Today, I am pleased to present three HGTV Green Home 2012 slideshows we’ve decided to launch ahead of Monday’s virtual home tour. Please take time to explore artistic photos, beautiful room photos and pictures snapped around the lovely hamelet of Serenbe. Plus, we share Steve Nygren’s heartfelt story of Serenbe, a community he established to preserve open land near Atlanta and change the way we think about modern developments. Enjoy!
I a pleased to present yet another cinemagraphic image created by our talented visual designer Daniel Pratt. This gives you just a small taste of the HGTV Green Home 2012 master bathroom. I can’t wait for you to see the room in our virtual home tour. Interior designer Linda Woodrum has described it as a “jewel box” and I think that assessment is right on point. Enjoy and remember to mark your calendars for April 2, when our home tour launches on HGTV.com.
I am proud to present yet another cinemagraphic photo created by visual designer Daniel Pratt. Today we share a peek into the beautiful HGTV Green Home 2012 kitchen. A neutral palette, hickory cabinetry and visually appealing (and sustainable) countertops are among the space’s top features.
The clock is ticking down. Our virtual home tour launches on April 2. More fun teasers to come.
We’re three weeks away from the launch of the HGTV Green Home 2012 virtual home tour (April 2, to be exact). But we couldn’t help but leak a few details. Today, I am happy to present a teaser video created by our talented visual designer Daniel Pratt. I hope you enjoy this snippet. More gorgeous photos, videos and info to come!

While we await news of our home’s LEED certification, I thought I’d share a little (or rather large) tidbit: We are now generating solar power! A 1.35 kilowatt array has been installed on the roof of our modern Southern farmhouse. To learn more about the system’s placement and its potential energy savings, visit HGTVRemodels.com, which hosts our Building of HGTV Green Home 2012 package.
We couldn’t resist sharing a few gorgeous photos from the HGTV Green Home 2012 living room. Can you tell what the overall design scheme might be? I’d love to read through your best guesses.
Remember: The online home tour launches on April 2, 2012, at 9 a.m. ET.
The online team arrived in Serenbe on Tuesday. Our purpose: To take still and panoramic photos for the virtual tour of HGTV Green Home 2012. We were treated to sunny skies, no-coat-required temperatures and daffodils and forsythia abloom, thanks to an unusually mild February. I would describe Serenbe as quite cocoon like — you leave stress, responsibility and any sense of time somewhere far behind. When life is that stripped down, nature takes a step foward. The grass seems greener and even the night sky takes on added brilliance.
The Inn at Serenbe serves as our home base during this trip. It’s comfy and cozy — the original family homestead of developers Steve and Marie Nygren. I can see why the couple fell so madly in love with this area, weekend trips turned into fulltime residence and their laidback lifestyle became the cornerstone of what has blossomed into a tightly knit yet welcoming community.
I had the opportunity to tour HGTV Green Home back in September when it was just a framed shell, and have been examining photos of exterior and interior spaces ever since. Trust me when I say that snapshots can’t hold a candle to the experience of walk through. Interior designer Linda Woodrum has done an amazing job — her mix of contemporary and rustic furnishings connects the home to its environment and tells a compelling story of sustainability. And wait till you see the jaw-dropping view she’s created from the kitchen to the back courtyard. It’s 100 percent Hollywood.
Curiosity piqued? I will be sharing more teasers in the weeks to come. Hold on to your hats: The 2012 virtual home tour, slated to launch April 2, may be our most compelling effort to date.
P.S.: A big shout out goes to visual designer Daniel Pratt, who created the amazing cinemagraphic image you see above.

I had the opportunity recently to chat with landscape experts Ed Castro and Chris Hopper from Ed Castro Landscape. They were charged with landscaping the HGTV Green Home 2012 lot. They shared a wonderful story of working with the site’s existing hardwoods, planting to both beautify and improve comfort and addressing the site’s slope. To learn more about the duo’s sustainable landscape plan, please visit HGTVRemodels.com, then pop back here to comment — and vote for your favorite HGTV Green Home 2012 DIY project.

Interior designer Linda Woodrum and carpenter David Brown will handcraft several eco-friendly decorative items for this year’s HGTV Green Home. We thought it would be fun to involve you in the process: Vote for your favorite decorative accent and we’ll share the step-by-step DIY project with you when the virtual home tour launches in early April. Cast your vote daily through January 31, 2012.
And if you haven’t seen our HGTV Dream Home project, a front porch planter how-to, check it out after you cast your vote today.

We’ll soon be ramping up our coverage of HGTV Green Home 2012. I appreciate your patience as we gather details and answers to some of your sustainability questions.
Today, I’d like to direct your attention to an original video series hosted by home building expert Jeff Wilson. Among other topics, he explains the passive environmental design of HGTV Green Home 2012, as well as the unique regional certification program followed by this year’s builder. It’s called EarthCraft and is considered by many the Southeast’s standard for green building. Visit HGTVRemodels.com to watch the video series and learn more about this year’s home.
