It is now and again perplexing to just choose to be giving out steps which often people today could have been trying to sell. Therefore we figure out we need the writer to give thanks to for that. It just so happens that blue is and has always been her favorite color. I have been looking at this house every day envisioning myself and my family inside of it, somewhere safe. I'd be able to give my niece and nephew the life they deserve to have. I work so hard, I'd love to find an amazing job in Raleigh and relocate my family. And, having a baby is definitely in my near future plans. It's as if this house was made for us. I know a lot of other people want and deserve it too, I know we all deserve it! God, thank you and thank you to HGTV for opportunities like this! Life is good. I know whomever wins, will be so very blessed! <3

All the technology on the home could have easily given the home a sterile, futuristic feel. Tiffany, you did an amazing job decorating and designing this home. It's cozy but inspiring. It's modern with classic comfort. And I love the artwork and worldly touches. The technology and decor is the perfect marriage of modern day creativity. Crossing my fingers. Sending up prayers.

  49. I don't like the kitchen at the front of the house ( the oven is literally in the living rm) and would have swapped location with family room to have access to the back/side yard. From the video tour, the upstairs rooms seemed really small and there should have been two MBR options (ground floor and top floor). The front porch is underwhelming, I prefer a traditional southern porch. For new construction I wasn't impressed but would definitely live there and "make do" if I win.

I can walk into space and create a masterpiece; like a work of art! That's why HGTV and DIY are so important to me. I do not have much time to watch television, but when I do; Property Brothers or Love It or List It gives me great inspiration, to keep pushing. My entire family has been entering these sweepstakes since the 2009 Dream Home. I pray that I win this home for my children and me; Lord knows we need it right now more than ever and deserve it! Most importantly, we will appreciate it and do much good with everything that comes with it! #DreamComeTrue #InJesusName

  72. This is not my favorite house at all. There is nothing soothing about the Terrace Bedroom. It would make my quests run not feel invited. The media room is a joke and looks like it was just thrown together. No thought was put in the interior design at all. Horrible.

Cher on May 6, 2016 at 8:56 am
  73. This has got to be one of the most modern yet traditional homes HGTV has set out to design. I love the mud room off the pantry, the porch is to die for, the skylight in the bathroom OMG, the open concept downstairs lends a beautiful view at every angle. There are so many wonderful design elements tying one room to the other. As an artist, this matters a lot to me. I do not go for the Edgar Allen Poe concept. I like a flow from one space to another, pulling color with accessories to tie in the structure. Tiffany you did a great job on this home.

As an artist and graphic designer, I can see myself in this home the majority of my life. The baby room would be converted to a studio. I could get up and have my expresso, go work out, have breakfast, start dinner in a crock, get my shower, and go to work everyday. Then chill on the weekend and get to know my neighbors and fellow artist in the area. What a world, would totally love this place. My husband would also love it. He has low vision and needs the open design because it keeps him from bumping into stuff. He could finally have the office with great lighting, and we could mount a large screen television for a screen for use with his computer. I blew the pics up on mine and he just loved the home. His favorite place was the enclosed porch and the kitchen. Go figure. Relaxing and eating-both his favorite past-times. But at 61 who really cares he can do what he wants. I love art and he loves nature. This home offers both experiences and opportunities. Love it, love it, love it.

  78. I want to win this home! My daughter lives in North Carolina and my granddaughter lives and works in Cary right next to this area. My grandson is in College at App. State. I need to be with them. What a God sent blessing it would be to be close to my loves. I have wanted to move there but that is almost impossible for my husband and I. Our van has 250,000 miles so a new car would be the cherry on the top, being retired has change our lives to become simpler. Another bonus is we love to play Golf and being in the Carolinas is perfect for us. I absolutely love the décor, job well done. I would have chosen many of the same things. I can see this beautiful home decorated for the holidays. "When God closes a door, if you wait, another will open"

  81. Friday, April 29, 2016 is National Arbor Day. To celebrate, you can plant a tree, submit two entries and dream of winning Smart Home 2016 with its backyard forest of Longleaf Pines — the North Carolina State Tree, or….

