  6. On this web site you will find lots of manufacturers and retailers who may offer a variety of electronics. From the the dealers offer a healthy standing (they called zulily PowerSeller). If that fails, after receiving the goods, must raise the question of whether both the vendor and the auction web-site. Price comparison easy, so it is simple to buy an economical iPhone in that room.

  74. I had my husband view the gym in the incredibly perfect home we want to move into. He has to work out every day of his life because of a prior broken neck when he was young. This space was just absolutely perfect for him, (and me too). I just had back surgery recently and must walk 1/2 mile a day. We are both in great health now, but this gym will be used everyday faithfully. The décor and equipment are so perfectly done for our life.
Great job to all that has brought this home together in a perfect mix of perfection.

  75. It is impossible to pick just one space or another, but I love the outdoor spaces. Being from the cold Northeast up here we live for the summer. I would be outside as often as possible. Working on my plants and caring for the lawn. Outdoor dining would be luxurious. Babysitting for my granddaughter a blessing, seeing she lives near. My family lives in North Carolina and it would be a blessing to be together for the holidays, but without the 12 hr. drive.

  77. I am a southern girl at heart. This home located right in the heart of NC is just stunning. My favorite part is the outside porches. Love the colors and the surrounding trees.

The Dinning and Living rooms are well structure e.g., color scheme and selection of decors. Tiffany is just a badass and I love what she did with this home. My chances of winning is just as good as anyone else and I pray that I win. This is one of my bucket list to own a home someday. Life circumstances and finance has prevented me for years to complete this bucket list. So I am hoping that I can scratch this off of my list.

I love this home and would love to take an in-person tour. Watching on T.V. and see photos are stunning but actually walking through is always a grand experience. Do anyone know if this can be done?

  86. Who made the beautiful window treatments?

AML on April 19, 2016 at 10:11 am
  87. Why is there never nearly enough "space" in SmartHomes? Unless a person only works, sleeps and watches TV, they carry with them a lot of "stuff" related to hobbies, vocation, interests, etc, that needs to be close at hand for constant use. We also carry with us a certain "inventory" of stuff from our past that we are unwilling to part with. Where is there any room for such storage in these Smart Homes? Smart Homes need to incorporate ample storage located within these homes, not shoved into some remote corner of the garage and exposed to the elements.

Lou Richardson on April 18, 2016 at 6:20 am
    • There are many storage spaces in this Smart home, but since they aren't filled with a sponsors products, they aren't promoted. There's two large spaces on the 2nd floor, and three in the basement.

      dreamn_again on April 18, 2016 at 9:01 am
      • I agree there is plenty of storage space. I also believe there is a small attic. There is a window above the guest bedroom if you are looking at the picture showing the front of the house.

  90. Did anyone ever say what that little house was? It doesn't look like a neighborhood that would have a tiny home. A tiny house is the only way I could afford to live there. Although, even though it is so cute, it would be crazy small with that A frame roof.

  100. I LOVE THIS HOUSE. THE DECOR IS VERY DYNAMIC. I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS MYSELF THAT'S WHY IT IS SO SPECIAL. THE NURSEY AND THE OUTSIDE SPACES ARE MY FAVORITE.

  101. I was wondering how the 2-sided fireplace works that is between the master bedroom and the screened porch. Is it open to the outside and will it let in cold on cold nights and cool air out from the air conditioning when it is not in use? Also can someone crawl through when not in use?

  109. This home is so beautifully built..I love most aspects of the design….My only complaint would be columns, but I guess they have their absolute necessity….great job hgtv….can't wait to start entering….this another big winner in architectural design as far as i am concerned…

twoTERRIERs on April 10, 2016 at 10:22 pm
    • Craftsman homes can have beautiful interior columns. These columns just need a simple cladding in wood instead of drywall. Also, the beam across the top should be clad in wood. I'm glad Tiffany already gave us crown molding. I can't find a good image of what I see in my head, but something like this.

        • Yes, I knew you meant interior, because the columns tightly flanking the eating space like that is indeed awkward. We can fix it up, though, when you win. I will send you a sketch in the congratulations card. It will still look a little cramped, but charming. :)

  116. This home is the opposite of my style. But I really like it. Here's why:
Love all of the modern art on the walls
Interesting "doodahs" placed around the house (but I'd probably rotate them)
    That's one pretty front door
The color scheme is inviting and interesting
So much natural light through doors, windows and skylights
Wood work craftmanship looks amazing – I especially like the master bedroom wall
The exercise room is bright and fun with the views out to the woods and that graphic wall
Absolutely want that mudroom and everything in it
    Such pretty cabinet work
Like the layout of the basement and main floor (upstairs puzzles me, though)
    2 laundry areas – bonus!
I really do want all of the furniture on the covered porch. (Did you look at that cool love seat??)

Great job HGTV and all involved in building this Smart Home. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

    Ut4evr on April 9, 2016 at 5:19 pm
    • At first I thought the stools and the kitchen tile was too busy and would drive me crazy. I thought to cover the chairs in a solid fabric but then I saw a picture that DeerSpring posted from one of the bloggers that she posts. The colors were a little less vibrant and it looked fantastic! In the natural light it all worked beautifully. I guess the lighting that HGTV used did the job to showcase everything but not how it would look if you lived there, on a cloudy day.

      Eugenia27 on April 10, 2016 at 5:30 pm
      • I don't like the texture of those dining chairs and bar stools. Seems too much like grandma to me. I do like the tile but in 5-10 years it will look so 2016 I think. And that would be an expensive redo. I prefer more neutral for the big ticket decor. I can't say enough good about that mudroom. In love with the tile floor. The layout is perfect. So much natural light. Yep. Want it!

