEY. It sure looks like it. Tell us Jack, have you drank any rum runners lately?
Posted by Wendy – March 5, 2007 4:21 PM
I just watched a design show on HGTV and the home was at Pebble Beach Ca. Unless I missed a good clue that would be a good guess. Coast line, Mountains , Its green this time of year , Right?

I dont remember the name of of the golf course, but that is Alabama alright. my only hope is that if we end up with a dream home on a gold course, we get a dream home near a shooting preserve too!
But i will still settle for wining the Camden Maine Dream home 2008!!!

Someone mentioned Port Townsend WA as a location for a future Dream Home. I would like to 'second' that nomination. A wonderful Victorian Harbor town, arts and crafts community located in a 'banana belt', so milder climate than one might suppose. JACK, here's an idea for you: How about HGTV select several Dream locations, and put them out there for your faithful to vote on?
Posted by Heidi Fernandez – March 5, 2007 4:43 PM
It's got to be Florida, It looks like its on the beach in the Keys. Ooh that would be nice too.
Posted by Kathy – March 5, 2007 4:48 PM
The heart of bass country is the Ozark Mountains. (The original Bass Pro Shop is located in Springfield, Missouri.) My guess is that the 2008 dream home is located somewhere around Branson, Missouri. It is beautiful there, and a wonderful place to live year-round.
Posted by Debbie – March 5, 2007 4:49 PM

Will HGTV Dream Home bring their fame to South Carolina?
Posted by fr – March 5, 2007 4:58 PM
Hi, I've been watching the shows. I think it's great having these houses. But what would be even greater is to pick a winner first and having them help in the planning of the next dream house. To me that would be a dream come true, to work with a great home planner. And having the chane to help pick out a place with more land to have a little more peace and quiet and to have more of native around me. My dream house may seem small but you don't have to always think big. As long as you have dreams family, friends and a great ideas on what is important to you. Good luck to all who enter. and would love to here from you Jack I like to get ideas. thanks Dawn, wisconsin
Posted by Dawn Robinson – March 5, 2007 5:01 PM
The fishing clues immediately had me thinking of the Pacific Northwest. I have never been there (Oregon, Washington), but any time I've seen pictures I think it is a beautiful place. Economically booming area, as well. If the 2008 home isn't going to be built there, maybe the HGTV folks should consider it for future homes. Seems like you've already had homes in the South, East, and Southwest. Another home in the South, while it is a beautiful part of our country, would be a little disappointing. Though, if I win the home, I'm sure I'll be saying something completely different!
Posted by lori1119 – March 5, 2007 5:46 PM
Hey---I really think some of us are getting delirious. Please do not build a home out over water, that isn't very safe for anyone. I agree those are mimmosa or eucalyptus vine's or trees in the background. A sound proof home will knock out any sounds from the highway behind. This also tells me that restaurants are close by and I like that. I like being close in around other good people where I feel safe and can socialize. A different perspective can work in many dreams. Who needs a hundred acre farm to be happy?? Just comfort, food, peace, a desirable warm climate and a beautiful view of water. A place where friends can drop by without having to take a week off work just for coffee and chatting. Dee

SOUTH FLORIDA
The 2008 Dream Home will be in South Florida. I don't know why, but I have this strange feeling that it'll be near our southern most point.
I don't feel compelled to justify the beauty of South Florida so i'll leave it with my premonition.
Posted by Brian – March 5, 2007 6:00 PM
The video clue is no help on what part of the country the DH08 will be built or I should say IS being built. Listen carefully to what he says and he gives nothing away. He is often asked if he looks at the web site to read what people are saying about their(HGTV)LOCATIONS.(plural)
He likes some of our predictions and some could be used for future DHs. Some guesses are way off target and some are getting pretty close. You could say that every year! The older clues are still a better way to figure this out. The land does look rather flat so I think that eliminates any of the mountain ranges people have talked about, including my own.(Cascade Mtn.)
Most likely a sand beach, on a lake, in a coastal state. Too many to name.
Next clue please!

Hi Jack, The world is changing and HGTV has been a great source, but I think you are treading into FINE LIVING. As more baby boomers flood the market MILLION dollar athough beatiful should for $150-$200+ villa, craftsmen,English cottage style cluster patio homesgiving many peaple to win a home. What would be more rewarding then a small intiment village which can be placed in settig. Also you could plan it as mixed, family, adult areas. This to me would be a challenge that most winners along with Lending Tree. Will make this affordable for many. What an award winner for you. THANK STRONGLY ABOUT THIS and how great you will feel.

Looks like San Clemente, California. That would be my guess!
Posted by Georgia – March 5, 2007 10:36 PM
Well, I have excluded Hawaii from my list, mostly because there isn't much available space to build a house like DH and because land is astronomically high there. From the video, I would still guess Arkansas. I have been there many times, all up and down the western half of the state up to Missouri and the scenery is very like what I see in the video. That trickling rocky stream behind Jack could be any one of hundreds or thousands in AR. Does anyone know if they played this kind of guessing game for DH 2007? If not, I'd say the video is fairly recent because of Jack's references to the comments he has read. This hasn't been going on very long.
Posted by Anne – March 5, 2007 11:05 PM
I couldn't hear the audio, so I have no idea if what he said gave more of a clue, but it looks like South Florida to me. Maybe even somewhere in the Keys.

JACK;
Since you are breaking ground and the tree's are so green. You have on jeans and rolled up sleeve's. Sun glasses and are tanned and cute by the way. My guess would be Hawaii. Around 80 degree's there about a month ago. I'll make a deal with you. "If you build it we will come."God Bless! Kitty H.

Am going to guess some where near Disney Animal Kingdom. There's a tram at Disney, and its a warm climate....fishing isnt far away either. Cemtral Florida area. Or maybe near Tampas Busch Gardens -- also not far from the Beaches. I hope it IS Fla, because the weather is great.

New Hampshire is lovely in every season. I also love the coast in New Hampshire.

A Dream Home in Lake Tahoe Nevada would be wonderful. Even better would be building a "Snow City Retirement Community for folks who are NOT very retiring." An age-restricted community. At least one resident of each home must be 55 years of age or older. Snow City would be a community owned association. Like a small village, governed by the elected Community Association Board.
Posted by Carol S – March 6, 2007 10:32 AM
I think it might be an island. Only on an island will people be willing to suffer a fast paced busy highway that is next to a luxury homesite. Either that or Jack is far away from the actual homesite and is on the outskirts of the development project.
Posted by AudreyMarks – March 6, 2007 10:34 AM
when was the video made? he could have made it last fall or summer. I am sure they picked the spot out and bought land over a year ago. so weather conditions will not be accurate.
Posted by sandy Reisenauer – March 6, 2007 11:27 AM
Since I'm a visual person, the Jack Thomasson video was very helpful. As he spoke, I listened not only to his words, but to the coastal wind as well. They transported me to the vacation spot my husband and I went to in 1999: New Orleans, LA. The trees, too, looked very coastal, like some of central California's coastal trees. The Gulf of Mexico location gets my vote...
I believe HGTV's DREAM HOME is doing a good turn not only for the lucky winner of the 2008 home, but for the Louisianna community as they continue to work through the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. Building a home in this area would certainly bring in much needed money, not only from the work crew, but, in the future, from all of the admirers of the HGTV Dream Home home, who would be bringing in the tourist money on which the New Orleans, Louisiana thrives...
If I'm wrong, how about a location for the 2009 home? Louisiana or Mississippi could certainly use the media attention.

