  3. First off I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you
don’t mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior
to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply
just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Thank you!

My husband is also on the board of the Green Building Council and helped form it here in Norfolk,Va. We would be perfect for the Smart Home and appreciate it. We have some family and friends in that area also,so it would be wonderful to win. Can't wait.

The outside is just as wonderful, long lasting and virtually maintenance free for years! I also absolutely love the tile on the steps, how beautiful! The technology is so great and I cannot wait to see the end result! You can bet I will be entering to win this spectacular home! 57. Nice from what I see so far. Is that pool actually big enough to swim in it? I don't cook too much so I don't care what kind of cooktop it is. I like that second bedroom upstairs for my studio space, the reading nook would have too much bright light and I need closet space for fabric storage.

Love the deck. Love the tile in the stair steps. Don't care for the 3 TV's, love the way they are covered with art work but who needs 3 TV's? Love the size of the master suite and the big big bathtub.

If it's a "smart" house, does it clean itself?

The storage area over the garage and the garage itself would be nice to give my husband back some space. With our "modern family" of two adult children and three nephews 1, 4 and 7, I bet there is not a nook or cranny that would not be explored. What a fabulous house! That is an incredible way to surf the net though and watch tv at the same time without needing reading glasses so I hope a keyboard is included too! What a dream technology has become. I wonder if one TV will operate off a tablet like an iPad? That would work too. Depending on the cable system sponsoring the build it could work!

  74. There is no words to describe this home! It is amazing to say the least! The tile on the stairs are beautiful and the guest bedroom would be awesome for my oldest son, who is currently studying for game design. All the high tech items would just be a dream to have in a home, I guess that is why it is called the Dream Home Giveaway lol. I can't wait to see it completed! 79. I love the house. We live in Florida already. I wish HGTV would build in Tenn.. I would put in 1000 of envelopes a day if I had to. We visited around the Knoxville area. We are hooked. The people are so friendly. Florida is nice, but we are in for a change. Whoever wins the Florida Smart Home will be lucky, pretty area. But we want snow. It is funny we see alot of Tenn. tags here, and we sigh. I quess people always want something other than they have. Good luck to all.

  81. Saw the palms, so obviously its tropical, but I couldn't find where it was actually located? Also does it come with the same prize money as the DH, so you can pay the taxes on it? :)

asunray on March 8, 2013 at 12:25 pm
    • Lol…. never mind found it on another page! I've been to Jacksonville, it is a beautiful place, it just keeps the 'beach' dream alive!

asunray on March 8, 2013 at 12:38 pm
    • Yes it comes with some prize money like the DH does. Only the Urban Oasis doesn't come with prize money!

  82. Hi, im 15. I think the next house you build should be built for larger familes. I know my family has 6 people (2 adults, 4 kids) and if we moved into one of these houses, our grandma would too. Also, a rooftop gathering area would be absolutely gorgeous especially if it has an amazing view of the city or just nature. Great job so far, cant wait to see the finished result. Oh, and I love the way carley talks to the camera! Shes great!

    Maizybaby98 on March 6, 2013 at 11:19 am

  84. Amazing! A house that will accommodate everyone in the family. I can picture my husband owning the great room and the garage then the rest is mine. With all the gadgets and high tech feature in this house what else you could ask for. Oh Lord I need all the luck to get this house.

  85. This would definitely be a dream come true for me and my children! My daughter and I were gasping at all the wonderful things in the home, around the home, and near the home while watching the video on youtube. We dream of being able to stay on the beach while visiting friends and family who live in Mobile and Pensacola…can't even imagine living close to them, right by the beach, and having access to it everyday! :) On top of that to be saving money and time with all the cool convenient electronic features… It's looking absolutely beautiful already… Can't wait to see it finished!

  91. LOVE the house. Looks great so far. A question about the location. Friends who live in FL have told me the crime rate is high. I searched and found an article from 2010 stating only 3% of cities in America have more crime. I hope things have improved since then. I know some of that has to do with the high number of tourists, due to the beach.