        Ut4evr on April 10, 2016 at 7:00 pm
    • Oh, the local art is great, I want that mudroom even if I didn't win the house. I love the flow of the place it is so well thought out. I could use that workout room in the basement. love it all.

  119. Congratulations Tiffany, Carley and the HGTV crew, Job well done! I nearly fell out of of my chair when I saw the upper story guest room's wallpaper (not my taste it's so loud, I doubt anyone could sleep in there) and the unused rooms on both sides of the upper story are just wasted space?

The first plan shows a long narrow room just past the basement guest room, the new plans show a door and a window going into this room, but it is not there, also going down the stairs to the workout room the new plans show the wall stops right there, originally it showed more room with an offset on the outside wall, the plans also show a door going into somewhere?

  124. How fun! A big THANK YOU to everyone who makes these day-dreams possible! This year, I'm taking the dream to another level… I've even started scouting job opportunities in the area, in the event that my children and I are fortunate enough to have a reason to relocate. What a fun dream… room for the whole family, one bedroom bathed in my daughter's favorite color and the other with turtle shells on the wall that my son would go nuts over! There's even a little nursery that will be perfect for my new little nephew… due in AUGUST! Sigh… it's a beautiful home.

  125. Not only beautiful but well thought out. The master and A LAUNDRY on first floor for those who may have limited mobility. Thanks from the seniors and disabled set.
Two car garage, who has only one car in a family. With extra space for tools and storage cabinets.
Never thought some off the colors would go so well together. So it is an education in interior design.
Love the looks of the neighborhood, Like to have neighbors one can walk to.
Glad not in Florida, is being over used this year.
    Thanks.

  128. Love this house and location but a few things left me scratching me head. first the nursery being UP stairs and away from the parents. and the laundry room being upstairs away from the parents as well who will be the main users and have to lug laundry up and down stairs all the time. yeah i know it makes sense for it to be close to the nursery but kids grow up. also whats with the two big rooms on opposite sides of the second floor? are they usable? would be kind of a pita to trudge through the nursery or laundry room to access them? Thinking the laundry room should go in the pantry area with a laundry shoot from the second floor but thats just my two cents. oh and whats with the garage door on the back of the house? a work shop? and why not connect that with the main house internally? also wondering about the basement room in the back as well… guess thats were all the plumbing and heating stuff is??

Theswedge on April 8, 2016 at 6:35 am
    • There is a stackable washer dryer in the foyer of the master suite as well. the door at the back of the garage goes into the mud room/pantry that is connected to the house.

Snorkelboy on April 8, 2016 at 10:06 am
      • The small garage door on the basement level is a place to store lawn and garden equipment and is not connected to the rest of the house. That is what it looks like to me from the floor plans.

        ready2retire on April 8, 2016 at 3:18 pm
    • It seems that the upstairs storage spaces are very usuable and wouldn't be used often so the access isn't an issue.

DesignABCs on April 8, 2016 at 11:17 am
    • wonder why my phone reply didn't show up? anyway yeah I didn't notice the washer dryer in the master suite. however I am still interested in the two rather huge storage rooms on the second floor. lol i guess its because i cant see them on line so that makes me more curious. lol would definitely turn the big one into a game room and the small one into a library/ computer room. but yeah everything about this house is sweet. lot is a little small for my taste but that just means less stuff to mow and take care of!! unless this is one of THOSE communities that dont let you do your own yard work..lol love the design and designs inside and out. it looks livable and not pretentious or over the top..

Theswedge on April 8, 2016 at 1:48 pm
  129. Love this home!!!!! Can't find anything that I do not like. The layout works well for a family. The location is also great! I would like to see more of this property ie. the backyard and the extra spaces off the nursery, the storage area behind the upstairs laundry room and the storage area on the lower level. Is there also an attic? Storage space is a selling point for this home. The one confusing part of this house is the exercise room which is shown as a L-shape room in the floor plans but is rectangular in the 360 degree tour with an extra door. Good luck to all who enters, I plan on entering every day .

I am still in awe, when I look at the photos and tour of the home. I am in love with the master suite, and how the laundry area is attached to the master closet. The spa-like master on suite is heavenly and that would be my oasis. The location is perfect and close to my favorite football team the Carolina Panthers and my favorite player Cam Newton. You guys always seem to find a way to out do yourself!

  134. I can't believe that I am this excited about a house that is not mine, family or friends BUT I have to admit…I am in LOVE with this place. I am A GRIT, and somehow you have managed to capture so many things that I love into a wonderful flow! Porches are essential in the South and OMG you nailed it. The ocean although there are not a lot of direct references the colors (the bright aqua are spot on) and immediately real me. The island feel you have captured this in the tiles and in so many pictures, accessories, I can't even keep up. I am stunned to see so many of the things I hold dear blended together so well. Most people tend to think that theres one theme and thats it…..again LOVE LOVE the place. I have saved this because I am about to retire from the USAF as a flight nurse and due to numerous deployments I was unable to start a family. So I guess you could say I am a late bloomer because we are planning to start soon and the way the home office, nursery, kitchen and all flow is PERFECT. After living all all over the world for what will be 24 years I am headed back to my Southern roots, boy how you appreciate the small stuff when you are away. . Props to all involved!

