Step Inside HGTV Dream Home 2012
Good morning and happy December 1!
As promised, today we are proud to present the 360-degree interactive virtual tour of HGTV Dream Home 2012, our modern rustic ranch home nestled in the shadow of Utah’s gorgeous Mount Timpanogos. Please take time today to click through slideshows, read captions, zoom around in the 360-degree virtual tours and watch our exclusive videos, starring design expert Brian Patrick Flynn. And then, after you’ve completely immersed yourself in all things HGTV Dream Home, vote for housewarming gifts for the home winner and enter for a chance to win an identical gift set.
On another important note, I hope you’ve noticed an update to our blog. Now all three giveaway programs — HGTV Dream Home, HGTV Green Home and HGTV Urban Oasis — are under one roof, so you can more easily stay informed, post comments and hop back and forth between categories. We hope to expand our coverage with posts from guest bloggers, regular features and more. Enjoy and please let us know what you think of Dreams Happen.
And a special treat for you on this tour launch day: a quiz. Remember, months ago we introduced you to a dream destination quiz within the blog? We’ve ported that quiz into a brand-new format, and added a bunch of bells and whistles. Take the quiz and share it with friends — and, most importantly, tell me if it accurately assesses your personality.
FYI: At the top of this post you will see my absolute, all-time favorite photo of HGTV Dream Home 2012. Our photographers Bruce Cole and Eric Perry are geniuses. This pic was snapped by Eric right after sunset. Don’t you wish you could hop right in that hot tub?

YOUR SYSTEM IS FLAWED. I have to log in all information every time I enter contest. ????????
Each time I look at this house, I am inspired to change my home into a dream home. I get inspired to feel like the smallest space can be made to feel luxurious. It is all in the placing of furniture and items to get the feeling of comfort and serenity. Thank you HGTV.
Last night when I went to bed, I imagined I was sleeping in the Master Bedroom Bed, the doors were open to the deck and I could hear the river. Good luck to the winner, that person is going to enjoy wonderful dreams in that bed.
My biggest concern would be finding a job if I were to win the perfect house. I'm sure taxes, upkeep and everyday expenses would be a fortune. Are there job opportunities in and around this location? Just being realistic!! I am from ND (grew up in Salmon, Idaho and Missoula, Montana) and the unemployment rate is the lowest in the nation, so this would be my biggest concern. Also, I think the house is perfect the way it is, don't change a thing.
Oh, what a beautiful home this is, I have voted and with much prays I surely would love to have this, never had
a new home in my life but would love to have this one. Thanks for showing this very nice and good work .
I want to win my dream home !! new year= new oppurnties ' come on 2012 ' new dream + new life!! HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED !!!!
Its like you read my head ! You gaze to understand a fantastic deal relating to this, just like you wrote the novel inside it too.
Hi there, i really feel i observed you been to my personal web site for that reason i situated ?go back your favor?
It would be an easy switch out to add a bedroom and move the waders to the mud room. I haven't toured the mudroom yet, but I imagine it could happen. Or, you could make the changing room your quilting studio!
Back to the idea that it would be fun if the DH winner created their own blog, they could post the changes they make to the house to suit their lifestyle — converting the changing room to a bedroom or craft space, or taking out some of the TV's — seriously, with all the great scenery out the window and all the outside decks, who's going to be inside watching all those TVs? (other than our favorite shows on HGTV, of course.)
OK, I take it back a little about the easy switch out, because I think they put the sauna in the spot where the closet was going to go, so now it's a bit harder to change back to a bedroom. Unless, of course, the owner put a clothes rod hanger across the top of the sauna. I wish I had the winky face emoticon at this moment. I'll just have to do this:
How old school.
Oh well.
I'll also echo your deep sigh of contentment: <sigh>
There is a bathroom there- but the 360 to it isn't working but the photos are!
Let check I missed something!
EDIT I don't get it either!
EDIT AGAIN I remembered – they had to put it in to cover the range hood ductwork.
I'd probably take over the changing room… b/c it's not taking a bedroom out of use and I think there need to be as many bedrooms as possible for all the guests that will come on down. Which bedroom do you want when you visit me, Wyoming?
It's been many moons since I made that trip to Granite — once in summer for camping, and once in winter for snowmobiling. Is it still wonderfully rustic?
Well I'd only need one gallon of paint!
What a happy sound, reminds me of my cat when she snuggles in front of the wood stove in her favorite basket.
The family room photo's state the couch converts to a queen sleeper sofa.
I was thinking the changing room would be a great home office…complete with sauna for relaxation
Look under the link to Photos for the Family Room. It's a pint-sized club-house for kids, complete with TV and 4 sleeping bags.
If this space is used for the Kids Bedroom, where is the nearest bathroom? Where do you think the children's clothes would be stored?