    Devine_Diva on March 3, 2013 at 12:00 pm
  94. As always, HGTV and the people who contribute to the Dream Homes are amazing!!! I live literally minutes from where it's being built. I've lived here at the Jax Beaches area for 16 yrs. I'm 44 and have yet to own a home. I'm entering as I always do. My daughter would be in her school zone and continue her honors classes. A friend of ours is doing the catering for the crews Taste is the name. She said the home is amazing!! I'm a former Interior Designer now enduring muscular Dystrophy and this climate is amazing. This is rally good for our community! I'm entering daily for this one!!!! I wouldn't even have to move- HGTV Pick me Pick ME!!! Great Human interest story too!! Hee hee..

    Amstrix1 on March 2, 2013 at 6:18 am
    • You have your own set of challenges and more power to you! This is the "Smart Home" although it is a dream home also. Remember to watch in April for the entries to start! There are lots of us on this blog with minor to major challenges and having a first floor master bedroom is key for us. We're also lobbying HGTV for full accessibility which I think we could have in this house. So keep the hope alive. It's nice to know you have an inside connection. Perhaps you could get some photos of the home tor us to salivate over?

minitoni on March 13, 2013 at 5:36 am
    • So good to have your input Amstrix. I have family ties and fond memories of that area and it's good to hear the community is rallying with this home. Hope you can get some unstaged photos and local color to post. We'd love that! Wishing you good health!

      ut4evr on March 13, 2013 at 12:54 pm
  95. It looks as if the Smart home is even going to be better than the Dream home. I think is bigger and has more yard. What do you guys/ladies think?

yamoaha on March 1, 2013 at 3:50 pm
    • I love the look of the dream home and the proximity to the water and the views but this home may just be better with more usable space overall. I can't wait to see it finished and there is yard for our dogs too! So I'm with you, this may be better than the DH!

minitoni on March 13, 2013 at 5:37 am
  96. I am always blown away by HGTV homes. Wow! I cannot wait to see the paint colors on the walls, furniture and the decorative touches that always make me dream of living there. My 5-year-old daughter loves to swim, so she would absolutely flip if she had that second story bedroom and could look out at the swimming pool. I'm so excited about this Smart Home. I'm sitting here looking out the window at the cold, cold snow. I need Florida.

          • Those are great pics…I would need some high bamboo fencing around the pool area out of public view…Mama needs her privacy…(nor would she want to scare passersby if she is in a bathing suit…)
Eugenia, Colonel Meow has come back on and is in a sour mood…he prefers scotch over beer.

LLColeman on February 27, 2013 at 10:04 pm
          • I’m with Colonel Meow, although I prefer Rye or Rum over Scotch.
I thought about that too. (Bamboo) but it will take over an area, worse than Kudzu. I was trying to think of a way to dig down and put in some sort of barrier so the bamboo couldn’t escape. The only problem I see is if it will contain the bamboo it couldn’t have proper drainage. Hmmmmm, what to do, what to do?

            Eugenia27 on February 28, 2013 at 9:22 am
          • Lol…I meant a split bamboo fence–made from bamboo–not a live hedge of running bamboo…there are probably some screening plants that could do well in the J'ville climate.

LLColeman on February 28, 2013 at 9:28 pm
        • Thanks for posting the link. Although I prefer gas the induction cooktop is fine and will just have to change out some of my favorite aluminum pans to use it. Where did you find the photo link or did you take the photos? I really appreciate the link. Thanks again!

  116. I live in St Augustine and part of the exterior of our house is shell dash, part coquina. Makes for great self backscratching! Just don't scrape your heel or knuckles against them!

The tiles on the stair risers and outside at the pool – and which are currently on the porch "ceiling" soothe me. It's hot here on the 1st Coast and just staring at those colors cool me off.

  117. Life has taught you and me well about Family. I too was given two wonderful sets of in-laws because my husband is an adopted child. During the time that we were parent care givers, I felt like that I was helping to pay back my raising as my Mom use to say. She would say that you don't pay back your raising until you have a child.

  122. I remember a long time ago when we were all guessing what type of technology would be used in the smart home, we wondered if you would get locked out in a power outage. I was so happy to hear about the back up system in the garage so even in a power outage you could get out/in.
I suppose there is a similar system for the doors.

    Eugenia27 on February 25, 2013 at 1:24 pm
  123. There is a peace and joy to be able to care for ones parents. There are days that you tell yourself: "This is why I haven't quit smoking". But in the long run ….. your mother-in-law is already a winner.

    P.S. Winners need vacations too.
good luck to all of you.