"Angus in Wartburg,(3-5-07 at 10:25)
I looked up Mackinac Island in Michigan & it is very beautiful but it cant be THIS dream home because I discovered that it's a bike & carriage community & that vehicles are seldom used. That was a busy highway in the background. Maybe it is not Mackinac Island but somewhere near there In Michigan since Angus said they pulled over to a rest stop. I am from Michigan and Angus could be accurate, especially if this was filmed last Fall. Then the background would make total sense which I wasn't thinking about if it was taped previously.
Posted by Beth – March 6, 2007 1:00 PM
Florida keys or California! California would explain the bears.
Posted by jenn – March 6, 2007 1:17 PM
I do not like any location you have chosen yet--why not choose the winner, let them pick the location they want and then build the dream house where they want to live!! That way you do not drag them from family and friends and jobs to have to relocate or sell the dream house if they don't want to relocate there.
I would never live in snow country again nor high humidity nor hot weather areas so your dream houses would be a nightmare!
Posted by Patti – March 6, 2007 1:30 PM
If you look at the video from Jack, in the background you can see cars on a street or highway passing by.
It's Hawaii!

Posted by coloradobetty – March 6, 2007 2:37 PM
The weather looks like it could be in Washington State. Great fishing here too.
We would like to see a dream home built that the average person could afford to keep and not have to sell right away to pay the taxes. We'd love to win the dream home, but, we'd also like to be able to live in it too.
Posted by Betty – March 6, 2007 2:41 PM

The dream homes have all been beautiful in their own way. I just would prefer that they not be in a "community" - housing development. Especially when there is to be a home in a natural setting and one where a person could fish - why be constrained by a housing development rules etc? The views from the current home are of the neighbor's house - why look at that where there is so much nature around it?

THE GREAT BIG MOUNTAINS OF BIG SUR. Not 2 mention the nearly perfect 60-70 DEGREE'S TEMPERATURES YEAR LONG.

Ok, for some reason I have no sound on the video, but it looks like Florida. The west coast, near Sanibel Island. The coral rock and shell rock road where Jack is sitting is a big hint. The trees are common in So.Florida. If not it has to be on the Gulf Coast, maybe Gulfport, MS. I think SW Florida because of all the shell rock.

First-Do ya think this video could have ben made last summer when things were green and not buried in snow as we in the 'frozen North" are now? Hmmmm
Also, the blue structure seen in the video may be a clue-a shelter of some kind??? And, if you don't mind my saying, I would not wish for a dream house built on a major roadway with so much TRAFFIC! Did you notice all the cars? Noisy! Must be in California if you ask me.

Okay, took a look at this video about 10 times...living near where I believe it to be, I've seen this type of grass, trees and rocks quite often....I have a feeling it's in Florida, not Hawaii, somewhere near Orlando area, although it also looks a bit like the Jacksonville area too. But I think I'm confident enough to place a VERY small bet on it....anyone agree with me as to Florida? :)

I was looking at the rocks in the picture, and the scrub oak, and there is a highway behind Jack with cars. It looks like a volcanic type dirt, and the rocks, too. i still stick with my original guess. in florida north east coast. above palm beach below daytona. Great fishing in lake okachobee and great fishing in the ocean. based on Jacks video, coral rock, warm weather, water runoff drainage canal, low skyline (no mountains), busy road?! possible golf coarse, with blue golf cart stop area, no palm trees, which says north fl. more palm trees as you go south. well i need some more clues.

Posted by Mark – March 8, 2007 8:50 AM
I can not hear the video. But to look at the area and to take in that there are comments of an island coming to you I would assume it is in a warm area of the country. So say Myrtle Beach, SC or Keys in Florida, There seems to be a divided highway behind him and the Keys seems to be as good of a guess as any. Have no clue if he is giving us a clue so hey one guess is as good as another. Good luck everyone.

My best guess would be Montana. I've never been there but I have friends who have and they say it is a beautiful state.

Hello Jack ! This is my firts Post , but definetly it got to be in Texas the Lone Star State , We have to many perfect locations for a Dream Home 2008.

I hope it will be in Savanna Georgia, That's where Paula Dean lives and i am a great fan of her's My sister and I watch her all the time and it is southern enough form the back ground in the video, and near some of the best fishing you can find. Hope it is,it would be a great place to live WHEN MY HUBBY RETIRES FROM THE NAVY he love's to fish, We have my sister and mom living with us and when all the family is here visiting my house is too small .Oh! well hope it is a warm place . If I were to win I would like to be warm again, but not CALIFORNIA Born and rasied , Been there done that.

I am sorry I could not even try to guess where the dream home is. Was too busy looking at Jack to see anything else in the video. Look out George Clooney - you have some MAJOR competition!!
Posted by Rhonda – March 8, 2007 11:06 AM
I know where is going to be, i just can't believe.
I just past that road yesterday.
Yeppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp:)

It's in northern Michigan, before the Mackinaw bridge. Beautiful land, hills, golf courses and of course, lots of lakes!!!!!
Posted by rae richards – March 8, 2007 12:01 PM
I think it's Florida. If the video was recently shot, which I assume it was, it's not anything north of Oklahoma, where I'm at. We don't have green grass yet, folks. Sorry too all those who think it's Kansas. ;) The trees look like Mimosas (we do have those) but they aren't showing leaves yet here.
Posted by Christie – March 8, 2007 12:41 PM
I think is Connecticut. I lived there for five years and some of the places are really beautiful, they would make perfect locations for a dream home, especially South.
Posted by Dori – March 8, 2007 12:48 PM
I DONT KNOW I WATCH AND ENTER EVERY YEAR IM NOT EVEN LUCKY TO WIN A DOGGY DREAM HOME LET ALONE THE REAL ONE. I THINK IT COULD BE IN THE OUTTER BANKS OF SOUTH CAROLINA. IF YOU LOOK AT THE BACK GROUND. I NOTICED THE SAND LIKE GROUND.
Posted by Becky – March 8, 2007 2:48 PM
Well, I was hoping the new site would be in Maine but after viewing this clip, my guess has changed to match the apparent warm weather where Jack is sitting. Adding the hint of fishing gear leads me to think that the new site is in Florida. I can't wait to see where it is!!!