I was wondering about the floor plan too. I was getting lost and confused about where I was in the house as I was looking at the tour. I'm already obsessed with this house!
You know, that's a good idea. Who wants to tie flys in that room anyhow? That's what the garage is for!
I think it's more for grandma sleep-overs rather than permanent little guests, but maybe I can check it out during a live tour in January!
Go back and view the photos for the Family Room. It shows the Kids Alcove in Green/Blue Strip and Wall Hung Flat Screen TV. I've asked the question of whether a standard size twin bed would fit in there for a 7 year old boy. At least for a few years until he outgrows the play area. Then he can move into the changing room and regain it as the 4th bedroom. Hope this helps.
You think that's it? Ductwork behind your head while you're sleeping?!
Wow, good memory. I absolutely don't remember that at all. So, is the duct work at the top, and the curtain just softens the wall? I guess I'm still confused a little, but at least this helps clarify. Thanks, Nebraska!
It absolutely did not disappoint. The more I look at it the more gorgeous it becomes. She had some well-thought out plan. The room sparkles with daubs of white against beige. I've calmed myself down and don't want to get all revved up again yet, but thanks for what you said.
That Great Room is just gorgeous. Love the ikat and how she repeats the colors into the dining room and guest room and foyer spaces. Love the Rinnai fireplace and the mix of menswear textures in the furnishings, and the way it sits in the middle of the space with empty space all around. Very cozy.
lol…I can see the comments now. WHEW!
For sleepovers, we don't need closets anyway b/c they go home, they don't move in (hopefully).
Yes remember the photos – and when the guy did the walk through he reminded us that it was because of a kitchen issue. This photo #10 shows it and the photo #1 shows the floor plan-
http://www.hgtvremodels.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream…
Is that where you'd put your studio, or would you still look at the Americana Room upstairs for your creative space?
I'd say the master sitting room for owner creative space….
I'd like that space for a home office or craft space, too! Maybe add another sleeper sofa in there for guests, so people will stop stressing out about lack of bedrooms. I think there are plenty sleeping spaces, but I probably haven't considered distant relatives who would come out of the woodwork if I won and moved into this Dream Home!!
If it helps, until they get the interactive plan in (I hope), here's the previous floorplan that I posted for someone else: http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20…
But Bee…. lots of grands live in another town or out of state. Holidays, especially, seem to include family groups that stay more than one day.
Don't promise to be silent. I loved reading your thoughts. My first stop on the tour was the Great Room, and it did NOT disappoint, did it?
That's a good plan but it's such a pretty room "as is," my favorite space so far anyway. I might have to find a way to get the sewing space somewhere else. I think that changing space is good, hard to see how big it is with the sauna cabinet in there.
Where did Linda stash the chocolate? If that's missing, I know we can get homemade fudge "to die for" at the Homestead Resort gift shop in MIDWAY.
They can store their "stuff" in those hall closets and for bathroom, they could use that changing room, it's closest and they'll use the sauna and hot tub all the time so they will go right through there. Just an idea. I know what you mean, they will come at Christmas and probably stay 10-14 days so you need to plan on that.
How many grands do you have, granintx? I only have one, but I'm way WAY under Midway "standards" as far as the count goes.
That reminds me. You remember when I told you about my friend who gets dive training for her instructor's certification at the Homestead Crater? She's going there tomorrow for the weekend. I told her that she had to go by our Dream Home!
Oh dear, you mentioned my other weakness…Fudge. Tis the season to dig out our Christmas goody recipes. I told my son we would make Christmas goodies together this year. He's 12 and wants to take goodies to all his friends. So cute.
I forgot about the diving mecca– Homestead Crater. Is the resort and crater one and the same?? I love water
The photos for the Master Bedroom Sitting Area (#1 of 18) mention enjoying a cup of coffee, though I didn't catch a coffee bar per se within any of the room photos. More research is needed, but first I need a cup of tea to re-energize. It's been a long day trying to take in all of this wonderful new Dream Home information.
I have a feeling that this one will always be your favorite, Midway, no matter how gorgeous the next homes are!!
Hi Wyoming, this afternoon I actually had Larson sitting on my lap as I watched the 360 tours and he loved it! He “talked” the whole time and I think he liked the “fish-eye” effect of the camera. So far, his fav space is the master suite but I think he might also have the hot tub deck a close second!
You're right, I went back and looked and they actually talk about it covering the ducts.I'd completely forgotten.
Great catch — I totally missed that the first time. I think I was so enamored with that beautiful wall color that I didn't even see that duct!
The sauna was the first thing I saw this morning and I was really surprised. I wonder if it runs off the solar grid too? How nice to come in from the cold and look forward to that sauna.
Definitely, she has to go by and report to you. BTW, I heard the Homestead is going to be closing soon for renovations, not the crater, though.