    Eugenia27 on February 25, 2013 at 1:21 pm

    Eugenia27 on February 25, 2013 at 1:14 pm
  125. If I won the DH I would keep the house but then I would be land-poor. I'd have to find work, in this economy I'm not sure how quickly a middle aged woman like myself could find a job. I would keep it for as long as I could, then it would break my heart when I had to sell it.
The Smart Home I think would be more affordable. It would be a forever home.
Now all I have to do is win one of them.

    Eugenia27 on February 25, 2013 at 1:12 pm

I am amazed with the design and materials in the master bathroom; it evokes a high end spa or 5 stars hotel.. I love the tiles on the front porch's steps and how the design is carried into the home and pool. I also like the camera angle that allows a view of the area between the front porch and the fence. I love everything about this home!

  139. Ahhh to win a home like that would be incredible. I myself have gotten wrapped up in the anticipation of this win. But what would give me the most pleasure would be to give my husbands parents a vacation. They have given us so much and get so little. My mother in law cares for both her elderly parents( both are pushing 100) and are not in the best of health. They are the kindest people I have ever known and have truly tought me what family is really about. Live and support in the best and worst of times.

  144. Special thanks to HGTV’s Carly Knobloch and Shaw’s Tracy Daves for the sneak peek videos.

I believe Lon Walton, architect Mike Stauffer, builders Glenn Layton and John Harris, house planner Jack Thomasson, interior designer Linda Woodrum and landscape architect Jeremy Marquis have set the “gold” standard on HGTV’s first-ever Smart Home in Paradise Key South Beach!

It seems the design/build team has seamlessly created a coastal cottage-inspired paradise starting with:

    Its Jacksonville Beach location;
    To its selection of a great subdivision and a great lot;
    To the historical charm of its architecture;
    To its ocean-blue inspired curb appeal and bejeweled tiled stairs;
    To its pet-friendly fencing;
    To its fully-functional design maximizing every inch of livable outdoor and indoor space;
    To its outside-the-box smart features;
    To its accessible main living floor plan;
    To its commitment to be LEED certified, eco-friendly and energy efficient;
    To its beautifully-showcased products;
And, to its stellar interior design.

    Bring on the sunshine!

  148. will the winner be notified ahead of time and be on the show the day the winner is revealed? Or will they be sitting at home watching the show and be surprised along with everyone else watching?

    jenn_webb on February 24, 2013 at 6:10 am
    • The winner is ambushed, but recorded to be shown at a later time. They're surprised and then get to watch it later with everyone else.

      ut4evr on February 24, 2013 at 7:34 am
  149. I wish we had a timeline for this home…………When will the virtual tour begin? When will the entry period begin? When will the winner be chosen and surprised?

  150. I am also curious about the loft space. I think that the loft is one of the coziest rooms in the home, it has a serene and relaxing atmosphere, where one can get away from it all. I wonder how Linda will furnish this room, what views will it have, and if there will be a day bed there.

mhomedreaming on February 23, 2013 at 7:40 pm
    • Ooh a day bed – good idea. Wonder if she'll think of that! All I know is there's another TV up there.

      • I hope it will be a chaise lounge and a wall of bookcases.

  153. And I thought the Dream Home was over the top—the SMART home is already awesome and it is not even finished yet!!!!!!!!!!!!

    joyfulj9 on February 23, 2013 at 2:37 pm
    • Kiawah has the location, views and landscaping. We have to admit it is amazing.
The smart home feels like a HOME.

      Eugenia27 on February 24, 2013 at 1:11 pm
      • I have to agree with you that Kiawah has the location, views and landscaping. They are two very different homes with equally amazing interiors. Being a dreamer, my first choice (as if I even have such a choice) would be the Kiawah Dream Home. The practical part of me would place the 2013 Smart Home as a more than happy second choice. I never pass up the opportunity to dream forward. Good luck from one dreamer to another:)

  154. I am thinking about that cozy little loft space in this home. I think it could be a great place to get comfortable and read a good book.

Summer on February 23, 2013 at 2:31 pm
    • Seems to be that lofts are 'in' !! Dream Home has one & Smart Home too !! Love the loft idea, these rooms could be made into guest spaces !!

      • Or … a library

        Eugenia27 on February 24, 2013 at 1:08 pm
        • I like a library book shelf area with a cozy armchair and lamp……..a place to sit and read.