Hi Jack, I've been watching your dream homes for the last two or three years and I can say they are spectacular, as one can view they are very well built and decorated in really good taste. What a fine job. The place that is really beautiful near me is Cataract Falls Park in Central - to Southwest Indiana. Last year when the property at the top of the hill overlooking the Falls- home sat vacant for a year for sale I tried on several attempts to get State DNR to consider purchasing it, since they own both the large Upper and Lower Cataract Falls with property. It finally sold to someone locally, but I think it is the most beautiful place for a dream home. Your places are well chosen, and carefully planned. Good Luck, and I'm still trying for a dream home.
Posted by Cindy – March 8, 2007 8:21 PM
The next 2008 Dream Home will be in Myrtle Beach SC because I will win it and it is where I going to live when I retire
Posted by Brenda F – March 8, 2007 9:02 PM
Someone mentioned that it was Kansas Cove, San Juan Islands, WA, which would be on Shaw Island. Not possible as there is way too much traffic to be going on any of the roads there. The fauna doesn't look typical either.
Posted by SkritchD – March 8, 2007 10:46 PM
Jack, You ought to think about building a home for those who have lost their homes in Mississippi or Louisana.
Posted by Alice – March 8, 2007 11:45 PM
I think the dream home 2008 will be in ARKANSAS. The best kept secret in America...camping, fishing, water sports, hunting and whatever outside activity your heart desires. It would be fantastic but I will be winning the dream house this year so good luck to all in 2008.
Posted by Kim – March 8, 2007 11:46 PM
How about a google earth image of the building site.

I believe that it's in Florida. From the trees, to the dirt, the the road in the background. Even the weather makes me think it's Florida.

Hello Jack, Just have a feeling that the 2008 HGTV Dream Home will be Kansas. If it is, the the whole state of Kansas will welcome you. HAPPY BUILDING!!!
Posted by Angela – March 9, 2007 9:40 AM
I think northern New Mexico, Northeastern AZ or Mid Texas would be some ideal locations. and...I would love to see something with "round" irregular lines in the house architecture, using cedar/stone exterior. (somewhat of a "futuristic" look), and more modern/contemporary,using some bold colors in the interior decor, rather than the former English,French, and Victorian styles. Incorporate some "interesting" lighting, BIG windows, Roman showers,& water features. A true "Dream Home".

I think it is Texas. It cannot be Florida beacuse there are rocks next to the wood he is sitting on. The trees are a bit scrubby. And there is a highway behind him.
Posted by Natalie – March 9, 2007 11:14 AM
I so thought it was Alaska, but Jack's not there. I have to go with Flat. KS=flat and fish, but the topography looked all wrong. Any of the coasts of TX, FL or CA, are looking more likely. This is fun!

For sure the SE US. My guess is GA or FL. It was pretty warm here in Charleston, SC but it looked to be in a warmer climate - more green than we have here. Way too much green and too flat for CA. The type of trees and the amount of green suggest South GA or FL. Could also be coatal Alabama, or Mississippi. The type of trees also make me doubt LA or TX. Then again, after studying the video, you are facing WNW which would put you on the west coast of FL or on an island....perhaps the FL Keys. And yes, that's my final answer. Mike

Too bad we don't know if the video is current or recorded some time ago.
It hard to tell if the upswing of the landscape is a tree line or low Hills. Rushing traffic, scrub, short sleves, elevated sprinklers. Dry warm and comgested/ Arizona, Texas, no California!
Sweet San Diego, Hombre.

Hey Jack,
Don't you think it's time for a dream house along the gulf coast area. Beautiful weather most of the year, friendly people, and lots of Southern Charm! Look at Fairhope AL. It is located along Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

Whoops, I take my previous post back. After watching the video, it looks like in Florida somewhere. We lived in Fl and the trees behind him, not to mention how he's dressed and the color of the sand..(I mean dirt :) looks like farther south than Asheville. Yup, I'm going with Florida.

OK JACK, TELL EVERYONE TO STOP SEARCHING I HAVE IT FIGURED OUT. READ WHAT I WROTE ON THE HOME PAGE "UNDER THE GUESSES SO FAR". IT IS "THE YELLOW DOG PLAINS & SALMON TROUT RIVER". "THE HURON MOUNTAIN CLUB" TO BE EXACT. THE Salmon Trout River rises on the Yellow Dog Plains in the wildest part of Michigan and runs almost due north into Lake Superior. You can read about the "Huran Mountain Club" and see a beautiful landscape of the area at "Save the Wild UP". The article is by Susan Ager: A cabin in the woods. The moose is throwing everyone off....A real moose doesn't have to live in the new Dream Home area. The one on the wall leads you to "Orvis". He is the seller of the moose and if you notice a sponsor of this Dreamhome. Read what I previously wrote if you want more clues. I double dog dare you...........GOOD LUCK..........IF YOU ARE STILL NOT SURE....CLUES ARE THROUGHOUT THE ARTICLE. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE ONE ABOUT "HER RED CHEVY BLAZER'. AND DAVID TOWNSEND FROM BIRMINGHAM WHO OWNS A 19TH CENTURY HOTEL ON A BLUFF ABOVE "LAKE HURON". ALSO, ALL OF THE WILD FLOWERS THAT GROW THERE, AND THE FAMILY NAMES OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE". ALL OF THESE ARE CLUE RELATED. Research each name. LEMERS>animal>trunk monkey>crazy monkey>GREASE MONKEY ie: CLUE COAXIAL. Chandler> wrote "The Lady on the Lake". JUST TO NAME A FEW. GAUNTLETS WAS IN THERE ALSO. THIS COULD MEAN THE WHITE GLOVES THE STUFFED MOOSE IS WEARING. OH ONE MORE CLUE: GLIDE> THIS IS FOR ANDIRONDACK CHAIR. HAVE FUN EVERYONE.P.S.JACK. HOW DID I DO SO FAR. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE ROLLER COASTER RIDE. KITTY HAUGEN
Posted by Kitty Haugen – March 9, 2007 11:36 PM
Jack and everyone who is following all of my post. I at first thought the clue coaxial was related to "Grease Monkey." Still could be, but it means "CABLE". Everyone who is following remember that there is "NO CABLE" IN THE HURON MOUNTAIN CLUB. WHICH IS WHERE I PREDICT THE NEXT DREAM HOME WILL BE BUILT. SEE OTHER POST ON THIS SITE AND ALSO ON "GUESSES SO FAR" SITE to get caught up. Thanks Kitty Haugen
Posted by Kitty Haugen – March 9, 2007 11:59 PM
OK JACK: I HAVE BEEN SECOND GUESSING MY SELF SO LONG THAT I HAVE A HEAD ACHE. You definitely gave me a run for my money. I have been "brainstorming" my guess and this is my final answer. YOU CAN FOR SURE TELL EVERYONE THEY CAN STOP GUESSING NOW. I FOR SURE HAVE IT FIGURED OUT THIS TIME............THE NEW DREAM HOME WILL BE IN PAUL SMITHS, NY. "GREAT CAMPS OF THE ADIRONDACKS ARE LOCATED THERE. At camp Topridge, there is a small "CABLE" car (CLUE)(COAXIAL), that transport one up hill to the main lodge.(CLUE)(VIEW FROM ANOTHER POINT) Adirondack (CLUE FOR GLIDE). WHITE PINE CAMP-THE RUSTIC CAMPS WITH ITS ASYMMETRICAL, PRE-MODERN BUILDINGS WITH SOARING ROOFLINES AND ROUGH-MILLED SIDING THAT BECAME KNOWN IN THE ADIRONDACKS AS "BRAINSTORM SIDING". BRAINSTORMING IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING. AT "CAMP WILD AIR" THE LOONS DIVE FOR "FISH"(CLUE) IN THE LAKE. MOOSE (CLUE) CAN PROBABLY BE FOUND, BUT I STAND BY MY ORIGINAL CLUE (ORVIS). WITHOUT HIM I WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR. WHITE PINE CAMP ALSO HAS A JAPANESE TEA ROOM WITH A CURVED ASIAN-STYLE BRIDGE.(CLUE)(VIEW)
OF ALL THE CAMPS CAMP TOPRIDGE AND CAMP WILD AIR ARE THE ONLY TWO PROPERTIES THAT REMAIN PRIVATE RESIDENCES. I THINK THAT CAMP TOPRIDGE WHICH WAS BUILT ON THE BANK ABOVE UPPER ST.REGIS LAKE IS WHERE THE NEXT DREAM HOME WILL BE BUILT. THIS IS WHERE THE CABLE CAR, BOATHOUSE AND GRAND LODGE ARE LOCATED. HOWEVER, SINCE CAMP WILD AIR IS OWNED BY AN 80 YEAR OLD GENTLEMAN AND DAUGHTER (WHO JUST VISIT THEIR CAMP) AND IT HAS INDOOR RECREATION, THIS TOO COULD BE A POSSIBILITY. EITHER WAY I STILL SAY "PAUL SMITH, NY. I AM BRAINSTORMED OUT NOW, SO I HAVE TO GO. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT. THANKS... SIGNING OFF FOR THE LAST TIME...I PROMISE....KITTY HAUGEN P.S. HEY JACK! HOW DID I DO??????????????????