Yes, the crater is right there at the resort. Soon the Homestead resort will be closing for renovations for a few months but the crater will be open for diving.
Cami, if you win it, I'll bring you an assortment of various flavors of Homestead fudge, with my compliments!
Well, we must investigate! I'm doing the Dream Home in “short bursts,” 15 minutes at a time, otherwise it's just too stimulating and I might go crazy!
I hadn't even thought of it as a spa room but that's brilliant!
Either one of you can win and I'd be happy! Or any of these other great bloggers, of course.
10-14 ??? I hope they won't stay that long!!
lol….
Well, not your sister anyway.
15 minute intervals isn't enough time. Can I do 30 minute intervals instead? If I do that, I won't get any homework done. Better stick to the 15 minute rule. Thanks Beehive!!
We could have an ALL DAY CHRISTMAS COOKIE BAKING PARTY!!!! YAY!!!!!! I would enjoy that A LOT!!!
Oh my goodness, Brenda, I was just walking in here to the computer and thinking about how much I would like some chocolate chip cookies!
LOL!!! Beehive!!!!
You had me laughing so hard, you brought me to tears!!! Literally!!!
I can make some chocolate chip cookies for you too if you would like!! Boy, I better start making a list!!!
Yes I do know what "TMI" stands for! I am semi-computer literate!
Beehive, isn't it wonderful; how about the master suite, the colors, the furniture, the dainty chandeliers? Oppulent, exotic. Seriously.
You know, if somebody wanted to do the B & B idea in the house, that spa room would be a great amenity.
Think about it, the water table and the river being right there, a basement wouldn't suit.
The sauna would be extra lovely to use during the winter. Hubbie and I stayed at the Invited Inn in Midway, a lovely B&B that had a sauna AND a steam shower in every room. Our anniversary is in March and there was a foot of snow on the ground. We used both and felt very spoiled.
I know Invited Inn, exactly where it is, up by Zermatt and Homestead. Beautiful property. Midway is a very romantic place. We also have a March wedding anniversary, the 29th it will be 43 years in 2012.
We've already decided that!!
bee, the text with the guest rm. photos mention the B & B inspiration…someone has been reading our blogging ideas……….
You are so observant!!!
I love the storage! Did you see the underground storage in the entry way? It houses the 3 heaters.
bee, this project has kind of been "your baby" with all the energy you have invested, and we so appreciate everything you contributed the past year….there are no hearts or smiley faces to put at the end, lol…I wonder if we are going to have to write out "heart", " happy winking face" etc. ?LOL
quilting and sauna steaming at break intervals ! You'd be the loosest, most relaxed quilter in the state, lol!
Check out the wording in the family room photos re the 2 lap tops…sounds to me like they are included in the prize package ? At some future point, I will have to read the prize statement…..
bee, did you have a teen aged wedding ??
When you win, Nebraska, I will send you another gallon or two of paint for the powder room–eek; it is in a photo covering the foyer area. It's a green shade that reminds me of the 2011 Urban Oasis.
In the master bedroom photo gallery, the text attempts to explain the ductwork area.
Not so much an issue for the men as for the women probably, and my spouse will definitely enjoy the tub. But both she and my daughter agree that something would need to be done to obscure the glass. Even if it's just the bottom panes.
Right now I have kids…can you board them? Just teasing! Both of my boys really want a dog. We would get a dog if we lived there. German Shepard most likely. I do have a cat she is about 9 years old. The Dream Home is in my dream vacation spot, and the only place we would really visit is home. I would take the dog home with me. I would leave the cat with my parents or sister before I go.
I have never been anywhere for an extended amount of time to worry about that, I guess. Two days, MAX!!
Thanks, I'll go back and look. I still think the curtain is a bit of an odd solution, but it's not that big of an issue for me.
Yeah, that's a green color that would be tough for anyone to like, and since Nebraska hates green, she would probably walk into the Winners' Weekend with paint in hand!!
Last night I thought about the house, how it would feel to live there, what I would change… it is fun to have a dream, the whole process has been a joy.
Just so I don't drip on the fabric!
Yes the laptops are included. I read that and I also read the prize statement as to value, etc. It's a little smaller than last year but still magnificent. I wouldn't turn it down!
Thanks, LL! I was 23. These days, I don't know if that would be considered “young” to get married or not.
Yes and you know what? BrendainKs is all over that idea already!
Where does it say that? I wasn't able to find it. Ok. Sorry, I see it now!
I need to go back and look-see if there are doors. I just remember reading that the bath tub was a "focal point" from the master suite and I thought "YIKES!"
One of our neighbors has two young boys and her husband just brought home a puppy, I think a golden retriever. They are a nice dog but big. Her reaction was “oh no, more work for me.” At least if you had the dream home, there's plenty of outdoor space for the dog. I just don't have the inclination for owning a dog at this point in my life.