    • On the Shaw videos I saw a peek of that wall with a whitewash. Looked very nice as is usual for Linda!

      ut4evr on February 23, 2013 at 11:40 am
      • Whitewash sounds nice! I wonder what kind of color scheme she will use inside. Something tropical with lots of blue and green to reflect the outside, maybe some citrus colors for accent? Exciting!

        • Follow this link (from Kdoodle2). http://www.hgtvremodels.com/hgtvremodels-building

You'll see the main floor is aqua and white with tans on the walls up stairs. One link shows lots of tan in rugs over the almost drift wood looking floors. Very pretty! Very restful!

  160. I guess we have to wait and see. If they don’t have any that would be the first thing I would add.

    Eugenia27 on February 23, 2013 at 10:25 am
  161. I hadn’t thought about that. The hubby could surf away and I could still watch my shows uninterrupted. LOVE IT!!!!!

    • Every sportsman's dream, Pic'N"Pic' doesn't do it while watching a game. But 2 or 3 games on 3 Screens now that's what i'm talkin about. The rest of the games can go to the HOPPER.

      gmartell54 on February 23, 2013 at 2:23 pm
      • In our family we “put-up” food for the winter; we all had a job. Before I was old enough to help, my job was to run from room to room (where different radio stations were broadcasting different games) then to run back to tell my dad what was happening in each game. I thought I’d grow up to be a sports announcer.

        Eugenia27 on February 23, 2013 at 2:44 pm
  162. I guess that is why I’m not a designer. I like both EdInOregon and LLColeman’s ideas.

    Eugenia27 on February 23, 2013 at 9:34 am
  163. On the remodel site I watched the 2 Shaw sponsored videos. Wood floors, rugs and tile all are beautiful. Also got peeks at the living room – huge fan, white washed wood around the TVs, electrical outlets in the floor for floating furniture arrangements. Lots of TVs in this home – 3 in the living room, outlets seen in the loft and bedrooms, too. Paint colors are pretty nice as well. Shaping up to be quite a home!

    ut4evr on February 23, 2013 at 9:33 am
    • Thanks for the links that you sent to me. That Shaw video did show a lot more of the interior! I love the blue and green wall colors and that floor! What a beautiful floor! I still love all the cedar on the ceiling of the garage. Was that an entire upper area in the garage a storage area or a living space?

paperdragon on February 23, 2013 at 1:50 pm
      • Yea, those colors are beautiful. And that floor, too bad it's out of my price range ($8-9/square foot)! Love that the wood texture shows through the whitewash in the living room. That garage is something else. Very interested in tours showing that storage space and how you access it. They said something about lowering the storage down and off you go. Sounds like a Man Cave episode!

        ut4evr on February 23, 2013 at 2:07 pm
        • The tour will be interesting, but then I am always surprised to see what they've done to the interior. The bathroom look great already with all of that travertine and glass tile. The addition to that blue tile on the stairs is an interesting treatment. It carries that aqua color through-out the house. Lovely!

paperdragon on February 23, 2013 at 3:01 pm
          • I really love that tile on the stair risers. I love that it appears outside on the stairs and around the pool, too. The colors in this place sure look like the beach, don't they!

            ut4evr on February 24, 2013 at 7:37 am
          • Me too. I love the continuity with the tiles. I’m so glad that it is/are the color(s) that they are. I remember the shade of yellow tile used in the 2011 Denver Green Home. (I am not a gold/yellow person)

I am so in love with this home it hurts.

            Eugenia27 on February 24, 2013 at 1:07 pm
          • I loved that home. Don't remember the tile, though. Just remember lots of gold to warm up the browns and gray. I love all color, I guess. Wait, not purple or pink. I avoid them so much I forgot they exist LOL

            ut4evr on February 24, 2013 at 2:59 pm
          • Yes, even though the colors are classically cool "beach" colors, they don't feel too "beachy" in this house.
Maybe it's because the architectural style reminds me of the Midwestern Prairie Homes that Frank Lloyd Wright built around 1910 to 1920. Asymmetrical in appearance, Prairie houses were a reaction against more ornate European Revival forms. The Arts and Crafts movement and Bungalow architecture influenced this style with projecting eaves that contribute to the building’s horizontal lines. Bands of windows with share sills also emphasize horizontal lines. The influence are in those risers with the wood trim surrounding that beautiful tile.
Will Linda carry some of this through the interior decorating?