  136. Smart Home 2016 in Raleigh is definitely a treasure, but what would you guess its market value to be?

According to the president of Homes by Dickerson, Brant Chesson, the house would likely sell for a few greenbacks over $1 million! Then you can add in the $100,000 check from Quicken Loans and the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC and you have quite a handsome Grand Prize Package.

I'm sure I won't be the only one waiting for the Sweepstakes Entry period to start on April 12!!!

    • Nooooooooo, I want a home I could afford to keep. ;-(
California and Oregon both take a huge chunk of the winnings. It is almost half!
I would hate to give up that mud room / pantry and those beautiful tiles in the kitchen. How could I walk away from the master closet WITH washer dryer? And the gym? Could I leave that? I don't think so!
Let's not even bring up the screened porch and patio areas. I also won't mention the rocking chairs on the front porch.

  137. Unlike the other homes, this home really speaks to us. We are planning to move in 2 years once I am done with my MBA; from Massachusetts to Raleigh, NC. We have family in North Carolina and we are def tired of the snow. We have researched homes and job in Raleigh already this home will definitely help us relocate.

  138. It appears that I am in the minority here but the decor is not what I would expect in a home in that area, seems more fitting for an Urban Oasis loft than a suburban Southern home. Too eclectic for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I am all for trying new things and all but the decor just seems to not flow together and bring in the charm of the area. Oh well, different strokes for different folks! I will still "enter to win" and should I win then mold it to my tastes.

The colors match ones already in my home. It's in the area I want to be in. It's the style of home I love- the comfort of traditional style with modern lines and conveniences. My pets will love the porch.

Got my fingers and toes crossed for this one!!!

Good luck to us all. Nice job Tiffany.

  147. If anyone has actually made it here to this blog, I contacted HGTV to inform them that the link is missing. They sent me a link to get here, so they are now aware there is a problem and hopefully will fix it.
Looking at the home page, IMO they were trying to fit too many links and "Blog" being the shortest word, got pushed off.

  149. Why is the Blog tab missing from the Smart Home Main page?

Lindingo on April 6, 2016 at 5:22 am
    • Looking over the lack of engagement from management in this blog I would not guess that is a mistake. I'm actually surprised this blog is still allowing comments. The other blogs have been discontinued/combined into "I Heart HGTV" where comments are no longer allowed. I suspect that is the future of the Dreams Happen blog.

      Ut4evr on April 6, 2016 at 8:18 am
      • Hi Ut4evr, hope my reply does not get you deleted. Perhaps…on the right track???It is a difficult balancing act to maintain an impartial blog while trying to keep sponsors placated, promote a build and remain impartial in the face of current political tornadoes. Just want to tell the blog admin people that I am aware and support all that HGTV and Scripps has done by virtue of their programming to promote and support all minorities.

Ashtabulannie on April 6, 2016 at 8:40 am
        • Ashtabulannie, I am fine with getting deleted. :) I agree, there is a balancing act between keeping sponsors happy and keeping the viewers happy. I feel blogging is an older form of social media that is changing everywhere. Short quips, not conversations is the new model. And as with all businesses, making money is the purpose of the HGTV business. If monitoring and interacting with comments on blogs is not a money maker that feature will disappear. Kind of sad, though, as I have learned much from the wide range of comments and views shared on the Dreams Happen blog over the past several years!

          Ut4evr on April 6, 2016 at 9:25 am
          • I contacted HGTV to inform them of the problem and NO we don't want to see you deleted!!!

            Eugenia27 on April 6, 2016 at 1:36 pm
        • I think HGTV just tried to put too much stuff on the link area.
After I contacted them, they sent me this link so I can get over here via email. Unfortunately I am having a difficult time with my email, I can't get email on my computer only on my phone and I can't copy the link from my phone to paste it on the other blog so people can have access here.
          Sometimes, technology really sucks

          Eugenia27 on April 6, 2016 at 1:39 pm
          • The home page for Home Giveaways has a link to the blog, as does the Dream Home link. Hope it is just an error.

            Ut4evr on April 6, 2016 at 5:14 pm
    • Thank you both for your answers. I remember in the past they shut particular blogs down for months on end after the builds. Then they all came back and stayed on. Maybe there are two factions of thought and they sway each other back and forth,

I haven't tried lately to post on the other builds, so I didn't know that was how the wind was blowing. That is helpful info. Thanks.

It is funny the things that have been virtually disappearing in my lifetime that I had never anticipated–newspapers, conversational written letters, landlines. I guess I shouldn't be surprised for our blogs to perhaps stop, but of course you are right that they may 100% completely stop, even for a build that is in current giveaway mode.

I missed all of the funny, bright, wonderful people on the message boards when that system was killed off, and I will miss all of you on the blogs, too, if that is the way it goes.

Thank you to HGTV for continuing the builds. Letting us enjoy the process is tremendous fun for us. Even if we become officially irrelevant to the point of extinction, we will always remain silently grateful for them.

Lindingo on April 6, 2016 at 11:04 am
      • I don't think HGTV is trying to do away with the blog, just yet. I think they just made a mistake.

        • I have used a blog for my work. I always had a list of what I wanted on the tabs. I crossed them off as I made sure the tab was there and that it worked. If everything didn't fit, I made priorities of what I thought was most important to be included. I think a professional editor would do the same.

I am glad there are these home giveaways. If the blog comments were to disappear I would still enjoy exploring each home. But as of now, DBCoop is our most reliable source of information! Where'd he find that photo of the back of the house? Go Coop!!

  155. Question: "Are there any good seating areas around Smart Home 2016 to settle into for a good read?"

Answer: "Yes, more than you can shake an e-reader (or paperback novel) at!"