After this year, who knows? It's a fun ride, it will be hard to top. I agree with Coop, we probably like best the dream home in our own backyard.
I just re-read what I wrote yesterday. Of course, they're not going to "renovate" the crater! lol
Love The Fit Stop! It's an essential part of our lifestyle. But I will need a quilt room. Hmmm.
Hey, I just noticed that now YOU are "99" !! Get ready to break out the champagne and Frango mints!
Twice a day for me and twice a day for my dear husband… it's a family affair.
I homeschool, so taking care of a dog would be school work
Well I admire you and your kids would love a dog. And out here, most people have BIG dogs. There's even a book about all the various dogs in Park City, and their "personalities," in color, with pictures.
Well that's about to change. BTW, the name of my cat was MAX! lol
I've got my DH on board to enter the DH twice a day, too! We were watching KSL5 News last night, and they did a brief story about the DH being in Midway. My hubby asked me, "when do I need to start entering?" I told him how much I loved this house this year, and he said he'd do his part!
It's a great space, though, and I did like the decoration in there and the access to the back yard.
What the heck? You guys don't like "spring" green? Linda will say "it's the color of those willow trees when they first leaf out."
Like my mama would say, "all the more for me." Isn't it required to log into Intense Debate anymore to post on here? This is the only blog I really have ever found that I LIKE b/c people aren't going around willy-nilly trying out "one-liner" each other.
Yep they need the sign in back.
BrendainKS, you sound like my daughter minus the kids. She says right now, her life is too hectic with her projects and papers being due. Then, she calls four times within one day to discuss gifts. lol
Congrats to being in school AND being a mom. That is quite an accomplishment!
Hi, they showed us that awhile back. It's for the furnaces and there might be room under there for a few other things.
It's a space under the stairs so there might not be enough headroom. just a thought.
oh ok
deff beautiful
I LOVE it too!!!
Yes, I sure am!!!
I think Midway is the perfect area for a B&B (and have been there as a paying guest already–Invited Inn, Johnson Mill, Woodland Farmhouse, and the Homestead). It's close enough to Salt Lake that you have access to about a million potential customers that are within a 60 minute drive and as a customer, it's far enough away to give you that vacation feeling without having to drive a long, long way first! Would the covenants and restrictions actually allow you to have paying guests?
Thank you Trish! About ten years ago I was in college the first time and had two really young children to raise by myself. I REALLY don't know how I did it, but we survived. And I will survive this round also.
Thanks for your support!!! *Hugs!!*
I think we can make the changing room into a quilt room!
Good question about the HOA rules, WishingforIt. I'm sure someone will look that up. I remember that somebody saw a rule on there about restricting overnight parking outside, so that may be an issue.
Many people from Utah come up to Midway for short get-away's b/c of the scenic ambience and recreation. The car parking might be an issue but other than that, as long as you don't hang up a sign, I think you can have a home business.
I think the guest suite on the first floor is lovely, so I'll book that, if it's OK with you. Do you need a security deposit or a credit card to hold the reservation?
May I book a room too? My first druthers is the Master House oh, Suite, oh that
would mean I won. On second thought, any room will do!!!
Not so much of a problem with tangling, once in awhile maybe. I just shake them out. Today I had my baby grandson “help” me, I'd hand him the wet towel and he'd toss it into the dryer. He loved it!
Right now my laundry is on my patio…NOT FUN! I dream of doing more loads at 1 time and INSIDE! I play that with my toddle Beehive! He loves to help with laundry.
You must live in a warmer climate than we do. No way could the laundry be outdoors.
It's a real bear when the washer is needing a part. Granted, LOVED going to the laundromat and getting several loads done at once. But, it's the hauling it back and hanging some on the patio. But this fortunately took place during summer. Even the bad events have those silver linings. And I was sooooooooo grateful!
rachelyoyo, I am very sad that you are disappointed in our home. Maybe next year you will feel
better about DH2013. Most of the group here try to keep this blog on the positive side. We heard
you.
On the main page I think?
Frango mints. My Oh My! Remember Frederick & Nelson and their Christmas windows, Alice? Funny but the one thing I remember about that store was that when i was little, they actually had elevator operators in costume.
Okay, you can have the master when you visit and I'll take the Americana. Wyoming can have the "serenity" bedroom. You get the "see-thru" bathroom if you take the master suite, you know that don't you?!
I love you and your positive outlook!!!
I thought I saw a bowl of silver chocolate kisses in one of the great room pics. would have been next to the couch on one of the cream ceramic tables. I will try and go find which pic.
Yep, look at the Great Room pics #26 or #29 in the glass bowl on the left next to the couch.
As long as you all are inside I will be OK. You cannot see inside that easily can you? It is hard to see inside my house in the day time, but at night if I leave the curtains open, my neighbors say hi to me!