paperdragon on February 24, 2013 at 1:31 pm
          • The outside feels Prairie influenced. But the peeks inside seem more zen. Whitewash wood slats instead of oak panels with squared trim. And no stained glass. The high living room ceiling after the lower entry height reminds me of his Taliesen West style. An interesting mix, isn't it! Wright and zen always work if you ask me!

            ut4evr on February 24, 2013 at 2:39 pm
          • Yes, no stained glass, but actually Jacksonville has more examples of the Prairie School style than any city outside of the Midwest. http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2010-aug

          • Good to know. I have spent much time there, with long family ties. This place has an interesting history and look. Love the bridges, too.

  164. I have to admit, I don’t understand the purpose of a remote control for the shower. There are controls one the wall. If you are in the bathroom to take a shower why would you need a remote in the bedroom? I’m not saying it is bad, I’m just saying I don’t understand.

  168. What a gorgeous home! My favorite features so far are the layout, blue tiles on the stairs risers and in master bath, the light filled sitting area at the top of the stairs and what promises to be a beautiful kitchen and dining room. The house already seems very homey, even while under construction.

The cement board shingles are an inspired choice – we resided our 1920s wood bungalow in cement board siding about 10 years ago and it is virtually indestructible. Also holds paint like a magnet!

The storage feature in the garage is ingenious! I love everything about the house and the setting. Can't wait to see more. Thank you!

  169. I feel like I would need an easy to read manual for this house and maybe some training on the TV's……or I can just have my kids show me how it all works……hahahaha! Technology!

lovethechefblog on February 23, 2013 at 5:03 am
    • Maybe if the home is smart enough it could read the manual to you.

      • LOL

        ut4evr on February 23, 2013 at 10:59 am
      • That would be great if the house was so smart that it trained me how to use it!!! I hope Mary and Linda are hearing this! What a great idea! I would bring the kids and grandkids just in case. i am not very techy. We need a new remote right now for our TV and I haven't got one yet because I don't know which one to get or how to make it work with my TV. Pitiful…..I know!

lovethechefblog on February 23, 2013 at 12:42 pm
        • That is easy, write down ALL the stuff that is on the back of the TV and give it to the person that works at the electronics store. I’m sure they don’t need EVERYTHING but knowing my luck the one thing they will need is the one thing I wouldn’t have write down.

          Eugenia27 on February 23, 2013 at 1:15 pm
  170. I think the bathroom is pretty cool too! I wold also need a manual! Or my kids to help me….hahahah!

I like the wall/shutters they used around the outdoor shower & gate/door beside the garage to the back deck.

  182. Is this home Platinum LEED like the dream home?

    ut4evr on February 22, 2013 at 3:34 pm
    • I was also surprised it is a developing area. But so is the Dream Home 2013 and 2012 so it seems to be a trend. Last year's home is still the 2nd one on the river. Hope others will be able to build in these beautiful areas. Sorry about troubles with your posts. They are always interesting. Love seeing these homes unfiltered when I can't be there in person! Excited for more peeks of this home and it's many TVs. LOL

      ut4evr on February 24, 2013 at 10:59 am
      • I don’t remember what year it was but the home in wine country of California. (It had that fantastic wraparound porch and killer kitchen) It was the ONLY home built in that development. Too bad, you would think that all the advertising that HGTV did for the home that the developer didn’t get more sales.

        Eugenia27 on February 24, 2013 at 1:01 pm
        • I didn't realize that was the only home there. And such a lovely location, too.

  183. They only think they multi task well. Watching them drive I don't think they're too good!

    ut4evr on February 22, 2013 at 3:31 pm
    • I know, that was a joke, I don’t think anyone could watch 3 shows at once any better than could a person text while driving.
My husband thought 3 TVs would be distracting. I think with headsets we could both watch our own shows and still be together. This would be a good thing. We switch off from his Ghost Adventures and my HGTV. I’m sure he thinks I watch more of my shows than his but I’m sure that guys talking to dead people out number pretty houses. LOL
Did you see the special around Halloween where they did 3 haunted houses that people were trying to sell? That was a great one. Both my husband and I loved that one.