FIRST...SORRY EVERYONE...IT APPEARS THAT I SCARED EVERYONE OFF WITH MY ANSWER THE OTHER NIGHT. NOT TO WORRY IT WAS JUST AN ILLUSION. ASK JACK...HE CAN VERIFY THIS. SECOND...ABOUT THE CLUE "EYE". YOU CAN FIND THIS ON THE PAUL AUSTER BOOK CALLED "THE BOOK OF ILLUSIONS". I SPOTTED IT ON A TABLE IN THE VIDEO OF THE DREAMHOME. FOR ALL OF US WHO FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN GOING DELUSIONAL, THERE IS A REASON. READ UP ON THE BOOK AND LISTEN TO THE AUDIO BY BILL THOMPSONS. JACK..LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I DID NOT SUCCUMB TO WATCHING THE AUDIO FILE ABOUT THE FILM CLIPS OF HECTOR MANN'S CAREER. ALTHOUGH IN THE END THIS TOO WILL PROBABLY REALLY COME BACK TO BITE ME. INSTEAD, I LISTENED AND HOPEFULLY LEARNED. WHAT???? I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE. PERHAPS THAT I SHOULD DO WHAT I ALWAYS TELL MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO DO. WHICH IS NOT TO SECOND GUESS HERSELF, OR THAT I AM LIKE PAUL AUSTERS CHARACTER "DAVID ZIMMER", AND HAVE TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS AND NEED TO GET A LIFE. HOWEVER, I PREFER TO LOOK AT IT LIKE BILL THOMPSON SAID. "TOO MUCH INFO. AND YOU GET BOGGED DOWN." "TOO LITTLE INFO. AND YOU WILL NOT SEE ENOUGH." "YOU HAVE TO STRIKE THE RIGHT BALANCE IN THE PASSAGES YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH TO FIND THE CORRECT ANSWER." WHILE COUCH SURFING THE T.V. LAST NIGHT, YOU KNOW SINCE I HAD TO RETHINK THIS WHOLE CHALLENGE OF ARTIFICE, AND LIKE A FILM REEL IN THE DARK, A STORY MUST LOOP AROUND TO ITS BEGINNING. I TOO DECIDED TOO START FROM THE BEGINNING. I AM PUTTING DOWN THIS CHALLENGE OF MAZES, DOUBLES, PARALLELS, MASSED SHADOWS AND MASKS, AND STARTING OVER. THIS WHOLE THING HAS BEEN A STORY WITHIN A MYSTERY, WITHIN A FABLE. AN ILLUSION WITHIN AN ILLUSION. HOW AM I DOING SO FAR JACK?????? OR SHOULD I BE ASKING PAUL AUSTER THIS QUESTION. BOY YOU ARE GOOD......REALLY GOOD.....MY HAT GOES OFF TO YOU!!!! LONG STORY SHORT.. I GO BACK TO MY ORIGINAL ANSWER "HAWAII". THIS ROLLERCOASTER RIDE HAS BEEN ALOT OF FUN AND THANKS FOR TAKING SOME OF US ILLUSIONIST ALONG FOR THE RIDE. THANK GOD.....FOR A WHILE I THOUGHT I WAS REALLY LOOSING IT. WHEW!!! ALTHOUGH JACK AND PAUL AUSTER, BEFORE I GO I HAVE TO ASK YOU TWO A QUESTION. "IF A TREE FALLS IN A FOREST WITH NOBODY AROUND, DOES IT MAKE A SOUND???????SINCERELY, KITTY HAUGEN.

I think that the orchid plant in the Lodge Room is out of place in the 2007 Dream House. It belongs in the 2008 Dream House in Hawaii.

Basic common sense tells me that the 2008 Dream Home HAS to be somewhere in the extreme far South. Look at the trees around Jack. They are all completely green. It has to be south of Atlanta, so my guess is going to be Florida, Mississippi, or Louisiana.