Since we dealt with the NM glass already, I will put up some nice contact paper on the glass from my shoulders down!
I love blue!!!
What a trip down memory lane! I even remember when Nordstrom was just a small shoe store, nothing special, and the big store across the street was called “Best” and eventually they merged and it was called “Nordstrom Best” and finally dropped the Best. I remember that doorman and that Frederick's used to have the most wonderful fabric department. It all closed in 1992, we lived in Tacoma then. Thanks so much. You and Soney have a great weekend, Alice. xo
That's a great idea, I'm going to remember about teaching the shapes.
Yeah I saw that later. What a relief, we can't be without chocolate in the Dream Home.
I must agree that I always enjoyed the "floor plans" too. Perhaps they'll add them in. PLEASE, pretty please HGTV?? It really does help us know & understand the home and it's layout. I too find myself going back & forth trying to visualize how everything flows.
not to mention the shower area windows, placed so low (AND they OPEN !) that it lends the possibility of being able to "moon" anyone unlucky enough to be down by the river and looking back toward the house, LOL. ( .I've has lots of fun imagining startled fishermen).
Hee hee–that's why that color would be so great on TOWELS, as an accent color…I love willow trees (Lind is my middle name, Swedish for "willow" )
Now you are here on the blog officially, Trish ! Good thing, too, since the Blog Cabin blog is in apparent hibernation !
Well said, L-Lind!
Or, you'd be able to "moon" your own guests at the hot tub, LOL!
Oh, I think it will be a while. I seemed to be 98 for a looooooooong time. I was 98 degrees = normal temperature, but now my fever is starting to rise – LOL. (or as LLColeman says, winky smiley face).
What happened?
Well they aren't listening when we say we want MORE bedrooms! We had hope when we saw the foor plans this year of a 5 bed potential. It didn't happen.
LOL. I stayed red-faced until it died down, of course. Many people took my side. It was a point well-made..but with too much um…emphasis.
Loved the story about when the gave away the fur coats!
See, there's a Swedish theme… the "Lind" green and the sauna. Maybe it's your year, LL.
Because it goes well with the Kansas golden fields!
You are very smart!!!
Yep! NOW I am.
Ashley, do you know when the hour long special on HGTV will be? I assumed Dec 1, which has already passed, but I still cannot find it. I would love to watch it! Thanks.
Cats!
I think it's usually January 1, or therabouts. Last year it was Jan. 1 in the evening, after the Rose Parade that HGTV airs (complete with a float about the Dream Home) in the morning. My guess is that it will be the same this year. They usually reveal the online photos and tours about a month ahead, so they're right on schedule!
The hour-long TV special is always on New Years Day. (January 1, 2012). I'm waiting to see it, too.
I had a feeling that was the case. Thanks for doing the research.
Thank you. A float? Terrific, more fun.. So, it coincides with the beginning of the sweepstakes? A whole month… Thanks.
Yeah, I don't really like sisal either, but some of the other area rugs are nice. I like the one in the master bedroom.
Oh absolutely, that carpet in the master bedroom is luxe!
That's an idea I had, also, overflow seating into the Great Room. The kitchen space is pretty tight.
Yup ! Some sort of expandable table for the great room….good point about the sponsors' appliances. I hope that of the 2 big appliances, freezer and fridge, that the one blocking the doorway to the hall is the freezer, and not the more frequently accessed fridge.( Good thing there is the drawer fridge built into the island, though.)
lol!!
Sometimes it takes a while for comments to show up.
Linda is the designer – Brian is just the host du jour.
Hi Missy, I tried to get back to you a few days ago, but Intense Debate, became a mild disussion and I couldnt get on. You asked about TO- well I cant tell you where yet, it might even be Studio City. I will keep you posted. I've gone from ranch country my favorite- to the environs of the outskirts of a big city. I just want to be in a place where I can grow alot of plants and veggies.
OK I found it at the bottom of page 6. Thank you ID and all the people who had anything to do with
our home. Everyone is Superior to all the rest!
I'm with you on those family room lights, same in the kitchen over the island.
I love the whole thing! I would NOT change a thing!
That is very cute, thanks for getting my Sunday morning off to a happy start.
Please tell me what you think.
*HUGS*
Yes, beehive, I would love a long analysis by you. You've been the heart and soul of this blog all thru the long summer and fall months. Can you tell us what you think?
Great room
Master Suite
The siting
Bee, Have a good day & thanks for not saying anything about my bad typing.
Once I got done painting the master sitting room I'd put lots of bookshelves in my new office space. I like the office area away from the general flow of people – but I have a laptop, notebook and tablet to take with me if I want to work in another area of the home.
I'll be finding a TV for the Great Room. I may try to move the dining area into the room and build another island with counter space and eating bar where it was in the kitchen. I love a large expanse of space with NO cooktop or sink for large cooking/sewing projects.