      Eugenia27 on February 23, 2013 at 9:30 am
  184. I don't think we would use that 3rd TV to monitor our smart home. Wonder how many other TVs are in the home.

    • I think there will be a TV in the loft.

  190. I'm with everyone else on the previews to this Smart Home. It is beautiful! Yes, I like it better than the Dream Home too, David! The Media center is over the top, but I have to agree with DBCoop, I love the shower. That tub is pretty, but the shower is awesome!!!!
I love all of the cedar in the house and it makes the garage look like more than just an area to store your car and toys! Now I can't wait to see the finished home. If it follows the aqua trim on the outside and pool trim, it should be fabulous! :-D (I'm grinning ear to ear!)
Thank you, thank you for the two great videos!!

Can't wait to see more. And an endless pool with jets for swimming laps against! Love Love Love! Oh and did I mention the garage storage with potential to be even more up there like a studio maybe? I think there's potential for that I mean. I love the colors of the sky and sea all around. Did everyone watch both videos? Love this

You can really see all the work in coordinating the exterior spaces. I love the water barrels, recessed deck and stair lighting. All the pool area glass is the same shade turquoise blue as the trim. I wonder if it looks that way from the inside? I will have to watch the video again to see if I can tell…..Oh yea, the glass is tinted from both sides. So cool that the outdoor shower is private. The outside is totally done…Thanks again gwredd1.

    • Thanks Gary for the excellent pictures! What good news for a fri morning.
I was surprised that its right on the street like that….and I wish that they would had thinned out trees alttle more. It looks alittle too brushy. I was also hoping for so solar panels.
But I do like that pool!
Tell us gary, how built out is that subdivision….is there alot of homes?
Again, thanks so much for your post.

onemanpraying on February 22, 2013 at 8:48 am
      • Hello onemanpraying: It's not on the street, that is a culd-a-sac in front of the house. Plenty of room behind the house before you get to the street. There a several homes under construction with several lots already sold. Regarding the solar panels, don't get discouraged pls remember this home may not be completed yet. I will say that while I was there I met a couple of men who were tracking how the sun would move across the property. I didn't really understand why but now that you mentioned it, perhaps they were planning an installation of solar panels. I also spoke with a grounds keeper and there is still some underbrush to be removed. Don't make any final judgements until the home is opened by HGTV for Viewing.

    • gwredd1, I thought you said you were not a world class photographer.
I love the rain barrels. Are those fruit trees in the large planter boxes on the great room side of the house? How far is that foot bridge from the SH? How fantastic that you got to go there and see all that for yourself. Thanks for sharing.

      Eugenia27 on February 22, 2013 at 11:18 am
      • Hello Eugenia: I must apologize as I know nothing about fruit trees so I could not tell what kind of tree those are. If you look at photo #17 you can see the end of the garage. I would estimate that the bridge to be about 50ft from the garage. The ditch that goes under the foot bridge also wraps around the other side of the house and it is about 8-10ft deep.

  202. I have had time to ponder the home and I really don't like the great room set-up. I think that one TV is fine and it should be on the other wall. That way there could be a sectional couch facing that TV and you would have a view of the porch area, too. I would put bookshelves on the wall where the three TV's are and two windows so I could see the kids playing on the driveway :)

  212. Now that we have seen the sneak peek, I wonder how Linda is going to decorate the Great Room. You have the 3 TVs on one side and the view of the patio with the sliding wall of glass and pool on the other side. You wouldn’t want to sit sideways watching TV but you wouldn’t want to turn your back to the view. I would have absolutely NO idea how to decorate that room.
That is why Linda has the job and I don’t. Lol :)

    Eugenia27 on February 21, 2013 at 10:02 am

    • I'm guessing floating sofas and chairs facing the center of the room. Not so practical for watching TV but it's what designers usually do when there are opposing focal points in a room. I like the swivel chair idea!

But just in-case here it is again.First thanks so very much for your kind concern.Been busy taking a bunch of classes at the Community college. It's totally FREE if you are a senior citizen-parking too!!! OMG! love it! Music, Art, Politics,Geology,Yoga etc. Great being around all those 20 something young adults.Love the diversity of students. Nice change talking about the pros and cons of different tattoos and piercings and also the budget and sequestration. Great diversity of people: Young, Oldish,From every corner of the world. So busy I forgot to enter the Dream Home Sweeps.I'll be back to the blogs during spring break.Need to do my homework. Such fun! And did I mention it's FREE!!! Miss ya!