Starting with the ideal spot to meet and greet your neighbors and still get those pages turned and the story told as the day unfolds, try one of the four tempting front porch rocking chairs and enjoy the views: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Step inside and set your sights on this handsome blue and white houndstooth chair thoughtfully placed near the living room fireplace for cozy winter reads: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Or take in the expansive living, dining room and kitchen views (between pages) from the Wesley accent chair with its high back, linen fabric and gray piping: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Tea for two and two to read? The matching accent chairs in the master bedroom sitting area, with velvety soft fabric and nail head trim are ideal for one or two dedicated readers: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Time for some open-air reading — without any of those pesky bugs trying to read over your shoulder? Head for the screened-in porch! Opt for one of the lively, not-so-mellow yellow chairs: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Or stretch out in front of the cultured stone fireplace on the light and oh-so-white slipcovered sofa for a special all-yours treat: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Here's a recipe for another innovative reading site — the spacious pantry! Whether it's planning a meal, reading (e)mail or writing out a grocery list, come on in and make yourself comfortable: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Looking for a room with a view? Or a secret hideaway? Try the guest bedroom's curtained niche to suit your reading mood: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Need some perfect background music to set the right tone for that romance novel, or maybe the headline news channel to go with the murder mystery you're totally into? Sit back, stretch out and relax on the media room's striped sectional sofa. There's room for you, or two or three! http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

A personal place for guests to enjoy a leisurely read followed by an afternoon nap or a late-night bedtime in their very own space is the terrace bedroom. With a carved-wood bobbin chair for comfort and style, they won't want to leave. Is that a good thing or bad? It's your call. http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

The covered porch? What more can you say than pick your spot, take a seat, curl up and leaf through those pages! Whether it's the raspberry high-backed chairs with gray cushions, open-weave wicker sofa, the pair of wicker chairs or a seat at the casual wining and dining table with room for eight, there are options galore — with scenic wooded views from any seat you choose! http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

For the young'uns (and the grown-ups reading to them) the Nursery's checked swivel glider is spot-on for putting those little guys and gals — and big ones too — right to sleep: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

When it comes to readin', writin' or 'rithmatic, there's no finer space to wile away the hours at work or at play than the conveniently situated and stylishly sophisticated home office: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

Finally, believe it or not, (unless you consider the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC an option for a quiet read) we've covered nearly every available Smart Home nook and cranny for assimilating those entertaining written words. But not quite. There's at least one more! That would be the master bathroom's freestanding soaking tub. Relax, read and live your dreams. Bubble bath and champagne optional: http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

There you have it, fellow dreamers — a most worthy Smart Home with a great story to tell.

      • Much of the Smart Home backyard is beautifully wooded, leaving a minimum amount of space for a pool. Still, the lucky winner could certainly have a small spool (spa/pool) added to the list of amenities.

        http://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgt

And although HGTV never promised us a rose garden, a thoughtful selection of rose bushes would provide a lively dash of color and Southern charm.

My favorite spouse thinks I have more books than I can read in my life time. I like the idea of having a different book in all those seating areas; might look like I have that many less books.

  156. The Zen Succulent Installation – Part II

"Installation: Creating Our Custom 'Living Wall' for the HGTV Smart Home 2016"

"We painstakingly applied each individual piece of greenery by hand which took over 18 total hours and designed the layout to mimic nature, free forming and collective.

We did not have a formal design pattern for the layout of each piece of greenery which has always been our preferred design process – this allows the piece to dictate that it wants and allows it to creatively flow and adapt."

  173. Oh my gosh, have you taken a good look at that Smart Home PANTRY?! It's well worth more than just a brief byline or a passing glance. (Thanks for the reminder, Eugenia.) The gallery photo caption says, "Room for Essentials." It's more like a multi-purpose space, with room for essentials, non-essentials, bare essentials or what-have-you! It's so spacious that you could host school rallies in there. Play frisbee. Hold a tea party. Film a reality TV show. Stock the shelves and open a 24/7 convenience store with ATM. So many possibilities!

  180. I imagine we've all been busy voting on our favorite Smart Home room and the final results will be revealing, but which room will be the top vote getter?

    http://www.hgtv.com/design/hgtv-smart-home/vote-f

The more I thought about my vote, the more I realized I should be voting with two priorities: The first, naturally, would be for the room I find most visually pleasing. That's the idea, right? Then I realized that I should probably also be placing my vote based on the amount of time I'd be spending in each room, in order of the most time to the least. That required a little more research.

So here is how I've ended up splitting my Smart Home vote….

Most aesthetically appealing, and calls out, "Come on in, relax, spend some quality time here."

    1. Screened Porch
    2. Master Bedroom
    3. Covered Porch
    4. Media Room
    5. Kitchen
    6. Living Room
    7. Home Office

Now, voting based on life studies of where and how we ACTUALLY spend the days of our lives:

    1. Master Bedroom — about 25 years sleeping, or 1/3 of our life, more or less
    2. Home Office — blogging, paying bills, emails, social media interaction, submitting HGTV Sweepstakes entries and time dedicated to various electronic media
    3. Media Room — watching 55-60 thousand hours of TV during an average lifetime (with 2 years worth of commercials… and 3 hour NFL broadcasts with 11 minutes of actual game play.)
    4. Screened Porch — a few required minutes of quiet time, getting away from it all. Whew!!
    5. Kitchen — where the average person spends 2.5 years cooking, while eating takes up 4 years during which you'll consume 35 tons of food.
    6. Living Room — sharing family time and entertaining friends to round out our days (since much of our time is otherwise spent cooking, cleaning, eating, sleeping and hooked up to electronics!)
    7. Covered Porch: sipping a favorite beverage or an after-dinner drink (along with about 12,000 cups of coffee over the years.)