Agree, kesh, the separate freezer/fridge look user=friendly and they look good placed on either side of the backsplash area.
Yes the space can fit an adult -most of it anyway- maybe not my 6'5' son. If you look at the stripes on the wall you can gauge the size. I would probably make a larger door and add bunks on the back wall as visiting grandchild space. I'm sure I'd grab that TV for the Great Room. That would solve the some of my bedroom issues. If I could do that then I might be able to manage guests other than family.
We have a space under our stairs like that and you can stand up if you are really careful b/c of the slope.
Thanks Nebraska, love your idea of bunks under the slope, lessens the chance of accidently banging 'me head'!
Thanks, guys, I'll be looking for a spot for a piano… I know already my fave will be the master suite (but I might be surprised when I see everything). BTW, it's snowing today! Maybe this is the beginning of our winter.
Rachelyoyo, I agree with you all the way. I was totally disappointed with many things in this years dream home. To much BLUE correct, To many windows in the wrong places, kitchen open shelves bottom of stove, and the list of things go on and on. The decor is tacky for sure. This house reminds me of things you don't want in your home.
I thought of that, too, making the eating area into the great room. I like the idea of bookshelves but now I mostly read on my e-reader so maybe no changes there. I wouldn't change anything about the master suite but where is the coffee station? Has anybody found it yet?
I really keep thinking that I would only use the great room more if there were a TV there. I kind of think that both dining and living could coexist in the great room.
It's snowing here, your little grandsons would love it!
Yes they would & so would I.Wow,it must be beautiful there & at our Dream home ,when it's snowing. It's raining here in S.W. Ohio & I have the fireplace lit. Do you?
I think I'd go easy on the workout room idea. Just a treadmill and a space for an exercise/yoga mat would be fine, along with the comfortable chair Linda provided and the sauna.
I also prefer going to a gym, but in the dog days of summer or the wilder days of winter, having a treadmill at home at least gives me a chance to stretch my legs if I choose to hang out close to home.
Cool!!!
I love snow! Me and my son just got in from scooping snow……by hand.
I have a kindle as well but I still have books I have collected from my favorite authors for over 30-40 years AND loads of books from work. I think there is a rule that you can't be a professor without at least 300 books!
I used to have a great treadmill and an Air-Dyne bike and a Concept II rowing ergometer. And some free weights and benches. Too much for the changing room, so I'll stick with the gym. It's an easy 10 minute drive, good roads, and I like the energy of working out with other people.
I love my Kindle so much and probably read one book a week but there is something wonderful about holding that book… and, of course, I always need a book to read in the bubble bath! Right now I'm half way through The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.
Sounds good & I'm sure your star quilts are a work of art. Right now I am in the livingroom,in front of the fireplace, blogging on my laptop & dreaming of Midway dusted with snow! Thanks, Ways
Yes but where would we put the TV so you don't look at it all the time?
I didn’t mind the hosting part, but it was written right on the videos that he was the Interior Decorator! They could have just said Host.I had posted my accolades the day before.Have a great week-end Nebraska!
As far as the wind storms went, they were lighter in my area than forecast, thank goodness. Nothing more than lots of leaves, a lawn chair, a small car, and one dead 'possum floating in my pool. Well, I think the 'possum was dead. Either that, or it was just playing. Dead that is.
Most residents here don't hibernate in the winter. They DO, however, hiberate in the heat of the summer. Or get completely out of Dodge. (And no, I really don't have anything against Chrysler products. I mean that frontier town they're always talkin' about gettin' out of.)
The snowbirds generally fly in for the entire winter season — that is, from late November through March. At which time they regroup into dense flocks and head North, honking all the way home. (I think the honking is just to get even with all the locals who have honked at THEM all winter long for various driving infractions.)
I don't have any flashing lights on my car, by the way. I simply rely on various signals for the more serious incidents.
Happy Holidays!
I never thought of THAT! Jump in the river, roll in the snow, hop the fence, run into the sauna!
That is an issue. Remember how the Green Home covered the TV with pictures part of the time? That kind of system probably wouldn't work with the pictures over the fireplace, but that may be a good spot for it.
I think you got it right about the touches of blue in this Dream Home. They perfectly fit its location, location, location — reminding you of the Provo River's scenic beauty right in your own back yard.
The only thing missing is a pair of blue suede shoe-s, or slippers, for a perfect match.
(My first attempt at this comment was sent directly to the principal's office, as I completely forgot I can only mention one shoe at a time in the DH blog!)
absolutejn, I enjoyed your poetic description of dreaming in the great room very much. Perfectly said! And Coop, if I win I may just have to search eBay for a pair of blue suedes for my handsome hubby. You have such a discerning eye!
Thanks beehivestate, good to know the space could be maintained. The low door made me afraid it wasn't high enough to stand.