Read about Tree Talk — parental Arbor Day advice that might be given to a sapling:

Always stand tall and proud and reach for the sky

Drink plenty of water and stay well-hydrated

Think twice before barking up the wrong tree

Branch out and make your neighbors green with envy

Enjoy the views from the top

Don't be afraid to go out on a limb

Springtime brings thoughts of the birds and the bees

The winds of change are always blowing

    Autumn leaves must fall

Age is only a number — live well and live long

Stand your ground in the face of adversity

After every storm the clouds will pass and the sun will shine

It's never too late to turn over a new leaf

Wisdom comes with age, true beauty is timeless

Most important of all, remember your roots!

The joy of being a tree… imagine all of the wonderful things you'll see: http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1106100/images/o-ARBOR-

What a picture of that magnificent tree- hope it is allowed to continue to grow————- and bring " awe" to generations to come. So many times trees are cut down, for progress. Wish you and all the bloggers a beautiful day and a special Arbor Day to enlighten all of us about trees !

  82. The interior design of this house, simply put, is a hot mess. Too much going on and really very taste specific. Its a shame, really, because it appears that the basics of a good design are there but then the designer did not know when to stop and had to "go over the edge". She may be good but a little over anxious to leave her "mark"!

southernlady on April 27, 2016 at 8:34 am

  84. I find it curious a post originally appearing on the 14th reminding us to watch a show airing on the 18th is still the most current info we have. I really do wonder if there will be any other posts on this blog before the winner is chosen. Info (construction photos, technology videos) seems to appear on the Smart Home main page instead of here where we can talk about it.

    Ut4evr on April 26, 2016 at 7:20 pm
  85. It's becoming harder and harder to make a comment on the blog. Why? Because the only thing I can say is I would like to live there, just as I've said about every HGTV home giveaway. Does that make me a house _ _ _ _ _? Just saying!

Lessie on April 26, 2016 at 5:00 pm
    • Some houses are more homey than others. Take Jack T. and Linda W.'s last Dream Home in Martha's Vineyard. That home was inviting and screamed HOME.

The very first Smart Home was over the top with no hall ways anywhere. I liked that one a lot. Jack T. (in my opinion) blew it with the 3 TVs. It made it difficult to arrange furniture around.

Both the first SH and the Tennessee SHs had pantries, but this one has to be my favorite. Granted the first SH had a great mud room / pantry which was actually more logical but the first SH didn't have an attached garage.

Each home makes me think, I could live there. I am still waiting for an HGTV Earthship! I would love to see a totally tricked out Earthship. When you are manually opening skylights to adjust the heat/cooling, a solar powered skylight would have so much more WOW factor.

      Eugenia27 on April 27, 2016 at 1:13 pm
      • Loved the Jack T. and Linda W. homes!!! Also like the way you think, Eugenia. It's easy to picture myself in an HGTV home, so can everyone else. Thanks!

      • LOL! That only means you'll have more room to stretch out and relax! Enjoy!

Lessie on April 27, 2016 at 7:35 pm
        • I usually sit crossed legged in most chairs so my legs don't dangle, otherwise I sit at the very edge of the seat so my feet will touch the ground. For years my favorite spouse used to tell me to "sit back and be comfortable". I kept telling him I could do one or the other but not both; I could sit back OR be comfortable.
I think that is why I like rocking chairs so much because I can sit back and every so often my feet can touch the ground.

      It was a wonderful feeling.
If you virtually loose me in the house Lessie, check the front porch, I may be out there rocking.

  95. Just how smart is HGTV's Smart Home 2016? Here's why you should ask…

According to a businessinsider.com report by John Greenough, these are the important points to know about the state of smart homes in the US:

Smart home devices are becoming more prevalent throughout the US. [In spite of some continuing resistance to the trend.]