Common sense tells me that the 2008 Dream Home has to be in the Deep South. Look at the trees around Jack. They are completely green, which means that it is someplace with a warm climate. The trees don't look lik Hawaii, so that is off my "guess" list. It is probably someplace like Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, or Louisisana. Doesn't that make sense? I wanted it to be in Missouri, but I know that it isn't "green" there just yet.
Posted by Debbie – March 12, 2007 9:02 AM
I think it's Texas. Around San Antonio or Austin.
Posted by Judi – March 12, 2007 10:38 AM
I'm going to guess it is somewhere in south Florida. Maybe Ocean Reef (Key Largo) or Key Biscayne.
Posted by DonK – March 12, 2007 3:21 PM
I do believe you are in the Keys...probably middle or upper keys...I just moved out of Key West and I still think North Central Florida is a better location year round.
Posted by Rose Ann – March 12, 2007 4:13 PM
Some of these comments are very confusing. Aren't we just supposed to look at the video Jack is in? Not the dream house itself. What's up with the scrabble board????? California would be great!!! Doesn't matter where in California. California has perfect weather.

Hello, I just saw the video with Jack Thomasson, and what i see around him is Coral Rock, that tells me he is in the Florida keys, or somewhere in South Florida, Naples, Marco Island area but definitely in Florida.
Posted by Delia Leon – March 12, 2007 10:52 PM
Caliche earth (limestone), stunted oaks. This is soooo TX hill country & that's 1-10 in the far background. NW of San Antonio. Kerrville? Boerne?Hmmm. Then again it could be Mystic Shores at Canyon Lake. Where are ya Jack, ya little rascal? Well, you should just stay put right there til Sunday. That way, you can be here when Joan comes down here to give me the keys to the CO house. We'll all have dinner, my treat!

It's in southern Florida. I can tell by the greyish shrub growing to his left. No further than 10 miles from the beach... the canal behind him, which we have tons of in southernish florida...
Posted by Luke – March 13, 2007 3:51 AM
I hope you will consider the State of Michigan. We have the most beautiful lakes in the world.
Posted by jeanine – March 13, 2007 11:26 AM
It looks like Jack Thomasson is on a golf course; lake is behind him, and beyond that is a roadway. I thought perhaps Vermont, but you would need a fireplace there, which one clue says a fireplace would not be needed much..so forget the Northeast. I'm going with a Gulf Coast state: FL, AL, MS, LA, TX. Maybe the next clue will narrow it down.
Posted by Michelle – March 13, 2007 2:46 PM
St. Simon Island, Georgia; Savannah, Georgia; St. Augustine, Florida, - Not all that prone to hurricanes like the Gulf Coast is - All have rivers as well as the ocean. Postcard shows lots of sand - may not need fireplace much, but can use it. These clues all fit these cities. We'll see!
Posted by Carol – March 13, 2007 3:25 PM
It looks like a beach place, so I'd say California or Florida, but being that California is my fav. I'll go with Cali. Carmel, Cambria??? Somewhere on the Pacific Coast.

Coastal glide....Fishing....no need of fireplace.....sandy/coral ground....Unless that video was made more than 6 month ago.....Screams Florida. What I don't get is the mirrow....Western font??? California

There are not any rocks like those in the Gulf coast of FL, AL, MS, or LA because I have to bring them from out of state...I think with the scrub-like trees and grayish soil...it looks like south Texas...around the Austin/San Antonio area..One of the fastest growing areas in the US. The people are very nice there also.
Posted by Jackie W – March 14, 2007 1:14 AM

Ok, if we won't be using the fireplace, I am going to say somewhere around the gulf coast of Florida, mainly to the south because you would get use from your fireplace in northern FL so I am going to say Tampa south. Maybe it is Longboat Key in Sarasota? That is my guess for the day! :-)

Come back to the Northeast! There's no better place in the world to live than the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains! Why you could have your own ski slope, tubing hill, ice skating pond or snow mobile trails. Nature comes right up to your door. And the lakes! They are pristine! Year round fun is what it's about in the Poconos. Just think of the old "summer camp" style lodge house. Jumping off the dock into the lake, canoeing and catching frogs. Come on HGTV!! Build a summer camp home in the Poconos and bring back some old fashion family fun.

The trees look like crape myrtle trunks, and the ground looks sandy -maybe one of the sea islands off the southeast coast - near Savannah or Charleston or Beaufort SC?

From looking at the video, I see dark green background with coral rocks and sands. I would say Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin island.
Posted by Lem Fosi – March 14, 2007 10:04 PM
Now that I have seen the video, take a look at the soil, it is white....so there may be alot of shells or coral in the soil. Definitely the Keys, or some South Eastern State....The trees and vegetation are indigenous to the lower southern states and the bird you can hear in the back ground ( I know I have heard it before in Florida)... The street almost looks like rt 1 south maybe Key Largo, but could be Louisiana, although not much moss. This is fun!! I could be way off but am sticking to the lower coastal eastern states.

Hi Jack...My guess is Charleston, South Carolina. South Carolina has beautiful places and smiling faces. I do believe the next HGTV home will be in the beautiful low country which is famous for their southern cuisine and charming inns! My favorite place to be.

I'm thinking maybe the West Coast. You did a dream home in Oregon a few years ago so we will rule that state out, but maybe Northern California. Of course anywhere in California is going to be expensive to build even a tool shed. Still, I'll go with Northern California or Washington.

i think that it's maryland [by the chesapeake bay]since if u click on "items you may find useful if you live in the 2008 dream home" it has things useful for fishing. However, the location of the video at the site of the 2008 dream home looks like somewhere closer to the south because of the trees, but i dont know!!!! i cant wait to see next years house!

I have a feeling it's on the EAST COAST....Upper North Like PA, MASS or VERMONT. There are lots of mountains and you can fish anywhere.
Yeah...if they build it in Vermont please build it by Ben&Jerry's Ice Cream Factory...I would be in heaven!!!
Good Luck and looking forward to the 2007 HGTV give away on TV this Sunday...WOOHOO!!
PS: Jack Thomasson, Keep up the good work!!!

I am thinking Florida..Pretty sure
Posted by blwager – March 15, 2007 7:39 PM
I think Cape Cod or maybe Martha's Vinyard, Or Nantucket. I am from there. I live in Florida now. The video doesn't look like Fla. The tree's are different.
Posted by Missy DellaRocca – March 15, 2007 8:25 PM
Jack: I realize you eliminated Hawaii and Michigan and that New York is still in the running. However,I am changing my answer to Galveston Island, Texas. If you listen to your video with head phones you can hear a surf and a bird. Also, GI Texas is nice outdoors all year round. You would not need a fireplace. It offers beaches, birding, boating, fishing, golfing, sea turtles, and SURFING. I was there a long time ago and It is so beautiful. OK Jack: HOW DID I DO SO FAR...........KITTY HAUGEN

What about USVI?? No one has mentioned that yet, I don't believe. It is definately a beach home and somewhere warm. St. Thomas, USVI they drive on the left side of the road, can anyone tell from the video how the traffic was running??

