Urban Oasis – Coming and Going

Excitement is certainly brimming about HGTV Urban Oasis 2010. A friend in New York City snapped a pic of this promotion atop a yellow taxi cab. Love it!

So tell me: Are you entering daily on both HGTV.com and FrontDoor.com? Are you making plans to relocate to NYC and live in the Financial District? Share your thoughts.

  1. I'd LOVE to live in New York! I've always love decorating and style. Vern has done an awesome job with the apartment down to the table books. I love pictures of days gone by, I have a tabletop that has been a real conversation piece in my home and its photos of the 20's by James VanDerzee. I have been entering twice a day. This is the dream of a lifetime to live in the hub of things and the view is breath taking. I'm looking forward to packing my bags for relocation!

  3. New York would be a dream come true! My boyfriend and I have been dreaming of moving there from my house here in Richmond for a long time now. He's a jazz musician and it would be PERFECT. 4. Love the thought of living in NY city. I'm a huge musicals fan, having performed in many local productions where I live. Also, I have a cousin who plays trombone on Broadway and I would love to be able to spend time with him and his family. My husband and I eat out most nights – so I'd love to try the NY restaurants. We can all dream can't we!

  5. My husband is from NY. His sister and brother-in-law live on Long Island. We have tried in our 28 year marriage to visit as often as we can. We live in Littleton, Colorado. I have said since my first visit in 1963 that I would love to live in the city. I have never had that opportunity. This would be dream come true. I Love New York and all of the museums and galleries, not to mention the restaurants, shopping, theater, music… It’s the best city in the world. We are both entering twice daily!

  6. It is a total New York state of mind for our family – we are each entering daily on both HGTV.com and FrontDoor.com. We want to win that beautiful apartment and wonder if our combined thought waves can generate enough energy to have the electronic selector pick us ? We are making plans to relocate to NYC and live in the Financial District – if we are so lucky to win. We just subscribed to the New Yorker magazine on Kindle, we are playing Billy Joel's NY State of Mind and watching the UO episodes on HGTV.
One September day, 32 years ago, we were sailing down the Hudson river on a journey that continues today. How wonderful to be winners of the Oasis and see that view from the land side.
Yes, we are excited about the latest contest. THANKS HGTV and your sponsors. And Vern Yip, you are amazing!

  7. ooooh I wanna live here so bad I can TASTE it…. The apartment is just heavenly! I've got a hellish commute every day from NJ to my job in Manhattan…I've been trying sooo hard to save up enough to move into the city which is my greatest love :) I can't help looking at the pix and thinking Vern created this place just for me, from the marble lions to the hatbox toilette, lol! Biting my nails for 20 more days …. <3 I'm just happy to have the CHANCE to win! Immense thanks to everyone involved with this awesome project!

  9. Vern has done a phenomenal design job with the urban oasis. Every detail is magnificent! I can't choose a favorite in this space because it's all exceptional!

  11. A dream come true! To return to the city after so many years, be close to the family, the little shops , the incredible nooks and crannies full of antiques and one of a kind treasures. Vern has captured the essence of NY and it would be incredible to live in his inspiration!

  12. My boyfriend and I have been applying nearly every day! Its huge fantasy for us to be able to make the move back to NYC after living in LA for the past 4 years. Both our families are from the area, but of course we had to meet 3,000 miles away from all our family and close friends. It would be a dream come true to be able to stop renting and finally OWN a beautifully designed luxury pad in the heart of the financial district. Thankfully both our jobs have offices in NYC so this would be an IDEAL move!! We love NYC and we'd love the opportunity to grab the bull by its horns (literally and figuratively)!!! Winning the Urban Oasis would allow us to be close to family again and give us the opportunity to start saving money for a wedding :) Maybe we could rent out that fabulous tenants only lounge & share our nuptials against the backdrop of the city that never sleeps (i dream big). Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that 123 Washington Street will soon be our permanent address!!! Thanks again to HGTV for the awesome chance to win, and for being the #1 for anything and everything HOME!

  13. I would like to be there on July 4th. Around the Statue of Liberty, that's where the fireworks usually are! And boat parade – I forgot what they called it (regatta?)

  14. Wow The Urban Oasis Giveaway is the best thing ever. I have always loved the allure of big Cities and lived in Hollywood Ca. for 10 years. Had to move home after Northridge earthquake due to work.
Although we have beautiful beaches here in Florida and it is great for Tourist, I crave the excitement of the big City. The Shows, Museums, cultures, all the food. Yum Yum !. I work at Home Depot here in Panama City and would love to Win and Transfer with my Company To Manhattan,so if a Home Depot Manager up there reads this get ready to interview me for a transfer if I win. LOL. I just keep entering almost everyday at both sites.

    Thanks for the Opportunity !

  15. I enter every single day at both sites. I am a a single and homeless mother of an little boy, who is my entire world. This would be a huge lift up for us.
I hope whoever wins this huge blessing, really, really needs it.
And to whoever wins…blessings and goods things to you.
I wish everyone good luck in winning.

  16. Vern's concept and follow thru on the design are spectacular. I was sort of expecting modern elements to dominate and they don't. It is so warm and a great blend of what works together with traditional as well as contemporary pieces placed correctly to facilitate but not overwhelm the space. Since both my Italian grandparents were born on the lower West Side in the Washington Sq park area not too far away, it of course would be emotional to win and live part-time there. That is even though the HOA fees and property taxes might be over the top. I'd surely have to sell it at some stage. It is so well done though.

