i can stop going throuth the pic and everything about this home!! i have a 3 year old son who is in love and is so funny cause every time im waching the tour my baby comes and tells me mama pretty house thats my house and i smile back at him cause even is only a pic and his face and his eyes are so poping out of joy:)
The Serenbe founders Mr. & Mrs. Steve Nygren had a photo glimpse of their master bedroom featured ina House Beautiful magazine article:
http://www.housebeautiful.com/decorating/colors/v…
Coles thanks for providing this info. The comment that Steve made really impressed me. When a family takes the bull by the horns, and encourages the whole family to get back to nature change for the better really happens. When I taught I had a few opportunities to watch this happen in action. The entire family becomes happier. I captured Steve's quote here— It's Steve Nygren: Amazing things do happen when you follow your heart. We were living in Atlanta, and in 1991 we bought a 60-acre farm in nearby Chattahoochee Hill Country as a weekend getaway. But something unexpected occurred. Coming out with our three daughters and reconnecting with nature changed our lives. We felt clearer, healthier, happier. So in '94 we sold our house and moved here full-time.
I went through the images, and loved some of things that Steve and his wife did to their town house. The Serenbe concept itself sounds like it would be up both of our alleys.
I Been entering everyday for the chance to win this dream home. i am a single mother of a soon to be 10 year old boy. i am presently unemployed and living with relatives. one thing i pray everday is to give my son his own home. he asks all the time when we can have our own house. i saw this contest and thought maybe this is my chance to hopefully give my son his wish. thanks HGTV with the chance to possibly give my son that dream. good luck to everyone who is entering.
Wow! Not many bloggers checking in here lately. Hope that means I WIN!!!! YEAH BABY!!! Wrap it up I'll take it. WooHoo!
This Green home is my idea of a dream home! I think if I win the dream home I'll take the money and move to the Serenbe community. Found a link: http://www.serenbecommunity.com/home.html
I love this green home. the water garden, the courtyards, everything. How wonderful to be living in a real community where people sit on the porch and talk to the neibors. And being able to get organic produce just a short walk from your front door. I'M IN LOVE!!!
ditto!!!!
Here's a little sneaky peek at the art going into the Serenbe Green Home. It seems to be appropriate
to be placed under this blog because the sneaky peek is the product of the fine art of woodturning.

What great pieces! I do love original art and handmade.
Ohh, very nice.
Well hey hey, it appears the 'framed chalk board' is giving the 'easy padded headboard' a run for what's the top 'Board?
The 2012 Green Home is an incredible home. I have alwaysw wanted a home with an indoor courtyard with balconies looking into it from the rooms above it; also knowing your home is secure, having been built on stone. I also like that you have found a way to control storm drainage. I am anxious to see what you will do with the landscaping. Whan can we enter this giveaway?
A look back….the winner of the HGTV 2011 Green Home in Stapleton chose the cash option and
the builder placed the home on the market. Happy ending for all concerned, right? Well, the
joy goes on. Rebuilding Together Metro Denver held an auction to benefit clients in need.
I understand the radiator chair went fast in the bidding!
http://rebuildingdenver.org/2012/01/04/designer-g…
Oh rats! I wanted that radiator chair for the backyard of the Dream Home in Midway. It would've been great for fishing (cold in the winter, though).
LOL!
Absolutely LOVE the houndstooth and ikat upholstery in the Great Room.
I downloaded the front door planter "How To" instructions. Super swell – thanks!
Mentally I am already in this home
In my Visions I am ~ lounging on the deck with a Mason jar full of sweet tea, enjoying the smell of Sunday dinner cooking meandering through the house, taking my dogs for walks and returning home with some grapevines found growing wild for crafts and a handful of wildflowers to stick into old milk bottles. The hum of cicadas in their 17 year song ,chasing lightening bugs at night, tree frogs and whiporwills and bobwhites and pileated woodpeckers all filling the air. Rocking chairs, lazy afternoons and living in gardening gloves and apron…
I will always call Georgia "My Home" and would love nothing more than to open my eyes and find I was not simply dreaming…
There is nothing like Georgia <3
Actually I would love to learn how to make that mirror that David Brown made for the Changing Room Bathroom of the Dream Home. I love the color and the studs that race around the frame! It has an industrial look but it is still retains a warm, organic feel. Beautiful work, David!
Thank you. They are 1 inch upholstery tacks. (maybe 15/16") do you spacing, pre-drill the holes and tap them in. -David
Oh, wow, David!! I didn't expect a reply! Thanks or the tip! I think that I will try it on a plain frame that I already have. I just have to add a mirrored glass to it after I do the nail head detailing. What was the color of paint?