Currently, the US smart home market as a whole is in the "chasm" of the tech adoption curve. The chasm is the crucial stage between the early-adopter phase and the mass-market phase, in which manufacturers need to prove a need for their devices.

High prices, coupled with limited consumer demand and long device replacement cycles, are three of the four top barriers preventing the smart home market from moving from the early-adopter stage to the mass-market stage.

The largest barrier is technological fragmentation within the connected home ecosystem. Currently, there are many networks, standards, and devices being used to connect the smart home, creating interoperability problems and making it confusing for the consumer to set up and control multiple devices.

"Closed ecosystems" are the short-term solution to technological fragmentation. Closed ecosystems are composed of devices that are compatible with each other and which can be controlled through a single point.

That's pretty much the good, the bad and the techy about the status of America's love/hate relationship with smart home technology.

Except for one very important piece of information about the HGTV Smart Home — from Peter Walsh: HGTV Smart Home 2016 is filled with technological features that will enable the homeowner to control the heating, air conditioning, window blinds and drapes, audio and visual components, lighting and more with AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON from A SMART PHONE OR TABLET, explains Scott Branscom, [Homes by Dickerson] project manager. “What makes this a smart home is that there is an integration of a wireless system that controls many aspects of the home,” he says. Plus it’s easy to use.

The GOOD NEWS then? Intercompatability is no problem at HGTV Smart Home 2016 — it is essentially a closed ecosystem of high-tech wizardry. And that, my friends, is why there's nothing to fear about going smart. Not with HGTV's Smart Home and Carley Knobloch on the job.

So be happy and keep smiling, whether you're already a techie or a techie-in-training!

On that note, can you identify with any of these smartoons?

Can you spot all the changes in these three Home Office photos? Focus on the desktop. Some are obvious, others are very subtle. It just goes to show that careful staging to highlight the features, furnishings and interior design of each space — even from photo to photo — takes time and talent! Every detail in each of the photos by Robert Peterson of Rustic White Photography is thoughtfully placed — or replaced.

  118. My mother and step-father have been entering to win one of these homes for years. This will be the first time for us though.
Not only is this house located perfectly for work and is set-up for a tech-savvy family (which I love), but for the past 8 years my husband and I have been waiting and praying for a child. We are expecting our first child, a boy, due just after the drawing for this home. I would absolutely love to bring him home to that beautiful nursery, cook and bake many meals in that massive kitchen, and sit down to eat at a real dinner table (we currently do not have the room for one).
My step-father passed away last summer unexpectedly due to Pancreatic Cancer and we have been trying to find a way to make room for both a new born and my mother. I can't even say how much of a blessing this home would be for both my husband, our son and I but, for my mother and hopefully many others.
Our current home would be paid for by the Quicken loan check and fulfill a long time dream of mine to become a haven/home for single mother's who are working to find a place to stay but cannot afford to rent. I already have a family in mind that have been anxiously looking for somewhere to go for over a year.
I am sure whoever wins will be deserving, I just hope that it will be a blessing to many.

    Mrs. Mommy-to-be on April 21, 2016 at 4:59 pm
    • You are going to need the Quicken Loan to pay toward the income taxes that will be due. That's why virtually everyone has to sell. But that still leaves fantastic winnings to put towards a smaller home. It's always fun to daydream about what you could do if you did have the money to pay the income taxes and could keep such a wonderful home. Best wishes.

Lindingo on April 21, 2016 at 5:22 pm
      • I've read online that most people have to sell because of taxes too… wouldnt it be better to take the cash option? Or can you do that?

Jennifer on April 21, 2016 at 6:07 pm
        • Yes and pay lots of taxes on the cash option too.!!

LighthouseKid on April 21, 2016 at 8:44 pm
      • Thank you! I have done the research on the area based on the comparable homes in the neighborhood. HOA fees, yearly taxes and other fees are much higher than what we currently have but not having a mortgage would be affordable based on our income. I totally forgot about what uncle Sam would get. A minimum of $500,000 in taxes and based on the neighborhood the house minus the furnishings will only be worth $199,000-$280,000 over the tax fee. WOW! That is just sad.