On second thought, I'll forget the reality and follow the dream! That takes me right back to my first Smart Home love, the Screened-in Porch. Ah, just me, a glass of wine, wooded views… and an occasional howl from Terri if the phone happens to ring.

    • My favorite room isn't even on the list. I really like this house a lot. I could picture us and fur babies living here. This house is so well thought out, the flow is perfect.
My favorite room is the mud room / pantry. It is both practical and beautifully appointed. (should I win) I'd be entering the house through that door; knowing that I was home and it is mine.

        • BrendaInKansas and I have already split up the house. I get the main floor. She still hasn't placed dibs on either the lower level or the top floor. I guess you can have whichever level is left.
How does Terri feel about stairs?

          Eugenia27 on April 2, 2016 at 7:41 pm
          • I hope BrendainKansas makes up her mind soon on which level of the Smart Home she's going to claim. I'll need time to put my plans in place for downsizing to whichever level is left.

Although Terri doesn't have to navigate stairs in my single level home, she does zip up and down a flight of stairs from the mountain home deck when she spots a squirrel that's thumbing its nose at her.

  186. From Tiffany Brooks — beautifully inspired by the chaos of nature:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BDrj9LVEVgv/?taken-by

The Theory of Chaos is real by the way, and goes something like this: Nature, whether looked at with open eyes and a curious mind or steadfastly denied, often presents itself as an unpredictable and dramatic work of art. The landscape all around us is its canvas.

The other side of that theory is mankind's effort to constantly create order out of the natural chaos in the world around him. Tiffany Brooks has done so to great success with HGTV Smart Home 2016. Her attention to detail has gifted us with a visually pleasing blend of textures, fabrics, furnishings, style and color. The result is a careful mix of natural and artfully created beauty.

Best of all, we get to enter to win it, along with the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC and $100,000 from Quicken Loans. So while nature's winds of change may be blowing, the Smart Home 2016 Grand Prize Package is nothing to sneeze at!

  206. I'm going to be a little harsh here, because I expect a lot of HGTV. This house falls short.

Not sure who decorated this house, but holy clash.
I was excited to see that this was here in Raleigh, then I started going through the pictures. While the house overall is nice, one of the big areas I expect to be a focus in "smart home" is the media room. Looks more like that was an after thought.

    Media Room
    - A respectable 65" TV, but all the "decorations" on the table obstruct view from seating
    - Would have expected a large projector with lighting automation rather than a 65" TV. The TV in this room should have been in the Living "Room".
    - In wall speakers are setup for a stereo type use. Angling appears off for theater viewing
    - You mention the couch, paint and door, but completely skip over the Nest, audio and lighting. Heck you worked in a Farmers Insurance ad on the tablet on the coffee table. Seriously?
    - Wrong type of curtains for a media room. Those should be black out curtains, otherwise you will suffer from glare on that TV when using it during the day.

    Home Office
    - The room has a nice layout, but none of the seating appears to be ergonomic.
    - Table is in the middle of the room. While that is nice, what happens that laptop needs to be plugged in….or if you use a desktop? Cords will be draped across the open space causing a tripping hazard.
    - Is this even a room. If you look in the 360 view it appears to be a loft type space. An office is defined as "a room or set of rooms , or a building used as a place for commercial, professional, or bureaucratic work". A room is defined as "a part of division of a building enclosed by walls, floor, and ceiling". There are only 3 walls for this area and it is open to the stairs. That would make for a noisy works space.

    Screened Porch
    - I love the large open wall/door way.
    - Does this go out to a deck of some sort where outdoor grilling/cooking can be done?

    Garage
    - Could have added a parking sensor.
    - Could have added LED lighting rather than standard florescent

    Front Yard
    - Is there irrigation? Is it a smart irrigation system? This is Raleigh, NC and that is fescue grass. It will struggle without water in the summer months.
    - Smart walk path lighting?

    Living Room
    - View of TV is obstructed but the fireplace mantel for half the seating.

    CraigM919 on April 1, 2016 at 12:54 pm
    • Media Room
-the objects on the table does not block the view of the 65"tv. The TV is higher than the coffee table.
-Really? Complaining about a Farmers Insurance add? Kinda petty.
-The curtains in the media room are blackout and awesome
      Home Office
-You ever thing that the desk might have electrical outlets?
-The other comment, in my opinion is petty also
      Screen Porch
-Yes there is a door out there that leads to a deck where the grill is as well as stairs that lead down to the lower level patio
      Garage
      -no comment
      Front Yard
      -Yes there is irrigation
      Living Room
-Again, the view of the TV is not obstructed, the TV turns. They did not want the TV to be the focal point of the room.

Overall the house is amazing and I think Tiffany and HGTV should be celebrated for making such a beautiful house. 77 comments and 76 of them can't be wrong.

-signed just someone who saw the house in person. I don't work for the network.

Love The House on April 1, 2016 at 1:58 pm
      • Glad to hear that the TV in the media room isn't blocked.
Not complaining directly about the Farmers Insurance add. I just find it frustrating when the home is supposed to be focusing on the Smart Home features, yet they would rather call out ads that they slipped in to the pictures. If is a general problem with media.
As to the curtains. You can clearly see outside light coming through the curtains in the pictures. That means they aren't true blackout curtains. You will have a glare on the TV. (the little things can add up to big things)

If there is power in the desk in the office, then they should have called that out (not the paint on the wall). I assume there isn't since there doesn't appear to be a poke through in the floor, or a keystone plate. Yet there is an outlet on the wall on both sides of the desk.
Not having an "office" with four walls and closable door should be a problem for just about anyone who truly works from home (not just home type work, but full telecommuting).