I can't get sound to play on Jack's message, so I don't know what he's saying. What did he say?
From the clue with the fireplace, I am guessing Wisconsin.

Bring the Dream Home to rural Marion, Alabama where a stately antebellium mansion could be raised to look out over the fields and crops of the lovely black belt area soil. There is no other place on earth like this.
Posted by Theresa Anderson – March 16, 2007 6:39 PM
Sanibel or Captiva Island, FL
Posted by Sylvia Romans – March 16, 2007 6:48 PM
CA, AZ, UT, NM, AK, AL, MI, LA are the states that i'm down too. My theory taking the states you listed as not being it and previous locations, plus its a place you wouldn't use a fireplace?, so ts probably prety warm year round. Give us another clue! please
Posted by Stacy – March 16, 2007 7:04 PM
It's FLORIDA!!!! no mountains on the background.
Posted by M-C – March 16, 2007 10:01 PM
My guess is St. Simons Island, Georgia. It comes up on several "best places" lists, is still reasonably priced, has the white sand shown in the video and makes a great vacation, retirement or second home location! Am I correct?
Posted by Didi – March 16, 2007 11:44 PM
I too hope it go's to a family that is really down on there luck that could truly benefit from this home and perhaps for fill them with happiness. Jack has clued us that it's Warm most part of the year, near water with a beautiful view. Too many clues Jack. By sunday I'll let you know what state I truly believe it's in. Till then enjoy. Oh by the way the video looks like it was shot either in Jan or Feb but I feel it was shot in Feb.

I can't see the video for some reason, but I gather it's a warm place, great for fishing, (I can learn to relax & fish, and after my husband's year ( serious auto accident, employee fell and fractured his neck, then surgery to remove a mass and adrenal gland) we can learn to relax in the south and fish to our hearts content! Maybe Mississippi??
Posted by llguy – March 17, 2007 10:35 AM
It has to be SC, they have already built in NC and Georgia.
Posted by Viola – March 17, 2007 11:12 AM
Can't hear video, just by looking at what is given, my guess is Hot Springs, Arkansas. But the clues do make u lean towards a coastal area also.

Well, I, too, am disappointed I didn't win. The last registration day was my birthday & St. Pat's lucky for me. My guess is Myrtle Beach because they tore it all apart & want to build luxury condos (that would be the view with the different perspective). Otherwise, some island near the Hilton Head, S.C. area. Off H.Hd., itself, has had a GIGANTIC building "boom."

I live in MS near the coast... This is not MS. I have lived near the coast of GA.If this is GA, it is on one of the islands although I don't think so. It does resemble Alabama, but there is not a lot of available coastal property. i don't think it is FLorida. It could be Hilton Head SC. To me though, it looks like Hawaii. Is Jack sitting by the beach? I couldn't hear the video, it wouldn't download. Is that the ocean past the trees? Hawaii has plenty of beaches, mountains, little need for a fireplace, lots of available outdoor activities. Why can't they just tell us already? They should tell us the next 5 years in advance. This guessing is making me crazy....

It's got to be a warmer or mild climate, and spring has obvioulsy arrived already there. The clues point to this also. So no Kansas, or Michigan, or Vermont, or Massachusets, or any place where the outdoor fun and games wouldn't survive in the environment. Texas. Corpus Cristi, South Padre. cmon guys, you can do better than that.
Posted by Jenni Paolo – March 18, 2007 4:25 AM
From the foliage and flatness of the landscape in the builder video, I'm thinking that the 2008 Dream Home location is a Southern coastal state. Florida (twice), Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas provided home sites previously, so it's an educated guess that they won't be selected this time. In a post-Katrina world, it be cool to build in a Gulf state. Alabama or Mississippi's got my vote.
Posted by David – March 18, 2007 7:12 AM
After looking at Jack's video I definately think is on the east coast. I am going to say Savannah, GA.

I saw a Martha Washington chair listed in the 2007 HGTV home. Thought of Chestnut Grove, New Kent County, VA where Martha was born and lived for a time. However, agriculture, horseracing, golf and sportscar racing are the big draws. Mount Vernon, VA, is where she and George lived. This is where the Potomac River is, considered the "Nation's River. Captain John Smith visited the Potomac in 1608. He found fish "lying so thicke with their heads above water, (that) for want of nets, we attempted to catch them with a frying pan." The earliest Tidewater settlers in Maryland and Virginia existed primarily on huge supplies of Potomac crabs, oysters, and fish. The estuary was the lifeblood of many Native American and colonial cultures, and the Potomac was the major route for trade and commerce. Today, the Potomac watershed is home to more than 5 million people, and continues to support commercial fisheries and a variety of fish and wildlife in its estuary. If you go to this website http://www.potomacriver.org/about_potomac/arakawa.htm, you will see that Arakawa Sister River is well known for it's cherry blossoms. I believe I may have seen stems from these trees in the 2007 HGTV home. How did I do Jack? Debbie
Posted by Debbie Williams – March 18, 2007 3:07 PM
Because of the broken shell pathway and the banyan looking trees, as well as the weathered wood bench he is sitting on, I'm going to say its Captiva Island, or Sanibel Island Florida.

Well I don't think it is Florida since we don't have rocks anywhere near that size here in Florida. Might be northern California.

Jack Thomasson - There was something lacking in the new home and hopefully we can fix it for next year.
You managed to make a house that it totally inaccessible. Even with one room there are even levels-stair up or down. There is no way to get in and out of the house, participate in the many activities available.
Nothing has to be totally accessible just certain key areas in the home.
I am hoping to see a better job in the 2008 house.
I would be happy to help.

song about kansas, thats my guess.
Lyrics: Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Chorus:
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
How often at night, when the heavens are bright
With the light from the glittering stars
I've stood there amazed, and asked, as I gazed,
If their glory exceeds that of ours.
Chorus
The air is so pure, and the zephyrs so free
And the breezes so balmy and light
I would not exchange my home on the range
For all the cities so bright.
Posted by jo – March 18, 2007 11:08 PM
second guess. I had trouble viewing things. but if there is buffalo. and someone said something about neighbors......... cold here though now. go by this lyrics.
(Mule Named Sal)
I've got an old mule and her name is Sal
Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good old worker and a good old pal
Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal
We've hauled some barges in our day
Filled with lumber, coal, and hay
And every inch of the way
We know from Albany to Buffalo
Low bridge, everybody down
Low bridge for we're coming to a town
And you'll always know your neighbor
And you'll always know your pal
If you've ever navigated on
The Erie Canal.
well see
albany to buffalo

First post didn't go through. So this is my fourth.
My second guess is Kansas.
Oh,give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play;
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Oh, give me a land where the bright diamond sand
Flows leisurely down the stream;
Where the graceful white swan goes gliding along
kansas song. the sunflower state.....

