The HGTV Smart Home 2013 Giveaway entry period is nearing its end. HGTV Urban Oasis 2013 is under construction. But what about HGTV Dream Home 2014? Happy news: We will soon announce the 2014 location. But not before we do a little teasing and clue dropping in this blog.

A big congratulations goes out to Carole Simpson of Columbia, Tennessee. She is the winner of HGTV Dream Home 2013, a brand-new GMC® Acadia® Denali® and $500,000. Her winning entry was submitted on February 13, 2013, and randomly drawn from over 77 million entries.

Carole, a former marine, is an avid fan of HGTV and has entered both HGTV’s home giveaways and Travel Channel’s sweepstakes for several years. Our winner is an avid reader and also enjoys crochet, needlepoint and cooking.

A self-proclaimed “army brat”, Carole has traveled the world and is the proud parent of two children: a daughter (who incidentally helped HGTV’s Monica Pedersen and crew ambush her mom) and a son who lives in Australia. Our winner says she will use part of her cash prize winnings to visit her son and his family down under.

“It never occurred to me that I could win,” says Carole. “Those who didn’t win, keep trying. If it happened to me, it could happen to anyone.”

My husband and I would like to thank you for your kind wishes. Your comments brought tears to my eyes as I read the most recent blog post on my laptop. I have always said that HGTV Dream Home brings the greatest group of people together, and that definitely includes all of you!!!!

Now that the fun has begun it is time for another hint. So far, we know that the winner is from a beautiful state that boasts creative and talented people. My newest hint is that the residents of this state are recognized as being some of the kindest and most generous people in the country. Hmmm …

This morning, Monica Pedersen and HGTV’s senior vice president/general manager Kathleen Finch presided over the HGTV Dream Home 2013 winner drawing, which was held, with much fanfare, at a fulfillment house near Scripps’ headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Monica greeted the crowd with a big announcement: She is expecting a baby. And the sweetest news? Monica says she and her hubby have their stay on Kiawah Island during the filming of the HGTV Dream Home 2013 special to thank for the little one (wink, wink). Our first official HGTV Dream Home baby!

But back to the matter at hand. Monica did draw the winner’s name and, as usual, was pretty tight-lipped about the person’s identity and location. “This is a beautiful place,” she finally spilled. “A place known for very creative, talented people.” Oh shucks, that could be anywhere!