I'm sure your brain cells and DNA will do just fine for the final exams, Cami. Hopefully you'll have a bit of recovery time after that, and a minute to spare for the blog now and then.
Dreams, and Dream Homes, take a little extra effort, but it's well worth it in the long run!
Good luck with finals Cami! I know they can be stressful. I am going through them also.
I think the pint-sized Alice in Wonderland door to the kids "secret getaway" could be resized to make use of that space off of the Family Room for those who don't need the additional children's play/sleep area.
So many options there, whether for storage, crafts, TV room, wet bar, or ? (Assuming full-height ceilings, which it appears to be.)
I agree — amazing details in this home. I could see myself living there very easily, well, at least after taking care of the financial side of the transaction. Well worth it I'd say.
Who wouldn't want to live there? Well, inevitably, there's always a few holdouts, but then again, too few to mention.
Coop, if they only give one shoe, I prefer the left. Thanks. Be sure to relay my preference.LOL.
Also, I just happen to have a pair (That's TWO) quilted baby-blue satin slippers with a mary-jane strap. So I'm good to go, right?
Thank you, SID. Thanks to Linda for the brain power and talent that went into planning that decor! I've been out all weekend looking for something to upgrade my little apartment after the beauty of the great room.
Haul: crystal-like shell, and spiral and round shapes I put in a glass cube. I think the great room has them in a bowl on one of the drum side-tables. Extreme sparkle. Really pretty up close.
Brenda — I would put a "designer" 10 ft tree in the Great Room, and another "family" Christmas tree in the game/family room. Salt Lake just finished their Festival of Tree fundraiser for Primary Children's Hospital. With that cash prize, I'd make sure I bought one of those trees–all ready decorated, they deliver and set up. The problem would be where to store a 10ft tree after Christmas. An antique icebox sounds wonderful, BTW.
I agree LLColeman!
Do you think the 10 foot tree could be stored where the heaters and mechanical stuff is? I am sure there would be a little room for extras like Christmas Decorations.
At least, that's where I would put them.
I like your ideas WishingforIt!! And thank you for the icebox comment. My dad gave it to me one Christmas. He was moving to Wyoming and didn't want to take it with him. My sister and brother got a piece of furniture also, but they no longer have them.
Love the Festival of Trees fundraiser tree idea. You could make it a tradition, every year get a new one and then donate the tree after the holiday, that would be twice a blessing.
So what do you do when you want TV in daytime? Just watch somewhere else?
LL, how about one of those high "bistro" style tables that seats four? It would sure give you a better view of the river and people could pull the seats over to the island to help out or visit the cook.
How old are you? lol
You must have love in your heart and happy thoughts!!!
Hi Wishingforit. I just saw those ponds recently, now that the leaves are off the trees. It's a new development called FishHaven or something like that. I'll find out more and let you know.
Today Midway is COLD and even my fingers are stiff. Park City is even colder but they have beaucoup snow up on the hills so the locals are ecstatic.
nah nah nah- its a pet bed. My cats would love it.
I'm glad it's bigger than the pet beds in last years D.H.& I like the placement of it better too.My dog would love it.
Gotta say, that is a handsome animal bed!
lol!! I could probably pass as your daughter!
Do you think it's menopause?
I was thinking the same thing while I am sitting here sweating. LOL
My bad! Of course! cats would love it! However, knowing cats, they might also love nesting on your pillows, one of the sofas, chairs, or anywhere but the designated space.
That's the problem with cats. They think they can sleep whereever they land. I would miss mine though if they were gone.
Right On !!!!!
The laundry room for Terri? That's a thought, Cami, although I'm not sure how she'd take to working as a laundry attendant. She'd prefer to chew on the socks a little before putting them into the washing machine, which could quickly put a dent into my sock selection.
The Gecko adoption is another brilliant idea. Terri is a real bargain hunter, and she'd definitely approve of getting the most insurance on her pet bed for the money. She does, however, chase after lizards in the yard, so again, I'm not sure how she'd take to sharing the house with a Gecko.
I'd have Gecko's in my Phuket condo occasionally (they'd eventually find their way back out) or on the covered deck. They're cute little things, although we never had much of a conversation so I don't know if Thai Geckos deal with insurance or not. Must be just those Aussie ones.
Hi Dghawk ! If you win, we can get CBW over to Utah to tell some of her fabulous tales and entertain the hot tubbers.
I agree, light is everything, absolutejn ! The wide open sky vistas and the huge valley give the site a sense of boundless room–the outdoor room and patios are among my favorite parts of the house. I like the abundance of french doors and windows to bring in the outside environs.