If you are building in WA
I would like to express my dismay at the unfortunate land use in Washington. The land is being peace-mealed into an ecologically degraded and socially meaningless dystopia.
Our careless, greedy and politically expedient choices that we make today will hurt our children. I cannot begin to under stand why we are not taking an honest and serious comprehensive approach toward a truly sustainable future that respects the interconnected workings of the natural world as a critical element of human wellbeing. We as humans watch to much TV, consume and want to be rich even we we do not have the capability of doing it for a life time. We let our egos get the best of us, we trick ourselves in to believing that BIG is better and MORE is the only way to true happiness.
I wish just for once in this world that if there was going to be one consumer show on TV that was going to make a difference, it would be for the environment. Not for the greedy human who thinks they need BIGGER AND BETTER.
And if the HGTV show is going to spend 2.5 million dollars on a house that is four thousand square feet they might want to put that money into run down slums and help real people who work hard but do not have the money or credit to have a home of there own.
When you come in and build homes that are 2.5 million dollars it only leads to one problem
(MORE SUBDIVISIONS THAT MOST WORKING CLASS WORKERS
CAN NOT AFFORD)So I want to know who wins? The average paying teacher, the bus driver, small town business owner, wetlands planner, who? We are stuck in limbo because we make to much for help, or not enough.
In the end, it will not be about money for a rich man’s pocket. In the end money will not buy back environmental and cultural health. Forests, streams and agricultural land, along with vital strands of our social fabric will be buried under a mislaid patchwork of exurban sprawl.
While developers are destroying land, they are also making life pretty unhealthy for humans stuck commuting. Ask yourself is money everything? Or, can I not afford to do the right thing by setting new laws that protect our land, wildlife, and our health? Every time we throw up another subdivision and rape the land of it natural function, you lose. You cannot promise that the homes are going to last a lifetime and grow into a sustainable community that works both for the environment and for the everyday human.
Sincerely,
Jenny Otto

With the fish finder and poles, and the topography behind the blog, I'd say he's somewhere on the East Coast. Maine? The Virginias? Although with that vine, I'm going to have to narrow it down to someplace more southern. Say, North or South Carolina. That's my best guess anyway.
I wish they'd build a cave house. That would be different and really neat. And something that would really fit into the topography of Western Mass./ Vermont/ New Hampshire. Even upstate New York.
That would be fun!

I think the location could be on one of the outer islands of Hawaii. Maybe on the Big Island on the Kohala coast. If it's not I suggest you look into this area in the future, it is not only BEAUTIFUL but it has the most pristine environment I know of in the United States. Island archetecture and design brings the outside in and celebrates a culture of incredible grandeur. Aloha ke Akua, Debbie

I know that the best fly fishing is in Montana and the Great Smoky Mountains....but of recent I have learned that Vermont is also an idea spot. Whereever I know it will be another "Dream House" You do a wonderful job as we all have seen in the past. I wish it were in Florida and that I would win.....because I plan on retiring in Florida. I a from TN and very glad to see that someone from TN won. It does give you hope that someday it may be possible to "snag a win." Your family must be proud of the work you do, as a viewer it is always a pleasure to view your houses. I for one am much more impressed with the designs that the decor.....but as usual,I am sure it will be magnificent......
Oh by the way,I like everyone else am guessing, as you do not give a great view in the video and mine does not have a sound, Was that part of the tease? ummm Let's see. I think I am going with Vermont. Good luck with the next project.

I have traveled across the fifty states and California (northern) is by far the most beautiful state of them all. I would love to see a dream home built in this state. I love the beauty of the west. Arizona and Nevada would be excellent choices as well.
Posted by Sandra Rodriguez – March 19, 2007 11:04 AM
I just want to suggest a dream home! My ideal home would be a nice horse ranch 20 acres or less. There should be a 6 or 8 barn with everything you need to care for a horse, wash rack, tack room, office, indoor riding arena, there should be mare stalls and windows to watch them foal, outdoor walker. A barn that is as nice as the house. "My idea barn would be a barn house."If not a barn house then a bunk room in te barn. It should have a pasture with a stream, fences and cross fences. There should be an outdoor riding arena.
The house should donote Western when you walk in. Nice western funiture and decor with a SouthWestern theme. The kitchen should be chili peppers. The fireplace should be stone with Natural wood mantels. There should be a huge deck over looking the pasture with a hot tub off the main bedroom suite. The bathrooms and kitchens should scream tiles. The family room should be hardwood with a center Southwestern rug.
There should also be a tennis court on the propety for those who love tennis and horses.
Now for the location........not Texas!, an everyday Joe can not compete with those big guys in the cattle and horse industry. It should be either in Tennessee somewhere near the Georgia line. There are beautiful area here...or in Georgia or even Florida. Texas is gorgeous but we could have our own little Texas in Georgia or Tennessee. Extravagant but managable for a middle income family after they win. So many times People can't afford to keep the homes. Now the quarter a mil........sure helps.......Thanks for your time.

I think it should be in the Carolinas'. These two states have so much to offer visitors an residents alike. The weather is generally mild and the imagination can be unlimited with respect to house design. I'd really like to see the finished product situated nearby my hometown of Conway, SC.

It's MS, maybe LA. I live in MS, and all the clues fit, the video too. I guess MS, LA, AL could be any of the three, they all have the same climate, etc...I think MS would be a great place, building a dream home here after Katrina would be grand, we could really use something like this, I know, I know everone is tired of hearing about Katrina, but it's always LA, sorry neighbors, but just because we are not as big as New Orleans doesn't mean we don't exist...anyway got a little off topic, but it's MS all the way!!!!!

After watching the video, I am thinking somewhere on Florida or Gulf coast. Someplace where a lot of fishing can be done :) Another thought occurred to me when thinking about this. Why does it have to be a land based home? Maybe the new dream home might be an awesome houseboat with everything on it ! ! Just need to prepare an amazing place to moor it !
Posted by Craig – March 19, 2007 3:47 PM
Dear Thomasson
I think the nexts dream home should be in Oregon.
Posted by Sean – March 19, 2007 4:02 PM
I was settled on a waterfront area in / around Kansas from the clues in the game room during the giveaway but now I'm totally hung up on the clue about the view being similar but from a different perspective. Opposite side of the great divide? Valley or canyon location rather than eye level with the tree tops like out the balcony in 2007? Utah? Nice luxury "dream home" developments at Steeplechase Corner Canyon alongside the Wasatch Natl Forest and Silver Creek homes in Park city or Provo.

Based on the footage from the house planner and the limited fireplace use I would say the Florida panhandle or possibly one of the Carolinas...it really doesn't matter we just want to see the finished product...we know it will be beautiful.