        Mrs. Mommy-to-be on April 22, 2016 at 3:58 pm
    • Your heart is in the right place. I know you would do good things with the winnings regardless if you tried to keep the home or used the cash option.
We were lucky enough to have my Mom live with us, her last 6 years.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. We could never get pregnant, so I know how excited you must have been when it finally happened. You are truly blessed.
Good luck with the SH Sweepstakes.

Lessie on April 22, 2016 at 11:18 pm
        • If I could afford to keep it (only in my dreams) you would definitely be invited over for an extended stay.
Let's plan the bloggers bash. Seeing how you asked first, you can choose which room you want to stay in. Sorry, the favorite spouse isn't giving up the master suite on the main floor.
You and DeerSpring would be in charge of the grill/BBQ. Sorry, no meat cooked indoors.
AliceSoneysMom will be in charge of the music videos and Hokiemom can do the live music.

          Your turn.

          Eugenia27 on April 23, 2016 at 1:52 pm
          • Works for me Eugenia. Since I can't have the Master Suite, guess I'll settle for the Basement. Notice I said the basement, not a room. :)

Grillin' is fine. Will check with Deer to see what we should grill. All I gotta say is you better have some awesome non-meat dishes since there's a no-meat ban inside. Who's in charge of the drinks….Coop?

Alice will do an awesome job. So will Hokiemom! When Hokiemom begins the live entertainment, I'm taking a seat cuz it will be great!

  123. Hmm, what do you think? Is 2016 the year of the Smart Home?

I found this article, coming after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, pertinent and of interest while it gives honest opinions on the whole hi-tech spectrum:

    http://www.techradar.com/us/news/digital-home/vid

I thought the title to one of the included articles quite funny — "I brush my teeth with my Smartphone and now my smile is cutting edge" — but not sure I'm ready to use an app to help me with the job. ^_^

Oh well, even if I didn't use all of the hi-tech wizardry to its fullest advantage in the attractively finished HGTV Smart Home, I'm still eagerly submitting my two daily entries in hopes of being the lucky winner!

  124. Chris Lambton shares a few tips on setting up the Smart Home landscaping and creating “smart curb appeal” in the following video.

Raleigh is located in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina which translates to a red clay soil, the same clay you use to make pottery and bricks! The red clay is actually rich in nutrients and holds water well as Chris explains that great things will begin to happen in the Smart Home garden with a topping of rich organic matter that will build up over time and mix for beautiful results. After all, kudzu grows in abundance in the red soil without any help! : )

  126. If you watched the Smart Home 2016 special on HGTV, you'll probably remember a reference and a quick view of the leaded glass kitchen cabinets that were custom designed and made by Raleigh artisan Mark Gill.

Well, here's a fascinating and detailed look into the actual process behind bringing those beautiful glass cabinet doors to life: http://videos.hgtv.com/video/locally_crafted-glas

And a little reminder of just how perfectly those leaded glass cabinets complement the kitchen's decor:

    • My favorite features in this house are all the hand made items. The tiles in the kitchen, the leaded glass in the cabinets, the wood art piece in the media area and even the painting on the wall in the workout room.
As far as Tech goes, the refrigerator that helps plan the evening meal and the solar powered skylights are my favorites.

  154. I have a very important question about entries! I've been entering for the houses about 5 maybe 6 years now and I have been entering 2 entries a day for me and 2 entries a day for my husband with different emails of course. Is this allowed?? I'm going over the rules and it seems vague to me. Can anyone clear this up for me? I hate to think I've been doing it wrong all this time but if I have been doing it wrong I can change it. Thanks for any help in this matter.

    I love this house.

    Annamill1 on April 17, 2016 at 9:15 am

the kitchen backsplash tile isn't my favorite, but it is different. i would have chosen something that didn't have such a short 'shelf-life' of interest. it reminds me too much of the 'mushroom' kitchen decor trend of the 1970's.