Awesome to hear that you can get down to the grilling area from the screened porch.

Is the irrigation a smart system that works on a schedule and using ground moisture monitors? With water restrictions in the area, that should have been a big call out in the pictures and walk thru.

I understand not wanting the TV to be the focal point, however I would have thought they would have gone to modern options like Mirror TV.

        CraigM919 on April 1, 2016 at 2:33 pm
        • Seeing how the sponsors are paying for this project, we can expect subtle (or even in your face) ads.

Normally, Carlie (sp?) adds videos through out the entry period, high lighting the Smart features.

Keep checking in, there is more to come.

      • Just giving honest thoughts.
I really like the house overall, but all too often people focus only the positive things in something like this. When that happens, the little things don't get addressed. Over time the little things add up to something huge (through future designs) that aren't easily fixed.
Also, people are talking about this house as if it is some sort of marvel of tech and design. While it is nice, it is no marvel (IMHO).

        CraigM919 on April 1, 2016 at 2:34 pm
    • I got to tour the house this weekend with the neighbors of the house, and this house does not clash at all. Actually all the areas match and blend very well. Plus all the rooms have their own personality which is very awesome. All of the different textures, patterns and the art…is a big WOW! They didn't fall short and neither did Tiffany Brooks. They knocked it out of the park! I'm sure her stock is about to rise after this! I want her to come back and do our house!!!
And I agree with "Love This House", the majority of people commenting can't be wrong about the beauty of this home.

      • I have to know ….. is the wall paper in the guest bedroom, pleasing, in person?

        Eugenia27 on April 2, 2016 at 4:55 pm
    • Hi Craig. I appreciated your post. As most decorators do, there are way to many things decorating every surface for my taste. But I figure the new owner will launch most of that anyway and put up their own art and "stuff".

The product placement is determined by who paid for it, not what's especially interesting or useful. I'm interested to know if the media room has black out lining on those drapes. You can't see that function, it looks like any white lining. Hope they'll let us know. Also, usually a separate company sets up the sound system in the homes. Maybe a post will let us in on that. And designers usually try to hide the TV in rooms, too, just like here.

I agree that loft/office isn't much of an office. I would move it into the nursery, which is a pretty small room for a bedroom. I don't think those loft spaces get used much in homes, at least not the families I know who have them. They usually gather kids' toys. Lamps on tables in the middle of rooms have outlets in the floor typically. No tripping or fire hazard that way. But I haven't really looked at this space carefully to see where the cords are.

There have been some videos posted on the Smart Home video page that talk about the smart features. Hopefully we'll hear about more of them. But usually the biggest emphasis is on the Bassett HGTV brand furniture. Marketing! Gotta pay for this prize somehow.

I want to hear more about the kitchen appliances, but it doesn't look like Electrolux is a sponsor so I doubt we will. I noticed the cabinets are thankfully an upgrade this year. Just quickly looking at the photos I didn't like the lack of privacy between the master bedroom and the deck – open fireplace, no blinds on the glass door. My frustration is that unlike the past, now the home is completed before we get any info. In the past blog posts answered many of our questions as the home was being built, long before the reveal. HGTV was sold a while ago and things changed a lot, not all for the better. This blog suffered not for the better changes I think.

But for being a transitional style home this one is pretty nice. I just prefer modern and sleek. I'd never keep any of the homes anyway. Take the money and run.

  212. I've spent about 3 hours exploring every room in the house. I absolutely LOVE it!! I already live in Raleigh and love it here….now if only I could have this dream home! I don't know if I can name a one favorite place. The outdoor space is AMAZING and the nursery is PERFECT for the next child my husband and I are planning. I'm sure I'm dreaming, but it would be a dream come true to have this beautiful home! Tiffany and the HGTV crew have done an awesome job!

I love the cozy blue sofa in the TV room–looks so inviting to just lie down and watch my favorite show! I also love the 2 laundry rooms–great idea! Gorgeous home, HGTV!!

  216. What an amazing job on this year's Smart Home! I truly Love everything about this home except the wallpaper in the guest bedroom. A bit loud for my taste but I LOVE everything else about this home! The artwork is FABULOUS and the porches? To die for! I would most likely live in the master bath, loving the tub! You've outdone yourselves and I would feel very safe in this home!!!!

I won't have time until this weekend to comment in detail, but needless to say, I'm impressed. You went for the bold, girl! So fun. But you also totally covered the functional. Such thoughtful design. It is very clear that you poured your heart and soul into this project. Thank-you!!!

DBCoop on March 31, 2016 at 11:02 pm
    • From the conversations I have had with Terri, I think she would like your #1 choice. I think Tiffany would approve the style for the nursery.
Although, if you chose your #5 picture, could you please send my dog home first.

  225. I can't choose one space, every room is inviting and Ican picture myself there. If I have to pick just one room I would have to say the pantry.
I know, weird huh? It is so practical and I appreciate practical.
Walk in, toss Mail on the desk, hang up coat & take off shoes. Drop off groceries in the pantry and look around to get an idea what to make for dinner.
Who wouldn't love walking into that room, every night after work?