I think that it would be fabulous if the dream home was built on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Mississippi! It is a flourishing location since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the place almost 2 years ago! It offers beautiful beaches, breathless scenery of wetlands, rivers, bays, and streams! Building a dream home on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi would give the folks of Mississippi one more reason why to continue to rebuild their land! . . . afterall, if the HGTV Dreamhome is there, they should be ALSO!!

FORT MORGAN, ALABAMA (I haven't seen this one guessed). The foliage and background remind me of the area. Gorgeous and on Alabama's beautiful coastline!

Virginia is for lovers! Has anyone considered the beautiful state of Virginia? I don't think it has been eliminated yet. Virginia has everything from the ocean to the mountains and beautiful lakes in between. Smith Mountain Lake would be a trully wonderful place for a dream home.

Jack, the area looks like it has an infrastructure and yet still soft and gentle.I would hope that your in Bluffton SC. The area is growing yet the locals still have their oyster roasts, church get togethers, art, theatre, afmily. The business district is close yet far enough away. Most here are transplants, who treasure the southern hospitality. Check the area out, give Bluffton SC 29910 a try, a place to call home.

I think the new "Dream Home2008" will be in
Florida. Just let me win it next year, I'll move to where it is!
Posted by BEVERLY RIDDLE – March 20, 2007 4:21 PM
I think it will be in New Jersey, just because we are having snow and slush here in the Northeast it does not mean the Jersey shore had it. Plus he could have filmed this before winter started, it would be great to have it at the shore considering I am from Pennsylvania and It would be close to home if I should win. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Judging from the states that it is not going to be in and the video by Jack it looks like it may be in Johnson County, Kansas.

But Hawai`i should definitely be the choice of one of your future builds.

Can the next site for the 2008 HGTV Dream Home be on the lake next to Hope, Arkansas? It is a beautiful place with wonderful people. My husband and I use to vacation their when my Aunt and Uncle lived in Washington, Arkansas. Great fishing, swiming, and boating. Beautiful "Seasons"!
Posted by Cynthia – March 24, 2007 10:28 AM
I believe it will be located in Coastal Georgia between Savannah and St Mary's, why wouldn't we need a dream house in an area made for sweet dreams...gorgeous.
Posted by nan – March 24, 2007 12:10 PM
I would like to see it built in Idaho since we have such a beautiful state, but you don't very often hear much about us. We have wonderful recreation year around here. We truely do get to experience all 4 seasons here.

A suggestion for a future Dream Home site: The most beautiful spot on the West coast of the USofA is Brookings, OR. Just north of the CA/OR border, on the ocean, beautiful Brookings has it all...fishing, hunting, canoeing, beachcombing, golf courses to challenge your game, and the list goes on and on.
Posted by Ang Kunzelmann – March 26, 2007 1:38 AM
Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri is the most beautiful around and soooo much to do! Also, close to Branson and smack dab in the middle of Missouri. That would be an AWESOME place to build a home!
From the looks of the video I am guessing it is not Midwestern. Looks beachy.

Your homes are outstanding and I love the workmanship, you have chosen great locations and I would love to win a home. South Florida great! Jack are you focusing on energy efficient, green homes, solar, wind generated power. My dream is to own a home with some of these enviromental friendly options. Keep up the good work

Now that you're doing Florida, one of these years you need to head to the opposite corner of the country and build in Alaska! Somewhere on the Kenai for great fishing - Girdwood for great skiing - great settings and opportunities for unique architecture abound all over the state. Plus, who wouldn't want to win a dream home in "The Last Frontier!"

I hope you'll consider Oklahoma as a future HGTV Sight, especially on Grand Lake.... It is one of the largest and best lakes in Oklahoma and is home to some of the most beautiful lake homes I have ever seen. There is also several other lakes In Oklahoma that would be just as good a location as any. Please consider coming to Oklahoma, we are a beautiful state and home of the O.U. Sooners and some of the best B.Q.Q. you'll ever eat.
The closest you have come to us was Tyler Texas, which is one of my favorite HGTV Houses by the way. (love the boat house).
Other Lake areas:
Tenkiller
There is a lake up by OKC-that has the bluest water.
Skiatook lake (currently under new development)
Gibson
Oolagah
Keystone (not so nice).
Many more.... please come check them out.
God Bless.

Wow, the new location looks beautiful. My new husband loved last year's home, but I definitely would prefer the beach. Just a suggestion, and perhaps Jack's already thought of it, but perhaps a "beach" style mudroom off those great porches would be in order. After all, you don't want to bring all the water and sand in the house! Oh, and for the inside, I'm thinking some light turquoise somewhere...
Posted by Chloe – April 28, 2007 7:26 PM
I can't wait to see what the home will look like when it all comes together. I would loved to win, something like this but it won't ,but I am happy who ever get's it but sure love coming to the HGTV page, everyday just do see whats going on and here how the house? but any thing Jack Thomasson makes will be beautiful.I am sure , and by the way he is not a bad looking man. :) Donna

I think a nice location would be somewhere in North Dakota(The Badlands!), Minnesota(Lakes area or Crow Wing River), or any State that has not had a Dream Home.

The New Foundland of Southern Oregon has taken over the vineyard and winery business from Napa Valley 12 New Vineyards in a 100 sq. mile area.
The Vineyard Estate Dream Home Would be Amazing
Seriously the Wine business has taken off here and The Applegate Valley is absolutely stunning.
This is an easy pick for 2008 Dream Home.

I hope that each time you build you remember that in the 1960's 1 in 10 person's were handicapped, in the 70's 1 in 7, in the 80's and 90's 1 in 6, in 2000 1 in 5, it is now about 1 in 4. disability stikes everyone, rich or poor, young and old. I love all of your design ideas and hope that my child or my mother will be able to view them first hand.

The interior of the Deam House are all low-end appliances! And, what with that frig being placed in the panty? Can you open the door without banging the l? One would think that Jack would have used some the modern , high-end appliances like we see daily of the HGTV shows. Disappointing bedroom and bath! Not even a jacuzzi tub.

As a female being in the building industry for many years, (not the last 10), I see things that I think(?) most people don't. You know, the stuff beyond the cosmetic part of a house. I appreciate the quality and craftsmanship that goes into residential building. AND ITS ALL OVER THIS HOUSE! It's nice to see.

I will take a wild guess and say that it's going to be in up state New York or maybe Maine. Maine is absolutely one of the most beautiful states that I have ever seen!

When I win,it would be immediately placed onto the market and sold to the highest offer; pending that our family can 1st enjoy a 2 week vacation in it. We will build the 2004 Dream Home on a waterfront lot overlooking Charleston SC; that's my dream! We understand that owning the Florida Key's Dream Home would be impossible Dream to keep; but this Dream wouldn't.

After looking at the clues, I think the next Dream Home will be in the White Mountains of Arizona or Flagstaff, close by. There are a lot of clues that tie to this area. We'll see if I am right.