    • I'm happy for you. I know how much you love and appreciate education. Mom never admitted to her age until she found out she could attend college for $5. per class, as a senior citizen. Mom always said that any part of your body could go on vacation with the exception of your brain.
That and she kept young by hanging out with young people.
Have a wonderful time, (I know you will) When you think about us check in so I won't worry about you.

  236. Love the Master Bath shower with controls for setting the water temperature — and you can control it all from the bedroom remote. Amazing — at least until Terri "accidentally" steps on the temperature button and dials it down to ice cold while I'm in the shower!

Three large flat-screen hi-def TVs are perfect; one for HGTV, one for surfing the web and the third for Terri to watch Animal Planet or her favorite Sylvester the Cat cartoons.

With all the tech-savvy gear, the home will be smarter than I am. Does it come with an easy to read "Smart Home for Dummies" instruction manual?

And yes, I really dig that neat outdoor shower for both two-legged guests and four-legged friends.

With so much to love about the Smart Home, too bad you can't program the HGTV computer to select your name as the winning entry. Random selection is just so, well, random. Can't we have just a bit more certainty when something so right comes along? Guess putting in those two daily entries is the only way to go.

DBCoop on February 20, 2013 at 4:51 pm
    • Coop, how is it you can read my mind AND put it into words? Impressive.
You only have to worry about Terri, I have 3 that would love to play tug-a-war following with hide-n-seek; could make for a ‘stimulating’ shower.

      Eugenia27 on February 20, 2013 at 12:50 pm
  237. We too wish luck to everybody who entered. My family has so many connections to the south. Now living in NY makes us miss the south so much more. Not trying to present a sap story but my father just past away in January. The hardest moment of our lives. My dad was born and raised in Wilmington NC. If we were to win such a wonderful dream home it would mean more then just a materialistic win, this for sure would be a spiritual experience. Our son who loved grandpa so much could enjoy running on the beach and get to know where Grandpa was from.. Friends would come visit for a special vacation. We are fortunate enough to have friends all in the same boat with young kids and going through same life obsticles. My husband and I would appreciate such a lifestyle change. Living in upstate NY has just happened but I am 100% sure that a move to S.C. would happen without a blink of an eye. Miss my family roots and could only pray and wish for such a dream. We have entered every day and again wish luck to everybody.. Miss you dad : )

  238. Thank you Carley and Mary for the sneak peak. The color of the tile in the master bathroom is so soothing, and the smart features are so SMART…… I had wondered before what type of wood was used on the ceiling, now I know, Carley was so gracious with the information. The green color tile on the stairs look very exotic.
Love that there are so many windows that bring natural light in the home. Completely in love with the indoor/outdoor feel of the home.

I love that they have finally constructed a single level ranch home- having a handicapped mom, I know this would make life so much easier, and welcoming for her! A king bed in the MB – just perfect !!! And the "smart MB shower!" what a concept… how lovely to have that little extra luxury. Also absolutely thrilled to see all the added upper level storage space over the garage… and with all the bells and whistles! The great room and media screens, to the pool and expansive outdoor living space and the little outdoor shower, this house just keeps getting better and better. I know its too soon, but I'm already eager to start getting in my entries for this beauty – it would suit my family to a T!

I was thinking that if my husband and I had 2 separate sets of earphones that plugged into our own flat screen, that we could watch 2 different TV shows in the same room, and at the same time, without any problem at all. Heck, we could even have 3 different TV shows going at one time, with 3 sets of earphones, and our dog could watch Animal Planet on his very own flat screen! How fun would that be? Loads!!!!

And I noticed Carley said a king size bed in the master bedroom. If that holds up that is a welcome change. At 6'4" a queen bed is too small. California King would be even better. I love all the wood too. Looks great. I want to enter to win right now.

Seriously, this home promises to be spectacular. Love the tile on the staircase.

  267. Thank you for a tour of this great home. Like the fact that it takes into consideration a senior like me with not too many steps. The garage storage area is a real winner.

  268. Wow!!! Even better than I imagined it! I can't wait to see the finished product. I love the 3 wide flat screens in the great room. Life doesn't get any better than that! This high tech, energy efficient home has everything a homeowner could ever want or need. I love it!!!!!!!