    Eugenia27 on March 31, 2016 at 9:05 pm
    • Eugenia, I'm with you. I love that pantry space. The tile floor pattern is a great idea. Love all of that storage and places to put things short term and to stay a while. Yep, I could be happy in that space every day after work! My next favorite space is the exercise room. I really like that wall paint pattern and the drips of paint. But I probably wouldn't spend as much time there as the pantry. :) (I'm not a fan of that see-through fire place in the master bedroom, though. No privacy!)

      Ut4evr on March 31, 2016 at 11:15 pm
      • I too like the floor in the pantry. The entire room is so well thought out.
My number 2 room is the gym. Those workout machines are so cool. Having that mirror is a necessity for weight lifting. The only thing is, I have to figure out how to play my workout videos. I didn't see a player.
As for the 2 sided fire place; seeing how it is just the two of us, no worries. I was thinking of putting up a stylish room divider/screen just between the door and fireplace (in the bedroom) Should give the privacy needed and shouldn't distract from the look of the room

        Eugenia27 on April 1, 2016 at 5:21 pm
  226. where do I find the floor plan?

Cat Cee on March 31, 2016 at 8:40 pm
  227. After looking at all the pictures I think the Master bedroom and bath are my favorites. I am not sure about the drapes in the media room or the wall paper in the quest bedroom. A little too much for me so I would probably change those things if I were lucky enough to win this amazing home. What neighborhood near Raleigh is the home in? What size is the nursery room? Would there be space enough to build another bedroom and bath on the main floor off the back or side? Is there any storage space in the basement? What is the name of the flooring used in the baths? also the name of the flooring used in the screen porch and living area's. I have many more questions but these will do for now! I love the look of the home and I am going to try really hard to enter everyday . So far I have entered every home sweepstakes that HGTV has ever had, maybe this time I will be the lucky one! I love that it isn't in Florida!!!

    • THE home is located in nw Raleigh near my house. I rode in the neighborhood to check it out since I am so close. It is beautiful in person! I would love to win, and it would be near my friends. I do not understand why their is a nursery but that can be changed a long with the wild wallpaper in guest room. It would be hard to fall asleep in that room. Good Luck everyone.

You asked for us to list our favorite spaces, but it will be easier to list the areas of which I'm not as fond. If and when I happen to find something I don't adore, I'll let you know. I love the eclectic decorating and the smart conveniences are fantastic. And many thanks to the person who decided to put in a built in espresso machine for me. There are so many wonderful things done to this home that you would have to post a whole page. Thank you all for such a wonderful job, you can see a lot of love and integrity went into this home.

  235. My favorite room of all was the mudroom/ office/ pantry. My favorite part were the organization and the bench as soon as you come in. The kitchen is my second favorite room. I have to admit a Mercedez and the nursery was my stuning part. I also have a question for Virginia Moon what happen with the two spaces upstairs? ( the room with a door from the nursery and the door from the upstair laundry room) What are in them can you please comment about it.

  236. We know, we know, Tiffany, and we're clicking through those Smart Home photos and feasting our eyes on all the style, color and details as fast as our eyes can take it in!

Yes indeed, we're eagerly touring, busy as can be posting, sharing thoughts, conferring– and pleased to say this Smart Home is most definitely alluring. We'd even be submitting our two daily entries if only we could, but alas, wait until April 12 we must!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BDocemIEVl1/

By the way, if I was to win Smart Home 2016, would you mind if I changed out the hot pink lumbar pillow and the rectangular ottoman at the end of the bed for a deep blue hue and tossed in some throw pillows with a more masculine complementary color and pattern to suit my style? Otherwise, the master bedroom is a perfectly serene scene I could spend many happy hours lounging in.

  237. This home is definitely WOW worthy! A beautifully done, well thought out home. I can totally see all of the design features working wonderfully for a large family! I love the dual laundry rooms..huge closets, tons of storage. All the space for activities both inside and out. A truly wonderful home! Great job HGTV!!!!!!! This is the first of all the sweepstakes homes done by DIY and HGTV that I would not change at all in regards to floor plan, space and functionality. WONDERFUL! Now I'm just hoping to win it! LOL ;)

  238. Just look at the fitness area…WOW! All the equipment that my hubby loves. The big mirror, a teens dream too. ;) Not sure if that is a Mercedes out front BUT if so, a trade-in for 2 nice but affordable vehicles if an option and gift our current cars which are thankfully nice to a person or two in need.

    Best wishes all.

The indoor spaces are so unique and funky and I totally LOVE the way that you have incorporated the outdoor space. 2 laundry rooms, awesome guest rooms and bathrooms. • It's certainly not to my taste with all of the bold patterns and crazy color combinations, but I really think that's what bold means–to step so far out of the conventional box that it isn't going to be pleasing to EVERYONE's eye. The "guest room" wallpaper actually gives me a headache.

However, the designer obviously knows what she's doing. Her style absolutely oozes out of every inch of that home and that is fabulous. There is no way I would describe any part of the decorating as "awful"… that's just mean.

  242. Looking at the floor plans, it looks like there are two extra rooms; one off the nursery, and the other off the laundry room.

    Does anyone else see this?

    edodd1 on March 31, 2016 at 3:17 pm
    • Yes those two extra rooms. What happen with them?

Scruzreyes on March 31, 2016 at 4:54 pm
    • Must be left as storage due to roof slope, they might have the tech equipment hiding there.

Moveinready on March 31, 2016 at 6:04 pm
      • Those rooms are full height, although with angled corners, with plenty of nice windows, ready to be finished off.
Also note that they cut the exercise room in half, from what it shows in the floor plans, so they could have put the mechanicals in that space, or else in the long basement space which runs parallel to the front of the house.