Absolutejn, for me calmness is more my impressions because when I looked again I could see my memory didn’t fair well. Initally I thought every room was some sort of grey and blue. So the continuation of the same colors, even if different hues, became calming because my system could rely on what was coming with no real surprises which allowed my system to be calm. The greens were complementary and fit.A very good job of help my nerves, my unconscious self, and my muscles be relaxed!I made sure my teaching room for my Emotionally disturbed students was a muted grey with blue walls! Sound familiar?
absolutejn, you are nearly moved in ! I did the same thing with this year's Blog Cabin, LOL.
ps, AnneElise and Coop would be spilling potting soil on the great room floor–good thing a vacuum is part of the prize !
Wonderful description, absolutejn! I felt myself there because of your great narrative!
I can hardly picture this, but the wood logs would lend itself to three dimensionality. You must have designed some prettty masterful decorating areas. Wow!!! Sometime I will ask you what its like to live in a log cabin and what your area looks like.
LOL, Traveler's Insurance has a cute white terrier who has serious concerns re the security of his prized bone…he even gets paranoid when a cat comes into the area. He would make a cute playmate for Terri. Then again, you know what they say about traveling salesmen……….
I LOVE that commercial!
I never saw that, I'll go back and find it.
Maybe she wouldn't like it b/c it moves!
I like it too, once you got me straight on how to figure it out on my iMac. It's much easier. I also don't like it if people can post and not be responsible.
Thank you for the pep talk!!!
Um, that would be Linda's bowl of Hershey's kisses. Well, what I found were some very sparkly cut glass diamonds and shells which I put in a glass cube with some dried plum/maroon/gold baby roses, not Hershey kisses at all.
Thank you (blush, blush)!
What a beautiful reply. I feel calmed by reading it. How your charges must love you! Re the colors of your teaching room matching those of the DH, which is mysteriously making all the posters 'calm, ' LOL. I think when we come on the blog, though, we are all in our private dreamday worlds and talking to each other from that space.
I know this is one of my 'happy places.' I come here to dream sometimes between hectic events. Thank you again for the beautiful post.
Sounds like a plan to me! I'll pu on a pot of…ur…um….SOMETHING, or maybe make a lasagna. I can figure that out later. But I will definately have plenty of wine.
Speaking of CBW, if I don't have to work this Saturday, I plan on going to her book signing.
I don't think the shower faces the river. I think it faces the side where no one is going to live.
Please let me know how it went tonight, Brenda.
Way back when i first photographed them, i playfully suggested that was a box for the milk man.
Awesome! Are you at the new hospital? Yes, we can get a tour of the home, tickets will be sold starting in January and the tours will cost something like $20+$2 service fee. Follow the blog to find out details. Good to have you here on the blog.
You are an understanding soul bee, that's because you are related to the earth around you, the little creatures like the bees, and the ones who came before us on the land of the Midway home.
I think you can only have two pets total, but not sure.
Thank you, long wait. It will be very fun watching the DH on video. That means good luck, right, if it's on New Years Day?
One of the HGTV women has an especially beautiful voice. She narrated the 2002 DH on the Chesapeake, and I can hear her, though not see her, on other occasions.
Maybe it's Suzanne Wang, who used to be on House Hunters. Now they just use her voice.
Does that include goldfish? lol
Ah… I think I read that too. :-/ Ah, well, maybe if we win we can figure that one out in the future. LOL!
Thank you, Beehive, could be, I watch that show a lot. And, the Property Brothers. That new ad for their show is so cute with the two brothers in animation moving their faces like paper dolls, really cute ad.
Wnag's voice is distinctive…she should sing.
I don't think it's Susan Wong. If you go way back to the videos for the earlier dream homes there is a blond, middle-aged, white woman as the host. It might be her.
Is it Joan Steffan?
Oh, yes, Kernan. My brother is Scott.
Yes! That is who I was thinking it might be. Good memory!
Amazing !
I wish my family had kept their Half Moon Bay house, by the way.
Mine did. There are just a few of the old families left, in Frenchman's Creek that is.
Small world isn't it?
Thought so!
lol Yes, Sandy I have a lot of love to give away!!!
The presentation went well. It was a "group effort." Our instructor said "good job" when we were done!
Me too!
An Air-Dyne bike. Have not heard of that for years. Best bike ever, you power it with your pedalling. Smooth on the joints. Best bike ever. I had to leave it in the place I was vacating because Purple Heart would not come and pick it up. This was just about the time people stopped using their home gym machines and were discovered to be using them as clothes/etcetera racks.
They said it had no value, which aggravated me a little, as it sure did to me. Many happy miles on that one.
Oh yes, it was state-of-the-art in it's day. I sold it for I think at least $300 used.
Sounds remarkable; wish I could do it! I know about yurts in Mongolia, they are probably the same! I don’t own any appropriate clothing either.
Where is your yurt? What state?
Yes and by using the arms, you get a good cardio workout that was just “killer.”
Great minds think alike!! That must be it.