Since I have your attention, can I ask your advice? I actually have an old settee that needs a new seat. The rest of it is all carved wood, but the seat is upholstery. I have the fabric and padding, and had thought to replace the tacks as that was holding the fabric down on the original. Would I have to fill the holes and re-drill them again or should I just tap the tacks back in their original position? This settee is quite old and converts into a bed by sliding out another piece underneath it. I believe it is a "campaign bed", but it has a straight back and "arms" that have a panels of fabric around the middle, but has open spindles all of the way around the back and sides too.
Oh my goodness, you have designed and created an absolutely beautiful dream house! It has such large spaces that you guys have managed to make so cozy and inviting. The all American – red, white, and blue room is just perfect. I think I might even enjoy doing laundry in that, well for lack of a better term, pimped out laundry room (LOL). Oh, and the outside rooms – I can just see my husband out there creating culinary magic on the grill. We have five amazing children (no they are not all at home now), and I can just see us all together (and one day our grandkids) skiiing, hiking, fishing, biking, and enjoying the beauty of nature. HGTV you nailed it – what a beautiful home! ROCK ON!
The more I visit Serenbe ~ The more I love this Project.I can not think of a more exciting Location nor Community to build a home.
The neighborly, personable, socially conscious and enviromentally concious Community is a rarity. It is amazing and just full of well thought out plans for today and for the future of it's Family of Neighbors.
Growing up in Ga. ~ The combination of Southern Charm and Social Get-Togethers with neighbors were always cherished times. The organic farming, the hiking trails, the Mayberry style businesses and the plans for the 2 additional sections simply gives this area all that Happy Neighborhoods need.Kudos!!
The Green Elements of the home are top notch from design to enviromental management. You should be proud of this awesome project. It is stellar and is at this point shining brightly in my eyes : )
I agree Serenbe seems perfection. But it's hot in Georgia and I'm arfraid of that.
I grew up in Atlanta, the seasons are truly about 3 months long for each,so the dredded Summer/Humidity is tiresome about the time Fall begins to ease on in.The Humidity is a guarantee to keep wrinkles at bay LOL! I had none until I moved away : )
I would just put the new tacks in to hold down the fabric. It would not be necessary to fill the holes unless the old holes would show, but it sounds like the new fabric/tack will cover the old. Depending on the wood, you should be able to just carefully hammer the new tack in without pre-drilling. The reason I pre-drilled for the mirror was the tack shaft was rather large and I wanted to make sure the went in straight without denting the surface head. Here is a link for the tacks. I don't remember the color but it was a Sherwin-Williams semi-gloss latex maybe Duration or Pro Classic. If I find my notes I will tell you the color.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing such writing with everyone. In my point of view one should be very careful while choosing their house. The house’s surroundings and environment matters a lot for a peaceful living. Peace…! I think which is very important.
I would like to read more of your writing in future…!
Hello,
It is a dream of everyone to have a beautiful house of their own and to maintain a luxurious life…! But not all the dream is successful. As I go through your writing, I could find some information which will be beneficial for everyone to make their dream come true.
Hope to read more of your writing…Keep it Up…!
This is such a beautiful looking home…and such a fun theme. I can only dream about living in such a cool and warm looking home…and imagine having my brothers and sisters and all our kids running around on the holidays.
Wow!This house is so pretty. It would be just perfect for my little family. I love everything about this the house. The inside as well as the outside. Whoever wins this beautiful home will be so very Bless. Love it to be us.
We definitely don't agree about stainless.
I thought the wall striping was a paint treatment like Linda used in the 1999 Rosemary Beach dream home.
@hokiemom; TOTALLY in concurrance with you on that yukky chalkboard paint. That stuff is UG-LEE!!!
White boards are clean and colorful! Even high school students have fun when turned loose on a blank white board. Chalk UGH! I thought someone mentioned a porch swing sometime back. I have not seen one mentioned on any of the dream home videos. Is there room for one on the front porch?
Have you ever had to get crushed up chalk out of a kids bedroom carpet??? Is chalk the best place in a kids bedroom? Really? Kids are so far beyond chalk. Go into any grocery store and the little kids have their mom's smart phone/ iphone, whatever– playing games while mom is shopping. Watch those little kids and their fast little thumbs working away. Coloring books? Chalk boards, Oh come on……HA ! Kids hardly learn "cursive" in school anymore. Obsolete. Chalk is for the driveway.
hokiemom , I do sympathize. I went without being able to see HGTV network for a time, and we could not get the DIY network until we switched to a satellite service. I never take for granted that we have it. Here is a link to the show, which was first on HGTV, but more recently been on DIY. Here are 3 products which were featured on an episode: http://www.diynetwork.com/i-want-that/aspect-tile…
also, DIY network has a page with info on 125 products featured on the show, some of which are very innovative : http://marketplace.diynetwork.com/Search.aspx?TVS…
More cutting -edge projects are shown on "This New House", and DIY has info on the show :