        Addy243 on April 2, 2016 at 6:05 pm
    • Yes, those rooms are left for the future home owner to finish off if they wish. They have full height ceilings and plenty of nice windows. The room over the garage has a beautiful big dormer window. You can see the space in photo #27 in the "under construction" photo gallery.

      • We need Gail the super fan, back. I want to see every nook and cranny

        Eugenia27 on April 2, 2016 at 7:43 pm
        • I know! I have so many questions.
I'm dying to see that "garage" space at the back of the house and, of course, the two large unfinished spaces on the top floor and what happened to half of the exercise room. Oh, and where is the mechanical space and how large is the attic space in the very top peak of the house? And just how much space is there in the backyard?
Oh, and how do you turn off the pendant lights above the night stands in the master bedroom? Do you have to use an app on your mobile device or, yikes, get out of bed? And why isn't there a privacy shade on the glass door in the master bedroom leading out to the screened porch?
Oh, how I miss our Gail!

          Addy243 on April 3, 2016 at 12:04 am
          • Just yesterday I noticed on the ground level in the back of the house there is a storage area for lawn mowers and such.

            Eugenia27 on April 15, 2016 at 5:43 pm
      • That's great to know and makes house even better!!

        cunningham4ever on April 13, 2016 at 8:25 pm
    • They are the last set of images, on page two, of the gallery of photos under the "photos" tab on the teal banner which runs along the top of the page.
You need to hit the "photos" tab twice in order to bring up the sets of images to get that set. Oddly the floor plan gallery, and several others, are not listed in the pull-down menu, so you need to get to the images of the galleries.

  249. I absolutely adore the Smart Home for 2016. I love the location, the house – there is not one inch that isn't absolutely exquisite. I have entered for 4 years for both the Dream Homes, and the Smart Homes. This is one I can honestly say is one of my stand out favorites. My husband, children, and I have had two very tough years, and although I certainly hope I win this home. I simply wish that whoever wins it….truly adores it, and treats it with love. Any of us would be extremely lucky to win this home or any of the homes. I find it difficult to wish for and/or pray for myself to win, I can only wish and pray that we all have the best opportunity because we do follow and we enjoy cheering one another on and certainly congratulate the previous winners. Please forgive me the following…but I dare to dream that I may be the one to win this home.

  252. Where do I begin, to tell this Smart Home story, filled with very special things… a sweet love story, I'm not imagining… where do I start?

Where do I start? Right with the front porch, where those four rocking chairs and the charm of all that curb appeal sing gently of Home Sweet Home! Who wouldn't want to spend hours there dreaming the day away?

While this is definitely a very high-tech home, I like a bit of the traditional too, with the built-in corner cabinets in the dining room together with some of the other thoughtful Craftsman style architectural touches found both inside and outside.

The kitchen has everything you could want including a generous wine fridge. That's important!

I'll take the relaxing space of the master suite with its own fireplace to cozy up by. Besides, there's that awesome screened in porch to enjoy on lazy summer afternoons.

What about the media room, whether it's just for some quiet time alone or family time, it's done just right — and then there's that great covered porch with all kinds of seating for relaxing or entertaining.

And that gym? I think I could manage to drag myself away from the rest of this comfy home and get myself in there for a workout now and then.

Of all these Smart Home spaces to love, I think my favorite might be the media room… possibly tied in first place with the screened-in porch off the master suite.

By the way, my canine kid, Terri, has already claimed the children's room as hers….

Yep, I'm definitely in on this one. Let's see, the Sweepstakes starts April 12 through June 2, 2016. That's 52 days, times 2 entries each day equals 104 hopeful entries. I'll try for a perfect entry score!

    • I am digging the upstairs laundry, maybe if I win it my daughter can learn to do her own. I won't have to be toting hers up and down stairs all the time, lol.

Gandomel on March 31, 2016 at 10:22 am
    • Both machines being able to send message to the smartphone telling the person the laundry is finished is a nice feature. No longer will parents be the chore minder. Lol
Love the enclosed upstairs outdoor deck. Looks very inviting! Love the height of the lower patio…..do the beams have a tasteful way to keep the winged friends from building their dream nests in them? Late winter days, my husband places wood pieces up on ours to keep this from happening so we don't experience nightmare returns of "The Birds". They are very protective of their young! So….something to deter their diy nest building would be welcomed.

        • It's going, Coop! Walking much better than before. Definitely want to continue improving so I'll be ready for summer, especially mini-vacations, because I desperately need one right about NOW!!! :)

  259. The media room and the dining room, which both have a very rich color scheme. The main art pieces just add to the bold feel; it definitely makes my inner artist sing :3

  260. Wow, there are so many showstoppers in the HGTVSM2016! The abstract art, the wild wallpaper, the knobs and pulls, and the luxe furniture all work together in a way that is classy without compromising on fun. Welcome to the jungle.

    • As a decorator myself, it took me back by the bold patterns
and colors used. The home is lovely I like the layout.
When it comes to furniture, backsplash & counter tops I prefer
to go natural, it makes it owner friendly! But come in bold
with accents : pillows Throws ETC:
Homeowners usually have there favorite things they like to
      incorporate into the home decor.
All in all a nice home.

  264. Leo Gus totally agree with YOU and happy to see others supporting the LGBT community along with many other prominent CEOS. But your post will be removed shortly by the admin people here as was mine. I was sincerely hoping that the CEO's of Scripps network and HGTV would come out in support of rescinding this backward legislation.
