Sneak Peek Inside Urban Oasis 2011

Our senior visual designer Daniel Pratt created this teaser video during our visit to the Urban Oasis apartment in late June. It gives you a sense of the overall design aesthetic (without revealing too many details). Our online virtual apartment tour launches August 1. Be sure to check back then for the full (and quite dramatic) reveal!

  1. Thank you for that short video. Too short and too close in in my opinion. Better than nothing for sure. But I can't get much of a feel for the place. Oh well, eagerly awaiting August 1st.

    • I agree David!

  2. I watched a couple more times. I am very curious as to the translucent back lit surface at the start of the video. How is that used? Where is it in the unit? Are all the photos from inside the unit, or are some around the building?

  3. That was a bit of a tease, Mary. I loved the view of the city through the windows, but couldn't you show a few more things instead of spending so much time on the clock's second hand?

  4. Thanks for the sneak peak !!! Can't wait for the tour !

  5. That was a "sneaky" peek for sure, immediately got our attention but left us all wanting MORE!

  6. The clock is ticking! Only 24 days, 21 hours, 48 minutes and 51 seconds (approximately) from today's date and time (7/7/11 at 11:11 am PT) until the beauty and intrigue of the Urban Oasis is fully revealed.

Mark your calendars, or set your stopwatches!

By the way, it was fun seeing the elevated train running down below from the UO window. What an amazing view!

  7. What could be more appropriate than for Vern Yip to have placed a copy of that thoroughly amazing book "Louis Sullivan — The Poetry of Architecture" on the end table with the extraordinary objet d'art vase and its "forever" bouquet of roses.

The Boston born Louis Sullivan was a mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright and served as an inspiration for fellow Chicago architects — who we well know as contributors to the Prairie School. Chicago was lucky to have them, for they helped to create the historic skyline that so impresses from the Urban Oasis.

    • Coop I tell you, "You're very well informed." Wow. I love reading your posts. :)

  8. Give us more! lol That really was a sneak peak. Will so love to see the finished product in full. Waiting for the virtual tour. Love it so far.

  10. I love the brick wall! That taupy color is just perfect.

Nebraska on July 9, 2011 at 1:47 pm
    • I like that wall, Nebraska. I wonder if it is a wall treatment–like stone tiles in brick pattern– (slate ? honed finish of another type of stone like a marble , limestone, quartz ? ) Does it look like a backsplash or a whole wall ? I would be surprised to see brick in a brand new construction, I'd love it, but it would be a surprise.

LLColeman on July 10, 2011 at 12:00 am
      • Could it be a accent wall treatment in one of the bathrooms with a glass shelf for the candle holder? We can only guess at this point…and wait…and wait…and speculate.

  11. Nice music on the sneaky pete video. But I need more to feed my blood lust for this great place

  12. Thanks for the itty bitty, teeny tiny, sneak peek! You gave us just enough to wonder how this will
    all come together!

DeerSpring on July 10, 2011 at 6:54 pm
  13. More speculation — really intriguing that what may be a curved wooden leg cocktail or coffee table appears to have some sort of flickering tube lighting effect to it. I'll be most interested to see the actual piece when at last the door to the Urban Oasis is open for viewing.

DBCoop on July 10, 2011 at 7:32 pm
    • Good Grief!!! You have good eyes! How you manage to see all that detail is totally amazing! I did manage to see the "flickering candles and the ticking clock". I need new glasses and a larger computer monitor for sure!

hokiemom on July 11, 2011 at 10:29 am
  14. Mary, enjoyed the sneak preview! Can't wait to see what Vern has done inside, but I already know that Vern's work will delight and surprise us!

Lessie on July 11, 2011 at 3:16 am
  15. Although I'm grateful for the update, now lets be honest. That was more sneak than peek. Maybe a teeny-tiny itsy bitsy, squeeze you eyes almost shut, and open em for half a second peek!
Kind of like having only one lick of an ice cream cone, or one sip only of your morning coffee. Although sweet, and promising, it just leaves one longing for more, more, more!
Now I have to admit, I am intrigued by the funky vase in the first scene, and how it relates to Chicago.
Mary, and Daniel, you hooked us again.

  16. August 1 – so 20 days until the online reveal.

  17. y'all all pray for my husband and me. He goes into by pass surgery this morning. The doctor said he would have to have a quadrupal bypass. We need everyone's prayers. Thanks.

funfordot on July 12, 2011 at 6:15 am
    • Good luck, with today's technology everything will be fine.
I had a valve replacement, a by-pass and a pacemaker put in and I'm still ticking.

  18. Since we are talking about sneak peeks and teasers, Curbed Chicago offers the floor plans
for the wonderful Urban Oasis followed by floor plans and a sneak peek of the empty penthouse
suite in Trump Tower Chicago. It takes up the space of the entire floor with over 14,000 sq. ft.
and has 16' ceilings. There will be 7 bedrooms and 6 baths. All being offered for $30 million.
    Any takers?

    • Okay that penthouse meets my criteria- his and her baths and dressing areas in the master. I love the kitchen- the formal areas, family areas, and the entertaining space wow- now I wish I had that extra 30 mil.

Nebraska on July 15, 2011 at 1:08 pm
      • It comes with a big price! The good news is that the UO shares some of the same views and
the close proximity to Chicago's sites and amenities for the person who wins this apartment.
One thing the penthouse doesn't have is Vern's special designing touches!

DeerSpring on July 15, 2011 at 5:34 pm
        • I'm sure it would take another 2-3 million to finish off the space!

Nebraska on July 16, 2011 at 12:51 pm
  19. Vern bought something at the Chicago Botanic Garden's Annual Antique and Garden Show.
He bought it from Jodie's booth. Now the next question is what did he buy? Here are some
    photos of Vern shopping:

DeerSpring on July 14, 2011 at 2:46 pm
    • Very nice. Thanks for the link.
What did he purchase? The flame thingy?

  20. I guess we'll find out next month.