  17. Vern has done an amazing job. I love this neighborhood. I lived just a few blocks from here not long ago and would LOVE to move back and do it in such a wonderful place. I’m ready to move now!

  18. As a loyal HGTV fan, I enter twice daily, too. On October 1st, I had a bilateral mastectomy, ironically on the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I left detailed instructions for my husband to enter for me while I was in "la-la land." I know our chances of winning are greater than those of being hit by lightning, but the timing of the giveaway has been a blessing to me. When you receive the diagnosis of cancer & go through lots of testing, waiting, and discomfort, you need to know how and what to visualize to alter bad thoughts. Visualizing living in Vern Yip's gorgeous NYC apartment, close to my daughter who lives in a closet in Brooklyn, has been one of my go-to warm fuzzy visualizations, in and out of the hospital. So, thanks, HGTV.

    • I've been enthusiastically visualizing the Urban Oasis as MY next home…Until I read your comment. Now I'm praying for YOUR restored health, healing, and well-being – and that God blesses you with this amazing space! Be well…

  19. Gorgeous as to be expected but honestly I'd take the money……I could never afford the HOA's nevermind the taxes on this thing. People forget about that part!

  20. I LOVE the HGTV Urban Oasis, and have been dreaming about living there ever since the sweepstake started! I go to school and work in the city and this apartment would be close to everything. This apartment would mean that I no longer have to suffer the hour and a half commute from deep in Brooklyn! I’m so excited for the drawing! CAN’T WAIT!!!

Yes, I entered & yes, my husband & I are planning to relocate to NYC. How amazing would it be to live in this apartment – a once in a lifetime experience indeed.

  23. The urban oasis would be a dream come true. I'm definitely trying to enter every day. I'm originally from central NY and when the kids became tweens we made a lot of trips from DC to NYC to see the sites. I always love it there, and have always told my husband given the chance that's where I'd like to retire. Our oldest wanted to go to NYU but got wait-listed and turned down an offer from Columbia U to go to U Miami film school. He's now thinking about to law school in Columbia U (if they'll have him) once his tour of duty with the army is up. A place to live while he's in school like the urban oasis would certainly help him decide to become a civilian again. My son home and a cool retirement location would make this mother incredibly happy.

  27. An apartment in New York, are you kidding me!?……

Of course I'm entering daily!!! (religiously)

Its always been a dream of mine, since i was a little girl. I never pictured myself in a picturesque gigantic house with 3 kids and a golden retriever :S NO WAY!! Show me the city lights and a cosmo ;) I'm usually a realist and the odds of this dream coming true doesnt look good. I can't help but dream though, especially since im in such a great place in my life to really appreciate this opportunity. People are entering to have a place to stay whenever they might visit. I will move there and stay there! This is a chance to start a life with my soon-to-be husband.

in the meantime, i'll just star-gaze in arizona.

  29. Hello all! Winning Urban Oasis would be a dream come true! We are always going to NYC and absolutely love it there! I work for Tiffany & Co. and it would be an absolute dream to work in the flagship store on Fifth Avenue. I get so excited when I think about it!

The decorations that Vern used are exactly our style and I couldn't imagine being able to live in a space designed by him. I watch HGTV all the time and am on the website constantly and when I saw this 2010 Urban Oasis I was thrilled. I've been entering twice everyday in hopes that I could call this amazing apartment HOME!

Good Luck to all of you,
    Rob

  30. What a ridiculously beautiful home! ^_^ HGTV always has the most relaxing yet striking designs! Right in the middle of one of the busiest, most populated cities in the world they've created a somber respite from it all! Every day I hope to live in a home a fraction as stunning and interesting as ANY of the numerous they have wrought. Unfortunately, it's always a house (or apartment, lol), never a home for me. But I guess you can't always let the world drag you down! I honestly don't think the HGTV community has any idea how much a giveaway could mean to some people! To have a home for the first time EVER. My gosh! I am sure there are many who could sympathize. To win not only a house, but a luxurious, stylish, and lush home in such a posh, happening area! It makes my heart swell to think on it – not just the slight possibility of winning the equisite gifts they bestow, but the fact that they do these things in the first place! What wonderful life-changing people! I look forward to watching the face(s) of the winner(s) when the gravity of what has been bequeathed upon them is realized! xD

  31. Yes, yes, yes! I am making plans to relocate to NYC…again! I lived there 20 years ago and had the absolute time of my life! With only 2 exceptions, I have entered on both sites every day! I just know I am going to win. Found out through a little research that the unit # is 33 which was my street number at my first place in NYC 20 years ago…it's kismet! Fingers crossed, toes crossed, hairs crossed, praying…you name it, I'm doing it in hopes of winning! It's my time!

  32. If I were to win this amazing property it would enable me to take my small home-based travel business to the next level. It will give me the networking ability to expand my client base and open up new business opportunities. I can imagine myself booking clients into the W Hotel right from my home at the W Residences, all this while looking out over the Statue of Liberty for inspiration. Truly a dream realized!

  35. My husband was laid off for almost a year and just started working in Manhattan three months ago. While we are waiting to sell our house, I have been living in PA with our two sons, while he rents on Staten Island and commutes home (3 1/2 hours each way) every weekend. Would love to be joining him in New York ASAP–here's hoping….along with many others I'm sure

  39. i’m normally jumping about the web the majority of the night so I choose to browse considerably, which unfortunately isn’t usually a good thing as a large amount of the websites I see are composed of unproductive nonsense copied from various other web sites a zillion times, however I have to compliment you because this site is in fact readable and offers a lot of authentic material, therefore many thanks for stopping the pattern of exactly replicating other folks’ websites :)
